From the St. Ignatius Chapel at the Manresa Jesuit Spiritual Renewal Center in Pickering, Ontario. The National Catholic Broadcasting Council presents the Daily TV Mass.
Welcome to the celebration of the Daily TV Mass. I'm Father Hank van Mijel. The televising of this Mass is made possible by the contribution from three donors. The first is an anonymous donor from Mississauga, Ontario, in Thanksgiving for blessings received and for their personal intentions, for healing, wholeness, and for grace, strength and courage to deal with all life's obstacles.
The second is an anonymous donor from Berry's Bay, Ontario, for the repose of the souls of Ray and Anna Mullen for their living and deceased family members. The third is from the Kelly's children in loving memory of the Mother Isabel Kelly. Our thanks to our donors for the gift of this Mass. In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, Amen.
The peace of the Lord be with you. And as we have placed ourselves before the Lord on this Wednesday, again recalling our own weakness, our own need for God's guidance. You were sent to heal the contrite of heart. Lord have mercy. You came to call sinners. Christ have mercy. You are seated at the right hand of the Father to intercede for us.
Lord, have mercy. May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life. And let us pray. Almighty, ever living God, who govern all things both in heaven and on earth, mercifully hear the pleading of your people and bestow your peace on our times. True, O Lord, Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever.
unknown Amen.
A reading from the letter of Paul to the Ephesians. This is the reason that I, Paul, am a prisoner for Christ Jesus for the sake of you, Gentiles. For surely you have already heard of the commission of God's grace that was given me for you, and how the mystery was made known to me by revelation, as I wrote above in a few words, a reading of which will enable you to perceive my understanding of the mystery of Christ.
In former generations, this mystery was not made known to humanity as it has now been revealed to his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit. That is, the Gentiles have become fellow heirs, members of the same body, and sharers in the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel. Of this gospel, I have become a servant according to the gift of God's grace that was given me by the working of his power.
Although I am the very least of all the saints, this grace was given to me to bring to the Gentiles the news of the boundless riches of Christ and to make everyone see what is the plan of the mystery hidden for ages in God who created all things, so that through the church the wisdom of God in its rich variety might now be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly places.
This was in accordance with the eternal purpose that He has carried out in Christ Jesus our Lord, in whom we have access to God in boldness and confidence through faith in him. The word of the Lord.
Sing praises to the Lord for he is ungloriously. Let this be none in order. Shout aloud and sing for joy, O royal sight, for great in your midst is the holy one of Israel. You will draw joyfully from the springs of Alléluia Alléluia Alléluia Alléluia Alluya Be watch for the city You know not when the Son of Man is called Aleluia Alluia The Lord be with you, and with your spirit.
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke. Jesus said to the disciples, Know this if the owner of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have let his house be broken into. You also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an unexpected hour. Peter said, Lord, are you telling this parable for us or for everyone?
And the Lord said, Who then is the faithful and prudent manager whom his master will put in charge of his slaves, to give them their allowance of food at the proper time. Blessed is that slave, whom his master will find at work when he arrives. Truly I tell you, he will put that one in charge of all his possessions.
But if that slave says to himself, My master is delayed in coming, and if he begins to beat the other slaves, men and women, and to eat and drink and get drunk, the master of that slave will come on a day who he does not expect him, and at that hour that he does not know, and will cut him in pieces and put him with the unfaithful.
That slave who knew what his master wanted, but did not prepare himself or do what was wanting, will receive a severe beating, but the one who did not know and did what deserved a beating will receive a light beating. For every one to whom much has been given, much will be required, and from the one to whom much has been entrusted, even more will be demanded.
The gospel of the Lord. This reading we can read it in a way as a story, but it is when we read it on a personal level, then it really should touch our hearts. And it is really meant for all of us to be stewards of be to be good stewards, and of course, stewards, anyone in a position of leadership, if it is priests, bishops, cardinals, parents, mothers, fathers, much is expected to be examples, to be good stewards of our worldly possessions, but also to show the faith, to be stewards of the faith, and not to be afraid, and especially in our secular world where there are so many uh where the faith is kind of fading in many places, to be not to be afraid to show a faith, to wear a cross, to not
be afraid to make the sign of the cross in public, to show that we are Christians. It is so important because so many will be watching us, to be people of integrity. And integrity is so important because if we're not people of integrity and cannot be transparent in what we do, the people around us will see it.
They will see it, and of course they will call us hypocrites, as simple as that, or they will say, Oh, those Catholics, you know, blah blah blah. It is so important to be people of integrity and to be transparent and to show others the way to God by our lives. And if we just throw all of that in the wind, then yes, we will be that unfaithful steward who deserves a beating.
And of course, uh at the end of our earthly journey, we will be judged. How we have have handled or gifted great gifts God has given us. And it's so important to really sit with this, even especially as you are a viewer, as you uh view this TV mass. Obviously, you feel called to be a Christian, you are a follower of Christ, and I really invite you to take personal inventory, to say, is there something in my life I'm not transparent about?
Is there something I have to clear up to show that I'm really a Christian and that I really want to live a pure life and come to God with no saints on my soul? And it is something to really spend time with and to every day look at our lives. Look at it, take inventory. How am I doing? How is my life?
Have I been honest in my dealings, in my material dealings, of course, with money, with the tax department, with whomever, but am I also honest with the people around us? And it takes a little bit of courage, and but we get a lot of uh strength out of those who have gone before us. And in our first reading of Ephesians, uh Saint Paul is explaining that he's missioned by God.
We each in our own way are also missioned by God to be those stewards and not to be afraid. And of course, uh Saint Paul he would speak if he was liked or not. He would show his faith and be a steward of the deposit of faith he received through Jesus Christ. And it's so important. Also, in the saints, we get so much, at least I get so much strength of the saints.
And today on the Universal Calendar we celebrate Blessed Giuseppe Pugisi. He was an Italian priest, and he uh uh he was actually on today was his birthday, and his birthday present was he was shot at point blank reigns by the mafia because he spoke up, he was in Sicily on the island of Sicily, he was a pastor, and of course the mafia was very strong there, and there were many uh unhealthy dealings.
The people in the pew would not dare to speak because of a fear for reprisal. But he spoke up, he had a deposit of faith, and he was not afraid to speak, and he knew that he would have to pay the price, and so we can receive much strength out of that. He uh he literally preached from the pulpit that the mafia was sinful, that crime is sinful, that we should live pure lives.
And uh although he got many threats, they tried to bribe him, he would not keep quiet because he was he felt that mission like St. Paul from God to speak up, to not be afraid. And after his execution, his he really evangelized mostly through his execution when he was murdered. And actually a movie is produced about his life.
Come into the light is the title of the movie. Also, several books are produced because it awoke the conscience of a nation that crime is not good, crime is not from God, it's evil. And but in the same way, we can follow those examples given to us and to be that light of Christ for those around us. Amen.
So let us bring our prayers before the Lord. We pray for all those in our daily TV Mass Prayer Intention Book. We pray to the Lord.
Lord hear our prayer.
Let us pray that during this month of the Rosary families may gather in prayer, finding in it a source of strength, unity, love and love for their daily lives. We pray to the Lord. This month we pray with Pope Leo that the mental health ministry be established throughout the church, helping to overcome the stigma and discrimination of persons with mental illnesses.
We pray to the Lord. We pray for all in public office that they are persons of integrity and put the needs of their constituency before personal gain. We pray to the Lord. And for these prayers and the prayers in the silence of our own hearts, we lift them up to you, Lord. Amen. Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation, for through your goodness we have received the bread we offer you, fruit of the earth and work of human hands.
It will become for us the bread of life.
Blessed be God, right?
By the mystery of this water and wine, may we come to share in the divinity of Christ, who humbled himself to share in our humanity. Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation, for through your goodness we have received the wine we offer you, the fruit of the vine, and work of human hands. It will become our spiritual drink.
Blessed we are forever. That humble spirit and contrite heart may we be accepted by you, O Lord, and may our sacrifice in your sight as day be pleasing to you, Lord God. Cleanse me of my sins. Thank you. Pray, my sisters and brothers, that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to God, the Almighty Father.
Grant us, O Lord, we pray, that we may participate worthily in these mysteries. For whenever the memorial of this sacrifice is celebrated, the work of our redemption is accomplished through Christ our Lord.
unknown Amen.
The Lord be with you.
And with your spirit.
Lift up your hearts. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right and just it is truly right and just our duty and our salvation always and everywhere to give you thanks, Lord, Holy Father, Almighty and Eternal God, for in goodness you created man, and when he was justly condemned, in mercy you redeemed him, through Christ our Lord.
Through him the angels praise your majesty, dominions adore and powers tremble before you. Heaven and the virtues of heaven and the blessed Seraphim worship together with exaltation. May your voices we pray join with those in humble praise as we acclaim. You are indeed holy, O Lord, the found of all holiness.
Make holy therefore these guests we pray, by sending down your spirit upon them like the dewfall, so that they may become for us the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. At the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion. He took bread and giving you thanks, broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, Take this all of you and eat of it, for this is my body, which will be given up for you.
In a similar way, when supper was ended, he took the chalice and once more giving thanks, he gave it to his disciples, saying, Take this, all of you, and drink from it, for this is the chalice of my blood, the blood of the new and eternal covenant, which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins.
Do this in memory of me.
Cross and resurrection you have set us free.
Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection, we offer you, Lord, the bread of life and the chalice of salvation, giving thanks that you have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you. Humbly we pray that partaking of the body and blood of Christ, we may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit.
Remember, Lord, your church spread throughout the world, and bring her to the fullness of charity, together with Leo or Pope, Francis or Bishop, the Order Bishops, the clergy, and the entire people you have called your own. Remember also our sisters and brothers who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection, and all who have died in your mercy, welcome them into the light of your face.
Have mercy on us all. We pray that with the blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, with the Blessed Joseph, your spouse, with the blessed apostles and all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages, we may merit to be co-heirs to eternal life, and may praise and glorify you through your Son, Jesus Christ.
Through him and with him and in him, O God Almighty Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, O glory and honor is yours for ever and ever. Amen. And at the Savior's command, informed by divine teaching, we dare to say, O Father, who are in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day your daily bread and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespassed against us. And it is not in temptation, but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray from every evil. Graciously grant peace in our days that by the help of your mercy we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever.
Lord Jesus Christ, who said to the apostles, peace I leave you, my peace I give you. Look not on our sins, but on the faith of your church, and graciously grant our peace and unity in accordance with your will, who live and reign for ever and ever.
Amen.
The peace of the Lord be with you always.
And your yours.
And let us offer each other a sign of peace.
You take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us, love you take away the sins of the world. Have mercy on us love you take away the sins of the world.
Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the world. Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb. Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word of my soul.
My Jesus, I believe that you are present in this holy sacrament of the altar. I love you above all things, and I passionately desire to receive you into my soul. Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, come spiritually into my soul, so that I may unite myself wholly to you now and forever. Amen.
Pour on us, O Lord, the Spirit of your love, and in your kindness make those you have nourished by this one heavenly bread one in mind and heart. Through Christ, O Lord. The Lord be with you. And may Almighty God bless you, Father, Son, Holy Spirit. Amen. Go in peace, glorifying the Lord by your life.
Thanks, His God.
Our thanks to our donors for the gift of this month.
