Well, let's keep this thing moving.
That's where they go to for game on the line.
Yeah?
Yeah.
He was getting boxed, man. We talk about the East a lot. And the West. West, I've traditionally been.
Yeah, me talking about some teams. I never hear y'all talking like Toronto. Swag, it's a new day. Milwaukee.
We end up talking about Miami. Miami walk. It's preseason. We have contractual obligations.
All the teams.
Don't worry.
Once the regular season starts, these are just preseason warm-ups.
You know how they are, man. Look, they... Let me talk this small market bullshit.
Right?
Before the season, everybody, hey, we're going to talk about Orlando. We're going to talk about.
Everybody.
Do it every year. How the small markets don't get no credit. Soon as the season hit, you better go on a 20-game win streak before we talk about y'all.
All right, so with Kawhi and LeBron returning to the East this offseason, Giannis taking the town to South Beach. Halliburton back for the Pacers after you're out. Celtics splitting up the Jays. Swapping PG for JB. And the Knicks looking to defend their title. The Knicks A.
Oh, Knicks.
Knicks.
Big market team.
Yes.
It was a mixing match.
Okay.
That's why you got to listen. Stop hating.
2026.
It's Friday. How does the East stack up against the West top to bottom as we enter this season?
I think it's close. It's a lot more balanced now. Like, it's not as heavy lopsided. The West is not as, like, Way stronger than the East now, in my mind. He's better than the West? The East got it right now? I said that they... I mean, let's look at the top teams. You did your top teams in the West, right?
You did San Antonio, KC, the top heavy. Then after that, I mean, some of y'all said Minnesota. I said Houston, Denver, then Minnesota, Lakers, top six. After that, it's like Phoenix, Utah.
And the East... Nah. Knicks.
The East got them now, bro.
Knicks.
Not even close.
Philly.
Not even close.
Cleveland. Toronto.
They got two, three big names.
Well.
Detroit.
Orlando. Boston.
You can pretty much say.
Miami.
Yeah.
Miami probably, it's probably more, and the East is probably more balanced.
Yeah.
Charlotte.
Nine.
Like, there's a lot more teams that you, like, have more faith in than you do in the West.
For sure.
Yeah. Even the Wizards now.
After the top six of the West. Even the Wizards now.
Yeah.
Even after the top six of the West, it's not teams you're looking at like, oh, they for sure can make it. In the East, after the top six, these teams could all possibly make the playoffs.
Come on, Gil.
Yeah. But at the top of the top, you got the Thunder, you got the Spurs. Who do you got at the top of these? Who are your top two Eastern Conference teams?
Philly, New York.
New York and Philly.
New York, Philly.
So if those four squared.
Off, It's just going to be like every year, bro. First, it's going to be West, West, East team, West, East team, East team. You got to remember, the bottom of the West is going to be in the 20s and above. The bottom of the East is going to be in the teens of losing. Remember, the West is coming to town.
They're going to smack the shit out of that coast, right? So when you're talking about West coming East, they're smacking the East. So they're going to gain wins just there, and then the top of the East is going to smack down on the West. So when you talk about bottom West versus bottom East, bottom West is whooping the shit out of the bottom East.
No, hell no.
Sack enormous of being like.
Brooklyn and insert. That's a very good way off, in my opinion. Brooklyn is the sack. So this is what we're looking at. Yeah, they're the sack of the East, which is way worse. We're looking at too far bottom.
We're looking at too far bottom.
So we got to look at the bottom of like the 7 through 10, right?
So Chicago and what's the name? They're in the teens.
Okay.
They're not winning 20 games.
No, they're not winning 20 games.
They're not winning 20 games. So is New Orleans.
Sacking New Orleans is going to be the same boat as Chicago.
I like what I'm saying. When Chicago played New Orleans, Chicago winning both those games. I mean, New Orleans winning both those games.
Nah.
Nah.
Split.
I'm talking about in general.
In general.
I'm talking about like 7-10. I think those two are stronger in the East than the ones in the West.
One through the play-in.
7-10 for the West is like Phoenix, Portland, Utah, and who else you throwing in there?
Golden State.
So now the 7-10 in the East, I'm looking at like Charlotte, Washington, uh.
Boston might be there.
Detroit, New York.
Boston, Miami. Orlando, come on. Orlando. Miami might be there.
Man, Miami.
For sure.
I'm trying to tell y'all.
Miami could be in the eighth seed.
It could be in seventh.
It could be in seventh.
I think it's probably the closest it's been in a long time. You can make arguments either way.
Cap, it's all illusion. Oh, my God. All illusion, man.
On what side?
They just won. The East just won. They just won.
New York won. You know that. No, I know. You're not saying. You're talking about totality.
Right?
So we're going. So 60.
After OKC and fucking the Spurs.
Both teams are going to win.
It's like.
Both teams are going to win 60.
Houston, I'm not really a fan of Houston. They're going to be a top three. Top four team.
Think about it. Top two teams in the West are winning 60 games. Only one team in the East might get the 60. Might get the 60. They could be, but they might get the 60.
Thunder and Spurs last season, 64 wins, 62 wins. You had the Pistons with 60 wins. You had the Celtics, surprisingly, with 56 wins, but that was a down year, so you might have expected.
The Celtics had the most wins the last year.
No, so one, two, and then East is three, four.
Three years ago, the Celtics had the best record.
Man, they're not the same team, though. But again, I can't be saying, but they're top. But there he goes. 1-2 West, 3-4 East, 5-6 West, 7-8 East, 9-10 West, 11-12 East. The East is a lot stronger than what it was, and I think they're stronger than the West when it comes through 6-10, 7-10. You got the Kings, you got the Grizzlies. You got the Mavs, Pelicans.
Yeah.
Clippers, potentially. That'll be bottom feeders.
The Orlando's, the Miami's, the Charlotte's, the Washington's.
You keep throwing Miami in there.
They is seven, bro.
You keep throwing Miami in there. I'm trying to tell you guys.
Until they do that trade, New York, Philly, Cleveland, Detroit, Toronto.
Even when they went to the finals, they was an AFC, right?
Who was it?
Jimmy Butler.
Yeah, but they was a top seed the year before. They just started off bad. Got hurt.
But again, there's a lot of... They're not better than... There's six teams I can know for sure better than them.
Y'all giving... Y'all giving teams that were good last year credit. And the world seeing their flaws.
In the playoffs.
In the playoffs. Which means regular season, we know how to play you guys a little bit better. I really believe... I don't think Detroit's going to be up there. I don't think– You don't think they'll be top six? They literally struggled with Orlando.
That was a playoff.
They struggled.
You don't think they'll be a top six team in the regular season?
Six maybe.
Well, you can say the same thing about Houston. They got their ass whooped in the first round of the playoff.
And you think they're going to be a– That's a 4-5 seed.
Denver. You can say the same thing about them.
What seed were they?
Three, right?
They were three.
Yeah.
Okay. Everybody not going to make it. 1-8, you're going to game seven. And you need everything in their power because they only have one guy. You're in a league where there's only one guy.
That's something. Every damn team.
Everybody got two guys or a third now.
You're saying Denver only got one guy?
No. Detroit.
Detroit.
They're going to be a top six seed, bro.
They have a good team.
Outplaying somebody hard? That's not going to work this year.
They lost Isaiah Stewart. But you're talking about regular season? You don't think the Pistons finished top six with that squad?
I don't know what fucking Pistons. Listen, I get it.
A young K, the young Jalen Durant.
It was a young K when it was them in the last place a couple years before that. And then what happened? He need help offensively. Help offensively. Did they fix that problem?
That's for the playoffs, though.
Did they fix that problem?
They got somebody else, though.
Who'd they get?
He was there.
Dennis was already there, but he picked up John Collins.
Them top teams. I got Indiana being down. I got Detroit being down. I got Toronto, Charlotte, of course. And Brooklyn. They're going to be at the bottom.
I got Houston being down. The Warriors are going to be down. Clippers are going to be down. Lakers are going to be down. Memphis?
I got Grizzlies, Kings. I got Memphis, Portland.
You think Portland down?
Memphis, Portland, Clippers. Lakers?
Go ahead.
Denver, New Orleans. Lakers.
You think Denver's down?
Lakers.
Huh?
You think Denver's?
Is that Denver?
Dallas, Dallas.
Okay, about the same. All right, well, let's keep this thing moving. We are in the Western Conference now. I just got to talk about a situation that went down in Portland. Blazers booted their new play-by-play announcer hours after announcing his hiring. Braden Bell was fired after a series of racist and sexist tweets from when he was in high school resurfaced. Bell, who was reportedly around 15 at the time, wrote some very interesting tweets.
I will read them to you. At 15?
At 15 years old.
In high school. In high school.
So, first one said, I'm not a racist at all, but not gonna lie. Asian people piss me off.
Ha ha ha ha ha.
Hashtag honest.
Next one said, gotta give a shout out to all the big girls out there and those closet whores.
That's a good shout-out.
Shouting out big girls and closet whores. They deserve love, too.
Not discriminating. Is the big girls the closet whores?
I mean.
Gotta give a shout-out to all the big girls out there and those closet whores. They're not saying that big girls.
Are closet whores.
But just closet whores.
But being respectful of both demographics.
I don't do this on the first day.
But then.
I love when they say that. I love when they say that.
Being respectful of both demographics. He also, this is in high school as a 15-year-old. Girls, these nights, dot, dot, dot, SMH, hashtag, thirsty for the D.
And then.
Like a player to me.
And then in a tweet from 2013, Bell wrote, we got a slut alert on aisle 10.
He said that for real? Wait, these are racist?
Yeah.
That's sexist, I think. Sexist.
I don't even, does that even exist when you're 15? I just think that's 15.
I thought he was about to say the end.
How old is he now?
Yeah.
These are from, what, 2012, 2013, so he's probably... 2012? 14 years ago.
2012?
I don't even... 29, 30 years old. Wait, when did.
No, that's when you... Twitter.
Was much different back in those days. That's all I'll say.
No, when did the women empowerment... That's 2018, right?
The movement? That has never stopped.
No, no, no.
Women have deserved to be empowered for all eternity. I mean, feminist?
Just a big feminist movement, you're saying?
Yeah, yeah, yeah. It probably happened.
A little later. 2018, 2019. Because, huh?
No, before that.
I don't think it was 2012, though.
No, it wasn't 2012.
It was like 2015, 16.
That's when, like, the shard and sheen.
I don't like retro nothing. I don't like the idea of things getting passed today and not acceptable today, but was.
Fine or not frowned upon.
Then, and then you go back and penalize somebody then. for something that was, you know.
It's a totally different person than who they are today.
15?
Like, this is shit. We say now. Like, this is something you say. Like, these are team things to say.
Well, according to the network, you're not allowed to work for them if you say those things now.
Yeah, if I say it now. At 29 or 30, yes.
Now.
Hashtag thirsty for the D. Maybe the girl was thirsty for the D. It could have been a drink he's talking about.
Thirsty for a drink, indeed.
Yeah.
Thirsty for a drink.
Who pulled that up?
Yeah, who's doing the deep dive research on it?
An ex.
Yeah.
No, it's probably somebody going for the job.
Or the nigga who.
Came in second.
An ex that's been holding on to that. Like, you know how much of a loser you got to be to see the person's name. You be like, oh my god, I hate him.
How long that take, though?
To go back to 2012.
Do you know how long, how many of these you got to do?
Nowadays, you can use AI and other proprietary tools. Just put in some keyword searches, throw his account in there, and go fishing, as they like to call it.
For real?
You can search N-words, various racial slurs, things like that.
I don't know.
I can't hold... Wait, how long?
What is the... For you to.
If somebody says something at a certain time, how much time do you give before that doesn't even.
Yeah, what's the statute?
Three years? Two years? That is the determination of the Blazers. I'm just talking about anybody. If someone says something at this age.
Where do you get a pass?
When do you say, all right, they've changed?
We ain't got reparations.
Because, I mean, whatever you sound like when you was broke... Ain't no reparations. What you sound like when you was broke and all that broke shit you're talking about, oh, yeah, it's about this and that. When you get money, you're a whole different person. You're not talking the broke talk no more. You got a whole nother lingo. Right? So personalities can change overnight. You're a different person overnight. Yeah.
So I don't... That's a lot of.
They got to put a... That's a changed person, man.
I mean... After 10.
Years, it's like, yo, they can't... You can't... You shouldn't be held accountable.
That's crazy.
For, like, past tweets 10 years ago.
I mean, what.
You got to have a statute of limitations on your tweets.
Teenager.
18.
I don't feel this way anymore.
Yeah, not at 15. That's crazy.
That's just like your son right now.
Oh, you see?
He is balling.
You seen that? He is balling, baby.
He and Brownie.
No, I'm just saying. No, I'm just saying, like, think about, like, kids on video games.
They have no idea.
Like, video, like, if you're a video gamer. I'm crazy. Like, crazy. Like, you are racist in video games. That's just a personality. What? I'm not racist in video games. What I'm saying is if I'm hiring somebody, and somebody pulled up, like, voices of when they was playing shooting games and games and them being racist, I'm not, I'm not taking that in consideration.
It depends on what he's saying.
I'm not taking that in consideration.
It depends, it depends.
First of all, everyone is the N-word no matter what color they are.
How he's doing with the N-word.
How he's doing with the N-word.
Like, you know, that bitch.
I think this is extreme firing. I don't think he should have been fired for these tweets. Hopefully get those jobs back. They don't want none of that type of shit around the house.
Poorly got to save some money. I'm sure they're just going to have.
I mean, I get it, but... They got a job. To even look that up, to even file that complaint.
Somebody saw it. Somebody reported it.
Nobody saw the shit.
Somebody was sitting on those.
Nobody saw them.
The number two person up for the job.
Somebody was sitting on those.
That is an ex who was there in real time and they sent that shit there. You got to remember, he's a nobody.
That's my point. They don't want to see him flirt. He's 29 years old.
That means he's been in other jobs in college and it didn't affect him then. So someone's seen he upgraded his life. Like, oh, you think you're about to leave? And then you just send back old reports. This is who this person was.
Can you sue for that?
Sue for what? Somebody finding your old tweets and Code of Conduct is a private company.
Code of Conduct.
When I was 15.
But it's a private company. I can do whatever I want.
As a minor, you.
15, I had shit in my white drawers back then. I ain't wore white since 15. That's what I'm just saying. When you're 30, you don't wear white no more. You know what I mean? When you're 15, you walk around with stains in your drawers.
You'd be surprised.
That's that age.
You put shit on yourself? I'm just saying at 15, that's what that is. I'm saying that's 15. That's 15.
I wear no Hanes.
I'm from the Valley, bro.
Valley. Valley kid. That means I wore boxers, bro. You remember?
What?
Big Shit.
You used to call him Big Shit on our team. That's your name now.
Shitty man? He ain't white. He ain't white.
Overseas big. Man, I'll show you after.
Okay. You think I didn't pitch it to you?
All right, well.
You wore white drawers.
Never.
White drawers.
Never. Boxers?
But that's 15.
That's that age. That's that age.
You shouldn't be getting punished for something like that at 15. Obviously, there's, you know, if you do certain things at 15.
That's what I'm saying.
Like what?
Shoot a motherfucker.
Yeah.
Thank you, Swag. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. You might be on to something.
That's what I'm saying.
Because I can be a criminal at 15 and it gets a sponge from my record.
At 18, when you, yeah.
Or you get tried as an adult.
No, I'm just saying, like, if I do something at 15 and stuff, you know, whatever that is, I get expunged like it never happened. So those tweets be expunged from his record? To be fair, yeah. I pull some shit up from when he's in his 20s. When he's an adult. Because by now, he might have a fat... His wife.
Might be fat.
Might be a fat Asian. Then now, you know, this is what he's into.
He might have married one of the girls in the closet. You know what I mean?
Yeah.
A big woman, Gil.
And that girl that was on aisle 10. Shit, you know what I mean?
Let's keep this moving, but before we do, appreciate you to everybody in the chat, even the haters. I'm seeing all your comments. I love y'all. Do us a favor. Go ahead and hit that like button if you have not done so. Make sure you subscribe as well. We appreciate y'all supporting Gil's Arena on this lovely Friday. Let's get those likes up so we can roll into this weekend with a smile on our faces.
What's the racist part, though? The Asian.
Asian people piss me off?
I don't know if that's racist.
That's racist?
I think just saying Asian, you can't say a particular group of people. They piss me off sometimes when I be driving.
You can't single out a particular group of people, I guess.
You piss me off.
Piss me off. Not I hate.
Or like there's something about, yeah, I know. That means, you.
Know what I mean? Like you said, piss me off. That means like, oh, drove in my lane, you piss me off. Like I'm trying to figure out how that will classify as racist.
They probably just didn't want the mother fucker.
Probably.
Yeah.
That's all it is.
We fucked up on hiring him.
They just hired him.
They probably found him.
Eight hours.
You don't want to pay him.
He in Portland. He in Portland. He fucked up.
They just hired him and they fired him.
He fucked up.
Like, oh, we made a bad decision.
Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
But that's what gets to your point. It seemed like a scorn to ask somebody. Once that news broke, I'm... promoted, I'm excited about it.
Oh, okay. Has he been in an organization?
I think they just hired him shortly after getting that gig.
Where was he from? Like, what was he working at before he got that job?
Let me call him.
Hold on one second. That's just, that's a... I got to go to chat GPT on this.
It might have been probably his first job, honestly.
Who knows?
Play-by-play voice?
No.
First job in the league. I'm on his LinkedIn right now. He was with the Phoenix Mercury Valley Suns, Arizona State University, Cal Baptist University.
I mean, he was a.
Play-by-play broadcast for the Pac-12 Network, so recipes of the Pac-12.
So he's broadcasting? Yes. Is he on TV and all that?
Hmm?
Hmm.
They just didn't want him, bro. And think about it.
It's Portland, bro.
They just had a lot of shit. Last year, they deal with some shit. This year, they just... They dealing with shit, Swaggy.
Yeah.
Let's keep this moving. More positive basketball-related discourse. DeMar DeRozan, been one of the most durable players in the league throughout his 17 seasons, missing just 93 total games in his career, playing 2,000-plus minutes in all but his rookie season. Compton native and six-time All-Star, currently the 16th leading scorer in NBA history and still climbing. Now just 235 points behind Hakeem the Dream for 15th place all time. At age 37, DeMar had this to say at media day when asked about what he has left to give to the Denver Nuggets.
How do you stay ready and prepare yourself to maybe put on another 2,000 minutes this year, which this team might need? Listen, I'll be honest with you. I just love hooping, man. Anybody who knows me, follow me. I play all summer.
For free.
I just love hooping, man.
I love the game.
I was a kid that used to get a whooping and come in the house because I'd be outside playing all day.
I love it. I love it.
I just always want to play. If it was up to me, I'd play every single game, every single minute. I'm going to just always be ready.
Dane, we'll start with you. Do you respect DeMar DeRozan? Of course. Love for the game.
I'm sure he's hoping to have to play 2,000 minutes again this year. But, you know, he has a different role coming off the bench. He's in a winning situation, probably better, more healthy for his mental space. But you've got to respect it, man. The guy is 37. He still loves to hoop. Like, he don't have nothing left to prove. He's made more than enough money. He could be at home with his family. But he wants to hoop.
He wants to play. He said he'll do it for free. Obviously, they're paying him to do it. He's going to probably do it as long as he can. He'll probably still, even when he retires, still be hooping in the Drew League or wherever. But you've got to respect that. You know, a guy that just stays pure to himself and pure to the game.
That's right.
We know you love the game. You're playing at 24s, playing Calabasas League with the old heads, playing Drew League, I Am Legend, wherever there's a hooping going on.
That's my Drew League teammate.
Oh, man.
DeMar DeRosa talking about his love for the game. How much respect do you have for DeMar DeRosa?
Man, this guy played, what, 12 years in the Drew League until he won a championship. That was his goal.
It was like, I.
Can't quit until I win.
So, and... Just knowing DeMar, I seen him this summer. He was a little, you know, towards the end of his career, a little nervous. He ain't never been in this situation where you get picked in August. It's a different situation. Then you see a friend of yours just retire.
And Huss Westside, Russell Westwood.
You know you....
On the upper room. You next. You next in the upper room, man. But he put in his work. He's up. You're on deck. You're up on deck. You're up on deck. So you just going to follow him? You just going to go to Denver? You next year then, huh? Nah, but he put in the work. And the way he changed his game, he was just like a slasher athletic.
Now the ultimate mid-range king. And big ups to him. He deserve it.
Whatever.
Got to get more respect on DeMar name, though. Got to put way more respect. People got to put more respect on DeMar name.
Let's shift over to you. Heard DeMar's comments. Played 2,000 minutes in all but his rookie season. Has had a season where he's.
Played 3,000 minutes.
Very available.
I mean, he's horrible.
Missed less than six games a season throughout his entire career.
Yeah, you know, he's one of those guys that really damn near went unnoticed. had a stellar career. I mean, you know, when you think about him, you think about some of the crazy dunks he missed. You know, glad he's still playing, glad he's still, you know, putting it up. Mad he didn't come to the Lakers when he left Chicago, but that's neither here nor there. Because, you know, we needed it. But I think he will help Denver because now you give you give Jokic another half-court guy who is known for hitting big shots and big moments, right?
So now you, besides it.
Just being, you know, Murray, you have DeMar too, who can put somebody on the ISO and hit those clutch shots. So it's not a team that I would want to face in the playoffs when the game slows down and then it benefits them, right? When you're talking about older players that are crafty, playoffs benefit them more than regular season.
So I'm glad he's continuing his career. And he does love this game, right? You know, he plays it at a very, very high level at UCLA, you know, or in the NBA. You know, it's not like you're seeing two different people. He's trying to be dominant both ways. Okay.
I think him being– Hooping so much is a testament of his durability. I think young kids could take something from that. I think the fact that he's been able to play for so long, so many minutes and not have injuries shows you you need to work out. The low management, he is the opposite of that. And I think that's why he was so durable, because he played in the summertime. He nonstop hooped, and his body was in such good shape that it kept him healthy throughout his whole career. So a lot of people are like, oh, you need to rest. I think you look at DeMar...
and say, this is why you need to hoop and not rest.
Curry is why you need to hoop.
Like, continue to keep running. KD. But are those guys, the KDs, the Currys, the DeMar, DeMar seems like just a hooper to me. I'm five on five. I'm hooping all summer as opposed to, I'm doing the individual stuff and all that. And I'm not really, you know, I'm not really touching the five on five until we get to training camp. Different ways of approaching it, but I'm just curious.
No, you approach it just like the past. There's only been this new group of technology, of nerds that came in. That said, hey, this is how much output you can only put in and you got to have this much rest. Now, if you apply that to anything in the world, the same result is going to happen. I don't know why it's not being seen here. If we take a weightlifter who lifts 300 and you say, all right, we're going to lift a day, 300 max out, take tomorrow off.
and then the next day, try to lift that first weight at 300, you're gonna hurt yourself. You're gonna take a week off and then go back into it. It's not gonna work out. When you tell a sprinter, hey, take two days off, and then that day you come back, let's go out and try to sprint again, you're gonna pull something. We all know this. So when you're saying, all right, in the NBA, we're gonna take these days off, and then now you gotta come out there and guard a goddamn Steph Curry and run around these streets, you're gonna pull muscles, You're going to spring things that you're not normally. You know what I mean? So that happens.
We just, I don't know who still convinced these people to take days off when everybody who's lasting, the McHale Bridges and all of them, they're hooping all year round. They're lifting all year round. Huh?
Jordan used to gather.
All of them. That's all they played. They just played five on five.
And they practiced.
That's why their bodies were conditioned for that. So like, Again, these guys, they practice and work out at game speed all summer, all year long. That's why they're in such great shape and able to be durable. So, DeMar is the perfect example.
He's tough as a hoop. He's able to hoop everywhere. So, a lot of people can't go everywhere and hoop, though.
Are you an all-conditioned hooper, Swaggy?
Like, any type of gym you could show up in and.
No, I mean, you know, some... No. I mean, not.
Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
No, you know, what's funny is people don't realize that there's... There's... There's players who can play everywhere because they trained everywhere. Then there's players that I can only play in the gym. I can't shoot outside on these double rims and the wind blowing at us. There's players who just can't do that.
Some guys can't even play ones.
Man, that's what I'm saying.
They can't play two-on-twos. Their brains are wired for five-on-five. Right? And that's really a thing. So, there's all different type of hoopers, but, you know, the ones that don't care about, like, injuries and stuff like that. Like, I just want to get better. This is what I love doing, and I'm going to go out there and play it hard no matter what.
So, when you look at just the landscape of the NBA, obviously NBA, we're talking about Jalen Dern getting that $ 200 million, guys being able to cash out, live the lifestyle. That they want being able to make decisions if they want to bring their friends to first class or pay for meals and do things like that. But how many players do you think actually love basketball versus loving the lifestyle it provides?
I think everybody loves basketball. It takes a lot to get there. But once you finally get that money, it could change you. But putting that work in is tough. tough. Dedication, going to the gym, waking up every night, sacrificing your body, your mind, not going out when everybody else is going out, doing the homework, push-ups, winning your friends and all that.
I don't got to do it.
Listening. I think all that is tough. That goes in and it's tough.
For sure. For sure. That part, getting there is hard. The stress of, shit, the coach might not be playing me in college.
Like, that shit tough.
Back in the day when we wasn't getting NIL money.
So you think everybody loves the game?
You have to love it to do it like this.
Nah. But you're not doing it like this.
I said up into the NBA. Nah, I think some people are just good at it. That's why they do it. Some people really don't.
I'm gifted.
I'm gifted at something.
I think it's about 60 to 70 guys that love it.
60 to 70, that gift will not just work out.
There's a good 30 to 40 percent of guys that don't love the game.
I mean, I think there's varying levels of love, but you think there's about 20 to 25 percent of guys who actually truly genuinely just love basketball.
The elite.
I'd be hooping anyway. Of the elite.
When you're talking about maximizing. 40 percent.
I'd say 40 percent of them really love the game. Love it?
Yeah. 40%.
Then there's like a middle tier that guys really, really like the game. Then there's some guys that just do it because they're good at it and it's a check.
Wait.
You think you could just get good without.
Some guys are just naturally.
There's a lot of.
Guys you know that don't. There's nobody naturally NBA good just picking.
They worked at it because they knew that's what they could make money at doing but they didn't love the game.
You got to love to do it. To be in the gym by yourself and getting up shots, that shit don't... You got to love it. Shit, no.
There's a lot of jobs people do they don't love, Nick.
Well, I don't love the mental aspect of it, but I love playing it. I love playing. I don't love that I know I'm better than this person, but the coach... fucks with me, but I still go to practice. I still put in my work. That's love, what I'm saying.
Some people... That's what I'm saying.
You got to love.
You got to love.
They love to teach people until they become a teacher and you're like, I don't know if I love teaching these people.
There is love. There's levels of love and when you're talking about loving it to the point where you're it's the only thing you want to do. When we're saying love, we're talking about that's the only thing you think about. You don't care about anything else, right? If someone said, hey, do KD love the game? Yes, he sacrificed having relationships, kids, and family so he can only focus on the game, right?
That's love. Like, that's the only thing that I want to do. It's like video games and this, right? Yes.
It's watching film after film after film. Sacrifice not having a family. For basketball? Yeah, so I can focus on basketball all day. But if you do other things, play video games. So that means he loves playing video games. He loves doing other activities. Video games and basketball. Another thing he loves, too.
Yes, video games and basketball.
Everybody can love it, but you don't have to. That's just the same phrase. You got to sacrifice.
There's a difference. There's why.
So it's only him and who else that loves the game? That's obsession.
There's obsession. But when we're talking about, when they're talking about loving the game, the game of basketball. These type of people don't get out of shape because they love the game of basketball, right? They don't go, oh, I ain't going to touch a ball all summer. And then I'm going to wait to training camp to get in shape.
Most of the 90s and stuff, right? That's what they say. I'm not going to touch a basketball. We had a long year, right? Like the elites of the elite, what separates everyone is love, dedication. In mindset. Opportunity. Right? No, no, no, no, no. Opportunity comes because they're fucking loving something.
I'm in the gym. You can't tell me because you Jordan, you love the game more than everybody in the world.
Like, that sounds crazy.
Well, it sounds crazy until you're around them and then they're waking up at 2 a.m. in the morning while you're still.
Asleep, right? But if you wake up at 2 a.m. and get two hours of workout and I wake up at 6 and get the same two hours, that mean you love the game more than me?
No, no, no. What loves the game more than you.
Is I work.
We got the same two hours.
No, no, no, no, no, no.
See, see, see, me and you are different. Me and you are different. So let me speak so you can understand. When Kobe calls you at 3 a.m. and he says, I'm about to go work out, I'm going to go work out. Do you want to come on, man? I just got back from the club.
Boom.
He hangs up. He goes work out. Then when you come in for your first workout, he's working out with you with his second workout. Then when you leave and he's working out again, so while you're putting in two hours of normal basketball and he's putting in 8 to 12 hours.
When he's putting in 12, he's putting in 12. But you're not. But you're lacking because of time. If I put in 12 hours and you put in 12 hours at this time, we both put in 12 hours.
Stop pretending you're doing the same thing as everybody else. LeBron James comes to the gym at 12 o'clock. He comes to the gym at 2 o'clock for a fucking 7 o'clock game. That is a different type of love. When you're talking about Kobe Bryant, there's no way you was on the same level of working out.
So when James come in, what time James come in? As long as he get the same hours of working.
But you're not getting the same hours of work. There's a reason there's a separation from greatness to everybody else.
I can't tell nobody else how they love something. I can.
You can't.
I can though.
You can't.
Can you?
I love my kids more than everybody else in the world.
But if you're sacrificing for it, but if you're sacrificing.
I love my kids more than you.
What I'm saying is like, I hear you.
That's what you're saying.
If you're trying to compare something to two people and one person is putting in 15-hour days and you're putting in two, and you're putting in two, you can't say you're loving.
The same thing.
You said talent, too. So if you're better than me, but we put in the same hours of the day. You said people make it off of just talent.
They make it to the NBA off of talent.
So you better than me, but I still love the game.
What are you saying?
Okay, there's a difference. Talent can get you so far. Love takes it to a different level.
But if I don't have talent and I get there.
If you don't have love?
If I don't have talent and I get there.
Like what type of player?
Who got more love? If I'm trash, but I make it.
Who?
You love the game.
Yeah. Yes. So that mean you I love it more because I didn't I ain't supposed to.
How much hours are you putting into this thing?
I'm not supposed to be here.
So how many hours did you put into this thing?
I'm putting the same amount.
You can't put in the same amount. I don't got talent.
I don't got talent.
So you're not. Brother, brother, listen to what you're saying. If you're more talented than me. and we both make it to the same place, we're not putting in the same hours. I have to put in triple, quadruple just to keep up with you, sir. I didn't have talent. I didn't have the talent. I had to wake up at 5 a.m.
I had to wake up at 5 a.m.
Sir, I had to wake up.
I'm saying if.
You're already better than somebody and we put in the same hours, but you're still better than me, but I get there.
Do you still love.
The game more than me?
If you're more talented than me.
And you already, you're going to be better than me.
Sir, if you're more talented than me and you're putting in the same exact hours, we're just doing this, sir. For me to catch you, for me to catch your talent, I have to put in more hours than you. To catch you.
So if you put in two hours... I can never catch your talent.
If you put in two... If we start off today.
Then you say you love the game the same.
If we put.
That's what I'm saying.
What I'm saying is if we put... Fuck. If we put in 200... Damn. If we put in 200 shots... If you're a better shooter than me... Yeah.
And I want to be a better shooter than you.
Yeah.
I can't put in the same amount of shots, right?
That's correct.
So if we're both at this, you're this, but I have to put in, if I'm trying to catch him in shooting or if I'm trying to take his spot, I have to work out before him. I got to work out with him. I got to work out after him. I got to put in way more time to catch this person. So when you talk about greatness, when you talk about the Michael Jordans, when you talk about the Michael Jordans, when you talk about the Steph Currys, when you talk about the Kobe Bryants, it's all the same fucking ingredient. They're working out way more than everybody else.
They be doing the same hours.
You're not doing the same hours.
They be are.
Then you're going to be a great.
And he's already more talented than me, but he see me doing the hours, he do the same hours. I can never catch him, but we doing the same thing.
He love the game more than me.
What?
Do he love the game more than me?
Who?
If he's doing the same thing.
Y'all love it the same.
But he's already better than me.
He's already better than me. More talent.
And me doing the same hours of the day. I can't catch him.
You can't catch him.
But do he love the game more than me?
No, y'all love it the same. That's all I wanted to say. But that has nothing to do with it. You're not putting in the same hours as Steph Curry. You're not putting in the same hours as KD. You're not putting in the same hours as LeBron, Kobe, Jordan. Because I know it. Like, I'm sorry. I'm sorry. But you're not putting in the same fucking hours.
How do you know that?
Because we will see it in your results. A streamer. We know streamers, right? Oh, my God. You can't say you are a Kai or a Speed or a Mr. Beast because you're not putting in the fucking time as if that's why you're not on the level. They're putting in hours after hours.
I can put in all the hours and not play the game and the coach won't play me. What the fuck is you talking about? I can put in 15, 20 hours. The coach got to put me in the game. If he don't, I can never show that. I still love the game. What the fuck is you talking about?
What I'm talking about, sir?
Because you the star, you love it more than anybody in the world. That shit sound crazy as fuck.
Sir?
You can't tell somebody how they love the game more than me.
Actually, we can. And that's the problem.
It's not boxing.
If a motherfucker averages 30 points a game in the NBA on an NBA team, How many hours do you actually think he's putting in to actually put that up there? Get trapped every fucking game.
Huh?
What type of shape do you think he's in?
I think you're both right.
That's the difference between what I'm saying. There's a lot of people who had a whole bunch of motherfucking talent. Who had a whole bunch of talent.
And they couldn't get over the... Yes.
You're both right.
Like, if you ask Shaquille O'Neal... How about this? If you ask Shaquille O'Neal, did he love the game, he's going to say yes, right? If you ask Kobe, did Shaq love the game, what is he going to say? Not as much. Okay, thank you. You know why? Because one is putting in so many hours. He said, man, if I had your fucking body, but you had my work ethic, I would be God. There is a difference.
There is a difference.
You can tell somebody that if you see... But what he's saying is you're going to see the results if you actually.
Motherfucker, I don't get the time. If you're putting in fucking eight hours a day working on your skill, doing your shit, and you're going to practice against people who ain't doing it, you're going to see the time. You know how I know? Because I did it. That's how I went from fucking 15 to starting to then taking somebody's position to most improved. It was called work.
It's opportunity.
Who is giving me the opportunity? Work.
It don't mean you work harder than somebody.
But I did.
It's opportunity.
It don't mean you work harder than somebody.
What is an opportunity?
God damn.
What is an opportunity, man?
You can't say it.
Hold on, hold on.
You got an opportunity that I didn't get.
What is the opportunity?
There's some fucking niggas on the street that still go to the gym 24 hours a day that never made it to the NBA. Still there, trying to get an opportunity. Why? And still work out.
You telling them they don't work hard?
Fuck yeah! You telling a.
Nigga at 24 that still go to 24, knowing he ain't got no opportunity, still putting in the work.
He don't love the game.
Yes.
That's what the fuck I'm saying.
Okay, yeah.
If you're still there, then you can do it.
If you're the best at something, you love it more than anybody. That's basically what you're saying. I mean, you the best at something, you love.
It more than anybody.
It's fair to say.
It's not.
If I'm the best at something, I mean, I love it more than everybody.
That's what I'm saying. That's what I'm saying.
How can you tell somebody?
If I got a 5'10 kid who spends 20 hours a day working on post moves, he can never be a fucking center in the NBA. That don't mean he don't love the game.
That don't mean he don't love the game. A center in the NBA?
That don't mean he don't love the game. I'm saying you've seen people who have willed themselves to a certain level of talent by merely just putting in the work. I get what you're saying, too. That's what I'm saying. You're not going to make it no matter what you do.
That's what I'm saying.
But you're wielding, like, opportunity. Like, what he's saying is opportunity. No, I'm saying. If we're in the NBA and we're on the court together and me and you are 15th and 14th on the roster, who is getting the opportunity? Neither one of us. One of us is going to get the opportunity because we're putting ourselves in position. So when they call our name or if they don't, they see me doing something over and over, waking up, looking at the call off. Damn, Gilbert's in here again. Gilbert's in here again. Oh, shit, he looks better in practice. Let me give him an opportunity. See, there's a lot of you.
Who think you deserve an opportunity? You go get your opportunity. How the fuck you telling me, nigga? What are you talking about? I was ranked 99. I was ranked 99. I got drafted as the second pick.
You blessed. No, don't give me fuck.
That dumb shit is blessed. I worked harder than everybody.
What the fuck are you talking about?
I worked harder. You know why? Because I slept in the gym. So I know who came in there. I know who was in the gym.
Was you working? Was you working?
Yes.
Most improved.
Most improved.
Most improved. Most improved. The opportunity is because I took that shit. I wasn't in the club. I wasn't coming to practice at 11 o'clock. I was there at 5 o'clock. I was over there taking 500 shots before practice. And then when practice came, I'm whooping their ass so when they put me in the game, I was fucking ready.
Hey, look, y'all.
That's the difference.
15 episodes in, this is going to be the first time.
I'm crazy. I ain't nothing crazy.
Danny, what you got for us?
There's a reason there's a bust. Bust, bust, bust.
You didn't put that work in. You didn't put.
That work in. If you a top pick and you don't perform, you didn't put that work in. You just thought that shit was easy because you're number one.
Oh, shit.
There's a reason these greats are great. They have the talent and they're out working everybody. Oh, shit. There's never been nobody up on these these lists and said, man, you know what? He's a top five pick. He didn't even work that hard. Never.
Oh, my God.
Never.
There's never been a top five. Never.
There's not been no top five up there.
You just said Shaq don't work hard.
Is he in your top five?
Is he top five?
No.
Is he top five? No.
Oh, come on. Shag not top five?
It's all time.
Did Magic work hard?
Magic worked hard too, right?
He worked hard all the time.
I mean, on and off the court.
On and off the court. James?
James don't work hard?
He don't work hard?
James don't take 600, 700 shots a day? No, you said it. I'm just saying.
He don't work hard as them.
Who said?
He don't work hard as them. He don't love the game like them, you said.
If you ask them. If you ask them, remember, there's a mountaintop of work ethic. So when you're talking about Jordan and Cole, and you ask them, you ask somebody like Steph Curry about his conditioning, right?
As long as you in the gym.
30 hours a day, you're going to be the number one best player in the world.
You're going to put yourself in a position.
You're going to put yourself in a position.
You're going to love the game more than everybody. You remember this? There was this number one high school kid. I can tell you the difference because we all know this story. There's a number one high school kid. He goes to college. He's the number one pick in the draft. He goes to attend the workout. He's the number one player.
He thinks he's working hard. What does Steve Kerr tell Ant-Man? That ain't even enough. See, you don't know what your work ethic is until you meet someone different. So this coach is looking at Ant-Man, Ant-Man think he going harder than a motherfucker. And he say, yeah, Clay and Steph, that ain't even it. We ain't even trying to draft this right now. You don't even have it in you.
Don't draft Ant-Man. So what did Ant-Man say? Don't draft Ant-Man.
No, no, no.
Don't draft Ant-Man.
Now, this is the difference between love. This is the difference between love and a regular-ass player. What was Ant-Man's response?
He put the work in.
No, no, no.
What did he say?
He said he called his trainer after the workout and said, we need to change our shit up. This shit is different here. This NBA is different.
Not to take away from what you're saying, Gil, but who did that coach end up drafting in that draft?
Wiseman.
Okay.
And what happened to him?
Thank you.
Thank you. See, you see what happened to him?
It didn't pan out, right?
What happened to the guy who actually got that call?
I thought Wiseman worked hard.
No. What happened to Ant-Man? Ant-Man called his trainer.
Oh, he was wrong, right?
Ant-Man called his trainer. This is the difference between the elite and regular athletes. This is the difference between elite and the... Ant-Man got that call. Instead of him being offended and saying, I'm going to just keep working, he said, I need to change my whole shit. This wasn't it. What we was doing, that's some college shit. I need to tap in. That's the difference.
Different levels of love.
Some people are okay with just being okay.
Yeah.
Some people are being okay with, I don't really want to care about the politics and all that stuff.
It's okay.
Hey, listen, that's the difference.
That's what I'm saying. How you going to tell somebody how they love the game?
Easy.
No, you can't.
Easy.
If you're better than me, that don't mean you love the game more than me. I can never work as hard and beat Michael Jordan.
If I'm fucking.
Somebody that that's not Michael Jordan that can't jump inside if I do 24 hours a day squat Can I jump inside Michael Jordan?
No.
All right, do I do it? Do you love the game more than because he could jump higher than me?
No, he loves the game more because it puts more time in than you.
I could never jump inside.
I don't know what you think.
No matter if I can fucking bitch press a thousand pounds I would never jump inside Michael.
Uh-huh.
What do you do? Is he do he love the game more than me?
I How much time are you putting in?
I just told you, 24 hours a day.
If you're putting 24 hours a day in, then you love the game more than him.
Can I jump like Michael Jordan?
Who said anything about physical?
That's what you're talking about. No, the fuck I'm not talking about. I could be Michael Jordan or LeBron. I could be these niggas if I worked 24 hours a day. That's what you're saying?
No, I did not say that.
We need to get a clear communication.
I did not say nothing about physical attributes. I said if they put more work into it than you, they love it more. You're changing it to who's better and who's not better.
He gave you your answer, though. He said that if y'all work the same, you love the game the same. But I get what you're saying.
You're saying a 5'10. That's just not working smart. That's dumb. Some people work really hard and don't get to the mountaintop. But they just might love something. That's what I'm saying.
But you still.
Will land somewhere close. You'll show that you love it.
Whether it's a high D1 or overseas, you could be a Mike James. But if you're trying to be a post player 5'10, you're not working smart.
Well, I'm saying that somebody can will themselves in a position to make an opportunity happen for themselves.
But then you can say that person loves it, but they might not be as obsessed.
He just said the same thing. He can will himself.
I'll just use an example. You talk about Kawhi, right? Kawhi came to the league. He wasn't a great jump shooter. I believe you told this story before. But he put so much work in. He willed himself to be an elite shooter. Some people love, some people obsess with it. But they can compare you to somebody in the same position that was more obsessed with the game than you.
You can compare love.
You might not have been as obsessed with it as this person. You know what I'm saying? You're the same height. You have the same abilities. But you didn't put in that work. But you agreed. If y'all put in the same type of time in And he still ends up being better. It doesn't mean you still love the game the same.
That's my argument.
That wasn't the argument. All right, can y'all shake hands before we move on?
No, I'm, no.
Be frank.
Give him $ 100.
We said what we said, you. That's what I said this whole time. Maybe you might want to try to understand some time from a guy who had to do it. You understand what made Kobe great? Did he have Michael Jordan's attributes? Did he jump like Michael Jordan? Did he move like Michael Jordan?
No.
What he had to do is he found out Michael Jordan's regimen, and he said, you know what? Since I'm lacking these things, I need to put in more. More more he goes to Tim Grover right Tim Grover's a man and Mike only spent this much time. Okay, cool I need to do double I needed more I need to know what that was the point because I'm so far behind in the attribute part I gotta put in more I gotta love it more So if you ask Kobe who loved the game more between him and Mike, who do you think he's gonna say?
Himself usually compare people in the same cat.
If you ask him I But who would Mike say, though? Who would Mike say? Mike's going to probably... Shit, Mike fucking around might say him. I mean, he called me every fucking day. He called me every day. He called me every playoff game. He going to say him?
I don't think Mike would say that.
You never know.
Most of the time, you don't compare people that's outside of the same talent realm.
I'm not comparing my work to yours.
Who would LeBron say?
Probably him. I mean, he goes to the gym at 2.30. How can you prove who's worked.
Like, who got the most work that day? Time.
It's called time.
You see the results most of the time. People will tell you the stories of who's doing what.
Time, film.
You know who doesn't love the game.
Like, Rondo's like, man, I hated watching film, and then Coach showed me something in film, and then he said I was obsessed with it. I had to watch it 24-7, learn this, learn that. There's a reason a nigga can memorize everything in a court. He obsesses with the game so much. These guys at this level, like Wimby, you're going over and over and over and over. There's a difference between The elite elites and regular-ass all-stars. You can see it in their game every year.
Talent, too.
Right? Talent makes a difference.
Zion is talented.
You can still see it.
But we all say, well, has he gotten better? No, no, because you know what? He hasn't obsessed with the game yet to understand, okay, I got this flaw. I need to do this, this, this, this. That's what the elites do.
All right, so if you're not an elite, you're not obsessed with the game.
Time, Nick.
Time.
I'm saying time. No matter how much, if Brunson puts 10 hours into his craft and LeBron puts 10 hours into his craft, they both love the game the same no matter the results.
I think he could give credit to somebody.
No matter the results.
Like if he saw TJ McConnell say does he love the game, he'd probably say yeah.
You're talking about Avi Story. You wouldn't say he's elite.
Avi Story is.
Avi Story to me, a guy, not a household name, but Avi Story to me, a guy who literally willed himself to the NBA.
Like Draymond Green. You can tell Draymond Green.
He played Arizona State.
You can tell somebody like Draymond Green watched film and film and film over and over, watching people's tendons.
That's loving the game.
You can give credit to guys that aren't elite and say that he really loved the game.
And then there's some lazy motherfuckers out there that just got talent.
Draymond, he loved the game? Yeah. Yeah.
All right. Well, let's... Love the game as well.
You got the questions, right?
Let's love a new game.
I don't know the hours.
It's time to try and finesse some bread on Polymarket. This is Put That On Something. We're going to give you a trade on the Polymarket app. You got to pick a side. Put That On Something. So we're going to shift over to the NFL.
He playing at a 24-hour fitness being fat and shit. He think that's loving the game. Yeah, I can run around being lazy too. High, high stress.
Pack him up, Swaggish. It's fine. Good segue there, Josiah.
I tried to.
Have you ever beat me in one-on-one?
No.
He hasn't lost to you either.
You love the game more than me?
Technically, he hasn't lost to you. So let's shift over to the NFL where there's some big games this Sunday including Gil's Rams pulling up to Philly to take on the Eagles.
Rams are 1-2 to start this season. Browns won! I picked the Browns.
Rams are 1-2 to start this season after losing to the Broncos in Week 3.
Wait, no.
Huh?
He's sweating.
Eagles coming off an embarrassing loss.
I was trying to take my anger out on Big Baby. And I was trying to see if anybody was this big.
Big Baby want to shoot.
And reality kicked in.
It's like, you know what?
I really don't.
Want that smoke.
Big Baby want to shoot. So, Eagles coming off an embarrassing Monday night loss to the Bears who are without their QB1, Caleb Williams. So, right now, Rams are the heavy favorite. 64% of traders thinking they'll get the win. But let's take it to the couch.
Swaggy.
Rams, Eagles, this Sunday. City, your brother, your love. Rams are 1-2 right now, right? Yeah, Rams are 1-2. That's why he's taking Eagles.
Rams need this.
A fuck Hector pick, if you will.
That's what we doing?
I'm going Rams, man. They got to get one, right? We both picked the Browns last time. You can't have those guys and keep losing.
Games, right?
But the way the Eagles lost, that's why I feel like they're going to come back.
Like They lost to us without our quarterback, though.
27.
It's a bounce back for both teams, it looks like, right? It's going to be a battle. Where is this game being played? In LeBron's new city. I thought it was in Philly.
At home?
They ain't beat the Eagles in three years. Who ain't beat the Eagles? It's okay, they beating themselves. We're going with Ram City all day, baby.
We're taking the Rams.
I'm going to trade. I'm going to trade.
The Rams are at the Eagles.
Huh?
Rams are in Philadelphia.
Oh, yeah.
Well, I watched.
Oh, they're in Philly.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I thought it was here. West Philadelphia, born and raised.
You got to get people to win money.
I thought it was here.
You just going off your heart, like, because you like the Rams.
Don't follow me then. Shit. When the season starts and I start saying Lakers shit, don't.
Follow me then.
Because y'all know.
So what are the Eagles' record right now? Eagles, I believe, 2-1.
That's going to be, that's in Philly?
In Philadelphia.
Yeah, but that's different.
I'm still going Rams. That's the process. I'm still going Rams. You're going with your Rams?
Rams.

Time to wrap it up for today, Dan. I know you got traffic you got to deal with. I got to go coach some Little League. It is time for Mostly Fans. Shout out to everybody in the chat.
What?
Mostly Fans. We are still late. It's still time.
We love this shit more than everybody else. We love it more than every other show.
We love it more than every other show, Swaggy.
One hour. Who doing one hour right here? You don't even love it like that. You're just doing it just to do it. Three hours? I'll be talking.
I remember times back in the day, it hit that 90-minute threshold, and the red light would come on, trying to get your ass booted off the stage. Get the fuck off the stage. We got the headliner coming.
That light.
You should have heard.
I was like, I ain't even trying to come. Come on, man.
Let me do it like that. Dead tap on the shoulder. We got the headliner coming now. Make sure you drop some questions in the chat. Super chat, and we will read them on the show.
Hold on.
Let me get it ready to go. Sorry, ladies and gentlemen. A little inside humor here on the arena.
Shit, sometimes inside humor got to be outside humor.
It do. I have no restraints. I can do what I like.
Yeah, you can. I can.
Give us free. So we got SS Productions NBA. It says Swaggy's fit on point today. That's complimentary.
Feel me?
I'm back to Swaggy, baby.
You can't go pink shoes with pink tops. I mean, salmon on salmon, whatever that is. You got to go bag your jeans now, bro.
You got to go bag.
I know you got a Frenchie upstairs. A Frenchie upstairs? You got to go bag your jeans. No, no, no.
I got to see this shit from how it looks to them.
It doesn't look like it. It looks like on this.
I'm going to say it right.
Look up.
Look up on the jumbo.
Go to him.
Go to him.
How does Fit look to the.
Oh, look at that.
You have to hear what's in the bell bottom. Swaggy boat.
You feel me? Swaggy boat.
You feel me?
Shout out to Nick Arcade, one of my.
Favorite shows growing up. This is what I feel every time the green screen comes up.
I think you're just a hater.
You're like the big brother that just peaked. You just got to break your little brother down all the time. That's what it is.
What I just realized is I don't know fashion. I just don't know fashion. I don't know what it is. I have no idea about it. So I'm going to stay.
In my own lane.
It's day to day.
It changes every day.
Everything's in style now. Baggy, tight.
Everything's in style now. The key is wear what you dig, brother. Wear what you dig, sir. All right, we got a comment from Mike, or a question from Mike, Mike 100.
This nigga just grabbed this shit out of his trunk, though. Like, he finished working out, playing basketball, then he goes in the trunk, and then he just grabs a shirt, grabs a pants.
What do they wear to school now? Pajamas and shit, right?
They learn from me, yeah.
Mike, Mike 100, what was the toughest contract negotiation y'all had when playing, and how did it end? Toughest contract negotiation when playing, how did it end?
Hmm.
We got some good comments in the chat yeah I mean mine was mine was mine was talked about earlier in the right place like even my my first contract to go to Washington um uh.
I mean it was either my options was I had 55 from Clippers and then DC can only I mean not DC but Golden State can only pay me $ 4 million. So I had to sign a one-year $ 4 million. And then we had an under-the-table deal, which was seven years, $ 79 million.
A circumventor.
Yep. So if I took the $ 4 million, that came with a Viper, Ferrari, Lamborghini. That was part of the deal to take the $ 4. 9 and then the $ 79 million. And it was that or take the $ 64 million. for six from Washington. So it was like, it was like either eight year, 84, not knowing if, if I didn't get hurt, would they still give me that deal or take the money that was on the table, which was Washington, which was a better deal for those of my, that was my hardest decision, being young, turning down them three cars while being broke. Damn.
Danny, how about yourself? I mean, all of mine were pretty smooth.
Most of them were on the up, like, well, early on was very small, but I, Didn't have a name, so I just took whatever I could get. And then after that, it was like trying to see where I wanted to go. Before I came to L.A., it was like, first one was back in San Antonio.
It happened quick. But that first big contract, were you smiling?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Were you whistling?
As long as they come to a number. They said they weren't able to reach the max number. They obviously always try to get a deal. But I was like, we're not going to go under this number. At my position, everybody was getting like 15 per. They got me at like 10 per, which was... In Texas, you're going to get a little bit more. But it was an easy deal.
I was able to come back. Is that what they use in Texas? We're going to win. We're going to keep the same team together. Then before I came to L.A., it was between L.A.
And Dallas.
That was a little tough, but I knew it was the best place, chance I had to win. Toughest ones were probably in Philly, where it took a little longer. I had been there, and the end of my deal was, of the L.A. deal, it was like a two-year 30-year deal. And then I was supposed to be re-up, but the market, they originally said they was going to pay a number, but they saw what.
The market was.
They didn't have to pay that number. Ended up coming down quite a bit.
This is Philly? Was it a Darryl Murray situation?
Doc kind of pushed it to make it a little bit better. And it was a two-year, on the second year, non-guaranteed, two-year 20. Because I was supposed to stay in the same range, about the 15 range, but it ended up being, it sort of came down to like eight, and then it ended up being 10. The second year, non-guaranteed, and I tore my knee after that. So I wasn't sure if the shit was going to get picked up the second year.
Man, you smoothed this shit around.
Nah, let's talk about shorts. Let's talk about shorts.
Nah, I don't want that shit as PTSD.
Play with your bread.
Yeah, he ran into the old, that agent has two players.
Why do you like telling this? Like, you hate me?
So I'm just saying. Why you want to break me down? How the fuck I break you down? That already happened. We're trying to educate the next people.
I'm telling you, I got PTSD from it.
Goddamn it, it's just going to be another year. It was two people. He had two shooting guards fighting for the same money.
And then what happened? Nick, you want to tell the story? I imagine that the one of them who wasn't Nick took it.
I told him from the beginning. I said, who?
Oh, he got fired, didn't he?
He got fired at.
I appreciate your candid nature and always seem to offer great advice.
Because what I did early in my career was listen to Contract stories.
Yeah.
Right. So I'm listening to like stories and hearing this stuff. So when things when things are happening, the free agent, I'm like, oh, shit. Hey, whoa, whoa. I don't don't do that. So like when you said the market, I was going to ask you this. When the market dip, what player signed a deal that they shouldn't have?
I think it was Luke. There you go.
Yeah.
But that was before.
When he signed that, I think everybody was just like, damn, what the fuck?
Damn.
Lou was like, I'm cool, man. I got white tees and shit.
I'm in LA.
I'm at home.
Because Lou was way... He never signed more than.
Yeah. And he was messing up the market.
He was worth about $ 15, $ 20 a year. But I think it was also... It was.
After the year Schroeder turned down. But it just... It wasn't there. The CBA... It was shifting.
It wasn't just money... Everybody was on the books for shit. And the cap, the salary cap was the apron. They was like, no, we're not going above this. So we don't have to pay you that. You know what I'm saying? And there's nobody out there that has the money to pay you that anyway.
It was the lockout year, too. They played a game in preseason I missed and all that.
People don't understand this, too. Like in players, when you're going to a free agency, there's a pecking order. There is a pecking order. There's a pecking order in who the top free agent is and in your position. Now what happens is, if it goes one, two, and three, And he's worth 100. I'm worth 95. He's worth 90.
Right?
That's how it's going to go. Now, if he fucks off and they get him for a discount, they get his ass for 75. I'm at 70. I'm mad at him. He's mad at him. He's mad at me. He's at 65. That's how it goes. So, like, people hurt each other. If somebody's not going in, taking that max money, and we're sitting there looking, waiting for somebody like... Come on, please sign. And when you see somebody get overpaid, you're.
Like, yeah!
Yeah!
Some guys definitely made the market better, too. Like, okay, he got paid. Like, that's going to help.
Yeah, like, for this summer, Austin Reeves signing the deal he does, like, a non-All-Star making that, he'd be like, yeah!
In our time, it was, like, 3 and D guys, like, Wesley Matthews, one of the first guys, Demari Carroll, Alan Crabb signed a big one, Evan Turner signed one.
We're like, oh, shit, okay, we good.
But I think that Evan Crabb messed up.
But that was a precedent.
They could sign up and stay there.
We're in a good spot. We can get 15 for the next couple of years if shit keep going up.
Them giddy deals, that was bad. You're getting a little older.
Now they start discounts. I ain't that much of a step slower goddamn.
All good. Ladies and gentlemen, let's keep this thing moving.
That was it. What do you mean? We got one more?
Let's go.
One more good one. So who's, this one's for Play for Keeps with a Z. Who's on the all-time special ed NBA team?
Look this way.
I'm not looking that way. I'm looking right here. Down here at the chat. Nah, nah, nah. Nah, I mean, we don't know who's slow.
We don't. We can take this in a different light, right? Like, who's the funniest? We can't make a special ed category. I'm just messing with you.
We can put the most, like, Media not savvy. Most entertaining media-wise. Who's going to say some wild shit in the media? I think a couple of them are on the same team. We could look at Minnesota right now.
Yeah.
And say, that's going to be an entertaining media team.
The Wizards in 2008, 7, 5, 0, 6.
Hey, listen.
The Wizards from 2000 all the way up to.
I just realized I didn't have no chance. Either we was going to be really good... Think about it. They had Kwame Brown.
I had Kwame Brown. Michael Jordan, Kwame used to break.
Oh, you mean back then.
From 2000, I'm saying, to.
No, just our team. Think about our team that's in media right now. Me, you.
Today's game or just overall, all history?
Think about this is one team. You have me, him in the media, right? You got Brendan Haywood in the media. You have.
JaVale with y'all?
JaVale was with us.
JaVale.
Then you have.
Andre Blatch.
Andre Blatch.
Daniels.
We have Daniels.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Right, you got Karan Butler.
Karan.
Deshaun Stevenson. Deshaun Stevenson. Like, if he was in podcasting, podcast is over.
Are we talking just all, just basketball?
Yeah, he was just trying to see who's, like, not basketball smart.
Because I'm trying to think, like... Special ed NBA team is a question asked.
I did not... Oh, special ed, like.
We can't do that, but I know some people said some wild shit back in the day.
He means on the slow side. I don't know. You got to play with them. Some people are actually basketball dumb. Yeah. But they're smart people, right? Just like different between street smarts and book smarts.
Some people might be basketball smart and just dumb on the street.
Yeah.
So I'm going to read one more comment and then one more question and we're out of here. So comment we got from Elevated Forum. Say, Steve Buckhance dagger on an Agent 03.
What's better?
What's better than that?
What?
Steve Buckhance calling a dagger on an Agent 03.
Yeah. No, okay. No, I said yes.
There is something better than that? Huh? There is something better than that?
No, there's nothing better than that.
Nothing better than that. Thank you, Dan.
When my wife says my name in the morning.
Oh, man.
On that note, that was mostly fans.
I got to deal with that.
Let's go. That was mostly fans.
Damn, y'all don't like love?
We don't love it like that.
You don't love the love like I love the love. Another great weekend here at Gills Arena. Week three of season five. NBA preseason starts tomorrow. We've got a lot of basketball coming our way.
Wait, we didn't talk about the WNBA.
A.J.
Wilson won yesterday.
A.J.
Wilson?
A.J. A.J. Not A.J.
A.J.
Wilson defeated the Fever.
We talked about Indiana, Toronto.
At least we could have talked about it. Yes.
For our own good, we try to keep Gil away from WNBA stuff if Lexi's not on the couch or Cheryl to bring balance to the floor. Yeah, we can do some Ws some other time. Shout out to the Ws.
I mean, you know.
Next time we can do Ws.
Did y'all watch any of the games?
I know. What round are they? Eureka had like 45.
Oh, they still playing.
WNBA record, if I'm not mistaken. Yeah, 45 and 43 minutes. Yeah, 45. Shout out to the Dallas Wings. A lot going on, Gil. I don't try to trouble you with it because I know you're not paying attention.
No, I was.
Angel Reeds in the second round? Come on, man.
But appreciate everybody in the chat. Before we go, make sure you hit the like button one last time before we wrap up for the week to show your love and appreciation.
