Whether I'm working with a singer, or interviewing someone on a program, or curating music for Alianza del César, or putting together a program, a festival for the Arts on Preservation Society, for me it all comes down to communication. It really is at the heart of what I do, and transmitting information, making it accessible. What I am trying to do is just create a space, a space for communication, musical communication. cultural communication. For upcoming Season 7, Episode 2, Art Song, Human Connection, I interviewed a longtime supporter and friend of the show, Blair Boone -Migura, vocal coach, pianist, and founder and executive director of the Art Song Preservation Society of New York. We talk about
ASPSNY's 17 -year journey, the Summer of Song Festival, its next chapter after 10 years at Manhattan School of Music, and so much more. I think art song trains us to inhabit someone else's inner world. their inner landscape, because you have another human being's experiences, whether it be joy, grief, longing, all of that, and you're asked to take part in it. And it's not that opera doesn't do that. Opera is much more demonstrative.
It's about the spectacle. And song is so much more personal, so much more intimate, and takes so much more of an imagination. Join us for the YouTube premiere on Tuesday, October 20th at 8pm Eastern Time. The audio episode will also be available wherever you listen to podcasts.
