Good morning, this is Send7 World News in 7 minutes. I'm Stephen Devincenzi. Today is Wednesday the 14th of October, 2026. Starting in Europe today. In Italy, thieves have stolen 30,000 bottles of fine wine worth around 5 million euros. Renzo Cottarella, CEO of the winemaker Marchesi Antinori, said that masked men broke into their storage facility in Cortona, in Tuscany.
Seven people entered the winery and they stole at least 50 pallets of wine that were ready to be shipped. And they were the most important wine that we shipped all together. once or two times a year when we ship the wine to the importer. So this is the reason why there was so much wine ready to be shipped.
And most of this wine was quite, let's say, expensive, quite rare in a certain sense. So Solaia and Tignanello were among 12,000 bottles each. Then a little bit of Guadaltasso, which is our icon wine from Bulgaria, and some other wines that were there. They were professional because it was not easy. They did everything very quickly. They were very well organized. They had two big tracks. You know, you cannot do something like this if you are not really professional.
So to move the pallets, I mean, they were very fast. So it means that they were really very well organized.
In Greece, the United States ambassador to Greece, Kimberly Guilfoyle, has resigned after allegations of misconduct. The US president's office asked Gilly Foyle to resign after allegations that she accepted improper gifts and offered to use her influence in the Trump administration in exchange for money. Despite being a Republican, Gilly Foyle was previously married to Democrat California Governor Gavin Newsom.
In Spain, a new liberal centrist party, has been started by lawyer and former European Union advisor Miriam Gonzalez. Gonzalez is also the wife of United Kingdom former Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg. Spain will hold a snap general election next month. At the moment, most opinion polls are predicting a similar result to in the previous election, with the centre-right People's Party winning the most seats, the Socialist Party coming second. and the far-right Vox Party coming third. The Vatican City has said that Pope Leo has been diagnosed with lung cancer. Americas Argentina and Brazil have restricted access to some parts of their Iguazu National Parks because of particularly high levels of water at the Iguazu waterfalls. On Monday,
Argentina temporarily closed its side of the waterfalls to visitors and Brazil has closed walkways that go over the waterfalls. In the United States, some Republican politicians have criticised President Donald Trump's declaration that the US will buy diesel from Russia, breaking with previous sanctions on Russia. In a joint letter, six Republican senators, as well as Democrats, wrote, Quote, granting Moscow the ability to sell Russian diesel freely in global markets damages American security interests and is a betrayal of the people of Ukraine who continue to defend themselves from Putin's murderous illegal war. Also in the United States, a man has died after falling out of a roller coaster at the Six Flags over Georgia theme park. Six Flags
has said that it is temporarily suspending nine rides in the US and Canada as a precaution. Also in the US, a man convicted of organising the murder of rapper Tupac Shakur in 1996 has been sentenced to 40 years in prison. Africa The Democratic Republic of the Congo's former president, Joseph Kabila, has been named as the leader of a new coalition of rebel groups aiming to remove the government. The most powerful rebel group in the alliance is M23, which last year took control of large parts of eastern DRC, including the large cities of Goma and Bukavu. In a video with M23 leaders, Joseph Kabila declared that the new organisation, called Front for the Refoundation of the Nation, would overthrow
the government of President Felix Tshisekedi. Rwanda is going to host the first Formula One race in Africa in over 30 years. The African Grand Prix will be held on the new track south of the capital Kigali. Asia In India, hundreds of people have protested a major government project by holding fake funerals on the Ken River. A project expected to cost 68 billion euros aims to link around 30 rivers across India, with the aim of boosting food security and reducing flood liability. People have been offered compensation for losing their homes, however some people have refused to move.
Some environmentalists also say that various ecosystems will be damaged. In Palestine's West Bank, Israeli forces conducted raids in the capital Ramallah yesterday and the town of Al-Bideh. And in Hong Kong, a painting by Vincent van Gogh is on public display for the first time in over 50 years. Chestnut Tree in Blossom will go on auction next month and is expected to reach around 160 million euros. A big thank you to Virginia in Spain for becoming our newest supporter.
