The Walnut Tree's Mary Jane: A Lullaby Buried for 126 Years

A single brown leather Mary Jane sat eight feet up in the fork of a lone black walnut tree-no ladder, no second shoe, no explanation-on the eastern edge of Dellford, Virginia. For 126 years a lullaby sung across generations held a name no one could place; what does one small shoe and a forgotten song reveal about a town's hidden grief?

In this episode, we follow how a septic contractor's photograph triggered a documentary search through town records, church registries, and water-damaged minutes to recover the life erased from official papers-and to ask how and why a child baptized in 1883 was buried on private land and then nearly wiped from memory.
