Johnny Mac shares five Halloween-themed good news stories, starting with candy reviews: Hi-Chew Mystery Mix is praised for flavors like green apple, cotton candy, and orange creamsicle (with a mystery flavor unrevealed until Halloween), while Brach’s Mellow Cream Spooky Graveyard is panned across its flavors and shapes; Kit Kat “Counts” are highlighted as a Halloween standout despite thicker chocolate, and Keebler Spooky Fudge Stripes are criticized. He then spotlights Aldi’s Halloween cheeses, including Death by Garlic cheddar, Scary Pumpkin Spice Wensleydale, and green Freaky Franken Sage Derby. The episode also promotes Los Angeles’ United Theater screening of Mario Bava’s 1961 “Hercules in the Haunted World” with live singers, orchestra, and a $10,000 costume contest, plus haunt attractions in Miami and Nebraska’s Kneeknocker Woods “Backwood Cannibals” Trail of Terror and Nana’s Corn Maze.

Hello, I'm Johnny Mac with five good news Halloween stories. Let's take a look at some of this year's Halloween candy. Some of the best, some of the worst. Apparently one of the best is the Hi-Chew Mystery Mix. Hi-Chew is one of Japan's leading candy exports to America, becoming a staple of the sweets aisle and checkout line impulse buy's.
The flavor is featured in the mystery mix pack, or green apple, cotton candy, orange creamsicle, that sounds good, and the mystery flavor. The green apple is much more sweet than tart, we're told. Cotton candy is accurately flavored, we're told. The orange creamsicle is described as nice. And mystery flavor will not be revealed until Halloween. Some Instagrammers are guessing what it's going to be. They think it's within the sweet fruit range. One of the worst rated candies apparently is Brock's Mellow Cream Spooky Graveyard. The Mellow Cream Spooky Graveyard candy comes in four different shapes and flavors. There's caramel corn in the shape of a skull, cotton candy, tombstone, marshmallow as a ghost, and a green apple flavored shaped bat.
The review I'm cribbing off says the caramel corn is like Brock's took the worst part of a candy corn and made it the whole part. The cotton candy tastes like medicine. The marshmallow felt like it gave the reviewer an immediate stomach ache and the green apple didn't come in and salvage the day. Yikes.
They were more enamored by the Kit Kat Count and Witch. We're told this belongs on the Halloween candy Mount Rushmore.
Wow.
The left Kit Kat has a vampire relief, and the right Kit Kat has a witch. But what if I'm holding it upside down? Does that mean there's only one way to hold a Kit Kat? Who knew? The chocolate is much thicker than your normal Kit Kat. It kind of hides the wafer, which is not ideal, we're told. Yet, it's on the Hall of Fame. The reviewer did not like the Keebler spooky fudge stripes. They did say the classic fudge stripes from Keebler are one of the greatest things humankind ever made. Just a perfectly calibrated chocolate cock cookie that needs to be nowhere within 10 square miles of this person when the hungries come on. But now they made it Halloween and we're told the palette orange color is not enthusiastically Halloween. It's a cookie that'll get
overshadowed and lost on a plate of other cookies. Now, while you're shopping for Halloween candy, you might find yourself at the Aldi. They have released a selection of Halloween themed cheese. You didn't think I was going to say cheese. I said cheese. This year we have the Emporium Selection Death by Garlic Cheddar Cheese. A package of Death by Garlic Black Garlic Cheddar Cheese features a vampire motif. Next up, it is the Scary Pumpkin Spice Wensleydale Cheese. I'm picturing the Monty Python sketch. Do you have any Wensleydale? Yes, we do, sir. It's a mild, crumbly, and slightly sweet cheese that hails from the UK. It is often described as having a hint of honey in its flavor profile.
Aldi added some pumpkin spice. It's also a touch of sugar added. Interesting. Next up is the Freaky Franken Sage Derby Cheese, a vivid green cheese. Could scare some customers off, but it is Halloween, so that's not the worst thing. This cheese gets its green color from the addition of pungent peppery sage. We were told that derby cheese is similar to cheddar, but slightly softer and great for melting.
Combine it with some death by garlic for an eerie grilled cheese to celebrate the season. I might have to go over there and check this out. Are you in Los Angeles? You might want to head to the United Theater on Broadway for Mario Bava's Hercules and the Haunted World. They will screen it with live before-your-ears singers and an orchestra complementing the composer's score. There's also a costume contest featuring a $ 10, 000 grand prize. That'll be on October 31st at the Halloween After Party. Second place, $ 2, 500. Third place, $ 500.
Not bad.
They are screening Hercules vs. Vampires, an evening devoted to a Hercules and the Haunted World screening. The 1961 movie features Reg Park, a former Mr. Universe, and horror legend Christopher Lee. I continue to tell you that Florida is where it's at. The Horrorland Screen Park in its seventh year has six haunted houses. They include the Honky Tonk, the Orphanage, Seven Sins, Oh, is that not enough for you?
How about four immersive scare zones, a circus of terror show, fire dancers, music, theme parks, a monster parade, the Frankenstein bar cocktail experience, and food spread across 18 acres. You'll find us at Miami's Jungle Island, 1111 Parrot Jungle Trail. Meanwhile, at Miami's Tropical Park, there's the House of Horror Haunted Carnival in its 25th year. Thrill seekers get unlimited entry to four haunted houses, including Hide and Seek Warden's Game, Camp Dead End Trails, The Abduction, and the Isla de las Muñecas. Oh, there's also food. You can get a Dracula Shish Kebab, a Monstruosa Burger, Blood Transfer Sorbet, and Vampire's Kiss Frozen Lemonade. If you can't make it to Florida and you're in Nebraska, head on over to Backwood
Cannibals at the Knee Knocker Woods. It's their 13th season, and we're told them boys are wild back in the woods. Kylie, her family's behind the Knee Knocker Woods experience, said that this year's Trail of Terrorist theme is Backwood Cannibals. You see Grandpa Grim makes his return to his shack at the head of the trail to greet visitors. And this year, he has relatives visiting from the South who are wreaking havoc and have peculiar appetites. She tells us Grandpa Grim has company in the woods, and they're getting restless. Whether you're coming for a trail of terror, Nana's Corn Maze, Monster Eats, haunted night market games, or just to hang out, we'll see ya. Nana's Corn Maze is a fun no-scare
maze that's good for the kids. Stroll through the cornfield and find your way through the twisted churns and enjoy the crisp autumn air, all without the jump scares, at nanascornmaze.com. As for the other events, you might want to be on guard. And those are your five good news Halloween stories. Have a great day.
