Johnny Mac shares five Halloween-themed stories: a pediatric dentist lists eight candies worst for kids’ teeth, emphasizing that days of post-Halloween snacking are the real problem, and naming sticky chews, sour candy, taffy/caramels, hard candy, licorice-type candies, pure sugar candy, candy corn, and chocolate with caramel/nougat. Major League Soccer shifts most Saturday night matches to Saturday afternoon or Sunday for trick-or-treating, except the Colorado Rapids. In Westland, Michigan, visitors can take guided paranormal investigations at a former psychiatric hospital, with claims of hauntings and overnight options. Hong Kong hosts three weekends of Halloween crowds mixing Western and Chinese-themed costumes, aiming to boost tourism and spending. In Massachusetts, parents protest Elm Street School canceling a Halloween parade and banning costumes in favor of a black-and-orange spirit day.

Hello, I'm Johnny Mac with five good news Halloween stories. One last time for this go around the sun. All right. A pediatric dentist says these are the eight worst Halloween candies for kids teeth. So kids, this is not good news for you. Maybe for your parents. Dr. Lucien Pino told the Today Show one night of eating candy is not as bad as the days that follow. You see, they keep snacking on that bowl full of candies for days and days and days and days. Yeah. Adults who have podcasts do that as well. All right. What are the eight worst candies for a kid's teeth, according to the dentist? Number one, sticky, chewy candy like gummy worms or now and laters. Number two, sour candy like Sour Patch Kids and Warheads. Three. Taffy and caramels, Laffy Taffy,
Werther's Originals, caramel-filled chocolates. I will personally warn you, I have what I call the $ 10, 000 rollo that ripped a cap off and I wound up having to have an implant. Is that what they call it? I had to have a whole $ 10, 000 thing done because I had a rollo at a soccer game one time. So watch out for those.
Number four, hard candy, including Jolly Ranchers and Blow Pops. Number five, licorice? Really? Twizzlers, Skittles, and Starburst? Twizzlers are bad for you? Oh, no. Six, pure sugar candy like Pixie Stix and Sweet Tarts. That makes sense. Number seven, candy corn. No one likes that anyway. And number eight, chocolate with caramel and nougat filling like Snickers, Twix, and Milky Way. Boy, what do you want us to have then? Nothing?
Good news, if you want to trick-or-treat and like Major League Soccer, they have altered this week's schedule. Usually they play on Saturday night. This week they asked the home clubs if they wanted to play a different time. All the teams except the Colorado Rapids moved their kickoff times to either Saturday afternoon or Sunday. But not the Rapids.
They're like, no, we play Saturday night. Trick-or-treat. Puh, soccer. The NHL's also playing slightly more Saturday matinees. College football and the NBA are maintaining their full primetime Saturday night schedules. Out of Westland, Michigan, it's not enough for some Halloween enthusiasts to be scared by actors dressed up in spooky get-ups.
Oh no, they want the quote-unquote real thing. So, at a former psychiatric hospital in suburban Detroit, visitors can embark on guided paranormal investigations. Justin Cox is the founder of Mishaghost Paranormal. Great name, he says. Guests that come here on our paranormal tours, they get touched, they get grabbed, handprints on clothing, whistled at. Everything that you can imagine that has happened here, we've heard it all. The hospital began as a 19th century poorhouse and operated under various names as it expanded into a complex with dozens of buildings.
By the late 1920s, it was one of the nation's largest public health facilities. Cox says in the paranormal field, we believe that trauma leaves energy, which creates hauntings. This place had a lot of tragedy, a lot of trauma, so we believe it's super haunted. Most of the buildings were razed in the 1980s, but there's one left. There, Cox and his team lead guests on tours of the upper floors, including a room with a bathtub used in hydrotherapy sessions. It is not uncommon for guests to get in the tub. Cox says, and if you think you can handle the night here, we offer that as well.
In Hong Kong, they have gotten into Halloween. We are told tens of thousands of revelers in costumes ranging from evil bartenders to Donald Trump. Back to an entertainment zone as Hong Kong lit up for Halloween celebrations, stretching over three weekends. Huang Wei was dressed up as the beloved Monkey King of Chinese mythology. The 34-year-old says, Being here gives me this real carnival vibe. It's a great way to completely let loose and release ourselves after work. I feel like the main reason for coming here is to free ourselves. The atmosphere over there mixes Western horror characters with figures from Chinese folklore and others inspired by the pandemic era. There are mock enforcers of COVID-19 curbs dressed
in white protective suits. We've now lived long enough that we're doing that as a costume. Okay, I guess the world does heal itself. Loudspeakers blared orders to report for testing. Authorities and businesses hope the longer Halloween celebrations will boost tourism, nightlife, and consumer spending in the Asian financial hub. Alan Zeman is the chairman of the Lan Kwai Fong Group, who helped introduce Halloween celebrations 40 years ago. He said Halloween, which was a Western holiday, was able to suddenly be accepted by the East now. That's what Hong Kong is all about. One country, two systems, and we can all celebrate together. And as 5 Good News Halloween Stories starts to become 5 Good News Christmas Stories, you know, and
still the regular episodes, but this one might cross both, because I think there's a Grinch at the Elm Street School in Massachusetts. You see, Charlie is six years old, and Charlie was excited to dress up as Super Mario. However, this school is not having a Halloween parade. They're having Black and Orange Spirit Day. One of the parents said the principal sent out a note in one of her newsletters saying costumes are not allowed. But the actual parade being canceled was word of mouth through the children. This apparently is expanding in Massachusetts, where parents are organizing Trunk or Treats, which is also lame names. I know that started it started in New Jersey. My kids were still that age. We had like a really bad snowstorm one
Halloween and Halloween was effectively canceled. Then, like in the middle of November, they did trunk or treat. OK, it was fine for that. It was fine for covid. But let the kids wear the costumes and get around. An online petition had already collected close to 400 signatures. A youngster named Ryan, who's in middle school, said the kindergartners now don't get to experience what we got to, which is kind of sad. because it was one of the best things about Halloween at school. Ryan is an old soul.
I love it. Middle schooler Avery said, we'd see everyone we knew going by in their cute costumes, and we'd be able to just put our hands out and high-five them, and it'd just be the best moment ever. But at the Elm School on Friday, it's Black and Orange Spirit Day. Lame. And those are your five good news stories for today.
Happy Halloween!
