We got Simba. Yeah.

Sixers and six.

Fellow LeBron fan, we go where LeBron go. Yes, sir.

Wait, no.

Yes, Gil. Yes, we do. I'm bandwagon Barry. You know this about me. We're going to get to this later. But I'm a Sixers fan now. Me and Josiah see the world the same. Sixers and six.

Let's go, Bronny.

Where Bron go, we go. But still protecting Bronny's legacy with the Lakers, Gil. Still got one foot in LA. We got NBA champion of the world. Three-time NBA champion of the world. When he's not in the arena, you can check out his Inside the Green Room podcast or catch him calling Lakers games, Danny Green. All right, Gil, you were late, so let's just get to it. We got a lot of things to discuss here. What's cracking in the arena today? Fans all mad. The new look Sixers.

Spoiled the Knicks' ring night with a season-opening win in the Garden. Does the East officially run through Philly now? Look at Mike Brown's face.

He know.

God damn it.

It's a new king.

Where the dogs at? What's that? What's this? Yeah.

Let the dogs out.

Yeah. Woof, woof, woof.

S.J. and the Thunder got some redemption on Wimby and the Spurs with an opening night win in San Antonio. Does the back-to-back MVP and his healthy squad have the answers to the test? And the Pistons bounce back from a 22-point deficit to ruin Paul George's historic debut with the Celtics. Will Tatum handle being the guy, or is Boston going to regret trading Jalen Brown?

Didn't look good for Tatum. Shooting tour day.

Game one, game one.

National Hydration Day.

Might be the biggest game of the season. We'll see. It might be.

Eastern Conference Finals?

One team will be there. One team. Okay.

I don't know about the others. So Knicks came into opening night ready to celebrate a championship. But the new look Sixers featuring the big four of Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid along with offseason additions Jalen Brown and LeBron James pulled up to Madison Square Garden ready to make a statement. Let's take a look at the highlights if we can please, Paolo. It's so beautiful, so glorious. This was the highlight of the Knicks night. Raised their first championship banner in 53 years. Got their ring.

Shout out to Jason of Beverly Hills. Lovely, lovely rings. Very intricate.

They spent a lot of bread. But the Sixers spoiled the party. Took a bite out of the Big Apple with a solid debut. They overcame a rough shooting night with some elite defense. All eyes were on LeBron James and Jalen Brown making their Sixers debuts, but it was Tyrese Maxey who stole the show. Maxey set the tone early, knocking down back-to-back threes on the Phillies' first two possessions.

Finished with a game-high 28 points, five assists, three steals, and three blocks. Jalen Brunson led the Knicks with 21 points on six of 19 shooting, while Carl Anthony Towns added 19 points and 12 rebounds, despite battling foul trouble. Former Sixer Andre Drummond provided a huge spark off the Knicks bench. He had 12 points, 14 rebounds. So Knicks built an early Double-digit lead. The game was back and forth in the first half, as we can see right here.

But then things changed. They had a four-point lead at half. Sixers, O.D. in the third quarter. They won an 11-0 run in that quarter, capped off by back-to-back Jalen Brown threes, including one at the buzzer to end the frame. Philly outscored New York 29-18 in.

That third quarter. We see how he's trying to do The D-Wade there. Oh. Yeah. That man is 41 years old doing that, Gil. You know. You remember him. He used to be on your favorite team. No, we had him when he was 40.

Shit about that 41-year-old broad. Jalen Brown hit this big three. Cap off the third quarter. Philly outscored the Knicks 29-18 in that period. Jalen Brown finished with 19 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists in his Sixers debut. While LeBron, beginning his historic 24th NBA season, added 14 points, 9 rebounds, and 7 assists. Even played some center. With Embiid in foul trouble.

Embiid had a double-double, 13 points and 11 rebounds, three blocks. He was four for 15 from the field, though. Defending champs, they tried. They did their best. They played at an elite level for them.

Stop.

Cut the deficit to one twice in the final three minutes. But the Sixers responded with a clutch, clutch performance out there. Oh, it's just so beautiful, ladies and gentlemen.

It's a new king on the coast.

Oh, man.

It's a new king on.

The East Coast.

We run this league. Y'all got to stop.

Not a particularly good offensive night for the Sixers, Brendan. 42% from the field, 28% from three.

Not a good night for the Knicks either.

Some tough defense, though. Held the Knicks at 37%. Knicks were playing at an elite level. Philly defense just stifled them. Knicks got the ring. The Sixers got the win. Gives a defending chance to start the season. So, LeBron had this to say after the game.

I mean, it's still going to take some time.

I mean, it's just one game, but obviously we can learn from The good things that we did, we can learn from the bad things that we did tonight. So I thought in the fourth quarter, we did a good job of executing. We did a good job of pressing the tempo when we got, you know, when we got the lead. And then when they cut the lead, we made some timely shots. You know, I think obviously Tyrese was Tyrese. But you look at the three on the right wing from Joel. You look at the three from KCP right by their bench at the end of the clock.

You know, and some of the plays that JV and Vijay had too was special too. And a big shout out to Ant too. those minutes he gave us off the bench was crucial. We're still new to each other. We had a couple moments, we had some turnovers that was kind of unforced. We had some moments where we had some open looks and we didn't take it. That will happen early on in the season as we continue to build our offensive sets, build our defensive sets. We will have some bumps and rolls at times, but I think tonight when we had those bumps and rolls, which a good team usually do, you're able to use what happened previously and then make the adjustment. And I think the biggest thing from tonight is that we knew that

we gave them some pick sixes in the first half and we knew we gave them offensive rebounding in the first half where they had second chance points.

And we cleaned that up in the second half.

That's the sign of a good team so far.

Sign of a good team so far. Sixers on pace to win 82 games this season. Brendan, we'll start with you. Biggest takeaways from the Sixers opening night win over the Knicks in the Garden.

I like the way that the Sixers play. So I thought that you're trying to see how cohesive they're going to be because there's a lot of guys that, you know, last year got a lot of opportunity. Everybody's having to sacrifice. Jalen Brown was able to play well. This new version of LeBron, I thought he did an excellent job of really being like this point power forward. I think we're going to see a lot of nights like last night where he's not going to get the 20s and the 30s, but he's going to control the game 13, 13, 10, and 10. Like a lot of those lower triple-double style type nights, I think he's going to have a lot of that. And then I like what they got off the bench, too. Anthony Simons coming in, shooting the ball

with consistency. I like what K... I still think Denver's missing what KCP brought to the table when they won that championship.

He's just that guy.

He's always ready to take that corner three, plays hard, plays tough, underrated. When you win a championship, he ain't going to be the first name you talk about. But championship teams always need that style player. So I was encouraged by what I saw from the Sixers. And I still think there's some little things schematically that they can take advantage of based on what I saw at the end of the game.

Beautiful words, Brendan.

Hey, man, you might be the.

Most biased host in the history of hosts.

This is not a journalistic show. I can tell, man. I can tell. If you watch this show for the past five seasons, you know what it is.

This is true. I shouldn't be surprised.

Our fans are on that bullshit, too. And, man, we're on it all year.

But let's shift over to Danny, our former Sixer. Great here on the couch with us. What are your biggest takeaways from the Sixers spoiling the Knicks' ring night, getting the win in the Garden?

I mean, it's early. It's game one, so I don't try to overreact to still kind of like a glorified scrimmage, really. Teams don't know who they are yet, but they're better than what I expected them to be to start. Guy with a lot of credit to Jalen Brown. He kind of took a step back, and he also got Bron going.

Like those three baskets that Bron got in that third quarter, Anthony Simons was huge for them. He knocked down shots. That third quarter was big from him knocking down shots and then Jalen Brown getting Bron easy baskets at the rim. Because before that, Bron, it looked weird seeing him as a role player. It was just strange for me to see him. You know, even though he's a third option in L.A., he still was, like, controlling the ball. Tyrese had the ball in his hands most of the game.

And then, you know, Joel and Jalen. But Bron was kind of just being a four-man spacer. At times he was, you know, I guess quarterbacking the offense a little bit. But it was weird to see him as a role player. But I guess this is what we're going to see. It's going to change, I think, game to game. Obviously, Joel won't play every game. Neither will Bron. Certain guys will sit out. But they look better than I expected. Also, again, it's hard to grade it because as much as you say the Knicks were at elite level, it was bad basketball.

I'm just kidding. They looked ass. They looked ass.

But, you know, I expected more from Jalen Brunson. I expected more from OG. Cat, we'll go to the Knicks side later. But, you know, I expected more from the other side. But Sixers looked good to start. But we'll stay with the Sixers for now. Sixers looked solid to start.

Emotional night for the Knicks. Obviously got the bling bling, got the banner. Long offseason. Some people are not getting their bread. The record was 16-4. They weren't a great record.

Opening night in the last 20 years, 16-4 from the opening night.

For the last five years.

But the defending champs have won the last five opening night games.

Have they?

Yeah, they're 16-4 and wins. The Knicks broke that streak. This was LeBron's first time winning in his debut with a new team, for those who didn't know.

Did y'all win when you were... Yeah, we won... Your opening night? San Antonio. The only team I went back to after we won was San Antonio. Y'all won? And I think it was a close game. We got smacked, right? It'd be emotional night sometimes. You just didn't know how it was going to go.

What do you think that is? Is it like the pressure of the ring ceremony? The fans is there? And the team.

Coming in with that mindset of like... Especially... I mean, we'll get to the OKC San Antonio, but the other team coming in, like, nah, we ain't going for that shit.

Sometimes you come in with a little bit of a hangover, too. You come in feeling yourself like, yeah, we the champs, and it's emotional. You get in your ring. And the whole time you get in the ring, it works out differently. Sometimes you ride off that energy, but sometimes while you get in the ring, the other team over there looking around like, oh, they think it's sweet. We about to crash the party. So that's why sometimes you come out on opening night. I want to say we played the heat with like Bron and D-Wade. They smacked us by like 20. You know what I'm saying?

And it was a revenge game.

It was a revenge game.

We getting our rings. We styling.

And they came out.

Well, they came out there and smacked the fire out of us today in that first game of the season in Dallas at the crib.

You know what I'm saying?

So it's different for every team. But for us, we got smacked. But over the last five years, the championship team had been doing pretty well.

When you guys were in live turning up if I'm not mistaken.

We did after we'm all champions all over my live on Sunday Monday we had a good time.

When we want big bottles of space disrespecting the city. Yeah, we did urinating with the championship trophy in the bathroom unsanitary With the truck I didn't.

Go to I didn't go that far.

But let's shift over to simple simple also a LeBron James fan and a.

No, no, no, no, no, no, no. I am the president of the LeBron James fan club.

Just let the chat know because the chat thinks I glazed, but it is glazed.

I'm the president. I'm the president of the LeBron James fan club. And one thing I seen last night is I seen my mans not have that pressure on him to lead. He had Jalen. He had Tyrese Max.

He had Vijay.

He had Anthony Simons. He had KCP. He had all these pieces around him to where it was just like, damn. I can enjoy playing basketball again. And that's what it looked like from my perspective. It wasn't somebody that had to get the ball right before half-court start and look at the defense and figure what was going to go on and tell somebody to move that way. He was just moving around free. And what I kind of seen was I feel like Jalen Brown is going to make a case for MVP this season. From what I've seen, Jalen got some Some frustrations. Jalen got some frustrations.

He's not going to get the same type of opportunity to be MVP. I'm not saying he will. I'm just saying I don't think Jalen Brown is going to be in the conversation for MVP, not because I don't think he's cold, but Joker is going to have a chance to average a triple-double Luka is going to have a chance to average a triple-double.

We just seen what SGA did.

Come on now.

So those guys are going to have so much opportunity. Like you look at Jalen Brown, he got 14 shots last night. Like SGA is always going to get over 14 shots. That's how it's going to be.

So on the flip side of that, if Philly continues to go on the trajectory that you said, if they're at the top of the East, Tyrese Maxey might.

Have a case.

I'll see that too. He don't have a ball in his hand.

He's going to average 28.

We talked about sacrifice. Maxie said that's for y'all to figure out.

Who's the captain?

I got the ball. It's my ball. What number is Tyrese Maxie? Zero. Okay. Hello.

He got that mentality like another zero. Ain't passing the sugar to nobody. Ain't passing the salt at the dinner table.

Let's shift over to you, former LeBron James fan. During his time with the Purple and Gold. Still a LeBron-y fan. And we're going to talk Luke a little later in the show. But let's talk about most important game last night. Sixers going to the Garden. Get that win. I know you were watching. What were your biggest takeaways?

That's the damn USA team, man. What?

That's the USA team. What's a USA team?

That Philly team is the USA basketball team. The Avengers? The Olympics team. If you take that team and you match them up against the 2028 team, That's going to be a battle.

The 2020 what?

The 2014.

The 2020 what?

The one that's going to come? You put this team right here and then match them up.

Against the Olympic team?

Yes.

Stop.

The starting five? I'm talking about the starting five, not the team.

What's in this cup?

The starting five.

What's in this cup?

You're talking about Jalen Brown. We're talking about the starting five.

Jalen didn't get an opportunity, so he could have been, again, starting five.

We're talking about a starting five. Maxie can make that team, so you're talking about the same player. The finals MVP.

You think that the Sixers team could be.

Not their team. The five, that starting five against a USA starting five?

He's saying Maxie, Brown, Vijay, Braun, and Embiid.

When you think about 2024... That's the top five starting five. Steph, KD, Joel, and I think maybe AD.

I don't know who... No, Drew Holiday.

Yeah, so look at the matchup for that.

Booker.

It's similar.

It's similar. When I watch that, I'm sitting here saying, all right, let me see what type of offense they're running. There's no team. I'm sorry. There's no team. There's no coach that's ready for the offense they've been running. I wanted to watch how you're going to put every– you got Jalen Brown doing the Paul Pierce cut. There's not been no defense that has seen this cut. There's just been five niggas sitting in corners. So you got him doing that, which he's going to out-muscle everyone. Right? You have a pick and roll with one of the fastest in the NBA and Joel Embiid. So at some point, what do they try to do?

Trap him.

Yeah. He's making a pass back to Joel Embiid. Not Draymond Green. Joel Embiid with a guy running, doing one of these. We already know what he's going to do. He's shooting that shot. Yesterday, he's like... He's playing literally decoy. I'm sitting here like, this is dangerous. You have Joel Embiid. With no one guarding him, catching the ball at the 3.5.

On a 3-on-2 type of.

A 3-on-4. I mean, a 4-on-3.

Yeah, 4-on-3.

Like, I'm sitting here like, yo, and he's just sitting there making pay. Okay, a little ducking. He a little ducking. And I'm sitting here like, I don't know. There's no team that's ready to guard this. They're used to just five-out switch. Everybody stay in the corner. They're running actual offense.

That is going to be hard to guard. with the structure of how they're playing. You can't play small ball because Jalen Brown is gonna duck in. He's ducking in every time. Big boy.

They have three guys that can post up. Bron, Jalen, and Joel. There was one possession. They post Bron on one side. They threw shit to the other side. Post Jalen. I'm like, what the fuck? They threw it to Joel. I'm like, it's going to be hard to guard. The team's going to have an event where teams are going to try to attack them defensively. That's the only way.

You're going to try to keep them going up and down, not realizing my one, two, three, they can do it all day. Yeah.

You overreacting off of one game.

I didn't say nothing about the percentage. I'm watching an offense. I'm watching it too. I'm watching a pick and roll, pass it back to Joel Embiid, and he's sitting there by himself at a three-point line.

With Joel Embiid....

LeBron James, Jalen Brown ducking in, and then Vijay on the side. So you got a 45-inch vertical coming this way. You got LeBron James. My whole back line is off. What are you doing?

Well, listen, because it looked like that because of how the Knicks were playing that play down the stretch of the game. Now, I'm going to give Philly Day credit. They out-executed the Knicks down the stretch. They ran that mid-pick and roll. They trapped it, and Joel basically caught it, dribbled to the mid-post, and then swung it to the corner.

Yes, yes.

Now, there are going to be some teams that are going to be like, yo, we're going to switch that. The Knicks just basically, the Knicks ran the same coverage for the last five minutes and it got exploited. So I understand what you're saying, but you only saw one coverage. They're going to have to be able to do different things off of that.

No, no, we've seen two coverages. The first coverage is we're going to switch it or play man and he had 28. Who? The nigga with the balls. See, you can't guard him. I can tell you this for sure.

What the hell y'all laughing at over there, man? A little bit too much shit, a little bit too much ha-ha in the background.

You know what I'm saying? The worst thing, first of all, there's only one point guard that can probably keep up with him, and that's De'Aaron Fox. Foot for foot. You're telling me that no one can guard him sitting here just going coast to coast. You're going to then switch a big on him. He's sitting like, oh, good.

There are some teams that have big that can move their feet.

You do know that.

Yeah, yeah.

Carly Anthony Towns is not one of them.

Not against him. You don't want that big disadvantage against him or Foxx. So, at some point, you are thinking about, fuck it, let's just trap them, see if we can just make them do rotation. And then you just got stars on the back line of this. And that's the bad part. You have... Like, you literally have an MVP in the Draymond Green role.

You just hope that.

You're just hoping he misses or make a bad read.

My MVP making a bad read? But you got to understand, most teams... We'll play make or miss basketball with Joel from three. From three.

We're going to make those guys shoot.

Like, listen, now don't get it twisted because that's one thing that I saw we were talking before the show is that Joel was catching that ball and he was making the pass. He don't always got to make that pass.

He ain't going to.

Make that pass.

Because he's getting guarded. Because I was watching, it looked weird because he caught it and it was a guard rotating over and.

He was just swinging it.

I was like, hey, man.

When you're going to want one bounce, two bounce and get to the money. But he didn't show that aspect of it. So that's there. But you got to understand when he does pick and pop, teams will live with Joel Embiid shooting the ball from three. If I'm if I'm going to Philly and it's like, OK, Maxi one on one versus my big.

I don't like that.

OK.

Jalen Brown in the low block. No, I don't like that.

Joel shooting the three.

I can live with that. He didn't shoot the three great yesterday.

What was he like, two for six or something like that?

That's what I'm saying. He's playing decoy. So I'm looking at the possibilities of what's going on. So he's like, he's getting it. He's just like, eh. I'm just literally playing decoy, just trying to get the motion. And I'm sitting here like, yo, this is like... That's why I was about to say... Because remember, everyone's a copycat league.

This is a team... That's running plays. Jalen Brown for the first time is like, which is weird, in Boston, they have a Paul Pierce cut from Boston. You have a player that if he ducks in one bounce, he's dunking that, which you showed yesterday. You've never done that action for him. You just sit him in the corner.

He's going to be trouble down there.

Which to Gil's point.

And he's going to always have a small on him because everybody's playing small.

That's the point. I will say this. Because they don't have enough defenders to guard all the time.

They don't have enough defenders.

I love how Jalen Brown attacked the basket. And you made a great point. You said in Boston, they didn't always use him like that. Goes back to what we said yesterday. A lot of these teams, they playing.

Off the iPad. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Hey, man, we got to get a 53.

Sometimes you're like, no, no, no, no, no. Let's take Jalen Brown, throw him in the post. You know, Boston looked like they missed that action. Said they want that old thing back. They looked like they missed that action game one. And so, like, I do think that Jalen is going to be able to have post-action, he's going to have a lot of space, and he brings that grittiness, that dog. They're going to be hard to guard offensively.

That can't be argued because they have a lot of guys that are talented. Even though Embiid was 2 of 7 from 3, let's talk about his pass.

Top of the key.

He's a diamond. So they're going to be a very hard team to guard offensively, and they look ahead of schedule as far as from a cohesion standpoint.

I was looking to.

See body language like... Is this guy going to be mad?

Give that a month.

It's game one.

It's game one. But listen, everybody got a chance to touch the rock. Even the guys that would come off the bench. We were talking about Anthony Simons.

People sleeping.

He averaged 20 when he was in Portland. He's coming off the bench flaming.

He pulled one. He missed, but it was one possession. He got it with probably 20 seconds on the shot clock.

He came in hot. That's how you feel?

To Gil's point, right, like I think the scariest part about this is you set up that pick and roll and look at the options NB got, right? You got a Jalen Brown. You got a Vijay. You got Bron. You got all of these things around you. And to something else he was saying, Maxie, so fast, so just drive downhill and get to the basket, right? Let's say teams start to double that. Our teams try to find a way to effectively put a hope to that, right?

He's passing to Jalen Brown. You know what I'm saying? He's passing to LeBron. He's passing to Vijay. Joel can come up and say something. So it's like it's very scary because even if Joel missed two threes, fuck it, here.

Right?

There go Jalen Brown.

Fuck it.

There go Brown. There go. It's so much going on with that team to where it's just like how do we effectively stop all that's going on in this offense?

I think the biggest thing is health for them. And outside of the offense that Gil's talking about, they're going to win games just because they run. That's what got them back in the game.

Yeah.

The top fast break leaders in scoring last year are all on the same team. Top three. Tyrese was number one, Bron was number two, and guess who number three was? That's a hell of a point there, Danny. Hey, man. Motherfuckers is running.

I told you to bring it today. I'm glad you didn't pay attention. Yeah, Danny, that's a hell of a damn point.

So that's what got them in back in the game. Bron started getting easy baskets at the rim. Jalen's pushing. Tyrese is running. So if they can run and if they get a half-court offense, they're going to be in pretty damn good shape, man. It's going to be trouble. They're going to win games just because of talent. But when it comes to the playoffs and teams actually slow the game down some, we have to see when Knicks are actually playing better basketball.

They were playing good basketball. Playing their heart out.

They weren't shooting the ball well, man.

They were trying.

Brunson was 6-19. Neither was Philly.

OG was 3-12.

OG was 3-12.

Neither was Philly.

Bridges was 2-8.

But why is that, Brendan?

They were getting good shots.

That was great defense.

It was great defense.

Opening night was ugly.

No, no.

Not doing that. We are doing it. Because before Brunson disadvantaged, when he's coming down and you got to run somebody and they throw it and they come in, they're swinging. Now, Jalen Brown, just go get him in the fourth quarter. You just do it by yourself.

That ain't James Harden.

He don't have an advantage over Jalen. He don't have an advantage over Jalen. No. And then when Jalen Brown, hey, VJ, just do enough. Be athletic for him.

And that makes sense if they win a one-on-one tournament.

But their advantage is Cat playing the point center. When he's in foul trouble, that's why. He got to stay out of the way from dumb fouls, too, man. That's what the problem was. You see what happened with Bronze Star Gardening. Again, he could post-Bron. He could shoot threes. He's a mismatch for a lot of people. Joel's going to have to come out on the floor and guard Cat. Nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah.

Joel was guarding Cat. And they put Bron on him.

Cat barely played. That's my point.

I got you.

Cat in foul trouble every other game.

Did I say that? I said, you're playing against a team that... You're playing against a team that actually all got foul merchants.

They had to rely on drummers.

They literally have a bunch of foul merchants on the team.

Cats are always in foul trouble.

I know him.

Joel, Jalen, Tyrese, they all draw fouls.

They're all foul draw. That's going to be crazy. There's going to be a game where they damn near almost shoot 50 free throws.

Yeah, they're going to shoot 60 free throws.

The refs are going to be like, yo, we can't just call every fucking foul. When Embiid is doing Embiid, he's getting about 10 blown whistles.

I will say this, though. They didn't always capitalize on it. That didn't be drop coverage going to be a problem.

I know you saw it. I know you saw how far back he was.

If you had two good knees and you was coming off that pick and roll and he was dropping that far, how would you be looking at him?

Yeah, that's what I'm talking about.

I'm looking at that drop coverage. like, that drop, that drop is too big of a drop. Hey, brother, you got to get.

Up at the level.

Like, you know what I'm saying? Like, it's all good tonight because Brunson's not playing well, but we know, hey, listen, the following game, like, we saw SGA. You run that against SGA. Yeah, You know, on a good night, you run up against even a team like the Wizards.

Trey Young, that's float game, bro. B, let me ask you this. Is that an injury thing with the knee? Why do you think he's.

Nah, it's just a big man thing. Big men don't like to leave the paint.

Nah, don't do that, Danny.

Don't do that.

Don't disrespect me. Which one? Oh, who?

Like, that's true, right? Y'all like to gravitate. Y'all not as comfortable coming out. Like, Joel's not as comfortable coming out there. Not every big man. It really all depends on who the big is. Yeah. Most bigs don't like to be up. Like, first of all, you can't give up lob. So you're just more used to being back. Well, he asked what it is for Joel.

Joel has to be in a drop, and the reason why his drop sometimes might look like he's dropping too far or even look a little bit lazy, he don't move the same way he did five years ago when he was the defensive force. Joel used to be able to run a drop. His drop used to be he used to be up at the level a little bit more, and he could switch And sometimes, even if you beat him, he'd go back and block.

It at the rim.

He's motivated now, Brendan. He's motivated.

Hey, man, listen, you can motivate, but you can't motivate five a time.

Joel is back because he can get away with being back because he is skilled enough to still recover and block his shot. Like, he don't have to be up. He can still contest your shot. He can still get back to the rim. He's good enough to do that. So he's used to just backing up and then seeing and then making reaction play and still blocking a shot.

So that's why Joel comes back. But, yeah, he used to put a lot more effort in it. Obviously, he had to carry a lot of the offensive load, so he didn't do as much defensively. But now that he's going to play, like I said, a role player, he's probably going to have to play a little more defense up on the perimeter.

So let's talk Sixers offense real quick, then we'll get to the defensive side.

I love this conversation. Very spirited. Beautiful.

Chad is very appreciative of your guys' extensive basketball knowledge. Sixers had a balanced scoring attack with their starting unit, obviously paced by Tyrese Maxey. Maxey had 28 on 19 shots. Jalen Brown had 19 on 14 shots. Embiid had 13. On 15 shots, LeBron had 14 on 13 attempts. And Vijay Edgecombe had 9 on 10 attempts. Starters had 25 assists with just 10 turnovers. And like we mentioned, solid defensively.

But Gil, when you look at the Sixers squad, this is just game one. Do you anticipate that level of obviously sharing the shots and guys being, like we said, it's fine for game one.

We got the win.

But I don't feel like as the season goes on, That's going to sustain even if they are winning. Eventually somebody's going to want some more touches and some more shots.

No, it's this theory, right? As long as there's a pace, a fast-paced system, everyone can eat because you're going to put a lot of possessions into the game, right? So the only time that that hurts teams and players is when you have a guy who's going to hold it for 24 seconds. So now you've got a team that's taking 60 to 75 shots. Yeah, we're going to start looking at each other like, oh, damn, you're sitting there taking 90 to 100 shots? Oh, no, we're all fine with the shot attempts, right? So that was a low-scoring game, you know, for, you know, Philly. They're still trying to figure it out. They overly passed, trying to get a feel for each other. They're going to be scoring 115, 100, 20, 25 easy.

Which is why.

And forget that bench. You ain't got to worry about that bench. When they go LeBron at the five, that's going to be scary because you got KCP or.

Anthony Simon.

Like you have him in that mix too. So they're going to be a five out. Jalen Brown at the four. I don't know what you're going to do with that team.

And that's something. That's something. When I saw that, that's one thing where I think Cat got to take that. Cat has to stay out of foul trouble. Cat has to, like when LeBron at 42 years old switches on you, That's supposed to be immediate.

Yeah.

Run me to the block. Stop playing around. You got to make that man feel like he's 42 years old. Stop smirking at me, man. Listen, at the end of the day, Cat got to do that.

For real.

Like, you can't lie.

Still LeBron, though, B.

I don't care. He's 42.

But you act like Cat could just post LeBron.

He ain't that LeBron.

Still LeBron.

He's not that LeBron.

I know, no, no, no, no. Okay, what was you played with Michael Jordan?

Uh-huh.

Uh-huh. Was anybody, when he was 39, said, hey, hey, woo-hoo?

Yes.

And what happened?

Yes.

Bodied him.

Boy, Ron Artest used to always call for help.

Oh, that's physical. I'm just saying.

Ron Artest be like, hey! Mike's like, help! And he's crazy.

I'm like, yo, man, go help Mike, man.

Go help Mike. I'm talking about like a skilled player.

Al Harrington, same thing.

You're talking about everybody that's bigger than... Cat ain't bigger than LeBron. He is! He's 6'10.

Cat's 7 feet, bro.

Cat's 6'11. Body fat, 47. Okay? He's slimmer this year.

I know.

I just made that up.

I just made that up.

I can tell.

I can tell.

That man put a lot of work into his body. You're talking about he got a 40. I see. He do look good.

He do look good. Number eight, by the way.

But LeBron is strong, so he's.

Not going to back him down. Hold on.

When I say that Cat needs to go to the low block, that don't mean he need to go to the low block and play like it's 1995. Dribble, dribble, crab, dribble, drop step.

No.

You just got to go to your area, catch it on LeBron, one bounce, two bounce, maybe get to a little bump fade, bow, turnaround jumper, do your thing. At seven feet tall, LeBron can't affect your shot no more. Like, if you're Carl Anthony Towns, you can't let.

We beating that shit, Brendan.

Y'all need to stop. Y'all LeBron Glazers.

We beating that shit. Man, you crazy as hell, Joe. I'm just saying, when did you ever see him bop, bop, bop, fade away? You've been playing too much. When have you ever seen him bop, bop, bop, fade away?

What year? Hold on. I saw him get a lot more physical last year in the championship when he was playing against Wimby, taking it to the basket.

Yeah, but that's taking it to the basket playing regular basketball. I'm just talking about, hey, listen. He plays sloppy basketball.

What I'm saying, maybe you walk it down to 15 feet and you swipe through. Like you said, you do your little running hook.

Hey!

Whatever you did whatever you gonna do do that But what I don't want to see you do is allow brawn to guard you without going at him.

You can't be on the bench, bro Like shout out to Andre drumming. He kept them alive Like.

I'll take a little bit of the best player what happens when cat try to post Brian up he.

Gets a charge I.

And he comes back down and draws and does something else. Now he got two fouls.

LeBron ain't taking no charge.

Well, yeah, LeBron don't want to take no charge.

Yo, this is Philly LeBron. LeBron ain't taking no charge. No, what I'm saying is he don't need to take a charge because he knows, for the most part, Cat is going to take a shot. He's not going to try to bully him.

But I'm saying, to B's point, if Cat tried to put him in the post, if Cat tried to back him down, y'all don't see LeBron leaning back a little bit?

Unless it's a six foul. I'm going to tell you like this. LeBron don't really like to go down there and guard them big dudes like that. Danny, am I lying?

No, but again, he can guard.

He can do it.

I didn't ask Kenny. I said, Danny, does he like to do that?

It's not a preference. But that's younger LeBron. Danny's got to be so politically correct. That's younger LeBron. Huh? The 41-year-old LeBron. Yeah. This is old man at the gym, LeBron.

Exactly. Listen, you've got to make the old man at the gym. He'll give enough body, but again, Cat can shoot over him. Cat can get to his back. Again, Cat's just got to be on the floor to help their offense. But Cat can take advantage of that in a different number of ways. It doesn't have to be in the post. But, again, he helps their offense just being on the floor. If he's able to at least quarterback or set screens, be the pick-and-pop threat to where they can't guard Jalen, OG gets more looks on the weak side. The shit that Joel is seeing with Jalen Brown, they're supposed to see the same thing with Cat, with Brunson.

Brunson coming off the screen should be a double to where Cat's having a four-on-three with OG and Mikkel Bridges.

Yeah, that's not going to happen. Quickly, for everybody who's having audio issues, if you can hear me, refresh real quick.

Refresh. Come right back. Get a better phone. You can get a better phone. That's your Wi-Fi. That's not us because we're out here doing it.

So, yeah, I mean, that's how they won. They was able to move the ball, cat and shit.

Let's talk defensive side. So, Joel Embiid struggled offensively, big on the defensive end. After the game, he said, if I want to be all defense like I used to be, that changes everything for our team. So if I can play that way every single night, which I will, it changes everything.

He's able to still block. He blocked dunks and shit yesterday. I was like, oh, shit.

You just respect that mentality from a former MVP. I don't care about scoring anymore. I'm trying to lock up.

I don't know. Again, we'll see if this changes in a month. But, I mean, was that a goaltender when he blocked? German's dunk was hand in the rim.

No, it was outside.

It was outside?

Yeah.

He blocked a couple shots, man. It was impressive. He's able to still recover, slide, move, and still meet you at the rim. He's that skilled and he's that coordinated. But yeah, if he's taking a defensive approach... That allows those guys to play out on the perimeter freely. You know what I'm saying? Just send everybody to Joel and see if he can contest.

Do you think that makes them more dangerous if he takes.

A defensive role? Their biggest weakness is their defense. If they play defense, then they're.

Going to be.

I don't think when we're talking about the Philadelphia 76ers for the course of the season, the strategy can be to send people under Joel. He just hasn't demonstrated he's that style defensive player the last couple of seasons.

He was defensively.

If you look at defensive rating, he was probably the worst defensive player in the playoffs last year. Maybe he was banged up. Yeah, he's always been hurt. And that's the thing. He had like six blocks. I'm not saying that there's a difference between doing it consistently. The better defensive players, they don't just have a night it's a reputation of what they do. When we talk about Evan Mobley defensively, it's every night. We talk about Wimby, it's every night. It used to be every night for Joel Embiid defensively. Now he's been picking and choosing based on the health of his knees and his conditioning and things of that nature. So we got to see. And to give him credit, though, he looks slimmer, too. He looks

like he took the offseason really, really serious and that he's trying to, you know, get as much out of this season as possible.

From the Embiid standpoint, and I remember Pat Bev talking about, you know, Embiid obviously would show up to practice late. These are reports, but he had to get him right, had him running 17, getting his condition right. But when you see somebody like LeBron, Jalen Brown, these guys that are coming in that work on their bodies so tough and are elite, does that not motivate him to get right?

He got pressure on him, too. You've been here 12, 13 seasons. The process has not been trusted to this point. I got to do my job as well. If you want to be great.

Yeah. Remember, like, You got to think about all the greatest players that ever played in this NBA. They had teammates. That shit didn't rub off on everybody. The work ethic don't work. Niggas be coming here like, man, that shit look hard over there. I'm trying to get home to the wife. I've been trying to get home to the wife.

Some people are cool doing exactly what they do. I can come in 30 minutes before, take a couple shots, practice, take 15.

Shots, and leave and make a lot of money.

I don't have to go extra. I'm not that guy. Embiid's been doing it his way, averaging 35-12 MVP. There has to be something inside of him that's looking at these guys, put that extra work in, and say, you know what? You know, I'm going to do it. But just them doing it by themselves and telling him, if he's mentally not there, like, I don't give, I don't care about all that. He's not going to do it.

It's got to be who he is as a person.

Like you just said, like, everybody's, just because one guy works doesn't mean the next guy's going to be like, yeah, I'm going to do that too. Like, I remember watching you do, maybe the four-court shooting drill you used to do.

I was like. damn, that look hard.

I ain't doing that. Like, nah, because that drill was like, you're going back and forth. I remember, who was it, Avi Stewart?

He tried to do it with you. He almost died.

I was like, nah, nah, I like my lungs. I'm not doing that one. I'm going to do a little something different. But it's just, just because he was doing that, I'm like, nah, I'm probably not going to do that. That doesn't mean that Embiid's not going to be influenced, but just because certain guys do certain things, a lot of times guys get comfortable in their own bubble. They get comfortable in their own space. And B, he's been doing it his way for a long period of time, and he's been successful from a financial standpoint, NBA accolade standpoint.

He's been an MVP as well. So just because Jaylen Brown and LeBron are doing something doesn't mean he's automatically going to acquiesce and do what they want him to do.

He said in recent times, I'm focused on winning a championship now. I got all those accolades. I'm just being real.

I got all that. Gil, you were hiding underneath, but he's looking skinny, slender. Because you're saying you want to do it doesn't mean you know how, who's been in your circle recently. that's taking you to that next level. Now he has two guys that's here. So now he has to see them prepare and then say, hey, you know what? I need to take on this style, take on this style, because this is what made champions and finals MVPs. But just saying you want to do it without any reference, you're just saying that shit. Like, oh, I want to get in shape.

But hold on, let's look at the thing about it. What was the biggest problem between Shaq and Kobe? Where Kobe was working incredibly hard, he'd walk in, he'd be like, big fella, you're not maximizing my energy. Like, just because Kobe was going four workouts a day, taking a helicopter to the gym, don't mean Shaq was going to do it.

You know what I'm saying?

Because he's thinking just in that same vein. Yo, I've been killing these dudes doing it my way.

I've been killing the league.

Doing it my way. So just because one star does it one way doesn't mean the other star is going to be like, yeah, you know what? I'm going to be that too. It really depends on the person.

Is there a difference between the standard that's set for the team versus the standard that somebody set for themselves?

Yes.

Oh, yes. And it changes everything.

But can the standard that's set for the team enhance the way somebody sets a standard for themselves.

Yes, it could. The team standard, there's only a couple of teams that has team standards. But a team standard is be 30 minutes early, right? We have practice, get a couple shots, lift some weights. If you're doing that program as a pro, you'll be out of the league in three or four years. Okay, think about it. Let's just think about the concept of what we're saying. You go to practice, you go 30 minutes early. And you go and you're doing little workouts, right? How many shots you doing? 45, 50 little hook shots you're doing or whatever shots. Then you're doing team practice, which is structure for the team. You can go in there and play to an hour of pickup. How many shots you going to get? 10 maybe? 8, 5?

Not if you on my team.

Yeah, but I said so. You're not really. So, boom. You got 50 and 5. You got 55 shots. Then after, you might lift and might take a couple more shots. So for that whole day, you took 75 to 100 shots. Come on, man, you're doing better than that in the summer. That's why when people say, oh, he hit a wall, he can't shoot, because he ended up getting into a rhythm. Okay, we played back-to-back, had a day off. I really took a day off. Then we played a back-to-back. Oh, shit, I wasn't waking up at 6, get my 200 shots in, go to pre. So you were used to shooting 400 or 500 shots in the summer, get to the season, and you're taking 100? What? your percentage is going to dip, and you're going to feel it, and you're going to

feel like something just happened.

Hey, Danny, let me ask you a question, because you played for the Spurs, and I've always heard about the Spurs culture and their work ethic. Was their work ethic and the amount of shots that young guys got up before and after practice different than anywhere else, or was that just different?

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

What was it like? I mean, I think it became league-wide standard, like young guys had to come in earlier, because the bare minimum ain't enough.

Right.

Unless you're extremely talented, it can keep you there for a little while. but you ain't really going to develop doing the bare minimum. So the young guys automatically had to be like hour and a half beforehand doing shooting, whether it was some stretching and then some weight room thing and some medical staff and then watching film. So, yeah, the bare minimum league-wide became different. But everybody's identity, it's an individual and team identity changes. And when you have big changes like Philly, you're going to have to, Joel's going to have to have a new identity. What is the identity individually and with this team?

Does the individual's standards clash with the team at times?

A lot of times. The team wants you to play one way. Like I said, you want to be an all-star and they're like, we need you to be this.

Training-wise, what you're saying, a team might be saying, hey, we need you to rest. I don't need you to go out there and just work out with the players like, nah, this is what I do. I'm trying to sit here and get better. I got three workouts. I'm working out in the morning. I'm having teamwork. I'm coming back later on that day. They're saying, hey, you're looking fatigued out here.

We need you to take a break. That player, that star player is not thinking about right now. He's thinking about, I need to get in shape for the long term. So I got to fight through it right now. So there is a clash because the performance and the tiredness is going to kick in for that player because he's still trying to carry over to get ready for January 4th.

But then there's also a difference in what the team wants based on what the player wants. Let's look at somebody like Michael Porter Jr. in Denver. Hey, fam, we ain't got time for you to be out here shooting all these shots that aren't created for you. Now, you see what he's doing in Brooklyn. He's 20, what, 27 a game, whatever. He could never be 27 a game in Denver because Bigfella got to touch it. And Murray got to touch it. And so we see these teams like that's why there's always these guys. I say there's a guy on every bench. that might not even be in a rotation that can go to another team and average 15. Sometimes even, and then there's a guy that's in the rotation that if you give him more opportunity,

you know, he might be able, yeah, I can do more, but they had me doing this. Sometimes they turn you up. Sometimes they turn you down. When we went to Dallas, dog, they told Karan Butler, yo, he had to turn it down. Like, you know, Karan was used to doing this thing, dribbling, going into it. I said, hey, my man, fam, In the fourth quarter, don't you be taking them first-side jump shots.

It goes through Dirk and Jason Terry. They will create, and then it gets to you. Now, you know CB didn't like that.

He was chewing his straw, you know what I mean? He was like, you know, tough juice.

But Rick got that point to him, like, yo, Because Karam was like, yo, I'm good enough to get them shots. He's like, we know you're good enough, but we don't need that here. That's the difference. He was already an all-star. We don't need all-star Karam Butler here. For us to win a championship, we need those two guys to lead it, and we need you to be an all-star on certain nights.

That's the game in the league, and you got to be okay with that. Some guys ain't okay with that. To Karam's credit... He took it. He was like, all right, that's going to help us win. And that's why he was such a great teammate, and that's why he's also a really good coach for Miami.

But he had to learn it.

At the time, he hated that shit. Didn't like it at all.

I wouldn't.

If I was an all-star and then somebody told me, don't shoot the ball in the fourth quarter, you know how CB get down. You about to whip your ass for shooting the ball. You know what I'm saying?

So they tell you something like, don't shoot the ball in the fourth quarter. Is it literally don't shoot the ball in.

The fourth quarter? quarter?

It means stay away from certain... When they tell you, they're like basically.

You're not doing what you're doing. Yeah.

In the fourth quarter.

Of course you can shoot the ball, but we're not running offense through you in the fourth quarter. We run offense through this way in the fourth. Now, if you get a look, cool, but we ain't going through your ice. Yeah, that's basically.

That's why we.

Wait till Christmas is because most teams don't have an identity. Most individuals... I don't have any with that team until around Christmas time, especially when you're with a new group. So it's game one. We ain't going to overreact, but we're going to see how it goes from here.

We might as well.

Think about it.

Now think about a workout. They gave you a plan to be in a corner and take open shots. And you're a creative player. You don't work all summer to create all these pick and rolls and do, do, do. Now they're saying, hey, no, sit you in the corner, shoot, spot up threes. And you're like.

We just talked about that.

I don't sit spot up three. So what ends up happening is now think about your individual workout. You literally have to sit there and say, you know what? I have to think about the long game. I'm going to still keep doing me. I'm going to put their system in here and I'm going to still keep doing me. Usually people be like, you know what? Fuck what I was doing. Let me just take these spot up shots. Right.

And you lose who you were. And now you just stuck here. That happens a lot, too. Yeah.

But, again, so the way he did it, there are going to be opportunities where you can still do a little bit and show it. Once you show you can do it, it may not be a lot. Then they'll give you more of a leash. Be like, oh, he actually can come off pick and roll. So if you keep working on that. But, again, once you're an eight- to ten-year vet, it's like, oh, we're bringing you in to do this. It's all we need from you, really.

That's interesting.

Well, let's shift over to the Knicks side quickly before we move on. So Knicks finished third in the East last season for putting together a historic playoff run. Decided to run it back with most of their championship roster with Drummond replacing Mitchell Robinson. Obviously, emotional night, ring night, first banner 53 years, all that good stuff. That chapter's closed.

Now we're on to this season and the title defense. So is this Knicks squad built to defend their title? Or did the Sixers expose something about them in game one?

Nah, man, it's game one. Listen, and Danny keeps saying it, I'm going to rehash it. It's game one.

Do not overreact.

Don't overreact to what you see the first month of the season. It don't get real until probably sometime after Christmas.

Yeah. Like, there's going to.

Be some up-and-start, up-and-coming young team that's really, really in shape that's going to play well. They're going to fade. It happens every year. Listen, the Knicks didn't shoot the ball well. It was their ring ceremony night. It was an emotional night. Brunson didn't play well. OG didn't play well.

Cat got in foul trouble. Bridges didn't play well. And they were still right there. It's one game. You're going to play 82 of them. The Knicks are still one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference. They still have the best closer in the game in Jalen Brunson. And then they have a well-put-together roster. And even a guy like Drummond, he just proved early on, hey, he's going to be able to help these guys coming in with that quick double-double in the first half. So I like what this team has. They do have the camaraderie.

I'm not overreacting to one game. They'll be just fine.

I'm with B. I think they're built to get back to the finals. I don't know about winning. Watching that West game, those two monsters out West, whoever comes out of that, that series, I think is going to win. But Knicks couldn't get to the finals again. It is going to be a harder route. They ain't going to breeze through teams like they did last year where they just smacked up. They only lost two games to Atlanta.

They smacked up Philly. They smacked up Cleveland. And they end up winning in sixth, even against San Antonio.

I think last year.

He won in five.

Five.

Five, shit. I think the Spurs lost the finals more than the Knicks won it.

Oh, no doubt.

The Spurs are winning 71% of the time.

And I think we're going to see that this season with the Knicks. I think we're going to see a lot of things get exposed.

Like what?

That worked for them, like Brunson dominating the ball.

That's what he does. Yeah, but it ain't going to work.

I don't think that's going to work this season.

Against those teams when they meet in the finals.

No, he said during the course of the season.

It will. The regular season.

Regular season.

In the regular season, Big Buddy Brunson is going to do his thing for sure.

We know he's going to do his thing.

He's Brunson.

I'm saying I don't know if it's as effective as it was last year. Now that people kind of know the identity of what that team is, I feel like them losing Mitchell Robinson was a big piece, right? Because he was that hustle kind of, I could hack somebody right quick and change the trajectory of the game thing.

I think a lot of what helped them get through is no longer there. Now Brunson, Kat. Even Mikael got to carry a weight that I don't know if the team could execute with. And I could be completely wrong, but that's just my opinion.

We'll see, man. We'll see what kind of hangover they got. But I think they built to be solid this year.

The hardest part of being a champion is just coming back with the same heart.

And repeating and repeating.

It's not like, do they have the skill? Do they have the players?

Yes.

It's that hunger. Like, I saw them saying that Mike Brown made the team sign a contract that last year was last year.

Yeah, this year.

You got to get 12 dudes after they even got to the mountaintop.

The pinnacle.

To believe.

To believe.

To be hungry enough to do. That's what made Jordan Jordan. He got to the mountaintop like, I still want it again. That's what made Kobe Kobe. I got to the mountaintop. I still want it again. That's why Mike was so hard on this team.

And you had LeBron in it?

Huh? LeBron for sure for sure.

Like I'm not a LeBron hater I'm a LeBron truth teller I'm not no no no because I'm never going to be the glazer but at the same time I'm never going to I'm never going to be overly critical I'm going to tell it just the way I see it and so LeBron is in that category too it was just that Kobe and Mike understood it and then they would implement that to their team. Like, I know I got to motivate. That's why Mike was always sometimes hard on his teammates. Yo, I know I got to get you guys to kind of get this same hunger that I got because it ain't in you. Everybody ain't got that hunger. You can't buy it in stores. They ain't selling it at Target. You know what I'm saying?

That hunger when you win a championship to want to run back and do it again is different.

So, Gil, let's shift over to you. Eight NBA seasons, eight different champions. I think one of the longest streaks in league history with a new champion every season.

We've talked about the forward teams. Here's the reason.

With teams trying to run it back, it's all with the Celtics, all with the Nuggets. Teams trying to run it back and thinking they're going to replicate that.

Some people are just stupid. What the hell?

What's the reason, though, that there's eight different champions, though, Gil? Hey, man, let them cook. Let's see where this is going.

Because the joy of winning that is what they're satisfied with. And there's this real... This thing of loyalty in the sense of we won. Let's run it back with the same team because they got to defeat us. Motherfucker, that's what they're doing. They're loading. They got beat. They got mad. They loaded up. They added shit to their team to help them beat you. And you're saying you're going to run it back with the same shit. You just beat me in a race. I got new tires, a new engine, new brakes, and you're going to run it back with the same car?

All right.

Okay. Like, I don't know where they come up with the concept of this. You have the advantage.

You won.

They got better. You get better. That's what, you take steroids? God damn it, I'm taking steroids.

That's what we doing?

That's what the 90s did. Barry Bonds out this bitch like, ah! You see a motherfucker come back like this? Oh, okay. Let me get my shit back. What the hell was that? That's his little shot of that. What in the hell are you doing?

What I'm saying is you got to really think about it. Look at how it works. If I'm beating you.

That was the most Paul thing moment I've ever seen on this couch.

You get better than me, I'm jumping up. You sign somebody, I'm signing somebody. I am not going to run it back with my same team and four all-stars is over there. The fuck are y'all really thinking?

Is it safe to say that's what OKC did?

No, they added up. You got to add up.

Add it. But then you have to add up. A 72 team, a 72, was it 73-9? What'd they win? 73-9? The Warriors team, bro. 73-9, I lost. I get Kevin Durant. I don't give a fuck what y'all talking about. Putting it back, you win. Give me Kevin Durant. I don't care what y'all talking about. Give me Kevin Durant. Bulls, we lost Horace Grant. Give me Dennis Rodman. Like, who's playing these monkey-ass running back games? We're trying to build a dynasty here. I'm not going to run it back with the same team while everybody's mad and got better. So, no, they have no chance. They didn't improve. Everybody improved. That's not the same East.

It's not the same East. The East has gotten so much stronger. You got Kawhi.

Why? Because they won, right? So they're going to keep the same lineup. We're getting better. I need to add more pieces to beat you. And you're going to run it back with the same plate. All right. So since we know the recipe, all right, we're going to play regular basketball. Fourth quarter, just double Brunson. Just double Brunson.

You know why? Because Brunson takes 95% of the shots in the fourth quarter. So now we're going to make them take 5% and see if they are ready for 95% of taking Brunson shots. And no, they're not. Who's not? The team.

Why do you think that?

Because they never had to.

So you've never seen OG on an OB hit clutch shots?

Clutch shots after he got the ball from Brinson.

Exactly.

No, you're not going to get the ball from Brinson.

No, you are going to get the ball from Brinson.

No, no, no, no. You're going to get the ball from Jason Hart.

Hold on, hold on, hold on.

We're going to double off with Jason Hart. You're going to pass to Jason Hart. Jason Hart. Who? Josh Hart.

Josh Hart.

I'm sorry.

You took back the Syracuse.

You took back the Syracuse.

I know why you said Jason Hart. Because Jason Hart bust your ass.

Yeah. When he played for the Bobcats. So you got you got Josh Hart, so it's like alright Josh Hart you become Brunson now.

No, but that's not what you.

Become Brunson now because we're not playing these games with Brunson. I'm not gonna play We're gonna switch on the Brunson and Brunson's gonna tear us in last night. We know he doesn't prove he can do it Can.

I ask a question?

Who was the most clutch player in the playoffs last year?

Brunson.

Who was the most clutch player in the playoffs the year before that?

Brunson.

Who was the most clutch player in the NBA last year?

Thank you for proving my point.

No, you're proving my point.

SGA. Huh? Brunson.

What I'm saying is that Brunson is always one of the guys that leads the NBA in fourth quarter and clutch buckets. And people ain't just double teaming and getting it out of his hands. And sometimes when they do, that's when you swing, swing, and we get OG on a no be getting shots in the corner. We get Carl Anthony towns getting wide open shots. Those guys are capable of hitting shots, but I don't, I don't know why you're acting like they're not.

You're saying exactly what I'm saying. He is clutch. Clutch means what? He's getting buckets himself. Then when he gets enough buckets, we're like, fuck, now we're going to double.

Who did that?

Not already. Now, as soon as the fourth quarter starts... Double. From the beginning, pass it to Josh. Now, Josh, you dictate the rest of this fourth quarter.

What I'm saying?

From the beginning. There's no clutch shit from you. You do everything from the beginning of the game. We're not going to let the energy of him just hitting eight. Now they want to double. Now he sits there. He scores. Now they're like, oh, shit. Back to Brunson. Now Brunson's sitting there popping your ass. That's how they always play.

So if it's so easy, how come no one's doing it? Why is he so clutch then?

That's... They won.

Exactly.

They won, so now we're going to do it.

Oh, so it takes them to win the championship.

Yes. It always takes, like, I don't believe you're going to win the championship doing it this style. You win it doing it this style, shit, we got to adjust. Steph Curry, oh, you want to shoot 100 threes from the half court? Do it your way. Oh, shit, he won the NBA, he won the championship. Let's play defense now. Like, you have to prove it first. He proved it.

What are you talking about? I was on that team playing against Steph. They didn't let him do anything. We threw the kitchen sink at Steph Curry.

In that series.

When?

When his first championship.

When Eagle Dollar got the championship.

I'm talking about the whole style. Why do you think Eagle Dollar got the championship? We're talking about the whole style. It's actually going to my point.

The whole style of Curry, nobody was like, we're not on that until he proved that this style wins. Then it became, oh shit, we got to adjust. No, no.

What happened is everybody said, oh shit, we got to try to be that. Why do you have to be that? Because it's working. What I'm saying is, you're saying that they're going to be able to swing the ball. That's how Iguodala and those guys were getting shots. And that's what I'm saying is for the Knicks, if you want to double team Brunson, they got guys on the weak side. Bridges, OG, Cat, they can hit spot-up shots. There's no spot-up, nigga.

Create your own shot. I'm not letting him create it for you. You do it yourself. Why would they do it to me?

You're saying they're doubling him.

What happened yesterday when they did it?

Y'all just won doing it that way. They're not going to let him hit the ball. So I think what Gil's saying is like ….

We're not letting him create often. Okay, you're gonna sit here and I want you to sit here and do the tween tween and do that I'm not letting him do it. Okay, so soon as you get the ball half-court trapping right there Give it a Josh hot Josh heart. What is he gonna do? He's gonna dribble hard like he's gonna go He's gonna wait for bunsen to get down there and then he gonna throw back the bunsen bus is gonna call a big up We're gonna do a pick and roll don't switch it then he's gonna sit here and bop this shit out you we're not doing.

That That is not what they have to do because a lot of times what Josh Hart does is he gets downhill and then what does he do? He forces the defense over and he kicks it to the corner and that's when the guy gets an open shot. How many times have you seen Bridges out here with the ball? He normally gets to the mid-range.

Exactly. Now I'm going to make him do bop, bop, Because it's not going back to Brunson.

You know what good teams do? They play to their strengths. They play to their strengths. So, no, we're not going to see OG Ananobi, even though he is capable of driving the ball to the basket, out here trying to beat Jalen Brunson. When you double-team Jalen Brunson, that's two on the ball. That means we have an advantage on the back side of the defense. When he kicks it ahead and they make one more pass, somebody about to get a layup or an open three. You know this.

Do you know where they struggle at? When they take the ball out, Indiana did it the best. Pick them up full court. Brunson don't want to waste his energy. He's going to give it to Josh Hodge. Josh Hodge is going to take off. Josh Hodge is not going to go from there to then score. They're going to wait for their man. They're not playing offense without him touching the ball in the half court. He's not getting that ball back. Okay, we'll see. We've seen it last night.

He got 19 shots.

What do you mean?

He got 19 hard shots. We'll see. What happened to everybody else after they was doubling? We will see. Where was this shooting at? We will monitor this.

Shit look a little rough.

I know because there's defense there now. They ain't there by themselves.

All right.

Let's keep this thing moving. It's time to try and finesse some bread on Poly Market. This is put that on something.

I thought you said Towns is trying to finesse somebody with that. It is 200 million.

This is put that on somewhere. We'll give you a trade on the Poly Market app. You got to pick a side and put that on something. So the Luka Doncic era officially begins in Los Angeles tonight as the Lakers open the season. Against the Warriors, Steph Curry and them coming to town. Lakers had no problem with Steph and the Warriors during the LeBron era, but now Slovenian Jesus takes over the reins in L.A. Lakers are the heavy favorites to get the season opening win. 67% of traders on Polymarket picking them to get the dub on the dubs, while 34% of traders are rolling with the Warriors.

You see it right here. On the what?

34, so 67% got the Lakers.

34% Lakers heavy favorite.

No Porzingis, no Jimmy.

In this one.

Let's take it to the couch. Brendan, we will start with you. Who's winning tonight's Warriors-Lakers season opener in Los Angeles, the Luka Doncic era?

Hey, man, listen, I think the Drinchified Lakers are going to win, man. I think when you look out there, what?

The exciting ones.

Simple like that.

Snowtime.

I think that, yes, snowtime, that's a good, but I just think that when you look at Luka, you look at AR, I like Walker Kessler as a pick and roll option. Danny just brought up there's no Porzingis. We don't know when he's coming back. No Jimmy Butler. I just think the Golden States had their time. It's one game.

Anything can happen.

But if I'm putting some bread on it, man, I'm going with the Lakers, man. Roll with the winners.

Mm-hmm.

I think I think the Lakers, man, like if we I was looking at their roster the other day and it looks similar to the team that Luca went to the finals with in Dallas. Like if you look at Walker Kessler, it looked like Derek Lively.

Right.

If you look at a Quinn Grimes, it kind of feel like P.J.

Washington.

If you look, I'm not going to. compare Kyrie and Austin Reeves, right? But Austin Reeves can score the ball.

Ky Reeves.

You know what I'm saying? Hey, hey, hey. It's a similar team.

Don't do that. Don't do that. Don't do that. Don't you do that, Joe. Joe, don't do it.

But Austin Reeves can score the ball, right? So when I look at the team, it's like, damn. I think we're underestimating them, as my brother just said, because they're gentrified. And we're looking at them as the white Lakers or the snow-time Lakers. And we're not realizing, like, man, Luka may be more comfortable with this than he ever was with Brian.

Oh, for sure.

Right?

And I think he'll have the freedom to kind of do what he did in Dallas with this team. So I think I could see this team landing somewhere 6-7 in the West, in my opinion.

I could be wrong, but... I respect it. So, Dan, let's go to you because I already know what Gil's going to say, but let's go to you first.

I mean, I think they win this game pretty handily. It's an easy win. Again, I had them higher than six. I had them four or five. They were four seed last year. I think it's all reliant on, you know, I've seen Walker Kessel. He's pretty damn good. His health, because he makes the active plays. He can rebound. He can't teach size, but he's mobile. He's coordinated. He makes the second effort plays. Like, he'll get back. He was behind Wimby in block shots per game, obviously. Small sample size.

He's high field goal percentage. When you have that type of big and you got those two guys that can come off pick and rolls and they're masterful at pick and roll and also can draw fouls. Austin's only getting better every year. They're going to be a top five seed in the West and they're going to Golden State.

They don't know where they are right now.

So like.

It's an identity. Both, I mean, it's a new team for Lakers, so they're still figuring out the identity, too. But Golden State don't have their main pieces, so it's going to be tough for them. Tough start.

I mean, they do know who they are. They do. And what they are.

Yeah.

Trash. Ass.

Let's shift over to you. He thought that the standard was low for them thinking the media thing and, like, their goal is to make the playoffs.

Mm-hmm. He said the standard is low.

He's like, damn, we only make the playoffs. That's what he's, you know, we've seen this in the media today. Not a championship, no, we're just trying to make the playoffs.

Jesus.

The executive producer of Holy Moly.

Gil, I know what you're going to say, so make it quick.

I'm just surprised. I mean, you know, I guess that's, you know, Oakland. Dodds.

Why they got it.

They're not coming out of there voting.

How was it?

37%?

Yeah, 37%. That's kind of high.

Woo! Woo! Yeah, man, that's all Lake's show. I don't know. I don't know who's there that's going to actually help.

Curry.

He's going to have 30, 35, 40, 50. Pod's not playing today. Pod's not playing today? I don't think so. Damn.

That's a blowout.

I don't know.

Pod's ain't playing? He might have a shot. No, but it's one of those days where Curry's going to be in shape. We know he takes... Conditioning very serious. So he's going to be out there. He has the advantage when you look at the people that's going to be guarding him. For the most part, he's going to have the advantage over Austin Reeves, Grimes, foot speed, style, moving.

So he's going to be putting up shots. I just don't see through four quarters how... How Golden State keeps up. They just don't have enough body out there.

And I don't think he can last running by himself. I said, Golden State, as a team, they're stuck.

They're ass.

Well, no.

They might be, but they're stuck. Because they're good enough to compete because they have Steph, but the championship run is over. What they really need is two sticks of dynamite and blow it up. But they don't... I'm serious. Like, kaboom. But they don't want to do that because they want Steph to be able to finish his career out there in Golden State.

But.

This team is properly constructed. Man, they don't have nothing at the rim that's scaring you. Like, they don't got no young dog. I mean, well, you got Yaxel, but he's still a rookie. Like, you're trying to win a championship and a rookie's going to be your second best option. Like, this Golden State team, listen, they got everything out of that championship run. They got multiple titles.

You know what I'm saying?

Hey, they got four of them things, but the run is over.

But when you say it's over, right?

It's over.

It's over.

I'm a big guy.

I'm a big guy. I can't just let y'all say that.

Right.

We still got Jimmy.

Right.

We still got Draymond.

We still got Kurt.

Were they there last year? Jimmy got come back.

All of them was there last year. Jimmy was not.

Jimmy was hurt.

Steph was hurt, and he's hurt this year.

Jimmy was hurt. Steph was hurt, right? We get Jimmy back. We got Draymond. We get Curry. Is there a way to blow it up? with keeping those three.

No, because you're going to need to replace those salaries and you're going to need to get younger. Look at the teams that we think are going to win championships. They got, we were talking about Philly. Yeah, they got Bron and everything, but they got a maxi, a young dog. When we talk about OKC, we're talking about SGA. We're talking about J-Dub, Chet, young players, active. When we talk about the Spurs, it's Wimby, it's Castle. It's Harper. Man, when you got these young dogs ascending and you're getting older, it's a wrap. It's a wrap for Golden State. And that's no disrespect. They had their time. They ran this league for maybe an eight to 10 year gap. They did what they did, but it's over. They're not threatening nobody.

Like you think the Timberwolves are walking in there scared of them? They're looking at them like food. Ain't nobody in that paint scaring Ant-Man. Laying that up.

Easy work.

So do you think... Pods is the player that.

Whoa, man.

My point.

I'm not saying he is.

I'm not saying he is. I was going to make a point about Kaminga. I was going to make a point about Kaminga and James Wiseman. What I was about to say was by them going so fully in with Pods, do you think them not letting Kaminga and James Wiseman develop kind of hurt them?

Yes.

But they were caught, though. They were caught in a movement that never works. They were a championship team.

What's that movement?

Being a championship team that's trying to develop young players. That doesn't go hand in hand. Championship teams don't have time to develop the young guys because they don't let those young guys play through their mistakes. The young players normally get to, hey, all right, you go to a sorry team. You make a mistake, we sit you down, we tell you what you're doing, and we put you back in that game. There's a difference between playing to develop and playing to win. And they had half the roster playing this way, other half of the roster playing that way, and it just didn't work out. But it's almost impossible to have a championship aspiration while we're trying to develop five young guys at the same time. They

got the most out of it.

They did. They could have kept some guys.

They wasn't smart enough.

Jordan Poole.

They had another iteration, not the same as Clay and Steph, but they got an iteration of a good young core with those guys that they kept some of them.

Yeah, the ego of the coach trying to adapt to, I call it, basic basketball. So when you look at the league and you look at Kerr, there's this coaching laziness when it's like, okay, I want to play this guy. He's not that smart, but his attributes we needed, right? Kerr wasn't going to do that. So you're drafting these kids, which they had the San Antonio blessing where they had a championship team. Everyone got hurt. They got a top two, three pick, which could have been LaMelo. Right? They took Wiseman.

They don't have time to put the work in on them. Technically, you didn't need to. Time, just working and getting better would have helped that. So if you took all the draft picks they picked, today, those picks helped them move forward and survive. Mm-hmm. So you're talking about the Jordan Poole, the Wiseman. Who else are they having? Kaminga, right?

There's some.

What was the shooter?

Moody.

Moody, yeah, Moody. But if you add that group and you blend them in, you're talking about a very different team. There's no way if all those guys stay right now, Draymond Green is still a starter. They would have upgraded these pieces... to now you have Steph in this age, still being able to be dominant, but you have a fast core. You have a core that can do the heavy lifting.

But based off Draymond's IQ and experience, you don't... You're.

Going to put him at the five, but you don't need him. He's not a main force in a main piece. He's just one of the pieces that's going to develop this group to just carry on. It's like when Tim came. You got Tim Ginobili, but... The people around him is veteran veterans. He just has to come in, play smart, and just do the heavy lifting. All right, David, I got this. Don't even worry about it. Right? But Sean, you have what? Elliott, you have a team that won 50-plus games the three years before he got there. Right?

So they got put in a perfect situation. And he just fumbled it like, I'm not coaching these dumbass kids. You know, I got Steph Curry. I got Klay. This is dumb shit to me.

And it's going to be hard to rebuild through the draft now, too.

Now it's too late.

They're not allowing teams to get back-to-back top lottery picks like that either.

That was sufficient discourse on an ass team that is the Golden State Warriors.
