Shownotes

You'll hear the music and some of the stories about the creation of this music inspired by love. Here is what I play on this episode:

• Song For My Father--Horace Silver His father's picture is on the album cover.

• Newborn--Josh Cohen, composed while his baby daughter slept against his chest

• Love is For Always--Sun Ra and his Arkesta. One person on Reddit claimed it is the "only song in jazz that is about the essence of love"

• Joy Spring--Clifford Brown and Max Roach. That was the nickname Clifford Brown gave to his wife.

• Atomic Peace---Alice Coltrane. She picked up the harp that John had ordered for her before his passing.

• Lotus Blossom--Duke Ellington. He is sitting at the piano playing this Billy Strayhorn tune while the rest of the band are packing up.

• The Intimacy Of The Blues---Duke Ellington and Orchestra. From a whole album dedicated to Billy Strayhorn recorded shortly after his death.

• Pisenka dia Martynk (Song For Little Martynka)--Leszek Kulakowski. From Poland My Homeland.

• Speak Low--Fraser MacPherson. From a cd released from radio broadcasts, inspired by a love for Vancouver's unheralded jazz musicians of the 60's.
