Eric Schmitt's Jack Smith "perjury" gotcha ends in a Caitlin Clark own goal — Dingus of the Week Podcast #43

On Tuesday, Missouri Sen. Eric Schmitt <a href="mediaite.com/media/news/completely-humiliating…; target="_blank">accused former special counsel Jack Smith of perjury at a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, saying Smith had gone to an Atlanta Hawks game the day after Fani Willis and Nathan Wade's affair became public. The evidence? His goon flashes a poster board depicting text messages that Schmitt said tied him to an Atlanta Hawks game.

Only... turns out he was just going watch phenom Caitlin Clark play in Maryland. Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar <a href="newsnationnow.com/politics/eric-schmitt-fumble…; target="_blank">pointed out the mix-up while Schmitt was still calling Smith a "dirtbag."

It got worse from there. Sean Hannity and Benny Johnson <a href="newsweek.com/implosion-of-eric-schmitt-1250550…; target="_blank">deleted their victory-lap posts. MS NOW reported that Schmitt was <a href="thedailybeast.com/gop-goon-hit-with-fresh-humi…; target="_blank">warned the texts hadn't been vetted, and Axios had floated him that same morning as a <a href="axios.com/2026/09/29/eric-schmitt-jd-vance-vic…; target="_blank">possible 2028 Vance running mate. Schmitt, a former Missouri attorney general, has a <a href="en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eric_Schmitt"; target="_blank">track record of confident, losing legal gambles, including a COVID suit against China that <a href="missouriindependent.com/2022/07/08/federal-jud…; target="_blank">a judge dismissed.

On this episode of DINGUS OF THE WEEK, hosts LYZ LENZ and ZACHARY OREN SMITH explain why a senator who spent years invoking women's sports forgot that women play then.
