Did you see, what was it? Who was the one that twisted up LeBron? Was it against the Pacers?
Oh, I don't know.
What was that recently? It was like one of the worst performances I've seen from LeBron James.
Where he just like stumbled back?
Oh, yeah.
He got across and was like, whoop! And I'm like, you are 41 years old, LeBron. You were 41 years old. You're bricking it like on the side of the backboard.
So you're on the anti-LeBron hate?
I don't think he's worth hate texts. To me, For me, it's just like, dude, we're only going to begin seeing old man version. It's been freak show up until maybe two years ago.
Yeah. And now it's like- I'm just like, over here, what I'm feeling is appreciation for the moments where he doesn't do that because he's so old. Is it Andrew Nembhard? When he can get up. Yeah. Yeah, I did see that. I saw that one live, I think.
You did?
Yeah, and it wasn't great.
It wasn't great.
It wasn't great. It wasn't his finest moment as a defender, a National Basketball Association basketball player. But in the National Basketball Association, Miles, you're going to get moments like that as a 42-year-old.
You're going to get, yeah, as the only one. He's not 42 yet. He can't claim that yet. It's not until December. I'm 42.
Who's the closest? I'm his OG. Right. Who's the closest to him age-wise? It's, I guess, like Durant, maybe? There's still two very effective players.
Wow.
Is Horford still doing it?
It says he's playing for the Warriors.
It's insane, man. It's impossible.
See, you get out there. Wait, why am I saying that? See, any of us get out there. Andrew Nembhard would have my fucking kneecaps blow out.
Of my fucking leg. That's what I'm saying. Yeah. He's doing great. The Sixers are doing great. I'm happy. I think this is as good as it gets for us. I think it's all going to fall apart very soon. But for now, we're happy.
Sure.
I mean, six and one. Don't forget, the snow time Lakers are five and two.
That's right.
All my diehard L.A. Lakers fans were all kind of like, bro, what the fuck? It's never been this white before.
This is crazy. I don't think any team's been this way.
I know. We're just sort of like, what the fuck? But not even a battle.
You guys took a look at the 80s Celtics and we're like, hey, if you can't beat them, join them. We're doing that. Yeah.
We got our own Kevin McHale up in here.
Yeah.
How does it feel?
Great. How does it feel to be without LeBron?
I love to see just white guys.
Just- Executing fundamentally. Executing fundamentals.
Just getting it done. Executing. Executing. Mm-hmm. And just, you know, freeing themselves from the shackles of perceived mediocrity. Look at us now. We're five and two. I was so out on them. Not really, not because they were all white, but I was just like, what is this team going to be? And they're actually just doing their jobs now.
And I'm like, this is, I was telling Jabari, we were kind of like, what? Are we good?
Yeah.
For now? After seven games?
Yeah, after seven games. We'll say that.
We'll take that.
Are you up on Yaxel Lindenborg? No. He's like the rookie for the Warriors who- Oh, yeah, I saw that name. Checked Luka in the season opener and was like- He did a good job guarding him, actually, but he was like, I can't deal with that motherfucker. He's like, I used to have respect for him, and now watching the way he talks to the refs, I'm out.
Oh, Yaxel did?
Yeah.
Okay, Yaxel.
I kind of like him. He also came as Michael Myers to- His Halloween game. The Halloween costumes in the NBA, I like that as a tradition, that they should start going full Klum, you know?
Oh, yeah.
What was she, a severed hand or some shit? Her own severed hand or something?
Her own severed hand, yeah. What happened?
Was that self-referential?
I don't think it actually happened. I don't think she actually severed her hand for it. But, yeah, I have a theory on what's going on there.
Oh, okay.
How was your Halloween?
It was great.
Yeah? It was.
Oh, dude, we went to a house party yesterday. And it was great because it was all, like, older. It was, like, millennials. But everyone's, like, in their late 30s, crammed into a backyard, drink. It was just like, yes, we know how to do this. We know how to talk standing in a circle holding.
A cup and be like, hey, hey, hey.
It was so funny.
Hey, hey, hey. Oh, oh, hey, hey. Come over here. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Oh, what are you?
Oh, Sally from Nightmare on Earth.
What am I supposed to be? I don't fucking know. But, like, on the way there, we totally walked into another house party and that was happening just next door. I had a fucked up Guy Fieri costume on.
You did? Yeah, yeah.
We walked in this gate. There's two teenage girls just sitting there. And then we're like, huh? I'm looking around. I've got a bunch of beer under my arms. And then I just see some other parents very buttoned up, having a very elegant Halloween party.
You're like, not us.
And I went. I just looked at them. I said, wrong party, wrong party.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Walked out.
Amazing. Good traffic? Yeah. Oh, the best.
Oh, wow.
It was pretty- Those kids know how much it cost you to fill up those bags? I told them every fucking time. Huh? Yeah.
Might as well give you a dollar bill.
What?
That's how much that cost, basically. That's how much it cost, man. All right.
Cocoa prices. You kidding me? But yeah, it was raining. We ran out, I guess, an hour later than we usually do.
Okay.
We were out at 8.30.
I mean, the rain wasn't too bad, though, was it, for you guys?
It was- It was a steady spit.
It was, and we were out, no umbrella, and we were just thugging it out.
Yeah.
And we're kind of like, because last year was so hot.
Yeah.
If you remember, I was just like, thank God, man. I was sweating last year.
Call it Jay-Z because it was steady spitting out there.
Okay.
I couldn't think of a better. Who has a real steady flow? Jizza? Yeah, steady.
Maybe Mastakilla.
Yeah, Mastakilla.
I feel like it has a little bit more of a. You're not getting too dynamic with Mastakilla. You know what I mean?
Yeah. Hello, the internet, and welcome to this week trend edition of.
Dirt Daily Zeitgeist.
Yeah. Yeah. Is that a question? Yeah.
It's a wild time right now. October surprises abound.
Oh, man. What? This is the episode where we tell you what was trending over the weekend, what's trending on this Monday morning, and also what's trending in our hearts. Oh, yeah. By letting you know some things we think are overrated and underrated. My name's Jack O'Brien. That over there is Mr. Miles Gray. Yes.
What a weekend we had.
Oh, what a weekend. Halloweekend.
And Haley Ween, too, from Haley Stevie Weens. What a wild and spooky weekend.
I'm just going to flip on them. You know, you can't. They think I'm going this way, and bam, I'm going that way. Look, I love my party. I love my party. I just don't want them to win this one race.
Okay. All right, shitbag.
We'll get to her. But first, yeah, we like to, you know, every day we ask our guests what they think is overrated, underrated. I'm just sitting there being like... Fucking ask me.
You just spit all over me.
I know. I'm sorry.
That was pretty.
That was an authentic. You felt that. Yeah. That was disgust.
Pure disgust. I apologize.
That's fine.
Didn't get on me.
Let's tell the people some things we think are overrated, underrated. Miles, what is something you think is underrated?
Okay. I found, you know me. I like to time travel using media. Uh-huh. A while back, I said underrated listening to music through a shitty radio, like a boombox.
Yeah.
Because sonically, we're not used to hearing. The speakers are so good now.
Yeah.
We don't have that old-timey, like we're 10 years old listening to a radio sound.
You can hear everything.
Perfect. I time travel like that.
Found a new one.
It's called Rewind Vault on YouTube.
Okay. Yeah. And I'm unfamiliar.
They have like full one-hour blocks of MTV with the commercials in them.
Wow. With commercials.
I watched MTV After Hours from 1997, like an hour and a half of it last night. I got to watch the video for Swallowed by Bush.
Swallowed!
Remember that one?
No, not at all.
Anybody?
Anybody? Yeah, yeah. No, no, no.
The entire scene is, what the fuck is this fool talking about?
One of the first concerts I ever went to without my parents was Bush and No Doubt. I don't even remember that song.
Wow, yeah. Well, that was maybe after Glycerine. Glycerine! Machine Head or whatever.
So anyway. Got a machine head. The commercials, there was a.
It was wild to see this and see the... That's the thing. Having that TV on... In the background, as I was just doing some other stuff, like the ITT Tech, like technical school commercial came on.
Okay.
ITT Technical College, and it was like fucking robots building motherboards. I remember that. There were so many things I just remembered that reanimated my brain.
And if I had just listened to that ad, I'd be a tech billionaire today. Yeah. Fuck.
So this thing, they've got full episodes of 120 minutes. like, Kennedy's old show where she turned neocon. There's fucking Totally Polly, the Polly Shore show. So, again, this is, like, great background things where you will either hear a song or a music video that, like, you didn't really care about, like, swallowed.
I did not care about it. But when I saw it, I was like, oh, I remember this.
This is bringing me back.
This is, for the elder millennials out there, you want to tune into this Rewind Vault on fucking YouTube and just... Just go back, baby. 97, 98, 89, whatever. They got all the years there.
Really?
Find something.
And they just got chunks. Just huge chunks.
They just chunk it up. This one's called MTV 1990s Rap Music Video Block 8.
Okay.
And this is just a block. of stuff. And then you'll see the ones that say with commercials. Those are the ones you want.
That's what you're looking for.
Like MTV Late Night, June 17th, 1989, videos with commercials.
There you go. All right.
Check it out.
Sounds good. Check it out. My underrated, I got two.
I got.
children who go method for their halloween costumes so we get like thousands of trick-or-treaters at our house and uh i'm always just trying to be in you know i'm like spider-man spidey yeah yeah there's a spider-man who like maybe he was like three four and we just kept gassing him up for his spider-man costume but he was like in it he was like shooting imaginary webs at us and like Wouldn't pick up the candy because he was just, like, pretending to, like, shoot at the candy to, like, get it.
Yeah, and you're like.
And then his mom was like, hey.
Yeah, come along, Bort.
But the best was there was a girl who was dressed as a queen. And I was like, your majesty, as I, like, put the candy in her bag. And she looked all the way down her nose at me and was, like, peasant. Oh, shit. Before she walked away. I was like, hell yeah.
How old?
Probably, like, 12. Okay. Yeah. Yeah.
12.
Okay.
I was like, if you're hitting people with peasants.
Yeah, if it was like a six. Six?
I'd be like, fuck you. The fuck you know about that shit? Give me my fucking candy back, actually.
Chase her down.
Wow.
Yeah. Yeah. But costume roundup, I do like to just tell people what we saw. Broad swath, broad sample. Spider-Man is still king. Spider-Man is still out here. It was funny.
We went trick-or-treating with some kids from our neighborhood and the family's. And there's kids of all ages, and one of the older kids had their friends from school over. They're all first graders. There's three Spider-Men, and.
They were all pissed.
They're like, well, I would... You can point at each other.
They're like, I don't even know that meme, actually.
One kid was like, yeah, exactly. One kid was like, dude, mine's better. I got the muscles in it.
Yeah.
And shamed one of the other kids, and I was like... Man, this kid, he had a goose suit on. This kid was definitely goosed.
He got goosed, yeah. But part of me wanted to tell that kid, I'm like.
Dude, Spider-Man ain't about the muscles, man.
Yeah.
I don't know what this kid's thinking.
That's the main thing, yeah. Although with Tom Holland, it kind of became about the muscles. Is it? Thanks a lot, Tom Holland. Well, he's pretty, he's definitely our most muscular.
They show him shirtless more?
Oh, yeah. And he just looks a little bit more muscular inside the suit.
Okay.
Whereas Andrew Garfield, Tobey Maguire, you're not.
No, no.
There's no goose and.
Yeah, no Goosen.
Inside or out. I would say Minions also killing it this year. And then a lot of Bananas.
Oh, really? I saw Inflatable Pikachus. A lot of Inflatable Pikachus.
Yeah. I saw a lot of the Inflatable costumes, really. I had my go-to, the one where it looks like someone's grabbing you from behind.
Oh, yep, yep, yep, yep.
I'm finna grab you by the waist. My dad move was like, watch out behind you. Hey, watch out. Oh, yeah. They loved that.
They loved it.
They rolled their eyes and was like, let's get out of here. But yeah, those were kind of the main ones. My other underrated is when a football player lifts the other football player up with like straight arms. Have you ever seen this? It's like a toddler. It's just, it's very like, wee, coded.
Are they chest to chest?
Yeah, chest to chest. And then he lifts them up under the arms and like, it's like giving dirty dancing. Yeah. All my life.
Wait, why did you?
I just saw that.
And you're like, hey, I'm having that.
Yeah, I just saw that on, I was, you know, during my son's classes on Sunday. I just like have to kill a little bit of time in a place that has a TV. And I was just watching without, you know, some football highlights wordlessly. The way you.
Say that, it sounded like you were in a waiting room at a prison. Like, yeah, and I got to kill some time.
One of his classes, you know.
I get him some turkey jerky from the vending machine. He's waiting for Elizabeth to come out and talk to me. He likes a sriracha turkey jerky.
Yeah, that's right. What is something, Miles, that you think is overrated? Overrated?
Dude, the self-perception of young kids' Halloween pranking abilities. I caught three of the laziest ding-dong ditchers.
Wait.
Fucking ever.
They're ding-dong ditching on trick-or-treat night?
Dude, at fucking, like, 10. It was, like, not even that late.
You know what I mean?
So, like, we got home maybe around 9. Did you just leave a bowl out or did you have something? We had a bowl out. Yeah, yeah. Because we went to... Like, we were out. Like, so we were out doing stuff with the kid. So the bowl, that was cleaned out. At that point, the fucking squirrels had fully devoured our pumpkins.
They were just... Oh, yeah.
Just gone.
Just gone.
At that point.
Like, just a couple seeds. It was weird.
It's as if they knew... They're getting, they're gone after tonight. Right. Because before they were nibbling, when we came back from trick-or-treating, like, this was like, it looked like a family of squirrels just fucking went to town.
It's like the Ocean's Eleven heists. They're like, this is the night. It's gotta be tonight.
I was, like, putting my shit away near the door, and I could hear these kids talking loud. Like, casually.
Right.
They're like, yeah, yeah, yeah, we'll get this one right now. We'll get this one right now. And, like, I was like, what the fuck are they doing? Just did the, like, I don't have a doorbell. They just did a loud, like, pound on the door i was three feet away yeah and i walked close i just walked by and you can go and because it was raining like one kid was like slip like looney tunes slipping trying to get and they came out and i opened the door and like just i could just see like the foot.
Of one of them turning the corner So you do have to admit they got your ass because you didn't catch them.
No, I didn't catch them. But like it was they I'm just saying they weren't slick.
Right.
We're talking so loud on the approach. Yeah. Then you didn't you didn't factor in the your environment. You're going to be slipping. Why are all three of you there? If one person's going to be doing the knocking.
Oh, man.
Maybe it was the kind of thing where it was like, you were like, no, we got to make sure you do it this time. Right. Like, really kick the door.
Oh, you think they were observing a friend who had faked it out before?
It was just weird. The conversation wasn't, it felt like, all right, we're going to do, it was just felt, I don't know, the intent was so loud that I was like, what are you guys doing?
For new listeners, I admitted in an earlier episode to pretending to ring the doorbell during Ding Dong Ditching when I was eight. Nine-year-old, yeah.
That's good.
Coward, I believe.
Nine is good. Actually, I thought you were like a teenager.
No.
No, no, you were just a sweet boy. What's wrong with that? Well, they did get your ass and you do have to admit it. I think part of me was just like, what the fuck, man? If you're going to get me.
Yeah.
I want to feel like an old man going like.
Those damn kids. Sure, sure. I was like, bro, what are y'all- There wasn't even a flaming bag of poop or anything on the door.
I think part of me wanted to catch them to sit them down and be like, you guys aren't living right.
You're like, let me go with you on the next one.
Yeah, let me just see your form real quick. Oh, stop, cut, cut, back to one. All right, all right. You go back in the house. You go back to the house. Okay, you, bro, you're not built for this, man. Where do you live?
Around the corner?
All right, let's walk you home. You're not ready for this. You two, you got something wily in your eyes, I can tell.
Yeah.
Your parents fight a lot at home?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Okay, okay.
This is good.
This is good. We can build on this. You can come with me. I'm part of the crew now.
Who was that guy who walked you guys home? That was Miles.
He's cool. He's actually really cool. He buys beer for us.
He says he's LeBron's OG. What does that mean? He says he's older than LeBron. Yeah.
This is the first person we've met who's older than LeBron.
They're in the same class, but he's older than him. But they're in the same class. So he's actually one of the bigger kids.
My overrateds. I got two Halloween-related overrateds. One, Halloween songs that conned their way onto Halloween playlists just by having a spooky word in the title.
Dracula's Wedding.
So I was thinking of Demons by Imagine Dragons was one that was circulating. How does that go? It's a, that's where my demons hide. That's where my demons hide. So it's just a song about like a guy being like, I got demons, babe. Like it has no Halloween content whatsoever. No context. But it's just sneaking on because of like a database search essentially.
I say that because we had a playlist like that was algorithmically made and Dracula's Wedding came on. The first I hear it. that guitar come in and i go dracula's wedding but then i realized like the lyrics are about a vampire and stuff like that like lyric yeah tracks but part of me just felt like it's not spooky no that's where i think like uh was it get busy there was that one instagram post we laughed at where they said the organ was real spooky and.
Yeah that's what i'm saying My contrast to this would be Bad Guy by Billie Eilish, which isn't overtly a Halloween song, but it's got that kind of spooky organ and the lyrics are somewhat sinister. So you just take a little bit of time to examine your Halloween playlist and make sure that some shit isn't sneaking on there with Stolen Valor.
Were any kids Imagine Dragons for a costume?
No.
What do you look like at that point?
You just, like, I guess you just look like somebody looking up off into the distance.
Oh, these guys are so fucking normal. What the fuck?
Yeah, they're real normal.
Are they, like, Mormon?
What is this?
Who the fuck are these guys?
Imagine Dragons now.
Dude, these guys look like shit.
Imagine Dragons? I actually have never looked at them before.
Like, look at them.
Yeah. Who the fuck are these? They look like fitness influencers.
The lead singer is unreasonably shredded.
Oh, really? Yeah. Oh, Josh.
Dude, Engineer Josh just confirmed. Ex-moron. I could fucking tell, bro. These guys look like they drink dirty sodas.
These guys grew up in LDS. Yeah, yeah.
They drink dirty sodas. They fucking love Disneyland.
Amazing pool by you. I don't know why. The fuck is this guy Mormon?
The fuck is this guy Mormon?
And that has been a problem when you've shouted that when one of our guests comes into the studio. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Wait a second, is this guy?
No shade, no shade, not at all. You know what I mean?
I know one anywhere.
It's like looking at a golden retriever sometimes. I can just see it.
You can just see that someone... There's like, I don't know what it is. I don't know what the fuck it is.
I think it was because in this picture, they're trying to look edgy, and they're not pulling it off. And that's when I go... Are you like a reformed Christian? Right. Are you like a former youth pastor? Yeah. Okay.
Okay. Yeah, they're giving turn the chair around backwards vibes.
A little bit. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. And like their edgy band is Imagine Dragons.
But shout out to them. They're very popular with children, but also, you know, doing the free Palestine thing at their live shows. Yeah, yeah.
So that's... This is so funny that Singer was also an Eagle Scout. I'm like, of course you were a fucking Eagle Scout.
And that's fine. And that's fine. I love it.
Is your kid trying to be an Eagle Scout? Do they know about that track yet?
Yeah, I mean, they know about it.
Is it a thing they're focused on?
They're mainly sticking in Cub Scouts for the snacks at this point. Oh, you're good. Yeah, so we'll see. Oh, yeah. I respect that calculus. And then my other Halloween overrated is Milk Duds. That's just a pure skip for me.
Dude, it's like shit you pick out of your teeth is what milk duds are. And then you add that into a candy.
I'm mainly in the market for candy that I eat and not candy that wires my jaw shut.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Pulls fillings out.
Every year I'm like, maybe I should give these another- Oh, is that your candy corn? Yeah, maybe I should give these another look.
In the beginning, they're kind of pleasant because the chocolate coating kind of melts.
The chocolate kind of comes off. Yeah, I know.
There's a clash between the- That's called the honeymoon phase.
Yeah. Where the chocolate just all comes off, but it comes off because the caramel on the inside is so impossible to chew on. It's fucked. It's like three-week-old gum or something. Like, it's just a fucking, yeah, impossible. Anyways. I just got to shout out. It's right there in the title.
I got to shout out the guy's child who, like, this year figured out trick-or-treating.
Yeah.
But he doesn't have the same mindset of it's all, like, deferred gratification for the, like, you build your fucking savings and then you blow it at the end of the night. This guy was doing it like he was at, like, a wine tasting. Every candy he got, opened it.
Opened it immediately. Had a bite. Had a little bite. Put it away.
Then gave me the ones he didn't like.
Okay.
And I was like, what about later?
He's like, later? And then go to another one. There is no later.
And I was like, this is actually great. Because the next day, he wasn't asking where it was. Right. He would just see random stuff. And I'm like, oh, do you want some of your Halloween candy?
He's like, oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh, yeah.
But his whole thing was like, bro, I need that shit now. Because everything was new. And he was judging everything. In fucking real time. Like, he's out on Sour Patch Kids. Was he giving you tasting notes?
No, no, no. It's got a leather and tobacco.
He would just go, he would, this is this thing where he coughs if it, like, he acts like it's making him sick.
He'll go, I'm like, what the fuck are you doing?
Well, it's a Sour Patch Kid.
Wow.
But note taken. I don't like it either.
All right. Let's take a quick break. We'll come back. We'll do a little Halloween news roundup. We'll be right back. And we're back. This was a story that happened towards the end of last week, which was so the White House held its annual Halloween celebration on Thursday. And instead of just, you know, hanging up some fake cobwebs and plastic skeletons, they scared the entire city by doing an incredibly low flyover with like one of Trump's Air Force Ones.
Oh, the Qatari bombs.
The bribe one? Yeah, the Qatari one. The bribe one.
Like super low.
Like so low that the FAA temporarily, because obviously he didn't like communicate to anyone that this was happening.
It's like having like a redneck neighbor who's just like, yeah, I'm going to turn the backyard into a shooting range.
What?
Right. So the FAA had to temporarily halt traffic at Reagan National Park. delaying more than 200 arriving and departing flights because they're like, oh, I think another 9-11 is happening.
Wait, they truly had no... They're just like, buzz them.
Yeah. Buzz the tower. Freaked everybody out.
Wow, cool. I mean, that's exactly what you're going to see. You're at a White House event and you see a jumbo jet hurtling towards you. I'm thinking about the people at the... Because this was for the party attendees. I guess, which it's like.
Is the idea to legitimately convince people another 9-11? Was the idea.
Are you Brazilian? Was the idea true?
I'm actually one of Bolsonaro's fans. I'm undercover. But was he trying to... Was it like, oh, Halloween? Okay, that's fear. What would scare people? Another 9-11? Did he walk into the room where they were brainstorming this and write... 9-11 on the board and then put an S and then turn the S into a dollar sign.
Jesus.
9-11s.
9-11, huh?
Huh? What if?
I know that at the Mar-a-Lago party, there were drag people in drag.
Ooh.
Which was really interesting given the state of this fucking conservative movement right now. And caviar is a drag caviar party.
Hell yeah. They get it. They get their base. Yeah.
He looked like shit. Look at him when he arrived at the party.
What's going on with him?
He's just like, yeah.
I don't know.
He's just like opening his jacket. He just looks so... Like, probably the face Elvis made before he died taking a shit.
Yeah. Just like... I've said, like, nobody has ever been more destined to die on the toilet taking a shit than Donald Trump.
Yeah.
I do think they have some things in common, I.
Would just say. But I just.
Just generally, my notes on this would be like, don't do it. But also, that's not... Halloween fear. That's like disaster movies here. Those are two different genres of fear.
Yeah, not existential dread because you live in a country where you're never safe and shit like that. Like, oh, come on. It was a Halloween mass shooting recreation.
Right. For fun, dude. Nobody has a 9-11 themed Halloween party except you.
Yeah.
Anyways, on the costume front, Martha Stewart.
Martha Stewart.
Costume of the year.
What are you fucking doing, dude? She dressed up. Like a fucking seven-year-old's version of a hobo. You know what I mean?
Was that a thing that was happening at your school when you were growing up?
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Bums? Bum.
That was, like, a whole.
Dirty face, top hat with the top, like, half a can opener.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. It was, like, it was basically, like, boxcar hobo mixed with, like, I think our fascination from now seeing, like, Vietnam veterans be, like, homeless people.
Yeah.
Like, that was my... Like I said, I always talk about, like, as a kid, I was like, Dad, what... why are these people living there? And he's like, cause of Reagan.
Right.
I'm like, okay, but why the, but this fucking quote unquote costume she wore was.
Straight out of the like fifth graders. When I was in fifth grade, make an outfit. I'm a bum Halloween costume. Yeah.
Um, So accurate. It's just truly, truly amazing. I mean, the costume is actually from Stewart's new Hobohemian collection on QVC. No, she actually posted this to Hawk Candles that she was also selling on QVC. And people were like looking at her like, oh, so you've got a like kind of shredded up cardigan. You cut a hole in your jeans and you put some dirt on your face holding up a clipboard because presumably she's so rich she doesn't have fucking cardboard near her.
Oh, I didn't realize that. Yeah, it's just a clipboard that she wrote. I am hungry. Help me on. Hilarious.
Naturally, a lot of people in the comments are like, what the fuck is this, dude? Are you out of your fucking mind? Martha Stewart will have us know that we are the assholes because this was about raising awareness.
Wow, I guess you didn't get my costume. Yeah. Huh.
Sounds like you have a problem with homelessness that you're not addressing. Quote, I am distressed that my Halloween costume yesterday, which was intended to bring more awareness to the very serious subject of homelessness— Social epidemic? That's like you're comparing this to vaping.
You know what I mean?
I don't know what it is. All these people want to be fucking bums or some shit. We got to get it together rather than the failings of our whatever. That's fine. You don't know anything because you're so rich.
She truly is. For people who haven't seen the costume, like she does have a cardigan on that she's cut. That cardigan probably costs like hundreds of dollars.
I know. I'm hoping some fashion person can be like, okay, those are... This outfit's $ 3, 000. Yeah, those are Givenchy jeans that she just tore up in a Margiela sweater.
And she has a dog sitting at her feet that probably costs like $ 7, 000. Two purebred dogs. Yeah, yeah.
Which, between them, fuck you.
Standing on the one porch of her multimillion dollar estate that she could probably pretend is not like the, that doesn't have like gold embossing.
I don't, I, what a fucking defense to say I'm raising awareness.
That's what she's doing.
Like how about you raise awareness by like having a record donation to an organization and be like, Just so you know, with my donation, I am raising awareness that to me, I am willing to actually give away a significant portion of my wealth to help other people.
The really sad thing is she might have to do that this time. You know what I bet happened?
She was probably gardening in that cardigan, and it got snagged by a rosebush. And she goes, well, I might as well be a hobo now. I mean, that's how Martha works. Wait a tick, because I never waste an opportunity. Let me dirt my face up. Also, one of the charities she supports for some reason, because I think a bunch of people were like, Hey, she was at a gala for, like, your charity. Like, do you guys do stuff with homelessness? A spokesperson for God's Love We Deliver said, told TMZ, quote, God's Love provides free medically tailored meals to people with life-altering chronic illnesses. It does not serve people experiencing homelessness.
Ah, you know, it's like, in that world, whatever. Those people might as well be homeless, you know? That's exactly what she would be. She's like, oh, they weren't homeless? Well.
I just don't know how homeless people look anymore, I guess. I just don't know anymore. Everything's upside down.
Anybody who would be benefiting from charity to her is like in a category that you can't really differentiate. No, no, no.
No, these are people with renal issues. They have kidney dialysis. They're going through that.
These are tax breaks for small business owners. But I mean, surely you can't live on what a small business owner would make. The other- costume that got a lot of attention was Heidi Klum, of course, every year, but truly has outdone herself with a severed Heidi Klum hand, which she was dressed up as. If you haven't seen it, it's worth a Google. It feels to me like this is a very appropriate costume given... you know, the state of things. There were also people at her party who were like Marie Antoinette posts, uh, head chopping and stuff like that. Like feels like, yeah, I don't know. Maybe this is her channeling something. All the explanations they give are like, no, um, the backstory for this is like,
what if my hand got caught in an elevator? Oh, but it's like her hand is like bejeweled, like has very fancy rings on it.
The ring finger and middle finger as her legs.
As her legs.
I got kudos to that.
It looks incredible. It's a very cool costume.
This makes me, I grieve for the era of practical effects, when people used to make stuff like this.
And now I'm just like, you know what? This is what Stan Winston's doing now.
He's like, I don't know, man. We're staying alive with Heidi Klum gigs every year.
There were other people who were like the ghosts of Versailles. And again, I was like, oh, are they kind of channeling this? And then their explanation for why they were the ghosts of Versailles. We ate at this French restaurant, Pastis, that just opened in Palm Beach, where we're from. So not quite.
Of course, the fucking people at a Heidi Klum Halloween thing are not the fucking proletariat. They're like, ironically, being like, we're the ghosts of Versailles. Nothing like this will ever happen to us. Mm hmm.
All right, let's take a quick break. We'll come back, do some election stuff. We'll be right back. And we're back.
We're back.
So, Haley.
Oh, man.
Haley Stevens, who.
Another Hayley out of Michigan causing a lot of problems.
Who's the other one?
Hayley Jade, bro. Eminem's daughter.
Oh, right.
Sorry.
Millennial reference. Was she the problem?
No, I mean, like, I remember when Ja Rule said her name. That brought Eminem and D12 into the Ja Rule 50 cent battle. For people that remember that.
And now you just. saying her name is probably gonna ring us up.
Cause he's like, your mama's a crackhead, your baby mama's a no slur, so what you think Haley gonna be when she grows up?
Uh-huh.
And then Eminem just went, you ring, and destroyed him. Anyway, Haley Stevens, who talks like this, and that was like, Oh yeah, we're gonna go, oh yeah.
The Democratic Party was like, She's going to kick Abdul El-Sayed's ass. Ass, yeah. And then narrowly lost.
Look at how she talks.
Yeah, she talks like an SNL character.
I know.
I mean, who's not going to like this? So over the weekend, things got wacky in the Michigan Senate race, you probably heard, between Abdul El-Sayed and Mike Rogers. The quick and dirty version is like this. Cenk Uygur ran an ad online with not much of an actual impact in the Michigan race because it wasn't on TV or anything like that, but it depicts a family shopping for groceries online. But when they get to the eggs, the mom tells her kid, don't put the eggs back. And then a man asks, oh, the kids don't like eggs anymore?
And she says, no, they like eggs. But we have to set that $ 7 aside for killing Palestinians. Right. then talks about the cost of like, you know, this is what it means because we're supplying arms to Israel.
Yeah.
You know, essentially again saying everything becoming expensive goes hand in hand with America's support of Israel, the Iran war, et cetera. Right.
This is what we spend our money on. Yeah.
Yeah. This is where it's going. Like we're, we're hearing about that more than we're hearing about, you know, like we're actually just as much as we hear about rural healthcare being gutted. Right. Um, so this became another moment for the establishment and this time with a very vocal lead from Steven's fiance, this guy, Jason Turkish, to scream about Hassan Piker and Abdul El-Sayed needs to disavow this.
And what he does is putting Jewish people in America at risk because of this.
That's his job, by the way, now that he's got the Democratic nomination. He is just professionally disavowed. Got to disavow everything. He wakes up in the morning and has a to-do list of like 40 things to disavow every day.
To him, he was like, look, man, this didn't even, he like distanced himself from the ad being also like, this didn't come from my campaign, man. Like, so- what the fuck and he's like also it just sounds like you guys are trying to relitigate some shit from the primary because that was the thing hayley stevens and i were clashing over when recording people's vote that i was like i'm not going to be a fucking rubber stamp to just send money continue infinitely yeah um And because of that, he's had to disavow everything. Fucking anything that was like Muslim or extremism during the race.
Like, well, what about Hamas? Do you disavow them? He's like, what?
What about the Muslim Brotherhood? Do you disavow them?
He's like, why would I need to?
What about when Cat Stevens changed his name to Yusuf Islam? Do you disavow that? Right. He's like, I have no idea what you're talking about.
You better. It's polling bad. That name change is polling bad. Don't do it.
So- Her fiance, this guy, Justin Turkish, first one to endorse Mike Rogers publicly last week. And many Democratic higher ups called Stevens and be like, you're not about to fucking destroy your career. Right. I don't know what the fuck your little fiance is thinking over here. But like just because his family's from Israel and that like that's clearly what his that's what he's standing against because of that.
Don't make the same mistake and suddenly flip and say you're going to endorse the Republican. She assured, there's so many reports, multiple people are like, I would never do that. I am a Democrat through and through. I can't wait to see the win on Tuesday. You got, don't worry about me. Nothing's ever going to change with me. Then she was supposed to appear at a unity event where Stevens and El-Sayed were going to appear at a black church, like publicly together for the first time to just be like, look, it's all water under the bridge. But then Stevens was asked to not come since it felt like her and her fiance were hyper-focused on trying to drag El-Sayed over this ad. Apparently, Debbie Dingle, who's a congresswoman from Michigan, said,
you know what? I think it's better we keep our distance here for this thing. And because she was disinvited, we don't know what happened. But up to that point, she was telling people, I would never, I'm not going to fuck you. Are you kidding me?
No.
Then she was disinvited. And then suddenly the next morning, we find out she's going to an event with Mike Rogers and released a video endorsing him. Yeah. And being like, I just can't do it anymore.
Yeah.
I don't even want to play. It's just like, it's such an odd, odd, odd moment. But also, I think makes sense.
Yeah. You know? Yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, it's... definitely like she went on Anderson Cooper and he was like, wait a second. Like what happened between this and the, like what happened between when you said you were on the same page about this ad and you like told other Democrats you weren't going to endorse. And then now you're endorsing. And she like is so, she's like, I didn't say I'm going to vote for him. I just said, I'm going to endorse him.
This is such an odd, this whole Anderson Cooper interview is just, fascinating because she, she doesn't even know what she's done or is doing.
Yeah.
Um, which we can speculate as to why after this.
We're on the same page when it came to that ad. And you said that to the congressman at some point last night. What changed other than he had put out that statement and disinvited you from that church service? Was that the angrier part that you're focusing on?
She's averaging three blinks every ten seconds. This is a.
Broader point about what's going on in our party. It's actually not. It's really just a question of why you changed your mind.
We were just recognizing, look, I haven't cast my vote yet.
My neighbors were asking me. So you might change your mind again?
They feel the same way.
Anderson, my mind is made up.
Wait a second.
Hold on, bro. I need a neck brace from the Whiplash. I haven't cast my vote yet, so you might change your mind? Yeah. I've made up my mind.
I've made up my mind, so... Which one? So what is it? I'm rock solid.
I'm an independent woman.
I made my decision.
You know, I still love my party a whole lot.
I know there's a lot of people working really hard on elections all over this country.
Just trying to avoid dealing with what you have done. And by the.
Way, Anderson, but wait a minute, Anderson. Wait, wait, wait.
Because I was a Democrat who flipped a Republican seat here in Michigan.
And this is also about Michigan, all right? This is about, you.
Know, Michigan is a Democrat. What kind of fucking.
She ends by saying, why is it okay to have a top candidate injecting this type of anger and lack of kindness? That's where she lands.
That's where she lands.
The only explanation that she gives is anger and lack of kindness, which is just, yes, I was disinvited from this and it was mean to me and it hurt my feelings.
Or the fact that he's not backing down from being like, I don't know, man. Someone else put out that ad. I'm done with... You know where I stand on everything. We don't need to keep fucking relitigating this shit nonstop. And I mean, again, now that you see like Apex now putting money behind Mike Rogers, they put tens of millions into like her race to defeat El Sayed. It's just like now people are like, what the fuck happened?
Who leaned on you? There's reports that her fiance took her cell phone away and like turned off her phone.
Yeah. this idea of like evil fiance who's like taking over and like, obviously like kind of influenced her in this direction is giving everybody, you can see everything, but like the internet is just like, somebody needs to get Nathan Fielder in there immediately. Everybody made that joke at the same time. That was the first thought I had when I was like reading it as like, Oh, like this is another Billy Evans situation.
Part of me is like, sure. You could maybe blame the boyfriend or whatever, but, I'm also like, let's make no mistake about where the Democrats are. She's a warning to voters who think that just because she party IDs as Democrat, that she's somehow different than a Republican. Because at the end of the day, I think this is where most people are kind of netting out into understanding that both of these parties are there to protect the status quo. And she is a very typical politician. When push comes to shove, she will do just as much to preserve the status quo as Republicans will. It just, it all has different textures based on if it's sort of left of center or right of center. And El-Sayed is running on affordability and not even like in a
socialist way. Like he's come out and been like, I'm a capitalist. Like he's not trying to scare these normie people. And I don't think, and his, based on his policies, he's not trying to go that, like, we're not talking about flipping the table. He wants to do things more equitably, which I think is, you know, commendable. But again, this guy isn't fucking Karl Marx.
Okay.
The Michigan Karl Marx. And, So I think, again, the one thing that he does seem to be absolutely willing to destroy in terms of the status quo is this dark practice of funding wars that kill innocent people.
Right.
And that, again, now you got the defenders of that coming up and chirping up.
And there's a lot of them.
And again, even Chuck Schumer's like, I don't know if the fuck's wrong with Haley Stevens. And Pelosi's like, man, is she out of her fucking mind?
Yeah.
And these people, they're on the same page, you know what I mean, when it comes to foreign policy. But they are not on the same page as Al-Sayed when it comes to foreign policy. But they're still defending it because for them, they see Al-Sayed as a pawn in the larger power game. And they believe that he can be more of a help than hindrance. So they're willing to let the pro-Palestine talk slot.
And that's big of them. That's big of them, you know?
I'm sure they look at it, they're like, okay, well, who else we got that's talking like this in the Senate? Okay, so, like, we might lose a couple, but, you know, these people, they'll do the right thing.
Yeah, yeah.
And so this is why. Now, James Carville is even incensed. That's crazy because that's his whole shit. Yeah, he was just like, I will not be in league with a jihadist ghoul.
Right.
That's not going to happen to me. You're not going to see that from old James Carville.
His objection, though, is so amazing.
This is James Carville who's pissed about this, too, because he's such a team guy that, like, he just, this is unfathomable to him.
Right, right.
I think it was just, I think Alistair Eat offered a one cheeseburger and Rodgers offered a two cheeseburgers.
The only way he can understand politics.
Shit, give me another cheeseburger and I'll give you my soul.
Right.
I mean, lady, if you're going to sell your soul, you got to get more for it than a fucking cheeseburger, okay? I'm just telling you, you got to put some kind of a price on yourself or some kind of a goddamn self-pride.
So his thing is like- So his explanation is just like- Well, she got a cheeseburger.
Fuck it. What's that character from Popeye who ate all the cheeseburgers?
Wimpy?
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Is that what she's doing? Like, can I have one hamburger or two? You got to do it for a fucking cheeseburger, lady.
It's so dumb.
It's so dumb.
If you're going to.
Sell out, you do it for a private jet or something. Or a flat, a pita tart in Dubai that you can do untold terrible criminal things under the protection of the government.
Don't you understand this is how this works?
Come on.
Don't just do it.
For a cheeseburger.
Right.
So she burgered it up. And that's where she's at. Her fucking staff, a lot of them have resigned.
Yeah.
She's, I just.
One of her former staff said, Jason is vaporizing Haley's future so that he can be a main character in this moment. And it is sad to watch her participate in that. He was an extraordinarily toxic presence, was verbally abusive to staff, and had some of the worst political instincts I've ever witnessed.
I mean.
Describing her fiance.
Yeah.
Like one of those instincts could be, That they see, because again, these people are climbers, right? When you're trying to be in big politics, none of these people are like, yeah, I'll go off into the sunset. And from what a lot of other people have said about Haley Stevens, they're like, she can be kind of addictive. And so some people are questioning whether or not she's throwing her weight behind Rogers because then he could be a one-term senator.
And then she could run as the Republican.
And then in six years- she'd have a fucking shot at the Senate seat again. Got it. But I'm sorry, six years is a long time. And right now, the state party has kicked you out. The Democratic Party of Michigan's kicked her out. There's talk at the congressional level to figure out what they're going to do with her.
So who are you going to court? Because if you are, you're going to be, I guess maybe you're just going to primary Mike Rogers as a Republican?
Right.
Okay.
Okay.
After you're saying all this, I'm such a proud Democrat nonsense.
Yeah.
So El Sayed, though, he did raise over $ 1. 2 million in the hours after this betrayal.
So people aren't people aren't falling for it. They're not following her over there. Well, it's great.
It's just weird to see how universally it's because I think even if you're like one of these establishment Democrats, the project is flip the Senate.
Yeah.
And you need every fucking race to go right in order to really make sure that's a reality because it's been demonstrated. been too long since they've been able to flip some seats and so you're seeing people from like both ends of the democrat spectrum have common like common ground over this person is fucked up and i can't believe what she's done yeah um because yeah they see this as a huge blow potentially um when she's you know saying like i think i think he's gonna be he's gonna be good for michigan.
The types of people who supported her were the types of people who are like Well, I just make all my political decisions based on practicality and electability.
Yeah.
Right? Yeah. So they're not going to love this because they're just trying to win. Yeah. Yeah.
But if you look again, so let's take a look at the polls, huh? Because it's one more day. This is- Yeah. I'm saying, look- We don't. We just look at the polls and go, oh, okay. That's what you think.
Interesting.
Been burned too many times. But most pollsters and the prognosticators out there have been really reluctant to put their weight behind what's going to happen in the Senate. Like everyone is like, yeah, the House is pretty much. Seems likely that the House is going to move. We're fine saying that's going to flip.
Yeah. The Senate, we just don't know. We don't know.
And look, we've seen this before. It looks like they're coming so close to maybe flipping a seat, and it doesn't happen. They need four seats to flip, gain a majority in the Senate. I don't know if they're factoring in John Fetterman and knowing what the fuck, how he's going to be, but he's technically on paper a Democrat.
But right now, according to the New York Times Siena poll, this is like the final round of polling, and this is what things look like. In Michigan- El Sayed has a 11-point lead over Rodgers. Tallarico has a 7-point lead over Paxton. In Maine, Susan Collins is underwater 5 points. Sherrod Brown is over Big Booty John by 5 points.
The Michigan one is shocking to me that it's that far and Tallarico.
Yeah.
Wow. Again, these are things you're like, oh, shit. But again, none of it matters if people don't vote. And obviously the fuckery is... That's another part. We don't know what it's going to look like tomorrow.
Yeah, true.
There are plans I've read that like they're... One thing that was leaking was Stephen Miller getting around with like the other legal minds in the White House to figure out how they unilaterally just begin to do things without congressional approval.
Right.
So.
It sounds like there is a contingency plan where they go, all right, yeah, sure, you got the majority, fine, fuck it, whatever. We're playing a different game now called you don't exist or the Constitution. So that's another one. And Russell Vought, who's the main Project 2025 guy, apparently he's looking into ways to use money that's already been approved by Congress but to direct it towards other things that maybe they didn't approve quite yet.
Vought is the guy who's pro-monarchy, right?
Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
That's his whole thing. Cool, cool, cool, cool. Should be interesting out there. Yeah? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Should be. I'd vote. I'm not telling you. I'd say I'd vote.
Yeah, I mean, you fucking have to vote. And the vote is not going to bring about the revolution. The vote is merely to try and just realign the balance of power so it's not just totally avowed ethno-nationalists running roughshod over the country. So, you know, I think make no mistake, elections aren't going to be the thing that completely save this country. However, you always have to look at it as like, What environment do you want to be operating in to try and fight for something better?
Do you want to be fighting full, you know, against full blast GOP fascism or like the polite version of the Democrats do? Because I think it's a little bit easier to navigate that way.
All right. Those are some of the things that are trending on this Monday, November 2nd. We are back tomorrow with a whole last episode of the show. Until then, be kind to each other. Be kind to yourselves. Get your vaccines while you still can. Get your flu shots. Yep. Don't do nothing about white supremacy, and we will talk to you all tomorrow.
