Hi, everyone.
Miss Jean here with another mini adventure series. The weather is cool in Discovery Mountain, and it looks like Olivia is at the library looking for a book to cozy up with. As she selects a book, she also discovers an unexpected adventure, one that will exercise her faith, but she'll need some help with it. This is part one of this four-part series called Lead On. Let's head to the library for today's episode called Hidden Thanks.
Thanks, Elsie.
This book looks good. Hi, Addison.
Hi, Mrs. Olson. Are you ready to check out your book?
Yes, and you aren't a student at the academy anymore. You can call me Olivia.
Okay, I can try that.
Well, hello, favorite sister.
Only sister.
Hi, Jake.
Hi, Addison.
Natasha asked me to return these books for her.
Thanks, Jake.
What you reading, Olivia?
Oh, it's a book about Alaska from the 1980s. Lots of beautiful photos.
Look. Nice. Oh, look.
Somebody left a bookmark.
We find all kinds of interesting things in books. Let's see.
It isn't a bookmark, exactly. It's a flyer for what looks like a youth group activity.
Lead on Scavenger Hunt, Discovery Mountain Youth Group.
The paper is aged, and the font looks like it's from the 80s.
Look at that fine print. Harmony Corner Church, September 10, 1986.
Oh, cool. An old scavenger hunt from 40 years ago.
The Discovery Mountain Youth Group was cool even way back then.
Of course, Jake. We're always epic.
I wonder what the scavenger hunt was for. It says, lead on, one clue at a time.
Must have had a faith exercise.
Yeah, but what? I hope they had fun.
Wonder what their first clue was.
Look, there's another bookmark.
Could it be?
Oh, Jake, you're brilliant.
I know.
Wait, is it an actual clue? Yes, look.
The same font and paper type.
Clue number one.
Look for Thanksgiving where broken things bend.
No, thanks-for-giving.
Look for thanks-for-giving. Where broken things mend. That's a bit cryptic.
Thanks for giving.
Hmm.
I don't know.
Where broken things mend? Where could that be?
Hmm. The repair shop in Grizzly? Nah.
A youth director wouldn't send the youth off to Grizzly Mountain. Especially not back in those days.
What ounce breaks and needs to be repaired besides cars?
Plumbing breaks. Cupboards break. But then a repair person comes to you.
Bones break.
Jake, that's it. The hospital.
Brilliant.
That's me. Fun. If this were 1986, we'd run right over.
Well, I've got to run right over to the Harmony Corner Church. I have a meeting with Reader.
See ya.
See ya, Jake.
You don't think the next clue is still out there, do you?
I mean, it's been 40 years. The clues would have to be hidden in things that were around back then. It's not possible, right?
It's unlikely. It's unlikely. But impossible?
Should we?
I'll grab my coat.
Lead on to the hospital.
I know, Elsie. It's wild, but fun. Help the library customers, all right?
Look for thanks for giving, not Thanksgiving.
And something that has been here since the 1980s.
Hey, guys.
Cyrus, you're just in time to help.
What's your medical emergency?
Youth group emergency.
Look, we found a flyer from a scavenger hunt from 40 years ago.
Oh, fun.
Lead on.
The first clue said to look where broken things meant. And we think it might be the hospital.
Oh, clever.
Would the next clue still be here?
This hospital is sanitized top to bottom daily. A piece of paper wouldn't just be lying around for 40 years.
Yeah, it's unlikely.
Unless it's inside or behind something.
Okay, now I see. Let's see the clue again. Look for thanks for giving.
Look around. What's been here since the 1980s and is thanks for giving?
We have a lot of donors who give money to support the hospital.
And how are they thanked?
Lots of ways, but... Oh, look, down that hall. I have to get back to the lab But I think your answer might be down there.
Thanks, Cyrus.
Down this hall?
There are plaques hanging on the wall. Oh! Oh, donor thank you plaques. Look for 1986.
2000s.
1990s.
1980s.
Here.
Here, 1986. There are three, but a note couldn't fit inside a plaque. Look behind them. Did they tape it to the back?
Let's see. No, nothing.
Too bad. Wait, wait. If this hunt was in 1986, these plaques might not have been hung up yet. We need to try 1985. Just one for 1985. It's to a Harrison family.
It says, And behind it?
Olivia!
No, a clue?
It's still here after all these years.
What does it say?
Look beyond the platform where student voices are raised.
Look beyond the platform where student voices are raised.
The next clue couldn't be out there still, could it?
Only one way to find out.
Lead on.
A scavenger hunt from 40 years ago.
This is a fun adventure for Olivia and Addison. They're working together, found Cyrus to help, and are having to use their powers of observation.
Will they find the next clue?
Well, the Bible verse on the plaque showed thankfulness to the hospital supporters. Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, for His mercy endures forever. That's Psalm 107, verse 1. We can give thanks to God for His generosity every day. Join us back here next time as the scavenger hunt continues.
