Glasses on the Tower: How Millhaven's Engineer Vanished Overnight
A pair of wire-frame glasses, folded and balanced on the third rung of a padlocked tower ladder, were found with no footprints in the frost around them - and they belonged to Roger Jensen, Millhaven’s meticulous chief engineer who disappeared after leaving his pigeons unfed. What did Jensen write that terrified someone at WMLV, and how did a man vanish so completely from a locked compound?
In this episode, we tell the sequence of events from Jensen’s last confirmed sighting at six a.m. on March 7, 1934, through the entry in the transmission log at p.m., to the discovery of his glasses on March 11, and ask whether the station’s internal tensions and an altered log entry point to a human hand behind his disappearance.
Person: Roger Jensen
Date: March 7-11, 1934
Location: WMLV, Millhaven, Ohio
Age: 54
Associate: Robert Vogel
- Jensen was last seen alive at a.m. on March 7, 1934, when he checked his two racing pigeons and logged their condition.
- The WMLV transmission log at p.m. on March 7 contains Jensen’s handwriting: "Carrier interrupted four minutes - restored manually."
- Directly beneath that entry, in Robert Vogel’s handwriting, is the line: "No fault found on inspection."
- On the morning of March 9, Edna Marsh discovered Jensen’s pigeons unfed and the coop latch pushed closed from the outside.
- County surveyor Roy Tate found Jensen’s wire-frame glasses balanced, folded, on the third rung of the tower maintenance ladder inside a padlocked fence on March 11, with no footprints in the frost around them.
