From the St. Ignatius Chapel at the Manresa Jesuit Spiritual Renewal Center in Pickering, Ontario. The National Catholic Broadcasting Council presents the Daily TV Mass.

Welcome to the celebration of the Daily TV Mass. I'm Father Ernie DeCicho. The televising of this Mass is made possible by the contribution from an anonymous donor from Scarborough, Ontario. This Mass is offered in loving memory of Tyrone Wong for all the deceased members of the Wong family and for all the unborn.

May his soul and the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace. Amen. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

The Lord be with you.

And with your Spirit.

My dear brothers and sisters, as we gather today to celebrate this Mass, let's take a moment first to thank the Lord for the many blessings that He has showered upon us. And we also acknowledge our human weakness, our faults, and ask the Lord for pardon and for peace. I confess to Almighty God and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinned in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done and in what I have failed to do, through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault.

Therefore I ask Blessed Mary, ever virgin, all the angels and saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God. May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life. Lord have mercy. Christ have mercy. Lord have mercy. Let us pray. Grant we pray, Almighty God, that always pondering spiritual things, we may carry out in both word and deed that which is pleasing to you.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever.

unknown Amen.

A reading from the letter of Paul to the Ephesians. My brothers and sisters, be subject to one another out of reverence for Christ. Wives, be subject to your husbands as you are to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, just as Christ is the head of the church. The body of which he is the Savior.

Just as the church is subject to Christ. So also wives ought to be in everything to their husbands. Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her in order to make her holy, by cleansing her with the washing of water by the word so as to present the church to himself in splendor without a spot or wrinkle or anything of the kind.

Yes, so that she may be holy and without blemish. In the same way, husbands should love their wives as they do their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hates his own body, but he nourishes and tenderly cares for it just as Christ does for the church. Because we are members of his body.

For this reason, a man will leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife. And the two will become one flesh. This is a great mystery. And I am applying it to Christ and the Church. Each of you, however, should love his wife as himself, and a wife should respect her husband. The word of the Lord.

Happy are those who fear the Lord Alle. Blessed are you, Father, Lord of Hem. You have revealed to the little ones the mysteries of the kingdom.

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke. Jesus said, What is the kingdom of God like? And to what should I compare it? It is like a mustard seed that someone took and sowed in the garden. It grew and became a tree, and the birds of the air made nests in its branches. And again Jesus said, To what should I compare the kingdom of God?

It is like yeast that a woman took and mixed in with three measures of flour until all of it was leavened. The gospel of the Lord. And in today's gospel, we get a couple of descriptions that he gives of what the kingdom of God is like. And the images that he uses really point to the fact that the kingdom of God is not something instantaneous, immediate, but something that slowly grows.

Of course, Jesus initiated things by his coming among us and sharing our life and suffering and dying and rising again. But we have not yet attained the fullness of that kingdom. Do we believe that the kingdom is growing as we journey through our life? Things are not perfect yet, are they? They will be once we get there to our eternal home.

But for now, we're waiting for that kingdom of God to slowly grow. Jesus talks about the mustard seed that becomes like a tree. Does that happen overnight? No, it does not. It takes a long time for that seed to take root and blossom. And again, even the yeast that's mixed in with the measures of flower.

It takes time, maybe a little faster than a mustard tree, but still takes hours and hours overnight. I'm a big fan of science fiction novels and movies. And I dream of the day when we can realize what we've seen in some of the shows. Where you're in your room and you press the button, and up comes out the beautiful meal, fully made.

In a second. You don't have to wait to order it. You don't have to wait for it to be prepared. Quick and easy. Quick and easy. That is not how it happens with the kingdom of God. We have to wait. And don't we all just love waiting? I should write a book called The Joy of Waiting. It might sell maybe three copies if I'm lucky.

Nobody wants to wait. You ever end up at the supermarket and you're waiting in line? And it could take a while if some customer ahead of you has 200 items they got to pay for. The same with the bank. I keep telling them you should have a time limit for the customers. Five-minute time limit. Because some of these high maintenance people will show up and want to spend half an hour talking to the teller.

Quick and easy. We want everything so fast. Wasn't it wonderful when they invented fast food? You could go to the restaurant and bang, it was served up in a matter of minutes. Now it's not even as fast as it used to be. We all lack patience. We don't have it for the bank, for the supermarket. We don't have it for God.

God has been working since the beginning of creation. And even though he rested on the seventh day, God never closes his eyes. Because God is still at work. Building that kingdom that Jesus Christ, his only son, was able to initiate. We can't wait to see it in fullness. When everything will be made right at last, when there won't be any more wars or violence or hatred or division or sickness or poverty.

We can't wait to see things finished, ripe, fully grown. We need to ask God to give us patience, waiting on our God, who's not asleep, who's working at building that kingdom. But we can't expect God to do it all either. While we're waiting, we have a duty and responsibility to work alongside the Lord.

What are we doing to build up the kingdom of God? Well, it's called plain and simply works of charity. Those works of kindness and love that we can do every single day, towards family, friends, co-workers, strangers even. That's our part in building up the kingdom of God. And every time we do those kind actions, or even offer a kind word, the kingdom grows.

It does. And maybe there's bumps along the way, because things keep happening. And yes, the faith is always under attack. But we never give up. We continue to do our good work without getting tired of doing it. Working alongside our God. God who has to be patient with us. How patient is God? God who never gives up on us.

So then let's learn to be patient. Let's learn to wait. Not expect things immediately like in the science fiction novels. Let's simply trust that things are going in the right direction. No matter what negativity we have to face, things are going in the right direction. The kingdom of God is growing.

Like that mustard seed. And one day we will see it fully grow. And we'll be like those birds that can make nests in its branches. So don't give up. Don't lose patience. Keep on waiting. And trust. Trust that what the Lord has begun will come to its fulfillment. And now let's offer our prayers to the Lord our God.

First, we pray for all those in our daily TV Mass Prayer Intentions book. We pray to the Lord.

unknown Lord, give our prayer.

During this month of the Rosary, October, we pray that families may gather in prayer, finding in the rosary a source of strength, unity, and love for their daily lives. We pray to the Lord.

unknown Lord, give our prayer.

We always pray for peace in our troubled world, for an end to war and violence, for an end to hatred and division. For peace also in our families, and for peace in our troubled hearts, we pray to the Lord. For the unity of all Christians, and for the reconciliation of those who have wandered away from God, we pray to the Lord.

For all those who are sick or suffering, whether in body, mind, or spirit, especially those in hospitals and nursing homes, perhaps confined to their own homes. For those dealing with chronic illness or terminal illness, we pray to the Lord. For our loved ones who have died. May they rest in the peace of Christ.

We pray to the Lord. Loving God, we ask you to hear all of our prayers, those we have spoken and the many more that we hold in our hearts, and answer us with your mercy and with your love through Christ our Lord.

unknown Amen.

Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation, for through your goodness we have received the bread we offer you. Fruit of the earth and work of human hands, it will become for us the bread of life. Fruit of the vine and work of human hands, it will become our spiritual drink. As we celebrate your mysteries, O Lord, with the observance that is your due, we humbly ask you that what we offer to the honor of your majesty may profit us for salvation through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

The Lord be with you. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is truly right and just our duty and our salvation always and everywhere to give you thanks, Lord, Holy Father, Almighty and Eternal God. For just as through your beloved Son you created the human race, so also through him, with great goodness you formed it anew.

And so it is right that all your creatures serve you, all the redeemed praise you, and all your saints with one heart bless you. Therefore, we too extol you with all the angels, as in joyful celebration we acclaim.

Blessed is who comes in the name of the Lord, who are indeed holy, O Lord, and all you have created rightly gives you praise.

For through your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, by the power and working of the Holy Spirit, you give life to all things and make them holy, and you never cease to gather a people to yourself, so that from the rising of the sun to its setting, a pure sacrifice may be offered to your name. Therefore, O Lord, we humbly implore you, by the same Spirit, graciously make holy these gifts we have brought to you for consecration, that they may become the body and blood of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, at whose command we celebrate these mysteries.

For on the night he was betrayed, he himself took bread, and giving you thanks, he said the blessing, broke the bread, and gave it to his disciples, saying, Take this, all of you, and eat of it, for this is my body, which will be given up for you. In a similar way, when supper was ended, he took the chalice.

And giving you thanks, he said the blessing, and gave the chalice to his disciples, saying, Take this, all of you, and drink from it, for this is the chalice of my blood, the blood of the new and eternal covenant, which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this in memory of me.

Save us, saviour of the world, for by your cross and resturation you have set us free.

Therefore, O Lord, as we celebrate the memorial of the saving passion of your Son, his wondrous resurrection and ascension into heaven, and as we look forward to his second coming, we offer you in thanksgiving this holy and living sacrifice. Look, we pray, upon the oblation of your church. And recognizing the sacrificial victim, by whose death you will to reconcile us to yourself, grant that we who are nourished by the body and blood of your Son and filled with His Holy Spirit may become one body, one spirit in Christ.

May He make of us an eternal offering to you, so that we may obtain an inheritance with your elect, especially with the most blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, with Blessed Joseph her spouse, with your blessed apostles and glorious martyrs, and with all the saints, on whose constant intercession in your presence we rely for unfailing help.

May this sacrifice of our reconciliation, we pray, O Lord, advance the peace and salvation of all the world. Be pleased to confirm in faith and charity your pilgrim church on earth. With your servant Leo, our Pope, and Francis, our bishop, the Order of Bishops, all the clergy, and the entire people you have gained for your own.

Listen graciously to the prayers of this family whom you have summoned before you. In your compassion, O merciful Father, gather to yourself all your children scattered throughout the world. To our departed brothers and sisters, and to all who were pleasing to you at their passing from this life, give kind admittance to your kingdom.

There we hope to enjoy forever the fullness of your glory through Christ our Lord, through whom you bestow on the world all that is good.

Through him and with him and in him, O God Almighty Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor is yours forever and ever.

Amen, Amen, and now let's join together in prayer, using the words our Savior Jesus Christ has given us.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil.

Graciously grant peace in our days, that by the help of your mercy we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Glory are yours now and forever.

Lord Jesus Christ, who said to your apostles, Peace I leave you, my peace I give you. Look not on our sins, but on the faith of your church, and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will, who live and reign forever and ever.

unknown Amen.

The peace of the Lord be with you always. And with your spirit. Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb. But only say the word and my soul shall be healed.

I love you above all things, and I passionately desire to receive you into my soul. Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, come spiritually into my soul, so that I may unite myself wholly to you now and forever. Amen.

Let us pray. Grant, we pray, Almighty God, that we may experience the effects of the salvation which is pledged to us by these mysteries through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

The Lord be with you.

And with your spirit.

May Almighty God bless you, the Father and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Go in peace, glorifying the Lord by your life.

Thanks and speak to God.

Our thanks to our donor for the gift of this Mass.
