And, you know, things like that, because it's also about, you know, connecting with your ancestors and your loved ones as well as that. I mean, the pumpkin, for example, is, I was laughing at that, you know, getting your pumpkin out and making it a lantern is really just to give some light but to scare away all the ghouls. So it's to scare away the ghosts that you really don't want,

She's a paranormal investigator. And you guys know each other. You've gone and done a night. Did you do an overnight stay at a haunted place?

3:18 I did do an overnight stay at the haunted pub. But, yeah, we went and did an investigation that night. So it was from 8 till midnight type of thing. And, yeah, she had everything sort of set up. that you can go into different places. And, yeah, it was really interesting. It was a great night. And it was a lot of activity.

4:01 Joining us today, Katie Harvey, paranormal. I am so excited for this. Now, you two ladies know each other quite well. You went hunting of the ghosts together, I do believe. Tell us about that experience.

4:12 When was that?

4:13 It was about a couple of years ago, wasn't it now, Katie, I think?

4:17 Yeah, I think it was, about two and a half years ago.

4:19 And where did you head to?

4:21 The gorgeous Glengallen Homestead, out near, between Allara and Warwick.

4:25 Okay, cool.

4:26 So in Australia, obviously for international, apparently we're big in Austria this week, but anyway, that's kind of, would you call it kind of regional Australia, kind of a little bit bushy? Yeah, yeah.

4:38 It's in the middle of nowhere pretty much.

4:40 Cool.

4:40 And what's the history of that particular place? Okay, so it's 1850s built and it sort of was pretty much the supported background building of that area, sort of one of the second biggest stations for the Darling Downs. And it has withstood the test of time.

5:07 It's immaculate. It was run down and abandoned for.

5:10 About 40 years until a team of or a board of people came in and decided to give it some life back and do the millions of dollars worth of repairs that they've put into it. Wow.

5:24 Yeah, she's back up and running and just absolutely gorgeous.

5:28 She's beautiful. Absolutely grand.

5:31 Grand staircase, everything when you walk in, although I must admit I was in the dark most of the time because it was.

5:36 Meant to be.

5:38 It was like feeling our way around, but it was so much fun.

5:41 And she'd set us.

5:43 Set up for us all different places there was a mirror there a dark mirror there was um you know um in fact you actually put the funny enough the headphones on me and and um it blocked everything out and and katie was actually asking the ghost to touch me on the shoulder here and there and i was actually yeah feeling it and saying this is happening this is happening um which was lots and lots of fun.

6:05 So what's the history of the of it then is it as it got what kind of ghosts are sort of in the area.

6:12 Um, so, I mean, look, it was a sheep station and a cattle station. So, you know, there were hundreds of different people that worked on the property. So a lot of the spirits that are still there are very prominent figures. Um, one of them being John Duker, which was the original owner of, of Glen Gallen. Um, and he's very, I believe that's actually who, um, was touching Michelle that night because it was all upstairs.

6:36 So, You mean he was touching her upstairs or was actually upstairs in the building?

6:40 He was touching me upstairs. But he was hilarious because I called out his name too and I did say it was John. And I also felt that we said, what happened here? And I was saying somebody went over the balcony and he went, somebody did go over the balcony. So that was the first thing I had when I got up there. But, yeah, he was definitely a peachy keen jelly bean. He was definitely touching me upstairs.

7:02 He touches people upstairs often. Actually, he touches them downstairs sometimes too.

7:07 Yes, exactly.

7:08 He's quite prominent. I think it's all in the name.

7:13 Yeah.

7:13 Yeah, it's true.

7:14 I've got to watch out for them.

7:16 So you run these, what do you actually call them? Do you call them ghost hunts or do you call them events or?

7:23 They're just a paranormal experience.

7:26 And you've got a couple of other places too.

7:27 I don't use the word ghost tour.

7:29 Yeah. Yeah.

7:30 I think that's very generic.

7:32 I think what we do is very different because we incorporate like all of your old world spirit connecting tools and techniques. So, you know, table tipping, pendulums, mirrors, like Michelle had discussed, spirit riders, the ever popular Ouija board and different things like that. So we have that combined with the paranormal equipment.

7:56 So Yeah, it's an experience more than a tour.

7:59 How did you get into this? I just find this absolutely fascinating. Like you must have some stories.

8:05 Yeah.

8:06 Oh, God, yeah.

8:07 What's the most scariest thing that's ever happened? Because I know you've taken on some new homesteads too, which I'd love to experience as well with you because I love spending time with you anyway, and that's just an even better excuse to spend time with you.

8:20 Let me tell someone.

8:21 LAUGHTER Who doesn't love that creepy friend?

8:25 Michelle's my creepy.

8:26 Friend, yeah. Everyone's got to have one.

8:28 Yeah, definitely.

8:29 Yeah, exactly.

8:32 You know, I think as per most people that get into whether it's the paranormal or spiritual world, you know, we've had an experience when we were young and that's when mine first started. My first experience as probably about an eight-year-old, you know, it was a scary thing. It was a scary moment and it continued over time and it just sort of I think it just drip fed into me being curious by the time I hit my teens and off I went. Um, as for doing tours or not tours, but doing the events that I do, um, I've been a paranormal investigator for quite some time.

9:06 So pretty much about 30 years.

9:08 Um, and all of a sudden, um, I had one of the locations contact me and go, Hey, you know, would you like to do what you do as a public event?

9:18 And it just sort of went from there.

9:20 Um, So we've been really fortunate, probably well over 80 different locations we've held our events at over the years. So very, very fortunate to be in some amazingly beautiful, haunted places.

9:33 So, yeah.

9:35 And paranormal investigator, what is that definition? What does that mean?

9:40 So basically that means that we go into locations either requested by clients to say, hey, look, we've got– Activity happening, we want to know what's going on.

9:51 We go in with our equipment.

9:53 To gather or hopefully gather physical evidence of something that's happening.

10:00 Inexplainable that's going on so you know.

10:03 Going in I'm really old school I like to have EVPs which is your electronic voice phenomena so I want to hear them speaking I want to see them moving in video or capture them in a photo so So that's pretty much, to me, that's evidence.

10:21 Of what's going on.

10:23 We got that with the nanny where we were asking her to go and sit in the– there was a kid's room and a nanny was an adult and there was kids and we were asking the nanny to go and sit in the rocking chair and she did.

10:33 Wow.

10:33 And we saw it, yeah, which was really cool.

10:36 So, Michelle, that exact area, with a tour or an event that we did a couple of weeks ago, I was upstairs. So I always go into the location and I do like a bit of a live video. Every time we do something, everybody else is downstairs and outside. And in that exact area, while I was doing the live, there's a child's voice comes through.

11:01 Wow there you go so yeah that's crazy I was very it's definitely haunted I know that oh and where are you going to be where are you going to be because I know you've got a couple of new homesteads that are also in the area or around where are you going to be on Halloween and yeah because I mean I mean they do say that the veil is thinner then um it'd.

11:21 Be interesting to see where you're going to be on that night.

11:24 Well you would think I was doing something really exciting but I'm not um.

11:30 I was.

11:30 There was a location that we were going to do a big Halloween event at, but unfortunately the owners couldn't go through with it. But in saying that, my house is one of the most haunted places that I.

11:44 Bring my work home with me.

11:45 That's true.

11:47 And I have walls of haunted objects.

11:50 So I'm just getting the guys, like my team together, and we're just going to spend a night here. If it's fine, we're going to deck out the house outside and Then we're going to do a bit of our own connecting with spirit.

12:05 Did you get in the house first with the ghosts or did the ghosts come to the house after you got there?

12:12 I've got to say they came afterwards.

12:38 What's the scariest story that you've got for us?

12:43 The scariest story, it's one that I will probably never, well, no, I just won't ever forget, ever. We were at Joe's Grand Hotel out at Gamarie. And we were doing an investigation overnight. I like to go into these places what I call blind. I don't want to know what happens. I don't want to know what other people happen. I just want to go in and experience because I experienced it too. So we're in there. We did the investigation.

13:12 That was okay. I had a few things happen. Went to bed, woke up whatever time the next morning, and I couldn't move.

13:25 I had what I believe was sleep paralysis. Never had it before, never had it since. But while I'm laying there, my eyes are looking up.

13:35 Incubus, I think it's called.

13:38 My eyes are looking up.

13:39 Incubus?

13:40 Yeah, yeah, yeah.

13:41 Interpus.

13:42 I 100% believe that's what it was. Sorry.

13:44 I want to hear the story, Michelle. Sorry. Stop interrupting.

13:48 Katie knows me well. She knows I go off on a journey. She's got to bring me back all the time, Michelle.

13:53 Yeah, all right.

13:54 So you've got sleep paralysis. You've never had it before. You've never had it again. And what was happening?

14:01 Hmm. So as I opened my eyes and looked up, there was a woman standing but bent over the top of me and probably about this far away from my face, just there.

14:13 So, you know, I couldn't do anything other than probably shit myself inside. LAUGHTER That was about it.

14:21 I guess it was all coming out of the eyes. It was like, oh my God, all this fear. But I had no idea. I don't know how long it lasted. To me, it felt like a freaking lifetime, but Um, the next morning I was telling the management about it and they went, yeah, that's why we put you in that room.

14:38 And I'm like, thanks guys.

14:42 You know, I had a heart attack and be another ghost in your place. But, um, that was probably the scariest thing because I just, I couldn't do anything.

14:50 I couldn't move. I couldn't call out. I couldn't nothing. And there's just this, They don't specifically know.

14:57 There's been quite a few things happen in the hotel over the years and there was a fire and there was a woman that lost her life in the fire.

15:04 I'd say that's who it was.

15:05 They don't know whether it's her, but all they know is that there's a lot of people experienced that in that room and I'm like, you know, what?

15:12 Thanks. They need to change the sheets. So, yeah. But, yeah, so that's probably one of them.

15:19 That sounds horrible.

15:21 Absolutely.

15:21 Was she like an older lady or was she, like I'm imagining like, The grandma from Beverly Hillbillies.

15:26 I don't know why.

15:27 No, no. No, but she was pretty creepy looking. She was dead dead.

15:32 Yeah, she was dead dead.

15:33 Yeah.

15:34 Not many people dead are good looking.

15:36 Did she look charred?

15:37 No.

15:37 Yeah, was she charred?

15:39 No, no, not at all, but just very wizard. Okay.

15:42 So.

15:44 Dehydrated I don't know what you'd call it have you.

15:46 Ever been called somewhere and not found anything as in you said that clients ask you to go to their properties and see and try to explain things are there things that you you just can't actually explain or the things that that maybe it was it I don't know it did there was nothing there.

16:04 Yeah of course um probably I'd have to say maybe a bit over 50 percent of the places that we do go there's nothing um.

16:12 You know, I don't say nothing. We don't capture anything. Michelle, you would know this.

16:20 Sometimes you can go into a location and it really just depends on whether what's in there wants to let you know they're.

16:25 There as well.

16:27 So it works on the same basis, you know. If they want to come forward, they'll come forward. If not, we get nothing. So, yeah.

16:34 So, I mean, I do a lot of clearing.

16:35 So, you know, I go around and I clear, like, well, some will say I've got something in the house and I'll go and I'll do a clearing and I I don't necessarily feel it's anything bad. And sometimes it's actually just a relative that's just wanting to let them know that they're there. And I think, you know, once we sort of sit down and have a chat about what I'm feeling, what they look like, who I think they are, then it's okay. I still will get out any negative residue from, you know, if they've come into a house that's had a lot of fighting in it, a divorce has happened, you know, all that sort of stuff, the negative stuff.

17:06 Sort of energy.

17:06 There are certainly places I have come in and gone, yeah, this is haunted. But, you know, there are a lot fewer than the ones that are really just got your relatives just wanting to let you know that they're there to say, you know, hey, you know.

17:19 Yeah, pretty much. Or previous owners, a lot of them too.

17:23 This is my house.

17:24 And, you know, when they come out, when you start renovating, when you start knocking stuff down, they're not happy.

17:30 Yeah, and that's when you'll feel a lot of activity. If there's going to be some activity in a home, it'll be when you start renovating.

17:37 Well, I've had four in the last three weeks that the request for investigations has gone through the roof at the moment.

17:45 Surprise, surprise, we're coming into Halloween. But I've had four in the.

17:48 Last couple of weeks that they've been doing renos on their home and the activity is just crazy.

17:54 So, yeah.

17:54 Hmm.

17:56 They don't like their stuff, James.

17:58 No, no, they don't. What's the most common haunting?

18:01 Like as in what's the most common thing that people experience when there is a spirit or paranormal activity?

18:09 I guess probably more like electrical interferences, like TVs being turned on and off, radios being turned on and off, that sort of stuff.

18:18 Quite often phones.

18:19 We get a lot of people say that, you know, they'll get phone calls on their phone and it'll be from a number that, you know, They know that person's not alive anymore. You know, it's more the electrical, like the, yeah, the more.

18:33 Interactive stuff, I guess.

18:35 I had that this morning.

18:36 I was saying, I was getting up going, it's so nice to be in a house that's not haunted or I haven't had any hauntings here. And I hear Genevieve go, mum, and I go in and the light's going on and off. And then I was like, okay. So, I mean, for me, though, I often do say, you know, I'm coming home now, leave me alone.

18:54 Yeah.

18:54 And so that is– and I actually got up last night in the middle of the night and I'm walking around. It's so nice not to have a ghost jumping out at me anymore.

19:02 And then I think I've just– that was like a green light for them.

19:06 Oh, really?

19:10 I was walking through, a little pervert. It's probably that John. I think I brought him home. He said we're looking for another touch-up.

19:41 Have you ever had someone completely freak out and lose their shit when.

19:46 Wondering what level of freak out you used to.

19:52 Most people are pretty good, but you do tend to get the odd one. So I, at the beginning of the night, I usually suss out who those people are. And I usually say to them, because we're in like a historical place, hey, don't run.

20:04 Don't run because you're going to go over a railing in a two-story building or whatever.

20:07 And it is black.

20:08 But we've had a few that have gone, no, no, I can't do this. And they're out. They're like, no, I've got to go. I've got to go.

20:14 And that could be just simply at the sound of. you know, a floorboard creaking. So everybody's different.

20:20 But you'll find that they're the ones that are sticking to you because when we were going through before, I had a couple of people that were just following me around and they were huddling next to me like, you know, I was the person and if something was going to come up, I was going to save them. And the more that was happening, the more they screamed, the more I loved it. I was getting more pleasure.

20:41 That's me most nights whenever we do any events. I'm like this mother chicken and I'll get everybody and they're.

20:46 Like, oh, my God, I'll just follow you. And I'm like, don't follow me because I'm kicking you right into the den.

21:39 Yeah, all over the place. But we do our own connecting with spirit nights as well. So that's typically we take people into a place that is known for activity and we get all of the old world tools.
