Shownotes

Today's biggest gainers and decliners in the stock market.
On this episode of Stock Movers:
• Meta (META) boosted its capital spending outlook and announced plans for a new class of nonvoting stock, escalating its already-stratospheric bet on artificial intelligence. Meta shares rose more than 6% in after-hours trading on Wednesday. They had gained about 6% this year through the close in New York.
• Tesla (TSLA)’s third-quarter profit beat estimates, potentially assuaging concerns about the electric vehicle maker’s increased investment into new areas such as robots and artificial intelligence. The results give Tesla some breathing room as it chases Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk’s futuristic vision of self-driving cars and humanoid robots. Shares initially rose in postmarket trading.
• IBM (IBM) reported sales that topped analysts’ estimates, saying it had recovered most of the infrastructure deals that were delayed earlier this year. The shares gained about 5% in extended trading after closing at $251.46 in New York. The stock declined 15% this year through Wednesday’s close.

The Stock Movers Report. Your roundup of companies making moves in the stock market. Harnessing the power of Bloomberg data.

I'm Tim Stenevek along with Carol Masser. Let's take a look at some stocks on the move today. And let's start with none other than Meta Platforms. META is the ticker. Shares in the after hours right now higher by about 5% off of session after hours, session highs a little bit earlier. There's a lot to get to with what we're learning from Meta after hours with this latest print. The company boosted its capital spending outlook to $ 135 billion to $ 145 billion in 2026. It also announced plans to create a new class of non-voting stock. The new class of shares will be distributed to existing investors through a stock dividend and will be used for capital fundraising, employee compensation, and potential acquisitions. Meta also said its fourth quarter revenue would

be $ 73 billion to $ 76 billion.

That's a lot of money.

Its shares rose about $ 3. 5 percent in after hours trading a little earlier, but right now shares in the after hours up about 5%. The company also, we should note, talked a little bit about Mark Zuckerberg and whether or not Mark Zuckerberg will be affected by Prop 40.

Right. The billionaire wealth tax.

Which he will be affected by, would be affected by if it went into, and talked a little bit about the possibility.

Of him staying versus going. Except those He needs to be at headquarters.

The new shares, right?

Exactly.

So many questions. Okay. So the stock's up, what.

About 5%? 5% in the after hours.

And to Carol's point, the stock will be used for cap fundraising, employee compensation, pension acquisitions, without diluting Mark Zuckerberg's control of the filing.

Interesting.

Interesting.

All right.

So Meta is on our radar. Let's go on over to Tesla. Of course, ticker is TSLA. Company's third quarter profit beat estimates with adjusted earnings per share of $ 0. 48 in the period. The company had free cash flow of $ 1. 5 billion in the period and a gross margin of 19.6% above estimates with revenue narrowly below estimates. Tesla, of course, exploring a possible merger with SpaceX with special committees formed to explore the possibility, but no agreement has been reached.

And we're taking a look at Tesla shares. Wow, just up about two-tenths of a percent. Let me just pull this up. and do a double check here in the aftermarket. Because we did see this stock, yeah, it was up a lot higher earlier. So now just up fractionally on a percentage basis. And this as the earnings call getting underway.

So we're going to watch for some more headlines about that. The company, the quarter ending the largest backlog for passenger vehicles in four years. Yeah, so we're going to We're going to listen for some more commentary, if you will, when it comes to Elon Musk.

Okay. So that's Tesla. So we've done Meta, Tesla. They both have reported. Can we do IBM? Let's go with IBM. Yeah.

International Business Machines. In the after hours, shares of IBM are higher after the company reported that sales increased about 5% to $ 17. 1 billion in the quarter that ended September 30th. About two-thirds of the mainframe and associated software deals that slipped earlier this year have since been inked. This according to CFO Jim Cavanaugh. He told this to Brody Ford in an interview. Let's go back to what happened in July though, because IBM said that customers were temporarily shifting their spending to chips and servers amid AI-fueled shortages that harmed its mainframe and software units.

People panicked.

Investors were already concerned that AI will disrupt many software incumbents. Shares of IBM fell 25%. In a single day, it was the worst day going back to at least 1968. But Jim Cavanaugh saying that about two-thirds of the mainframe and associated software deals that slipped earlier this year have since been inked.

Well, interesting though.

A very different trade for IBM right now. As you said, up three and a quarter percent. I just want to mention one more thing on Tesla. No mention of a SpaceX merger or major revelations in the shareholder deck.

So, again, that is something to... It'll come up on the call. What else is he going to say?

You know, this is why they don't do the.

Investor calls on the same day, right?
