Welcome back to Gil's Arena, presented by Poly Market and powered by Playmaker.
We're not late, y'all. Just early.
And we appreciate y'all for that. We were trying to build some tension, some anticipation as we start this lovely show on this glorious hump day here in the arena. This is Gil's Arena. I'm your host, Josiah Johnson. I'm here with NBA legend, 2K Uncle Badges, Theater King, and non-Zendaya Gilbert Arenas.
She hot. It's hot tea. Where am I at? Now's the day. Oh, hey. You've been really upping the wardrobe. I told you, man. It's slaker season, baby. We white now. Dressing white for the Lakers. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Yeah, this is gated community, Lakers, now. All right? We don't want any of your niggas in there no more. Yeah, go to the Clippers if you want all that thuggish type of talk. Oh, you said gated community. We gated, gated, Lakers.
He said gated. Relax. He said gated. Relax. I heard it, but I had to listen for it. Relax. He said gated community, Lakers. Relax. The gated community.
I know y'all like to mishear things, like you did on the show yesterday. Gated community, Lakers.
Hey, Bron, go. Yeah, I'm sorry about the Ohio. Get your asses back over there.
Joining us on the show today, former college player of the year, number two overall pick who played 10 seasons in the league, Evan Turner.
Welcome back to Gil's Arena. Boy. Yeah, boy.
And we got NBA champion of the world, and when he's not here, you can catch him on his Shump Street podcast.
Iman Shumpert, back in the arena. Thanks. What's going on here? Shump Street. You know what? You know what? You get parked on 21 Shump Street. 21 Shump Street. Get parked over there, dog. Get parked. You know what I'm saying? Emergency break.
You hear me?
Stop playing, dog. Down, down, and in. Up, up, and away. You hear me? You can see what the mood is like today on the couch.
It's going to be very festive and fun. Shout out to our production staff, our lighting team.
You know it.
They're living glorious. I'm about to knock my water over again. Not two days in a row. But we got a lot of things to discuss. Here's what's cracking in the arena today. Kawhi was impressive in his Raptors preseason debut against a starterless Knicks squad. Does the all-NBA wing make Toronto a legit threat in the East this season?
Tyrese Halliburton returned to.
OKC for the first time since suffering his Achilles injury in the 2025 Finals.
Put on a show.
Will Halle put the Pacers back in contention? And Steve Kerr says the Warriors are not anywhere close to where they want to be. But is this fading dynasty doing 30-dirty in the twilight of his career? Steph pointed to them, telling them where they need to go.
Hit the road.
Go find me another all-star. But mostly fans, back for our super chat. Throw something in the offering plate and drop your questions. We'll pick something to answer at the end of the show. We appreciate y'all for all the love and support. Y'all been asking great questions.
Keep it going.
But hey, I need to tell y'all about this new trading, this new sports trading app I discovered.
It's called PolyMarket.
It's the most exciting way to trade in sports, and it's a nationwide, federally regulated prediction market. Polymarket is the best prediction market, better than Couchy, DraftKings, and FanDuel in the past. If you wanted a position on a game, you'd put your money in and get locked in until the very end. But Polymarket lets you trade games like you would a stock. buying in and selling out entirely on your terms. When your team drops to 20 cents, you buy the dip. And when they jump to 40 cents, you sell, lock in your gains, and double your money without waiting for the final whistle. And it isn't just sports.
You can trade on culture, news, and current events. Plus, they have a squads feature where you can talk and trade with your friends and Any trade a member places drops right into the chat as a card, and anyone can hit buy to take that same pick in one tap. Dish the old limitations and trade on your terms. Download the Polymarket app and use code ARENA. And when you deposit just $ 10, you'll unlock $ 25 in bonus funds. That's code ARENA to get $ 25 in bonus funds when you deposit $ 10 on Polymarket. And shout out to all our Twitches out there. Gil's Arena everywhere you want to be.
If you're watching the show on Twitch, make sure you subscribe to AtGillsArenaShow, and we appreciate y'all for the subs and all the love. All right, let's get into it. We're a little behind. We've got to catch up. We're going to start the show in the sixth, where Kawhi Leonard made his highly anticipated preseason debut. It was his first time in a Raptors uniform since leading the franchise to their only chip in 2019, and it was the first time Toronto played a preseason game with their expected starting lineup, which included All-Star four Scotty Barnes, R.J. Barrett, Emmanuel Quigley, and Yaka Poteau taking on a New York squad without any of their starters. Either way, the Claw showed he still knows how to ball and was running
through the Knicks with his woes. And you know how that shit goes. Let's take a look at the highlights if we can, please.
Paolo.
It was an emotional return for the Claw who received a standing ovation from the home crowd when he was introduced during starting lineups.
See Kawhi back in Toronto. Kawhi did work.
In his 17 minutes of action in the first half. Getting buckets, doing what Kawhi does. He finished the game with a game-high 21 points on 6 of 12 shooting. Scottie Barnes added 19.6 rebounds and 4 assists while shooting 80% from the field.
R.J.
Barrett had 17. And Colin Murray-Boyles, big off the bench in his 16 minutes. 19 points, 9 rebounds on a perfect 7 for 7 from the field. He was 2 for 2 from 3 as well as the Raptors put their preseason belt So the Knicks dominated every facet of this game. Like I said, Knicks didn't have any starters.
Doesn't matter. New York yet to win a preseason game, defending their championship, dropped to 0-4 as they deal with contract situations and other things going on. But this was Kawhi's night. With a nice double headband, a double wide. Getting to it efficiently like Kawhi knows how to do. We're going to start with you. What did Kawhi show you in his preseason debut with the Raptors?
He still got it. I think last season when he was with the Clippers showed a lot about who he was. The past couple seasons he's been able to play 60 games a year, but even how the Clippers started last year, we didn't think they were going to make the playoffs. They traded off James Harden. We thought the season was completely over and Kawhi had his best season yet. I think it's not so much if if he can do it, but when he can do it and if he's going to be available through the injuries. But I like the Toronto Raptors roster aside from Kawhi because they have an identity of defense. You know, obviously they have a pretty good offense that helps them. But even last year, they landed around fifth or sixth and was able to neutralize,
you know, they're able to neutralize opponents, but they weren't at the playoff level. And I think when you see at the half court, watching this offense now, You have a guy that you can throw it to that can score in any type of situation, score off pick and rolls, score off the post. And it's gravity on the court.
I think I've always said at a certain level, Kawhi has won like 68% of his games in the NBA, which is unbelievable or somewhere around there. And one thing I always said was like, he's so great because he can go up against anybody and drop 30, that he can stop your man that's scoring 30 and take them out.
And I think that really sets the tone of the game. So I think, you know, In certain situations, it's not about the X's and O's. It's about the Jimmy's and Joe's. And when Kawhi is on the court, he's already showing he can win.
I want to say Kawhi won 71% of his games in the regular season.
So that is absolutely the OD. Till this day, it's crazy.
62% of his playoff games. That's insane.
What's that sound? I mean, I always joke, and I'm like, bro, that It sounds like, not Jordan, but it sounds like a superhero. Say you went up against, I mean, you go up against LeBron, KD, back in the heyday, it's like, yo, he can literally lock you up.
No, but it's like, bro, he got a 71% chance of winning. It's O-D, bro.
That's insane. I'm cool with 44. Real talk. I'm pulling the trigger with 44. I'm pulling the trigger. I think I'm straight with 44.
Give me two.
That's an insane stat. We should test that with a lot more people.
That's crazy. Oh, to see who's winners and losers?
I'm just saying, like, the gravity of somebody, like, why we don't test that.
I've never even thought to think of it like that. So before we even do that, what is considered a winner if your percentage is what? You win. No, I'm just saying. So if you're into what? For your career. You got to be 50 ball. With no ring. You got to be. No ring, 50 ball, you're a winner.
You got to be at least a 51%.
50.1%. You see what I'm saying? 50.5. Hey, 50.5, you with us. 50.5, you considered a winner. You're a winner.
You did more winning than losing.
You did more winning than losing. That would be damn near everybody they consider a loser, though. What? 50% of your games you won.
Think about it, though.
Why you out here losing? Russell's considered a loser. Them triple-double years, they get 58%. They was over 500. I know, I know. They were over 500. I know. That's what I'm saying. So he would be considered a winner? He is. Over 500.
They take 42 wins out of 40. Oh, no, no, no, no.
I get what you're saying. You understand what I'm saying? He being funny.
Because anybody can win 42 games.
He being funny. He's saying, like, a winner as in, like, they want a chip? No. No, you're a basketball winner. That's what I'm saying. Yeah, yeah. Oh, this nigga's a loser. He a loser because he can't win. There's winners and then there's champions. I applaud that. That's what I'm saying.
And I even get what you be saying about like niggas that's the top niggas on the team that it's like they championship means more. And it's like, bro, we all know that they are in a total different pool. Like, Me and Nick, we in a different, you know what I'm saying? Like, our rigs mean something different. But we know that as players.
Huh? We know that as players. You got to remember, media has separated. Everybody knows.
I don't know what media watching what the fuck ever. If you don't know that my ring is a part of a team and being the best in my role, as opposed to the nigga that.
If we lose, you jagged this year.
Like, I don't, niggas ain't going to point at me during that championship and be like, you failed.
You can't do it. You get what I'm saying? So it's like that responsibility. Unless you do something in the moment. That they can blame on it. No. No. Like when J.R. Smith did. When J.R. Smith.
We was mad that he did it. Everybody was disappointed. That ain't the reason they lost.
Of course not. The fuck out of here.
If you was watching the game, there's no way you felt like that's the reason they lost.
But you villainize them. for an offensive rebound. It was funny. Nobody thought they was going to get it. That's the NBA Twitter world. He did a positive. He got the offensive rebound. Nobody thought he was going to get it. It wasn't his responsibility to call a timeout. It was everybody's. It was really his responsibility. Everybody, no! That's what I told him. When I talked to him, I told him, you J.R.
Smith, if I'd have saw you get that goddamn rebound and didn't shoot it, I'd have cursed you out all the way to the timeout.
But that too. All the way to the fucking timeout. I'm thinking about like this. Don't you ever try and be somebody different. I watched it so many times and it's like... He was trying to do the right thing. It was a hustle play. You know, you're sitting there going in and you actually get the shit. Once you got it, oh shit, I got it. And you, in all concept of the game, went out the window because...
LeBron didn't call a timeout. T. Lou didn't call a timeout. Nobody called a timeout because I'm pretty sure nobody said, yo, if we get this bitch. Call a timeout. What we do. They wasn't trying to call a timeout.
Low key, if anybody else would have saw JR in that moment, nobody would have thought JR would have thought to call a timeout.
Shoot that bitch. That's what you do. JR usually gets that bitch. Your body, boom. You got to understand time, game.
But the first time JR thought, that's all that happened. For the first time, instead of trusting his instincts, think about how many times It was a no-business shot that he shot.
He made it, but we talked it. We called it a bad shot.
He's a bad shot maker. We did all that dumbass shit to him. Now he get in the big stage, and he like, bro, let me think about this.
I ain't going to lie to you.
For the first time.
And it's like, in hindsight, yeah.
I'm like, oh, damn. It came to me. I got me.
But if all your career we were saying you were a bad shot taker and a bad shot maker, you would have thought too. The pressure ain't there when it's you in a regular uniform. When you with Braun, it's what he's saying, where it's like the gravity of it. If you fuck up now, the optics that are on Braun, they're going to talk about this shit over and over and over and over. And now they do have a scapegoat if they want to. But if you watch the game, you're like, nigga, Y'all could have won that game eight times.
Did anybody say anything to George Hill for missing the free throw? Yeah, but to be completely honest with you. But no, no, no.
No, no, shout out to George Hill. I know George Hill.
Shout out.
Him going one for two was a win.
I'm not going to. Are we like, we need it from you. My fault.
Can I get my theory? For JR, this is what I really, really believe, bro. And I love George Hill to death. He's an illness, bro. Great dude, great family. I believe when he got fouled, everybody was like, damn, G, like. George trying to miss this motherfucker.
You know what I mean?
So that's what I thought. And I love George. So when we go there and when you go to the line, I think once he made one, everybody relaxes. Like, bro, I thought he was going to miss both. So when you sit there and I think J.R. Smith was like, hey, once he made one, we're up one. That was a win. And I think that's why he took it and dribbled it out. In my personal opinion. Because he made it.
You're like, oh, shit, we won. No, no, no, we won because he was expecting. He expected him to make the next one. He was expecting him to miss. I thought he was expecting him to miss both. He wasn't going to make both. We're going to foul. Oh, got it, got.
It, got it.
Once he made one, I think J.R. said, oh, okay, we're good.
It's set.
I think he relaxed, in my opinion.
The whole team relaxed. When he hit, he tied? No. He made the first one, missed the second one.
He made the first one to tie the game, and I think missed the second one. Tied a 107 with the first free throw.
Right, but it was... No, they were down one. They went up one when he made the free throw. They were down one.
So you were down one, he tied it with the first free throw, and then missed the second free throw with the score tied.
Got it, okay. I thought it was down one. I thought they were down two. Missed one, down one. And they got the offensive rebound.
That's what I'm saying. No, there's down one. He go to a line. He could have won that joint. He made the first one. Missed the second one. Swish grabbed it. Pause.
Ran out. You know. Pull it up, Gary. Listen, listen. Because you got your guards up front. You wasn't anticipating the offensive rebound.
So he made the first one to tie it. Then he missed the second one. 4.7 seconds left. But that's what I'm saying. Look who's up top. Look who's down there rebounding.
Right?
Let me pull it up, Gil. Oh, trust me. You don't have your offensive rebounders down there. You got a guard down there because you're thinking he's going to miss both. We're going to foul. So we're going to pick up full court. We're going to pick up full court, hurry up and foul. So Bronham is back there, and we got a guard. And the nigga get the rebound. That's what I'm saying. He get the rebound. It's like, oh, my God. Oh, my God. Well, I'm telling you. And everybody just froze. Oh, shit, we got it?
Yeah, I just think it was just a brain lapse, man.
But it's everybody. It's Swiss with a cocked back rock, and I'd have been on that bench. I'd have been like, shoot that bitch!
On my side, shoot that bitch! If you try to lose, you're not sitting there, oh, shit, we got over here. Hey, it's up to the coach.
Time out.
It's up to the coach. Nobody was thinking about it.
That's why J.R. should have been shooting that bitch. It's up to the coach, my nigga. Shoot that fadeaway. Shoot that fadeaway. Fall into the stairs. Let the clock.
I think they all just kind of... I just think they all just didn't realize... They just didn't realize they had the ball. And when they realized it, because he dribbled all the way out... Oh, shit! Bogus position on George Hill. I'm just saying. He's bogus, though. He made the one to tie it, though. Yeah. Hang on, bro.
No pressure on him. Snitch on my dog. I never realized.
No, you didn't realize that, bro? When he got fouled, I remember telling the homies.
It was J.R. Smith and Tristan Thompson rebounding. LeBron, Jeff Green. I think we're back. How many fouls did LeBron have? See, he was bouncing. He got it. He was like, oh, shit.
Ron was blue down. But he had a 50-point triple-double that game, didn't he?
A 51-8 night. Yeah, that's crazy, bro.
Ron was blue down, buddy.
Okay, so back to Kawhi. Thank you. Thank you, girl.
As we tend to do on this show, it's season five.
Yeah. Yeah, J.R. was supposed to take one dribble this way, go this way.
Would you guys like to know your career winning percentages? I'm in the 50s.
I'm not. I wonder if I'm a winner or a loser.
So, Shump, you won 60.5% of your regular season game.
61%. You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? I'm a winner. You won 50.5%. Oh, that's all right. I'm a winner, baby. Barely. Let me know, Gills. Damn.
Gill, when it comes to your career winning percentage, you did not win 50% of your game. 65%, 70%.
45.8%. Damn.
Hey, you a good shooter.
Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. I mean, he's already on the car. We jumped in. We jumped in. It's cool. You had to drive.
I thought he was going to be fair. I thought he was.
Going to be fair. No, I thought the nigga was going to be fair, but he wasn't. Okay. I'm the nigga now, girl? Yeah, yeah. I ain't got no name. So how are we doing this? Are these games I played or the team I was on? Game played. Game played. Game played. You had to be in the game. Yeah. Dude, I got to be in the 60s. Remember?
45.
No, never. I got to. Because remember my first year, my first year I didn't play. Okay. I only played the end of the season. And then my second year. Oh, did they do games active? If they did games. No, games played. GP. How many games did I play? You played 47 games. No. 0-1-0-2 season. Yeah, yeah. And what was my record then? 21%. My what? What you mean?
Win percentage.
Who did they have y'all match up against?
Next year, we're 46.3%. 43? 46.3%. 46? Okay. How about that 30? 50.5. In Washington, 0-3-0-4-6? How many games did I play? You played 55 games. Whoa! Okay, I was hurt a little bit.
31%.
But I was hurt. The next season, you played 80 games, 55%. Okay, that's what I'm talking about. The season after that, you played 80 games, you were 500. Okay, that's what I'm talking about.
The season after that, the 06-07 season, you played 74 games, you were 53%.
Damn, really? That's what I'm talking about. My nigga balling. Okay. Then it was the 07, 08 season. That's where we stop at right there. That's where we... 53%, 55%. Just give me about three years, my nigga. In your peak. I don't need all the other years. Them struggle years. Why you doing the struggle years No, that's real. You doing my first year. That wasn't my team.
That's like when I played first.
You're not lying. On rebuilds. Oh, yeah, you count. How about the Memphis shit? Oh, man. He had to drive. We was in the car. Yeah, no, you know. I told you. No.
I had plenty of games that we were supposed to lose, and Melo just put the halo on.
I'm over here looking at somebody. He's like, oh, dang. Bro, go put the cape on. That's funny.
It was like 60, 50. Yeah, I'm talking about 50, 50.
You were like 53% good. Oh, it's 53? 53. 53 without the bag. Yeah. Woo! So I'm a winner when I got good knees. I'm a winner when I got good knees. You know what I mean?
Or like DeMarcus said, when you got a good team, you good. No, I wish you could have been here yesterday. Bro, I saw... Oh, my God. The pastor came through. I'm like, man, I wonder what they said.
Like... Because he was just screaming. I'm like, damn, dude.
I'm glad y'all didn't ask his with a percentage that it didn't go left. Bro, he would have said, bro, I want to eat his ass.
Nope, nope. Wait for him to be here. Don't do that. Don't do that. Wait for him to be here.
DeMarcus, I ain't got shit to do with this, bro. Pull that shit up, bro.
Pull that shit up, bro. I know he's got to live here.
That don't count.
He was drafted to the Kings. That's beyond his control. That's not in his control. That's not in his control.
Hey, you know, this is what I be telling niggas, though. I'm like, bro, everybody wanted to go number one.
I wanted to go number one. I wanted that responsibility. The niggas that got the responsibility.
I wanted to go number seven.
Huh?
Golden State.
What'd you say?
I said when I was drafted back in a day. You was number two. I was number two, but if I would have looked back on it. No, no, I'm saying you're number two, though. Or went number seven, like, just a better matchup. I'm just saying, you had the keys to the car. Yeah, I still had the keys to the car, but I'm just saying. Yeah, you got keys to the car. I never got the keys to the car, is what I'm saying. Like, niggas be mad. They'll, like, be like, but I.
Had this, I had... Like, nigga, wait. I wanted that responsibility. Why you... Yeah, I was.
Why you saying you needed more niggas like me to not have the responsibility?
Nobody gave me the keys. They seen how I was driving when I did have a little bit. Nuts. I was a horrible passenger. He is nuts. Backseat drive up, kicking the seat. Hey, man, where we going? So when I got to Washington, I said, all right, here you go. To the Ferrari? Yeah, I'm about to wreck this shit.
Hope y'all got this shit.
You was killing it, though.
I did what I did. You was so wild, man. I'm just saying.
You really feel like when they gave you the keys to the car, you wasn't a responsible driver?
The 15th man, I brought guns to the gym. 13th man, guns to the gym. Allegedly, allegedly. 10th man, guns to the gym. Starter! Allegedly. No, it ain't no allegedly. He's talking about his jump shot, y'all. No, the shit I had, I got my ass whipped as a... He's saying the gun jump shot that he had. I got hazed. I got hazed by gangsters.
Yeah, that was an old school NBA.
Did they have gangster etiquette? But look, I thought that was normal because they all had them. What? I mean, guns. You were merely exercising your second amendment. It was normal. It's the second amendment. Yeah.
No, I'm talking about the locker room. So they had a first amendment. I mean, the locker room is wild. The very second one is we need our hitters. I mean, the locker room, you're.
A wild kid. I'm coming in. That's what I'm seeing. Yeah. Because that's just like going downtown, Oakland, put them in the locker room. Yeah, that's real. Go to the club. Come back to the locker room, get it, go to the home. So it was like this is what the stop was to go to the club and then come home.
So exercising your constitution. Oh, right. Like a proud American. So back in the day, what happened is, let's say they're going to the club that night. Remember, the club is downtown where the gym is. They'll go, bring their stuff, put it in a locker. Then go to the club. Put what stuff in the locker? Their guns. Their weapons.
The fuck you put the gun in the locker for the club for? Because they didn't want to drive it to the club, club. Might get pulled over for drinking, anything. I'm so confused. So instead of having their weapon with them in the car when they get to the club, They stopped, put it in the locker. Why the fuck do you have the ride?
How far is the club from the spot?
It's supposed to be on your lap. You know, niggas just hold it, just hold it. I don't know. I don't ask. Niggas got guns to be cool. They're for safety.
They're literally for the ride when you leave the club to go home.
That's what it's for. What the fuck you got to go get it for? It's like suburbs. It's suburbs. So they're thinking a little bit more. Like, I don't want to get in a shootout. I really don't. But that's the perfect place. That's where the robbery is going to happen. Yeah. You think we're going to rob somebody in the fucking...
But you say we. Don't you? You refer to your Chicago... Not at all. That came out wrong. Okay, I'll just. I can see how that. Okay, you know what I'm saying? Hey, Chad, I can see how that could get misconstrued. Before some street, before. Okay, before George the Tech and Russell. Okay, before that. Not even before none of that. I don't rob people.
But I'm saying if I was going to do it, I'm just saying that would be dumb to go rob in a place that.
I'm living in. You know what I'm saying? Like, if I'm going to rob, I'm going to be underprivileged. Why would I rob the underprivileged? The people with money. Usually, by the time you got home, they'll follow you home. Huh? Remember back then, they'd follow you home. So you go to the gym, boom, boom, all right, come on out.
But if somebody's going to follow you home, they're going to follow you home to get, like, they know what you got at the crib.
Yeah.
We can use a girl for that. We don't need the, you know what I'm saying? You hear that?
I'm learning a lot.
No, no, no.
You're making moves, huh? I'm not doing that. You get what I'm doing. I know what you're saying, but that fridge is coming out. Hypothetically.
I'm playing devil's advocate. I'm putting myself in the shoes of the criminal. You get what I'm saying? I'm just saying, I don't understand why. Because for me, safety is a big deal.
When I saw a gun, it was never.
I seen guns where it was like these days where you see the kids flashing guns. Like guns to me always been like kids overdoing it and a grown ass man be like, hey, hey, hey, relax. Everybody shut up, sit down. And we go, okay, okay, you got it. You know what I'm saying? Or you pull that out to do some bullshit. But it's like if you got money, of course you would need it because the bullshit is coming your way. It's not because you're looking for it.
The bullshit is coming your way.
Why would you think that you don't need to have it?
I don't know if we think that, but the bullshit is coming your way.
Only if you bring your bullshit.
That was my whole problem with the John Moran situation. I'm mad that he was flashing it online. But don't sit here and be like, why are you hiring security? Because security could rob you.
You got 200 M's? 100 M's? Why wouldn't you have it? You a grown ass man? You got kids? If your kids call you, you gonna call the police and wait the 20 minutes? Motherfucker. I know I shouldn't have it. You gotta be a grown man. I'm just saying. I know why. You don't need to have it on some bullshit.
But I'm saying like to protect your grounds, to protect the acres that we live on. It's like these people have money. Like it should be assumed that we have firearms. It should be assumed that we want to get home safe. It just don't do no dumb shit. You know what I'm saying? But the people that need to have the guns are the smart people with the money. Yes, the ones that don't need to do no dumb shit at all.
They literally only have it if the worst shit in the world happens.
Those are the people that need to have firearms. So I know who I was if I didn't make it to the NBA. Here you go. Gilbert, who would you be if you didn't make it to the NBA? Why ain't no line? Showing my shit for no reason. Just showing it online for no goddamn reason.
Listening to the NBA young boy. Holding it by the bottle. I ain't with people who do that.
Why ain't Dilly?
All right, so let's get back to Kawhi Leonard, which was the initial. Man, he got his gun back.
He has his. He definitely got his gun on him. Do his thing.
But, Gil, you watch Kawhi. What did you think about Kawhi making his preseason debut? with the Raptors first time since 2019 in the six.
When you say I watched Kawhi. Yeah, you're a student of the game. Are you lying to the audience like I really watched Toronto Raptors? You are a student of the game. Oh, you mean up there? You keep saying that, Gil, but you are a student of the game. I don't want them Torontoans thinking I actually watched them because we're beefing right now. We've been beefing since the Wizards versus the Toronto. You got a problem with Toronto? I wish I could have a problem. I don't know why they mad Drake said my name. The king of Toronto said my name. So relax. It's like, it's like, yeah, it's like I'm better than the rest of y'all. It's basically what he was saying. Cause he didn't mention it. Um, he looked good. It's, it's, it's quiet, man. It's like,
I've never, we've never really seen Kawhi like not perform.
Right.
Like he's, when he's on that court, he is stellar. He is playing at a very, very high level. And, you know, it's going to go down sad when, you know, people who watch him is going to be debating his career with only the evidence we have. Saying he's the first ballot in the Hall of Flamer and he only played half his career. If he didn't play half and he had a full career like everybody else, he will be here in history. And that will be the argument with him. That he was... that good in just a short period of time for somebody who played as long as he did. But when he's out there, he's a marksman.
It's incredible.
I mean, you can always say he's always top five for real.
Always. When he's out there in the court, yeah.
Anybody, you know what I'm saying? I think he just always gives your team a chance to win because much like Jokic, he kind of figured it out. Great players make the game seem slow and they play at their own pace and it's not even so much a system because he knows how he's hooping. It's almost like with Kyrie, it's like, bro, I am the system. We're going to play We're going to flow, and everything is going to go through me, pause. And now when you sit there, you're going to go on the other end of the floor, and defensively, they're going to be dynamic.
Continue to sleep on this Raptors squad. Toronto looking to build on their 2026 season. Ended with a game seven loss against Cleveland in the first round.
We're fifth in the East.
Obviously, they got Kawhi to pair with Scottie Barnes, R.J. Barrett, creating a solid wing trio. We're supporting Casper, Emmanuel Quigley, Yaka Poto, Colin Murray-Boyles, who's looked good. Jamal Sheed, 19th overall pick. Alan Graves, amongst others. So fifth in the East last season. It feels like the time is now for the Raptors. Evan, I want to ask you, what do you expect from this Raptors squad with Kawhi this season?
In a tougher Eastern Conference, I would say, than we saw last season.
I'll give Kawhi, he'll definitely get a top six seed. And I pulled a wild card. They'll at least make it out the first week. The first week?
The first week. So they're not going to get swept? I think, no, I think they'll make it to the second round. First round, okay.
I think they'll make it to the semis, the Eastern Conference semifinals.
So you feel like top four Eastern Conference team wants playoff time?
Second round action. So when you said six, you know six play three, right?
I think Kawhi can do whatever, bro. I'm just saying, if anybody's able to do it, even before, shout out Zaza Pachulia, before he took Buddy Ankle out back in the day when they're playing versus the Warriors and they're about to take them out there. I think Kawhi has those big game moments. And as well as anything else, if you average 35 for a week, anything can happen, bro.
You know what I mean?
And those guys are that talented. I'm not, Kawhi ain't showing up putting up 20 or no stinkers. Kawhi's going Jordan mode, 90.
50, 40. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Nah, yeah.
And when he get going, bro, you see a bunch of people get nervous. Like get, Shockingly nervous, bro. So I'm just saying like no moment. So when it get real cool, I throw in a 40 something.
Also I'm taking everything he can he put out there and I'm gonna change my stance. You're actually off They don't they don't they gonna make it in a game seven And I first round they made the game server first row lesson they gonna make it back to the game seven and In this round. In this game seven.
It's just going to be a harder game seven. That's it.
So Kawhi game seven, what could stop a Kawhi game seven, you believe?
His teammates? His teammates. His team, man.
If you throw up 45, like, shit.
It depends on who the three seed is, Shreddy. What you talking about?
But I'm just saying, even, absolutely, but do you think... What you talking about? Who could beat Kawhi? But I'm saying.
The three seed? Yeah.
But I'm saying, like, Miami Heat, like, what would take that?
Like.
All night. That's what I'm saying.
Who's gonna have to be in that... Yeah, yeah.
Who would be, like, when you're saying, like, game seven, it'd be dangerous.
It might be... It might fuck around and beat the Knicks. It could be, yeah. Which... It could be fucking Rambi Philly. Y'all go, y'all ask. Like, Knicks, Philly. I love Kawhi to death. Miami. I would like to see it.
It's just, I don't think Jalen Brunson going to lose to Kawhi in a chess match at the end.
You know why? Because the other four on his team can't shoot the ball. Jalen Brunson don't give a fuck who's shooting it. No, I'm talking about on Toronto. Toronto's problem right now is starting four, they're not consistently good at shooting. They're going to have to be. They're about to be.
But they're bottom five in attempts and all that.
Even their balance.
Have you seen their floor balance since Kawhi's? That's the first thing I saw. Their floor balance looked correct now. Now they run the actual lanes. They're going to sit there and do that every time. You're going to have Kawhi and Scottie running late. If Scottie get the fucking rebound or Kawhi get the rebound, you got them pushing.
You got Quickly on the side. You got Barrett on the side.
It's like it makes sense. Scottie Marks playoff record. That ain't no brick, dog. You forgot R.J. Barrett pulled it out. He pulled it out a hat last year in the playoff. But consistently throughout the season. I don't need you to do it.
Y'all going to be top four, top five, C, whatever.
Cool. I need you good for a week. But I need you good shooting for a week.
Kawhi is going to be good for the whole series and then the next series and the next series. I need Quickly on one series. I need Scottie Barnes the next series. I need R.J.
Barrett the next series. But, Gil, you look at the issue with that. Shoot!
What I'm saying, but do you think Kawhi. We talked about this the last time, though, bro. Dudes that don't shoot threes know how to hoop without shooting threes. Nobody try to do that shit. And will Kawhi garner a double team at any point? Yeah.
All right, cool. The way they shoot, I'm doubling. Yeah, yeah.
When Scottie Parner attacks the paint. Like we said last playoffs, he's averaging eight assists per game.
His assists are going up. Chuck shot 38% from three in that first round series. But the biggest issue for the Raptors in the last season was Brandon Ingram being inconsistent, having shooting issues. You replaced Brandon Ingram with Kawhi Leonard now.
Right. That was the only reason. Four and eight, one and four, zero, one, zero, zero, zero, five. That was the rest of the shooting in there. On the tee. You got Mr. 50% cool. Then it goes 24, 0-1, 0-0, 0-5.
Don't put no names on that.
I'm not going to put no names.
That's guys that know their game. They're staying out the way.
That's not what I mean. 0-1. End of the half. Unless you don't know how to play the game of basketball, which obviously the Knicks... Hey, listen. Good luck. Because That was the AAU team y'all put out there yesterday. And some of them should even be in the game. The IQ is horrible. You're right. Like, can you pull it up again? Let me show you something.
At one point, Kawhi had a whole clear out, like a whole space. And it's like, bro, who left a child on Kawhi with 18 feet?
Look at Gil watching Raptors basketball willingly. This is what you wanted, Gil.
Let me show you something. Not this one. Oh, but right to it. That's fine. Yeah, that's a trail three. Trail three. Right there. Yeah, that was amazing. I mean, he tried. Right here, right here. I think this is the third one.
Right here.
Who's won his money? Wait, no. No, not that one. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Aggressive. Not that one, not that one. Right here. Stop. Right here. Boom. Right here. There's no world where I'm going to see Kawhi Leonard on my right side knowing he's been getting buckets and stop Barrett? I mean, stop Barnes to leave the wide open shooter. That's the dumbest shit I've ever heard. No, come on now. What? You have to take the ball.
You got to stop the ball in transition. Are you retired? Hell fuck no. See? Fuck no. Hey, hey, hey.
Fuck no.
Wait, wait, wait.
Tell me, tell me, tell me. That's Kawhi in the corner?
Yes. Just like that. Ain't no Paul. He's fully committed. No, Paul. No. Listen.
He's fully committed. You have to take the ball. You want to take the lane. The passing lane.
Yeah. You could shorten the.
Pass, make the pass difficult so he got more time.
Who's got more? I'm taking the ball. You have to.
I would stunt, get inside the three-point line, and just start floating to Kawhi in the corner. You got to play both.
No, you fight. No, don't.
You have to guard the ball or nigga's going to get a dunk.
No, my bottom man got that. I am not leaving the best.
Like I said, if you communicate that, then the bottom man has the ball.
But you're starting for the last man back. Like, do you understand.
What I'm saying? I'm not starting. You're going to fully commit. I'm going to turn around and say, take corner. Who you telling that to? Who?
He's by himself. I don't know who that is. Whoever that light-skinned child is. He's by yourself.
That's what I'm saying. He's by yourself. No. No, bro. Because you're going to say there's nobody.
I'm either telling light-skinned man to the left right here in the middle of the lane. Either he taking Kawhi in the corner or I'm yelling the buddy with the pro. that's running down now to cut him off but i'm gonna hedge and show my body like this and then go to play broke yeah literally up until you you get the man you're not doing this you drop back like this you're dead that's what i'm telling you drop back too that's now we under 50 hey listen though we do this we under 50 on the way to the center i'm gonna eat the ball come in i'm gonna be like hi I'm going here.
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
You got him right back.
Those are the decisions.
Hey, man, this is why Gil ain't over 50, man.
This is why. But look. Because he know the right thing. No, Gil know the right thing to do. You know what you're saying. No, you're supposed to stunt and then get back to the shooter.
But you can't stunt until you know. You can tell right here they did not talk to each other. He hasn't told him shit. Neither one of them know who to guard. They doing exactly what you said.
That's my bottom line. They like this. I'm going to play both. Bitch-ass nigga, pick one. That's the bottom line.
But that's what I'm saying. It's not even playing both. You stalling time for him because no matter what.
No, you're not. Bro, you at a disadvantage. He's falling back.
It takes absolutely nothing with Scottie Barnes to literally stop around the elbow, stunt, and go to the corner. Tell that nigga to come here. Literally, go get the ball first. His responsibility is first pass.
That's it. Oh, yeah. He's first pass.
A nigga in the corner. But you know what I mean though. I'm just saying when I'm coming down. But I'm saying when I'm.
Shout out Pablo.
But when you come down, bro, your responsibility is to stunt both until your guy gets back, bro. You trying to close out the corner. But he's supposed to get the first pass regardless.
Yeah, he's the first pass regardless. He's not in this situation.
His job is to take the ball and slow the pass down.
Kawhi is actually his man. So Kawhi is his man. So what ends up happening, if I stop your.
Man, there's no rules when there's nobody guarding the ball.
But we have bottom guys, man. The bottom guy, that's your man. That's your man. I got Kawhi. I got Kawhi, dog. He done already hit four of them. I'm not going to stop. I'm not stopping. A non-three-point shooter. Every good team I've been on. This is a layup. That's crazy.
This is a layup.
The fact that y'all are conceding this layup is insane.
I wouldn't be conceding it. There's a dude in the paint. That's it. There's somebody in the paint. That's not my responsibility. I'm helping out a twin.
All you have to do, you either tell Buddy that's running back, you have to come here to where it's a short stunt, long recovery.
And that's what I'm saying. We're saying the same thing. The bottom guy, he end up picking him up anyway. I'm saying that's the only way that happens. He overcommitted. If you're right here in this situation, you know he's beat. He can't get there. He can't get there. You have to take the ball.
Low key, But he with the throw in the middle with the, yeah, at the half court, his ass really supposed to be on his horse around the side going sideline.
Bro, that's aggressive, bro. That's wild, bro. Around the sideline. That's wild, bro. I'm coming down, I'm coming to you.
Bro, you did exactly what Scottie Barnes wanted you to do.
Yes.
Take the ball, bro. You would have done the exact same. Here I go.
Let me dribble.
This is one-on-one.
Dribble right to him. I hope he's goofy enough. You're not talking about me. That's what I'm saying.
If I'm there, this ain't a two-on-one. Y'all going to dribble this out. I'm saying if you're a playmaker, if you're stopping the ball. Oh, no, you're dribbling that out. If you're going to. You're dribbling that out. If that's you, you stop the ball. That's Treyway.
Who?
No.
You think you're going to get the ball? You think Scottie Barr is going to deliver you the ball?
Oh, you're going to tackle him. I'm finna steal it. I'm a thief. Give me that.
I want that. I need that bad because I know you have one option available. You're trying to get me to choose between you and Kawhi. You think you're going to get the ball to Kawhi?
Get it there. Do it.
That's why I'm saying pick the ball because I can now slow this down to where you have to throw.
This pass as opposed to this. You jumped the ball. He picked the ball up and still made that pass. I'm saying, because he didn't pick him up. You already know right now, this is a two-on-one.
Yeah, but he not, Shum, you got a 40-inch vert. You got cat-like quickness.
Niggas is not, but that's what I'm saying. Preparation.
I know my vertical could come into play if, but I'm saying, principle-wise, two-on-one situation.
He can shoot or dunk. I have a low man.
I'm going to make this pass slow as fuck so that now I could try and you throw this. I could get a chance and have him catch a bullshit pass. Now he want to shot fake and go to the basket. I can still try and ride his shoulder.
And now I got a nigga at the rim. That's my only option. It's a two-on-one. I just don't get conceding it.
I ain't going to lie to you. I'm only conceding it because I know Scottie Barnes ain't shooting shit.
Yeah.
Scottie Barnes is damn near going to try to get to that rim. He's not pulling up shooting a three. He's trying to get a dunk. When I'm looking right there, I mean, obviously, it's Monday morning quarterbacking. Out the corner of my eye, I promise to God, I'm telling you, yo, come here, get him.
I'm stunning. You're telling the low man. You're telling the low man to take ball.
I'm literally telling him to leave the lane and come get ball.
No, I'm not telling low man.
I'm telling the dude at half court.
But low man reacts equally. Oh, you're just going to try and wait.
Yeah, that's why I'm telling him I'm a stunt. Because when we sit there, I'm worried about Kawhi regardless.
To all the kids at home.
Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
Never, ever drop and even yourself out in the tournament.
Oh, yeah, that was bad.
Put your left leg up. Do this here so that you can jab.
Fuck up his.
Angle and still deny this passing lane. I'm saying, if you do this, you're fucking dead.
I'm saying, but you for sure want to keep your back of your head.
To the rim.
You know what I'm saying? Not really.
Your back of your head should really be to the sidelines. That ain't the first time they did it. They're going to do it again.
It's just wild to me that the principles, that's why I said, when you said the AU team, I felt it because it's like, bro, this is some bullshit.
Even on 2-on-1.
I didn't even notice until we re-ran it.
How bad they were playing. We never fully pick up the ball. On a 2-on-1, that man come here, we sit here because we want him to pick it up so we can go here. Unless we fully commit, we try to take the charge. But it... No, no, no. On a two-on-one, when they come in here, we never really.
A naked two-on-one is different, though, Gil.
A naked two-on-one is different. Yeah, no, but this is... He got two people on the weak side. Two. He got two. You're not naked. On the weak side. That's... They're on the strong side, though. Yeah, bro. Exactly. So you have a two-on-one, but it's not really a two-on-one. Technically. No, because all you need.
If he would have committed earlier.
Your health side ain't... Huh? Huh? If he would have picked up earlier, it would have been an easy win. There's nobody that can get to Kawhi Leonard at all right now. Period. Everybody's on the other side of the court. Correct.
My job is to make Kawhi think about it. Do I want the three or the two?
That's it.
My job is not to do anything else but to make his mind think, am I open for the three or is Iman finna run me off?
That's it. That's pancake juice right there. Pancake juice.
He just flattened himself body-wise is what I'm saying. He flattened himself like this to where he can't guard either one. If Scotty Barnes go like this and turn this.
Down, he beat.
If he throw that ball over there, you still got to pivot out of that shit you beat.
Like, it's just bad defense. But even the reactions, even if he went to the middle, there's defense there now. Yeah. The only person who's not guarded is Kawhi. It's not defense.
Scotty Barnes is dribbling to that low man, whoever it was. He was not stopping and shooting a pull-up jumper in transition. Scotty Barnes is literally trying to get to that back. The low man is right over there. Say this played a little different, right?
Yeah. He take Kawhi Leonard.
That's going to leave Scottie Barnes there to take two dribbles and then put the ball back in his right hand. Now the man who ever is in the middle is in no man's land. He don't have a man, buddy-ass that's trailing don't have a man because his principal is supposed to go weak side corner.
Who the fuck is guarding the trailer?
Who's trailing?
No, the trailer would be, yeah, yeah, the trailer would be the, wait, go back. That's what I'm saying. Traylor's the nigga who's running with the Traylor. He's picked him up, too.
Now you see what I'm saying. You don't want Kawhi to do it, so you run the two-on-one. Otherwise, you're going to give somebody a dunk. You're either going to give up a layup or you're going to give R.J. Barrett a free run to the rim.
But that's the problem. Nobody's guarding. No, no, no, because the guard who was actually guarding Barrett for some reason then decided to take up Scotty Barnes on him. On the float deck.
This is what I'm saying. What would be your principle if you was coaching? What would be your principle for the team?
That Kawhi with a three-point shot from the corner with 19 seconds left.
That's not a principle, man.
I'm just saying the principle is literally making sure that the top guy don't kill us, making sure he don't get easy shots. So no matter what, when you brought up the Steph Curry situation, it's like, yo, when you step up, as you know, you're going to guard a superstar way different than you're going to guard– whoever else.
And I'm trying to guard and stop Kawhi first, second, and damn near third. I'm telling you, in real time, if I'm looking at one thing they fucked up, there was no communication to even start any part because at the end of the day, you saw no hands pointing, no nothing. I would have literally sat there and been like, yo, I'm not trying to leave Kawhi whatsoever because even if he was hot or cold, if he gets an open one from the corner, it's going to be a long night for us. I'm cool with the second option having him a good night or even getting to that rim protection, but I know Scottie Barnes is bringing the ball straight to us. I know whatever else is going on, I'm damn near leaving them. Watch, they're going to do it again.
Here, watch.
That's why they trusted me to guard, niggas.
Y'all think like that?
Once I had Mello, I stopped thinking of the offensive side and just started thinking on how y'all was thinking. So that's why I would have played like that. You know what I'm saying? You playing it like that because you guarding it as if this is what I would do offensively.
That would upset me. And I'm trying to make you do the opposite. You know what's so funny? Go back. This is why switching became a thing. Because we had to full rotate, right? And this is why everybody switched. Now look who's wide open in the corner. And this is why everybody wanted the same matchup so we can switch everything so there was no full rotation. Yep. Because there's no way Nick's even playing full rotation with the new NBA. Here's your pick and roll. Pop big. Slip.
And he fully takes him. Yeah.
Full rotation.
Yeah, to get... Boom! Kawhi by himself.
That's supposed to be a stunt and go back.
That's supposed to be a stunt.
Yeah, they did that wrong. Yeah, they did that wrong. That's supposed to be a stunt. And then they're supposed to pull over. Dude's supposed to get in.
Nigga got all day. That's all day long. He full rotated, though.
Yeah.
But you're picking up the bottom first. He said he has to pick up the bottom first, then go back. Nigga, this ain't the early 2000s. And you're rotating. It ain't Zach Randolph on here. You got the best shooter on the court. By himself.
And also, they got 52 points with 940 left in the second, which is absolutely shooting the fuck out of it.
Like, stop giving up. So this is preseason, hard to really determine and judge. No, no, no, no, no. We talking basketball. No, no, no, I'm saying from the Knicks squad. No, I said the bottom ones, I said good luck because they have no IQ. I see why Tibbs didn't put their asses in. Enjoy it now, fella. Shout out to James Wiseman. I see why Mike Brown is here. You can't put everybody in the game. James wouldn't have put me in either. I ain't going to lie. That's a bad tape. Y'all going to be sick when they pull that tape up. I ain't going to lie. Oh, yeah.
In practice? Yeah, yeah. That practice is going to be tough. Yeah, it's tough. So why would you pick him up for him when Kawhi's right here? Real tough. KYP, man. KYP.
KYP.
Y'all ain't doing shit.
Literally, y'all personnel. Yeah, y'all ain't. Like, we put the scout report on the C-Sport.
Some of them might not be there for that combo, obviously. Get ready to start rosters, trimming down, getting ready for basketball.
True, true. Question for you about Kawhi before we move on. And ET, you alluded to this earlier.
Is Kawhi Leonard still one of the five best players in the East this season, if he's healthy?
Yeah, 1,000%. He's in the top five in the East.
Second team on the NBA. The player or the team? Kawhi Leonard.
In the league? In the league or just the East Coast? Let's say National Basketball Association. The NBA.
Yeah.
Because you said East. I did say East first. Good, but top five. You ain't naming me five better than.
Intangibles, everything.
And he's playing the whole season? He's giving you top five. He ain't got enough chance.
He finna win 70% of them 65 games.
After that stat? Yeah. I ain't gonna lie.
I'm finna start looking up y'all stats as far as y'all winning percentage.
That's the real conversation. You are not a winner. Blame him. Don't blame him. Right now, there's like nine people that's top five. if everybody's healthy there's about nine people that is legit top.
Five am I wild for saying that period in the NBA is Kawhi ahead of Giannis I say yeah I say yes.
Kawhi Leonard.
Okay, I'm just making sure, bro, because when I say stuff about Giannis.
You think Kawhi Leonard is quite better than Giannis?
He had three-tier score.
1,000%. And when it comes to playoff and half-court, he knows what to do with.
The ball, Paul. Multiple finals and VPs.
Shit, we about to see what Giannis can do.
Way more gravity on the court. Your hot tea is now cooled off. Your hot tea is cooled off. What are we talking about? That's a real debate? Yeah.
The funniest face you ever made was when you asked Rondo a better point guard than Chris Paul.
Huh?
When Brandon Jennings asked, is Rondo a better point guard than Chris Paul?
Uh-huh.
And you were so blue. I thought that was the funniest.
It's like, I get what you're saying, and it's two dudes that I didn't, I got it wrong from the beginning. What? I called Giannis. When I first seen Giannis, I was always like, uh, Karolinko. Uh-huh. By the way, we did the white boy conversation the other day. Why we didn't bring up Andre Karolinko?
Because he's not American. You guys said American, Caucasian. Keith Van Horn.
He's American.
Keith Van Horn's a problem. You feel me? We ain't bring up Bobby Sear. Did y'all bring up Bobby Sear?
No, we ain't bring up what's buddy that went to Bradley.
Not Bradley. Brad Miller.
No.
No.
Brad Miller's a bad white boy.
No, but he played at Utah. What the fuck is wrong with you? Brendan Haywood.
No, not Brendan Haywood.
Gordon Haywood. Gordon Haywood. Gordon Haywood. He was good for a couple years. You see what I'm saying? But he had that. You know what I'm saying? He had that shit that Coop got. He ain't Coop.
Matt Harper?
What's that? Yeah, we should have thought of all the white boys. Wait, whoa, whoa, whoa. Matt Harper.
Every time you bring up Matt Harper, I'm like, hold on.
Why do you feel that? He's the Jeremy Shockey. He was like the Jeremy Shockey, you know, like Jeremy Shockey back in the day. Football, that bad white boy that just, he just played hard. Yeah, yeah. You know what I mean? Back then, he just played hard. He was like you. Getting bashed. Yeah. What's up? Want to fight? Whoa, that's not true. He was getting bashed. Wrong. This is not how you're supposed to be in Utah. He was shooting that shit, too. No, he was a defensive... He was a two... He was... A two-way player.
He was awesome. Let's take it back to the Kawhi... He played the game. Kawhi was Giannis' conversation.
Yeah. Kawhi better. Kawhi better than Giannis? Yes. Kawhi's better. My favorite Greco-Nigerian Giannis.
I know.
It makes people uncomfortable. It can make us uncomfortable when we say it, but it has to be said. I don't know, because... How Giannis... Listen, the style... We might not like the style, but... Yeah. You have to... on a bad year, 29 and 12. That's crazy.
There's not a lot of people in the.
Like, he can sit here and debate if he's healthy. He's MVP every year. He can say, hey, I should have won three. And you're going to look at his stats and say, yeah. Right. But if you have to play.
against somebody in the playoffs to go get the ring, and.
You see Kawhi. Play against? Yes.
If you say, I got to play Kawhi tonight, or I could play Giannis.
I'm going to fucking play Giannis. I'm playing Kawhi. Are you serious? I'm playing Kawhi. You're insane. Yeah. It's going to be quiet. Hey, shout out my nigga Giannis. It's going to be elegant. You know what I mean? It's going to be a little nice, a little flow. One's just trying to dunk on you the whole time. You're going to be in foul trouble. Or you can get him in foul trouble. He might fuck around half 50-something.
He might. Kawhi going to give me a nice 30-35.
He's going to have to go to the basket 26 times.
But that's the problem. He's going to do that.
But he's going to have to go score 26 times at the rim.
But he's going to do it. But that's the problem.
Kawhi might get you 10 at the rim. He might hit 10 threes. He's going to get two fouls. He's going to go 60. Two fouls on your young boy that's athletic as hell. Like, let them play Philly or something. Like, DJ Edgecombe, come sit down.
He's going to give me 50, 90, 40. It's going to be a nice little stat line. And you're going to lose 73%.
Yeah, when shit gets tough, he turn into Nolan Ryan, bro.
But it's 73-41. But that might be like 35.
Can I say this, bro? I always say this about some of the top players, and you can correct me if I'm wrong. We scream at this regular season average. And I feel as though even with Brian, Brian's a goat because of what he does in the playoffs. But you know he's going to average 28-8-8 during his prime.
So sometimes I'm always wondering, like, yo, some of the big-time players... aren't they only judged in like a four-week, five-week span when it gets serious because they're kind of locked in? So I'm saying what you do in the playoffs, like what you do in the last five minutes to bring home a ring and championship much more than just having it on goal. And, you know, in the flow of the season, I'm not saying half those games aren't serious, but, you know what I mean, you're kind of stuck on it in a lot.
Of– Not even just that. It's the game plan for it. Yeah, I got to see your game plan.
You can tell if we have a game plan that it's like the first quarter is all about Gil. We have to get him going because this quarter we got to get Antoine Jamison going.
You know what I'm saying? We know the rotations. He's going to come out at.
four minutes because he comes back in when the second quarter starts. And then Twan might be, you know what I'm saying, a different system to where he now know for these four minutes, I'm jacking.
I'm not passing this bitch.
Or if he not playing well and we in the third quarter, we know we finna have to feed him till he get going because at the end of the game, he can't have no fucking rhythm.
You get what I'm saying? So it's like we're going to make sure he get.
His 28 because it's like it's also two games where it's like We're going to try and win this game, but we also need our guy rolling when it's time to show up for the playoffs.
You know what I'm saying?
And that's what I'm saying. So when it comes down to... You are judging off them.
Yeah, yeah. Who's most dependable to show up for those playoffs? I can't. I can't. You got two months.
And Kawhi just a.
Lot of credit.
Can I just say this? And Kawhi got a... I mean, Giannis, when he made it through the playoffs and got over that hump, Drew Holiday and Chris Middleton don't get enough credit.
But I got to look at your team. So if I see someone get shut down in the playoffs, I don't just say, oh, you got shut down, nigga. You're trash in the playoffs. Not at all. Right? I got to look at the game. What is the game plan? What were they trying to do? Because if you're talking about Miami, when Miami play Giannis, we all know the game plan. we're going to build a wall. For sure.
We're making him pass it 1,000%. Two guards back. So that means he shouldn't have 30. He shouldn't have 25. It should be a struggle night for him if he's trying to score.
Or 30 off a lot of shots.
Yes. So unless he's trying to say, okay, I'm going to have 15 assists, what ends up happening is like, yo, this guy didn't show up tonight. Because the game plan is pass the ball. Without a doubt. And if you're not really in tune with trying to win games, and you go against the defense, like, no, I'm going to get through it, that's where the 7 for 38 comes from.
Real talk. And you've got to be damn good to get out there. You're supposed to have 10, 15 points, like 15 points, 10 assists. That's the night. That's what they're giving you. Real talk. They don't think you're going to be a passer tonight. But then if I'm supposed to be a passer and them shots ain't hitting, Oh, nigga, you tried. You stunk it up tonight. That's what ends up happening. That's tough, but this is a grown man league.
I don't give a fuck.
All I'm telling you is Kawhi don't have that problem.
Yeah, he's never succumbed to.
You see how you did all that? Has he ever had a team?
What's your game plan for Kawhi?
Yeah. We know Kawhi coming. Build a wall. Kawhi's coming. What do we do? In this one? I'm treating, and with the team.
He has now, I'm treating his ass like Steph. What's the game plan? You told me what we're doing for Giannis.
Trapping them all, picking roles. Anytime he goes iso, I'm doubling. Oh, so he ain't allowed to play? No. I got it. Oh, I want to see Andre. Barrett, I want to see. I want you to use this teammate. He want to afford the dialogue. He's not allowed to play. If you ever look at the 05, 06... 06, 07, when the NBA, the players in the league, remember what his record in the scene was when everybody was like, yeah, Kobe's the baddest nigga on the planet. Remember, he lost. He's AFC, right?
He lost. He wasn't winning.
He was like 37 and 45 or something.
We knew his team look. Yeah. We not guarding none of them. It's the Chris Paul syndrome. We gonna quadruple, triple team them. Quadruple. And he averaged 35. Allen Iverson, you don't have nobody that can shoot out of 15 feet. We're just going to load up. 32 a game. But the game plan is you're not going to get 10 attempts.
You out there had 40 points. That's what I said. I got to know the game plan.
Kawhi not leaving no game, not shooting the ball. As soon as you trap him off the pick, the pick and roll, he's going to pass it until you give it right back and he's going to shoot that ball.
He's not leaving no game.
I'm going to say that's Kawhi, though.
He's not even trying to get no. But today's game is switch anyway, so it's still a one-on-one for him. Why not going? Fuck all that. Like Shane and them pinky rolls. Back in the day, nigga, we doubling you. Get the ball. Let Lou Dort have 30 tonight. I get it.
How some shit make could be deceiving. Make no mistake. Kawhi the better player. I love Giannis to death. I love the gravity that Giannis brings. I love him in the new uniform. I love everything they got going on. Kawhi Leonard a bad motherfucker, bro.
He a bad motherfucker, but the other ones, the one who barely speak English and he sound like he a Cuban now, he a bad motherfucker too. It does sound Cuban since he's on the run. He do got a little more fuck you to him a little bit now, right, too.
A little bit. He seem like he a little angry a little bit when he dunked a little bit.
What's up, Chico? All right, let's keep this thing moving.
Last time Tyrese Halliburton played in Oklahoma City, Game 7 of the 2025 NBA Finals, when his season in the Pacers title hopes came to an abrupt end after his Achilles injury. So how he made his return to OKC Tuesday night to take on the Thunder Squad, featuring four of their five regular starters, including back-to-back MVP SGA... And the former All-NBA point guard got to the point sending a message to the league that his Pacers squad is back and ready for business. Let's take a look at some of the Hallie highlights. The Halliband back out here.
So the Pacers played in OKC this past January. Hallie decided to stay home, saying he wasn't ready to return there yet, but he was ready Tuesday night. Hitting an array of buckets while showing flashes of his former All-NBA self. Just 18 minutes of action. Highly finished with 24 points. 3 assists, 3 rebounds. He was 9 for 14 from the field. 4 for 6 from beyond the arc. Despite his heroic efforts in this limited amount of time, Pacers were not able to get it done. They ended up losing in overtime. Jumper looks a little crisper now. He definitely has something on his mindset.
Yeah, that's how he's supposed to guard his ass. Had a preseason game circle. Man, he's shooting that.
I'm speechless.
I mean, he was shooting that thing in Sacramento. Yeah, for sure. He looks super balanced. Look at these pacers. Oh, he's loving him some Zubac. Hell yeah. Hell yeah. You get that Zubac screen, boy.
Thousand percent good screener.
You get to see it now. What it look like?
You're going to really love turning Zubac into that lob for it.
Oh, oh, oh. Yeah, that's what I want to see right there.
Keeter's no glitch in his run, like in his gallop.
He look fully back, bro.
Good for him.
So Gil, let's start with you. Hallie is zero. You've probably seen your clip saying that he dragged his foot. He dragged that foot.
But Gil, to the point, people pointed out he's been dragging that foot even pre-Achilles injury.
Oh, I was? Okay. That's the Hallie shuffle. Oh.
No, I'm just kidding. But he has been doing that even prior to that Achilles.
No, I don't believe that. So what did Hallie show you in his performance against the Thunder? That we should have listened to our bodies back in the day. These guys coming off Achilles injuries, sitting out to reclaim their full game. You know, we were so into hurry up and getting back on the court that we didn't trust our bodies, right? And just to see these guys across the board come back and they're back to normal, right?
You can even say his shot is better because obviously he has nothing to do. He's working on his form, working on his shooting. So now you have a hollyhooking shoot even better than he did before. Not going to lose division. Confidence is there. I still want to see. I think he's going to score a little bit more.
And I think the passing assist might go down because I don't know if he has the shooters he once had before. So he might turn more into a score. But it seems like he's ready for that. For somebody like that, having a real big man cuts out a lot of shit. You can't switch out with him.
His vision with an actual bruiser that's going to hit and make contact where it has to happen, whatever.
Because for a ball screen to have a lot of times.
if you don't set the ball screen, a guard, like, he's waiting for the defender to have to.
Jump over or go up. Like, we're waiting on the read.
So, you looking like this, if you know every time you're going to hit this motherfucker, like, I got to read?
Yo, say what you want. Kwame Brown was a great screener.
Ah, ah.
Like, you be coming off the screen, like, damn, what that nigga at?
No, he wasn't.
But you see the difference in the value.
I never had a problem with him until he came at me. I didn't even know we... I'm like, what did I do?
And then I realized.
That it was all made up. What? Everything he said was actually made up. Me having ambition to play. It wasn't me who had ambition. It was Colb. Told Phil Jackson he's in my way. Put him on a picture. Somehow he threw that on me. It's your fault. So it was you. No, he didn't. That's what I'm saying. Like, I just, it was just like when I broke it all down and realized, started reading articles. So you like all this. We done did all this shit and it came down to like, he said that he had you bitch.
Why the fuck did you say my name then? That's crazy. Yeah. No, he was a good screener.
That's what I'm saying.
That's why it was weird. Like, you in my way, nigga.
I get it that he ain't paying out the greatness.
I get it that he.
Ain't paying out the greatness, but I always tried to really understand what was going on. I'm like, bro, did I miss something? This a guards game. A big came. Okay, he not Shaq.
Yeah.
The fuck he got to do besides set screens, get rebounds, and block shots?
And change shots. 2001, it was big. Yeah. It was Biggs, but I'm saying he's not Shaq. Go get a guard.
But they wanted a double-double at least.
Yeah. I feel it.
But I'm saying the way they was putting so much emphasis on the man.
Number one picket. I remember Rod.
And also as like a big man.
Our whole draft. But it was our whole draft. And you're supposed to be like the only. Our whole draft was, it was, it was Quam. It was Paul Gasol was a sleeper. But it was Eddie Curry. Tyson Chandler. Jop Deop. But shit, Zach Randolph came in. We had another, who else?
Jermaine O'Neal, was he there?
No. Where'd J.O. go? Seton Hall. Eddie Griffin. With the light eyes. Was it Eddie Griffin?
Adrian Griffin or something.
Eddie Griffin. Eddie Griffin, he played for the Bulls. No, no, no, no, no, no. The shooter from Seton Hall, 6'11, 6'10. 6'9, Eddie Griffin, yeah, he played. Oh, he played for the Bulls? He didn't get drafted by the Bulls. I was talking about other Eddie. You was talking about this one. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, I came in. She like, damn. Oh, I thought he was going to be. It was a big man drive. So they was looking for the big man to come in.
They was evaluating them. And that's crazy. See, we were shorties at that time. So I had that type of.
I remember talking to Rod Thorne one time and he was discussing, was it Brooke Lopez from Brooklyn back in like the early thousands? Brooke had averaged 20.
Mm hmm.
And, like, four rebounds. And I remember him saying, like, well, God damn, Brooklyn, you're seven feet. Seven rebounds should just fall in your hands. So when you're judging sometimes with the footers, even in Mecca Okafor, he was the number one pick. He won rookie of the year. But, like, the best he ever gave you was 12 and 10.
You never heard bust labels. He just, like, double-double for his big fella. Like, you're down there.
Like, you know? No, no, no.
It's just my shit.
Like, you ain't got to shoot no three. You just got to grab the rebound. I'm cool with that.
Oh, bro, sometimes I wish I'd have been 7'1. Nah, they'd have been paying me $ 400 million every couple years.
I'd have been Andre Blatch for real.
For what? I'd have been getting... You're all the talent. No, that would have been crazy. I would have been... Oh, you never played with him.
Andre Blatch was the first center futter that I saw in Kobe's. Like, people was like, bro, this man, like, literally hooting all low tides.
All game.
Like.
when you watched him, you're sitting here like, oh, we Gucci. We just needed time. Right? Like, you know, 23, he's 19. So we're looking at our lineup like, yo, he can put Antoine at a three. You know, he'll be the four. Like, we've seen our future four. This motherfucker... He was he was basically like a Yoki style.
You don't say like Al Jefferson post with dribbling like he was like he was one of those is like.
All right, I'll make Gucci. We played against him. I just never I remember playing just the holes. You know what it is?
There's players and I only notice that I had to guard everybody. There's players that you play.
That They have a certain way they play, right?
But once, I think they let the doubts and everybody talking be like, like they'll be like, Gil don't do nothing but a hessy pull. He ain't got shit but a hessy pull. So now you trying to prove to me that you not a hessy puller. Like you trying to show me you got game. I feel like Andre Blanche went for that. After a couple years, people start dissecting because they was like, damn, this nigga is nice.
He started doing all that. They start being like, okay. Like, you know, he needs to work on this or he needs to work. And then niggas just stop doing what they do and start trying to show you all the rest of they shit.
And they're just like, nah, bro. keep going to that shit. Like, we didn't stop it.
You know the games, you know they start switching up when, you know, all your moves supposed to be like short corners, short posts. Andre Blatch eventually is catching that shit at the coach's line.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Trying to figure it, you know what I mean?
Oh, bro, yeah, yeah. That's when it was down. And that's when you start realizing, like, damn. Oh, no, that's when it's down.
You're trying to release some, like, unseen footage. Like, you know what I'm saying? Like, some unreleased.
Straight up. If you get 25.
Yeah, you get 25, dog.
Just get it.
Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
Get it. It ain't no one.
But, but, When you get older and you start comprehending the difference in maturity, like Gil, you knew how to play scoring, a difference in mastery of the game and understanding who you are. Melo never got outside himself. Some of the great scorers always made the game look Completely simple.
Oh, he looks like a wild side just so please no I'm saying.
In general like when he was going to his kill moments and everything else like that You know exactly what he's going to do. Oh, yeah And it's kill spots and I think when it comes down to scores That's the might be in some bots in that sense, you know I'm saying when you talk to Dame about how he scores like man Every every start of second half.
I know they're gonna kind of relax and go on there. I'm shooting at three. I And I'm going to go do this. He tell me how you're going to score his 30 throughout the game.
You know what I mean?
The scariest thing I ever did was sit down with Mike, and Mike broke down to me how to average 20.
You talking about Sir Mike? The honorable Michael Jordan? You don't know how you do it? Let me hear it. You attempt two shots.
And throughout the game, you're going.
To get to the free throw line if you just aggressively are driving the ball. But you shoot two shots a quarter. And if you could make two shots a quarter, a layup, and a three, you.
Just average 20. That's real. See, you know what I'm saying? Like, if you're going to win a game, you're going to play different. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
If you're required to do 20 a game, like, you've had that responsibility where it's like, hey, bro, I need 30 tonight out of you.
It's so hard to do when you ain't got no jumper. Like, you could shoot. So when niggas ask me to go get 30, I'm like, damn, what.
Am I going to have to do?
I'm going to be injured.
I was going by the same thing, but it was a little bit different. It was a layup, middie, free throw. Yeah. Every quarter. Real talk. Right? Every quarter. Yeah, so I even had the trainer. Right? Hey, this is my checklist. Check it off. I got the layup. Check.
Right?
Now, if I get an extra layup, that don't count. Yeah. Get my middie. Check. Penalty. Free throws. Real talk, as soon as they find out that I'm a free throw. But now think about it, now if I'm consciously, so once we get into penalty and I done got my free throws, He's letting me know we're in a penalty. Penalty.
Free throw. So now it's like, oh, shit. Pump it. Got you.
Damn, Isaiah and them. You'd be looking like, how the fuck do you know we're in a penalty? I was just playing to hoop. Damn, I just hit the ground. What you doing? We in penalty, bro. You take it out from the side and I get fouled before they even pass it in. I'm going to give me two free throws. Damn, you thirsty ass. You know it. You kind of shocked. You're like, damn, that's genius. They're playing a game within a game But respectfully to y'all, you have to because we need y'all 30. We need y'all 20.
So when we show up, it's like, hey, bro, I know I got my little eight, but it ain't look good without your 28. We supposed to combine for 36 tonight.
But I had learned that. Just the idea of the game within the game was when Scottie Pippen in the playoffs told me, you're not going to win this series if you're trying to score the ball. You're going to have to be a passer. That's true. Right? Because I averaged 33 against him in regular season. It ain't going to happen. So I'm thinking, I'm doing spins, bop, running to a wall. Like, where the fuck you come from?
So I'm going back, and it made me actually look and dissect the tape. They're not even guarding anybody else. He's there. He's there. They're not guarding anybody else. So now I had to become a passer.
Yeah.
Right? To then learn how to pick my spots first quarter. Who does what? Who does what? Now I got to look everybody individually how they play defense. Mm-hmm.
Right?
Okay, which big man take charges? Which big man jump? So now I'm dissecting the game. Then I realize, oh, shit, wait, hold on. I don't want to guard him. How do they sub him? How do I get him out of the game? Who comes in and, you know, so then I started breaking down the game. Like, hold on, coach. Hey, coach, stop taking me out at the two-minute, three-minute mark. Why?
Because we're in a penalty. You're putting Juan Dixon in. You're putting Blake in. They're not trying to get foul. They're trying to warm up. So they're using these three minutes to warm up. I can eat. Yeah, you thought about it. So now I'm like, we can eat. We can get these guys in foul trouble. They're bringing, they're subbing in the same. So these guys are still cold.
I can get lays. I can get this. Yeah, or quick fouls together. Yeah, so take me out at the top.
You saw how Bryan prepared versus Heat when Kawhi would come back in. He'd be like, fuck, this is where we can make runs or whatever. But it's like, hey, you keep it a bean. When they sit him out, this is where I'm going to get off at real quick. You know what I'm saying?
Trust me, I've had that rule.
I had the Jamal Crawford rule.
Lou Will. I had the Lou Will rule. That's where I got it from. Lou Will. I had a Lou Will. I was watching Lou. When I got out and was subbing in, and I'm looking at Lou. You know how Lou Will came in and started doing this? Yeah. And then he come in, pump fake, boom, foul. Yeah, all the time. Two free throws. Yeah, yeah. Coming in, two free throws. At the end of the quarter, they got six. Yeah.
All six. Hey, man, hold on, man. What is your thought process when you come in the game? Shot, fake, shot. Right? He was like, oh, I'm looking at his penalty, bro. When I come in, if we're in a penalty, I'm not even worried about making shots. I'm just trying to eat off these free throws while I get warm. And I'm sitting here like... Literally warming up. Literally warming up at the free throw line.
I didn't play on Lou's team. You just watch him just dribble the ball up and then run towards the sideline. Somebody hit him. He's like, I got a bigger defender. I'm little as hell.
It's going to look like a blast.
Yeah, it's going to look crazy regardless. But you used to be sitting there and be like, bro, this man got eight points off two shots.
Like, when?
But I'm saying, even then, shout out to Lou Williams, you need those 15 points. So it's responsible to be like, hey, bro, you can come off the bench. You know what I mean? Because the person starting ahead of you is only getting probably six.
So, you know what I mean?
That's how it goes. And then with Louis, from those two spots, we need to combine.
I had the Louis Williams rule. I had the Jamal Crawford rule. And that was... I'm coming out the game and I'm finna sit down my six minute.
I'm gonna sit down.
If he jump up, no matter what time is on the fucking clock, I'm getting up too. But it was literally made like that so that he could see me do it to where he know you're not playing today unless he want to guard.
And that's a real game.
And low key, I remember talking to CJ one time and I was like, man, y'all really think of why like You know, they lose. He's that elite of a defender. Y'all so cold offensively. I remember CJ being like, bro, if you're on the left side, I'm running.
To the right. So? No, but I didn't realize that. I'm like, CJ, you like the cold?
He's just like, bro, it's just certain dudes are good at what they do. But he's just like, hey, bro, honor amongst thieves. Killers know killers. And he's just like, that ain't nothing crazy. He's just like, God, the one dude that can stop me and shump. Sometimes we take away from basketball, and they'll be like, When Shump does all these arguments or speaks, it's like, bro, there's only maybe two people in the world can do absolutely what you can do or scare some of the illest scorers on earth. Like I said, it's not serious.
Me and Tony Allen have dinners about it all the time, bro. Sitting there talking. That's what you're talking about in your meal?
Real. But I'm saying, like, me and T.A. would, like, T.A. been telling me about shit for the longest. Like, just being a.
Chicago guy, he going to look out for me and be like, look, this is what you're going to be looking at, killer.
Check it out.
Pat Bev said we in Chicago, dude. On bro, though. Pat Bev said.
We in Chicago, dude.
When he doing that, one of them bitches bullshit, shorty.
Look at it. Look, it's bullshit. Damn, that's for the TV. You know what I'm saying? Who want for that one? Like, this one. When he do this one, look. This foot outside his shoulder, shorty. I'm knowing that's real. Like, you could beat me with that one. This shit cute. Fuck that. Like, you do that, I'm closing it. You know what I'm saying? So, like.
And it's a shame that Tony Allen never won a defensive player of the year. They gave it to Mark Gasol. But, like, you ever feel like it's harder to guard a wing player than a big? Like, you know what I'm saying?
For sure, though. For sure.
But the difference is that year, Mark Gasol doesn't block shots. He doesn't get the stat. But he fixes the mistakes. He ain't had to guard the ball. Mistakes happen. Mark Gasol fixed them.
Yeah.
On tape it don't show up but it's like as a defender we was i mean as a uh offensive player you was always conscious of even if i get past all this duress now i gotta finish after having ta on my side like this the whole time and i gotta finish over marcus all you gotta change your shot that's.
Where it came from that's kind of like the warriors when like Draymond was defensive player of the year, but Andre and Andrew Bogut did so much on the backside when you're like, hey, bro, he's killing, but it's just like, bro, they really worried about this big Australian, 6'7 Nigerian, 7'4 wingspan, not a forward foot.
But if it was flipped, they'd have been going by Draymond and they can't do what Draymond does at the rim. Like Draymond, you can say what you want, but Draymond at the rim will change your shot. You might go in there and Draymond just take your hand off. Don't even go for the ball. But you nervous as fuck when you go in there and Draymond got to jump because you don't know what to expect.
That's why people, you know how many times.
Niggas would go to a loose ball? Like, y'all could go get this loose ball, but they know I'm going too. So they just nervous. Like, he might break my leg on the way to doing this. Like, Shump's going to lean in and just dive fast. Completely he'll go into the cameras. Are you willing to go into the cameras?
Like it become that.
Yeah, that'd be funny because it becomes chicken Once you do that, but who hurt? Look yeah, I could have played chicken.
With Gil Gil would need a bit either baby.
So anybody you got that easy 30. Yeah, you got that I I'm not going to. I ain't going to the cameras with you. You said what? I'll give you an easy 30. No, you're not touching the ball. What's wrong with you? Easy 30. No. Easy what?
30 minutes after the game workout because you didn't do nothing today.
Easy 30 points. You're not touching the ball. You're too aggressive. You're not going back and forth. I'm a shadow boxer. If you made that all NBA defensive team, you was chicken barbecued. Nope, I didn't. That's too bad. I didn't ever make no all defensive team.
Because they always give it to the stars who average two steals a game.
I never minded it. Eagle Dollar, great defensive player. I never minded it.
I knew from playing against niggas.
I knew from playing against niggas and practicing. You know why? I just look at your measurements. Measurements, arm length. So arm length, I'm going to look at that so I know my crossover. You're not getting a crossover. I know. It's all in and out. I'm coming down. I'm going to do my first in and out from this far, just as if you move. I'm coming full speed here.
If you even lean this way, boom. I don't know. I don't hate against that, bro. If you don't go forward, I just go right back. So that's all I'm doing. I'm just going to straight line.
Hey, D.
Rose. I'm just straight line. I'm not going to play. With him, I'm not going to sit. If I know you are a defensive guy, I'm not playing with the ball.
Yeah.
I'm not going to sit here and do all this. It's always in and out. It's disrespectful. Like with Iguodala, I already knew if I get past him, because he's long, he's going to sit here and do one of those. So I'm going to sit here and go and keep it, do one of those, and then just grab it, put it up.
And that's when you talk to your big man, you be like, nigga, are you hitting him or not?
You know what I'm saying? Set the screen. He picked me up at the free throw, man. He used to piss me off. James would do that.
I started realizing, nigga, you don't even have a fucking plan. You're literally game planning. No, he was game.
Planning for me.
This is not a basketball angle, but I know he's going to reach. He's coming from behind off the ball screen, so he wants to do his swipe down. But when he does it, There's no way for me to make a shot like this. But James would go to the basket and do this. And now my... Chopping his arm. Yeah, but that's... That's what I said.
I played against... Everybody's ball watchers. Yeah. I used to... Deadlift Shrimp told me that. Everyone's ball watchers. Deadlift Shrimp. Deadlift Shrimp told me that in China. Crazy. We was doing something together. That's the name. He said, everyone's ball watchers. Right? So... You throw the ball out there, they will literally look at it, pull up. So he was teaching me where the refs are. He said, you got the ref here, other refs at the half here. So when you coming in, and this is when everybody used to cuff.
Yeah, I love a cuffing.
He said, that's the dumbest shit ever. He said, so when you're going here and you cuff it, who can see it? The back ref can't see it. This guy can't see it. So they can hold on, that little guard can hold on to your arm. He said, always up. They can see up. They can't see here. So you want to play longer. You don't want to play with the cuff. And then you got to come out. So he was teaching me. He was telling me all those little nicks.
But I'm saying that's a wild thing to think that they was just doing that to get calls.
Yep. We have been taught. I know he was. Yeah, the cuff it. But we've just been taught that's bitch ass shit. Which one? Showing the refs anything.
We have been told that the refs was police this whole time.
That is where all this come from.
We be on the court arguing like, man, this thing is soft, man.
Nigga want to play. Nigga want to shoot free throws, man. Oh, bro.
That's what I said. We were bigger guards. Like, I'm running through shit. Ref, don't call it. Don't call it either way.
Like what? Please let us in. Please. I want to push off.
My shoulder popped up now.
I want to push off. I love pushing off. Two reactions and refs, when you swipe down, ref always assume if the ball goes down, it was clean. If it goes up, pan. That's right. That's their rule of thumb if they can't see it. If you hold the ball like this, if you swipe up, it goes up. They're not even... They're not even actually looking at or hearing anything.
Are you trying to say that I'll be fouling? No, no, no. So I already know if I'm going here and you're swiping up, I got to try to make sure it goes up for the foul. If you swipe up, I already knew my reaction. Oh, shit. I'm doing that. I'm faking the face. Because the hand had to have passed my face. Even if you ain't hit none of them, I'm going to be all bobbed and just, oh.
Ain't that crazy that my, like, real talk, to be in a game that we trying to win and to look down at my hands and say, it went up.
Oh! Yeah, up, up.
It's like, during the game, we really be arguing and be like, what the? fuck no i'm just like what are y'all talking and they like no the ref was over here from his angle what he sees.
No but what about the privilege bro because as role players we can't think of no bullshit like that we gotta make our five shots worth it are you talking about hey i'm gonna go in i'm gonna rely on the ref who don't give a fuck about me oh bro every time he used to do the preseason your brain your brain starts shrinking as the season go on your brain every time the referees would come in and they do the preseason talk about, A, bro, I want to ask you a question.
Like, what?
How's James getting 20 free throws and me and Game getting 20 in a season? Like, do you understand what I'm saying? Much respect for what y'all talking about. After a certain age, I'm not giving up one of my four or five shots fucking with the referee.
That one was wild to me.
The trust that y'all have that somebody's going to blow the whistle is crazy. I could never at the end of a game have a two-dribble pull-up and say, he swiped up.
Oh!
Because if you don't call it, human nature.
But I've watched so many players do this shit and how dumb they look.
And I be on the court like, nigga, why wouldn't you shoot the ball? This shooting, I wasn't even guarding. If I knew you had 5,000, I'd get your ass out of the game. I'm going to try it. No, bro. I know, but I'm going to try it. I'd rather shoot the free throws than try to make the layup. Niggas talk about, yeah, yeah.
Niggas shoot thousands of shots every day.
You can make the shot. I know. You don't practice getting fouled? We practice. Yeah, we do. I'm not going to lie to you. No, you don't. We practice. Yeah, we do. Yeah, yes. No, you don't. Man, listen. The ref ain't even supposed to call no foul. Hey, there's no. You're telling me you drilled that? No, no, no. They don't. No, no, no. Gil, Gil, Gil.
For real, though. You drilled that? Yeah, yeah, yeah. I drilled. It would come off the screen. And you know how, like, we had to go over before? And having that hand. So I'll practice the guy having his hand there, learning how to shoot like you shoot. Oh, with a push. Oh, he pushed. Oh. I'm talking about searching. Oh, yeah? No, yeah.
You practiced that? No, bro, Gil was doing a little shit. I remember one of my first games playing versus him when John did a Dougie. I'm guarding him off the pick and roll.
That shit was lit. I was hot. You was mad? Why? You didn't watch him in college? That's what he was doing. Bro, tell him that night he was the.
I was the second pick, bro.
I was like, bro, this man really the man, G. Oh, he took my shit. Bro, the man... And I said, I said, I said, you won't even duck. You won't even duck because he won't do it like coming out. I'm thinking they're going to think you're immature.
Bro, John said.
Nah, they ate it up. Bro. You can see everybody. I'm like.
Bro, even Doug Collins was laughing. He's like, bro, that kid's a star. And I was like, you're not lying. But when we play versus each other, I remember you coming off screens. And if you were too connected, Gil kind of. Holding you off with his elbow. You literally, like, leaning and leaning forward. I was like, damn, you might have had a Dior's on. And I just remember, like, damn, this nigga, like, these niggas are cold.
What was your last year? Orlando, right? Orlando, Memphis. Like, I used to shoulder hit. Yeah. And he leaned down to you. I forgot who I taught to shoulder hit, but I know who picked it up. Shay, when you're driving, you know how people used to push here? Yeah. When I used to come, I used to, boom, hit him with the... The shoulder. In their left shoulder. Yep. Neutralized and in shot.
Speaking of SGA, move us to our next segment. Every year, NBA officiating crew.
Hey, by the way, hold on. Every year, NBA officiating crew. Hold on, hold on, hold on. We're going to have to talk about them when the season starts. We having fun right now. I know you wrote that, and you waited up to 3 o'clock, and we know it, and that's why we purposely doing it. Now you can carry on.
Just like you purposely argued with Boogie yesterday.
You had no horse in that race. Bro, I saw it. I was like, bro, what's going on? Boogie's like, what the fuck? Don't be crazy.
Because the conversation was about what it was about, and we was having a great debate. But he got stuck when we started saying that CP– He was like, yeah, he did a lot with a little. But we was saying, like, we knew he didn't have a championship pedigree team. But he's like, nigga, he had a better team than me.
That's basically what he was saying. No, what happened was, we went.
We said it, and then we went on, and then he kept coming back to us. So when you said CB didn't have it, so I realized... Gaslight. All right. I'm about to gaslight. You want to sit here for fucking 30 minutes, I'm going to get you.
You know what? Mason's so crazy. Y'all be arguing so crazy. Or even the last crew. And it's like, bro, everybody back here. I think your girl, the tallest one back here.
You know what I mean?
Who going to break that up if Boogie got mad?
It's basketball. I hear you. This was wild. And this was wild. We let nature handle things. Let me tell you something. Nigga, I'm running.
Probably like from your own house.
That's the only time I would retaliate though. Like, yeah, you wouldn't retaliate if we got in a rumble right now. You wouldn't even be mad because we talking basketball.
Like, it's weird. I don't know what it is about basketball that do this. I don't know, man. Even when I fought niggas. Like, me and J.R. fought. The whole team looked at us like we was, they was like, y'all done. Over basketball. Yeah, because they just like, you niggas just love basketball so goddamn much. And y'all really just inseparable. Like, you know what I mean? By the time we in the locker room, nigga, we done shouted.
He like, hey, tape, look at this shit. Look, look at this shit. Forgot about the whole fight. You know what I'm saying?
So it's like, even when niggas get like that, I be like, it's cool because it's hoops. And it was good to see that he really felt like, bro, he needed some help.
That's what I'm saying.
My boy should have called me, dog.
I would have played. People's pain. That's what I'm saying. My boy had to let it out. He was sweating. That's what I'm saying, bro. And that hat ain't have no space. Everybody judges you off of wins and losses. And people be like, wait, hold on, dawg. Stop throwing that out there, dawg. That's what we judging. I'm at 40%.
That's all that matters. I'm 45%.
You see how he keep throwing it out there, dawg?
People only judge when it is. As a team, I'm 46. As the lead dog by myself, 53. I like that. I like that. I need a team. My nigga will win, man.
Shout out to Dane for carrying me, Isaiah, all of them.
Real talk. Real talk. I bought 37%. Shout out my boy, Bron, Kyrie. Y'all pretty good, ain't you?
My nigga Mello, you know what I'm saying? Tyson Champ, Ari.
But when you talk about like.
Steve Novak. I'm connecting with the chat.
By the way, we ain't bring up Steve Novak either.
We should have brought him up for the 16th conversation. Steve Novak.
