Good morning, sweet world, and welcome to the No Dunks NBA podcast. It's Wednesday, October 28th, 2026. I'm J.E. Skeets, here in the Classic Factory and alongside me, as always, Tass Mellis.

Podcast listeners, this is for you.

Next to him, it's my top shot hot boy, Trey Kirby.

Ayo. Ayo.

And over yonder, right over there, making the magic happen, super producer, J.D.

Hello.

There he is. Here we are on today's show. We're going to dive into the NBA Stock Market Watch Podcast. Who we're buying, who we're holding, who we're selling. We'll take a look at our portfolios. We're also going to touch on last night's games. And unfortunately, there's a million injuries to address. But good news first here on No Dunks.

We had another wedgie. And it was Paul George in Boston, in the corner. He thought he got fouled. At first I thought he got blocked, but no, it's all PG. I stick there on the corner three-point attempt. Paul George's sixth career wedgie. He's tied for second all-time with LeBron James. So Westbrook seven, LeBron and Paul George six in their careers.

A couple guys with five. So exciting to watch that as, you know, gets into the tail end of his NBA career.

Super exciting. This was a sad moment for me, though. My stepbrother was in attendance in Boston. I saw the wedgie with my own eyes happen.

Yeah.

Get ready to text them. Phone died.

His phone died? My phone died. When's the last time your phone died? Straight battery zero percenter. Yeah, I was texting up a store. Holy man. That is rare. To send it off.

Could I have charged it?

Yeah, I could have.

I was locked in on texting with Big Nick. Unfortunately, the wedgie happens. I couldn't send anything, but I finally checked it last night about midnight.

PG wedgie. Okay, good.

Text from Stepbro. Exciting times.

Oh, okay.

Hopefully. Who was in attendance?

Nick?

No, Dan.

Dan. Hopefully yelled wedgie.

I hope he did. I hope he did. I did see he bought like a glass shoe. It looks like a Chuck Taylor filled with beer last night, filled with coffee this morning.

Oh wow!

Back to back jacks.

Can you put hot liquid in that thing? Are we sure?

Hold on, let me check and see.

Oh no, my hands have been.

Shredded with glass shrapnel.

Those things are selling like crazy, because when they show the Celtics crowd, you can see like eight different people with them, usually like around their neck, because they're almost like a lace or something like that. But yeah, they're usually empty, but you see the cup, I guess, that is a shoe.

Drinking right out of the shoe. Yeah, our friend chief also sent a photo of one of his Of course he did. Of course he did.

Hey chief, I wouldn't mind one of those on set here. Maybe you could send us one.

Oh, yeah, we could probably make that happen.

You don't need to send the beer in it.

He loves sending stuff.

He does, yeah.

Hey, that's literally the old bean shoe. The Beantown Boys shoe. That thing with some baked beans. That's a good pick-em, actually.

That's a great pick-em payoff.

The old bean shoe. It's actually in action now. Now we got to get one. Chief, get on it, buddy.

Yeah, please, Chief.

Please get in touch.

Come through. I wonder, what do you think those cost? $ 18. Yeah, it's such a commemorative cup.

Are they glass? No, I think they're plastic. Yeah, I assume. Okay. Yeah, then 18, 20.

Oh, the chief's watching. He says the shoes are pretty thick plastic, and I think they could handle coffee. We'll put the sneaker in the mail this afternoon.

He's already sending it. He's already shipping it.

25 bucks. 25 bucks for the shoe.

Okay, that's accurate. Okay.

All right.

Shipping will be more. We'll pay for it, chief.

Yeah, that's on us, chief. Thank you so much. Okay, let's get to the injuries. We really should have paid. for that Etsy witch doctor. But you said it was cheap, wasn't it? We should have done it.

$ 250.

You're saying $ 250?

$ 250. Well, I guess it's competitive, so the prices are low.

I don't know.

Well, we could buy one for each player in the NBA, basically, at that cost.

Or at least each team.

So news broke last night that Wolves star Anthony Edwards will undergo an arthroscopic procedure on his ailing right knee that's going to sideline him for up to two months here, Tess. Now, this is the same leg, the same knee that he dealt with the runner's knee last season. Again, I don't know if they're actually one and the same here, like the runner's knee had to do with this. From what I've seen from the doctors online, it's not maybe the case, but what a deflating alert to get last night that Ant's out here for months.

Absolutely. Very, very hard to see that. Anthony Edwards, one of the best players so far early in the season, is going to be out for multiple months here. That being said, if you look at it, zooming out, the Minnesota Timberwolves will have from Christmas on or at least New Year's on with Anthony Edwards in tow. And so they can make a full charge into the playoffs or play in picture at the very worst if they're that bad with Anthony Edwards in For a few months. I think when we look back on the season, we'll say, oh, Anthony Edwards played around 50 games. And that would mean that they have a real chance at being good. That being said, the fact that they don't have him for the whole season after playing so well to actually get

acclimated with one another. Yeah, it totally stinks. This guy will come back hard. If you want to look at it, a glass half full, because he always does. Through his first five years of the season, or five years of his career, I should say, he missed an average of just four games. Then last year was the year that he had that runner's knee. It seemed like doctors said, okay, if we take off a couple months in the offseason, maybe it gets better. that didn't happen. He came and played through it on Monday when he was questionable on Monday.

And he took the floor and he scored 47 points because he's that good. But then he had an MRI after according to John Krasinski. And they said, okay, the only way we're going to heal this is for you to sit out. And then you got to get surgery on Thursday. So it's coming tomorrow. I love this terminology of up to two months. You don't really see that quite often of up to two months. Usually it's a four to six or six to eight. So Maybe it could be a little shorter after the doctor goes in there, scopes it out, and sees what he has to remove.

The questions are, will he be back for Christmas, the first home Christmas game for Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves ever? That would be great for him, him against OKC. And the other question is, who subs in for him to come back? It's Io probably as the starter, as he did in the playoffs when Anthony Edwards was out.

You're going to get more of Melo-Charlotte version where he shot more. And good for them that they had TJ Shannon play really, really well so far. So more of him and more Jane McDaniels. So it stinks. They're not going to be the number one seed, that's for sure. But I do still think they've got a sixth seed in them at the very worst. That's possible. And again, the up to two months, that's strange to me. I know John Krasinski is saying, it's two months, at least two months, while Shams with an up to two months.

You never know. You never know with this guy and the way he fights back.

That's the thing that sucks.

It is long.

Because you just said, like, he went for 47. You know, in a loss, in an overtime game, played a lot of minutes. But, yeah, I guess he picked this injury up maybe in the Miami game and was sort of, you know, fighting through it a little bit here.

They made it seem like it lingered through the entire offseason. And they tried to just say, hey, put the legs up and we'll see if you'll be back.

Mm-hmm.

And yeah, it literally came back early in the season. Yeah.

I mean, it just sucks. The Timberwolves have been one of the most fun teams to watch to start the season. They look even better than expected, more fun than expected. And Ant came out hot, even though he didn't have the same explosion.

That he did.

I thought it was also interesting to read John Krasinski's piece. He confirmed like, yeah, I put on a ton of weight during the summer. I told you guys that as well. I knew he just didn't look right. Things looked weird. So it was also weird then when Chris Finch comes out and says, it's a daily situation. I don't think there's any long-term concern. I guess this is maybe medium term concern. Cause like you're saying, they don't really have a timeline for his return. They're going to do the surgery.

And then as he recovers, then he gets a timeline, but I'm kind of with you. I think if there's one place that maybe the Timberwolves can deal with an absence, it is on the wing. LaMelo, we know, can be an offensive engine. He's just going to have to up his usage a little bit. Like you mentioned, he hasn't been taking as many shots. He's going to take a lot of shots now. Io is a starter quality player, and Terrence Shannon Jr. has played well. The way the Timberwolves are pitching this is basically, let's get this done now so Ant can— heal up, get better, and ramp up in time for the playoffs. But he was hurt during last season. He was hurt during last playoffs. He took the summer off. Now he's having surgery. This is

something he's going to have to manage going forward. The days of him playing 80 games in a season, missing four games in a season, I think those are long gone.

Fortunately, probably true. Yeah, it's possible. No one wants to start going, oh, no, like we're going to go down an Embiid sort of path here or a Kawhi Leonard path.

Dwayne Wade, I would say.

Dwayne Wade, sure, yeah. We don't want to think that, but in all reality, that's probably the case.

I would say the only, I'm not the doc here, but the difference between like a Dwayne Wade is they chop the meniscus. Here, it's different in that they're going to scope it. They don't know what's going on in there, but they did see it in the MRI. That something needs to be done. So it's not a, hey, we need to chop this. We literally need an incision. So that part is different. It is the runner's knee that needs to be cleaned out.

The athletics, John Krasinski, to go back to him, he did write last night, Ant may have been able to play through this pain all season and then address it next summer, right, in 27. But yeah, the decision here is let's do it now and try and get then a fully healthy team. that i think they're probably looking at the western conference going well we might be positioned okay to make a real deep run they've made the conference finals they get all that but like with this squad and what's going on in the west with other injuries to teams i think that's a part of the equation here like yeah get it done now and then we'll uh hopefully have them for the 50 games and a healthy postseason run but still sucks. Now he's going

to miss these next two months here, probably. That's going to prevent him from making the 65 game threshold for MVP, all NBA honors. So that'll be the second year in a row that he's going to come up short for that. That's just a bummer. And you'd have to imagine now that Ant's streak of four straight all-star selections is probably gone poof too here, missing the first half of the season.

when you play for an all-star spot. Just a bummer, too.

Yeah, true.

But he'll get a lot of votes. He could still literally get voted in as a starter.

I guess, yeah.

Yeah, I mean, back in the old days when it was just straight fans, then yes, I'd be with you, but now I think there's some guardrails in place from obviously the media and maybe the players, too. So I think it's unlikely. Obviously, this doesn't really matter, but the guy was going to be cranking out 10, 12, 13 straight all-star selections probably if healthy.

And it does affect his... Because he won't make the all-NBA team, and that could affect his super max. But on the other side, the Wolves front office says, OK, can't pay you as much. We'll sign you to that extension, but we literally can't pay you as much. The raise won't be there. So, you know, it's both sides. Either way, he's going to get paid a full max when he comes back.

The injuries keep coming. Utah Jazz big man Jaron Jackson Jr. has sustained a torn MCL in his right knee. He's going to be sidelined for six to eight weeks. So he injured this on Monday night when Grizzlies guard Ty Jerome sort of fell into him, caused his knee to buckle there. TK, and now we have the diagnosis and he's out here for, you know, Up to two months, six to eight weeks, if you want to look at it that way with the torn MCL. What do you think?

Well, some coaches lie like Chris Finch, and some tell the truth. Like Will Hardy, who went up to Thomas Isolo and said, I think Jaron Jackson Jr. told her something. Don't know about Lowry. Markanen, it appears, avoided the worst. They said it's just a sprained wrist. He's day-to-day. So that's good news for the Jazz, but this is bad news for the Jazz losing Jaron Jackson Jr. They're already down Yusuf Nurkic, and now they're losing their other good defensive player, in Triple J. They're 24th in defense to start the season. We knew that was going to be a concern going into the year, and it has played out exactly as the people anticipated, and now they're losing their best backline guys. So tough for the Grizzlies, or sorry,

for the Jazz for sure. They traded for Jaron Jackson Jr. last year, never got him on the court this year, just a couple of games, and now he's down until, I guess, probably 27th.

It does stink. I think hopes for the play-in for Utah Jazz remain because he's going to go out. Yusuf Nurkic should be coming back soon. It could be a week. We're at about three weeks of the four-week diagnosis for him. And so he's replaced. And the guy who replaced Yusuf Nurkic in the first place where they kind of sized up was Ace Bailey going into the starting lineup. So we're going to see more of that with Jaron Jackson Jr. out.

We wanted to get Yusuf Nurkic. Jaron Jackson Jr. and Larry Markkinen as their back line. They're 3-4-5 to play along with the kids, with Darren Peterson and Keontae George and see what they were. Instead, in comes Ace Bailey and you can't replace Jaron Jackson Jr. defensively. You cannot. That being said, even though their defense is bad, Ace Bailey has been a really good rebounder. They are fourth in the defensive rebounding category. They're the fourth best defensive rebounding team. So, him plus Mo Bamba have helped out in that So we don't get the full jazz experience here, but I still think they can be a playing team.

I don't think they're that bad considering Ace Bailey is now your sixth man who has to be your fifth man inserted.

It's not bad.

It's not great.

No, it's not great. They're down three starters right now. Yeah, I was going to say, this sucks by itself. And then you said Larry Markkinen is out with a sprained wrist. Nerkic is out with the bum toe.

Should we come back?

You know, you're looking at, he played well the other night, but like, okay, oh my God, Mo Bamba time here even more. And Jackson Hayes, I think he might be injured too. He's one of their sort of backup bigs. You know, that doesn't give you a lot of confidence for a team that like right now can't stop teams either.

So.

This sucks. This is a really bad one. You're right. Maybe there's some still hope. It's so early that they could maybe make a play-in, but whatever percentage you had that at, you've got to drop it by 10%, 15%, with Jaron Jackson missing at least a couple months here.

A little bit. But, yeah, I think Ace Bailey has helped fill that role in. You throw in a Mo Bamba. You know that this offense is still going to be good either way with Jaron Jackson Jr. in or out. So they're going to just play tough. 130 games, 130 on each side. And Larry Markkinen has to come back, and that would help. And hopefully he does. Yeah, he is day-to-day. So him and the toe of Yusuf Nurkic are what the season is kind of hanging on. I mean, they can't beat down Jaron Jackson Jr. and Yusuf Nurkic.

He needs to come back.

Finally, in the injury department, the Raptors say Kawhi Leonard will undergo a treatment and rehabilitation program to address swelling in his left knee. So he's going to be reevaluated in one week. That's sort of what the team is saying. I think Shams is saying multiple weeks here. Anyway, the timeline means Kawhi is out for Toronto's matchup early next week against the Clippers in the Intuit Dome. So he will not be playing in that game. We know that.

He also released a statement. Trey, you want to give your best Kawhi impersonation to read this very brief statement from Kawhi himself.

Yeah, it's always frustrating missing time. I came back to compete with this team, and I'm focused on getting back to 100. Toronto, I've appreciated the love since I've been back. Returning soon.

Godspeed. Why? There it is.

Kawhi Leonard, very similar to your Nate Duncan.

Well, kind of similar now that I think about it.

Funny to see a statement starting with yeah. That's just very weird to me.

But. I mean, funny to see a statement from Kawhi Leonard, period.

Yeah, it is.

This is a new Kawhi.

It is a new Kawhi.

He took some hits this summer, obviously, and got new representation. They said, you need to be out there more. You need to have a personality. That's why we saw clips from him this summer. You never saw Kawhi Leonard playing with kids during the summer. You never saw him release a statement, despite the fact that he misses time every single season.

I wonder if this statement is only either he's forced to do it or it's out because of the Clippers game situation. that part right that gets like what oh he's gonna miss that game the only time Toronto goes to the Intuit Dome oh right oh that's where my mind went with this like if this is happening I don't know later in the season and it is only a couple weeks like this isn't this isn't I'm knocking on wood here this is not a Jaron Jackson Jr.

or an ant where it's gonna be months like there's no the MRI revealed no acute injury this is just sort of a classic Kawhi rest and rehabilitation yeah the swelling gonna go down but The statement part is odd.

It's different for Kawhi, but sitting out games isn't different. We knew this was coming. We all knew that this was coming at some point, and it is just swelling, and the doctors know what they're doing. You have to sit. You have no choice. You can't be fighting through it. Even after game one of the season when he played, he was asked, why haven't you, or I shouldn't say why.

It was more like, when are you going to get back to that guy last year when you were kicking ass? And he said, quote, Whenever the medical thinks I could push forward and I'm feeling great, whatever numbers they're looking at, that's when that time will come. Sorry, I don't have a good quiet right now. But basically he's saying the doctors know. They all know he's got to sit like he sat when they won the championship. So that's one of the reasons why he came here. Here. It's like we're in Toronto because I'm siding with Toronto. But that's one reason why he went to Toronto, to be with Alex McKechnie, who heads– the player health and performance there to be with back with him. So, you know, long-term

we all expected this. It's going to be out a couple of weeks.

I didn't expect it in late October. He's played.

Well, that's what he did last season.

Healthy.

Yeah.

But you know, but last year he did sit out early and started to come on later in the season, man.

That's true. We expected it. You're not wrong about that. I didn't make fun of that, but It wasn't as extreme as Trey sort of noticing Anthony Edwards and you were picking that up like, oh, he seems to have lost a little explosiveness there. What's going on with the leg and the knee? But Kawhi has not looked like Kawhi of last year.

No.

Through the first couple of games, even really in the preseason all that much. So, you know, that makes a little bit more sense if this was limiting him a little bit.

But not great. Last year he played six games and then sat out three weeks and then had one of his best seasons in a long time.

It's true. So.

Yeah. They're not ready to let him go. They're not ready to let full throttle Kawhi go quite yet.

Are you concerned as a Raps fan?

I was concerned when they extended him. Here we go, Kawhi, until he's 50, it felt like. You know, yeah, of course.

Right.

You have to be. You always have to be holding your breath with Kawhi. But I don't think this is weird or anything. This is just it, man. This is the package you wanted. He came out, you're right, Trey, that he did do better press preseason. Like he was I love being here. He talked more than he's ever talked. So.

That's a new part of the package, and this is the old part of the package that Toronto is seeing.

That was the upgrade. That's what they upgraded. The personality that cranked up the slider a little bit. Unfortunately, you can't do anything about the injury slide. The knees are the knees. So notable players currently out with injuries suffered this season. Anthony Edwards, the knee. J-Dub, Jalen Williams with his leg, the ankle, the fibula. Paolo Bancaro, ankle. Kawhi Leonard, his knee. Jalen Duren, his hamstring. Jaron Jackson Jr., his knee.

Kaysen Wallace, that's a shoulder. Jalen Suggs, knee. Evita Zubats, ankle. These are some big names here. These all happened in a week and change here of the NBA season. A bunch of other guys haven't even played yet. Number one pick, A.J. DeBanta, ankle. Rookie of the year runner-up, Conn Knipple, hamstring. His teammate, Kobe White, calf. Tobias Harris, calf. Nick Claxton, hamstring. Mark Williams, shoulder.

Yusuf Nurkic, as we talked about, big toe. Or one of the toes. Maybe it wasn't the big one.

I think it's the second toe.

Just to name a few. Hold on. Just to name a lot.

That was a lot.

Immediately when this happens, people go, well, what's the reason? What's the reason? You have a nice blazer on here today. Maybe in part because of the stock market watch coming up. But Dr. Kirby, I mean... Do you have a theory on what the hell's going on here?

I actually do.

Okay. Yeah.

Nate Duncan tweeted as soon as the season started, we're coming into the year with 48 of my top 50 players healthy. What a incredible preseason for health. I think it's on him.

It's on Nate.

Uh, curse tweet. We're down to like 25 of his top 50 healthy. I think at this point. Damn.

He's got Tobias Harris.

But also nobody really plays in the preseason. Maybe that's part of it.

I think that is honestly, there's something there. Um, These guys take it easy. Okay, it's all linked together, right? It's a long season. The game itself seems more demanding from a possession standpoint, physicality, the athleticism, all that, just the wear and tear on the bodies. But yeah, they save themselves in these camps and these preseasons, and your body generally needs to ramp up a little bit. Maybe you're just thrown into NBA basketball, the 30, 35 minutes, and it's a little too much. Especially when we look at the knees and all that. Now, some of these are guys crashing into legs.

Actually, a lot of these, I think, are pretty freakish. Like Jalen Williams, obviously, but Zubats landed on a foot. Paolo Bancaro landed on a foot. Somebody rolled into Jaron Jackson's ankle. Marketing got caught in between two guys. You can't avoid that.

But the part where, like, I've seen people say it's like a marathon runner deciding that running the first couple miles of the marathon is just the warm-up, the stretching part. I get that sort of metaphor, but to me it's more like somebody showing up to run 800 meters or a 1,500-meter track. That's a sprint. And they're considering they're stretching, just walking from the tunnel to the starting line, and then you're boom, gunning. That's the comparison to this guy's taking it super easy here in preseason games, stuff like that.

It's a possibility. It is.

It is.

Or maybe it's just the sport and where we've gone with this, too, that people are saying.

Okay. A couple of things. When somebody runs a 1500 meter, they do get a real warmup, not just like a jog. That's what I'm saying.

You warm up because you're going to be sprinting from the get-go here. And that's the, the, the comparison I'm trying to make, or maybe poorly, like you're thrown into NBA games, like, here we go. Um, but if you did no ramping up and no actual lead up, you can, you're more, you're more at risk, I guess, for injury.

I hear what you're saying.

Yeah.

I don't think we can really just put it on one thing. Like we had Dr. Borchers on last year Tell us why there's more injuries. There's no answer. I think everybody's is different here. Like Jaron Jackson Jr. got rolled into by Ty Jerome. Jalen Suggs always gets injured. Let's be quite honest. He's coming back in a couple weeks, so that's a good thing. Larry Markin at day-to-day. So, you know, I'm trying to be positive here. But like an Anthony Edwards one, that's just been adding up. Like he said this past offseason, he didn't do a thing for two months. Gained weight. They said, okay, maybe this is the way we get rid of your runner's knee.

And the only way to get rid of it is to have surgery. So it's everybody's is different, I do think. But I love hearing about a marathon runner saying their first mile is when they get warmed up. Because it's true.

I know.

That's why I didn't love that comparison as much. 26 miles. First one, that's a warm up. I got 25 to go. It's hilarious.

Well, that's why I didn't like that metaphor.

Because.

Yeah. Like an amateur runner at the very least, a lot of people run marathons. Your first couple of miles, it's fine to be slow. Like marathons are long, so you can make it up. So, you know, you know, still you want to stretch and warm up and all that. Don't get me wrong. But anyway, it's a bummer. It's a, you know, again, how many days into the season are we?

We're a week plus. Yeah.

Eight days play.

And that is a lot of guys. A lot of notable names too at that. That's the other thing. Yeah. All right, let's get into some of the games last night before we get to the NBA Stock Market Watch. Only four games on and some entertaining games. Do you have a big takeaway from Tuesday's NBA action here? We had Tatum hitting a game winner. We had the Knicks getting their first win. John Morant and Dame leading the Blazers, staying undefeated over the Lakers, and then the Spurs just smoked the Kings.

Let's start with the Lakers-Portland because that was the most fun, I'd say, of all of them. Although, you know, Celtics.

There's a lot of fellows in this game.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I think Celtics and Nets ended fun. But I think the big takeaway was the way they guarded Luka in the fourth quarter. They were front guarding him, face guarding him, and it worked. It worked really well. Their weakest quarter was the fourth quarter because Tamani Kamara was just like, hey, man, you're not touching the ball. Uh, and it helped, uh, you know, he only took three shots, kind of threw him off a little bit in that fourth.

He had five points when he was freaking cooking for the first three quarters. So that just helped. Uh, and the Blazers are looking good. They came into this game with the second best offense, uh, and the third best defense, their defense dropped dramatically 10th or 11th now because Luca was killing him. And so it was Reeves. But they've got the best offense now because their guards are working so well together, plus Denny, call him a guard or whatever.

Nice balance between these three, four, really, guys, if you're counting Denny.

As a guard.

That's probably the best story. And squashing all the Tom Dundon story out there that they're playing so well together. So well, the triple handoffs. They just know how to maximize each other, and their offense is really, really good. So that was a fun one. The Lakers almost won. They got great performances from Luka and Austin Reeves. Almost pulled it out against a really good Blazers team right now.

They can't play defense, though. The Lakers have zero defense. They couldn't contain the ball. It's like, OK, Denny's a great driver. He's going to get in the lane. Drew Holiday is going to kill you on some switches for sure. But they were having trouble staying in front of C.D.

Sissoko.

That turned into 56 points in the paint for the Blazers. They also shot 18 of 36 from three because it was just driving kick all night. So that's going to be a problem going forward. for LA, but yeah, 20 or more points and three or more assists for all four of Jod, Dane, Drew, and Denny. Maybe having a lot of ball handlers is actually good. You know? Swing it to a guy and guess what? They can do something with it. It's helpful.

They can do it all.

John Moran, I thought, looked awesome in this game. He's getting to the lane, the floater. He's got a nice touch right now. A couple beautiful passes. He already has an immediate connection with Time Lord. There was a couple lobs to him. I mean, he's just hanging around the net. So if they challenge the floater or you're shot enough, just chuck it up there right beside the rim and he can go get it. So I thought it was a great game for him. Dame hit the huge three to sort of ice it. His huge wild sidestep type three that he can nail.

Three fourth quarter threes from that guy was like, oh, yeah, just add him to your roster. But you're playing so well with Ja and Denny. Yeah, the perimeter defense is definitely a worry for the Lakers. Now they're trying Zyre Williams and Matisse Theibel, I thought was the worst one of them all. He was just over helping all the time.

And we're just wondering, can they compensate for what they are? They have to be awesome. And he kind of looks like a great J.J. Redick addition to the starting lineup. Here comes Theibel. All right. Here comes Zyre Williams, who's playing well, but they're just having trouble.

Clearly, they're just going to try and outscore teams. And they thought they had it in the bag. They scored over 100 in the first three quarters. But then there was that play right at the end of the third quarter where I think Drew gets a deflection. He dives on the court, scraps it out. Somehow they get the ball back. Time Lord throws the dunk down as the clock expires. Then Lucas subbed out for the start of the fourth quarter. And that's where all the momentum went towards the Blazers. Luca checks back in. Kamara's all over him.

Great win for the Blazers. The Jothing is interesting, though. No dunks yet this season. No. 5% of his shots have been at the rim so far. His career average is 31% of his shots are at the rim. He's taking all floaters right now. He's had to adjust because the athleticism isn't the same, so he's having to use a little bit more craft, a little bit more guile. 60% right now on floaters. Will that keep up?

Holy crap.

I doubt it. 60% on floaters is better than Tony Parker, and he's like one of the kings of actually making your floaters, but it's working right now. Dame still looks good. You still got to guard him. He draws two. all the time. He can play off the ball, so it's working to start the season for sure.

The space on those floaters is definitely up versus his Memphis days because you're paying attention to Denny, you're paying attention to Dame. So there's space out there and he's making it happen.

And Kamara even, he's on fire right now from three. So he's helping space the floaters on the corner.

Stuff like that. It's good.

Their offense looks great, yeah. I mean, they're like the Lakers a little bit right now. I haven't been, you know, the defense I have questions about still with the Blazers, even though you have Kamara and Klingon, it's a nice little sort of, you know, starting point for a defense, but yeah, they're just outscoring teams right here. Also weird down the stretch of this game. We had like all these flopping techs called three of them called in the final six minutes. Both teams are like, what the hell's going on here? And it's so strange too, because it's like one of these calls where like the play, the play can happen. Like the play can play out. So like Reeves, for example, there's one with John Morant. You know,

there's contact. He bumps him. Joss sort of like, he's trying to play with his hands up. So he's like, his hands go up like this, maybe embellishes, whatever. Play just continues. Goes on, goes on. Blazer's going to stop. Ref calls the tech. Because it's like, okay, now it's on you. So strange. But there's other ones in this game.

It was like, everybody was like, what the hell's going on? I know it's a point of emphasis, but they're really doing it in this one. I think some of them are going to get rescinded too, because... If you're calling some of these, we can call this on 85% of the plays where guys are taking a hit. They got Julius Randolph the same way last night.

After the play basically is over, they're like, no, you flopped 14 seconds ago.

It's so weird.

Yeah, it's not going to happen in December. It's so weird. These are October calls. These are point of emphasis. We'll move on eventually.

Probably, probably. So Blazers, good win. Any other takeaways from those games, TK?

The Knicks won. They look like the Knicks again. They asked Jalen Brunson afterwards. He's like, yeah, it turns out we are the Knicks. You know, first bad game of the season for Detroit. Can't be too mad. They didn't have Jalen Duren out there. Carl Anthony Towns saw the matchup with Paul Reed and decided to play like a big guy. He was really aggressive inside. Went 11 for 16 on two pointers, 20 rebounds. That's a lot of roast beef. He had Paul Reed in foul trouble all night.

So the Pistons turned to Toluse Smith, who is a huge guy.

Huge.

That guy's massive. But he can't guard Carl Anthony Towns. The Knicks really picked up their defense, I thought, starting in the second quarter. Mikael Bridges extended out on Cade Cunningham, basically picking him up at half court, staying all over him. And it looked to me like part of the Knicks game plan was to be all over Duncan Robinson. They gave this guy no airspace. He's been really hot to start the season, averaging five threes a game coming into last night. Didn't get one. Until the fourth quarter, I think he started over eight from three. Basically, they took him out of the game and there was nobody else to really be able to make the Knicks pay. Mikael Bridges came through with the breakout game, 12 points last night,

four threes. He had 10 points and zero threes going into the game, hit a three in the first quarter and looked at his hand, started smiling and gave himself a high three.

Yeah, we did it, buddy.

Made a three pointer.

I always love– They're back on track. I love when a professional athlete, an NBA player who's like in a shooting slump reacts like that.

Yeah.

He's like, oh, God, finally I hit one here. I did it.

Yeah.

I mean, look, that all said, the Pistons had what, like 38 points in the first quarter?

They were cooking.

Oh, boy, what's going on with the Knicks? But then they held them to 25 points over the next two quarters. I'm talking about the second quarter and third quarter. And, yeah, you said it, like the defense– Bridges, OG. I thought even in the first quarter they gave up a lot of points. I thought Josh Hart was playing his ass off defensively. You could see he was coming in like, we're going to have to play very hard here to get our first W. This is a good Pistons team.

So I think that maybe helped set the tone. And then offensively, Brunson was struggling for a majority of the game, but got it going, unlocked a little bit as the game went on. They played like a team that was desperate for a win.

They definitely did.

It was the best way to look at it.

Yeah, and it's a classic Knicks. Hey, maybe our first quarter is not going to be all that great. Maybe our first half is not going to be all that great, but here we come. And it's a cat trade, too. Paul Reed kicked his ass at the start of the game. Paul Reed was awesome, but he got into foul trouble later on. And I think I've always underestimated Paul Reed coming into the season. I've said, okay, they gave away Isaiah Stewart. Maybe they're going to be lacking. Paul Reed was good in the playoffs last year, but is that going to carry on? It has. They gave away Isaiah Stewart for a reason because Paul Reed is a good backup. Unfortunately, they missed Jalen Dern a little bit. They missed the depth there.

Josh Hart, I don't think, scored until maybe right at the end of the third quarter. He hit a desperation three, and then he was jumping up and down.

Yay!

I thought that was funny. And I also thought it was funny Mike Tirico... was pissed. He was like, every time there was a foul, he's like, what do you know? Another foul. 51 fouls combined between the two teams. Tirico's getting ornery, man. He definitely is. He's way more testy this year.

I think it's on broadcasters to be funnier. Everybody's like, okay, how are we going to stand out? And I think they've all been told, just be you, Tirico.

We're not mad at it. We want to make that very clear. But when I think of somebody just super even keeled for the last two decades, no matter the sport, I think of Tirico, like the most professional guy of all time. But I'm with you. He's showing a little personality a little bit more.

Yeah, like a ball bounced to him and he hit it. And, you know, they showed the replay of him touching the ball. And he goes, I've got more hops than you expected to Jamal Crawford. Jamal Crawford, no laugh. It's like, you didn't jump, really, dude. I think he was thinking that. He didn't say that. But, you know, he just reached his hand up.

And just then, quickly here, the Celtics-Nets was, I mean, it was wild. It was entertaining. It went to overtime and Tatum hits the game winner perfectly. pretty easy game winner.

Too easy.

Very easy. I think it was a well drawn out play where you had Pritchard sort of took some of the attention as he went to the corner and threw, but yeah, just got the ball Tatum turned around, got to around the free throw line. And it was one of those were like, well, that's in, you know, it was like an easy look for him. Um, but a weird game.

It shouldn't have been there. He shouldn't have even had the opportunity because they're up one, the Brooklyn Nets were up one. Michael Brown got An inbound play. It was an awesome play to set him up, and he could have just held on to the ball. It was six seconds left.

He did a deer and fox.

He shot it, and he missed because it was a nice play set up, so he was going full on board to the rim, and it was a nice defense from who was it?

Who challenged it?

Yeah, who challenged it. Anyway, it doesn't matter. It was Paul George. It was Paul George who did a great job, and he missed. But I just like this game because it was the full Michael Brown experience, the full rookie experience. It didn't start well. He hadn't hit a three for the first three and a half quarters. And then midway through the fourth, he hits a deep three. And he's already talking to the Celtics fans. And so I'm like, okay, here we go. This is good. 45 seconds left. Hit him with another Hesi. He's looking good. And then end of regulation. Beautiful inbound play for him to hit the game tying three to send it to overtime.

After Mitchell Robinson missed two free throws.

Yeah.

There was a lot of things going on in this game.

But it's a full rookie experience with this guy. So I give you all the big hits and then there's plenty of big misses. 30 seconds left. There's no reason for Derek White to back cut him and score there. And then the huge mistake.

That was on MPJ. Yeah. That was on MPJ. He missed the switch for sure.

Okay. Well, yeah. And then a huge mistake for Up one. Again, six seconds left. Just hold on.

He missed another layup. He missed two layups under 10 seconds that would have won the game.

But he was the only reason they were even in the game. What a weird game he had. Ofer from the field through three quarters finished with 17 points. And it was talking trash like he had 80 points in the game. They were also, the Celtics broadcast, terrified of Michael Porter Jr., He had like a 16-point fourth quarter last season. So they're like, watch out for this guy in the fourth quarter. And then he caught fire in the fourth quarter. I thought the Nets really deserved to win that game. But Jason Tatum was great. Like, didn't have the three ball at all last night. Two for seven, but three for four at the rim. Three for five in the lane. Two for four on middies, including that game winner. 18 for 22 at the free throw line.

That's probably why that jumper looked so.

Easy at the end. He'd been living at the line the entire game. He's like, hey, just another one?

A wide open 15-footer?

Cash out.

Yeah, that's too close, man. 15-footer.

You'll like this, though. That was way too close. Mikel Brown Jr., he tweeted, that one is on me, Brooklyn. I'm going to shake back. I promise y'all that. 100 emoji. Okay.

Yeah. Yeah, I think it's so fun to watch.

Kid doesn't lack in confidence.

Yeah, and that's why it's fun to watch him and Darius Acuff in Sacramento taking one after the other. Mikel Brown was selected by the Nets first, and they said, we believe in this guy more versus Darius Acuff, who plays a little differently. But it is fun. It is fun to watch both those guys go at it.

Let's get into the No Dunks NBA Stock Market Watch.

That's right.

Music got serious because we are talking shares.

Business.

Business. What NBA teams or players or futures are we buying, holding, and selling after one week of basketball? You've looked at your portfolio. And you're making some moves, Trey. What do you want to buy more of?

I want to buy more Memphis Grizzlies stock.

Okay.

I need some more shares. I've already got quite a few shares. Because we all went over on the under, over. Who says under, over?

The over, under.

29 and a half preseason. We're all like, yeah, that's easy. We all wanted to see the Grizzlies. We all thought they were going to be good. But now I'm buying shares. as a play-in team. Because I thought it was a little far-fetched that they would make a run at the play-in, but early in the season, they look better than the Warriors to me. They look better than the Jazz to me.

And those are two teams I think that'll kind of be in the mix for the 9-10 seeds in the Western Conference. I took Ty Jerome as one of my picks in our breakout player draft over the summer. I saw his 15 games for Memphis last year, but he's proving that those 15 games weren't a fluke. It's realistic to me that he could average 20 points. Five assists per game? That seems very doable.

Very.

I said he's not going to be an all-star, but right now, he would absolutely be an all-star. He's leading basketball references MVP tracker. He's first in windchairs. He's first in offensive box plus minus. He's first in Vorp.

Vorp?

He's first in Vorp. Wow.

Calculator Rat University is saying he's the best offensive player in the league right now.

You can make a case.

More realistic is that he's going to settle at where he was last season. But that's a really good player because the Grizzlies have great depth. Their vets have been pretty good. Like Zach Eaddy hasn't really done much to start the season. He's only playing like 21 minutes a game. But Isaiah Stewart's been solid. Quentin Post has been solid.

I think Jeremy Grant has been helpful. The starting lineup for the Grizzlies early on. 18 points per 100 possessions better than their opponents. That's eighth among high minute limit or high minute lineups. They've got 11 guys that average 15 or more minutes a game. That's the way Isolo wants to play is all these subs, all these guys staying fresh. They've got a lot of good players. They're all playing really well. Eventually the shooting will come back down to earth right now. Cedric Cowards at 73%. Cam Spencer is 60 and Jalen Wells is 50. And they're all taking like four threes a game. Probably not going to last the entire season. They're probably not going to be a top 10 offensive team for the whole year,

but they look like a scrappy team that's bought in and they got a ton of depth. That's going to equal a lot of regular season wins, I think.

And we all took the over, you said.

We did, yeah.

All right, we're smart.

Good. Yeah, yeah. Because Thomas Cecil Lowe's got so many guys that he can throw out there and they are absolutely performing. Ty Jerome leading all those stats, or having all those stats. Also, most injuries caused, I'd say, this season. Accidentally running into Jaron Jackson Jr. 's leg, a guy on a team that should be was expected to be a better team than the Memphis Grizzlies, but here they are, man.

I mean, I do buy the Grizzlies, too. How can you not? Look great.

And their head coach is a starters, potentially no-ducks fan.

Certainly a starters fan. Has he been able to follow us to YouTube?

I hope so.

Gotta check. Gotta see when the Hawks have the Grizzlies in town.

Yeah, it was on NBA TV in Finland. Not necessarily just in Finland, but he coached in Europe, so it was just all over Europe, and he was watching. When I say... He's finished. It also makes sense why he does these hockey changes, like five guys on, five guys off, like really short sprints for guys.

Who's your favorite Finnish hockey player of all time?

Oh, obviously it's Timu Salami. Timu Salami.

Good pick, man.

He's good. Amika Kiprasov was a badass goaltender, though.

You know who I like? I'm going back to the Edmonton days, so I know you're a Flames fan. Yari Currie.

Yeah, he's good.

Yeah, man. Yari Currie.

I don't know how to rock it. Yeah, he did.

All right, man.

I can't. I don't know. Come on.

Slim Jesus. Mika Muranen. I heard he's taking up the stick.

I hope not. He's a great basketball player.

Yeah, but he's like Danny Ainge.

He can do it all.

Oh, wow. A lot of NBA players hung out in Finland to hang out with Lowry Markkinen.

That's nice. Yeah.

Yeah, Kante George was there. I think Ace Bailey went too. So there's some time. Will Hardy went.

I would love to go to Finland. Has anybody been to Finland? No.

No?

No?

No?

JD, chime in if you have. I don't think you have.

Okay.

But they got NBA TV over there, so now I'm going.

Okay, good. They got saunas and stuff. Yep. All right.

Who are you buying, Tass?

Money Mellis, who are you buying? What do you want more stock in?

I'm buying the Charlotte Hornets. I love everything about this team. The way they play, the way they built their team, even their broadcasters. Well, let's start on the... Hell yeah. Hell yeah, they're good. On the floor, the way they play, a lot of pick and slips, a lot of guard, guard, pick and roll. They're really, really good at setting up their guys to shoot threes. They're second in threes, and that's without Conk and Nipple and Kobe White to this point.

So they just know what they're doing. Brandon Miller looks awesome. And he's part of a great roster, I think. The way they've set it up, their front office doing a great job of going depth instead of necessarily just going stars. They traded Miles Bridges for two guys in Royce O'Neal and Grayson Allent. and they got a pick there. And then they're also accumulating a lot of second round picks.

I know it's not the sexiest thing. I know you don't like talking about second round picks, but I think with the current CBA and the way money has to be accumulated or assigned by front offices, you'll see late first round picks traded for early second round picks. And so I think that'll happen as teams need to save their books. So They're just doing a great job at everything.

They've got guys that work hard as far as their roster goes, like Amusa Diabate. I love the Nas Reed insertion there. And the broadcasters, as I said. Eric Collins, one of the best. Even earlier this week, he did a great job. It was after halftime, and he throws it to the sideline reporter, Shannon Spake. And he goes, what do you got for us, Shannon? And she says, catching up with an assistant, Kyle Neptune. He said planets are aligned for the Hornets. And when she was done, Eric Collins goes, did she say planets are aligned? And she jumped in. She said, yeah, I did. And he goes, that was hilarious. And she said, that was for you.

And he said, I thought it was a happy accident.

And you said she was talking to a guy named Neptune?

Yeah, Kyle Neptune.

Kyle Neptune.

That's why she played in that the planets are aligned. Yeah, she's smart. It worked out well. What I wanted to know was what Kyle Neptune had to eat at half, because he was picking his teeth. They showed the close-up to him as Shannon Spake was doing her report, and he just had a finger deep into that planet. He's like going, he made a crater in there. He's like, what's going on in there? So that's the next report that I need. But they're awesome. They're just great.

Now, I'll only push back on who they've beaten here because it has been a pretty easy schedule. Now, they got waxed by the Hawks, but they beat the Nets, they beat the Heat, who are obviously struggling, and I think they beat the Wizards. They might be fighting in the standings, so that's a quality win. But I think they play the Pistons tonight, back-to-back for Detroit, in Detroit.

Maybe they're angry after that loss though last night. I think they play them a couple times coming up here. I just can't wait to see them play some of the better teams here.

They're setting themselves up really well for the future. There's no doubt about that and what they're accumulating. And they're not going to spank the good teams. They could be this year's version of the Phoenix Suns that we saw last year, where the Phoenix Suns were really, really good at the bad teams, playing the bad teams. They were 26-18 last year against below 500 teams and only 19-29 against teams above 500. So we could see that from the Charlotte Hornets. That being said, they don't have their starting backcourt.

Well, that's the crazy part. They're leading the league in three-point attempts per game at 45.3. Oh, I thought.

That was second. That must have dropped yesterday. Anyways, go on.

Go on. It doesn't matter.

The basketball reference was updating slowly this morning, so I could be wrong. Anyway, but then to add two guys in Kahn and Kobe eventually, like, they should lead the league in three-point attempts if that's what they're already doing under Charles Lee.

Yeah, they are leading. And those guys. That's why I know I couldn't stop talking about the guard picking slips, the guard guard picking rolls. I think It's fun to watch. Yeah, they're going to get them up, especially those other guys.

Yeah, first and three-point attempt rate, almost 50% of the shots are from three, and third in offensive rebound rate. They know exactly how they want to play.

All right, I'm going to buy a player. You guys are going teams? I'm going to buy Jaden McDaniels to go back to how we started this podcast, talking about the Anthony Edwards injury. McDaniels has all-star upside. We've seen it. For flashes, we've seen it in the postseason. Man, the guy had like, what, 32-10 to close out the Nuggets after he talked mad shit to them last season there in their first round series. So he's going to see, I believe, a meaningful usage bump in Ant's absence. I know we immediately go, well, to Lomelo or to Io, you know, getting more minutes there and slotting into the starting lineup. I get that, but I think it's really in McDaniels. He's averaging 15 points per game. He's shooting

lights out. He's like 59%, 42% from three. So I'm buying McDaniels here over these next couple months. Will I sell before Ant comes back? TBD. But there's an opening here in the market here, and I have faith in him. You know you're getting great defense, but we've seen it before from him. He can step up into more of a secondary sort of scoring role, and maybe even at times sort of your lead guy. So I'll buy McDaniels.

It's a good time to buy. Yeah. We saw it last year in the playoffs when Anthony Edwards was out to finish off that series against the Denver Nuggets. Yeah, 32-10.

Yeah.

So this is a good time. And then you might sell.

We might sell.

We might sell.

That's okay.

We're always moving around the money. Moving around the stocks.

That's how the money makers make it.

I would say hold on until February. Yeah. Because if there's ever a season when he's going to make an all-star game, it is right now. Yeah. He can be LaMelo's number one running mate. Anthony Edwards is going to be out until who knows how long, but he could perhaps steal his all-star spot. There's no Julius Randle around to take up possessions. They need somebody to score. His usage rate has been down to start the season as LaMelo has come and taken bigger responsibilities, but there's an opportunity now, so we'll see what he can do with it.

All right, let's get to our- Oh, I had a couple of more small buys.

Small buys? Somebody should buy Cooper Flagg getting his first MVP votes. It's going to happen this year. Sure. 10th in points per game right now, 19th in assists, first in steals. 17th in blocks, John Hollinger, first in PER.

So you see an end-of-ballot type of voter, too.

Yeah, I mean, could he finish top five if the Mavericks exceed expectations? Sure, but I think he's going to be on people's ballots this year because he looks at the worst, like a top 20 NBA player. And I would say that now is going to be the cheapest time you can ever buy Oklahoma City Thunderstock. Just lost two starters, maybe for the season. And we don't think they're going to take that big of a step back.

Right, right. yeah something i'd be interested in yeah i'm with you it's funny you brought those two teams up i think they play tonight so maybe wait one more night to.

Buy your thunder if the mavs if cooper and the mavs beat okc give them their first loss night then jump on the.

Uh buying okc all right yeah i'm with you.

Couple small buys there from TK. What about your hold positions, Trey Kirby? I'm holding the Indiana Pacers.

Tass is right. The injuries are a problem right now. Definitely sapping their depth, but these are not long-term injuries, I don't think. Evita Zubat's rolled an ankle. Andrew Nembhard has a sore neck. TJ McConnell's hamstring, definitely more worrisome. And Ben Shepard is out, but he's kind of fallen to the fringes of the rotation. Anyways, the reason I like to hold this Pacers stock is because Tyrese Halliburton is good already. 21 points per game, nine assists on 51-37-87 splits. And he's not even in full game shape now, but he's obviously trying to prove his leg works. He's doing dunks any chance he can get. He's driving to the hoop. And I think the minutes with him, Evita Zubac, and Pascal Siakam have been pretty good. It's very early

in the season, but when those three have been on the court, plus three, over 100 possessions that's like top 10 team worthy so I assume Zubats will come back fairly quickly Siakam has been pretty durable and Halliburton is looking like Halliburton a transformative player a guy who gets everybody involved and just makes everybody on the team look better so I can see the Pacers struggling right now while they've got their center out but as soon as Zubats comes back as soon as Nembhard strengthens that neck up they'll be.

All good Yeah, the guard depth is a little scary because you just want some guards. I mean, they basically have so many of them out, as you said. It's a neck for Nembhard. Old neck heart. Maybe it comes back. But TJ McConnell out for a while here. Ben Shepard out for a while here. Here's the scary part. On tonight's injury report produced by the NBA at 1045 Eastern, so it's very, very recent, Tyrese Halliburton is questionable with a left hamstring tightness. Don't like that. And that was the injury that held him out for a while, you know, before tearing the Achilles. So that's, I don't like reading that.

It's just the depth is an issue there. So it's a good hold. It's a good hold.

Good hold. I'm with you on that hold. I had him on my short lifts. Who are you on?

I got the Golden State Warriors. Hold! I'd say you hold.

All right, convince me.

Well, Jimmy Butler will return. I'm not a doctor, so don't listen to what I say. But that being said, if there's anybody who's going to fight through something, it's Jimmy Butler. When he comes back, here's your closing lineup. Steph Curry, obviously, Jimmy, Draymond, Brandon Pajemski, and a Yaxel Lindenberg.

That's a good closing lineup if they're all healthy and all playing well. And so it's a bit of a future hold. It's not right now. Jimmy Butler's not coming back anytime soon. It'll be late December. But when you've got what Yaxel Lindenberg has shown himself to be early in the season, He has been so good. You can literally run the offense through him at times because he can do it all. He can go right. He can go left. He can pass. He can score. He can dribble.

He's that type of player. And that's what I was wondering before the season. If the Warriors are going to be good, that guy has to be good. He really has to be great. I think he is their second best player. Full stop right now. And he's 24 years old, so it's not like he's a rook rookie. And I think the Warriors are looking at him and saying, okay, if we're going to do anything for Steph Curry's near future here in Golden State, because he doesn't have a long one, if we're going to do anything, he's got to be good. That has happened. Draymond Green, Jimmy Butler beside him, I think they'll be good. I thought coming in, the question marks were Lindenberg, Jimmy, the bigs have to be decent. Okay, that did not work out. But the

role players... have accounted for a decent amount of that. No Chris Epps in there. He's still with the Guy Santos, D'Anthony Melton, Brandon Williams, Gary Payton, Will Richard, George Neang, and Al Horford sometimes because he's in play all the time. I think that's enough. So this is a long play because then when you see Jimmy Butler come back, the front office can say, okay, it's time to use those draft picks too to get us better in a trade possibility.

So hold this. Hold this. Put it away. Don't look at your stock market or your portfolio at all. And you'll see in 2027, I think there's a real chance Mike Dunleavy pulls the trigger.

Oh, we've heard that a couple of times before.

Yeah. But, but this is the end of Steph's career. If there's any time to do it, they're going to do it now. And it's going to be, they're going to be waiting to see what Jimmy can do. Yeah. Plus Jax Landerberg is damn good. He's damn good right now.

That is true. It looks like he can with that, with a full team or a much fuller team, he can easily play a part and contribute to winning. I hear you on that. I'm not as convinced, though, on the Warriors here still. Just so many old guys. Just too many old guys, man.

Yeah, and the stream team, they're saying they put the old in hold.

Well, yeah.

You put the old in golden, too.

Yeah, that's fair. I mean, that's part of why I was definitely worried before the season. But as I said, Guy, he's young. He's playing. He's helping out. Guy Santos is helping out. Brandon Williams looks great for them when he does play. You got a Will Richards. And I say those because those are the young guys. But then, yeah, your oldies are helping, and DeAnthony and George Niang.

And Pods is good, man. He's only played two games, but when he's on the court, they look like a real.

Team, I think. Yeah, exactly. And that's why that starting lineup, I should say their finishing lineup, isn't going to be what they start. They want a center, and that's what I was worried coming into this year. Draymond's going to be playing their center to end games alongside a big Yaxel and Pods and Jimmy and Curry. Um, when I say those five guys, is that not good? I think that's, that's a good five to end games with. Uh, but they got to get there and that's why I know everybody in the stream team is saying, yeah, they, they put the old in hold.

In order to end games, they need to all be in their jerseys at the start of said game to end the game.

And that's why, that's why big Al starts, you know, he's drinking his chocolate milk and he's very, very healthy dude and he'll play 20 minutes and then he'll sit at the end of games. Same for Will Richard or D'Anthony Melton. They're going to play and get you to the end, and that's why this thing is a marathon, and you should hold your stocks. Okay, okay.

I'm holding the Portland Trailblazers. We already talked a lot about them and their win last night, so don't need to go over it, but that offense looks elite. We thought maybe it would take a little while for them to figure it out, right? Sort of where all the touches are coming and shots are coming, but so far so good with the four guards in And Ja, Dame, Denny Avdia as we lump in there because he handles the ball. And then Drew Holiday, man. I love Drew Holiday so much. Just such like a winning guy, man.

You just feel at peace when he's out there, I feel like, with your team. I'm sure Blazers fans do at least. So just like what I see here, I think Nori is an awesome coach too. And I think he also is doing things here. Like that game last night against the Lakers. Luka came out, guns blazing there in the start of the second half. And the lead built.

And it was like, uh-oh. And obviously the Blazers didn't let go of the rope enough. And he sort of stuck with his guys too. He didn't over-panic Norrie in terms of like, get these guys off the floor. And I think other coaches would be like, right back to the starters right away. He's playing the long game a little bit here, which is ironic for a guy that's only under contract and feels like everyone from week to week.

But I like it. And I think he's proven that he is going to be a legit NBA coach. And there was always a reason why we were always saying, oh, this assistant, he'll be a good one. They're my hold here. They're over under was a tricky like 41 and a half or something like that. Maybe I think I just went over. Maybe somebody was with me.

I went over.

Yeah.

I think Trey was just under, but I know we were talking about like perfect range and it will probably be around there. But after the first start of this week here to the season, you know, I'm, I'm feeling better even about the pick just offensively, the flow of things.

If they're buying into what Mike Norrie, Mike Norrie wants them to do. Yeah. I think that's clear. And so if you can buy stock into Mike Inori, that's probably a good move. He's probably going to get another year on that contract, but it's going to be year to year.

I also wanted to hold the Blazers because I want Tom Dundon to hold the Blazers in Portland.

That should happen.

Talking that into existence as well.

I will say that your Drew Holiday, I think the love for Drew Holiday still remains here in 2026, and it's going to go on. I don't know how long the guy's going to play, but they probably don't win that game without him. And the steal that he made on Luka Doncic to end that third quarter, that poke in the backcourt, because he knows, okay, we've got 10 seconds left on the clock. I can go all out.

And he makes that steal to turn into Rob Williams' dunk. As he told Mike Inouye before the season, I could have been with you in Minnesota and we would have won a championship any one of those years. And it's hard not to buy into what Drew Holiday does. He's, he's, he's just one of those guys. Do they have too many guards? Doesn't look like it. I mean, it might be a good thing. Yeah.

All right. And let's get to the final part of the stock market watch here. Who's selling.

I'm selling the Denver nuggets, but in reality, I would like to peer to peer trade my nuggets overlock for a rockets overlock. They were both at 47 and a half preseason and, We all took both overs. And for me personally, my last lock came down to, am I siding with Skeets locking in the Rockets or am I siding with Tass locking in the Nuggets? I locked in the Nuggets and I should have locked in the Rockets.

They got better depth, better youth, better athleticism. That to me sounds like a recipe for a better regular season. The question right now for me with the Nuggets are, number one, is Nikola Jokic okay? There's speculation- that injuries are adding up with this guy. He is not imposing his will yet. The touch is definitely off to start the season. He's shooting 41% from the field. 21% from three.

These are obviously going to go up, but the more concerning number to me is that his average shot length is 14 feet by far the longest of his career. Usually it's like 10 to 11 feet. He has also got the highest three point attempt rate of his career, lowest free throw rate of his career. All of this tells you he's not inside as often. He's not pushing guys around the way he was able to earlier in his career, but He's becoming a little bit more perimeter based.

And the guy is the best two point shooter that we've seen in since Shaq. Right. Like he should be dominating inside. That hasn't been the case yet. I assume that will change over the season. He'll start ripping off 30, 20, 20.

There'll be a stretch.

Absolutely. But it's definitely odd to see him playing more as a stretch five than anything else. More worrisome to me, though. is Aaron Gordon, who looks very past his prime. He looks bulky. He doesn't look explosive. He has one dunk in three games. It's the lowest rebound rate of his career. I just don't know if he's the same athlete he was.

He's had lower leg injuries for the past two, three seasons. They've robbed him of time, but he's always been able to recover. But there just reaches a point when combined with age, multiple injuries, you're not the same player you were. He's increased his skill level. over the past couple of seasons for sure. But you still want Aaron Gordon to be your number one athlete out there. And I don't think he has that anymore. Good thing for the nuggets.

This is Brazil. This guy looks good. Trevin Brazil is good. Like it's good to get anybody who can run and jump. They haven't had Spencer Jones play yet. They haven't had Julian Strother play yet. Those guys will be helpful just to have a few more bodies on the court who are in their 20s. But the Nuggets, they look old to me. And that starts with two of their top three players. Jokic is looking a little weird right now.

And Gordon is struggling a little bit.

For sure. Going into this offseason, I thought the Peyton Watson trade that ended up happening could really hurt them because I thought he was their most athletic player. And he would compensate well for Aaron Gordon, who has left both of the last two playoffs injured. And so, OK, worry there. But then here you Maybe a Cam Johnson, maybe a Christian Brown, maybe a Julian Strother, maybe a Trevin Brazil, who's jumping from the Southern Hemisphere to the Northern Hemisphere, if you can. I mean, he's so good.

But then there's other guys like Spencer Jones has not played. Alpha Diallo, who's a pest, hasn't played. And Cam Johnson is also, you know, he's doubtful for tonight with that ankle injury. Will he come back? But Aaron Gordon's not going to be the same. I think that's clear. While Nikola Jokic should be the same because he's still in his prime. That was the weird thing. In last year's playoffs, I know everybody out there was getting after me. You're not getting Rui Gobera enough love in the way he's shutting down Nikola Jokic. Rui Gobera's a very, very, very good defender. But Nikola Jokic just simply didn't look right.

Then he goes and plays in the offseason for Serbia. All right, he's back to his normal self. And then these first three games, he's just hanging out on the perimeter, shooting the most threes of his career. That's not Jokic. And I don't know if it's the lingering injuries, but I just got to assume he's going to come back and play better. Or is he just done with basketball in Denver? I know that's a reach. He wants to be there, but he's just not the same guy. And I don't know if it's the physical thing. Maybe it's something else going on there. All that to say, they got the guys if they play. And so I super locked them. I also super locked the Rockets. So I'm a peer-to-peer trade myself. There you go. That's the way

to do it. I should have just done both. Well, who were your three locks in the West?

Well, I also locked the Mavericks under. So I would kind of want to sell that one.

Yeah, yeah.

They look okay. They look all right. Yeah, Coop is looking good.

The other concern with the Nuggets, and not like they've ever been elite on the defensive end, but this defense is a joke through three games. If you are watching Nuggets games, I mean, it's... it's embarrassing. Like, and that starts with Jokic around the rim. I guess he's around the rim on the defensive end and he just lets guys go in, but it's, nobody can stop anybody. They used to be like an average defensive team, you know, like 15th. They had a year where they were top 10 under Mike, uh, Michael Malone. That was good. That's fine.

That's passable when your offense is elite and one of the best, but like, I know 23 games, well, they're like 27, 28. They're one of the worst right now. So that I got to see some, some fight on that end. Um, even if they're limited in terms of the personnel for that team. And they've always been on that side of the ball. But it's ugly to watch, man.

It is. There's just no fight at all. It's like, okay, well, you score, and then we'll try and score. Okay, now your turn to score. You're not going to win a lot of games that way.

Yeah, and that's why they go get a Trev in Brazil, and that's why they go get Alfa Diallo to help out that thing. But it's got to start in the starting lineup. Both those guys are coming off the bench. And is it a– it's the Christian– Cam and Aaron question, and maybe you've got to switch it up at some point.

I mean, Christian's okay. He's not right. But it's not overwhelmingly well, and Cam Johnson's missing games like he has for the last several years, so it's worrisome.

Who or what are you selling?

Sell the Suns. I think there's too many questions there. It starts with Jalen Green as their point guard. They're trying to run out there. It doesn't appear to be him. At the center spot, Mark Williams, injured again. Um, and Kevin Milowich, I don't think is necessarily ready. Now, Osugi Daro also a little bit injured, but he might come back.

He could help out. Uh, and then Dylan Brooks also ain't quite the same. So I think there's just questions. Um, maybe Colin Gillespie plays more point guard. Maybe Osugi Daro comes back. Maybe Dylan goes to his arraignment for his DUI today and everything's okay afterwards. Um, but so there's lots of questions, uh, But I'll sell. It's just the West seems tough, and even a 10-game let's-figure-things-out run could hurt them. That's all. That's all. But that could last, I think. I don't know if Malawach is the guy at this point. Mark Williams, we don't know if he could come back. So this 10-game thing might be too short in my estimation here. Maybe it's even longer with this team. So lots of questions.

You're selling the idea of them even being a play-in team, it sounds like.

With the way the West is going... I mean, they should fight for it, right? But I'm sold on so many more teams now.

Yeah.

Early there.

Yes, I think that's exactly right. And look, we took a lot of shit. I think you went with me under on the Suns.

I did, yeah.

But the Suns fans were vocal. We won 45 games last year. Like, you know, we've added some pieces here. Like, what are you guys talking about?

But.

That was a part of the concern. You sort of caught lightning in a bottle, so to speak, and then these other teams on the come up that you might get bumped down. You brought up the records versus bad teams and good teams. That was part of the equation, part of the thinking.

Why they were good, yeah, last year.

Yeah, a little bit. And just why they'll sort of take a little bit of a step back this year.

And fans will say, yeah, we added guys. But the two-for-one trade I don't think was a smart move. And Royce O'Neal going out, Grayson Allen going out. In comes Miles Bridges. Not so good. And Mark Williams, not healthy to start the season. So there's that. And Dylan ain't killing it. Dylan ain't killing the way he was last year.

And then the Jalen Green thing. There's questions. Because I assume you guys are taking teams like even the Jazz more so.

The Jazz haven't impressed yet.

No, they haven't, but they can score, man. They can still score. I don't know. There's a bunch of teams like Dallas.

But right now, the Grizzlies, the Mavs, yes.

There's too many. You've been more impressed.

Well, the one team you're not taking over the Phoenix Suns is my final sell here, and that would be the Sacramento Kings. Their overs, which Trey Kirby and I, like idiots, took. Now, still a lot of basketball still to be played. Their over was 20 and a half, by the way. It was very, very low. The lowest.

But they're still looking for their first win. They got waxed by the Spurs. We didn't even talk about it. There was no point. I mean, it was embarrassing. I think it was like 80 points on their head in the first half. Deuce from the fantastic Deuce and Moe Kings podcast. He started the podcast last night with this. Quote, You know it's probably a bad thing, Morgan, when it's October 27th and it feels like March 30th. Man, that was like, oh, man, I felt for my guy Deuce right there. It was a long season ahead when it's feeling like the end of the season and we're not even through the first basically week of the season. The Kings rank second last in defensive rating, second last in net rating at minus 17.0, second last in assist percentage

because you've got to pass the ball to get assists. They rank third last in offensive rating, third last in rebound percentage, third last in assist ratio. It's bad. My worrisome part there is like I said they're second or third last in those, so there's still room to go even worse as the season goes on. But I don't know.

I can't believe we took the over on this team because if you've seen them play– It is tough to talk yourself into this team winning a quarter of their games is what we're basically having to get to.

Even more now after going 0-4. During the preseason, I was like, 21 wins, that's nothing. Now I'm like, 21 wins in 78 games, that's impossible. There's no possible way they can do that. Especially if you figure they're going to trade guys eventually. Not that Sabonis has even had an opportunity to really do much. Zach Levine is certainly getting the shots up, but Maybe these guys have some allure somewhere, but that makes the team even less talented and they just, they.

Feel like they're beat before it starts. but you know deuce and mo had great halloween costumes so they were a fire.

It's not all lost yeah deuce dressing up as red panda was very funny uh that's a good question yeah uh and then noted kings fan tom ziller wrote today uh about neek clifford you only have five minutes in last night's game And Ziller wrote, it must be so hard to find him minutes when the rest of the bench is going, uh, four for 25 from the floor.

And then Z asks, is it too early to call for Doug Christie's job? To which I say, it is absolutely not. I'm almost shocked at this point. Like, now is anybody going to come in here and suddenly turn this team around? Probably unlikely. with the current makeup and obviously a rookie point guard in hilarious areas, getting all his shots up. And then these vet guys that want to just be like, save me, somebody trade for me. No, it ain't going to be the coach. But at the same time, Doug Christie is not the coach for this team's future. So it's like, just rip the bandaid off. Slot, move somebody over. Get a cool assistant. It's a good point.

At the very least, you're going to be bad. Some of these guys should get some opportunity here. Maybe a part of it is build up these Levines and Sabonises and their value so they can be traded.

I don't know.

Bad, bad, bad, bad. Sell, sell, sell the Kingsovers. You can buy mine for a low, low price right now.

How does Zach Levine do it, man? How does he do it? He's 27 points per game, 52 from the field, 39 from three.

These are great numbers, man. You're like, oh, come on.

Zach Levine in an absolute bucket.

How does Demata Sabonis do it? 16 and a half rebounds a game. Leading the league.

Come on.

And they're still not doing it. It was weird because at the end of last year, they played all the young guys. They played your neeks. Yeah. And it was working out. And that's what Doug went to.

And now.

DeAndre Hunter, you're a starting small forward, just eating up minutes for no reason.

He got his stats last night, don't worry.

Yeah, he did. But, you know, you can blame the front office for that. Like maybe DeAndre Hunter is a part of the Sabonis-Levine crew or show other teams that he can play. Maybe. But it just doesn't work out. I do think Keegan Murray comes back when he comes back.

Yeah, they are missing some of their young guys because of injury. So maybe Doug Christie has an out there. I can't even play them. They're not here.

Yeah, sort of true. Yeah, sort of true.

All right, those are our buy, hold, and sells. Tell us what your portfolio is looking like after a week of basketball.

All right, Wobbly.

Wobbly. Today's Wobbly sponsorship is from a longtime No Dunks fan, Levi Linston. But instead of sending us the money, Levi is donating to a charity of his choice. Okay, the nonprofit organization he has selected is Reign. who most notably operate the 24-7 sexual abuse hotline, 1-800-656-HOPE, H-O-P-E, as Levi writes.

I think together we can all support the Jane Doe's in our life through collective effort and eventually eradicate the sexual assault epidemic entirely. Good cause there from Levi. So Tatum gets the little boy. There's a couple to pick from, but game high 40 points, including a 17-foot jumper. at the overtime buzzer as he put his hands up should have yelled out lamb chops and gravy shot 10 and 20 from the floor 18 to 22 at the charity stripe career highest for free throws made and attempted for tatum eight assists five boards one block 42 turnover free minutes and that's uh you know that's pretty impressive there the ball is in his hands a lot and he's being asked to like not only be a scorer proven

by a lot of free throw attempts in the 40 points but Playmake as well. And, you know, I almost had Jason Tatum MVP chances as a buy. I almost went that direction.

Fifth on the tracker.

The narrative is there, too. Could the Celtics, they'd have to, like, in this hypothetical, probably win the East. His numbers would be elite. And, you know, he's always in the running. He's always at the end of the ballot. So could he go higher? Maybe. But anyway, he gets well played. So there you go.

It's great.

I got a little trivia question though for you carl anthony towns had 27 points 20 rebounds right that's a lot of roast beef thank you 17th career 20.20 rebound game for cat 17 that's a lot that's amazing yeah third among active players behind which two guys 20 points 20 rebounds active players you first sir nicole yokich 22 is correct. Who did you say?

Demata Savonis? No, incorrect. Oh, I'm sorry about that.

20 rebounds, 20 points.

This guy's done it 42 times.

42 times?

Yeah.

And he will probably, I mean, he won't be a Hall of Famer.

No. What? No.

Honestly, probably not even close.

There's no way Andre Drummond got, wow.

Andre Drummond.

I didn't think he would have 42, 20, 20. That's amazing.

That's from Statitudes.

That's actually amazing.

That's a hell of a stat. Drummond, Jokic.

20 rebounds, no surprise.

I know, I know, I know.

And then Cat right there, like I said, 17. Wow. Yeah, isn't that crazy? I mean. Wow, we got that in. Yeah.

That's a good stat.

Thank you, Statitudes. Very nice.

He's got 152 20-point games total. And how many did you say were?

42.

What a percentage. Yeah.

Yeah.

Salute to you, Andre Drummond. He said I'm the best rebounder ever.

Maybe he is.

How is that possible? And DeMontis only has 14. You would think that.

It's not that bad.

I know. But, I don't know. You just think he would have more than Andre Drummond.

I was surprised by Cat having that many. That's why we got to this here. Wow, he's got 17 of those already? Amazing. All right. Let's get soon here to the Pick'Em.

This is a quick pick. And that goes into our Pick'Em game tonight. Magic at Raptors.

Is the game we have selected. The Raptors are favorites by four and a half points, despite, of course, no Kawhi Leonard. And coming off a pretty abysmal performance against the Timberwolves.

Yeah, they could do it.

It's not stopping Trey and I from backing the Raps at home. But you got the magic here.

Yeah, I'm on tilt, as I told you yesterday.

You are on tilt.

Don't bet with me. Similarly, yesterday I bet against a team that was kind of desperate for a win in the New York Knicks. And the Raptors are a little different. because they won some games, unlike the Knicks, who were winless going into last night. But they came off a bad loss against the Timberwolves.

Scotty Barnes' worst game of his career?

He was an 0-4.

Probably?

Had to have been.

Yeah, 8-12, and Purtle was an 0-4, too.

No points from the frontcourt.

So Raptors are a good pick. But I do like the Magic post-Paolo Bancaro days, like while he's injured. I think they're good. I think they came alive against the New York Knicks when Bancaro was out, and then Jalen Suggs was out. They had a great fourth quarter.

Yep.

Last year, they were 7-3 without Paolo Bancaro, which is kind of surprising. Not as surprising as the Andre Drummond stat, but pretty surprising that they were that good. And Franz has to step up, and they have other guys that can step up, and Da Silva, Anthony Black. Enough, I think, to keep it within four. But I could be wrong.

I thought I was being an honorable gentleman. I was like, I'm getting my pick in last year. If the Two Raptors fans want to pick the Raptors, so be it. But no, you swerved it on there. I'm surprised you took the magic.

Yeah, I know. But I don't know. I just want to lose.

These teams feel like they play 28 times a season to me. This has to be the most common matchup in NBA history. Even though they're both expansion teams overall, I feel like they've played each other a thousand times if you throw in the playoffs as well.

I know what you mean. I know what you mean.

I went back and checked last year. I'm like, how many times did they play? It felt like 40. But it was only 30.

Only three yeah max four no not max i guess cup cup yeah and playoffs it's true that's true i like look as a raptors fans i will even admit i was like i debated this one i mean there's some points here it could be a close game and i'm like i haven't been all that impressed with their apps you know and the magic i like better when the magic are missing one of their main guys i actually think it it works better so we'll see maybe it'll be a close one TAS really needs the magic here to either win or keep it within four.

Yeah, yeah.

He's not confident about it.

No, no. No one's confident about it, and we always have to make the pick where one guy doesn't have the same pick.

Well, that is true.

That's mandatory.

Can you imagine that graphic with the same three logos on it?

It'd be ridiculous, man.

People would clown us for days.

Yeah, but there's only three days left, so you're right. Wow.

Short, short month here. Tonight, Thursday, and Friday, yeah. You, well... Yeah, dare I say, you might almost need this.

Absolutely.

Pretty close. 12 NBA games on tonight, including an ESPN doubleheader. Sixers-Pacers, Mavericks-Thunder are our doubleheader games there. So not bad. Not bad at all. And a bunch of other ones. So maybe we'll do some drafting our favorite games from tonight. Do a couple rounds of that because there is a lot.

There's Survivor. Dear Lord. One of those busy Wednesday nights in the NBA. If you haven't already, go get your No Dunks reversible jersey. NoDunks.com. Link is in the show notes. Take you right there. These are only available until the end of the month. So you got a few days left to get your red or green reversible jerseys, white on the other side. And these are nice guys. These are very, very nice. Nice quality. You're going to be very happy with these. So buy one and then take a photo of you wearing it. And then tag us.

Go play basketball. All right, we'll call it there.

We'll be back tomorrow. Until then, Clipper Rose. You heard it here first.

Have a great time.

Turn up. Love you guys. Awesome.

Thanks for joining us. And remember, we're going to get that cool plastic shoe that people drink beer out of from our man, Chief. I was just looking for the photo because he sent it to me.

He sent in a photo of the thing already.

The one he bought?

Yeah, he sent it days ago when he was at the arena. Ah, okay, okay, okay. And he was sipping and he was asking about my lacing technique that i use and whether or not i've done it on a shoe like that the heel lock the heel lock can.

You do it on a we'll find out because we'll.

Get it soon i guess so and we'll be drinking beans yeah.

We're basically we have our pick'em decided for the short month of october but it sounds like the old bean shoe is our our november pick'em payoff I like it.

That's literally eating beans with liquid in it? Yes.

Here's what happens. We get this cup shoe. We get a can of beans. You've got to open them. You've got to pour it in. And then throughout that episode, you've got to eat it from the shoe.

Eat a can of beans out of a shoe.

Hopefully it's more than one can.

Why?

It's not going to fill the.

I want it filled to the brim. You start making picks, big guy. Yeah, we'll fill it to the brim. I don't think it's as big as you think.

Yeah, I agree.

The cup shoe. I thought it was bigger in my head, but I see these people with them in the stands last night. I was like, okay.

No.

It's probably a, what?

It fills a beer. 12-ounce beer, 16-ounce beer. 12-ounce beer. So lunch. Pick and pay off is lunch. Yeah, right.

12 ounces of beans?

God damn, we're going to fart up the factory. That's lunch for a hobo.

Come on, man.

Or an Englishman.

Oh, you want to put some sausages in there?

Maybe a surprise sausage?

Maybe.

A little toast?

Fine, keep the beans coming, we'll say.

Chief, can you send us two shoes? A pair of shoes. All right, we'll see you guys tomorrow on Brace the Day, people.
