I like that word want, as I'm want to do.
As I'm want to do, as one. Yeah, it feels very judgy. It's judgy.
Yeah, it is.
But there's something about it that you're like, as one is want to do. It sort of means like you're just doing whatever you want, I guess.
Yeah.
That's how I take it.
Whatever you want to do.
Yeah, as one is want to do. Yeah, it's sort of like you can't help it.
Just that's how it is.
Yeah.
As one is wont to do. Oh, yes. Well, welcome everyone.
To this week's pre-show, Poppycock, as we are wont to do.
I love it.
God.
I love it. Are you packed yet? We're going, I'm going to see you tomorrow. No. Oh, you're not packed? I've been packing all day.
No, Shannon has to bring over my clothes tonight.
Oh, okay. I don't have my clothes here.
I'll pack, yeah.
Yeah, but literally, I just, Shannon packs most of my, like, all my little looks, puts everything together in a garment bag. I just fold that up and put it in a bag. All I have to worry about is, like, you know, stuff to sleep in and underwear.
Yeah. Yeah, I was looking at, so Jodi and I are going to Detroit. Oh, yeah, yeah, there we go. We should fill people in. We were like, yeah, anyway. We're going to Detroit tomorrow, as of this recording, to see our dear friend Dave and Melissa.
Yay!
And see their new house. Oh, I can't wait.
Neither Joey and I have seen.
Their new house yet, so I'm very excited about that. Dave built this house from the ground up. Yeah. Himself. He got like his contractor's license or something. He did. Yeah, he did. Yeah, he did great.
I just remember him happy as a little clam sending his videos from his heated backhoe or whatever in the winter.
He went to his tractor. Yeah, he was great. He's like a farmer now.
But yeah, that'll be fun.
I'm looking forward to it. We're not on the same flight out there though, are we?
No.
No, no.
Same flight back. Same flight back though, so that'll be good. Oh, great. We're going to have a great weekend just hanging out on the lake. It's going to be so fun.
And I love what they're doing it for, for the Coney, for like arts education.
So great. Oh, it's great.
And I'm very excited.
There's going to be some great comedians there, but I am excited to meet Amber Ruffin.
I think she's hilarious.
Yeah. Yeah. Cool. Yeah. I was reading the little script that they sent us yesterday, the rundown, the rundown of the show. And, um, Cause I got, I'm like, I thought we're going to the Detroit opera house. So I'm going to wear like this beautiful gown and everything.
No, I'm wearing jeans.
I'm wearing jeans and a blazer and like a, but like, like, and cute little heels and whatever. And like, you know, jewelry, but yeah, I'm not going, not a dressy.
Not dressy. Well, I'm not either anymore. Cause I saw in the script, I'm doing like a hot dog making contest. Wait, what? Where did you see that? I didn't see that. You gotta read the script. I read the script. I didn't see the hot dog. I don't think you're in the hot dog segment. It's just, I think it's just me.
Yeah, because I read it and I was like, oh, it's just the one bit that I see.
That I'm doing.
Oh, yeah. There's the full house bit that we're all doing.
Right, I see that, but I didn't see me involved in anything else.
They were like, hey, she's a sucker. Let's put her into the hot dog contest.
You know, the hot dog cart.
Incident is your spirit animal so maybe they were like we know that she is deeply drawn to hot dog carts and they mean a lot to her so that was i told them really surprise you're welcome yeah.
You're the reason thanks a lot you're welcome um yeah what are you doing from what i read it's so they bring out three guys to do the hot dog you have to make a coney hot dog okay right right it's like chopped onions yeah yeah yeah coney dog and mustard yeah coney dog So it's a hot dog making contest, but then the twist, this won't air until afterwards, so I'm not giving anything away. The twist is that they bring out three girls, and then, so I'm going to be Dave's arms. So Dave is going to be one of the guys, and I'm going to be his arms.
Got it, got it, got it. Because he has his arms behind his back. Didn't we do.
Something like that on Full House at one point?
I'm sure we did.
I'm sure we did. We're like making a, I think.
I've done this before with something where you have to do something with someone else's arms.
Yeah, we did do that on Fuller.
Yeah, we did.
I don't remember what it was, but I feel like you and I did something like that, which I shouldn't say. I shouldn't even bring myself up because I'm going to get myself involved in this hot dog nonsense.
You volunteered to do something messy.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. No, no, I did not.
No, no, I can't do that. So, I mean, whatever. Also, did you get a haircut? I did, yes. And I went a little darker, too. I love it.
I went a little shorter. I thought you had it pulled back, and then I'm like, no, no.
No, no. It looks so cute. I cut off a ton. Thank you. It's so much fresher and lighter.
Oh, I love it.
You went shorter.
I went longer.
Yes, and I went a little darker. Me, too. I'm just back in my natural hair color because I'm lazy. that's kind of what I'm trending towards because I've always got dark roots and so I thought well I might as well just go darker and yeah not have to get my hair done as often.
Well you look adorable you're gonna look so great uh in that hot dog uh making contest yeah it's a shame that you're going to only be the arms and you'll be standing behind Dave because your head won't be seen.
But that's glad I got my hair done yeah exactly oh well But I'm excited to hang out with you and Dave and Mel all weekend. I know, I can't wait.
I can't wait.
And it's going to be a beautiful time of year up there.
Fall will be nice.
Crisp.
It's going to be great. Yeah. It's going to be crisp.
Yeah.
And then we're going to come back here and I think it's supposed to be in like the mid-90s when we get back.
Well. How's life otherwise? Um, it's fine. It's fine. Besides, you know, I was telling you before we started, Felicity has mono. So hello, welcome to college.
Yeah, welcome to college and communicable diseases.
Right. Welcome to dorm life. She's miserable.
She's home.
She's been home all week.
Yeah.
I don't know when she can go back because she still feels like crap. Yeah, it lasts for a while. It lasts for a while. So yeah, she's definitely out this week, probably parts of next week, too. They said as long as she doesn't have a fever, once she's feeling better, she can go back. But she can't, like no sharing drinks or utensils until after Halloween. That's how long she's contagious. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
You should get her a little bubble or something, some sort of a helmet.
I know.
Like a plastic bubble helmet. That's what I'm saying. At least it's not airborne. Like I was wearing a mask all week, but then the doctor was like, no, it's not airborne. It's not like an air. You can't get it in the air. You have to touch something. It's bodily fluids. So we're just like, okay, Felicity's using like plastic utensils this week. Oh, Lord. Paper plates. And we're just rolling with it. So I know she's miserable. I know. What?
She's in here.
Oh, there's patient zero.
I don't want everyone thinking.
I'm walking around.
Hi.
Hi, Felicity. Come say hi. Come join us for the pre-show poppycock.
Just don't put your mouth too close to your mom's microphone.
Right, don't push it.
Don't touch her microphone.
Just say hi. Do not tell them. I just said. Do not tell them I have mono. Too late. It's too late for you.
Yeah, no, too late.
We've already shared.
Yeah.
We can cut it out if you want.
I'm going to call your editors myself.
She's going to call Manny herself.
She's going to call Manny.
Okay.
I don't hear what she's saying.
It just sounds like some sort of grumpy old man ranting in the background.
They only care about themselves.
That we only care about themselves and that you have mono and we.
Don't care about you.
Me!
Everyone's only thinking of themselves and not thinking of the one who actually does have mono.
I'm thinking about you.
That's why I'm talking about you on our podcast right now, Felicity. I'm thinking about the fact that Felicity has mono. I'm thinking about it. Everyone now is thinking about it.
We're all thinking.
Manny's thinking about it.
Yeah.
Jenny's thinking about it.
I love you, dear daughter. Take your virus elsewhere.
What do they know about my breakup?
They don't know. I'm working. I know you don't know this, but I'm working. So I need you to go away if you're not going to be part of this podcast. You can't just yell for the next two hours.
It might sound like we're just yammering on, but this.
Is professional, damn it, Felicity.
We're doing a job here.
Can you tell?
So professional in your jammy shorts.
Okay, goodbye.
Goodbye.
I'm sorry.
I was doing a podcast here yesterday. I won't tell them you have mono and you haven't just yelled it 50 times. But I might.
I might.
She didn't tell me.
She told you. I wasn't in the room. People know you're not hoeing around. She wants everyone to know she's not hoeing around. Like, she got it from sharing drinks with all of her girlfriends in a room. Nobody said that. Nobody thinks you're hoeing around.
I do now.
Okay, can we talk about this after I podcast? Jodi's saying goodbye and Manny and Ginny and all the fanaritos. Oh, Lord. What is it about them? Go out of here. I don't have a lock on my office.
They don't talk to you unless you're doing something. She hasn't talked to me all week. So now it's like, oh, now I'm going to come talk to you. And I'm going to, yeah, I'm going to take up. I'm going to get my own. time on your show segment.
Yeah yeah she's this is the pre-show poppycock right here it's starting felicity felicity felicity and her mono she's cranky though as you can see but you know what i give her a pass because that was.
Funny i thought she was being funny is that her cranky That's her cranky, yeah.
Oh, I thought she was joking. No, no, she's like, ah! Sorry, Felicity.
Yeah, I guess, yeah, cranky in my house looks way different.
Yeah.
It's a lot a lot more angry.
Yeah oh my goodness all right well that was for someone that didn't want to draw attention to herself she sure drew.
Attention to she wanted to draw attention to herself she knows she did she knows it and she can be mad at me that's fine.
That's sorry felicity We'll blame it on Joey.
Yeah, blame it on me.
That's okay. Well, I feel bad that she's so sick, though. That's no fun. I know. I'm leaving this weekend, so now I have to import her and all of her soft foods to her dad's house and all the medicine, like all of the things. Oh, why does she need soft foods? Is there a teeth falling out? Because her throat hurts so bad that she can't. I can hear it in her voice. Yeah, the throat. Yeah.
Aw.
Yeah. So and so she's just taking Motrin because the swelling is so bad. Yeah.
It's hard to breathe.
Yeah. Motrin and eating mashed potatoes and gogurts and shakes. Yeah. Yeah. Anyways, now that I've just, you know, spread her medical diagnosis.
I know, right?
HIPAA be damned. Yeah. We interrupt this pre-show poppycock with a quick note from Andrea. Felicity has since listened to a preview of this episode, and she gave me permission to share her mono story. So, rest assured, fanaritos, I have her blessing to leave this in the final edit.
Oh, man.
We could get into the show. I mean, I don't know. We could, but why? Why get into the show?
I mean.
How has your medicals been? You know, I know. That's usually what we talk about here.
I don't know.
Okay. You know, I had a headache this week, but overall, it's been okay. It's been okay.
I messed up my quad, though.
My right quad.
It was sore last week, and I'm not even kidding. Monday morning, I took a step down the stairs and it was like my quad just went nope and I yeah so I went to Pilates today and I worked out a little this week but like mostly just stretched it and stuff but uh that's been my yeah how did you how did you I heard it I I don't know I did something probably no no I was just working out probably hard and then didn't stretch properly afterwards I don't see it the age we are gotta stretch before.
And after yeah you have to yeah no.
It felt like like a rubber band that was like pulled too tight.
Oh you're tight yeah get a little massage in there just i.
Did i get it yeah it's just you know old people stop what is wrong with me today i am just cursing everywhere i've lost let it out variety i blame felicity.
And her mom let's play mono and felicity.
I believe i have mono i'm not in my right mind i mean i know but now it's real bad.
Welcome back to How Rude Jan Rinos. I'm Andrea Barber.
Oh, and I'm Jodi Sweetin without a coffee to sip on at an inopportune moment.
Is that the problem? Do we need to pause and get some coffee.
And come back?
No, that's right. I'm going to be after this.
Okay.
Okay, we will just, we will go forth.
Drink water.
True. Me too. Well, today we're discussing season seven, episode 15. The Test. It originally aired January 11th, 1994. We're in 1994.
1994.
That's when I graduated from high school in 1994. This is the year. This is the year. That's why your characters are doing the SAT thing. That's why I'm doing the SATs.
Yeah, that's right.
It all tracks. It's funny how that happens. Well, I just keep thinking, oh, we're still in like early, early 90s. But no, we're approaching the end of the series. We are smack dab right in the middle of it now. Yeah. Yeah. This is crazy.
Mid 90s.
So the episode goes a little something like this. DJ stresses out over taking the SATs despite her family's reassurances that it's just a test.
I feel like Danny would also be stressing out over the SATs.
He was way too calm in this. Well, I mean, I know he was trying to calm her down, but.
Oh speaking of things that aren't calm this goes back to pre-show poppycock.
But let's go back to the cup joel wick.
Says love and says hello i went to lunch.
That's right you had lunch with him i had lunch with.
Him and mark warren is sending me a script of a play that he wrote that joel is yeah so anyway so i've talked to mark too so that's so nice give them they both send their.
Love Oh, that's awesome. That's so great. Oh, Joel didn't direct this one. No, he didn't.
But I was like, calm directing. Oh, not calm directing.
Joel.
Yeah, right.
Could you get a word in at the lunch or did Joel just talk to you?
He's 85 and killing it, man.
He is just still on fire. Yeah, of course. Would expect nothing less.
Ten miles a day.
Are you kidding me? He's like, I got to walk. Got to keep moving.
I'm like, I bet you do.
That's the that's the secret to longevity is walk 10 miles a day. I don't.
And and yeah.
And just be just be a neurotic, five foot tall, whirling dervish.
Of, you know, angry little man. And I guess.
Yeah. You know, that's the secret to longevity. You heard it here first. Yeah.
Sorry.
I didn't mean to distract us any more than we already were.
But this is this is how I think the Paneritos know by now. This is how we roll.
Oh, yeah.
Well, this episode was not directed by Jules Wick. It was directed by John Tracy and it was written by Dan Chasen and Linda Lane. Two names I do not recognize.
I was like, I've never heard of those people.
No idea who they must have been guest writers that week. We got some great guest stars this week. We have the Vanna White. Oh, my Lord. Vanna White and Mrs. Moffat. Yep. You best know her as the longtime co-host of Wheel of Fortune, where she has been revealing letters since 1982. Oh, my God.
That's my entire life.
That's your entire life. That's my entire life. Amazing. Amazing. Yeah. Talk about a career. She got a.
Gig spinning letters for my entire life.
Yep. For over 40 years. That's amazing. That is goals right there.
Goals.
That's wild. Sometimes why, too.
In addition to... And that's why gold.
Okay.
In addition to Full House, she also made appearances on Married with Children, The King of Queens, and Just Shoot Me.
But always as Vanna White, right?
Always as Vanna White.
Right, because you couldn't put her as something else.
You'd be like, but that's Vanna White.
But that's Vanna White, right.
Although she is here, Mrs.
Moffat.
True, true. But I feel like the theme song just follows her wherever she goes. She goes in the market. People must say the same shit about us.
You know what I mean?
Do you think that the.
Full House theme song just plays whenever they walk into a room?
And it does, weirdly enough.
It does. The violins, yeah. I'm about to have a violin moment with Felicity after this.
Oh, yeah. For sure.
Next, we have Beverly Archer playing Mrs. Twitchell.
So good.
You best know her as Iola Boylan. on Mama's Family. Yes. Or Gunnery Sergeant Alva Bricker on Major Dad. Ah, yes.
That's what I remember her from.
I remember her. She looks familiar.
I was friends with the little girl that was on Major Dad. Oh my God, I can't remember her name right now, but yeah.
Oh, how cool. Okay. nice she was great like she was perfect when i forgot she did this and i was like oh i love that i've seen her as a character actor in a bunch of things i'm like i love her yeah oh and i definitely remember from mama's family too yeah yeah oh she's iconic and she's the perfect uh scary proctor in a nightmare so yeah absolutely uh we got a producer's note coming in here casey cooper mcgillis is that your.
Friend robin cooper mcgillis casey cooper mcgillis who are these people.
Are these your friends who the girl you're friends with?
These are the major cat dad kids.
Oh, got it.
Okay.
That doesn't ring a bell. So that's not.
It might.
You know what? Here's the thing.
The bells ring sometimes and sometimes they don't. But it doesn't mean that... Chelsea, there we go.
Hertford.
Oh, okay.
We found it. Because it's Whit's sister. What?
Whit Hertford's sister.
Yes, that's why. Is Chelsea Hertford? Yes. The kid on Major Dad? No way. That's so cool.
That's why I remember.
Okay.
I'm like, wait, I know the sister.
And I'm like, and I know there's a connection to us somehow.
That's right. There you go.
It's a small.
Very small world. And the Hertford's are a very talented family. Yes.
He just did an off-Broadway show that got incredible reviews.
So go win. He just sent me a bunch of the reviews and stuff. It was awesome. Yeah. I love him. He's the best.
Okay.
So Beverly Archer, we're excited that she's on the show this week. And last but certainly not least, we have Jacob Kenner. As boy student, he doesn't get a name. Yeah, he might be least, Ben, if he doesn't get a name.
Sorry, nothing personal, Jacob.
But it's, I think in this, yeah, last, but maybe a little bit least because you didn't have them as much.
True. But it's okay. But you were a great boy student. He was a great boy student.
I believed you were a boy.
I believed you were a student. I was with you the whole ride.
Oh, yeah.
He was very, very authentic as a boy student. Yes. Absolutely.
It's almost like he had done it.
Yeah.
At least he got a credit, you know? He doesn't get a name, but he gets a credit.
Right.
Does he have any other credits?
He does. Oh, my God. You may know him as one of the bullies in the 1992 family comedy Beethoven. Okay. And he's also appeared in the films Motorama and Heart and Souls.
Okay.
So, I don't know.
Okay. Great.
Great. He was a great, squeaky, high-pitched boy in this episode. Loved it.
Okay.
We start with the teaser in the living room. Michelle and the twins are dressed like they're about to start their shift at the hot dog on a stick.
Oh my, right?
Get them a hat with a little, yeah, a little top cone hat thing.
I wanted a corn dog so bad.
And a lemonade. I need to borrow that outfit for my hot dog skit on the cone stage this weekend. That's what you should wear. That's what Michael said too. I said, no.
I'm texting Mel right now.
And I'm saying, Mel, I need you to hunt down a hot dog on a stick costume ASAP.
Well, I'm going to be behind Dave. So Dave really needs to wear the hot dog.
On a stick costume.
Even better. Regardless, we need a hot dog on a stick costume. I don't care who wears it. We need it. I went from ball gown to jumpsuit. And now I'm going to be in a downgraded suit.
I think you should wear all of it.
I think wear the hot dog on a stick thing under the ball gown and do like a, like a pull away.
You know what I mean?
Like, like, like, like rip away pants sort of thing, but just, yeah, yeah.
A rip away ball gown. And it's, yes. Oh God.
That's actually great.
You know what?
I've got some work to do before tomorrow.
Yeah, yeah.
I've got some things. I'll be back. We're four words into the recap.
Yeah. 20 minutes later. I'm sorry, everyone. I'm sorry.
Well, yeah.
Okay. I'm going to shut up now.
You go. Keep reading. God, get us through. It's me too. Literally just sent us a time. Just a clock. Okay. Producers are now using emojis to communicate with us. Hurry up, girls.
Okay.
Michelle and the twins sneak into the living room where Joey is listening to his walkman.
A walkman. I love it.
His eyes are closed and there's a brownie plate on his lap. The twins naturally want a brownie. So Michelle sneaks to the couch and invites the boys along. They replace the brownie plate with a book on the count of three. Kind of like the Indiana Jones swap.
I was going to say, it's very Indiana Jones.
Yeah, yeah.
I was expecting a giant ball to run down the stairs.
That wouldn't be out of the ordinary for the Tanners. That's quite possible in full house, yeah. But Joey catches hold of Michelle's overalls. Oops, she says, busted. Okay, you little brownie nabber, Joey remarks, hand over the baked goods. But it's too late. The twins have already eaten the brownies on the plate and they have chocolate all over their faces to prove it. One serves the other the last bite. He says, thank you. And the other says, you're welcome. That was so cute. They're so cute. They're so polite. Yeah, it was adorable. And Joey and Michelle shrug, and we're out of that scene. Next, we're in the kitchen.
Joey and Jesse are chatting it up at the table. Jesse notices that the stamp on a piece of mail has not gone through the machine at the post office. It hasn't been canceled, so he can use it again. He's excited for the 29 cent freebie.
29 stamps now.
87 cents.
82.
What are we up to? I looked it up.
82.
A U.S. Forever stamp is 82 cents. Yes, it's almost a dollar now. I was kidding. I didn't think we were almost at a dollar.
No.
I thought we were in the 50s. 82 cents? I thought we were in the 50s too. I thought we were like at 55. Right? Because it's a Forever stamp now, so you don't know what you're paying. You're just like, whatever. 82 cents. My God.
82 cents.
I'm an old woman.
Okay, sorry. Okay. But here you go, 30-something years later, craziness. Then DJ and Kimmy walk in, and Joey expresses concern that Jesse could end up on an episode of America's Most Wanted. He's trying to cheat the United States Postal Service. Jesse disagrees. He is not cheating, but Joey thinks it's stealing.
Where did this moral compass come from? I don't know where Joey is being so... Yeah. We got to set up for the day later.
It's fine.
He's very honest.
Yeah, forget it. They're fine.
Jesse gives up and he puts the stamp on Joey's forehead. DJ announces she has to go upstairs and study for her SATs. They're tomorrow. She's concerned that as this is the test that determines if she will go to college, she must nail it if she wants to get into Stanford. Jesse asks Timmy if she plans to go to clown college.
And Kimmy is not phased by this. She responds that she does have an in. Her Uncle Gibbo is the dean. Gibbo Gibbler? Gibbo Gibbler. Uncle Gibbo Gibbler. Yeah, yeah. I like it. So the girls go upstairs and Joey shows off his potato that he has just peeled to look like Joe Pesci. Jesse agrees that that's funny. And then Joey imitates Joe Pesci. And Jesse suggests that he has one word for Joey.
Dating. I mean.
Joey continues chatting with the potato in Pesci language. Well, you know, this was a stretch, but it's full house. I mean, poor, they got Dave talking to potatoes.
I know.
They don't know what to do with Joey. Right. He's talking to potatoes.
He's literally talking to vegetables.
Root vegetables at that. He doesn't have a girlfriend, so that, yeah, he has to make friends with the potatoes.
I am.
So bad today. It's because we're recording in the afternoon and not in the mornings. Yeah, it's because I haven't had my coffee.
I know, look, I got an all caps Jody.
We're getting reprimanded in the notes. Next, we're in DJ's room. Kimmy is watching Wheel of Fortune while DJ tries to study for the SATs. Love Wheel of Fortune. Yeah, it's so good. DJ turns off the TV and says, do you mind? I'm trying to study. Kimmy says, we can learn a lot from Vanna. She knows where every letter on that board is. DJ explains that if she's going to get into Stanford, she's going to need to raise her practice test score by 150 points. I remember. Were you stressed about the SATs? You remember that stress of SATs?
Yeah, and now it doesn't matter.
Right. Is that even a thing anymore?
No.
They got rid of them around COVID and now they're starting to bring them back, but they're optional.
But there's something else that they do at junior year.
That's like some sort of another test that they, I don't know.
But yeah, I remember, oh, I went at it.
SAT tutor that I would go to and I took the practice one and I seem to remember I took the junior year and then I retook it but I seem to remember it being it was like the day after prom it was like the Saturday like a day after prom or something and I just remember like half the people probably myself included.
Being like oh my god my head oh my god my head like why do I have to take the SATs oh no terrible time yeah Yeah. Oh, dear. Well, you know. But yeah. But 150 points is a lot. That's a big. That's a lot. That's a big swing. I was stressed out about the SATs. And so Scott said, oh, I have a great tutor for you. So I was like, OK.
So I signed up with this tutor. And my score, you know, went up a little bit, but it still wasn't good enough to get into Stanford. So I did not get into Stanford. Well, you know, look, Mr.
Harvard and his.
I know.
He's so dang smart. It's Scott. It's not the tutor that he had. It's Scott. He's just that smart. Maybe you should have hired Scott as your tutor. I really should have. If he ever gives up.
The writing thing on incredibly successful shows like Paradise, he should become an SAT tutor.
He should. If he ever stops being nominated for Emmys, he should definitely consider a career in SAT tutoring. Absolutely. Next, Michelle and the twins walk in. And she announces safety ranger and deputies coming through. She explains that it's safety week at school and her deputies are helping her look for violations.
Well, fire code. First of all, you got too many damn people in this house.
Right.
This reminded me of didn't we already do this before the polite police? Yeah. I mean, similar, but different. Yeah. She likes ordering people around and handing out violations.
Haven't we determined this? We know this is Michelle's.
This is her. She's in her sweet spot. This is where she thrives. Yeah, she thrives. After a look around, Michelle blows her whistles and calls out a violation. Kimmy's jacket is hanging over the lampshade.
I mean, that is a bit obnoxious.
Well, yeah, I know. She's on a mission. She's on a mission to get somebody a violation, whether it's valid or not. It is dangerous. So she says clothes on lamps can cause a fire. And she asks the twins to do their duty and give her a ticket. DJ says she doesn't have time for this. Michelle disagrees. There's always time for safety. And DJ says, for your own safety, get out. You know, this is very Danny Tanner coded.
So yeah, this is Michelle. The Danny Tanner gene is activated. And she's like, you know, she wants to be by the rules.
Yes, fastidious in her rule following.
Wow. You're like an SAT vocab person. You've got all the vocabulary words today. SAT, English vocab, all that? Killed. Math? Shocked. Sucked. Yeah, yeah. That was the part that I was like, ugh. Next in the living room, Becky and Danny are talking about where their next live shot will be. They disagree. DJ and Kimmy come downstairs and Danny asks for DJ's opinion.
DJ suggests they could do it about a high school junior who flunked her sats and ends up as a pathetic drain on society he says too late deej my brother garth already sold his life story to hard copy Oh, remember hard copy? Yeah. And we passed it off as news. And we were like, oh, yeah, it was. It's like it was like the TMZ.
It was.
Yeah, for sure. Worst. Yeah. Sleaziness galore. Stephanie comes downstairs with news. And I thought the news was that you're almost as tall as Candace now. Like you're so tall.
I mean, you right next to her.
Well, I'm.
Average height.
And Candace is petite.
Let's be fair. Yeah, yeah.
Everyone always thinks I'm so giant.
And then they meet me and they go, you're not that tall.
And I'm like, I work with very tiny humans.
Tiny little people. Yeah, that's true. You're getting there, though. You're about to cross, to be taller than both me and Candace. So DJ really needs to go back to studying, but Stephanie urges her to stay. My French teacher says I have an ear for languages. Ooh. Dani asks if she can say something in French. So she says, la fromage est sous le nez. There's cheese on my nose.
And that was not at all dubbed in at the end. Like you could, I feel like it was.
Oh, you said dubbed? Not dubbed.
It's me saying it, but I think it was, I think it's looped because it was like suddenly slightly louder.
And I was like, oh, yeah. You're like, okay, that's hysterical. I didn't notice, but that makes sense. Maybe you said something offensive. I probably said, yeah, right, yeah. So Jesse and Joey come in to announce dinner. Joey says, I think you'll like it. It's something I whipped up with a little meatloaf helper. Jesse raises his hand. That would be me. DJ is just going to go take some tea.
She is so nervous she can't even chew. Danny asks everyone except DJ to come in and close the door. He's worried about DJ and the test tomorrow. Becky agrees that she's never seen DJ this nervous. It reminds Danny of when he got over-anxious for a track meet. Steph asks what happened, and he says he ran the fastest sprint of his career. Jesse wants to know what's wrong with that. Danny says, well, he was supposed to be doing the high jump. Danny suggests that they downplay the whole thing and she'll do much better. They all agree.
If it comes up, they'll just say, it's no big deal. It's just a test. And Danny makes them repeat it in unison as he does.
I just feel like Danny would be way more uptight about this. I feel like Danny would be the one driving DJ nuts, like following her around with flashcards and like annoying things.
That's true. And making her nervous with his nervousness. Right, right. You're right. That feels more true to character. That does feel more true to character.
Well, let's go back and rewrite it, and then we'll come back and finish this.
Let's not reshoot that. Right, I'll just go back. We'll just do that real quick. In the kitchen, Dani invites DJ again to eat with the family, and she says she really can't. Joey entices her by showing the meatloaf and potatoes that he made. DJ thinks she's really losing it. One of the potatoes looks like Joe Pesci. Joey gloats to Jesse. See, I told you, smart aleck, wax bean head.
John is laughing at Dave this whole time. We are breaking. DJ wants to go upstairs and study so she can go to Stanford. And in unison, the family says, it's just a test. DJ asks if they rehearsed that and they all deny it. Then Steve comes in carrying a bunch of CDs and reports that listening to Mozart can raise your IQ by 10 points. Jesse says she doesn't need CDs.
It's no big deal.
When DJ interrupts to say, it's just a test. And Jesse says, actually, it's simply an examination. The doorbell rings and DJ goes to get it. At the front door, a neighbor with an adorable mini poodle. Right.
I was like, oh, Andrew's going to be excited about the poodle.
It's so cute. It had little socks and little bows in the hair. I was just loving it. So the neighbor comes in with the poodle and accuses him of barking at her Anastasia.
Yeah.
And Steve jumps up from the couch and he swears that he doesn't even know an Anastasia. He thinks the neighbor meant him. But the neighbor was talking about Comet, that devil dog, she calls him. She points at Comet, who's quietly laying on the floor in front of the couch like the good boy that he is. The neighbor goes on to say that every time they walk by, her dog gets scared by his barking. DJ thinks she must be mistaken because hers is the kindest, gentlest, most harmless dog in the world. He wears sunglasses, for God's sakes. Right. Yeah.
This kid's got to be mean.
He wears outfits. He's a golden. Yeah. They don't have a mean bone in their body. But the neighbor thinks that the barking is ruining the neighborhood, and DJ barks back, look, lady, nobody in this family barks. The neighbor leaves after telling her dog where Comet gets it. Steve suggests that DJ calm down, but she says the test is driving her crazy.
Steve says he'll still love her, even if she only gets her name right. DJ says she might write it on her hand, just in case. Later that night, in DJ's bedroom, DJ is asleep on her bed with all of her study guides spread around her. Michelle whistles in her ear and suggests that sleeping too close to a pencil is a safety violation. DJ tells her that she has a test tomorrow morning. Michelle says it is tomorrow morning.
DJ looks at the clock. It's 7.55 a.m. DJ's going to be late for her SATs. Oh, no. We cut to the school. The proctor happens to be the neighbor with the poodle. DJ asks if she's giving the test. And she replies, life's funny, isn't it? As she was walking in, DJ overheard that there are changes on the test and asks for these changes to be repeated. The teacher suggests that if she had been there on time, she would have heard them and then reminds her that her entire future rests on this test. Kimmy alerts DJ to the fact that she is still wearing her bunny slippers.
DJ is completely thrown by having overslept. She asks Kimmy what the changes are on the test. But the teacher interrupts and tells them to take out their number four pencils. DJ's confused. Shouldn't they have number two pencils? Kimmy says, wake up and smell the changes and hands her a number four pencil. Is there a number four pencil? Is there a number four? I don't know. There probably isn't a number two.
I think the difference is the the lead, like the hardness of the lead.
And I think like different ones.
I think it's more like like like the sketch.
Pencils and all that.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
But and also no, but I think it's this I think it's this lead, the softness or hardness of the lead.
Oh, OK. So I could be totally wrong. I might be making things up. Well, I don't know. I've only used number two pencils exclusively. I'm very loyal like that. I think the other ones may be for drawing or something. You know what I mean?
Like sort of drafting pencils or something.
I don't know.
Yeah, let's go with that. Look at me just making things up.
I don't know.
That's great. It's Android and Wikipedia. That's what it is now. So DJ begins to write her name on the answer sheet. The pencil breaks. So she tries to sharpen it on the end of her desk. And when that doesn't work, she tries to sharpen it on her teeth. It's time to work on the math section. DJ reaches for her calculator, but it's not in her backpack. Joey runs in with a large bag. The proctor tells him they're in the middle of a test, but Joey says it's an emergency.
He explains to DJ that she dropped her calculator on the stairs, but he stepped on it. So instead, he brought her this and then he dropped something with a loud thud on the desk.
This was the moment when I went, I think this is a dream.
Yeah.
Because I was, up until this moment, I was like, full house moment. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Right. What's so odd about the family following DJ to her exam and being over-involved?
That wasn't the odd part.
The odd part was the device. The device, right. That was where I.
Went, oh, no.
Okay. So it's an old-fashioned adding machine with keys and receipt paper.
My dad had one, not one like that, but he had one of those adding machines. I used to just punch numbers with the little receipt paper and stuff.
Oh, yeah. Very satisfying.
I can still hear it to this day, like him typing on it.
Oh, that would be, yeah, very satisfactory listening to them. The addition key doesn't work, and I'm sure that won't affect DJ's score at all. The teacher kicks Joey out, but before he leaves, he offers her a potato that looks like Joe Pesci and makes the joke. Did somebody drop a house on your sister? And then he taunts her by imitating the cowardly lion as he leaves. That was a good one. I totally believed that Joey would do that. Right.
None of this is nightmarish. None of this is, no.
No, this is just a Tuesday for the tanners. Like, you know, like we're going to be over involved and just barge in places where we're not welcome and make ourselves at home. That's what they do. Next, Uncle Jesse walks in and the proctor exclaims, do what you want with me, but don't hurt the children, but do what you want with me. Jesse explains that his niece forgot to eat breakfast and he's brought her a breakfast burrito.
The proctor tries to kick him out. No food is allowed. He barges by and tries to give it to her anyway, beginning a monologue about how beautiful DJ was as a baby. He rocked her in his arms and begs her to let him give her the burrito. DJ interjects, but Jessie says, pipe down, I'm on a roll. The proctor finally acquiesces. Fine, give her the burrito. Jessie gives DJ the burrito with a wink. and then sneaks the SAT test answers from off the proctor's desk as she has her back turned, opening a window. DJ then hears Jessie testing. One, two, three.
Can you hear me? It turns out the burrito is a walkie-talkie.
Again, also things that could happen actually on this show.
Very sitcom. I was like, this is, yeah. We're in sitcom land. You buy it.
It was such a good reveal of the antenna. She pulled it out. It was hilarious.
It was a really good bit.
I remember they were trying to like, how do we get a burrito to become a walkie talkies? Like it's impossible. So they finally were like, let's just do the antenna. Like I'm trying to make a walkie talkie out of the burrito. So I thought it was brilliant. Just very funny. Right out of the paper. uh so jesse tells her that he's got the answer book and he's gonna help her the answer to number one is b the teacher says i heard that close your booklet you're out of here dj defends herself i had nothing to do with it she's not even a breakfast burrito type of girl she likes waffles i want a burrito really It depends on, yeah, I guess, yeah, I like burritos. You get a little more protein in there. You love a burrito. California burrito?
Are you kidding?
With the french fries in it?
Oh, I've never had that.
That's a California burrito. A California burrito, you put french fries in the burrito.
Oh, I was expecting avocado. No, it's not avocado, it's fries.
No, it's french fries and it's delicious.
Wow, that's like the Primanti's in Pittsburgh, how they put fries in their sandwich. Yeah. That's what makes everything better. It does.
Excellent.
So the proctor claims it was a man's voice, and she goes to the student behind DJ, who has a high-pitched voice, and kicks him out. You can forget about college, squeaky. Jesse's voice continues through the walkie-talkie. The answer to number two is D, and you see the whole class writing it down. Then you hear Joey say, Jess, you're cheating.
It all started with that stolen stamp. But Jesse insists he's only giving hints. DJ tries to hide the sounds, but Jessie goes on. Hint on number three. A. DJ puts the burrito walkie in her backpack, but the sounds of Joey and Jessie are still evident. You can hear them. They just muffled. They just put their hands in front of their mouths. It's so bad. It's great. Yeah. You're like, uh-huh.
Again, absolutely believable.
DJ's had enough. She takes the whole backpack and just throws it out the window.
Bye.
Yeah, done. Just then, the proctor returns and tells the room to put their pencils down. It's now time for section two, speed Latin. DJ's confused. Speed Latin? She doesn't even know slow Latin. Then Stephanie joins the class, dressed as a French person.
What am I doing here?
To any of our French fans out there, I apologize for this horrific.
Impression of French people.
It was actually kind of good and funny, yeah.
You have a little mustache and a beret.
Yeah, little boat, little thing on my little neckerchief.
Yeah. Oh, you were selling it. You were selling it. I'm just saying. Bonjour, she says. I am Pierre. Pierre. Pierre. You have to go all out. The joke won't work. Exactly. If you half-ass it, it looks stupid. Right.
This was silly and fun.
I would still do this now.
I'm like Lumiere from... That's exactly where I got it. It was Lumiere from Beauty and the Beast. I was like, I know French accents. I've seen that cartoon.
I'm fluent in French accents. I got it. Yeah. Um, so Steph, speaking in a French accent, says, I heard there was trouble with a wobbly chair. There it is. I'll have it fixed before you can say Chevrolet coupe. Coupe.
Coupe.
Coupe. DJ asks why Steph is there, and she tells her she's there to help because she has an ear for languages. DJ asks how her speed Latin is. Steph answers, su carnivorous mortis, your dead meat. As they're talking, Steph unscrews the desk and the chair falls forward. Do you remember how long this took to get it just right so that Candace wasn't too far forward? This was a hard joke to make work.
Physical bits that you have to rely on furniture or props to make work are always a nightmare.
Always a nightmare. Yes, I always feel bad for the prop department or whoever's set deck.
Because there's like a narrow window that like it'll work and it'll be funny if it works.
And if it doesn't, it just doesn't work.
Yep, yep, exactly. So DJ sarcastically answers, that's much better. And Stephanie leaves, waving au revoir. Next, of course, Danny, Becky and a TV crew enter. Steph greets him, dad. And dad replies, Pierre.
I remember that bit because I remember Bob and I thought it was so funny.
Yeah.
Because you're both playing it so normal. Yeah, exactly. Dad, Pierre. Pierre. He doesn't miss a beat, Pierre.
It was so funny.
It was great.
Like this whole nightmare sequence was really funny.
Yeah, it was great.
Like, it took forever to shoot it, but it was so funny to do it. It was great.
Because, again, it was stuff that you could almost see the Tanners doing that's outlandish.
But, yeah, it was great. Oh, it just suddenly becomes worse.
And you're like, oh, okay, I think. You're like, wait a minute.
Tanners are crazy, but are they this crazy?
You really don't know until she wakes up.
Yeah.
So Danny and Becky begin a live shot. Wake up, San Francisco. I'm Danny Tanner. And I'm Rebecca Donaldson. And the teacher pipes in. I'm Gertrude Twitchell. Dad, Aunt Becky, what are you doing here? DJ's high-pitched voice is showing her anxiety. Danny replies, they're doing a cover story on her SATs. Live, up close, and personal. Dad, DJ reminds him, it's just a test. Yeah, right, he responds. Becky asks how it's going, and DJ shares that it's terrible. It's a disaster. This could be humiliating, Becky reacts to the camera.
Let's watch. Then Mrs. Twitchell says time's up. DJ argues that time can't be up. She hasn't even started. But Mrs. Twitchell tells her to stop bellyaching. It's time to grade the tests. Danny then introduces the queen of consonants, the vixen of vowels, the beautiful and talented... Vanna White. She's there to help grade the tests right here and now.
Vanna enters to the theme song and she's wearing one of her legendary formal gowns. She looks fabulous. Yes. Kimmy walks up to her. Miss White, this is an honor. There's something I've always wanted to ask you. Do you get paid by the letter? Vanna answers. When people buy a vowel, that money goes to her. Even the why, Kimmy asks. Sometimes, Vanna replies.
A little grammar joke, but I'm done.
I was so excited, though, to have this little bit with Vanna White. I bet. She's so cool. She was just very quiet.
And just a dude.
She didn't talk a whole lot, but she knew her lines and she was very professional for the whole day. Now it's time to grade the paper. As Kimmy's test gets put into the copy machine looking contraption called the test-o-matic, it comes out and it turns out Kimmy receives a perfect score. What? Genius. Now you know it's a nightmare. Yeah, now I'm like, this is real. Like, this is not.
Vanna White I buy, but yeah.
What does her future have in store? Vanna shows a letterboard and turns over each letter as the classroom shouts out, S-T-A-N-F-O-R-D, Stanford! Vanna announces that Kimmy has won a full scholarship to Stanford. Kimmy turns to DJ, is that ironic or what? Next, it's time to put DJ's paper through the machine. DJ doesn't want hers to get graded. But Danny takes it.
And in his announcer voice. come on in, everybody. It's time to grade DJ's paper. At this point, Jesse walks in with the twins, Joey, Comet, Michelle, and Steve. Of course, like this. Now, this is not a nightmare. Like, this is just what they do. No, this is how the Tanners roll. Right. Yeah, they roll deep.
Yeah.
We got to see what DJ got on her test. So they're all there. Danny says, is everybody ready for the proudest moment of their lives? DJ doesn't understand why this is happening and asks Jesse for help. He runs to her desk offering help until he sees Vanna White. By God, Vanna White. Hi, Vanna. Let me just say I'm a huge fan of your work. In fact, your hair is the reason I got a large screen TV.
Vanna responds that if her hair has made a difference in one person's life, It's all been worth it. He's so excited and he calls her a national treasure. Mrs. Twitchell puts DJ's test on the test-o-matic and it comes out shredded. Danny announces, what a shame! You got every one wrong. You're a disgrace to the entire family. Now it's time for Vanna to turn the letters to reveal DJ's future.
C-L-O-W-N-U.
Well, DJ, looks like you're going to clown university. Joey brings DJ a red clown nose and puts it on her nose and honks it. DJ is mortified. Danny offers Comet DJ's room. And then Comet, or Dave, replies, Gee, thanks, Dad. Stephen, Steph still doesn't get her own room. A dog gets offered a room before Stephanie. Oh! That's so wrong. You're such the middle child. I forgot you were here, Pierre.
I never thought of that. That's, you know, middle child syndrome. Yep. So DJ nervously asks Steve, you still love me, don't you? And he answers, of course I do. So what if you screwed up the test? At least you spelled your name right. The proctor says, not even close. DJ yells, what? I wrote DJ Tanner. But abbreviations are strictly forbidden. Michelle issues a stupid violation for this error. One of the twins gives her the shame, shame gesture with his fingers.
I thought we were going full Game of Thrones. Get out the bell.
You know.
The rest of the family chimes in. Shame, shame, DJ. Yeah, yeah. They made her parade through the streets. Just the ultimate humiliation. Then Kimmy decides to move in on Steve. Oh, Steven. Guess who got a perfect score and their name right? Steve grabs her. Oh, I love a girl with brains. And he gives Kimmy a big dip and a kiss.
I forgot that this happened in the scene.
Was it weird? Oh, God, yeah. This was like, it was like kissing your brother, like we talked about. You and John Brotherton. It's like, good God. Right, you're like, this is odd. I know. But it was hilarious.
It was very funny.
It was hilarious. I did not kiss him during rehearsal. I waited until the cameras were rolling because I'm just like, This is it, Scott! Wow, you've made out with me, made it with Scott, you made out with, yeah, Jesus, Kimmy. Kimmy gets around, what can I say? Kimmy, Kimmy, Kimmy. Everyone claps, including Vanna, and DJ shakes them apart and yells for Kimmy to get her hands off of him.
DJ is screaming, no, no, no, as we dissolve back into her bedroom with Danny shaking her awake. so she can go take her test in time. Revealing that this was all a nightmare. Oh my goodness. DJ tells Dani it was horrible. And as she reaches to see if she's wearing a clown nose, she continues. There were all kinds of changes. I had the wrong pencils. The burrito talked.
Dani looks at her worriedly. I hope this was a dream. It was a nightmare. You wouldn't believe it. I failed my SAT. And Kimmy got a perfect score. You're right, Danny says. I wouldn't believe it. Come on, honey. We really have to go. DJ doesn't think she can face this test. Can you write me a note to get me out of college? And then we cue the dad is about to share lesson music.
Oh, the violins come in.
Here we go. Danny tells DJ that it's a big day for her. She reminds him that he said it was no big deal. It's just a test. He admits that he said it, but he didn't mean it. And then she wonders why he said it then. Yeah, don't say he didn't mean it. Right? When he said he did it to help her not be nervous, she says that was making her more nervous. Danny apologizes for the misstep.
He was just trying to protect her. He was so nervous when he took his SATs. He was a wreck. I did the first 12 questions with an eraser. So how did you do, DJ asks, settling down. Not bad, Danny answers, once I turned my pencil around. DJ says, so I guess I just gotta face it, huh? Danny reminds her she has done everything she could do. She's prepared, she has studied hard, and everyone believes in her. All she has to do now is believe in herself and do the best she can do. Aw, full house moment.
Full house. Yay. Aw, full house. And now this is the Danny Tanner we expected, you know? Yes. Yeah, yeah, yeah. He finally came around. Right. Back in the classroom, DJ is with the other students and Kimmy ready to take the test. Vanna White walks in and DJ panics. This is not happening. But we learn that Vanna is not Vanna.
She's Mrs. Moffat. Kim was thrilled.
Right.
This is pre-Kim.
I know it's pre-Kim, but it's, yeah, yeah, yeah.
I still think it's, yeah, I think Kim is responsible for this. Yeah, I do too. Yeah, it all comes back to Kim. I think it was time travel, whatever. The teacher asks the room to put their names on their answer sheets, to which Kimmy replies, I'm drawing a blank. DJ asks, are number two pencils okay? And Mrs. Moffat answers, I'm sorry, we're using number fours. DJ is confused. But Mrs.
Moffat chuckles. I'm kidding. Relax. It's just a test. The students go on to take the test. And that is our show. That's our show. All right. I love this episode.
This was a fun one.
Actually, I did like this episode. I thought it was fun. I thought it was silly. I mean, to be fair, though, the whole show is that is that dream. That's true. It's like the longest, the longest scene. It's like pages and pages and pages.
You go, it's like kitchen and living room.
You have a couple little beats. The lady comes to the door.
Then all of a sudden DJ's upstairs studying and then dream sequence, the whole thing, nightmare, all of that.
Then DJ wakes up.
And takes a test.
That was a beast.
That was a beast.
Yes.
It was, I mean, it was like seven scenes in one.
It really was. It was a lot. Super-sized scene. Yes. So fun.
It was a really fun one.
It was funny.
I thought it was, I thought they did a.
Great job of, you know, making it really almost believable up until a point, but like.
You really did think that maybe this could have happened.
You know, it was very funny. It's true. Even I forgot. I was like, Oh yeah, this is a dream sequence. But you forget because it's set up very nicely. They're planting the seeds with the Joe Pesci thing. And then the Kimmy clown call, like they set it up. So the payoff works.
Yeah, it really did. It was great. And I, and I loved that we have Vanna White on the show.
Vanna White. She's fantastic.
Yes. Yeah, she was.
It was a delight. Such a treat to have her. Everybody was so excited. Yeah. Have her on the show. And she was delightful. Yeah, she was very sweet. Loved it. I did not have any everywhere you look.
I didn't either.
Every student.
I was going to say I paused it and I looked at every one of them.
Couldn't find. Couldn't find a one that we knew.
Not a single Cameron cousin or anything. No, there was nobody that I recognized. So I do remember those, the kids, though, the background actors, because they were there for so long.
Oh, I bet, right.
Sitting in those seats for so long. They were like, can we have a break? Can we?
Yeah.
I need a break from sitting. Yeah.
Yeah.
But yeah, no, everywhere you look. Sorry, guys.
Yeah, no, I didn't. I didn't have any either. That was it.
That was it. But it was it was a great, great episode. Great for Candace, too. She played that escalating panic really well. And I love the again, I love these episodes where the whole family is involved in the same storyline. Yes, absolutely. And just when you think the Tanners can't get more ridiculous, there's a dream sequence. There's a dream sequence.
Right.
And you're like, is this a dream sequence?
I don't know. Yeah. You got to think about it. Got to think about it a little bit. Oh, I love the Tanner family. I love them. I love that amphibian.
All right, everybody. Thank you for joining us.
No, I thank you. That wasn't what.
I.
I thank you.
It's the amphibian.
As you are wont to do.
As I am wont to do, I thank you.
No, I need to stop talking, apparently. AB and I thank you.
For joining us. us today.
Thanks, Fanneritos.
We love you.
As you can see, we need to go.
I need to get a coffee.
I don't know what's going to happen the next 10 seconds. So bear with me, everyone.
All right.
If you want to find us on Instagram, you can check us out at HowRudePodcast. If you want to send us an email, send us at HowRudeTanneritos at gmail.com. Yes, I did get that correct. Thank you very much. And I think that's it. I think I got nothing.
That's it. I got nothing.
I got to go.
I'm waving the white flag. Remember, everybody, the world is small, but the house is full. Of number four pencils.
Full of number four pencils. Everywhere. Yeah.
Poking you in the eye. You can't even sit down. You know?
It'll poke your eye out.
Yeah, you'll poke your eye out.
Yeah. Mess.
A mess.
Even Vanna White can't clean it up.
Bye-bye.
Something's wrong with us. There's definitely something wrong with us.
