From the St. Ignatius Chapel at the Manresa Jesuit Spiritual Renewal Center in Pickering, Ontario. The National Catholic Broadcasting Council presents the Daily TV Mass.

Welcome to the celebration of the Daily TV Mass. I am Father Peter J. Troy. The televising of this Mass is made possible by the contributions from two donors. The first is the estate of Joseph and Lalita de Souza. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace.

unknown Amen.

The second is an anonymous donor from Ontario, in thanksgiving to the Lord and St. Jude for blessings received for him and his family. Our thanks to our donors for the gift of this Mass. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

And with your Spirit.

Brothers and sisters, let us call to mind our sins and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries. I confess to Almighty God and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinned in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done, in what I have failed to do, through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault.

Therefore I ask, bless in Mary ever virgin, all the angels and saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God. May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life.

Amen.

Lord have mercy. Christ have mercy. Lord have mercy. Lord have mercy. Glory to God in the highest. And on earth peace to people of good will. We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory. Lord God, Heavenly King, O God Almighty Father, Lord Jesus Christ, only begotten Son, Lord God, Latin God, Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.

You take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer. You are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us. For you alone are the Holy One.

You alone are the Lord, you alone are the most high Jesus Christ. Amen.

Let us pray. O God, who by the Blessed Apostles have brought to us, brought us to acknowledge your name, graciously grant through the intercession of Saints Simon and Jude, that the church may constantly grow by increase of the peoples who believe in you. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God forever and ever.

Amen.

A reading from the letter of Paul to the Ephesians. You are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are citizens with the saints and also members of the household of God. Built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets. With Christ Jesus himself as the cornerstone. In Christ. The whole structure is joined together and grows into a holy temple in the Lord.

In whom you are also built together spiritually into a dwelling place for God. The word of the Lord.

Day to day parts forth speech and night to night declares not. The message goes out through all the earth. Their voice is not heard, yet their voice goes out through all the ears, and their words to the end of the world. The message goes out through all the We praise you, O God, we acclaim you as Lord the glorious company of apostles praise you allelujah.

The Lord be with you. A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke. Simon, whom he named Peter, and his brother Andrew, and James and John and Philip and Bartholomew, and Matthew and Thomas, and James son of Alphaeus, and Simon, who was called a zealot, and Judas, son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.

Jesus came down with them and stood on a level place with the great crowd of his disciples, and a great multitude of people from all Judea, Jerusalem, and the coast of Tyre and Sidon. These multitudes had come to hear him, and to be healed of their diseases, and those who were troubled with unclean spirits were cured, and all in the crowd were trying to touch him, for power came out of him and healed all of them.

The Gospel of the Lord. Even though I don't write every day, my journal captures all the ups and downs of my life. When I feel sad or upset, or feel worried or anxious, I sit before this blessed sacrament and write my journal. When I feel joyful and thankful, I write those things in my journal too. As I reread my journal from time to time, I realized that I'm actually getting better at accepting disappointments and disappointments life brings.

And I'm learning to trust God more and more. I also learned that when I am faced with obstacles and challenges in life, I have a tendency to feel helpless and overwhelmed. This is a trait that people who suffer from early childhood trauma often experience. I realized that I've been getting a lot better at handling them as well.

I realized all my challenges eventually got resolved every single time. It didn't always meet my expectations. The deadlines I imposed or the way I wanted them to be resolved. When I looked back, I realized God's always been in charge. I think being a disciple of Christ isn't really about seeking perfection, but having the willingness to grow, which always demands change.

In today's gospel, after spending the entire night in prayer, Jesus called twelve disciples. Choosing to follow Jesus meant that they had to leave behind their professions, their family and home, their possessions and worldly comforts. But even when we follow Jesus, our habits, old habits, die hard. As they were following Jesus, they had not parted ways with their worldly ambitions.

I'm sure we remember James and John asking to be seated at the right hand of the Father in God's kingdom, a place of honor and glory. Jesus taught them true greatness comes from serving others rather than seeking power. The mission of Christ is meant to put us at the service of each other and to work together.

During the FIFA World Cup, in the quarterfinal match, Norway was winning 1-0 against England. Towards the very end of the first half, a Norwegian player Alexander Sorlat had the ball with two defenders surrounding him, while his teammate Erling Haland was wide open. If he had just passed the ball to his teammate, Haland would have scored an easy goal.

But Alexander struggled to score a goal for himself and failed. That mistake was costly. Norway lost to England 2-1 during overtime. The point that I'm trying to make is sometimes we forget we are on the same team. When one scores, then the entire team wins. There's nothing more counterproductive than competing against each other when we are on the same team.

We are called to see the big picture. That is the one mission of Christ, and become united in the mission. The only reason we will be victorious is not because of what you and I have done, but because of what Christ has done. St. Simon and Saint Jude were under the shadow of more prominent saints like Peter, Andrew, James, and John.

Those four inner circle disciples were invited to places when others were not. When Jesus was talking with them, the other disciples were made to look like mere observers, supporting actors at best, if not extras on the movie set. How unflattering to be described as Jude as not Judas Iscariot and Simon as not Simon Peter, and being forgotten for many centuries because of the mix-up.

Just because we don't know much about what Simon, St. Simon and St. Jude did doesn't mean that God doesn't know. St. Simon and St. Jude, and many others who are in heaven that we know nothing about, faithfully carried out the mission that was important for God while not drawing attention to themselves or caring about recognition.

I heard heard this story about the former Under Secretary of Defense who gave a speech at a large conference. He took his place on stage and took a pause and took a sip of coffee from his styrofoam cup. Then he took another sip, looked down at the cup, and smiled. Then he began his speech. You know, I spoke here last year.

I presented at this same conference on this same stage. But last year, I was still the undersecretary. I flew here in business class, and when I landed, there was someone waiting for me at the airport to take me to my hotel. When I arrived at my hotel, there was someone else waiting for me. They had already checked me into the hotel, handed me my key, and carried my back up to my room.

The next morning there was someone waiting for me in the lobby who drove me to this same venue. I was taken through a back entrance shown to the green room and handed up a cup of coffee in a beautiful ceramic cup. This year, as I stand here to speak to you, I'm no longer I'm no longer the undersecretary.

I flew here in economy class. There was no one waiting for me at the airport. I took a taxi to the hotel, carried my own bag to my room. This morning, I took a cab to come here. When I asked someone in the backstage if there was any coffee, he pointed me to a coffee machine. I walked over and poured myself a cup of coffee into this styrofoam cup.

Then raising the styrofoam styrofoam cup to the audience, he continued. It occurred to me, the ceramic cup they gave me last year was never meant for me at all. It was meant for the position I held. I deserve a styrofoam cup. All the perks, all the benefits and advantages you may get for the ranks or position you hold, they aren't meant for you.

They're meant for the role you've filled. And it's not permanent. One day you'll be replaced, and the world will move on. And one day you will no longer be holding a ceramic cup in your hand, but a styrofoam cup. Let us remember the lesson from this styrofoam cup. The world will love you for what you can do and not for who you are.

But God loves you for who you are. Even though what we do for God's kingdom may go unnoticed here on earth, what we do for the kingdom of God will be forever remembered and celebrated in God's heavenly kingdom. Let us offer our petitions to God our Father. For all those in our daily TV Mass Prayer Intentions book, we pray to the Lord.

Lord Heart. Let us pray that during this month of the Rosary, families may gather in prayer, finding in it a source of strength, unity, and love for their daily lives. We pray to the Lord.

Lord he are prayer.

We ask our blessed mother to intercede for us for our needs. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

unknown Amen.

Heavenly Father, we have presented to you all our needs, confident that you love us and you always hear us through Christ our Lord. Amen. As we venerate the perpetual glory of the holy apostles Simon and Drew, O Lord, we ask that you receive our prayers and lead us to worthy celebration of the sacred mysteries through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

The Lord be with you. Lift up your hearts. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right and just it is truly right and just our duty and our salvation, always and everywhere, to give you thanks. Lord, Holy Father, Almighty and Eternal God, for you eternal shepherd, do not desert your flock, but through the blessed apostles, watch over it and protect it always, so that it may be governed by those you have appointed shepherds to lead it in the name of your Son.

And so with angels and archangels, with thrones and dominions, and with all the wholesome powers of heaven, we sing the hymn of your glory as without end we acclaim.

Holy Holy Lord God of hosts heaven under the Father of Glory Hot in the High Christ. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.

You are indeed holy, O Lord, the fount of all holiness. Make holy therefore these gifts we pray, by sending down your spirit upon them like the dewful, so that they may become for us the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. At the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion. He took bread and giving thanks, broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, Take this, all of you, and eat of it.

For this is my body, which will be given up for you. In a similar way, when supper was ended, he took the chalice and once more giving thanks, he gave it to his disciples, saying, Take this, all of you, and drink from it. For this is the chalice of my blood, the blood of the new and eternal covenant, which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins.

Do this in memory of me has to be whole faith, save us, Savior of the world, for by your cross and resurrection you have set us free.

Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection, we offer.

For you, Lord, the bread of life and the chalice of salvation, giving thanks that you have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you. Humbly we pray the partaking of the body and blood of Christ, we may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit. Remember, Lord, your church spread throughout the world, and bring her to the fullness of charity, together with Leo, our Pope, and Francis, our bishop, and all the clergy.

Remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection, and all who have died in your mercy. Welcome them into the light of your face. Have mercy on us all, we pray, that with the blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, with Blessed Joseph her spouse, with the blessed apostles and all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages, we may merity be co-airs to eternal life, and may praise and glorify you through your Son, Jesus Christ.

Oh God Almighty Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor is yours forever and ever.

Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray from every evil. Graciously grant peace in our days, that by the help of your mercy we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Lord Jesus Christ, who said to your apostles, peace I leave you, my peace I give you. Look not in our sins, but on the faith of your church, and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will, who live and reign forever and ever.

Amen.

Peace of the Lord be with you always. Let us offer each other the sign of peace.

You take away the sins of the world. Have mercy on all of God you take away the sins of the world. Grant.

Behold the Lamb of God. Behold him who takes away the sins of the world. Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb.

Please join me now in this act of spiritual communion. My Jesus, I believe that you are present in this holy sacrament of the altar. I love you above all things, and I passionately desire to receive you into my soul. Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, come spiritually into my soul, so that I may unite myself wholly to you now and forever.

Amen.

Having received this sacrament, O Lord, we humbly implore you in the Holy Spirit that what we do to honor the glorious passion of the apostles Simon and Jude may keep us ever in your love through Christ our Lord. The Lord be with you.

And with your spirit.

Go in the peace of Christ.

Thanks be to God.

Our thanks to our donors for the gift of this mass.
