Welcome back to Gil's Arena, presented by Polymarket and powered by Playmaker. There we go. That's the excitement we like. Glorious Friday here in the arena. Means it's almost the weekend. May or may not get a day off. But I'm merely a host, Josiah Johnson. I'm here with NBA legend, 2K Unc, with badges, Gilbert Arenas. Yeah.

My dog.

My dog.

We got NBA champion of the world, Swaggy P, Nick Young, back on the couch. Bringing his championship experience, amongst other things. Knowledge of all things corner. The original champion. The original champion. Knowledge of all things corner, corner boys, and the like.

I think he won championship. Oh, I've never seen my corners. Right there. Right, he took his corners. Hostable.

I said original.

That's why I said the original.

He won an OG corner, boys.

He won an OG. Yeah.

We got NCAA champion and three-time NBA champion of the world.

He's not in the arena.

You can check out his Inside the Green Room podcast or catch him calling Lakers games.

Danny Green, welcome back. Can we address something?

We can address it. Can we address something?

If he was a starter averaging 18 and the man on the team, can he call himself a corner boy?

Nah.

Later on, it became one, though.

Yeah, but that's just, that's everybody.

No, no, no, no, no.

You can't. When I come, when the star come in, I go to the corner.

When the star come in.

It's levels.

A corner boy is not when the star comes in. Cal Corver was Cal Corver the whole time.

Yeah, you always a corner.

He's a corner.

Yeah, always a corner.

We always on the block, man.

You're on the block.

Tell me what a corner is. You ain't been there until the end.

I've been there. You was on the front lines early is what he said. You was too good to be a corner boy early.

Who? Yeah, he started.

No, no, no, no, no.

And he was getting buckets. I'm an elite. There's like levels to it, you know.

Elite corner. Corner with freedom. There you go.

Okay. Nah.

Reformed corner.

How many plays you had called for you during games? See, that's what I'm talking about.

Now, what if Tim Duncan wasn't there? They calling plays for you?

Probably not.

Okay, how about if Tony's not there, they calling plays for you?

Four guys would have to be, like.

Three guys.

See, that's what a corner boy is. Four people, and it's like, it's just me. You.

It was only one person that was on with Lakers, Kobe.

That's the only person that told you to go in the corner.

So when Kobe comes back, I'm in the corner.

Four people have to be back.

That's an equal. That's the same thing. No, no, no, no, no, no. It was only Kobe.

Because Shaq was a corner boy.

After Kobe's third year, Shaq was.

A corner boy. Karl Malone was a corner boy. Gary Payne for sure was a corner boy. Everybody was a corner boy. Corners with freedom. You go into it as you need.

When you put it like that. Well, we got a lot to discuss today. Here's what's cracking in the arena. After tense negotiations, Jalen Dern and the Pistons finally got a deal done.

Another zero paid.

Another zero making that month. Zero to hero.

What are realistic expectations for the all-NBA big man this season? Is there going to be any lingering bitterness with how the contract was handled?

I got to buy my jersey.

You're getting a Jalen Dern jersey? I don't like broke zeros. You know, he's zero to zero. Zero to hero. He's a hero now. Let me go ahead and get that.

At least one wizard admitted to tanking For the top pick, but is the franchise ready to change their culture this season? And Kawhi and Giannis' new teams open the preseason against each other. Which superstar has more pressure on them this season?

We'll see.

Mostly fans, back for our Super Chat. Throw something in the offering plate. Drop your questions. Please, if you don't mind, we'll pick some of the best to answer at the end of the show. You guys have been doing a great job. Sending those super chats in. We've been trying to hit all of them every single episode. But listen, I need to tell y'all about this new sports trading app I discovered. It's called Polymarket. It's the most exciting way to trade in sports, and it's a nationwide, federally regulated prediction market. Polymarket is the best prediction market, better than Coushey, DraftKings, and FanDuel. In the past, if you wanted a position on a game, you'd put your money in and get locked in. until the very end, but

Polymarket lets you trade games like you would a stock, buying in and selling out entirely on your terms. When your team drops to 20 cents, you buy the dip, and when they jump to 40 cents, you sell, lock in your gains, and double your money without waiting for the final whistle. And it isn't just sports. You can trade on culture, news, and current events. Plus, they have a squads feature where you can talk and trade with your friends. Any trade a member places drops right into the chat as a card, and anyone can hit buy to take that same pick in one tap. Ditch the old limitations and trade on your terms. Download the Polymarket app and use code ARENA. And when you deposit just $ 10, you'll unlock $ 25 in bonus funds. That's code ARENA to

get $ 25 in bonus funds when you deposit $ 10 on Polymarket and Gil's Arena, everywhere you want to be. So shout out to everybody watching the show on Twitch. If you have not done so already, subscribe to our Twitch channel at Gil's Arena Show. And we appreciate y'all for all the subs and all the love. So let's get right to it. Biggest news of the day. After a months-long contract stalemate that spilled into training camp, Jalen Dern and the Pistons finally got a deal done, agreeing to a five-year, fully guaranteed $ 200 million extension. Just hours before the deadline for Dern to sign his one-year qualifying offer, which would have made him an unrestricted free agent next summer, Pistons' offer initially included a weight clause, which was removed earlier

this week, with Dern.

Giving up nearly $ 90 million.

To get the deal done. The deal does not include an option on either side. So, Danny, we're going to start with you. Did Jalen Duren make the right decision agreeing to a five-year, $ 200 million extension with the Pistons?

I mean, I don't think in any world this is a wrong decision.

Okay.

You know, probably long overdue. Some people thought it should have happened sooner. But I hope he's happy. If not, I'm sure we'll see it in his play. But either way, I think he's a young kid that wants to compete, wants to win. Close with his teammates, Cade Cunningham, Asor, like they all got paid. They can now focus on basketball and After a couple weeks, everybody will forget about this, and then they'll just be hooping. And hopefully he'll be professional, put this behind him, and be an All-NBA member again and continue to show why he deserves this or earned this.

And it's probably a cheap deal in a couple years if he continues to keep going in that trajectory. So, yeah, always a smart decision to sign the money that's in front of you, especially when it's a big deal like this.

Get the bag. Move over to Swaggy. Jalen Dern made All-Star All-NBA last season for the first time. Had a great regular season, average 20 points, 11 rebounds. Struggled a little bit in the post season. But got a new five year deal, fully guaranteed, no options. $ 200 million.

Did Durham make the right decision?

Yeah, you know, he stood his ground. It was, you know, going back and forth. Had a little, you know, like all relationships, got ups and downs. Get mad, I put a weight clause in yourself, you know, just to mess.

With you a little bit. Felt like a hate clause.

For sure.

But, yeah, like Danny said, I think, you know, after a couple games, this is all they'll forget about it. Get on that court. Now you're with your team. I feel like he can rest. He had a long summer. I think that's one of the first times in a while that we've seen somebody wait out and actually get the deal.

You know, I haven't seen....

We've seen some bad things lately, the last couple years. People waiting this long until September or April. Things don't go their way, so.

September to April.

I mean, August, August, August, August.

Hey, so now you got to wait? Yeah.

Well, April, too, because they could have signed.

Him April, too. I think that's illegal, too.

You're just breaking shit.

Nah, nah, nah, nah, nah.

They could have gave him extensions. But forget all that.

Don't work. We're not going to harp on that.

I know for him, he's looking around. I mean, all NBA, all-star.

He wanted to get the same type of treatment as everybody else that's, you know, in that type of, you know, caliber.

And. It's not 280, but you got 200. You should be happy, man.

222 years old.

You could get another deal if you keep playing like this, a bigger one.

200.

Like I said, no player options. Fully guaranteed five years. Shift over to you, Gil. You've been very adamant throughout this process that Jalen Dern get his back, not mess.

Around, cost himself money. See you over here.

He didn't listen to you, though.

Smirking. He didn't listen.

No, he didn't.

You told him to sign a deal with the White Claw.

Give him a phone.

Didn't matter what it was. I don't even know why they reported a weight clause. They're acting like a weight clause matters to someone.

Who reported it gives the question.

Zion didn't get hampered by the weight clause. Shaquille O'Neal didn't get hampered.

By the weight clause. He's the only one that's fit to have one.

I mean, what's the matter with weight clause? Rip Hamilton had a weight clause. He had to gain weight.

Yeah, he had to gain weight.

So he would just put two five-pound weights on the side and go weigh himself. That's what they were doing in those fishing competitions.

I didn't know that. Again, he's not a guy that has to worry about his weight. I'm doing what I'm supposed to do when you're in shape. It don't matter.

It's just putting shit in there. Listen, this is just like Monopoly, man.

Pass, go collect the fucking $ 200. And that's what you did. And that's when the game starts.

That first round, that first round is just free play.

Your rookie deal, free play. You just collected your $ 200. Now you got to go out there and just play. Free play, you banked it. This is bank money right now. Now whatever you're doing after that is going to capitalize on that. So always say, man, don't jeopardize. If you don't have the full leverage, don't jeopardize that first bag.

Right? 22 years old, you're going to get one when you're 26. Right?

You're going to get one when you're 30. You say shit like that, 34, you're going to.

Hit him again. Right? So, you know, like, just make sure you get the one that keeps you calm. You ain't got to stress for the rest of you, goddamn.

And it's only going up.

It's only going up.

He could end up making 600.

Easy.

In his career.

Shit, he can make 600 off the next, about 250, shit, 300.

Yeah, close to it.

Man, $ 300, $ 265. Like, yeah, he going to touch $ 600, $ 700. That's why I was like, like.

Listen to the ones that, like, we're not the ones telling you to hold out. I know what it looks like when you hold out. I know how people play when they hold out. Take that money that's in your hand. And how they play you when you hold out.

How they play you. So, hey, man, listen, right now.

Go on vacation.

Hey, listen to me.

Go on vacation. Take a 24-hour vacation.

Celebrate. You deserve it.

Rough summer.

It was awesome.

Skip media day.

Skip this whole week of training camp waiting to get this deal done.

That's why the weight clause is in here.

I just signed that money. I just signed that money. I'm about to go on vacation, god damn it. He gave them the weight clause.

I'm going to wait until the last possible moment to sign this shit so I can take a little time off. But just looking at his contract negotiations, messy from the start. President of Basketball Ops, Trajan Langdon, saying, Durant's poor playoff performance would be a factor in determining the numbers behind the deal. Making comments this week about Durant being disgruntled after having not spoken to him directly all offseason and also saying he's dealt with disgruntled players in New Orleans.

We talked about that earlier and we didn't name names. Durant also had a lack of fan support, had the weight clause. I mean, the disrespect was pretty loud going into this. I mean, if I'm Jalen Durant, I'm feeling underappreciated. Low ball offers, I think 170 to 190 was the initial Got it up to 200. But 170 off the jump, I just made All-NBA. I'm an All-Star. Look what I did to change the culture here. We used to be boo-boo.

Now we're barbecue.

This is business, man.

It is, but.

Okay, see, like... I get it. This is no offense. Don't take the attitude of the star player. Take that shit as a second or third option.

No. That's how you address it. Austin Reeves, you turn down the money 90%. You played.

You wasn't offended that they offered you this because there is a LeBron James and there is a Luka Doncic, right? So don't sit there and pretend you almighty and you bigger than you really are because your all-star and your all-NBA ain't really coming from your stats.

I'm a top 15 player in the league.

No, no, no. I'm a top 15 player in the league.

Are you a top 15 player because of you or your team's success?

That's very different.

It don't, but I'm a top 15 player in the league.

When it comes to the people who are making the decisions, this ain't no fucking fan signing this deal.

These are the owners.

Did you make it off your merit or did you make it off the algorithm of Cade getting us here and you are a part of this and we're going to pick two people from this team for you to make this all-star game?

A whole bunch of other stars got hurt and you made the team as a feeling. Or we take your name off these stats, we put everybody's stats up here. Will these stats stand out? 20 and 11?

Yeah.

20 and 11 per game?

They stand out, but I don't think they.

Oh, Chet. All of them the same thing. What are you talking about?

Chet was a star when he was making all-star games.

What are you talking about? He averaged 17 in what we call it. When? When? When was he all-star? Every year he averaged.

Every year he was an all-star.

Averaging 18, 17. But was he an.

All-star because he was an all-star?

Yeah, he was an all-star. Or was he an all-star because he was on the Thunder? He was an all-star because he was the main player on the team. Chet Holmgren?

No, I'm not talking about Chet. What are you talking about? You talking about Cat?

I said Towns and Chet.

He's talking about Towns. Towns was a bona fide star player in this league.

And Chet. I said Chet, too.

We thought you were talking about Chet.

Chet is one of the same conversations.

What Chet deal was?

240, I believe. 240?

How many years? Five for 240.

That's what I'm saying.

He's in the same stratosphere as what Gil's saying.

But a year ago.

His accuracy came with the team's success as well. If you look at his numbers, if he was the fourth seed or fifth seed, he wouldn't have made all-NBA All-Stars.

Yeah, he wouldn't like everything. Like, when you look at Chet, you're not like, oh, man, you was out here playing like an all-star R & B.

Yeah, those numbers are not.

Now, if you look at him, he didn't negotiate no nothing. Just, hey, that's what you're going to give me? I'm going to take it. I'm taking it.

They also had one.

But did, what did you say?

Won a championship?

Shit, so everybody happy.

Austin Reeves turned down somebody, so he wasn't happy, right? But I don't know if he was offended, though.

Austin Reeves is not an all-star, not all-NBA.

How do you know that?

If you turned it down, you was offended.

No, I'm getting, this is what I average. They offered me $ 90 million. This is what I'm averaging.

I'm going to bet on myself and go into the summer, and go into the summer, hopefully I have a decent year, but I know I can at least make that up. because I got San Antonio that want me, I can make at least 100, 120.

Easy. Like, he was going to make that no matter what, so you might as well just go play it out.

Ain't no wrong with being offended, man.

Take the... Like, don't be offended enough to, like.

Take that in a good stride, though.

I'm going to be offended with that shit in my... I'm going to be offended after I sign it.

You know what, sir?

I ain't like this, but look. I ain't like none of this. Give me that new phantom over there with the green top.

Like, crazy.

Let's push this forward because I love what you're saying. So, Durant skipped all team-related activities this offseason. Skipped media day. Missed the first week of training camp.

Business.

Taking the negotiations to the final hour. So, according to a report from the athletic Sam Amick, Pistons owner Tom Gores.

Had to step in yesterday.

Promised during in his family he would help provide a more positive Pistons experience. This kind of correlates to something you've been saying, that the owner got to step in. Tom Gore is known to turn up heavy at Noble in Malibu.

Mr.

B used to tell us, you know, understands what a young black man needs in his day and age to feel appreciated. But do you think there'll be any intention? Now, I've signed this deal 200 mil. Is there going to be a lingering bitterness that I passed up or gave up on 87 million? They claim to have signed and trade offers. Claim to have teams that wanted to give them the max. Those claims are irrelevant now. Who knows if they're true? We went all summer. You go all summer, right?

You have a number in mind. They have a number.

But, you know, if you're a smart person, you have a bottom line number. And I think his bottom line number was probably the $ 200 million, right? Because you go from $ 190 to $ 200 million. And I'm pretty sure we're going to hold out and see if we can.

Get to $ 210, right?

And If the owner has to step in, that means you're messing with his business and his business is the Pistons. So yes, I gave Trajan a job to do. I want to be under a certain number. But if we can't get there, I'm going to step in. Hey, Dern, I want you to be here. We want you to be here. We're going to get it done. Like, you know what I mean? And that's why I say, have that talk with the owner because the general managers and the presidents, they're just going.

By sheets, man.

They're told, hey, we got to get under this cap. And all those guys are doing just sitting there looking, just cutting costs.

That's all they're doing.

Like the feelings is out of it. So you have to understand that, too. Like, yeah, you you're you're the loyal one in all situations. The player is the loyal one in negotiating. Business is what they're talking about first. So when you have it, when you have the power, use it to your benefit because they're going to use it to theirs.

But would you have that mentality as a 22-year-old? I think that's what kind of, not lost in the situation. Dylan Durant's 22.

He's young.

It's tough to do that. It's easy when you're older in retrospect to see. At the moment, you're like, yo, what the fuck?

And that's why I always say, hey, take this money. Don't do young shit.

But could that, the gyms could be emotional too, though. Like, to put that clause in there, that was an emotional... See, bro, stop with that. That was emotional. Stop with the clause. That was emotional, though. If I got 3% body fat, you know that.

You see me all... Then you have to... Why would you put that in there?

That means you have to be a stupid motherfucker if that is... Yeah.

You don't think that's petty?

How stupid you have to be if that is why you won't take a deal? That has to be the dumbest reason not to.

Take a deal, right?

You act like GMs don't have feelings, too, though.

For sure. That's what he's saying.

Me acting like they can't feel a way.

We all know how business works, right? You come in with a high number, they come in with a low number. It's negotiation. Business-wise, they're going to try to get you for as cheap as they can get you.

It's okay to take offense. 200 million, weight clause.

Oh, no. 200 million, no weight clause. Yeah. Is there a way to do that, though?

There's a way to be respectful.

Like, look, we ain't got the 287 for you.

We love you. We want you to be here. I can do this 200. We want to build a strong foundation here with you.

As opposed to saying, we think you're going to.

Be a fat boy and we want to get this money back. Well, no. We think this bread is going to go to your head.

I'm pretty sure if you look through a lot of Trajan's deals, I'm pretty sure a lot of those deals have white clauses in them. It's just something he's probably going to do.

Again, I'm with you saying there is a way to do it.

It is a way.

Let's go, if you're going to buy a house online, you see in the area it's 2-5, and you know that they probably want like 2-3 for it or something like that. You come in at 1-9, they're like, yeah, what the fuck? I'm a little disrespectful. Now, if you cut out the pettiness and the BS, you at least come in with some respect for like two one right i know you're gonna start low but you want to come in with something respectful you don't want to come at one eight one nine they were like what the fuck i'm not taking you serious let me get the fuck up out of here of course they're gonna try to go no we want three but you want to come in through the door with something you know respectful and for him 170 was probably disrespectful.

So Gil left.

For all those who don't know, Gil actually has a weight clause in his contract, so Gil's going to go with him.

He'll be back.

But, yeah, 170 initial offer. But it started right after the postseason. So you got Trajan Langdon. I think he's been obviously candid in his communication with the media. But, yeah, his poor playoff performance is going to play.

A role in the world.

You've got to expect that, right? You don't got to tell the media that, though. I'm just saying, like, let's do this behind closed doors. We don't need to play this out publicly because even the weight clause getting leaked, I don't think that's coming.

From the Pistons. Uh-oh.

Okay.

Okay.

You already in hot water. What?

Are you offended?

Hell yeah, nigga.

You offended? What did you just throw at him?

You threw $ 100 at me to make up a hole or something?

Mm-hmm. Is that $ 100 or a dollar? It's $ 100.

You're going to take it.

You're going to take it, right?

Just proved it in real time.

Who had $ 100 on this stuff?

Just proved it in real time.

Being offended don't mean shit.

You're going to take the money.

Every time. You took the money, but were you happy about You still gonna pick it up That's all I'm saying listen.

Listen, when business is being taught, everybody has their own ways of being strategic, right?

But I do know this.

Some people get jobs on being tactical, right? And usually that's a GM and all that stuff. So that's why I say when you talk to the owner, right, they have a different mindset. They're not as cutthroat as you would think. They hire somebody that's cutthroat.

That takes feelings. If I'm trying to get you to 190, to be honest, I'm going to try.

To piss you the fuck off. Just business.

You're worth 287, and I'm told to get to this number, I got to piss you off.

As a GM or president of basketball, as an owner, owners want to be liked, I would imagine. They want to be liked by the players. They want to be able to own the locker room as an owner.

As an owner.

I might be the one that's behind the scenes doing all the fuck shit, but when you see.

Me, I want you to dab me up.

I want to be your buddy. Yeah, it depends if you are one of those owners that actually be in the locker rooms and want to be that. I mean, there's owners that you ain't never seen them before. So it all depends on what type of owner you are. I think Gorse, I mean, at least from what Mr. B's talked about him, he speaks very highly of him.

He's one that likes to turn up, right? He's having parties in the offseason that the crew is coming through. Yeah, he's probably... He's a player's guy. I would have been really surprised if... I would have been surprised on either way if.

He signed that $ 9 million and if he didn't sign the deal, there was not going to be an extended couple more days. Like me, young me, oh, I'm calling you a bluff every time.

So how you going to tell him not to call his bluff? You going to call it?

I was the number one option. I can call your bluff.

Nah. Huh?

Nah. Huh? Yeah.

Number two can't call your bluff?

No, no, no.

No, no, no, no. Nah, nah.

It depends. It depends on who you are? Yeah.

Again, it depends on who else is willing to offer it. Now, again, if somebody else is about to throw $ 200 in your face, you don't care about Gil's $ 100. You know what I'm saying? You don't want to take offense to that $ 100. Somebody throws $ 500 in your face, get the fuck out of here.

Taking the money out.

No, no, it depends.

If a nigga on the street, I don't know, throw some money at me, it's different. You throw some money at me, I know you.

I've been to strip clubs. I throw money all the time. I've never seen someone say, you know what? I got rent tomorrow, but I'm offended.

They're going to be on the floor like.

If the.

Strippers get mad, how you throw the money at them?

But they still pick it up. Can't throw it in there.

Just buy a shirt.

You know what's so funny? No bullshit.

If you don't have superpowers, like if you're not the guy and you're in your real form, when you go into the summer, every decision you make has to be tactical.

For sure.

So I remember, so, you know, I'm injured. I played two games. We're going, I'm going up for negotiations, right? Haven't played in two years. I opted out anyway, right? Because I know what the doctor's telling me. So I know what the doctor's telling them.

Right. So I'm like, oh, I mean, if I don't get back the form.

Right.

So I might as well. So I might as well. I might as well just net as much money as possible because I don't know if I'm going to continue my career. Right. So July 1st, you know, free agency.

You came to two games and.

It came in the playoffs. July 1st, I set my shoe, my shoe, not released, but a marketing contract. tour in China July 1st. So I'm flying out July 1st. As phone calls happen, you are in the air.

So what happens is they had to talk to me at midnight because I leave in the morning. My first offer, they offered me and he was like, yeah, you know what you did? Three-time All-Star, three-time All-NBA. You the city, you the franchise.

You know, $ 85 million. Six-year, $ 85 million. You know my max is 127. Yeah, I remember that. Six year, 85 million. Like, you know what I mean? I looked at the money. Damn, that's a lot. I mean, this is nice. You know what I mean? Like, this is very nice.

I said, but unfortunately, Baron Davis opted out of Golden State and they offered me the max.

Of Five-year one-on-one. So, unfortunately, I'm going to have to leave. I got to pack. But I'll talk to you guys a little bit later. I get back on the 11th. If I get back on the 11th, I get back on the 11th, and I'll let you guys know. So they went to find out if Baron Davis actually opted out. They opted out, and then there's our shit. When I woke up in the morning, the owner called me and said, I heard you're gone. Very good move. He said, very good move. The money's yours, whatever it is. I was in the airport. The money is yours.

Don't even worry about it. I'm even upset that they even tried to play that game with you. So the money is yours. Whatever that number is, you figure out how you want to spend it. But I was going to hold their money up for 11 fucking days.

They couldn't have hopped on the satellite phone in China? I wasn't going... No, but what I'm saying... You wait until he landed? You better remember, I'm going to... He's going to air for about 16 hours. The plan is, we're so... We're time difference. So whatever they send to me is going to take... So I'm a day... But you're a day ahead.

So now I'm messing up... I'm messing up the summer. And the flight time and the time difference. So it's about two days. Yeah, so I'm messing up the summer. That means Antoine got to wait. Everybody got to wait. Okay. They get desperate. Then, like, all these free agents are signing in.

Everything happens in the first couple hours. They're like, shit, we got to get Gil before we can do all this other shit.

That was the good old days. That's when dudes were still getting their bag. Not getting finessed by franchises. No better time.

Less extensions happened, so free agency was more.

But big bags were getting got.

Big bags were getting got.

Oh, you're talking about during that first 24-hour.

They had to spend their money. They couldn't order no more.

Exactly, right.

But so shout out to Jalen Dern. Shout out to the Pistons getting that deal done. Look forward to seeing Jalen Dern and the Pistons this season.

I bought my jersey too.

In a much tougher Eastern Conference. Hope you bought it on Amazon. What do you have?

Another rich zero, man. What do you have in that number? Hey, low key.

Zero. I'm just going to put it out there because I'm for sure 100% correct. There's a lot of them.

The number zero has to be the richest number in basketball history.

Besides 23?

That's just Jordan and Brian.

That's enough. That's big bags.

Yeah, that's enough.

Remember Jordan? That wasn't even a pippin' made more than him in his NBA career.

What about number.

One?

Number one? Zero's definitely up there.

We're talking about he's on a rookie deal still.

A lot of people with number one.

Man, them zero weeks. Game, me, Russ, Tatum, Durin, Kevin Love.

Man, there's a lot of it.

Bro, we in the billion. You are. Shout out to the number zero. Zero to heroes. You....

I wore that because of you, motherfucker.

I don't give a fuck why you wore it.

I know why you wore it. I'm just saying.

We add that to it.

We add that to it.

We add that to it. Ron Jordan, A.D.

Huh?

Draymond Green. War number 23. Oh, yeah, 23. The chat is clapping back. I mean....

I mean, those are some good ones.

Well, you got Hallie Dame.

Hallie, yeah, Hallie, yeah. We making money out here. You put the zero on, you're getting paid. You put the 23 on, legacy gone. That's only one person is supposed to wear that now, too. You wear 23? That is interesting. Hey, you know what? There's some sorry-ass 23s. But zero feels like a collection. number. Yeah.

Like you wear zero, it ain't one person that defines that zero. Obviously, you put 23 on. You and the shadow of MJ the wrestler. That's where zero wasn't good enough. That number defined us.

No, no, no.

We was talked about. That's a Brunson number. Zero is a Brunson number. How they talk about Brunton, he's a zero.

He's a number one.

He's a number zero. He's a zero to hero.

But it's 23, what defined numbers are?

23, Kobe.

Kobe is more known for it. I don't know why I recognize eight more than I do 24.

24 is 24.

Eight to me, I'm 24. I mean, I'm eight. I'm eight.

I'm eight all day. And then probably Kirby with the 30. Yeah, 30, yeah.

I don't really see 30s like that.

30s feel like that.

I'm just saying like when you think about 30s, everybody else is like.

They call them 30s.

You don't think 13? Who's that, Paul and James?

Wilt.

Wilt was number 13? I said one. I'm telling you, one is a.

One is everybody.

I'm talking about when you just think about that number for that person.

I would say T-Mac.

When you think Jordan. I mean, when you think 23.

I would say T-Mac.

You always think Jordan.

Oh, three.

Three. Three is a number.

A-I. A lot of threes out there. I think 11 was just.

I think three is A-I. I think three is A-I for sure.

11 was Isaiah Thomas. That's the first person I think of.

I mean, there's a lot of threes out there. You got CP out there, D-Wade.

Barkley.

I think it's Shaq.

Giannis. But let's keep this thing moving. NBA preseason tips off this weekend.

This weekend? It does. This Saturday, Gil. Where you been at? Preseason.

We here.

The NBA preseason tips off this week featuring a pair of superstar faces in some new places as Kawhi's Raptors face off against Giannis' Heat in Quebec City Saturday. Kawhi unlikely to play, but Giannis' status still uncertain. So Kawhi returned to the North after his escape from L.A. like Snake Plissken for his second stint as a Raptor. The last time the Claw was in the six in 2019, he led the franchise to their first and only chip.

And after a year of turmoil and controversy, Surrounding the NBA's investigation of him and the Clippers for cap circumvention and subsequent punishment, Kawhi gets a fresh start with the stability of a two-year extension. So during Raptors media day, Kawhi reflected on the last year.

How have you changed in.

The last year? What have you learned about yourself in the last year or so that got you to this point?

You know, every year is a learning lesson. You know, obviously the I mean, you talking about basketball or the last year? You know, we weren't too competitive last year, but, you know, I just I guess last year me learning that is I need pressure or I need like a winning situation. I want to win. I want to try and win, you know, but I'm not, you know, forcing or like pushing for that, whatever. You know, Bobby and Darko C's, but they're competitive and, you know, I mean, that's what I learned from the basketball aspect. It's just, I like to be in a winning environment.

It's not the Kawhi cheesing. Yeah, man. Really good. A bunch of nothing. A whole bunch of nothing. Had to pay $ 700K to get $ 100 million. A whole bunch of nothing. But I understood what he was saying. He looked happy. He was glowing. Was he happy?

Speaking?

Actively happy?

He's happy. Yeah, yeah.

He laid the.

Blueprint, though. He has a weird NBA career. First ballot Hall of Famer that only played half his career, which makes you question how good would he have been, right? Two-time defensive player of the year.

And I guess because he is so quiet that he doesn't really get any type of backlash for much of anything. Like, you kind of side with him on most things, even with the thigh thing. It was weird, even though for a younger player, we sided with him over Pop, which was weird.

Yeah. You know, the media did like, yeah, you know, if he got an outside doctor, outside doctor.

Like, it was a weird thing. And then when he plays the game, I don't personally like the look of it.

It doesn't look as fluid.

It doesn't look fluid.

Especially early on. It became more fluid. Early on, you're like, how the hell is he getting buckets?

How is he getting buckets?

It's a robotic, stiff, football-style movement.

And then I was watching. It was opening night.

I think this was 2020. It was the 2020 season. And went to the opening game. It was Clippers' home game, right? They started off booing them, right? Lakers went up real fast.

It was an open night. When we played them, they had home court that game.

Yeah, yeah, they had home court, yeah. 2019 opener. Yeah, so I'm watching them work out. And I was like, God damn, he's cash money. Like, I'm just looking at him as a shooter. He's a pure, just straight, just get to the spot. He's just a guy that gets it done. And whatever he does... on that court, it's in winning. Like, you know, there's just some guys who just actually know how to win. They do that one thing that you need, that one steal, that one block, like jumping out of bounds, like the charge. Like, he does all of the things that you need to be a winner. And it's, like, I understand what he's saying about he needs to be in winning situations.

So, Dan, you won a.

Chip with Kawhi with Spurs. Won a chip with Kawhi with the Raptors. What is the fun guy really like behind the scenes?

I mean, just as you see, he's a very literal guy. He's like, you know, when they ask him, where do you go from here? Are you down on O2? He's like, back to Toronto.

I'm just kidding.

They're like, what did you learn about yourself? You mean basketball? You got to actually ask the specific question. But he seems happy. He looks happy. He's in a good space. He was All-NBA last year, played a lot of games. Again, like Gil said, he had one of the craziest– growth spurts that i've ever seen like nobody could predict that coming from him he came in as a defensive guy like he'll be the next bruce bowen he had wide shoulders long arms big hands like oh he could be a defensive and then turn into a bucket like we've never seen before and we don't know how he gets it done but he was getting it done on both ends of the floor um but yeah he's just a simple character man and right now it seems like he's

enjoying life you know his son was born there He gets to go back. His kid's older. He's more mature now. He's coming toward the end of his career. He has a good group around him. I'm sure he's happy to be finally done. You see him doing Chinese commercials and stuff like he's doing tours. He's really stepping out of his shell a little bit.

Active on social media now?

Yeah, he's active. He's a hooper, man. At the end of the day, that's just who he is. That's what he's all about. Being competitive and hooping. Now he's trying to do other things, but He's a very simple guy and very literal.

Wow.

But when it comes back to that, you said people were siding with him over Pop. I think it was more the league shifting because, you know, Pop is used to doing things a certain way. And it started to become a player's league and players starting to get the power. It's like the way he handled it media-wise, I don't think people agreed with how Pop handled it. Or not just Pop, but the collective of the other guys speaking.

Because Tony.

Ed said some things in the media as well. And then Pop said something like, you got to talk to Kawhi's people. Yeah. And I think his people didn't take light of that. And also people like, yo, he's a young kid.

Mm-hmm.

You know. But, yeah, he had some injuries. That was strange. It was weird. He's bounced back from them. But, like you said, he needs to be in an environment where he needs pressure to, like, to rise to the occasion. I think when he had his back against the wall, he shows who he is.

Mm-hmm.

He almost took the Warriors out before he got hurt, that KD thing.

Oh, yeah, we was there. Yeah, they was up by 2. We was on our way.

Until he got hurt.

Was you there, Nick?

Nah, they was talking about it. KD and them was talking about it.

They was....

The year before I got there. The year when.

2017.

Zaza ankle.

Zaza put his foot under... Yeah.

Kawhi just... This was right the year before he had the injury. A lot of asterisks. This was Western Conference Finals.

Yeah.

Balling. Game one. Game one by 20 or 30.

We was up 20 at half. And we was playing well, too.

Yeah.

Because there was moments where, you know, him and LaMarcus, it wasn't as smooth.

I'm telling you, yeah.

Like, Marcus is getting buggers. He's getting buggers. Everybody's clicking. He's fine in a week. We're in a rhythm. I'm looking at KD's face and he's looking like that. Man, I'm telling KD.

I don't know why.

I'm not sure if this is the right decision. You can see it in his fucking face.

For sure.

And we just had D-West the year before too and he had just went over there. And I didn't realize Kawhi was out until they started coming back. And I'm like, where the fuck is this guy at? Is he going to come back? And he just never came back. I think it ended up being a sweep because he didn't play the rest of the series after that.

They came back that game.

If we win game one on the road in Golden State, I'm not saying we won the series, but It changes a lot.

The way it looked, too, though.

And again, it would have hit them in a different play.

Yeah, I was really confused on what they were talking about. Because all I remember is Muffins got swept. But it was different.

No, he was locking shit up.

Kawhi.

No, no, no. He was balling that. Brother, I get that.

But that's saying, if Kawhi, after that Toronto run, and he stayed healthy, you could arguably put Kawhi at number two.

One of the top five players, like two-way players.

Number two.

In his position.

Over.

If he stayed healthy.

Behind KD?

No.

Who's there?

I mean, I'll say he's top five.

LeBron didn't have no position.

He just picked a position that kind of worked which all-star he wanted to play with.

So if he's looking at a list, I want him as a starter. So I'm going to move to the two. Like, wait, what? That's the shit that LeBron was doing. Yes. Yes.

So you're saying Kawhi's a small forward, you'd put him at number.

I said you could've argued it if he would've stayed healthy.

Like above Bird type things, is that what you're saying?

No, above KD. So it's Bird over KD?

Him and KD.

If he would've stayed healthy and had like a... What people thought after that Toronto run, if the Clippers would've won the chip, all that.

Well, yeah, if he stayed healthy.

That's.

What I'm saying.

Well, I mean.

KD had a longevity, but obviously longer.

You're talking about scoring titles.

When they were in that same frame, one was in scoring titles and MVPs.

KD has an MVP. Yeah, I'm diluting my game to it.

Why would I have to have won an MVP and a scoring title?

But the way it came, it took over with Toronto. And if he would have took over with Clippers that never won, shit like that.

I'm saying.

You know what's so funny? If you actually watch Toronto those two, three years... When LeBron left, they thought they were going to be the champions. They thought it was going to be the championship. If you ask anybody in Toronto, when LeBron left with DeRozan, they thought he was going to win. When they got Kawhi, they were like.

I mean, we should still get there.

We should still get there.

No, they thought they had a better chance before we got there. And, like, when Bron left, they thought for sure. Let me say, they thought they had a better chance because he was the reason why they couldn't get.

Every time. Yeah, they thought they could beat. Because there was one in the East one of those years. So, LeBron was stopping them. LeBronto.

But I think what that happened, LeBron going to the Lakers the same year, I think, Kawhi went to the Rams.

That's what I'm saying. So, Toronto was like.

But how he did it, though.

That season, though.

He went through a Philly that had Joel Embiid. Ben Simmons, Jimmy Butler at the third option.

Milwaukee was still Milwaukee.

Yeah, Milwaukee. But Toronto thought they were the shit.

He went through Jimmy Butler.

And when they got Kawhi, it was like, okay, weekend. He went through Jimmy Butler. I think Kawhi has the highest win percentage. Jimmy Butler was in third option.

Kawhi has the highest win percentage NBA history minimum for him in games played, I believe.

I was just, Kawhi was just.

Who else they beat?

So, like, he brings, like, his.

It was Miami or Atlanta in the first round.

Yeah. His playoff run.

Milwaukee and then Golden State.

His playoff performance was unreal. Like, he was on. He was just on.

Mm-hmm.

He was on. Like, he made it happen.

But, I mean, you guys going to that team was just, you got smart players going to a team that had smart players.

Yeah.

Remember, Gasol's there, Lowry's there.

We ended up trading for Mark later in the season.

Yeah, later in the season.

I mean, you got guys that actually understood the game of basketball, so you put a great formula together.

But the look of it still, too, though.

But I think they were making that decision regardless of LeBron left or not.

Yeah.

I think they made a decision because of LeBron, possibly.

Trying to get over the hump.

Yeah.

Now, if LeBron stays....

I still think it's a pretty good matchup.

I think it's a good matchup.

If LeBron's... I think the Raptors might have got a game out of it.

Kawhi, if you're locking shit up, I'm not going to lie.

If... I mean, if KD and them didn't get hurt, it's a different story. We don't deal in hypothetical stories. It's a different story. Stretch.

I'm just kidding. It was healthy for tons of years.

4-2?

4-1?

Say again? It was 4-1 in the finals?

4-2. 4-2? Yeah.

We tricked off the one at home. Should have been 4-1. We lost damn near all the home games. We won on the road. Yeah, man. Easy. If Bron even stayed, I think it's still a good matchup because Kawhi matched up well with Bron.

Yeah, he did.

Yeah, I remember like that when he won MVP of the finals.

Yeah, Bron averaged about 28. 50% from Toronto.

That was my best fucking year.

That was a young quad.

My year. I know, I know.

My year was the youngest LeBron went through Toronto.

Everybody.

That was his best year I feel like ever. When we swept him. When he went through everybody with Dwayne got hurt that year.

He didn't play. He had Ideal Thomas didn't play. He had Jordan Crawford.

Really, it was a.

Crazy team, and he gained winners off backboards, floaters.

And shit.

It was crazy.

That's when we got to the finals with Cleveland?

Yeah.

That year before he went to the Lakers. That's why he went to the Lakers. We swept him, but that year was crazy.

Nah, I remember I even, I think I even, not tweeted, but I remember posting when he was in the, right before when he got to the championship, and Kyrie and Love went down after, like, game one or something like that, and I said, hey, I hope y'all.

Enjoyed this LeBron. Because you would never see it again. Now he's forced to play.

This game 100% or they're going to lose.

So he's going to have some, I said, no one can stop him.

He stopped himself because, you know, he's, you know, trying to get everybody involved. This is going to be the selfish... The most selfish you can see because he has to do everything.

He had 45 on his first game.

He only lost because of the timeouts.

50-point triple-double or some.

Shit like that. Hey, he was.

Like 58-8 or something like that.

And listen, we played against him three years in a row, watching film, watching him in real time, right, from the first year to.

When I was hurt and watching him on that last one. I mean, we used to argue. It was like, What's going to be his worst year? We put him at 17-6-6 when he retires. That's where we had him. Who, Bron? It might be somewhere in there.

And we didn't even think he was going to last this long, but I mean. Yeah, you're 24. He was like, when you're watching him, when he turns it on, there was nothing.

We couldn't stop that, dude. We tried everything. We tried everything, like.

That was cold.

He had me on the island. He already got going. I had about 30 in the final. He blew by me and dunked on JaVale so cold.

All I heard was Draymond, seal him right! Seal him right!

That motherfucker flew.

I sent him.

I sent his ass right.

Draymond and JaVale was down there.

Oh, my God.

That shit was nasty. I remember that shit was nasty.

Oh, boy.

The only way he lost.

Was that day.

Make him shoot a jump shot. I hope he misses.

There's been a few people in history that were unstoppable.

You needed rules. I know the Jordans era. I wasn't there in real time. I was there for Kobe. Allen Iverson. Tracy McGrady. Shaquille O'Neal.

And LeBron.

And then there was moments with Carmelo where if they were going for 50 that night, there was no person on the court that was stopping them.

They were so.

Advanced and they had so much skill that when you're talking about All five have to stop you.

All five had to be in line to stop you.

Right.

I'm like cold averaging 35 with the.

Team he had is shitly impossible. You had no one to spread the court. There was no other shooter on the team for us to even guard. We are literally looking at you. 35.

Allen Iverson.

There's nobody on the team that is making them play. We know where you're going. You're going to go. You're going to zip or do. We couldn't stop you. Right, Shaq?

Obviously, they had to put a zone in. So there's been guys where it's like, yo, if only rules stop you.

It was no human.

Do you think James is like one of the most annoying ones that you probably couldn't stop?

James Harden?

Yeah.

Yeah. Like, most annoying ones that.

I don't think he had a chance to, like, get.

Yeah, like.

James and his prime.

That foul shit.

I can tell you this. James did himself a disservice.

Yeah.

Because James had an unguardable move with unguardable ways of scoring.

He stopped.

He stopped himself because he dribbled it.

Yeah.

Right? Like, if James.

was backdooring or they had a simple offense for when he wanted to score like backdoor slashes, posting up, you know, like little things like that, little flares.

He would average 40.

He did it earlier in his career. Yeah, he would average 40.

He was also.

Jumping like 40 inches of air when he was younger. He ain't dunking people no more. That's why I think he stopped dunking.

Dunking.

He was going back door and dunking people.

He stopped dunking.

I mean, he was just like, that ability, it was just crazy. Kevin Durant just, like, he didn't shoot. He didn't shoot enough. He needed to have, yeah. Like, if he was, like, if he had the mindset.

He didn't care. He was, like, he had to be efficient. He was inefficient.

Yeah, I mean, other than that, I mean, Tim, I mean, we couldn't stop Tim, but Tim is going to go 20 to 25.

That's it. That's all I need to do. That's it. Let's bring it back to Kawhi quickly.

Time with the Clippers, marred by injuries, postseason failures, but after appearing in just 37 games two seasons ago, played 65 games last season, averaging a career-high 28 points, and is in the midst of a 56-game, 20-point scoring streak, longest for a player age 30 or older in league history. So now seven-time All-NBA selection, two-time Defensive Player of the Year, back playing in a city where he's beloved and will inevitably get a statue.

So, Danny, you played with Kawhi, with the Raptors.

How much will Kawhi benefit from this change of scenery this season, going from the Clippers back to the Sixers?

Oh, a lot.

Run with his woes.

A ton, because now he's surrounded by talent where he doesn't have to carry as much of the offensive load. You know, he had James with him most of the year last year. That helped, but when James was gone, it was basically just him I mean, he has career high in scoring, but even career nights, he had a 55-point game or a 50-point game for the first time.

Most guys don't do it in their 30s. And the fact that he's older now and he has defensive threats around him with Scottie, RJ, like bigger bodies with some size and length that could make the game easier defensively and offensively, it's going to change the game for him a ton where he's not going to have to be the main focus and he can just score in spurts when he needs to. And it'll keep his body fresh and They really just need him for the playoffs, right?

And that's kind of what we did in 2019. Like, we had him during the regular season. He sat quite a good amount. You know, he sat some back-to-backs. Lowe managed to have the first year that Lowe's management really started. And, you know, even those games that he sat, we played well as a group, but they just needed a superstar to play us. When the game slowed down, who can we get a ball to to make a play? Not only score, but make a play and get somebody else open and get us a good look.

Kawhi Hart, I think, both set Clippers' franchise record for most points in the game last season within like a month of each other.

Both dropped 55 pieces. Kawhi did it against the Pistons.

But Swaggy Inga, when you look at this Raptors squad, fifth in the East last season. Now you have Kawhi to pair with Scottie Barnes, R.J.

Barrett. You got Emmanuel Quigley.

You got an intriguing crew there. Just get to the playoffs. That's all Kawhi pretty much want. I think they're going to be in the same spot fifth, sixth, around that range.

But you just don't want to see Kawhi in the playoffs, I feel like. And, cause he changes, he changed the game.

He's a winner, you know, he do certain things that affect winning and he can score that ball and just seeing the star out there, you know, that adds that aura to it for sure. You gotta get Kawhi credit off the court, too. Like, his uncle is his agent that's doing all these deals?

Well, he's been under the table and all this. Masterclassing and finessing bags. $ 700, 000 fine to get another.

$ 120 million?

It's like you being his uncle. He's moved away from that. He's got a different.

Oh, that's what he's saying Hall of Fame finesse Hall of Fame finesse, I'm sure.

I'll go dance would be somewhere lurking.

I was the next topic man. I'm gonna give a fuck about what Toronto gonna do. All right, okay I'm happy for Kawhi. I'm not watching the Toronto game last year like I didn't a year before that I've never watched a damn Toronto game.

Vince Carter was the only reason him and Damon Stoudemire.

That's the only reason we ever watched Toronto. If you, if you're outside, they, listen, they didn't hold another fight.

But against Giannis, when you see Toronto, you're not going to play preseason.

When Kawhi played, you're like, yeah.

That's a whole other country.

And you used to watch Dick play.

That's a whole other country.

You used to watch Dick play.

Gil loves Dick.

He loves Dick. Gil loves Dick.

We do not care about him.

Grady Dick. Yeah, you love watching Grady Dick.

We do not care about him.

You saw Dick at Summer League, and I remember you talking to Dick and his family.

I'm sorry.

All foreigners are against Dick.

USA right now.

Certain matches you're going to watch.

So, I'm not watching the goddamn... I'm not watching that shit.

Sir, make your side for the motherfuckers to watch.

They got to have beef.

With somebody to watch. I can tell you, I don't even know their time zone. I can give a fuck.

Canadian. I don't care.

So, you're not going to see when they match up with Philly. Toronto versus Philly? Why do I care?

Only time I got to watch is when they play the Lakers.

I'm forced to watch that game. You watched that game last season, Gil. Did you not?

Huh?

You watched that game last season?

Yeah.

When LeBron's scoring streak ended? Yes.

You watched Toronto versus the Lakers?

Yeah.

Because his streak was going.

No, his streak was going. Because I was trying to, hey, miss it, miss it, miss it, so.

You can go to overtime.

Kawhi played Giannis. Raptors are a sneaky team in the East. I like what they got going out there. Kawhi is motivated out here, smiling. It feels like it's a different Kawhi. The Clippers' curse lifted back in the sixth. But let's keep it moving, Gil. Let's keep it moving. Giannis and the Heat, is that a team you'll watch?

Yeah. Oh, okay.

Giannis Heat looking to do some big things as well this season. Two-time MVP embracing Heat culture. Giannis had high praise for the team earlier this week when asked about the standard he wants to set for himself and the team in South Beach.

No, I've never been a part of something like this.

Obviously, Milwaukee Bucks organization had a great history, great.

Players played before me.

But here it's a whole different story. We've won a lot of championships. All-time great players from D-Wayne, LeBron, Chris Bosh, Alonzo Mourning, Shaikh, you can go down the line. I just want to leave my mark. I just want to leave my mark. I want to know when this chapter is over. I want to be here for a year or two.

Or whatever it's going to be.

I want to leave my mark.

I want to know that I have a.

Great relationship with my coach, my teammates, with the fans.

That's all. He sound Cuban already. He ain't been to South Beach that long already sound Cuban.

That's crazy.

Greco-Nigerian Cuban. Greco-Nigerian Cuban. He's already embracing the culture over there. Okay. Interesting.

When you take Giannis out of Milwaukee, you put him into South Beach, that accent actually, it flows and fits. But for the hearing impaired, obviously the sound was a little rough on that. When Giannis said, I want to leave my mark. I want to know when this chapter is over, if I'm only here for a year or two or whatever. I want to leave my mark. No, those are interesting comments coming from the Greek freak. Giannis eligible to sign an extension with the Heat on January 6th. Gil, interesting day in American history.

Your birthday. My birthday, baby. What are you doing? Giannis will be able to storm the Heat capital. He's going to sign the Heat capital. I don't know he not. Four years, 275, or three years, 214. Yeah, so he can either.

Get the four-year 275 if he opts out, He can get the three-year 214 if he opts in.

The 214 three-year deal would actually be more money for him. Wait a second. Wait a second.

So four years, 275 if he opts out, or if he opts in with the final year of his deal and takes the three for 214, that'll actually be a little bit more money.

Ah, he's opting out. Thank you. I told you. It'll be the same situation. It ain't the same situation.

No, it ain't.

What the fuck are y'all talking about? Don't be no dumb-dumb.

Man, you'll get some more back. There's a three-year deal for 314.

$ 214, 000.

$ 214, 000.

And then there's another deal for how much?

Four-year $ 275, 000.

Four-year $ 275, 000. That one that goes to $ 275, 000, that's more than $ 214, 000.

All that per-year shit goes out the window. $ 275, 000 is guaranteed in my pocket. You know what I mean?

Guaranteed.

Four years, though.

Yeah.

Let's try this again. Let me try this again. Let me try this again. So I already get this year, correct?

Mm-hmm. So one is technically this year plus three. No. No, it's next year plus three. Next year plus three. Which equals four. And the other one is just three. The one from next year, if he opts out, is four. Four.

So there's two four-year options on the table for him. He can opt in to the one next summer for $ 63 million that he's already going to get, plus $ 214 on top of that, which equals $ 277.

Yeah.

Or he can take four for $ 275.

If he opts out.

If he opts out. So what is it? What is it?

Let me do it again.

Yeah. Four for $ 277, 000.

So Giannis, player option next summer, 2027. Option is for $ 62.

8 million. So he can opt in. So if he opts in.

Opts into that and gets three more years on top of that. Three more years on top of that.

For 214.

For 214.

That'll be $ 277, 000. Okay. Or he can opt out and sign a four-year deal for $ 275, 000. So if he opts out. Then he has a four-year deal, 275.

So it would be five years, basically.

That's what he made it sound like.

Both of them are four. So he's just not getting a 66. He's not getting a 63.

So he's opting out of the 63.

If he opts out of the 63, he can sign a 4 for 75. If he opts into the 63, that year counts in addition to a 3 for 214. So that would be a 4 for 277 or something around there.

That's what the money would be.

I don't know the specifics of how that works for whatever beyond that.

Yeah, so it's a 2 million.

Yeah.

It's the same.

Yeah I thought I thought it was I thought the extra I thought it was like five years I thought it was.

One one's getting the extra year yeah what I mean he's gonna get paid man he's 30 how old now 32 33.

Either way 275 277 he's getting it get your bag man but y'all didn't hear.

What this man just said right but that's what rather it's a year or two he.

Hasn't signed his decision yet.

I want to leave my mark I want to know when this chapter's.

Over because you don't know how it's gonna go yet.

A year or two, he out and out. He get in the Airbnb on the beach somewhere right now. He didn't buy a house yet.

I can tell you this. I can tell you this. What?

So if he out there, he can go somewhere else. He can go somewhere.

Else, though. What Miami needs is a spokesperson. The reason that super teams aren't.

In Miami, even though Miami has the city everybody lives in in the summer, All the girls. It's the best place that you will want to be as an athlete. The one thing that they have against them is Pat Riley showed up. And he put that into Fort Knox. They got a program there that makes sure South Beach ain't South Beach.

So they need someone to sell it.

He's the only person in his personality that can call other players and get them to come there. Remember, free agents really don't go there like that. So he's the only.

One that has the personality to get on the phone, hey, man, can you come on down to South Beach and blah, blah, blah. You think that starts a trend, though? We're going to be honest.

Obviously, we talked about Pat Riley missing out because there's been guys who wanted to come. Dane wanted to come. Guys who wanted to come didn't end up coming. But Giannis now, they're recruiting. Does that change the whole narrative and perspective? They didn't want to trade the pieces.

They were being stubborn with who they were willing to give up for some of those guys.

But my point, it wasn't like Dame said, I'm not rocking. I don't want to do that.

No, people got traded there.

We're talking about when you're a free agent and you just go there on your own merit. It's like Miami ain't been the place where everybody wants to go because you hear how hard.

Clay, saw Giannis said, I'll take that risk.

Yeah.

As I said, he's the only one I can call. I see more people that be coming there. Yeah, that's what I'm saying.

You look at this roster and this squad and what they got going on, especially around my garden, I got Bam and Giannis.

I just don't think he wants to count his eggs before they hatch. He's saying a year or two he hasn't signed an extension yet, so he don't want to say that. He's like, if things go to shit early, if it don't work, I think he's going to sign his deal. I think he's going to sign and stay there.

You think Pat Riley like hearing that shit, though? Do Pat Riley like hearing whether it's a year, two?

I'm pretty sure he came here at this point in time.

Listen, I seen Giannis' face in Milwaukee walking through snow and slip.

He was happy. You get to walk home.

You get to walk outside like you're back in your hometown. Barefoot like a motherfucker.

Iguanas, though, dealing with different situations. You got iguanas all out the cribs. Snakes out there.

He's going to have a blast.

He's going to have a house there, bro.

He's going to have a blast.

He ain't want that, though. Think about that. He was safe in Milwaukee. Nothing to do.

Snow.

You stuck in the house. You go to Miami as a foreigner, it's different. That man got He's trying to get nine, ten kids. He good at home. He ain't American. Only Americans are homeless. Only Americans are homeless.

Only Americans are homeless. Overseas people, those are loyal people. We the ones.

You just answered Joker's question yesterday.

That ain't got nothing to do with the sport. That ain't got nothing to do with the sport. That boom is.

Always making us look bad. Overseas is a loyal one. See, he just said that.

You know what his nickname was? Swaggy Mike Lowry Young.

He was trying to be like Mike.

Yeah, he was trying to be like Mike Lowry, man. He thought the city was his.

But when you look at Giannis, a human being, obviously, that came from very, very modest beginnings. Takes a lot of pride in what he does. Takes a lot of pride in the ability to play basketball. How much pressure do you feel like is on Giannis to leave his mark? You talked about all the greats that play with that Heat franchise. Championship throughout their history, but the big names, future Hall of Famers.

I don't want to say super pressure on him, but the organization to put him in a position to win. There's a lot of pressure on Miami to be good now that you got him.

There's pressure on him.

There's pressure on him, but I think it's not directly just on him.

Nah, because he wanted to leave.

Too, right?

You want to be in a winning situation? You got to surround him in a winning situation. You can't look like Milwaukee. You can't have the same record you had last year.

But they tried. You got to give it to Milwaukee. They tried.

People don't want to go to Milwaukee. They tried to get him some players. It just didn't pan out.

They tried. But he wanted to play last season.

You got him Dame.

You got him Towner.

He wanted to play last season. Bucks basically said, no, we're trying to move on.

Giannis has proven that he can win. He's got to have the right pieces around him. Now Miami has to do that for him. They have to find the pieces around him that fit. But there's pressure on him. I don't want to say zero, but there's definitely pressure.

He's got to win. He's got to win. You can't say I'm going to leave my mark.

There's more pressure on him than there is Kawhi. There's more pressure on Kawhi.

No, there's more pressure on Giannis.

Kawhi. They squabbling.

Way more pressure.

The last time they seen Kawhi is he was a champion.

But he's older.

So now, you coming back, we're expecting... Seven years. But we're expecting something. You are Kawhi. You are a hero. Think about how he came. He came as an injured man, hobbling on one leg, won us a championship. Eight years. And then you left. You left on the 100th side. Like, we only see you in good light. For sure. So you coming back, all we know is what you did good here.

He is the only person left from that team that is there.

But Giannis.

Eight years ago. Talked about LeBron leaving championships.

Everybody that get traded, you said they go to Miami, win championships.

That's a superstar. Shaq, Wade, LeBron.

He's going to win.

His whole thing is about winning a championship. You want to leave Milwaukee to go win a championship.

That's why I said zero.

You picked Miami, though. That's why I said zero.

You know why?

You got to win.

The reason I.

Said zero is because the guy who makes the calls up there.

Can't blame Pat Roddy.

The guy who makes the calls up there when he has a certain type of player, he builds a team around that player, and that player win within one or two years.

So there's no pressure on.

Giannis because Pat Roddy is going to give him.

Exactly what he needs.

We hope.

And if he give him what he needs, he got to win.

You ain't got to worry about, we're not going to question Giannis' play. That's not going to happen.

But you still got to win and leave a mark. You say you want to leave a mark.

There's pressure on them.

Okay.

Especially the fact they kept losing first-round eggs.

Yeah. I didn't have Giannis.

Giannis lost. Giannis lost.

That's under another nigga's spell. When I was Pat Riley and I got my slick back hair, right, who do I have? I have Magic. What was he? Number one pick, right?

Mm-hmm.

I had Kareem. Who was he? Number one pick. James Worthy, number one pick. There was no pressure. We win it.

There's no pressure.

And then when I come to Miami, I really have nothing. I draft Dwayne Wade, right? I get Lamar Odom thinking they can work.

Then it's like, you know what? I can make this shit for Shaq. Right? Boom.

And he does something that no GM would do. He went out and got some.

Of the worst personalities in basketball All at the same time, put them all on the same team. When you're talking about party central, Shaq, like this is around a young D-Wade.

He brought Shaq, GP, Antoine Walker, Posey. Like he had the party team.

Was Jason Williams?

Yeah, Jason Williams. They built the strip club. In the, I mean, they built a barbershop in a strip club. That's how much, that's how long with him.

But he knew, I'm going to win a championship because I got Shaq and what's his name?

So it don't even matter. He took that chance.

He's going to take the chance and he's going to put the pieces around Giannis. He has somebody who can dominate And he's going to do it.

I'm just looking at Howard. Kyrie will probably be there.

Like, he's going to do it. He's going to make the pool.

We hope so.

He better.

Again, there's pressure on both parties. But, again, I've seen Giannis Unfold being a one seed, losing to eight seed.

Man.

With Jimmy taking him out a couple times. Then losing to Indiana the year before. Halliburton.

See?

Overtime.

You're talking about the same one team spanking him. Now he's on this team.

He's like, KD, I'm on this side now. Indiana was a different team.

I'm on.

No, no, no, no. Pages twice.

I'm on this team.

And your daddy came in his face.

Like, what did he do?

I'm on this team.

Did he clap or wave?

They said Halliburton's daddies couldn't come to the games for running the alley-op.

Man, banned him.

I'm on the team.

You got a nigga's daddy banned because he's in your face.

Did my bald head give me away?

I'm on the team. Boom. That makes it happen.

Mike.

I ain't got no pressure. I know pops up there. I know Mickey. I know they're going to do their research. They're no different than San Antonio. They finding their players. They finding their players. They know what they're driving.

Can I let my daddy go to the Miami game?

Huh?

When they play in Miami, can his daddy come?

Halliburton's dad, I believe, can come to the games now. They said his daddy can't come to the games now.

You're going to tell my daddy?

I'm the franchise player. My daddy coming in the game, he's going to sit where he's sat.

I feel like Giannis' pressure more self-inflicted on himself and where he wants to be, what he wants to prove. Situation in Milwaukee obviously was nasty. Them purposely sidelining him like my pop said when he was on the couch. he'd be out there working out before the games, putting on freakish dunk displays, letting everybody know he's still him and not have to go sit and watch this franchise that you basically built. You're the greatest player of all time for deliberately tank. That's just not something he's in line with. So I think for him, his mentality is I got to come in this season. And you pointed out, you said you could see the Heat being the number one seed. I think looking at that roster, a lot

of questions initially, but I'm looking at that team and it's like, yeah.

I mean, it's the best team they've had since 2019.

They won the championship with Braun then when they went to the finals. When they lost to y'all in the finals.

The team right now is better than Jimmy's finals run team?

You're crazy. You're a dope boy. I tell you, that's a strong boy.

It's yet to be seen. I disagree.

It's yet to be seen.

I think that Jimmy with Tyler Hero, Bam, and some shooters, Max Struess. Better than that. And other guys they added. Duncan Robinson was good for them.

Motherfucking Robinson. Okay. They gave him 90. Nah, they gave him 30. It looked like it was 90.

Five years, 90. It looked like 90. It was a whole bunch of... He stayed on five years.

He had to make the playoffs. He had to make it to the finals. It was a whole bunch of bonuses.

His squad don't look as bad as I think initially thought. Be thinking about a guy like Pell Larson who signed a four for 60.

Yeah, I think he's solid.

He's solid. They're just guys.

Avion is good.

So I still got Bam. So Bam counted each other out, right?

You said that's better than Jimmy Brown.

I have Giannis versus Jimmy Butler. I have a two-time MVP.

Oh, you're talking about better than that.

Finals MVP. Oh, the Jimmy Butler thing. Yes. Not even close. That's not even close. So the last good team that they had was the team that they lost to them. Jimmy was taking him out.

I would say Jimmy team better. Jimmy was taking him out. Because they had Bam still, though.

Bam.

So Bam is still Bam. Now, the number one option is Giannis versus Jimmy. I have a two-time MVP. His worst year is 27-11. I'm taking that. The rest of that trash is the rest of that trash.

Hey, but I'm not talking about the playoffs. Jimmy would be more like you would need him because he can make shots on half court.

So after that, who else is matching up? Klay versus Tyler Hero?

Oh, yeah.

See?

See?

I'll say Klay and Tim Hardaway Jr.

Yeah, brother. They'll mop that team. That was the AAU.

What was the other point of that?

Nobody?

No, he was there. He was just with the Lakers. He went to Atlanta.

Nobody?

If he played for the Lakers, he was a nobody.

Who?

Shamar Moore. Shamar Moore from the Lakers.

Oh, they had Martin, too. Caleb Martin.

Caleb Martin was pulling up Eastern Conference Finals numbers.

Yeah.

Giving Boston love.

Bro, Gabe was balling.

I didn't even know his name when he got hit by the first shot.

I was happy.

I thought we was getting the Miami heat in the playoffs. Gabe.

He didn't say Gabe.

We got a nigga from Santa Barbara.

They all had injuries when they came here.

They got sick.

What's-his-name had the same issue, like K-None. He was nice, and he had injuries when he came.

Bro, they had either.

K-None, yeah.

Bro, that team he went had, what, seven players that went undrafted.

Do they still got the kid from?

So I'm cool. I'm cool. I'm taking this.

UCLA?

No, he went to the Bucs.

No, he gone. Jaime gone. They took everybody, bro.

Oh, my God.

You got Davion Mitchell. I'm just saying, you got a crew there. You got to give up a lot to get Giannis. They gave up a lot to get Giannis.

They gave up a lot of nothing.

But you got a squad that one of the fastest teams in the NBA last season in terms of pace, if they can replicate that with this golf for at least 60, 70% of the season.

I like Bobby Portis. Bobby Portis is good.

Bobby Portis off the bat. I mean, you know what I mean? Like, they've got... I'm not going to say they're.

Yet to be seen. We'll see what kind of run they make. I don't think it's the finals. So if they don't make the finals, they're not better than Jimmy's team.

No, you can't do that because the East team ain't the same as when Jimmy was here.

That's what it was. Shit. That's what it was.

Giannis' team, they played... Like, bro, Giannis' team was good. He played against.

And they beat the Boston Celtics. They beat Boston, too.

You're saying, add Bam right now with the team he has, and then you revert everybody's team back to when Jimmy.

Went to the playoffs.

That Eastern Conference team, you're saying Miami won't make it there?

No.

With Boston, how they was good. You can't take out because now you got Milwaukee. But Milwaukee was good. Those teams were good.

They beat.

They went to the finals. They went from playing eight seed to making it to the finals. Huh?

Did Milwaukee win a championship before that?

Yeah. Yeah. See? No, they was good.

And that championship team got their ass blown out by a hurt Nets team. And they had to hurt one more player to get out of that series.

And then they almost got their ass whooped in the Hawks series. That championship Milwaukee team.

Almost does not. Yeah, almost.

Yeah, the ref. They needed a ref.

The ref had to get Trey Young out the series. Just so we can remember. And then you remember the Suns, that team was whooping the buck's ass until who?

A ref had to come in and help. The Foster Freese. Every game they lost.

They lost four straight because of a ref.

Scott Foster good at his job.

How many games did Foster do?

Milwaukee was good, bro.

Three? Three out of the four? Damn.

That's because they lost some games. Three out of the four?

Right?

Foster, they was 2-0, and then Foster came to town. Game what? Three, five?

Only when I say it was the....

I'm just saying.

I think they could have.

Only two games for Scott Foster, but they were impactful.

And KD Foote was on the line.

But it was hurt. Game three and game six. Game three and game six. Game three, we need him to turn the tide. Game six, all right, let's just wrap it up.

So you get two games. You did two games.

This is how bad the series was.

But they won four straight, right? So game three obviously started that streak. And game six was the elimination game. The line opened up as Suns favorites.

When the referees came out and they said, Foster, all money switched, put it on the Bucs. I even had 5K on it. I was like, oh, shit, take that off. Damn.

They won, though, man. I mean, they won. If Miami Heat don't make a run to the finals, they're not better than that finals team.

Yeah, they better.

Jamie brought that team to the finals a couple times. He brought Tyler Herro when he was a rookie to the finals.

Yeah, man. And Bam was young, too. Bam was young, too. That's how bad. Beat that ass. That's how bad the East was. That's how bad the East was.

They beat some good teams.

I feel like the Bucs mentally had checked out at that point. You can speak to them better than that. Again, so you can match up Jimmy to Giannis 101. Of course, Giannis is a better player, but when it comes to bringing a team to win it, Jimmy's one of the best mufflers to do it.

Like, bringing guys to, like, he had a better run. Who was the best player on the Milwaukee Bucs? Yeah, that's what it was. No, second best. Drew or Chris?

Chris Middleton.

Chris Middleton.

Who's better, Bam or Chris Middleton?

At that time, Chris Middleton.

Who's a better player, Bam or Chris Middleton?

At the time. Before he was hurt, Chris Middleton.

When Jimmy was taken with Bam, who was a better player?

Chris.

Chris.

When Milwaukee won a championship in the year after, Chris was an all-star. I don't think Bam was an all-star yet.

Bam wasn't an all-star yet.

He was a young Bam.

Yeah, where are you going with this? He's saying Bam's better than Chris. Yeah.

He ended up being better.

Yeah.

Chris got older. Bam's in the prime. He hurt to his knees and shit. They had Drew Holiday there. Yeah. Another all-star.

Ooh.

They had Brooke Lopez.

Yeah.

He was younger.

They had Bobby Porter still there. They had guys there, bro. He was a team.

You just said Bobby Porter's.

Going to help them win.

Bam not player of the year, but finished fourth in defensive player of the year voting, was second team on defense.

Say it again.

Fourth. Bam was not an all-star in those seasons, but did finish fourth in defensive player of the year in second team all-defense.

Goddamn Mobley right now.

Averaging 19 and 10.

So he averaged 19 and 10 in second team all-defense. Was better than Chris Middleton.

What?

What did Chris Middleton average? In that 2021 season? Bam averaged 19. 19? 19 and 9.

5 assists in the 2020-2021 season. Chris Middleton, 20 20.

A game. 20 a game.

Balling, too, in the playoffs.

0:00 / 0:00
