From the St. Ignatius Chapel at the Manresa Jesuit Spiritual Renewal Center in Pickering, Ontario. The National Catholic Broadcasting Council presents the Daily TV Mass.

Welcome to the celebration of the Daily TV Mass. I'm Father Hank van Meijel. The televising of this Mass is made possible by the contribution from three donors. The first is Marianne Margrow from Toronto, Ontario, in loving memory of her husband Emmanuel Margrow, who passed away on October 30, 2022. Her son James Margrow, who passed away on September 30, 1994, and the deceased members of the Margrow and Portale families, in Thanksgiving for blessings received for their five children, five grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and their families.

The second are the Carvallo, Pavo, Cordillero, Viviero families from Toronto, Ontario, in loving memory of Ricky and Lourdes and for all the deceased members of their families, for the young generation to return to the church in Thanksgiving for blessings received and for world peace. The third are the children of the Gatti Kavanagh family to celebrate the life of their mother on the day of her 64th birthday.

They honor their mother and her wish to sponsor this Mass. The Mass provided her hope and a way to participate in her faith when attendance in person was not possible. May she rest in peace. Our thanks to her donors for the gift of this Mass. In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Amen. The peace of the Lord be with you.

And with your spirit.

And as we have placed ourselves before the Lord on this Thursday, again recalling our own weakness, our own need for God's guidance. You were sent to heal the contrite of heart. Lord have mercy. You came to call sinners. Christ have mercy. You are seated at the right hand of the Father to intercede for us.

Lord have mercy. May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life. And let us pray. Grant us, O Lord, we pray, that the course of our world may be directed by your peaceful rule, and that your church may rejoice untroubled in her devotion. True, O Lord, Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever.

Amen.

A reading from the letter of Paul to the Ephesians. Be strong in the Lord, and in the strength of his power, put on the whole armor of God, so that you may able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For our struggle is not against enemies of blood and flesh, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers of this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.

Therefore, take up the whole armor of God, so that you may be able to withstand on that evil day, and having done everything to stand firm, stand therefore, and fasten the belt of truth around your waist, and put on the breastplate of righteousness as shoes for your feet, put on whatever will make you ready to proclaim the gospel of peace.

With all of these, take the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. Pray in the Spirit at all times, in every prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert, and always persevere in supplication for all the saints.

Pray also for me, so that when I speak, a message may be given to me, to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it boldly as I must speak. The word of the Lord.

Who trains my hands for war and my fingers for battle? Blessed be the Lord my Lord is my steadfast love and my fortress, my stronghold and my deliver, my shield in whom I take refuge, who subdues the peoples under me. Blessed be the Lord my rock I will sing a new song to you, O God upon a ten stringed harp.

I will play to you the one who gives victory to kings, who rescues his servant David. Blessed be the Lord Hessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord. Glory to God in the highest and peace to God's people.

And with your spirit.

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke. Some Pharisees came and said to Jesus, get away from here, for Heroid wants to kill you. Jesus said to the Pharisees, Go and tell that fox for me, listen, I'm casting out demons and performing cures today, tomorrow, and on the third day I finish my work.

Yet today, tomorrow, and the next day I must be on my way, because it is important for a prophet to be killed. It is impossible for a prophet to be killed outside of Jerusalem. Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets, and stones those who are sent to it. How often have I desired to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her broad under her wings, and you were not willing.

See, your house is left to you, and I tell you, you will not see me until the time comes when you say, Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord. The Gospel of the Lord. And it is to be in the first reading of St. Paul. Saint Paul really talks to the Ephesians about putting on the armor of God, putting on the armor of God.

And it is so important in our secular world to put that armor of God on, to know who we are. It is so interesting how the secular world can squeeze slowly in our lives and we lose our identity really as Christians. And it really came to the forefront, actually. Paul writes this from Rome when he was in chains to the Ephesians to remind them that how that to be strong in God and not to lose any hope.

And it's so easy that can happen in our secular society, which we are inundated with daily. We just have to look at the media, the TV, the advertising, what they tell us, the social media, the comparing ourselves with others, and so on. And it really was driven home to me not too long ago on a visit to my family in the Netherlands.

And a family member who insisted that I took a family crucifix home with me to Canada. And what really struck me, there was very good people, they've been active in the church, they go on Sunday to mass and they do the Sunday duty. But also when they were trying to give me that cross, they I look around the house, they had a brand new house, I look around, not a sign of showing that there were Christians.

Not a sign. Beautiful art, you know, modern art, and I sometimes look at modern art, it's me, I'm from the farm. I look at modern art and I say, huh, what does this mean? But not a sign of Christian identity. And it's so easy, in a sense, they I think they were embarrassed to show that they were Christians, that they're Catholics, and so on.

And it's so easy to kind of trying to fit in into the sacral culture and forgetting that we're called to be a sign of Christ in the secular culture. And it's it's not that they made major decisions all of a sudden, but it's clear as I come back in my visits over the years, that there's a gradual change, a gradual refocusing on what is material, what is the world, and away from really knowing that we're Christian and that God calls us.

And so it's so important to have that armor of God, as St. Paul is talking about, to put that armor of God on and to know who we are, and to really foster that personal relationship with Jesus, that personal relationship with God, and let everything flow out of that personal relationship. But if we let our secular world slowly slide in there, we're gonna lose everything that we had hoped for.

And nothing has changed in 2,000 years, as St. Paul is writing to the Ephesians, writing to put that armor of God on and not to be afraid, to live a good life and to work to uh uh holy conduct and to uh to reconciliation with our boundaries, to be there for others, to be acceptable of others, and especially again in our secular world where there's continuously a grow to uh make divisions between different people, different immigrant populations, but to know that God, just like St.

Paul is writing to the Ephesians, that God is a God of all people. And we have to show that in our actions. Actually, today on the Universal Calendar we celebrate Kira Bendano. She died in 1990 at age 18. A sign, she knew who she was. Although she was 18 years old, she knew who she was in God, a tremendous sign to God.

And actually, at age nine, she joined the Fouclero movement. It's a movement which is really a universal movement to promote God. And at age 16 she was sad. She said actually. I discovered that Jesus forsaken is the key to unity with God, and I want to be ready to welcome him when he comes. I prefer him above all else.

16 years old, she had already a personal relationship with God, she knew who she was, she had that armor of God on. And so shortly after, I think at age 17, she was diagnosed with a rare bone cancer, and it really affected her, of course, and it was incurable. And what is interesting, as people came to see her to comfort her, it was the other way around.

She knew who she was and she comforted those who visited her. Everything got turned around. She was a sign of Christ, and she lived it out to the fullest. And actually, her desire was in the end to be buried in a wedding dress, a bride of Christ, a girl who's 18 years old, who's basically not even a full adult who shows us the way to God and to have that armor of God on.

Thank you. Amen. Let us bring our prayers before the Lord. We pray for all those in a daily TV Mass Prayer Intention Book. We pray to the Lord. Let us pray that during this month of the Rosary families may gather in prayer, finding in it a source of strength, unity, love for their daily lives. We pray to the Lord.

This month we pray with Pope Leo that the mental health ministry be established throughout the church, helping to overcome the stigma and discrimination of persons with mental illness. We pray to the Lord. We pray for all whose faith has been weakened by the teachings of our secular society, that they will find renewed faith in the teachings of Holy Mother Church.

We pray to the Lord. And for these prayers and the prayers in the silence of our own hearts, we lift them up to you, Lord. Amen. Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation, for through your goodness we have received the bread we offer you, fruit of the earth and work of human hands. It will become for us the bread of life.

Blessed is God.

By the mystery of this water and wine, may we come to share in the divinity of Christ who humbled himself to share in our humanity. Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation, for through your goodness we have received the wine we offer you, fruit of the vine and work of human hands. It will become our spiritual drink.

Humble spirit and contrite heart may we be accepted by you, O Lord, and may your sacrifice in your sight this day be pleasing to you, Lord God. Wash me, O Lord, for my iniquities, cleanse me of my sins. Thank you. Pray, my sisters and brothers, that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to God the Almighty Father.

May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your ends for the praise and glory of his name. For our good and the good of all his holy church.

O God, who provide gifts to be offered to your name and count our oblation as signs of our desire to serve you with devotion, we ask of your mercy that what you grant as the source of merit may also help us to attain merit's reward through Christ our Lord. The Lord be with you. Lift up your hearts. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

It is right and just it is truly right and just our duty and our salvation always and everywhere to give you thanks, Lord, Holy Father, Almighty and Eternal God, for just as through your beloved Son you created the human race, so also through him with great goodness you formed it anew, and so it is right that all your creatures serve you, all the redeemed praise you, and all your saints with one heart bless you.

Therefore we too extol you with all the angels, as in joyful celebration we acclaim.

Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord Hosanna in the highest.

You are indeed holy, O Lord, the fount of all holiness. Make holy therefore these gifts we pray by sending down your spirit upon them like the dofall, so that they may become for us the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. At the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion, he took bread and giving you thanks, broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, Take this all of you, and eat of it, for this is my body which will be given up for you.

In a similar way when supper was ended, he took the chalice and once more giving thanks, he gave it to his disciples, saying, Take this all of you, and drink from it, for this is the chalice of my blood, the blood of the new and eternal covenant, which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins.

Do this in memory of me. The mystery of faith.

Save us, Savior of the world, for by your cross and resurrection, you have set us free.

Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection, we offer you, Lord, the bread of life and the chalice of salvation, giving thanks that you have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you. Humbly we pray that partaking of the body and blood of Christ, we may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit.

Remember, Lord, your church spread throughout the world, and bring her to the fullness of charity, together with Leo or Pope, Francis or Bishop, the other bishops, the clergy, and the entire people you have called your own. Remember also our sisters and brothers who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection, and all who have died in your mercy, welcome them into the light of your face.

Have mercy on us all. We pray that with the blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, with the Blessed Joseph, our spouse, with the blessed apostles and all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages, we may merit to be co-heirs to eternal life, and may praise and glorify you through your Son Jesus Christ.

Through him and with him and in him, O God, Almighty Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor is yours for ever and ever. Amen. And at the Savior's command, informed by divine teaching, we dare to say, O Father, who are in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day your daily bread and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not but deliver us from evil.

Deliver us, Lord, we pray from every evil. Graciously grant peace in our days that by the help of your mercy we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Lord Jesus Christ, who said to the apostles, peace I leave you, my peace I give you.

Look not on our sins, but on the faith of your church, and graciously grant our peace and unity in accordance with your will, who live and reign for ever and ever. Amen. The peace of the Lord be with you always spirit. And let us offer each other a sign of peace.

Lamb of God you take away the sins of the world. Have mercy on us Lamb of God you take away the sins of the world. Grant us peace.

Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb. Lord I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.

May the body of Christ keep us saved for death.

Please join me now in this act of spiritual communion. My Jesus, I believe that you are present in this holy sacrament of the altar. I love you above all things, and I passionately desire to receive you into my soul. Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, come spiritually into my soul, so that I may unite myself wholly to you now and forever.

Amen.

Nourished by your saving gifts, we beseech your mercy, Lord, that by this same sacrament with which you feed us in this present age, you may make us partakers of life eternal through Christ our Lord. The Lord be with you. And may Almighty God bless you, Father, Son, Holy Spirit. Amen. Go in peace, glorifying the Lord by your life.

Thanks, be to God.

Our thanks to our donors for the gift of this man.
