Hello listeners and welcome back to another episode of Law & Order, a special viewing unit of the show where we view, review, and lovingly question mark ridicule everyone's favorite cop drama. Law & Order, a special victims unit, every episode in a row from the beginning.
The way you said the threw off my rhythm. So you don't have to.
Nor should you want to at this point.
I am your.
Host, Matt Reuter, joining me. As always, the Los Migros guy that was in Texas and then now up in Manhattan for some fucking reason. Boy, this guy's got a real vendetta. I thought it was going to be that guy was crooked somehow.
That guy definitely has like a dress made of women's skin somewhere.
Yeah, he's like the first cousin of Ed Gein. That is Aviv Rubinstein over there. Not the cousin of Ed Gein. the Las Migras guy, Aviv Rubenstein over there. How are you doing today? How many people have you separated from their children today, Aviv?
My cousin Nikki's pregnant. You know anyone else who's pregnant?
Carisi, aren't you a police detective? Like, really? This is.
And she says, like, no. And he's like, come on, Rons, are we gonna do this?
Well, the fact that he asks Liv is like, as Roland's pregnant, it's like, that is not the person to be asking. that question too.
How you doing?
And if, if Rollins doesn't want to tell you if she's pregnant or not, then mind your own fucking business, Carisi.
Well, clearly he thinks it's that guy from the motel two years ago.
Cause he's an idiot. I, I just want to know when was the last time that the two of them fucked? Because it's, they definitely have, they definitely have obviously outside the window that this possibility.
He's got his crazy.
So he's, So he's a bit, I think he's a bit salty about it. But how am I doing, Aviv? Oh, you know, it's about how good could anyone really be these days, ultimately. But whatever that level is, I suppose, is where I am at. So I have the hottest of takes on a Reuter recommend.
Oh, shit.
Okay. Are you ready for this? So Cassie and I, over the weekend, went up and saw a production of, and Cassie and Matt both recommend, Cabaret.
Oh, Cabaret's great.
Yeah. I had never seen stage or the film adaptation.
The film is very good. It's different than the stage.
How different?
Very different. Really?
Okay.
Well, same plot? Yeah, yeah. Same plot. I don't know if you know this. I may have mentioned this on the show. The Altadena Musical Theater did Cabaret in 2024 and filmed it. And so last year, I cut together their pro shot of Cabaret. So I am very intimately familiar with that show. I know all the numbers. I know the tempos.
Oh, so they literally just filmed the stage production?
They filmed the stage production from nine different angles or whatever over three nights.
And the movie is very different from that?
The movie I know a little less well, but I don't remember the subplot. You know the subplot of the landlady and the fruit stand guy? Yeah. I don't think that that's in the movie at all.
Oh, that's a shame because that's kind of a big part of that whole thing.
Correct me if I'm wrong. And also... How.
Do you get rid of that? That's like a whole.
That's a whole.
That's a whole fucking thing. That leads into the act break.
Right, right.
So, like, I don't really know what you do with that.
I remember there being... It's like a similar moment at the act break. But I also think... I seem to remember that Cliff... And the Nazi guy. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know if it's the same.
I don't remember his name.
No, but I also don't know if it's the same Nazi guy. I think it's like.
Well, there's only the one really in it.
But in my mind, in the movie, it was like a soldier. But I could be confusing this with Sound of Music. But his.
You know, there's a through line.
What have you. But his bisexuality is even more clear in the movie than... Oh, okay. There's a scene where the three of them are lounging on each other, reading in the park.
Like out of The Dreamers?
Yeah, kind of.
Yeah, okay. But no, I had... had never uh the only thing i knew i knew some of the songs i've heard them dude.
The songs bang the songs are great.
It was one of those things again going going into something and not knowing anything about it really i mean i you one probably enjoys the material more and for something that's such a classic like this where everyone seems to know it but me yeah um You know, understanding that this show, the Broadway production, and the film, like, have influenced generations to come, and you can see.
Yeah, it's on the AFI.
Top 100 list. Yeah. I also want to say that the production that put it on, they, at the front of the.
No Jews allowed.
Yeah, they had a big sign. No, they did do a thing where they had basically, like, a clipboard. It's like, these are all the trigger warnings.
For what you are about to see. Oh, funny.
Sure.
Okay.
I mean, you're going to cabaret. But then in parentheses, it says it does contain spoilers. And I understood why, because even though I knew there were Nazis involved, I didn't know the extent. It was like, oh, it's Germany around this time, huh? Well, I don't know how we're going to... Oh, right.
Yeah. Okay.
But at the end where the guy, like the reveal.
Of the old man. Yes. Yes.
Again, it's so very well known, but the way it was written, it was executed on stage it's still even though you're expecting it it still is someone behind me like literally like audibly gasped yeah And I was like, wow, okay. It's really... And that was the moment where I was like, man, seeing the way that everyone is acting and all of the themes and even the specific actions that certain parties take, I'm just like, oh, it's not even like there are parallels.
This is literally the exact same fucking thing with the exact same type of people. They just seem to not have armbands on anymore.
The movie ends differently, too.
Oh, they don't put them all into a... Um.
So, once again, I remember the last shot of the movie because it's pretty harrowing. Do you want me to tell you? Are you ever going to watch it? Okay, spoilers.
At some point in time, probably, but not that I'm going to.
Small spoilers for Cabaret, the movie. So, they don't put the MC in the concentration camp, but he ends the movie. He does a little song, and you're in the Kit Kat club. And you don't see the audience. You just see the emcee. And then you see all of the, like, sort of shiny, reflective things behind him. So, like, the, whatever, plates and frames on the wall and whatever else. And in the reflection, it's just a crowd full of Nazis.
It's pretty staggering.
But, yeah, sometimes I don't get caught up on classics and stuff. So I come in with a real hot take of, like, hey, you know what was really good? That cabaret.
You ever heard of it? It's only 55 years late.
Yeah, something like that. So, yeah, it's nice to.
Support local live theater. Especially, like, those rep theaters that just, like, do a bunch of classics with, like, kind of the same cast every year. It's, like, cool.
Yeah, it's a nice thing to go and support.
And be around. It feels like a community.
Yeah, I definitely agree with that. So, other than that, doing kind of the same thing. Soup, different spoon type situation?
Same soup, different spoon.
What about you over there, Aviv? How are you doing this week?
I'm doing fine. The semester is over as of today. And so I have like two or three weeks before I am in class again. I have some bad news for you.
Oh.
All of my classes are evening classes this coming semester. So we're going to have to, I think the earliest we can start is like six o'clock on Wednesdays.
Okay.
That's not, it's not terrible. Um, quick Rubenstein recommends, but if, uh, you saw something very old, I saw something very new.
Oh, did you already text me about this?
Yes. Okay. And I also, I think I mentioned it on last week's show. I saw the Robert Pattinson, Skylar Gazando joint primetime. Holy shit.
Every review I have seen, every person that I've talked to that has seen it, which is basically just you and a lot of reviews that I've seen on Letterboxd, All of them are just like, this is insanity on screen. There's not been one person that has said anything less than, this is absolutely psychotic to watch, in a good way.
So, couple of things, couple non-spoiler things. Leanne did not know why To Catch a Predator was cancelled.
Oh, yeah, it's... It's kind of harrowing.
The person that plays that part, incredible, incredible casting.
Looks just like? No.
I don't know if, I don't know what he looks like even, but, but just like, you're like, wow, that guy, I don't want to give it away. Okay. Yeah, please don't. But I, um, you expect sort of, if you, especially if you haven't seen the trailer, you expect like maybe a, like a docudrama sort of situation. But if you, if you saw the trailer, um, The trailer makes it seem like, hey, what if this was like a metaphysical horror movie? Wouldn't that be weird? And then you watch it and you're like, oh, this is a metaphysical experimental horror movie that also just so happens to be the mostly true story of To Catch a Predator.
I just love the fact that Chris Hansen is so salty about it.
He fucking is so mad.
I think he's just mad. Like, did they have to, they had to have paid him something.
I don't know. But, but you will see why. Why he's mad about it. You'll see why he's mad about it. But you're, you'll also like, it'll sort of like loop back around and be like, whatever, Chris, like, like obviously you're going to do something like that, Chris Hansen. Cause that's who you are.
Right. I think the funniest thing I saw for one of like the numerous, cause he was on like a mini press tour denouncing the movie. But one of them was, like, right after he, I guess his family went to go see, which that's got to just be weird, but okay, fine. I guess if they made a semi-biopic about me, I would go see it with my family. I don't know why they ever would, but, you know, it seems strange, but fine. But the fact that he was like, eh, it's not that great of an impression, it's like, but my wife and kids said they thought it was a pretty good impression.
It is his... I love Pattinson. His... His Chris Hansen impression is similarly just absolutely insane.
I love that so much.
I gotta spoil one very small thing.
Someone doesn't have a seat. Someone really was, just thought they were.
Someone did want to take a seat. Okay, so there is a scene in the movie where Chris Hansen and his producer, played by Merritt Weaver, who's gonna get nominated for an Oscar for this movie, go into Jeff Zucker, the head of NBC's office, to learn that they're being moved to primetime, the titular primetime, right? And playing Jeff Zucker, the head of NBC, is Jeff Zucker, the former head of NBC.
I was going to say, it's got to be actual Jeff Zucker, right?
It is actual Jeff Zucker, and it fucking blew my shit.
Well, he was available.
I was a gog.
Were you more agog or less agog when you saw Ted Sarandos in that episode of the studio?
Equal agog.
Why is that so agogging to you?
I mean, for this one, like, especially knowing how To Catch a Predator ended, I don't know that if I were Jeff Zucker, I'd want to be in this movie.
Well, I think if you're Jeff Zucker, it's going to be, this movie's getting made with or without you.
Yeah, and he probably fucking hates Chris Hansen. Yeah, probably.
And plus now you get an extra paycheck out of it at the very least.
There's this subplot in the movie of, you know, it takes place in mostly in 2006. And so we're in the Iraq war and like his, like his Wario is Stone Phillips. Remember Stone Phillips?
Yes, I do.
So there's like a brief showdown between him and Stone Phillips. Like, Hey Stone, I'm, you know, I got the number one show on TV and Stone Phillips like, Oh, I'm going to Afghanistan. Yeah.
Who plays Stone Phillips?
I don't know. Some fucking guy. Was it actually Stone Phillips? No.
Everyone else is the actual person except.
For Chris Hansen. But it's great. I really, really loved it. It's very much my shit. It's a really weird, messy movie with a ton of just absolutely bizarre cameos.
I want very much to see that one.
Definitely in my top five of the year for sure. quite good wow.
Okay yeah after you showed me that uh trailer for you can see everything same director oh well if that trailer is any indication.
So same director lance oppenheim has the best best movie and best documentary of the year that.
Is going to be very interesting very bizarre did you see that uh kate mckinnon and seth meyers did Basically that, whenever she was on his show this week.
I did, I did.
It was so good.
Yes, quite good. Why would I deceive you?
I have no reason. I'm being totally real with you.
I only saw a clip of it, and it seems like, I know that this can't be true, but it seems like he just went for it, and she figured out what he was doing and played along, but it did not seem prepared.
I mean, who knows? I think another thing that was funny whenever Cassie and I were talking about this, she was like, oh, I was looking at it and it's rated R. One of the things is for graphic nudity. I'm like, is this like a weird thruple situation with Nathan Fielder?
Did you see the full trailer?
I did not.
Um, not no.
Oh, weird. Okay. It's just going to be sad. It's funny, like, as I'm going to be sitting there like, I feel bad for this guy. And I feel bad for her in a weird way because she's completely psychotic.
Yeah, she's not of this earth.
No, and you kind of got to feel bad for that on some level. Because it's like, she can't relate to anyone.
We'll see, October 16th.
I guess. I mean, obviously, like, don't, like, defraud people and ruin people's lives. But, you know, at the same time.
You heard it here first. Matt loves fraud.
Yes. Love it so much. Like, I don't know, perhaps visa fraud, like we will discuss on tonight's episode, which is Season 20, Episode 3 of SVU, entitled Zero Tolerance. But before we do that, we are going to take a quick trip to the mailbag. We have a little bit of gmail. I don't know about the other, but for the gmail, first email we have is from listener Jillian, pronounced Jillian, entitled Philosophical Discussions with Matt and Aviv.
Damn.
And Julian writes, did not expect to hear a deep philosophical discussion about the concept God this Monday morning, but I was here for it. Maybe consider a new tagline. Special viewing unit. Come for the SVU recap slash ridicule. Stay for the philosophical discussions. Happy question mark watching.
Well, I'll take it under advisement. Yeah, sure. It was like 5 a.m. on Monday. Thanks, Julian.
Yep. Next email we have is from listener Peggy Ann. Entitled Stabler, Peggy Ann writes, Hi Matt and Aviv. To answer Aviv's question in response to the Stabler video I shared on Instagram, no, Stabler did not die. Kathy died, and it segued into Stabler getting a spinoff. I stopped watching Law & Order shortly afterwards due to the infuriating disregard to COVID protocols in the height of the pandemic, while our favorite detectives screamed about others adhering to COVID protocols.
From what I've heard, the Stabler spinoff recently got canceled, and now he's returning to SVU.
All the best, Peggy N. Why did I think he was finally free?
You're never free of this show.
I thought that he posted the Nicole Kidman divorce picture.
Nope. This show is like fucking herpes. It will never go away. Once you have it on you, it will never go away.
Cool. Next up is from listener Judgy Ass Rose, a.k.a. Miss Rosemary NYC, a.k.a. a.k.a. a segment we like to call Judges Chambers. Rose writes in an email entitled, I fucking love Shake Shack. Judgment. Episode, sorry, season two, episode five, Baby Killer, which is a top ten episode for me, has a school shooting as the inciting incident, but I can't think of any others at the moment. Season five, episode 17, Mean, ends with one, but that doesn't really count. Judgment.
We have those two cookie Oreo packs in my office, and when I tell you I squirrel away at least one, often two, every single day, I have a whole pile in my cabinet at home just waiting for late night snacking. Take that, my famous boss who sucks. You know who I mean, but don't out me. I mean, I kind of do, but not really. Love that fake band shirt, Aviv.
It reminds me of one of our greatest memes, and it's Blake Lively saying, I have to pee, and the other girl from Gus... Leighton Meester. Thank you. Leighton Meester saying, go piss, girl. Bye, signed budding psychopath Noah the Monster, the Noah Porter Benson story coming soon from Ryan Murphy. Is that anything?
It is now, just because you spoke it into existence. Thanks, Rose. So we have you to blame for that when it comes up in.
So stupid, Rose.
Oh, I can't wait for fucking Stabler to be like, you're not my real dad. Like, shut up, Noah. Just throws him against the wall.
Stabler just like, yeah, puts him through a wall.
Yeah. But that's all the Gamale. It's Vince Gamale over to you, Aviv, for the blueski and the IG, which I did not check to see if we had any.
Yes. So in a segment we like to call, I just blew myself.
I'm afraid I just blew myself.
There's got to.
Be a better way to say that.
Fulberto suggests a new game called Red Herring or Egg on My Face, where Aviv turns off his camera and eats either some herring or an egg off of his face. And Matt has to guess which. Well, guess what, Matt? My camera's off. Here we go. All right.
Now, does the egg... How does the egg work? Do you crack it on your head?
How does the egg work?
Is it a prepared egg?
Well, that's part of the game. Well, right.
But then that would possibly mean that you'd be eating raw egg.
And I don't think that's.
A good idea.
We all got to do what we got to do, Matt.
I guess. Sacrificing for love of the game.
I have E. coli now.
That's how you're secretly going to get out of the show.
And from, and from the instant gram, we have someone that just wrote good morning. Okay. At, at white V neck writes in with a real. And, um, you know, now this is just like a part of the show where I, I send Matt reels that I'm sure. I hope you're all happy.
You see what you've done to us by making us engage on social media?
All right, Matt. All right.
No, you can't be serious. Could you please clear this up with me that they're trying to ruin the reputation?
I have no desire to ruin your reputation, Counselor. Detective, were you drinking with Ms. Faxon last night?
I wasn't drinking. Was she?
I saw her consume two drinks. So that is, if you couldn't remember, that was... ADA Kim Graylick going to court drunk at a drag show. Nope, that was Paxton. That was Paxton. Yeah, Sonya Paxton going to court drunk, but as a drag performance, which is pretty good.
A little weird, but sure.
It was a choice.
That was a choice.
We have some Instagram, an Instagram message from Miss Rosemary NYC who says, please tell me that you, Aviv, And or Matt, but I feel like he's always behind on movies, saw Resident Evil.
I am behind on movies.
I have not seen it yet. I did see it. I like it. I liked it.
I've heard good things. Anything that I've seen, it's been very... It's, at the bare minimum, far better than the Mila Jovovich ones.
Oh, yeah.
So, no matter what, you're going to be in a better spot.
To my... To that, Rose replies, baby hands so weird, which I can confirm in Resident Evil, baby hands so weird.
Oh, okay. Love that.
Rose predicted that last week my poll quote, which was the thing about chocolate chip waffles, would be my wife's yoga pants don't stretch this much, or I should have just shot the rabbit, but neither of them was right, and agreed with us that there was an anti- choice angel studios ass nonsense ending yeah she also sent us a picture of her palming a bunch of single serving oreo i assume from work anyway thank you rose thank you everyone for writing in you can get at us we're at sv podcast on blue sky and instagram the official blue sky and oh shit um we we got it just got a new instagram reel from peggy ann which is the the law and order svu theme opening speech and there's a there's like a chalk outline of
a of a ripped up um like lamb chop toy and uh oh it's it's multiple it's a lamb chop toy a stuffed bear a little monstery looking guy and just a dog covered in fluff thank you thank you all svu podcast on blue sky and instagram the official blue sky and instagram of all of your dogs But yeah.
If you want to write to us about your dog or otherwise, you can get at us, specialviewingunit at gmail.com. And now that that is out of the way, on to the main event, where we're going to be viewing and reviewing Season 20, Episode 3.
Yeah. You ready for the game this week? Oh, boy.
Are you going to eat egg off of your face? Nope.
I have a bowl that I've been munching on. You're already eating. Yeah. I have a bowl that I've been munching on of crunchy pitas. I just want to say crunchy pitas. So that's the game? Everyone's favorite game where I turn off my camera and you have to guess how many crunchy pitas are left in the bowl.
Okay.
Leandra's Lisa Simpson laughed from the other room.
That is positively insane.
Diabolical.
Okay. Okay. Kid, I ask questions about the bowl.
I suppose. You may, you may, you may. I'll even show you the bowl, but I have to throw it. When I was getting the bowl of crunchy pitas before we hopped on, Leanne was like, are you going to put them in a cup for Matthew?
No, apparently a bowl.
Okay, it's time to play Guess the Pitas!
Okay, what is the circumference of the bowl and the depth of the bowl?
You're going to see the bowl. This is like a.
Okay.
Like a cheers bowl. That's what we refer to them as. They're like the bowls that are in bars.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay.
And I'll even let you hear how many... I'll let you hear how many pitas are in there.
Ready? Yeah. Okay, so I have a couple follow-up questions. Great.
Uh happy to answer the number of pitas is dwindling as you ask.
Well yeah this is a point in time so if you are eating them currently i feel like you could very easily throw the count off by just eating one um but that is not the question my question is if there is a broken pita how is that counting.
There is a broken pita in here and it much like dollar bills if it's more than half it counts as a whole good to know um.
Four?
Three. Oh! So close.
So close with very to no information whatsoever.
So fucking close. Here's the thing.
I'm going to maintain it was four and you just fucking ate it before you turned your camera back on.
You'll never know.
You'll never know.
You asked too many questions.
There's an asterisk on this one, ladies and gentlemen. I'm taking the win on that one.
This has been everyone's favorite game, Guess the Pitas. That's truly... Now it's two.
Now it's... it's soon gonna be zero as we go to commercial break and after we get back from commercial break we're gonna be viewing and reviewing season 20 episode 3 of SVU entitled Zero Tolerance we're gonna do that as Aviv eats the remaining two pitas.
Two pitas right after this one pita ah ah.
Ah Aviv the Count Rubenstein hey that's racist I was gonna say is that anti-Semitic I don't know You're the one doing the count impression, though, so I don't know if that should be held against me. That was a setup job there.
Railroaded.
Railroaded by the Jews. Damn it. Again. And we're back. And as we said before the break, we're.
Going to be viewing... Oh, you don't want the part where you said railroaded by the Jews again on the air?
I never said that.
You did.
Just now. Season 20 episode railroaded by the Jews. Damn it.
Again.
I don't know what you're talking about. I never said that. That was AI. I think you fabricated that. That's all. Anyway, season 20, episode 3 of... We're going to start this over all the way back from the beginning here.
Hello, listeners, and welcome back to another episode of Law & Order Special Viewing Unit.
All right, we are back. And as we said before the break, we're going to be viewing and reviewing Season 20, Episode 3 of SVU, entitled Zero Tolerance. Just a reminder to our listeners, all the episodes available to watch on Hulu and Peacock. This one is insufferable. You should skip it.
Crazy.
That's why we're watching it.
Crazy.
So that you don't have to. Boy, this is 2018 just branded right in the side of this week's episode.
What do you mean? It's also like now.
Also now, but it's almost quaint what the manner in which this is all happening. Yeah, again, don't watch this episode. But before we get into breaking down the episode and the grandest tradition that we have on this podcast, Aviv. You are going to hit us with a 90-second recap of what happened in this week's episode. Just a reminder, I believe, to you, Aviv, the time to beat now is two minutes.
Two minutes and, like, three seconds.
Okay, and two minutes and three seconds.
I put it up on the screen last time. So the time to beat is two minutes and three seconds, and I put it up on the, it's, like, right above my head on the video on Instagram. Okay.
I mean, the goal was to get it.
It's supposed to say, Gets it.
90 seconds.
I'm trying. I'm not going to make it this time. This is going to be awful.
Well, it's pretty light on the details, to be completely honest. But if you want to watch, if you do these 90-second recaps, you can check them out on our Instagram. So, Aviv, in the grandest tradition we have on this podcast, we are going to put 90 seconds on the clock. Why don't you tell us what the fuck happened in this week's episode of SVU?
Fit check. Today I'm wearing my Radiation Records shirt that I got in Rome. Radiation Records is a record store in Rome. I'm just, you know, just driving people to our Instagram.
Yeah, very cool. It's a shame that we don't get any money off of that.
No, or views. Okay, you guys. Dr. What's-His-Nuts shows up to Amanda Rollins' place and is like super psyched to be a, what's it called? Family? And meanwhile, a family of a different kind is having some trouble. A guy who we learn is named... Keith, I think? Yeah, whatever. Calls a cab because his daughter's sick and she's wrapped up in a sheet and the cab needs to take her to the hospital. They get to the hospital and he just tosses her away like a piece of trash.
And it turns out that her name is Delilah. Hey there. And she is not his daughter. She is his, how you say, sex slave for the night. And her pimp is named Uncle Luke, parentheses, he's not really my uncle, but he wouldn't hurt me. He sends me on dates with people with his friends. And so they raid Uncle Luke's place and find just like a host of girls.
And one of them, a Guatemalan girl named Gabriela, is in a cage. And why is she in a cage? Because, well, she's 10. And also a cage is from whence she came. because her mother crossed the border illegally and she was separated at the border in Texas. So now we don't give a shit about Delilah anymore or Luke. And we're really, really, we're really, really concerned about Gabriella and making sure that she doesn't get sent back to ice and to detention center.
So when fucking what's his nuts comes to, to take her, to back to the detention center, Olivia arrests him. And then now the SVU has become the defendant in like a habeas corpus case where she's like, this is kidnapping. That's illegal. And everyone's like, the federal government says it's fine. And she's like, but why does the federal government say it's fine? So she loses obviously. And then they have to take Gabriella to a quote dorm like facility, much where she'll be with other minors, much like camping. And so we get, we see the dorm like facility with other minors, much like camping because Olivia and stone call in a favor from checks notes, predator hunter, Carl Weathers.
That's where we got all that clout.
There you go. And so Carl Weathers goes and, and freeze Gabriella reunites, uh, her with, with her mother because he and the judge like used to be gym buddies in Chicago. And then, uh, And then she's free, but all of the thousands of other children are still in there. And the last words of our episode are, said without a shred of irony, welcome to America, Dick Wolf.
It's, so when I say it's light on episode this week, I mean, we don't give a flying fuck about the sex trafficking ring, about any of the, because there are still like seven girls that Luke is fucking pimping out. We don't hear theirs. We don't give a flying fuck about their story.
And we actually, so, so we're jumping ahead a little bit, but- There's no reason to believe that Luke will go to jail because they, the reason that they, they end with Gabriella is because all of the other girls are like, we love uncle Luke. He is, he is our best friend. He's doing nothing wrong. And they're like, well, our last best chance is this girl, Gabriella. And, and she's all fucked up in a different way. And they just seem to like lose interest in catching Luke when, um, it seems like he's just back doing his thing.
Well, I mean, so, we'll get to it, I guess, because it's very quick in this episode as it turns out. I agree with you that the show is telling us nothing is going to happen to him. I don't think it's because of what you said, where the girls are likely to stand up for him, because I think there was a yada yada line where it's like, all of these girls have basically been returned to their homes. Hope they don't go back to Luke.
Oh, I didn't catch that they were returned to their homes. I thought that they just went back to Luke.
No, it was they all got returned to their parents or whatever like that.
Except for the girl with the demented grandmother.
Yeah, something like that. And the reason why we pay so much close attention to Gabriella is because she's the only one that doesn't have a home to be sent to. Now, but the way that Luke, like Uncle Luke is talking whenever he's in the interrogation room, they're making it sound like he's been there and done it all before. Like he knows he'll be out of jail by the end of the day on mail. Like, but, but that's not ever how it reads. He doesn't come off as like a hardened criminal.
No. So he looks like my friend, John, like a lot. And that's not, I don't love that.
Who's that worse for?
John doesn't act anymore. It's fine. Oh, gotcha.
Uh, but you know what I mean? Where it's like, they, if, if they wanted that, then they needed to do something more with this guy, but I guess they couldn't make them too scuzzy.
Otherwise they, I mean, he's pretty scuzzy.
He's pretty scuzzy, but, like, you gotta do something. For the fact that he has, well, I guess he's got the confidence of a white man walking into the police.
Yeah, that's the thing, right? Yeah, I guess. And he's like, I'm doing these girls a favor. They're getting three hots and a cot. And Finn's like, there were no cots in there.
Well, it's also the fact that Stone is like, he seems all hell-bent on this case and then immediately forgets about it.
Loses interest.
It's weird.
Shiny, shiny things. So we open with Rollins in her place with, what the fuck's her fucking kid's name? Jessie. I was like, Jackie? No, that's not right. Something with a J. She's reading a book all alone with her moose, whose E broke loose, E broke free, and S came loose, and then just says moo on the, okay, whatever. And so the doctor, Dr. Baby Daddy, it's a family name, comes to the door, and he's like, please give me another chance. That waitress whose number I got, I actually didn't get her number. I got her mom's number because her mom was going to have surgery, and she knew I was a doctor, and so she wanted me to call her mother. Are you buying any of this? She wanted me to call her mother and reassure her that
she was going to be fine on her surgery, that I wasn't performing, but they knew that I was a surgeon. Here's a sunflower.
Yeah, and you didn't call me for the.
Van Gogh exhibit. Fucking kill me. Play the song. There we go.
It's been dormant for so long, and now that it has been brought back into existence, it will stay with us for another term of, oh, I don't know, six, eight weeks before it'll finally fade.
Did the Van Gogh Museum come to Seattle or Denver when you were living in Denver?
I don't know.
It was like a traveling art exhibit that was in L.A. for a long time, and it was just like, Van Gogh, here he is, here he was, projection, starry night, fucking kill me.
If it came to either Denver or here, I did not go to see it.
Did not go.
Don't know. And Robbins, being a police detective and being able to tell when someone is lying to her, is like, ah, fucking come on in.
And he immediately beelines to Jesse because he knows where that bread is buttered. And is like, are we reading and eating broccoli? And Rollins is like, don't talk to her. And he sits down. He's like, I'm going to read this story to you. Dude, don't go into someone's house and just hang out with their kid. That's so fucking weird. Yeah.
Especially the lady that you've been cheating on. with sex workers, and clearly that waitress thing didn't go off without a hitch like you think it did, buddy. I don't know, is he just, like, dumb? And it's like, yeah, that definitely worked.
I think, speaking of the confidence of a white male, he's like, I got this. I'm fucking amazing at this.
He's like, I am on fire tonight.
Did you see that line? I outlied a detective. And you know what? He fucking did.
I think Rollins is much like with most sex pest men. It's just like, fucking, okay, fine. Just come in, but stay away from the kid. You're fucking talking to the kid now.
Okay. Okay. She gives him a look like, love? Could this be family? Wait a second.
He's reading to my child, even though he literally was just fucking a waitress probably early. He probably just came from fucking the waitress. Who are we kidding?
Yeah. That's where he got the sunflower. And so we cut over to a cab driver. He's from Lagos, or at least he's listening to some radio program from Lagos. And he picks up a white guy who I fucking still don't know his name and Vince. And Vince is like, my daughter is very sick. help me take her to the hospital. She's wrapped up in a sheet. And then they get to the hospital. He just yeets her right out of the cab. And he's like, step on it, motherfucker.
And the guy's like, what the fuck? He's like, just go, drive. And they're like, well, this is not going to end well for anyone involved here. I was a little surprised. But then again, she was wrapped up, initially, I thought, in garbage bags.
Nope. I wish. I was so close to writing it, too.
I just wanted it to be garbage bags so bad so we could do it.
Sometimes you just want it to be true.
Sometimes you just want girls to be found wrapped up in garbage bags.
Um garbage bags so there's no the the the she won't this girl whose name is delilah won't let them do a rape.
Kit but somehow the doctor is like yeah but there was signs of sexual trauma so i.
Guess not not somehow i think this girl got fucked.
Up Well, I think she says something about tearing, and I'm like.
Bruising or something? I don't know.
Well, I'm just thinking, if she wouldn't let you do an exam, visually, if there is tearing that you can see.
Where's the tearing?
That was kind of my question, so I think it was a little scripted consistency there, but fine.
It's Carisi and Olivia Benson. And Carisi like peeks his head and he's like, I'm Detective Carisi. This is Lieutenant Benson. And Delilah's like, hey, I'm Delilah. And I'm going to do that. Not as much as I thought I would in this episode, actually.
She's like, you know how it is in fucking New York City? Not great, Bob.
Fun fact.
Why don't you put the fucking guitar down and help me?
This was a lyrics for lunch episode. But hey there, Delilah is written about a real person. who was an Olympic track hopeful who met the guy from Plain White Tees at a party. She had a boyfriend, and he wrote her a song anyway. And so she was not super jazzed about having that song written about her.
Her name was Susie, funny enough.
Yeah, no, it was Delilah. I know. But everyone knew that he was like, I wanted to fuck you real bad, but you have a boyfriend. I don't know.
I don't know. I feel like most people don't know that, though, that she's going to encounter in her life.
That's true, but at the time when it was a huge hit and she was in New York City, it wasn't the best time for her. So, Olivia's like, actually, you can call me Olivia. Okay, whatever. So, Delilah says that Uncle Luke, he's not really my uncle, gave her some pills and And he's, like, my best friend. He wouldn't hurt me. He just, like, sent me out on a date with one of his friends. But, like, I'm allowed to not go back if I don't want to go back. So, like, that's pretty dope, right?
Yeah, and it gives me drugs to make it easier to get through this. I don't understand what the problem is here.
Yikes.
Yikes. Also, Uncle Luke, he's probably off sexually assaulting Kesha or something.
I had that Dr. Luke, Uncle Luke thing, too. Right?
I wrote that down. I was like, wait, isn't that the... Oh, no, that's... Hold on. That's Dr. Luke, Uncle Luke.
I don't know.
It's not great. You kind of have to.
What a horrible producer tag, Uncle Luke.
I mean, Dr. Luke's not much better.
That's true.
They both sound like.
At least he has a degree.
They both. Yeah, I mean, they both just sound like they're going to touch you when you don't want it to happen.
And guess what?
That's precisely what happened.
So they get the security footage from the hospital and the car just pulls up and the door opens and the girl just like tumbles out. And they can't quite see the license plate.
Which bullshit, because Finn's like, ah, but I can tell what type of plate it is. I'm like, horseshit. If you can see it when it's pulling away, if you did like a little enhance thing, you could fucking see it.
He actually says, send it to Taru to enhance it. And then they immediately, we don't see any of that. And then they immediately go... to the cab company i'm like why the fuck just why not just read the fucking license plate what are you guys doing.
Yeah what why do we need this you end up at the same place regardless so i don't understand why we're because it's not because he's like oh it's probably a car service or an uber and then they just show up at the at the right place at the guy so it's like yeah if you didn't just.
Read just why it's so dumb so they show up And they're like, hey, we're the cops. And not the Lagos guy, just the other guy that's with him, like, bolts. And he says, welcome to... Finn says, welcome to America 2018. And our Lagos.
Do we have a name for this guy?
Yes, we do. His name is Carl Weathers.
No, wait.
Nope.
Nope.
Nope. His name is Chinua Iwobi. Okay.
Wow, he's got a first and last name.
Yeah.
Good for him.
Chinua Iwobi.
All right, so Chinua is like, hey, man. Because he expresses the exact... The reason that that guy bolted is he says the exact same thing where it's like, please don't deport me. I've been here for a fucking decade.
I have a wife and kids.
Yeah. And, you know, I got... fucking knocked over last week for 600 bucks, but I can't call the cops because then I will, you know, be deported. Yeah.
He said he wanted to call the cops when the guy dropped the girl out of the cab, but he couldn't, and he couldn't even do it when he was mugged. And so Finn gives him his own personal business card and is like, Hey there, Delilah, if this happens to you again, just give me a call, which is weird because I think it's like, partially character inconsistent partially character consistent with what he says later on which is like i fucking hate immigrants yeah i um i have i have a justification for it but we'll get there yeah i uh.
Yikes i i i it's it is i don't know i mean i i would love to hear your theory of why it's consistent because i was going to be like i and then he's later is like fuck immigrant labor. I don't know.
It's, I could tell, I could tell you now it's because like other Republicans, he only cares about an issue when it like affects him directly. And so because he, he met the, like the good immigrant who is, has a job and is paying his taxes and has a wife and kids and has been here for 10 years. He cares about that immigrant, but not the immigrants that he's never met and doesn't extend the, the, idea that they are human beings. So it's like very, a very Republican thing for him to do is, is my short answer.
So he's against the idea of them, but the ones that he meets that do the exact thing that has been statistically shown that this is how most, okay. Fantastic.
So yeah. Um, that's, that's my theory or it's just a mistake.
I mean, how, how generous do we want to be today? Probably not very, uh, the show probably wants.
Us to think, uh, It's that? Or not think at all?
I think the show would like us to think generously of Finn and not realize that's fucking bullshit. Because these are our heroes, remember?
But also Finn is pretty straw man. His argument is pretty straw man at the end of the episode. Which, good. There is no legitimate argument.
It is so funny to see them try to both sides everything, and it's just.
I actually thought that they did a bad job of both sides-ing and a good job of actually taking kind of a stance. And then they backed it off toward the end, but I was like, is the show going to actually say something?
No, but I was kind of surprised with some of the language that was used on primetime television here. In just a moment.
Yeah.
So they get the information for.
Like where the guy picked the dude up. Yeah.
So they go knock on some doors in the building and they find out that whoever was in 4B, I think it was, is being rented out as an Airbnb because the woman that lives there is in Paris or studying abroad or something like that. So she's renting this out on Airbnb and there was a dude... that fit the description of the guy they're looking for that's staying there right now.
White 40s gray hair. And the woman in 4D who gives them this information has, like, whatever RFK has, the, like, frozen vocal cord thing. She's like, he's down the hall.
Yeah, she's... Carisi's very sweet on her.
I think. Yeah, I don't know. Other than her vaguely reminding me of RFK, she's fine. But they talk to Vince. They knock on the door. Vince opens. He's like, I'm on my way to LaGuardia without any luggage. I'm here for a car convention from Cleveland. I'm in mufflers and exhaust.
And that convention closed two days ago. So that's why I'm on my way to LaGuardia now.
I was expecting Carisi to be like, exhaust like you're full of hot air. Yeah, right.
That actually would have been a good one for Carisi. You should write for the show.
I should. I should just do the jokes.
We haven't had a wisecrack in a while.
So long. Like a decade. So he says that he didn't take a car service. He doesn't know what the fuck they're talking about. And they're like, oh yeah, but the guy, the driver identified you. He's like, oh yeah, I did take a car service to the movies. I'm like, oh yeah, what'd you see? He's like, the new Tom Cruise movie. He's like, new Tom Cruise movie? You're arrested.
You're under arrest. Fuck you. He's like, what, is that a crime? He's another wisecrack. The really good wisecrack. She's like, Seeing a movie isn't a crime in New York, but rape is.
What movies did Tom Cruise have out in 2018?
I was literally just looking this up.
Which Mission Impossible was it?
Mission Impossible Fallout came out in July of 2018. This episode takes place in October of 2018. So unless fucking... Did that have an extended run? 90 day window? I mean, maybe. Fucking maybe. No, yeah. He just did Mission Impossible Fallout and then... He did a short in 2020 called Au Revoir, Chris Hemsworth.
Ah, okay.
Yeah, it's three minutes long.
So that's how we know Vince is full of shit. There's not even a movie in the theater, man.
I love Mission Impossible Fallout.
That is a good one, though. I do like it.
That's the one where Henry Cavill reloads his arms. Yes, it is.
Indeed it is.
With that mustache. I did the move. None of you could see it. Including me. Including you. Okay, so... So we.
Take Keith back to the interrogation room. And he's like... Or Vince, excuse me. And Vince is like, look, man. I'm the good guy here. I took her to the hospital. Doesn't that count for something?
And they're like, oh, you can go.
Yeah, he's like, oh, thanks. And this is where I was like, the language. Vince is like, sit down, asshole. You don't get.
Sit the fuck down, motherfucker.
But the fact that he calls him an asshole on... I realize that is not the darkest of swears or whatever like that, but I feel like that is not one you get on TV.
A whole lot. We have to eat our words. So this episode takes place right around this time of year, the end of September, beginning of October. And Mission Impossible Fallout was still in 538 theaters at the time for this week. Oh, okay. His alibi checks out.
Yeah, okay, well, I guess they should let him go then, Aviv. And plus, he did take her to the hospital, so he's really a good guy. He went to go see Tom Cruise, he found a random girl, took her to the hospital, certainly didn't rape her in between.
They basically break him immediately because his wife's calling him, and then his son is calling him, and they're like, if you ever want to talk to your wife or son again.
I was like, that's fucking dark, what are you going to do, you going to black bag this guy?
Apparently so. But he said that he met this guy, Luke from back page, which is like a, like a sort of lascivious magazine, um, that stopped running in New York, but he like saved his number from the year before and, you know, found him, found himself a girl, a literal girl. And, uh, and, and, you know, the question on everyone, especially, um, crazy's mind is what's up with Rollins. What's going on with Rollins.
Yeah. And you know, Liv certainly isn't going to say anything about what's going on with Rollins. And Rollins isn't saying anything, but all Carisi cares about, because he knows.
They're like on a sting. And he's like, what's up with Rollins?
And she's even like, you should fucking ask Rollins that.
Sometimes you just gotta ask yourself, what's up with Rollins?
Again, Carisi, put your big boy pants on and go over there and talk to her.
Dr. Luke is like fleeing from the scene. He's like, what's going on with Amanda?
Again, Carisi. you're being a child right now.
All right.
This isn't fucking a high school. Go talk to her like a person, like a human adult.
So they say, and he doesn't even do that. So they set up a sting. Finn wears a gold chain. Okay. And, and goes up to, to like the fucking bunny ranch situation where like I keep wanting to call him Dr.
Luke.
Uncle Luke parades a bunch of literal preteen girls in front of him. And he's like, I can do whatever I want with these girls. And he's like, well, within reason. Don't mess up my investment here.
Which, Jesus Christ. And then Finn looks over. He's like, what about that one? And we pan over and it is a little Hispanic girl in a cage. A cage.
A dog cage.
Yeah, like a dog kennel crate situation.
And so he's like, just one thing, I'm a cop. And then for whatever reason, because this is a soundstage and not a real place, the cops just descend from somewhere in the building? Yeah. How's that possible?
Because Uncle Luke starts to take off and just out of nowhere, live Terry Tate office linebackers with him into a crash pad.
And they ADR her saying, stop police, because I guess legally they have to identify themselves before they tackle you.
Yeah, mid-air while she was already in flight. And at this point, and then Carisi is talking to the girl, like, you know, trying to wrangle the girls, being like, you're not in trouble. Finn is not moving. He's trying to assist no one.
Well, it's been a harrowing situation. He's had to almost buy one of these girls.
But I feel like his performance in this sting was like he wasn't even trying. He was like, we've got this guy dead to fucking rights here.
It's over for him.
It's over for him no matter what.
I'm a sergeant. I don't got to fucking tackle him.
Because Liv is putting the cuffs on Uncle Luke, or she's trying to. Carisi is talking to... the girls. Finn, just doing nothing, rather than going over to help this poor girl in the cage, just says, Liv, there's another one over there. Liv, in the middle of handcuffing this man, stops midway through, calls Carisi over to finish cuffing this guy.
Because she's going to go speak her four words of Spanish that she knows.
Right, but why doesn't Finn just go over and help this girl?
He's done his duty. He's off. He's off the clock. He actually has been off the clock this whole time.
The fact that he's doing this, it's not even overtime for him. It's just like literally he had nothing else to do tonight. But you know what I'm saying? Where it's like real literally.
Tomorrow I've got to babysit. Tonight I can babysit.
Yeah. Like rather than do his job, he's going to make a woman do it for him. And instead just point it out. Like, hey, look, girl in cage, you go deal with it.
So the girl in the cage, very afraid. Don't take me back. Don't take me back. Oh, my God. And Olivia's like, por favor, yo soy policia. And she's like, no, don't fucking do this.
No, that makes it worse.
And Olivia gets this look on her face like, oh, no, immigrants. So we come back from commercial and we learn that this like they're like maybe like a half dozen girls. And one of the girls, you know, it's like it's like a real United Colors of Benetton situation. And so one of the girls who happens to be Asian is like, oh yeah, I'm hanging out with Uncle Luke because my mom and dad freaking hate me.
Yeah, and we find out another one where it's like, we get like a run, because Stone shows up and he's like, wow, look at all the victims.
And Liv gives us a look. They're so young.
Yeah, that's just, yeah, Stone. When I called you to say there was a child sex trafficking ring, what did you think I meant?
I thought you meant the sexy kind of children. I watched that girl undercover show. All right, Stone.
I think interrogation room two is open. Why don't you go in there and I'll follow you in there.
Why don't you take a seat?
Exactly.
And so another girl said that Luke picked her up from the bus station and he gave her food and some sick kicks.
Yeah, McDonald's and some sick kicks. And now she will turn tricks for the band.
I'll let you guess what... ethnicity the girl who has to say sick kicks is?
I am going to guess.
Irish? Laplander. So all these kids have really fucked up home lives. They're abused. One of them has a demented grandmother who they didn't have any fucking food.
I don't know why. That's tragic, but That's, I mean, just calling her the demented grandma who just is so whacked out of her mind that she can't get food.
Oh, I forgot to tell you. This is like how my week has been. A crazy old man cornered me at the grocery store and talked to me for 20 minutes about how aliens are putting chips in your body and the chips move around so the doctors can't find them to remove them.
This is when you need to train jobs to just attack people.
I honestly, probably a pretty good job. So none of the girls think that uncle Luke is, is bad for them. They all think that they're contributing to the household and they're all, it's all like a one big happy family thing. And, um, and so they, they interrogate uncle Luke and he's like, I take in homeless and abused children. I give them home.
I give them, I give them home. I give them food. And, uh, stone is like, you're pimping them out. You're selling them for people to have sex with them. And he's like, I'm just selling their company, their children. I can't control who they choose to fuck.
And I'm like, wow. And Stone's like, yeah, I'm going to make it my life's mission to make sure that you never get near a woman ever again, frankly.
Turns out, no, he doesn't.
Yeah, no, but then the guy's like, hey, I'll be out of, he's like, I'm like Teflon, nothing sticks to me. But again, it doesn't fit this character. We don't know enough about him to make that make sense.
Other than he looks like my friend John.
Yeah, you needed someone whenever they were going into the interior. And this is a quick thing that they do all the time. Just have someone be like, oh, his rap sheet. He's been arrested six times for this, but he's never... We've never been able to hold him or whatever like that. That sets it up whenever he says, like, I'm just doing all of this.
Rap sheet as long as my arm.
Right. You could just do that. It makes the dialogue and the performance make a little bit more sense, but.
I guess. But they... Stone is like, that girl out there is 10. He's like, I love my little Gabriella. And so when Stone says, I'm going to make it my life's mission to... That you never touch another girl again. He's like, blah, blah, blah. I want a lawyer. Goodbye. Goodbye. Goodbye. It's kind of funny.
And that's a wrap on him. So goodbye, indeed. It's a wrap on Dr. Luke.
Bye, Luke. So they know that this girl's name is Gabriella. And she gives... Rollins for last name, which is Suarez? Sosa. Sosa. Gabriela Sosa. And so they run her through Nick Mick, which is like a dumb name for something. I know that we've had it before, but it's a dumb name for something. And so spin the wheel. It's cartel or ice.
Cartel or ice.
No, as it turns out, runaway.
Runaway. Why?
For a foster home trying to get down to Texas because of ice. So sure. Ice.
And also cartel. Well, yes.
I guess those would only be two.
So she was in foster care, Kelly and Alan Wellback. So they go to the Wellbacks who are in New Jersey, and the Wellbacks are like, well, first, as they're approaching the Wellbacks, Rollins and Carisi are like, you pregnant?
Yeah, Carisi's like, basically, why? I think he basically just says, like, why didn't you tell me?
Yeah, my cousin Nikki's pregnant. You know anyone else who's pregnant? And Ron's like, shut up. And he's like, why didn't you tell me?
And she's like, I didn't know how. I'm like, what the fuck does that even mean? We need more information about what is or was happening.
I think the question of last week's episode has not yet been settled. We live here in the future, and we also know that a network TV show would never allow her to have an abortion. But I think we're supposed to be thinking that she is still considering having an abortion. Maybe.
Um.
Um, indeed.
You know, honestly, I'm not... Here's the thing. I don't know if I could even put myself in that position because I already know the future, so, like, I can't even.
Yeah, yeah. And also, like, there's no way that NBC would allow a main character to have an abortion.
You don't think? No.
Not in 2018. Hmm.
Oh, I guess there was that question... Yeah, was it last week or the week before whenever the question was asked to Liv? Like, oh, so did you have one?
Yeah, it was last week. She just doesn't say anything. Yeah, yeah, yeah. She just doesn't say anything. But... You decide.
Whatever you think happened, happened.
That's what happened. Right side of history podcast. So they talked to the Wellbacks, and they're not happy with them. They're like, your one job is to keep her safe. And she's like, Mrs. Wellback is like, what the fuck you mean? Your one job is to not separate fucking parents from their children. I know. She got iced, you bitch.
Yeah, it's like, and your job as an agent of the state... with the monopoly on the ability to murder is to not be put, not make this situation happen.
She says, our government separated her from her mother. Good boy.
And they seem, they're like, gasp. It's like, oh boy, it's going to be this episode. All right. So I, I, I will say this.
So this, it's going to be, it's going to get worse before it gets better.
It's from this point forward that I would like to, get ahead of something here in terms of as we lovingly ridicule and bitch about this show everything that the or not everything but the points the show or some of the points i guess are trying to make about how bad this this policy of separating parents uh from their.
Children you actually like it.
Like the policy no i in fact i love it in fact hate this policy and such and The show, I think at some point, is trying to say that, although they try to walk it back at the same time. This is so goddamn preachy. It's exhausting.
I might disagree with you kind of in places. We'll talk about it. I have some... It's just... I have a slightly different take.
They might as well just do, like, a turn to the camera, and then they walk off, and they're just in a soundstage. They're like, you know, we're having a lot of fun here today, but we're here to talk about a serious issue. Which is, the US... Like, you know, where it's like, they might as well just be spiking the camera and just talking directly into it. Be like, are you listening, dear viewer?
I agree, but given the. State that we're in now, it feels like everyone and every, like every single TV show and, and movie and radio show and whatever should be doing the same thing. Like it feels preachy, but I also have to see, like, I also have to look at like, no one else is talking about this in, in this way.
No, I, and I understand that. And I also understand for, More likely than not. The people that they are trying to say this to are people that didn't really get the nuance the first time around, so they needed.
To have someone... Well, guess what? They don't get the nuance this time around either. Right, no, I understand that. Because our user reviews are a nightmare.
But it's just... This show has become, for years at this point, has been so fucking stupid. And then they're like trying to do something so serious. And again, I applaud them for the thought. And again, agree with it. But it just, it is so clunky. Whenever Liv is in the courtroom, it's just like, then what the hell are we doing? I'm like, oh my God, stop.
Please make the pain go away. That's the part that is too much, for sure. So before we put anyone in court, we learn that the Wellbacks... adopted or fostered Gabriella from a detention facility for kids in Texas, and they figured that they could give her a better life than she would have in a, quote, vacant megastore or army base. Holy shit. Yes. This is actually a spinoff of the show Superstore. The Superstore has closed. What is it called? Cloud Nine? Cloud Nine has closed, and it's just a bunch of child immigrants.
Yeah, it's Superstore 2018.
But also they're like biological kid who doesn't get a name told her, like Gabriella wanted to go back to Texas to be with her mother who's still in a detention center and the Wellbacks biological kid was like, oh, you fly to Texas from New York and so that's why she like ran away and went to New York.
Yeah. They were like, we didn't think she was actually going to fucking do it, which, you know, again, reasonable. Yeah.
She's 10, but Olivia's like, or someone is like, give me a contact for Gabriella's mother immediately. Fucking get fucked.
Yeah.
You guys.
And the fact that our detectives are able to just so easily navigate this, this.
And get her asylum.
Yeah. Like, The amount and how quickly this all got through, matter of, what, three, four days?
Yeah, this Deus Ex Machina is real. I mean, I love Carl Weathers as much as the next guy, but don't distract me with Carl Weathers.
I mean, you got a stew going. You got a freedom stew going there.
He does get a stew going at one point. He does. But back at the squad... They ask, Rollins, Carisi, and Finn ask Gabriella what her favorite ice cream flavor is. She said the vanilla. And Finn's like, mine's chocolate chip salted caramel. I'm like, Finn, this isn't about you.
And then Rollins is like, wow, they just have that at your local boutique? He's like, no, no, no. They bring that in special for me. It's like, can we.
Focus up here, guys? So she's eating her little hoodsy ice cream and Olivia's like, okay, we put a call into the Office of Refugee Resettlement. That shit is bleak.
This is, it feels very like 1984.
Office of Refugee Resettlement is a real fucked up name for just anything.
By the way, did I tell you that I saw an ad for the U.S. military the other day? I think it was for, I don't even know, it was for whatever the, whichever branch of the armed services, it was just under the war.gov, which is the fact that that is a URL.
Fucking kill me.
But it literally had the phrase, peace through strength.
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
And I was like, oh, oh no. Peace through superior firepower. I, oh my lord, did, Did you guys realize 1984 wasn't an instruction manual, right?
It's... Well, they would have to be able to read.
Right, and, you know, Hegseth famously quoting Quentin Tarantino's version of the Bible.
God, that was so fucking dumb. Anyway, speaking of dumb, Olivia's like, I called the Office of Refugee Resettlement, and Rollins, this is just like two dumb bitches telling each other exactly. Rollins is like, I'll take her. Okay. Olivia's like, you can't take her. This....
Sv i swear to god they anytime it's like there is an unsupervised minor for any period of time at svu it could be the parents just went to go to the bathroom there is a 60 40 chance that someone's good your child is going to have been taken by someone working at svu for their own devices what are those.
Devices it's an inside job so ron's like i'll take her olivia's like you can't take her and ron's like well you took noah and she's like That's very different. And Finn, Carisi, Stode, Rollins, me, you, we're all like, is it? Is it that different?
Rollins is the one that's like, not really. It's right on the line there, Liv, if this is at all different than what you did.
Olivia is like, you can't take her. So you can tell she's serious because she's whispering. So they get... I would love for them to.
I would love for everyone else to jump in and be like, yeah, Liv, you know.
Why don't you have a seat?
And then Liv has to be like, no, it's different.
No way, it's mine.
How dare you?
It's different. I went to court.
Sort of. Kind of?
I rescued him from his grand... Uh-oh. Oh, no. Oh, now I hear it.
Didn't I murder someone else in order to make sure the dad never got him back?
Oh, Jesus. All right.
You know... Well, this is different. This is the federal government doing.
No, this is different because her mom is alive.
Look, Rollins, you're already growing one. You don't get this one, all right? I'm going to get this one.
I can't have one on my own. So they get.
Stop being so selfish, Rollins.
They get Gabrielle's mother, Maria, on a zoo with her immigration attorney. And her immigration attorney may as well be taking fire. He's like, it's real fucked up here, Gil. This will get settled either in days, weeks, months, years, or never. And I just.
Goodbye. And then some fucking faceless ice agent comes in. He's like, you have a camera? Oh, someone! She's trying to exercise her rights! Get her!
So Rollins goes on a date with Dr. Polak. And she's like, and then... the ice agent came in and took the camera from her. And he's like, wow, crazy.
So how about this wine? Right?
So he does order them a glass of wine and she, and this is where she tells him that, that she's pregnant. But listeners, I'm assuming Rose, I'm also going to assume Ezra, maybe you, Matt, do you notice the fucking box of bread? The, but no, there was on the side of the table. It was like about half the size of a shoebox lengthwise, right?
So it's like a long skinny box and there were slices of rye bread sticking out of it like vertically. Like a rubber plant or whatever. Or a snake plant. What is that thing called?
Snake plant.
Like a snake plant. But like rows of fucking dark rye bread sticking out vertically with like spacers in between. So it wasn't even a, it was like four pieces. It wasn't even a lot of rye bread.
So like rather than a basket of bread, they have like this weird box set up?
Fucking weird box of bread, man.
No, I didn't, I didn't notice this. I was thinking the whole time, whenever it's like, ah, this wine, I'm like, wait a second. Like I, this, I don't.
Someone told me you liked Chablis once.
I think it was her at a different point in time, he says. But this is where she's like, yeah, I'm pregnant, so that's the wine. It's not going to happen. And so he's like, oh, it's from the, okay, great. Well, you know, whatever you want to do, I am here for. And especially if that thing that you want to do is not have this baby, and I'll even come with you.
That is what you want to do, what I want to do, which is not have this baby.
Whatever you decide. Whichever abortion clinic you want to go to, my treat.
We can go to the better one that's a little further away.
But I know the girl at the closer one. Exactly.
I've developed a relationship with the one that's closer.
She gives me scones.
Not to the woman going in for the procedure, you see. She gives me the scones.
Yeah, yeah. What does the woman need the scones for?
She doesn't know that there are scones. We're not going to tell her.
I keep them in this box vertically. So we go back to SVU.
I don't think it's going to work out with this guy, Aviv. No, because he sucks. I don't see good things happening between them.
But we go back to SVU, and Finn, I guess, has been reading to... Or one of them has been reading to Gabriela, and he's like, I learned green eggs and ham in Spanish. No me gusto los huevos verde.
Okay, also.
What about the ham? Right.
The jamon.
Hon jamon.
What the fuck is this? How is it that this child is now like a ward of SVU?
It's a village.
Right, but I don't think that's how that shit works.
Well, they just got off the horn with Maria, Gabrielle's mother, and her lawyer's like, this is going to happen never. So I think that they are waiting for the office of... the office of.
Refugee resettlement or whatever.
Refugee resettlement. And the only reason that they don't immediately... So this guy shows up. The only reason that they don't immediately give her to this guy is because Gabrielle recognizes him.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah, so his name is Phelps. He walks in. His name is Phelps, and he definitely has a lamp made of human skin in his apartment.
And they're like, okay, so Liv looks over the paperwork.
It's all in order.
They call for Gabriella, who comes out of somewhere, the office or interrogation room or something like that, sees the guy from refugee resettlement, starts immediately crying.
Loses it.
Yeah, it's like, don't send me away with that guy. I don't want to go, I don't want to get taken again. And they're like, what do you mean? She's like, that's the fucking guy at the border that took me from my fucking mom.
So I got a really fucking bad vibe from this guy. I'm sure not alone. But I just looked at his IMDb. His real person name is Andy Powers. And you might recognize him as the clown from the movie Clown.
I haven't caught that one, so sure.
A loving father finds a clown suit for his son's birthday party only to realize that it's cursed.
Oh, good. Boy, the hijinks ensue.
Yeah. Produced by Eli Roth, directed by John Watts, the Spider-Man guy. Huh. Interesting.
Eli Roth, you say, so I'll steer clear of it. Yeah.
Whoops. Imagine this guy just looking the exact same, but in clown makeup.
I don't want to go to there, so no. I will not be doing that, Aviv. Thank you very much.
Thanks, but no thanks.
Leave me alone.
Andy Powers. So, yeah, Gabriella freaks out. She's like, that's the guy that stole me from Texas. And so Olivia's like, I'm not going to let you take her to a child's concentration camp. He's like, not a concentration camp, a summer camp. It's a dorm-like setting with other minors.
In cages. Kids in cages. What's the problem?
I don't understand.
No, I don't hear it when I say it. No.
No. And so Lydia fucking arrests him.
And he's just like, are you serious? Are you serious, Clark?
Like, really?
You think this is going to fucking work?
Well, it works for a little bit. And like you said, it's very silly. But the flagrancy with which people are breaking the law these days, like the federal government is breaking the law all the time, it's kind of nice to see someone pushing back on that a little bit.
Right, but here's the problem, is because today and then, it's the same but different, because it's fucking worse now. And we live here in the future, where back then was when we actually had the opportunity to keep it from getting to the point where it's as bad as it is now. So then is when we had, like, some variety of hope.
Yes, correct. And this is a real, like, oh, Captain, my Captain moment. Olivia's like, I'm going to fucking do what's right and arrest you. And Stone's like, you absolutely cannot do this.
And Liv's like, oh, yeah?
Why not?
I stole a baby. I almost stole Gabriella just for you.
Yeah, Rollins got dibs on Gabriella, and I'm pissed at that.
I really wanted this to almost turn into that Chappelle show sketch with Wayne Brady where it's like, you better smoke this or we're going to have a problem.
Yeah, that's what that's from in Not Training Day.
Well, right. It's a funnier version of that. I want Liv to close the door behind Stone. Do you know how many people I'm actively covering up the murders for?
She kind of does that.
Not really. She's just like, where? Didn't you say that we always have to lose?
Yeah, I mean, kind of, yeah. So we come back from commercial, and Olivia's holding a press conference from inside SVU. That's probably not right.
No.
But we have another, the same thing as last week's episode, where we have this, like, sort of orbiting shot, and everyone's frozen until the camera, like, hits its number two position, and then they start moving. I'm like, guys... You were a regular guy. You know how to enter a space. Apparently not.
Not great camera work going on here.
Well, it's like the blocking. But anyway, one of the reporters asks, how do you expect the federal government to react? And she's basically like, I don't give a fuck.
She's like, that's the federal government. I'm here in New York.
And this is, I think, actually a good point where one of them's like, how does this affect everyday New Yorkers? And Olivia's like, well, we did find her in like a sex slave dungeon situation. So, you know, there is a ripple effect.
Also, pay no mind to that portion of the show, because that's not what we're here to talk about.
We got the guy, or we didn't. Who can say?
He's in jail. He's out of jail. I don't know.
Honestly, I forgot to check.
He's producing a record. I don't really understand what's happening with him.
He's on tour with Kesha.
Against Kesha's will.
So, yeah. So Stone pulls Olivia into her office or vice versa, and he's like, you're just doing this to make a point. She's like, you're goddamn right I'm doing this to make a point. And if you won't prosecute them, if you won't prosecute this Phelps guy, I'll find a DA that will.
What the fuck does that mean?
I mean, I'm glad you're on the right side of history for once, but don't say that.
Yeah, and then she immediately walks it back. She's like, I mean, oh, fuck.
Oh, fuck.
And then someone from the DOJ shows up, and it's like, what the fuck are you doing?
Here's a subpoena.
Here's a writ of habeas corpus. Let that fucking guy out. I'll see you at, like, 12 for.
A fucking motion. I want Olivia to wipe her ass with that writ.
Just light it on fire in front of her. So this is where she turns to her. She's like, are you in or are you out?
And so Stone's in and they go to talk to, he's like, she's like, let me show you what we're fighting for. And they go to talk to Gabriella, who's like in one of the rooms coloring. And she's like, look.
I drew a picture of Guatemala and it's me holding a soccer ball with mommy. Olay.
And so I'll say, I'll say one thing. Gabriella is a pretty good actor. Sure. Her, her real person, human name is Scarlett Lopez. But in this moment, Olivia comes through the door with an anonymous white man. We know that Gabriella doesn't know who Stone is because Olivia introduces Stone to Gabriella. And if I were her, I'd be pretty jumpy toward any white man who opens the door.
Yeah, because the last one that they brought in from the outside was literally the guy that ripped you away from your mother. So it is funny how she's just like, oh, okay.
You're cool, I guess. Hi, Mr.
Peter.
So she says that this is just one person, and then there are 3,000 other Gabriellas who have also been separated from their families. So I don't want to turn this into a game. I don't want to make you guess, but I looked it up. As of June 2026, the number of just minors that have been separated from their family and put into detention is 6,200.
Jesus.
Double the amount that it was in 2018.
And this is currently, at the moment.
At the moment, yeah.
Up to whatever the most recent.
Up to June. So I would have to imagine it's a little bit more than that now. But yeah, they haven't been letting a ton of them go.
Are any of these left over from the first time?
I mean, you would have to be under the age of 10 to still be a minor.
So eventually some of these kids aged out have been put into adult detention centers.
I would say most of them.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. They haven't been freed.
Very, very few of them have been freed.
They've just gone from the kiddie jails to the real ones. Got it. Okay. Right on.
And so they go to court and Stone is saying that, you know, yes, this is a stunt, but also like what they're doing is illegal. And Phelps' lawyer's like, yeah, but the government told him to do it, so when the government does it, it's not illegal, right? And Olivia's like, what the fuck is this shit?
And the judge is like, I mean, right on, but no. You gotta, this is, no. No, sorry, this is a matter of law, this sucks, but let the fucking guy go.
And she says that the legality of the orders is not relevant to him carrying it out in good faith. And I'm like, it kind of is, though. Like, you're supposed to refuse an illegal order, but sure.
Well, I mean, if something is making its way through the courts, if it's constitutional or not, like, you apply the law that's on the books as opposed to it.
I suppose so. By the way, you should. We should say that his charge was kidnapping and transferring across state lines. So it is a federal beef.
Yeah. But he is also a federal agent.
Yeah, so they're double fucked.
Yeah.
Anyway, meanwhile, back at SVU, Amanda's hanging out with Gabriela. And let me check my notes. Magical Guatemalan girl can smell the pregnancy. Uh-huh.
That's best we got.
You have little Nino in your belly. May I touch?
It's like, goddammit, how the fuck... Not only... She's magic, too. Like, goddammit, I really wanted this fucking baby.
The magic baby. So they have to let Phelps go, and Olivia's like, we lost the battle, maybe we'll win the war. Narrator voice.
They won't.
They won't. They didn't. And so Olivia walks back into SVU with Phelps, and she's like... Okay, Gabriella, you're going to have to go with him and be strong. Psych, I'm arresting him again.
On a different charge. I don't know.
I desperately, desperately wanted her to just turn around and arrest him again. We're going to do this dance forever, Phelps. I got all the time in the fucking world. You think I got a kid? I don't.
Oh, what's that?
Oh, shit. He's fine. He's fine. He's been a little shit. It's fine.
She's my babysitter. She's the full-time caregiver now. It's fine.
And instead, Olivia's like, you have to go with this guy, Phelps. You'll see your mother again, I promise. And Gabriella's like, when? She's like, I don't know, when you both die?
Probably never. This is, you know, don't hang on to this for too long, because, yeah, it's not going to happen.
And Gabriella basically begs Olivia, don't forget me. Narrate her voice. She will. Yeah. So, Phelps... cuts in as the as they're having their tearful goodbye phelps cuts in and is like it's time fuck you it's time you're going back to jail motherfucker you're arrested you're arrested for just being a dick yeah take that and felt and so phelps takes her and uh everyone's like looking real sad except for the extras in the scene who are pretending not to see nothing just fucking nothing.
They've got paperwork to file aviv.
I didn't see it. I don't fucking know. The G-man's here. My papers aren't in order. I'm not going to fucking step out of line.
The nail that sticks up gets hammered down, all right?
So Stone doesn't want to give up. So he goes to his army buddy? Gym buddy?
Unclear.
Token black friend?
He's back in Chicago.
Did he fly back to Chicago to have scotch with Carl Weathers?
That's what it sounds like.
Okay, Carl Weathers. You might recognize him from Rocky, Predator, Rocky 2, Rocky 3, Rocky 4, Happy Gilmore, The Mandalorian, Toy Story 4 as Combat Carl.
Arrested Development.
Arrested Development, Mortal Kombat as the voice of Jax. He's on Chicago Fire. He's in six... He's in... In the Chicago Universe, 19 episodes of the Chicago's as this character. Oh, okay. Mark Jeffries. All right. So he's a state's attorney, but I'll always know him as Duke Firestorm from the TV series Explosion Jones. And sadly, he passed away in 2024, too young to be sure. He was 74, 76 years old, but like he was the fucking best. and had did so many fucking things he fucking rules yeah and and he was also uh outspoken advocate in a group called actors and athletes against gang violence.
Oh okay i did not know that.
Um yeah paula creed the the greatest Um, and so he's like, you really got a stew going. Do you think this is going to make a difference? And. Okay.
So Stone comes back with this story of like him and his grandpa at the beach and like the tide was coming out or something like that. And there was a bunch of like hatchling turtles trying to make the water there. And Stone as the kid is like, oh my God, look at all these fucking things. They're going to die. They're not going to make it. And then the granddad goes up, disobeying all rules that you should have in situations like this, because it's nature.
Let them do this. You're not supposed to do this.
And he's like, not this one, and he picks one up and throws it in.
He was also a pitcher, just fucking fastballing.
Rockets them into the ocean.
Just a piss missile.
And so he's like, not this one.
No changeup, no curl, nothing but gas.
It's just a forcey fastball every time. Try to catch it.
Of turtles.
They all died on impact from hitting the water.
So anyway. Skip on the water like stones.
We're called the stones for a reason. Yeah, and so, like, it's... What a story. How about that? Again.
You're not supposed to do that. That's, like, not how you do that.
Yeah, you may have absolutely just destroyed that ecosystem, but that's okay. You know, we're not here to talk about that. We're here to... Get Gabriela out of this child's prison. And the mom.
Honestly, question mark?
And so the mom gets asylum... The same day, I guess, as this meeting.
So he's like... So I think we mentioned obliquely that Maria paid a coyote to come to America because in Guatemala her neighbor murdered someone and then they.
Her neighbor saw someone get murdered.
Saw someone get murdered and so the gang came out and shot him in the head in the street and Maria's like, I don't want to fucking deal with this shit. And so So Carl Weathers is like, hey, is this Maria ladies asylum claim like legit? Or or am I fighting a losing battle here? And then just like dot, dot, dot.
Now she's out.
Yeah, because I believe Stone's response is 50 50.
Yeah. But we have what like a like a really bizarre last minute around the horn where Finn Rollins and Carisi are talking about. you know, how fucked up it is what they're doing to Maria, and Finn's basically like, well, yeah, it's fucked up that they're doing it to Maria, and fucked up that they're doing it to Gabriella, but, like, everyone else is, like, in there is, like, should probably be in there, right? And both Rollins and Carisi are like, fucking what? Finn?
Yeah, and he's like, hey, man, we gotta, you know, we gotta take, they don't have jobs, blah, blah, blah, blah, and then they get the counterpoint where it's like, They actually.
Do have jobs.
Most of them, as it turns out, have jobs, pay taxes, or just try to live their lives.
And they also can't get Medicare, Medicaid. Guys, I know I'm a lefty and I say lefty political things. This is just a fact. If you don't like people coming into our country because you feel some ownership of this place, just say that. It doesn't make it right. But citing bullshit things like they take money and jobs is just patently untrue.
Right, and that's the thing, is the fact that they know they can't just have the party... They can't say what they actually want because they know that is racist.
We don't like the Browns.
Yeah, and again, it's like if we had to.
That's all they really want to say.
If we had to engage you... On what you actually felt as opposed to a stilted argument. This would, I mean, I don't really know how you argue with that other than just saying you're a racist.
But the crazy thing is that they just are making up, they're just making stuff up.
I understand that. Yeah, but again, trying to argue with someone about what they actually feel when what they feel is just hate, you can't really engage with that. So they try to synthesize down into bullshit facts, which you also can't engage with because they're not real.
They're not real. So, okay.
So you see the dilemma here as those of us on the left being like, well, how do we approach that? There's nothing... How do we.
Can't grasp it.
Okay, so the way we fix this is to solve racism, question mark? It's like, okay, well, if... Oh, that's what we've been doing wrong all this time. You see, we should, we've been focusing on not solving racism by debunking all of the racist claims. I don't understand.
It's weird. The Carisi is like straight down the line, correct about everything in this, in this moment. And he says, what about the statue of Liberty? It says, give me your tired reporter, huddle masses yearning to breathe free. And Finn says, quote, great poem, but it's all garbage. My ancestors were brought here 300 years ago. We're still yearning to breathe free. And I'm like, But they're enslaving the brown people now. Do you see that, Finn? Do you see that?
The chains are different now, but it's all.
But you're stumping for the wrong party here, buddy. Once again, just say you don't like Mexicans, or Guatemalans in this case.
Yeah. I mean, all of this is always not... It's never been about actual resources. It's about who is getting the resources.
Totally. Totally. Like, that's truly.
What it always has been. Because if all of this extra shit was only going to white people, there wouldn't be a problem.
No one would care. In fact, the only people that got protected refugee status this last year were white South Africans. Yeah. And we're all fine with that.
Exhausting.
So Rollins goes to visit her dumb doctor boyfriend, and she's like, hey, your office told me where you were. And he's like, they probably shouldn't have done that. She's like, I told him that I was a cop and that I had a warrant for you that you fuck kids, and so they told me where you were.
Also, why doesn't she... You guys have presumably been... She is carrying your child. I think she should know where you work. She knows you're a doctor, and you've never mentioned what doctor's office you work at?
Or hospital? Or, like, maybe it's just, like, what floor he was on or something. I don't fucking know. But she says.
Like, he's not James Bond. Like, I don't... You should be able to find him.
She says, I'm having this baby without you because I met an immigrant girl and she told me the real meaning of christmas i also.
I also don't want anything from you go fuck yourself.
Yeah this episode is a hundred hours long it's not over yet so olivia and uh and carl weathers and maria the mother go to the child detention center where gabrielle is being held and there's like a guard there that's like we're not allowing visitors to the for the children and so here we go give.
Me the stew He's like, listen up, you little fuck.
He gets out of the car.
Yeah, he gets out of the car. He's like, I didn't see my friends die face down in the muck.
I killed a predator, motherfucker. You think you scare me?
Go get your fucking boss right now.
And then he gives Olivia a wink. He's like, that was fun.
He's like, yeah, all right.
Still got it. I was in the Coast Guard. But then we see the dorm-like setting. And Jesus, holy Christ, it is a bleak and also much better than it is in reality.
Uh-huh. And that's woof.
So we got cages and we got like those like kind of elementary school mats sort of haphazard on the floor and the kids are all sort of like laying on them with like Mylar blankets and.
fucking it honestly looks more like it's a segmented like doggy daycare situation just with children.
In it but like and like not a great one.
No like a discount one that you you don't prefer but it is cheaper.
And they sort of yada yada the like how this happened because the supervising judge in Chicago is a gym buddy of Carl Weathers and so they fast-tracked the asylum and that's why this kid won't die in a child's concentration camp question mark?
Yeah, because the mom's got asylum now, so she can go and retrieve the kid. Meanwhile, the point of like, ah, she's trying to put her fingers, it's like, you know they're going to open the cage. You don't have to try to hug her through the cage. She's coming right out. And then all the other kids descend like Night of the Living Dead style to the chain link fence and are like, but what about us? What happens to us?
I'll see your Night of the Living Dead and also raise you that village in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. Yeah, yep.
And then Liv just takes a look around at all the kids just up against.
And is like, welcome to America.
Yeah, and is like, boy, aren't we just the best?
And that's our Dick Wolf.
And that's our Dick Wolf. This had like... Oh my God. This was like Return of the King level. Like, there's like nine endings to this episode.
Correct. So, okay. From Trivia Corner. The book that Rollins' daughter is looking at during the opening scene is called If the S in Moose Comes Loose, and it was written by Peter Herman, the hare, real life husband.
Oh, get out of here.
All right. Yeah. And this is, as you mentioned, the first use of the term asshole on SVU. Hey! Before, you could say ass with other variations, but never asshole, and Finn got the honors.
Good for Finn. Good for Ice-T.
This is the first Carl Weathers episode in the Dick Wolf-iverse since 2017, the series finale of Chicago Justice. Okay. And then Rollins, we sort of glossed over this a little bit, but when Rollins wants to adopt... gabriella she says like do you remember the last girl that that we let out of here and that is from the book of esther esther was the girl who in the like home cult who uh rollins.
Shot yeah right between her soulful.
Little eyes soulful little eyes okay uh we're we're dusting off a classic here keyword corner all right we.
Got gloves surgical gloves no no No.
Gloves at all. Police. Nine-year-old girl. Okay. Fourteen-year-old girl. Interesting. All right.
I'm sensing a weird theme, but a theme nonetheless.
Children's book.
Oh, okay.
Reference to Uber. Reference to Airbnb. Reference to Paris, France. Reference to Cincinnati, Ohio. Reference to McDonald's restaurant. And reference to Tom Cruise.
Ah, sure. Okay, all of those things did indeed happen in this week's episode. How random.
Okay, from the Goose department, Al, the doctor, stoops down to high-five Jesse, and then after a cut, stoops down again. I also, I'll double that, that Al picks up his wine glass twice in the wine scene, but that's not in there. And at 1737, the caption reads, House of the Wellbacks 199 Palisade Road, but when Carisi and Rollins are at the residence, the house number above the garage door is actually 84.
Boy, what shoddy television making.
This just reminds me of Hot Fuzz when they're complaining about the guy who gets the facts wrong in the newspaper. He's like, she said my wife was 55 when I'm actually 53. All right. I've really not wanted to do this, but from User Review Corner.
Oh, boy.
Here we go. So, okay. Typically, there are about five to seven reviews for me to pick from. Like, written reviews.
Oh, God. There has to be, what, 30 or 40?
58.
Woo!
So... People had some feelings.
Let me guess. All of them bad?
People had some feelings, many, many of them bad. So, first is from Horoni Emi from March 17th, 2025. One out of ten stars. Cringe and Order, Olivia Benson's cringe stories. And here we have another stinky Law & Order episode ruined by Olivia's deep breath. Olivia Deep Breath Benson and... her deep breath whispers, annoying whisper talk and political agendas.
This used to be a good TV show about solving actual special victims unit cases rather than what we have now is this TV show that looks like watching real fake news mixed with Olivia Benson's egotistical need to be on every scene and doing everyone's job herself with this goddamn annoying deep breath whispers talk. Yes, we get it.
It was nice. dramatic voice for certain situations but what the hell does she feel the need to talk like that throughout every scene and episode oh why the hell why the hell does she need to feel you talk like that throughout every scene and every episode one out of ten stars.
I mean the the whisper talking it is the signature thing and i'm not gonna lie i don't love it i don't love it so i agree with you on that one we're gonna read a.
Couple more this one is is a is a is a Is a peculiar one. This is from CamFam1 from September 15th, 2025. So just about a year ago. It is now 2025. There's no score. It is now 2025. A big change in how our government now tries to keep families together. Illegal immigration is on decline. Hopefully soon there will be a solution providing a fair policy for asylum seekers. As always, the acting is superb. The new ADA stone is great casting. Let's hope Amanda will finally solve her personal problems. What? I've never seen you be wrong about everything like that. I, uh.
You know, I really do hope that Rollins figures out her personal problems.
Me too. You know, she deserves that.
I guess.
I'm gonna read one other... I mean, there are so many fucking horrible ones that are like crying left-wing propaganda. Oh, I know.
I think that's all these review boards are anymore for this show.
Another product of left-wing Hollywood. Jesus. I'll read this one. This is crazy. This is from Tom2977 from October 9th, 2018, so right after the episode came out. Pure liberal propaganda. With no evidence, Hargitay backed Ford in the Kavanaugh smearing, whereas she's executive producer of SVU. It's not surprising her left-wing attitudes are written into the scripts. Spoiler alert. Many of the, quote, children separated from their, quote, parents are not related to them at all. Dude, what?
What are you talking about, sir?
My God. Someone else accuses this show of TDS. They don't care about children, immigrants, or anybody. Classic TDS. You know what TDS is, of course.
The Daily Show?
Trump Derangement Syndrome.
Oh, good lord.
Cry about this horrible, deplorable practice, but display complete indifference to the victims of it.
What exactly is Trump derangement syndrome? Is that he's deranged?
Blaming Trump? No, no. He thinks that any criticism of him is because people are obsessed with him and deranged.
So... I don't think I ever fully... So it's that if you call out anything that Trump does, you have Trump derangement syndrome?
Correct. Got it.
Okay. Oh, I'm all caught up.
Oh, good. And from the other side of the aisle, we'll finally do a top one here. If I can find it. Jesus. 1 out of 10 stars. 1 out of 10 stars. 1 out of 10 stars. 1 out of 10 stars. Okay, here we go. And lastly but not leastly, this is from Nathan F. from October 6th, 2018. 10 out of 10 stars. Not safe for work unless you want others to see you cry.
Very good episode. Very well put out. However, be prepared to get emotional as this episode is in relation to a current situation. That is only if you are watching close enough to the original air date. Oh, no. SVU writers and cast once again did a great job drawing you into the show and getting things pretty emotional. It actually led me to researching more about what's really going on.
Finding out the reality of what's going on makes me hope that this does the same for others. So you may want to do a bit of research on your own after you watch this episode. Get the Kleenex box close and Google ready after. LOL. Everyone please ignore some of these replies. This is not supposed to be reviews on the episode. Oh, sorry. This is supposed to be reviews on the episode. How well it was written and played out with no spoilers, not a place to post your comments on the current matter. They always consider their work wrong there to be fictional. They do a fantastic job almost always and definitely connecting current real life to episodes is a way to get more people involved in making sure things like what you see in the show
never happen in real life. This show means something and in a way possibly changes things in the world for the better. 10 out of 10 stars.
Yeah, no, it didn't. That didn't. I appreciate your naivete. It did happen, as it turns out. Got the wrong message there.

And Sarah Rich. Oh shit, Sarah Rich is in this episode.
