On this episode of Stock Movers:
- Super Micro Computer (SMCI) jumped after the company reported preliminary quarterly results that topped analysts’ estimates. The server maker said sales will be $18.5 billion to $19.5 billion in the quarter that ended Sept. 30. Analysts, on average, estimated $15 billion, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.
- SpaceX (SPCX) shares gain. Elon Musk endorsed the prospect of combining SpaceX with Tesla Inc, uniting assets from electric cars to AI data centers to rocket and satellite capabilities. Musk said the boards of both companies had formed special committees to consider the idea of a combination, but cautioned that getting enough support from Tesla shareholders may be tricky.
- Abbot Laboratories (ABT) shares drop. Abbott plans to spin off its nutrition unit into a separate publicly traded company through a tax-free distribution to shareholders. The new company will have annual sales of about $8.5 billion from its key brands, including Pedialyte and Ensure, and will be led by Daniel Salvadori as chief executive officer. The separation is expected to be completed by the end of 2027 and will allow the new company to adapt to changes in the nutrition industry "faster and more efficiently and effectively as an independent company".

News. The Stock Movers Report. Your roundup of companies making moves in the stock market. Harnessing the power of Bloomberg data. Take a look at some of the stocks on the move today. We can do that with Dina Ali Khan. She's a cross-asset reporter from Bloomberg News. She joins us here in our studio. Dina, what are you looking at?
So today I'm looking at Supermicro SMCI, which is having a pretty good morning with shares up. Now, this is a company that makes the powerful servers packed with NVIDIA chips that help run AI tools like ChatGPT. And clearly business is booming. This is just another sign that companies are still spending big on AI. It's also some welcome good news for Supermicro, which has actually been caught up in some investigations into allegations that billions of dollars worth of its servers were illegally diverted to China. So I should note that the company itself hasn't been charged. All right.
Good clarification on that. Speaking of earnings and speaking of AI paying off SpaceX.
Yep. I'm, of course, looking at SpaceX today, SPXC, so is pretty much everybody. Elon Musk is making headlines again, this time with what could be the biggest corporate merger in history with SpaceX and Tesla looking into joining forces. And investors seem pretty excited about the idea. SpaceX is up this morning, which is also helped by strong earnings from yesterday. You know, Musk already runs both companies and they've been working pretty closely together for years and even sharing technology and engineers. But bringing them under one roof would give the richest man in the world even more control over his sprawling business empire. Tesla reports its own earnings after the bell today, so we could hear more
about this later.
All right, last one is Abbott Laboratories.
Yeah, ABT ticker. It's a less cheerful morning for Abbott Laboratories, the company behind everything from baby formula to medical devices. Shares are down more after the company lowered its profit forecast for the year, which isn't what investors really wanted to hear. Abbott also announced plans to split off its baby formula and nutrition business into a separate company, which marks a pretty big shakeup for the healthcare giant.
