The Slab That Walked: Bootprints From Nowhere on Mirabel Lake
Cold and impossible: a 12-by-18-foot, 8-inch-thick slab of ice weighing 400-600 pounds sat on Mirabel Lake’s eastern bank on April 14, 2017, with a single line of size 10 boot prints walking out of the water toward shore - but no prints walking in. How did a moved slab of ice leave one-way boot impressions that stop at the margin and vanish onto the land?
In this episode, we tell what was found that afternoon, who photographed and reported it, and which experts later described the slab as introduced rather than naturally formed - and we follow the unanswered trail from a gated fire road to a cabin nearby. What happened on the night of April 13 that left engine noise, no landward tracks, and a case closed in eight pages?
Date: April 14, 2017
Location: Mirabel Lake, northeast corner, Crystal Cox trail
Person: Louise Peterman
Investigator: Deputy Kevin Prater
Expert: Bruce Selke
