An absolute offensive explosion in an NFC North rivalry game. What Jordan Love was saying after the Packers dismantled Chicago Bears. Tick-tock clock management, a major issue in the NFC East. The spotlight is on Nick Sirianni and Dan Quinn. Sirianni owned it. We heard from Dan Quinn today. Hear his explanation on a situation that's hard to explain. And it's a potential Super Bowl preview with the last two league MVPs.
These guys could sling it. Our quarterback, though, tells you why a running back could hold the key to a Monday night football win. And welcome to a Monday edition of NFL Report. I'm Mike Yam. My good friend Cody Kessler is going to be with us in just a few minutes. We'll also hear from Kyle Shanahan on a perfect Niners squad. And of course, we will preview a Monday night matchup that should be epic right across the street from our studios at SoFi Stadium. But we start with the latest headlines. And it was sort of a precarious situation late in that game on Sunday Night Football between the Falcons and the Ravens. We watched Michael Penix unable to finish the matchup. Penix was sacked by linebacker
Tavius Robinson with 27 seconds left in that fourth with the score tied. He stayed down on the field briefly, walked off, though, under his own power. Then in overtime, we saw Tua getting his first reps. He threw an interception. But here's Penix after the game.
I think the biggest thing is just, you know, I want to be out there, you know, especially in a big moment in a game like that, you know, I'm like, I felt, I felt like, um, I just felt like I needed to be out there, you know, um, obviously, uh, we got trust in Tua, you know, whenever he came in, but, you know, for me, you know, just how I grew up, how I was raised, like, man, it was always, man, fight through it, fight through it, fight through it, and I was trying my best, um, But I knew I wasn't where I needed to be to help us win a football game in that moment.
Tough moment for that Falcons team that was surging. Meanwhile, a reunion in Houston. Marvin Harrison Jr. heading to the Texans to be paired with his college quarterback, C.J.
Stroud.
Now, we told you Friday on NFL Report the trade was going to happen. We just didn't know the destination or the compensation.
We do now.
Houston also gets a 2027 sixth-round pick. Cardinals get a 2027 second-rounder and a seventh-round selection as well. D'Amico Ryans, he's ready.
We're excited to add Marvin to our team. He's another, I think, really great playmaker. He's crushed a lot of college records, got multiple thousand yards, receiving seasons in college, All-American, always been a top receiver when he's been on the field. He has good rapport with CJ from their time at Ohio State, so we're excited to get him in and add another great player to our group.
Do you think familiarity with CJ will help him ease into your team easier? I hope so.
Damn right he does. Cody Kessler, our quarterback, is with us right now. Cody and I will be hanging in just a little bit here. We've got game day preview. We'll take a closer look at that Monday night matchup, not only in that show, Cody, but.
This one as well.
But you heard D'Amico Ryans. We'd love to get your take on this because you had so much success when you were at USC. There's a comfort level that I'm sure you have with some of those wide receivers. What's it going to take for Harrison to get back and live up to that status of being the fourth overall pick?
Yeah, it's just going to take that continuity with C.J. Stroud, but I love this move for Marvin Harrison Jr. After getting drafted fourth overall back in 2024, he actually has a solid rookie season at 62 catches, 885 yards receiving, and eight receiving touchdowns. But since then, he just hasn't quite turned into the wide receiver. A lot of people thought he was going to be in the NFL, and he's off to another slow start so far this season.
But sometimes when that happens, the best thing for a player is a change of scenery, especially when that change means being reunited once with your former college quarterback.
C.J. Stroud and Marvin Harrison Jr.
Back in 2021 and 2022 with Ohio State were virtually unstoppable. That familiarity is going to play a big factor in Harrison Jr. being able to come in and make an immediate impact. Also, opposing defenses are going to have a lot of focus on Nico Collins, so Marvin Harrison Jr. are going to get those one-on-one matchups, and C.J. Stroud knows exactly how to get him the football. I think this is the best-case scenario for Marvin Harrison Jr. Oh, and by the way, CJ Stroud is essentially on a contract year this season.
He's playing some good football. This could help him be even better.
Yeah, now he's got two favorite targets, the one in college and the one in the pros in Nico Collins. By the way, for what it's worth, Stroud did say that he had never been around a harder worker. So hopefully Harrison can sort of spark this offense to more wins. Of course, Houston get that first victory of the season.
on Sunday. Meanwhile, we head to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. We got to watch the Eagles and Jags give us an absolute show. How about Trevor Lawrence, though, to Parker Washington, who's playing out the final year of his rookie deal offseason. They offered him about $ 25 million. Guess what? That price tag is going up. Six catches, 124 yards, and two touchdowns. This, though, the play of the game.
Here we go.
Eagles were on top, did not kick it out of bounds. Amir Abdullah, a 53-yard kick return. That gives him a little bit of time. You see zeros on the clock there. In fact, when he got tackled, there was time. One second left. Cam Little from 57. He absolutely buries it after the game. Cam said it was the coolest moment of my career. He actually wore a Manchester United jersey at his post-game news conference. You can see that look says it all, and there's nothing better than a winning locker room.
Hey!
Hey! Mental toughness, man!
Mental toughness!
Guys, the snap, the hold, the kick!
Didn't have to be pretty but guys stay in the course win it guys doesn't matter one second left on the clock right one second left on the clock this team don't stop this team don't stop believing and i appreciate you guys i love you to death man.
Man that feels so much better right now i.
Didn't make the right decision and i lost this that game and that's what i said to our guys um and and what hurts there is that You know, the guys fought so hard, and then I don't make the decision that, you know, that I should make at the end of the game, and I cost us that game, and I put that fully on me.
To be fair, I'm just going to say this. Dallas, a couple weeks ago, kicked it against the Ravens. Out of that end zone, they lost that football game. I actually don't know what the right answer is. Meanwhile, Giants and Commanders, this a wild one. How about Jameis to Malik? Neighbors, 11 catches, 121 yards.
And a touchdown.
We're tied here in overtime at 27. This is a tough one. Cam Scadaboo coughs it up after the game. He said, I got to hold on to the ball and make sure these guys know what my name is called. Things are going to be OK. It wasn't in that situation. It looked like it was going to get worse here. Jaden Daniels, final play of the game. And I say that, and it shouldn't have been. You could see them run a play, 12 seconds left. They're at the Giants 24 at this point. Daniels held on to the ball. He goes down. Game over. An inability to go and kick a game-winning field goal in overtime. Dan Quinn, please explain to me what happened.
Like the sequencing of that does not fall on him. It's an outside throw or a clock. You know, those are the two, you know, out of bounds throw or a clock. And that has to come from me. I don't have to put him into that spot. I can do that earlier and we can finish the kick early. We don't need to gain more yards. So that's on me.
Was Jaden aware that there were no timeouts left?
I haven't spoken to him, but like I said, that falls on me and Nicky. He executes it of what we need to do. I don't need to put him in that space at all. This is how we got to go down.
We don't need to gain more.
Let's go win it right here.
What happened there in that last play? We all got to be better situationally. Football starts with me.
Everybody will say the same thing, but we just got to be better in situational football.
Did you hear anything or say anything in the huddle about, hey, we've got to get the clock stopped here?
Yeah, we've just got to be better. We've just got to be better.
Ugh, doesn't want to answer that question. Tough for Commanders fans out there. Got a Justin Jefferson homecoming, dealing with that ankle injury, did everything that he could to play in this game, and he made his presence felt. How about triple coverage?
Are you kidding me?
Justin Jefferson, not even open, but he is. 18's always open. Six catches, 79 yards, and a touchdown. He said a touchdown to celebrate and a victory. Couldn't have asked for anything more. You're right about that. Tyler Shuck, maybe his favorite wide receiver. He's not really a wide receiver.
He's Byron Murphy.
Two interceptions there. in the game for Murphy in this one. How about the Vikings? 5-0 now this season. A 10-game regular season winning streak. It feels good to go and win if you are a Vikings fan. Jordan Love, boy, been tough sledding for this Packers squad here. Last couple weeks, no running attack. Offenses struggled at times. Haven't seen a monster performance. That changed in this game. How about Love, the 42-yard touchdown pass to Christian Watson, who had six grabs in this game for 143 yards and two touchdowns.
Tyson Bajent Boy, oh boy, there were some serious struggles. They wasn't even able to finish out this game. Keith Keenum would have to come in for relief. Xavier McKinney, two picks in this game, both of those with Tyson Bajent in. More from Love, 25-31 passing, 367 yards. How about this bomb? Wow, that's a grab. Two touchdowns, both of them obviously going to Watson in this game. A remarkable offensive performance for the Packers considering offensively all the struggles.
And for whatever it's worth, that was a little icy. For whatever it's worth, they did get a rushing touchdown in this game, their first of the season. Here's Love.
Yeah, I think it's something that we saw throughout the game that was working, and we kept doing it. We kept our foot on the gas right there. And I think really just guys are making plays, you know, and it was going to be some contested plays. Nobody was just wide open. But I think guys are making some some great catches out there. Great plays. But I definitely I love it. We kept our foot on the gas.
Matt was dialing it up. And that's what it needs to look like right there.
Cody, we're doing game day preview on Sunday, and we were talking about this game candidly, me, you, and Nelson Aguilar. None of us thought that the Packers were going to win. There wasn't evidence for this so far this season. What stood out the most in this victory against the Bears?
Yeah, I was very impressed by the way that the Packers played yesterday. They dominated on both sides of the football. Defensively, they come out and they have four sacks. They force five turnovers. They hold the Bears to four of 14 on third down. But most importantly, Yam, they stopped the run. Going into this game, Chicago had the number one rushing offense in the entire NFL, averaging close to 200 yards per game. But the Packers held them to 81 yards rushing and never allowed them to get a rhythm on the offensive side of the ball. And then on the other side of the ball for the Packers, I would have loved to see them be more efficient in the run game. They still have to be two-dimensional, but at
this point, who cares if Jordan Love is going to play the way that he did yesterday? 80% completion percentage, 370 yards passing, and two passing touchdowns. He was great with his decision-making and showed yet again he is one of, if not the best, deep ball throwers in the NFL. Also, Christian Watson and Matthew Golden are proving to be one of the top wide receiver duos in the NFL as well.
This was very impressive from the Packers and should give them that much-needed confidence they need going forward.
Yeah, for what it's worth from a Chicago perspective, Caleb Williams on Friday was back at practice, obviously didn't play in this game. To me, that signals a potential return, hopefully sooner rather than later. But based off of those results for the Bears over the weekend against the Packers, he cannot get back onto the football field soon enough.
This was, it was kind of an entertaining, I shouldn't say kind of, it was an entertaining game, but not for the reasons that you would have thought of. A ton of turnovers in this one, but Niners and Seahawks here. How about Brock Purdy to Brandon Cooks? I kind of forgot that Cooks was on this team. I'm not going to lie to anyone about that. How about 13 seasons for the wide receiver and his first catch of this year is a touchdown for a minute to go here to third and 10. That never happens. I mean, that literally never happens with Sam Darnold and JSN. I mean, in his hands, not in his hands, and an incomplete.
That one was costly. Fourth and 10 here. Darnold to Cooper Cupp. Cupp's just got to make a play, and he does just that except. It's not a first down. I got to tell you the situational awareness from Cooper cup though, knowing that he's got to stretch out there. Tough deal. The game featured seven turnovers in this one. The defenses were absolute monsters.
Kyle Shanahan squad though, still a perfect five and oh.
The way the game went, I mean, emotions only build. I mean, there was all the turnovers in the game, all the back and forth, a lot of good things in the game, a lot of bad things. Like it was just a, I'm going against a good team like that in that environment. I mean, emotions only get higher and higher as it goes. And, It was a really tough win. By no means was everything perfect, but I just thought the grit of the guys in all three phases, just they never wavered. They stayed locked in, kept the focus, never freaked out once a bad thing happened and found a way to get it done at the end.
That they did. By the way, more on the Niners. and some injuries and a suspension still to come here on NFL Report. Meanwhile, Monday Night Football, we got Josh Allen and Matthew Stafford, a potential Super Bowl, I shouldn't say rematch, a Super Bowl preview. More on this game, by the way, coming up as soon as we are done.
Cody and I get to hang out. By the way, as soon as this show is done, Cody, I am like hustling to get to the studio to sit next to you. But it's kind of weird here, and you played this quarterback spot in the league, so you understand this. Stafford and Allen are the last two MVPs, but the reality is I don't know how great both of these guys are playing right now. Who do you have more confident in heading into tonight's game?
Yeah, I'm going with the reigning MVP, Matthew Stafford.
I know he's gotten off to a slow start so far this season, but he is still one of the most talented quarterbacks in the NFL, even at 38 years old.
He can make every throw on the field.
He's extremely accurate, and he's good at reading the defense and using his eyes to manipulate offense.
Defenders.
On top of that, he's going up against a Buffalo defense that has a depleted secondary and has really struggled this year against the pass.
C.J.
Stroud comes out and throws for 270 and two passing touchdowns. Jared Goff throws for 330 and four passing touchdowns. And last week, Drake May puts up another 270 yards passing and three more passing touchdowns. The Bills are going to struggle a bit tonight, I think, with their secondary, trying to stop Matthew Stafford, Puka Nakua, and Devontae Adams. And it's not that I don't trust Josh Allen in this game.
It's just he has a lot of factors working against him. Joshua Palmer's out. DJ Moore is dealing with a shoulder injury, and he's going up against one of the best secondaries in the NFL with the Rams. They're only giving up 144 yards per game through the air, so it should be a tough challenge, but I am excited. It's two of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. Should still be a great matchup.
Yeah, by the way, Allen, one passing touchdown, four turnovers over the last two weeks. Got to lock in on the road at SoFi Stadium. Who's the X factor in this game besides the quarterbacks? Who's that guy that potentially could lead their team?
Yeah, I'm going with Bill's running back, James Cook. Josh Allen gets a lot of praise, rightfully so. He's arguably the best player in the NFL, pound for pound. But James Cook, in my opinion, is equally as important to this Bill's offense as Josh Allen. Since he's been there in Buffalo, he has 5,900 total yards and 44 total touchdowns.
work so well together. That's what makes our offense so difficult to defend. They can attack you both in the pass game and in the run game. And like I just mentioned, the Bills have some injuries at receivers. They're playing a tough secondary with the Rams. They're going to need James Cook to be at his best tonight to take some of that pressure off of Josh Allen and that passing attack for the Bills.
Yeah, if there's anyone that can do it, James Cook can certainly be that guy for a little bit more on the Monday night matchup. Bottom of the hour right here on the NFL channel. It is game day preview. Cody and I will take a a microscope out and really examine this game. Raiders, Patriots, Drake May and this New England squad coming off that big win. Cody was just talking about it against the Buffalo Bills and kind of picking up right where he left off. May, this one, Mario Douglas all by himself. Four catches, 65 yards. Douglas, two touchdowns in this game. Keep in mind, doing this still without EJ Brown. More from May. Kyle Williams is one of my favorite wide receivers in the league. Watched
all of his games when he was at Washington State. The dude is a walking, or I should say running, explosive play. More from May in this one. Five total touchdowns in this one. Threw for 374. I'm going to.
Come in at every game and every week and attack it. And I'm confident in myself and my abilities and the guys around me. And part of it in the first touchdown to pop, I'm back there, you know, credit offensive line eating a ham sandwich. So I got all day back there.
And I think that's.
Things I'm working on back there, when I got time, just to sit in there and find somebody open. And I've credited those big guys and credited Coach McDaniels and the coaching staff for putting us in a good place to execute it.
And we did that today.
By the way, I just want to be clear about that stack because I know the May sound came in there. Back-to-back games, three passing touchdowns in each one of them. First New England quarterback. since 2018. It was the GOAT, Tom Brady, who was able to deliver some of those strikes. And I know you got a good relationship with Brady, too, in your time in New England, Cody. But explain this to me. One and two to start. All of a sudden, it's now two straight wins for this Patriots squad. Are you buying this team back into the contender category?
Yeah, I'm buying it because I was never out in the first place. Look, this is the NFL. It's really difficult to win, and it's a very long season.
It's inevitable.
At some point in time, you're going to struggle and face some adversity. But what's most important is how you respond to that adversity. And the Patriots have done a great job bouncing back these last two weeks. They go on the road and get a tough divisional win at Buffalo in.
Their new stadium.
And then yesterday, they come home against a Raider team that's been playing some good football this year, and they did a good job of dominating that football game.
And to me.
I think it's a good thing that the Patriots face adversity this early in the season because it allows them to identify where some of the issues are on their team. It also allows leaders to step up and bring these guys together. It's a lot better to figure that out early on in the season rather than towards the end of the season when it's too late. They have a physical top five defense right now, only giving up 18 points per game. And Drake May has reminded everybody why he was second last year and MVP voting. I am still all in on the Patriots. I was never out in the first place. I really think that they are legit AFC Super Bowl contenders this year.
Yeah, Cody, a little bit more on this Patriots team and some of these injuries still to come here on NFL Report. And by the way, not great news from a New England perspective. Last year, relatively healthy. This year, though, there's a ton of injuries. So we got those details, once again, coming up in just a few minutes. Sunday Night Football. Ravens, Falcons, Tyler Huntley. No, not Lamar Jackson. Yeah, Snoop getting it done. 40 seconds remaining. How about that strike?
Novantes Walker with the touchdown. So we get an opportunity in overtime. Tied at 23. And it's Snoop getting it done. Jesse Minter after the game said there's not another locker room in the NFL that's got more confidence in their backup quarterback than we have in Snoop. Yeah, Lamar was fired up in this one. And then we gave you the news about Michael Penix dealing with that rib injury.
So we saw Tua get his first action in the regular season for the Falcons to Kyle Hamilton, who, by the way, grew up in Atlanta. He said he probably knew about 500 people in the stadium at that point. It was pretty special to get that INT. And it's the Ravens improving now to 4-1 on the season. All right, Colts, Steelers, there's a four-time NFL MVP who, by the way, was good, but it was his running back that really delivered. Jalen Warren, I mean, just a ton of explosive plays. How about this one for an 80-yard touchdown? He wasn't done. Had a 50-yard touchdown run as well. Warren, the first player in Steelers history with a 50-yard rushing touchdown, an 80-yard receiving touchdown in the same game, and the first in
the NFL to do so since Herschel Walker, the Cowboys, back in 1986. Point is, I was five. That's a really long time ago, and Steelers fans don't care about my age. They care about wins. And that's another one. Trying to find a little more consistency on the offensive side. Good for that team to get back into the win column.
Cincinnati and Miami. Joe Cool just delivering strikes all over the football field. Tanner Hudson. Yeah, nearly going. You could just tack on. Burrow, $ 1.
90.
So not creepy. putting, yes, that's good. You could do some of that down in the state of Florida as well. A little golf burrow, 190 passing yards, four touchdowns in this game. You know, Jamar Chase, we didn't even know if he was going to be able to play in concussion protocol. Dude's back out there. The one-two punch. Between Burrow and Chase, I mean, it's as good as any in the NFL. We saw the body control the other day.
How about just the hands of this dude? By the way, shout out to Jordan Battle. Two picks in the second quarter on Malik Willis. Got to love up some of the defensive guys as well, who I don't think get nearly enough credit sometimes. All right, football fans, got you something special here. NFL Plus Premium. Oh, we just showed you that chase grab. My God, it's so good. All right, you get NFL Red Zone. You can watch every touchdown every Sunday afternoon during the regular season. That's what I do.

All right, let's get you caught up on the Texans and Titans. They entered the week two of the five teams without a win. That changed because C.J. Stroud and company, they picked up the victory. Stroud using his legs this time.
He also threw for 261 in this one. Also had a passing touchdown. Jalen Noel. Team's already up 19-3. You could tack on a couple more. By the way, one of our top stories today was that Marvin Harrison deal. And we mentioned the reunion with C.J. Stroud, his college quarterback Stroud, after the game. I think it's perfect for him.
I think fresh starts are good. And I'm hoping he's just talking about the wide receiver and not him, because obviously there's a quarterback that doesn't have a new contract that was looking for one. Just saying. I don't want to put that out there. Texans fans are like, please stop. Speaking of the Texans, some quick hits for you. Running back David Montgomery, the groin injury week to week. Dude has been struggling. Had those three touchdowns in week one.
Hasn't scored since. Adam Schefter, this is not a great list for the San Francisco 49ers. By the way, this team is still perfect, but the latest injury is Debo Samuel. Hammy for him. You saw him get banged up in the matchup against the Seattle Seahawks. Going to be out at least a couple weeks. More bad news from a Niners perspective. No, not an injury, a suspension. Earlier in the show, Kyle Shanahan mentioned it was an emotional and there was some bad. This is probably what he's referring to.
Dre Greenlaw thrown out of the game for headbunting. Ernest Jones on the sideline. Not only did he not get to play the rest of this game, but the league suspending him for one matchup. Niners, they get commanders on Monday night. Greenlaw, by the way, does have the ability to appeal that. Not sure if he will. Carson Swessinger.
How about this from Ian Rappaport? Grade one ankle sprain in that loss to the Jets. That was definitely an issue there. Not ruled out for this week. Availability, though, depends on how he responds. Will Campbell.
Ouch.
Rappaport also putting this out on social media. Potentially suffering a knee sprain. He's going to undergo an MRI today to confirm that diagnosis. The Patriots snake bit by injuries, man. 19 players on injured reserve this year. Already surpassed their total from all of last season with 17. Javon Hargrave, test confirmed in the Green Bay Packers defensive tackle, suffered a season-ending torn Achilles. So the good news was the win.
The bad news, they lose out on one of their better defensive players. Adam Schefter putting this out. Will Shipley, partial tear of the planter fascia. This team, Saquon, you can see it there. Tank Bigsby, these guys are already banged up. That is a massive issue. All right, I got to get going because we got game day preview.
Cody's up in the studio. He's waiting for me. Monday Night Football preview.
We got you.
