Reality with the King is hosted by me, Carlos King. I'm an executive producer who have produced some of your favorite shows from the Real Housewives of Atlanta, New Jersey, and my own creation, the Love and Marriage franchise and Bell Collective. Every episode, we recap reality television from the Real Housewives franchise to The Bachelor or Selling Sunset. in addition to celebrity guests, whether in the unscripted space or scripted as well. We got so many hot topics to get into. I mean, from Savannah Jane's first class problems.

We got the actor Da Vinci who caught himself in a debacle.

We got a friend to the show, Ebony K.

Williams, with her take on what's going on with Todd Tucker and Candy's Not divorce, but his divorce movie that actually premiered this weekend in New York City. And, you know, somebody actually attended. And we're going to talk about what this person said.

But first, please help me welcome a new, okay, friend to the show. She's a friend in our lives as well.

We have special guest Dominique Morgan joining us along with our mainstays, y'all faves, Claudia and Dustin.

Hello. Welcome, Dominique.

Hello, hello, hello. Thank you. What's up, Dominique? What's up, Claudia? What's up, Lois?

Hey, y'all. How's it going?

Welcome, y'all.

Dominique Morgan. Yes.

I got a brand new girdle out the pack for this.

Oh.

Bitch, I got to bring out the silks, honey. You know, Carlos is going dirty. Dustin has the newest, most fresh-fitted caps.

Don't even try it, Dominique.

We've shot, what, once or twice in the last week. I know you keep a silk piece.

And....

And a cat in your lap, sister.

So, yes.

There's pussy galore over here.

God bless the children. You're not going to get me caught up already with these comments on this show.

Dominique, you've been with me a couple times, so you already know how to get down. You know my mouth is low-ranking.

I ain't never did live to tape with you, sister, so I'm just going to buckle up.

Claudia, I done heard a double-fisted, but.

Oh, yeah.

We love a double fist.

We have a jam-packed show, so let's get right into it. Once again, we're discussing Savannah James, First Class Problems, Da Vinci debacle, the actor who says some things about Americans. We got our friends of the show, Ebony K. Williams, discussing Todd Tucker's divorce movie. But first, let's get into Savannah James. Okay, so Savannah James, as you all know, she is the beautiful wife NBA legend LeBron James, who is, according to Forbes, a billionaire.

Okay.

Savannah and LeBron have been together since they were high school sweethearts. They had three kids together. And Savannah was always behind the scenes. You know, this doting wife and mother who, you know, was supporting her husband on the court. Now, the court of public opinion says, has Savannah James in the leagues when it comes to her commentary with her best friend, April Daniels. They have a podcast together, and they've been doing a lot of press together. Long story short, April mentioned how there was one incident as Savannah was talking about the dynamic of their friendship. and what it's like to have friends with people who may not be on the same monetary level as you. And Savannah mentioned how,

you know, listen, it's sometimes challenging with other friends, but she feels like she has a great group to where if she wants to plan a trip, it's not an issue based on where they're going, the cost of the ticket, and where they're staying. April chimed in and said one example of how She remembers them going on a trip.

She was in business class.

And how Savannah was in first class. And she mentioned that they were going on a trip together on the same flight. And April left business class and snuggled up to Savannah in first class to watch a movie. Now, social media went crazy because they felt like Savannah was You are the wife of a billionaire. Why aren't you paying for an upgrade or a first-class ticket for your best friend if you are traveling to the same location?

This has divided social media. I want to start with you first, Dustin. A lot of people are calling out Savannah.

There's tons of funny memes.

We like a good joke. Our friend on Twitter, it's Kerry, has been posting tons of videos. about this topic. I find it to be funny, but I also find it to be a topic to where it really.

Does showcase friendships.

So, Dustin, do you agree with the majority of the people online who are saying that Savannah James is dead-ass wrong?

No, I don't. If it's me, I'm a generous friend. You know what I'm saying? I love... People gave Drake a lot of flack last week when he talked about quote-unquote tricking. But he was saying how he loves seeing joy on the faces of his loved ones. And I can relate to that. I also believe that experiences and memories are what life is all about. So if I can provide and facilitate the best time that I can for my friends and loved ones, that's what I'm going to do. Whether that's paying for dinner, whether that's paying for them to have a travel experience that is elevated, if I can afford that, I'm going to do that.

But that's me being generous. I don't think it's an obligation, right? That's just the kind of nigga I am. In her friend's case, I think that ego plays a lot of part here, plays a big part here, rather, in the response we've gotten from people and money. Motherfuckers are broke. We all are broke and struggling. Everybody's trying to do the best they can. And so money is very valuable to people that have never had it. And you think that when other people have it, there is this magical access pass that does kind of exist, but it doesn't equate to And I think that's the line that's being crossed in some of the commentary here. The plane going the same place. You know what I'm saying? They both getting off at the same stop on the plane. So

who cares where you sit? Now, if I'm in first class and my friend is with me who I know cannot afford first class and isn't making a choice not to spend the money to fly first class or deserves the experience of that luxury and shit, of course I would do it. I'm just that type of person. But everybody's not like that and everybody doesn't have to be.

So I think that we should be grateful when people are, show some humility and adjust our expectations because Savannah James is married to a billionaire. She's not the billionaire. So we don't know what kind of financial arrangement her and LeBron have. We don't know any of that. So before we spend other people's money, we need to exercise a little humility and gratitude. Again, I would have put my friend in first class But I don't think Savannah James is wrong for not putting her friend in first class.

Okay. Claudia Jordan, what are your thoughts on this?

I agree. You're not entitled to me and my husband's because I'm married to this guy. Now, when it's an obligation, it feels like I'm being forced to do it. But if she wants to, I think it's beautiful for her to do that. Special occasions, your birthday, I got you. I would probably do that. But it seems like this is one of her closest friends, so they probably do a lot of trips together. So every time we go somewhere, I got to put you in first class. And the friend, I can see if I'm in first class and my friend's in 36B in a middle seat by the toilet.

I'm going to see what I can do about that. But your friend was in business class where it was totally fine. Um, and, and all these people to comments, like just wanting to spend Savannah and LeBron's money. Um, uh, I think it's made to sound a lot worse than it was. Like at first, my first story, it did sound like a first class slash coach thing, but first class slash business. One of my friends, one of my closest friends, Andy, she always wants to go first class.

I don't want to be going first class cause I don't want to pay for it.

I don't.

And I would not be mad if she was like, I'm in first class. And I'm like, well, I'm going to be back here. And guess what I'm going to spend my extra $ 1, 000 on when we land? Pina coladas and gambling.

Yeah.

But if you, you know what I'm saying? If you want to upgrade me, you don't have to. You're not obligated. If you want to, great gesture. But when people start feeling like an obligation to your money, F out of here. No. But now if, like I said this before, I think I accidentally informed. Now, if LeBron messes up, then you take that credit card and you run it up and you take all your friends. on Delta One to Dubai, you go to Europe, you go to Fashion Weekend, you run it up. But in peaceful times, nah, no.

Okay. Dominique Morgan, what are your thoughts on this particular topic?

Is Savannah James in the wrong for not upgrading her best friend from business class to first class?

I think labeling it as in the wrong is... is what is activating people.

Because I think saying what is right and what is wrong, I think that's where it gets kind of fucked up. And however, I wrote about this on my sub-sack. I think that one, the details in this instance with April matters to me, which it was like 15 years ago. because people brought up april's access today it was like 15 years ago savannah had told invited them on a trip to japan they weren't going from atlanta to new york they were going to japan And if you were happy, well, why didn't you keep your ass back there instead of coming up into my suite and watch the movie with me, niece, if that's where you wanted to be? And that gives me an indication you knew you couldn't get your whole life. Now,

that being said, the entitlement label, I think, is important. No one is entitled to anything. And I would like to add a tinge of context from maybe it feels a little bit activist-y, but one, she's been with him since they were kids.

Mm-hmm.

We spend our days talking about if a girl gets a text message from a guy and he asks her on a date, she better get her comeuppance for that mere exchange. You've birthed his children. You've given him a namesake that is now in the NBA as well. If you don't have 10% of $ 1. 4 billion, which will be okay, then that doesn't make sense to me. But on a bigger scale, when we talk about relationship, we've been talking about today about interracial relationships and what does that look like with power dynamics. I think inter-financial relationships are important to think about as well. So if I do choose to make you my closest friend, like we're not talking about acquaintances, we're not talking about randoms, we're talking about

people that you've now gone into business with. How do you navigate the inequities of society when you are a have and they're essentially a have not? Not that you have to, But that's something that I think about if because when Savannah was like, they understand my situation. I'm like, so you talking like you got eviction notice or something like that.

Like I did. The context concerned me.

But I think in a bigger space and like Claudia, you and your friend, I'm like, there's a difference between like, girl, you want to spend your money on that.

I'm going to spend my money on this. And compared to. One point four billion dollars, a lot of money. A lot of money.

And also business class is not all that. Why are y'all acting like business class is comparable? There might be a little extra nuts. You might have a little extra leg room.

It's comfort plus.

Boots.

I don't know why everybody is making it seem like it's a sick thing said. And again, those are the things that our opinions are based on. But what I have been sitting with is if you choose to stay in relationship with people who exist in a far different financial bracket than you, not that you're required, how do you manifest equity in your relationship? And how do you experience life when you can go close out the restaurant?

And this person, you may have to wait until their payday. And that's something I think about as someone who sits in kind of the middle space of access. I have friends who have far more than me and far less than me. But we really got to be thoughtful of who we build deep bonds with, especially in this time with money. Yeah.

Yes, and I want to add this.

Thank you, Dominique, for adding the context of when it happened, the timeline, and the location, because I do think once you have all the information, it.

Does help serve this particular argument. I will say this.

You know, I looked at the situation like we all did and said, listen, she wasn't in the Mia Thorne section of the plane, you know.

Excuse me?

Wait, wait, wait.

What?

He wasn't aware now.

You know, if you watch Potomac, Gisele Bryant alleged that Mia Thornton was at the back of the plane.

The back.

Was Bobby Valentino with her?

Did she steal the plane seats too? Not too much.

Not too much on Mia.

I like her.

Are they still together?

We are not talking about Mia and Bobby.

He keep getting her facial feminization surgery so she can look like a tranny, honey.

They better stay together. It's a fool.

I thought you was on Behave, Dominique. You lied. I love it. Thank you.

I can't be up here with Claudia. I'm sorry.

Well, come on to the dark side. Yes.

The comments said the Rosa Parks section. So we got the Rosa Parks section and the Mia Thornton section. So April was not in the Mia Thornton section, allegedly, right? The back of the plane where Giselle alleged that Mia was there. Business class is comfortable. However, is it first class? No, but it's a good class. He was in the middle of the seat in the back of the plane by the bathroom, child.

I do think this. I do think this. I do think this.

And I think this is something that we all can either relate to personally or know someone in our lives who have this dilemma.

It is a.

Very strange feeling when you have a friend group and you make a lot of money. And your friends may not make as much as you, less than half of you or nothing at all.

It is a very strange dynamic.

Tell us about it, Carlos.

You tell us about it.

I'm wearing sheen. What you talking about?

I'm wearing aloe.

This was $ 698. Okay, your outfit was like $ 300. Your shirt.

Carlos is a Libra. That's why Carlos don't fuck with nobody like that.

Oh.

Yeah, come on.

It took two years of building a relationship with Madison the Libra as well. It took two years. And I literally was like, I don't ever want you to buy anything from... I was like, I need to show you all I want to do is be around you.

Yeah.

Right?

And that's what I meant by... Not only the person in the financial privilege... if you want to be in relationship with people who have more of a financial privilege and you really want it to be sincere.

You got to do the work.

So April had to, cause this was, there's a, they talked about it on their podcast first. The followup recently is on a mental health podcast. They were talking about and promoting their podcast. I wish they would have dug into why not just for Savannah, but April, were you trying to show her, you know what I'm saying? Like, girl, I don't, I don't want to extract from you.

Do you see what I'm saying?

Yeah. It could have been a gesture of her even sitting there in the first place. I also think if we really zoom out, everybody needs to grow the fuck up. Like I said the first time, the plane is going to the exact same place. All of this shit about where you sit on the plane is about your preference, right?

People sit in first class to have more room, be more comfortable. I be wanting to stretch out. When I get to the airport, I just smoke. I'm ready to lay down anyway. You know what I'm saying? So there's reasons why people sit where they sit. But there is no shame attached to sitting in the back of an airplane.

And I think that's what people really need to come up off of. Judging people over where they sit on a fucking airplane is really immature and ridiculous. That's the bigger conversation here. You know what I'm saying?

It is.

You're going the same damn place.

I'm actually about the destination when we get there. I mean, certain things I won't skip on, like the food and the experiences and stuff like that. I'm going to probably be asleep on the plane.

I am.

Now, I don't want to be in no middle seat between two big people.

I don't want to be in no middle seat.

You know the only way to control that?

First class.

Hello.

Well, next time Carlos flies me in for an appearance and I'll make sure.

It's first class. Oh, here we go.

The girls don't want to buy their second seat. It'll be a mess.

I'm sorry.

But I do think this. I do think I've seen.

a lot of mean things about Savannah being said when it comes to this.

And she's such a sweet woman. She doesn't deserve... Listen, I'm also.

Of the school of the moment you become a public figure and you say things, you have to accept the fact that people are allowed to talk about it.

Yeah, the scrutiny.

The scrutiny of it. What I will say is this.

What I do find fascinating, just me, is the choice she made to even have a podcast.

And to even.

Now have the world know more about her, I do sometimes wonder if she regrets opening up her private life so much because now people are talking about Savannah in a negative light and that was something that no one ever did.

You know why, Carlos? Yes. You know why, brother? Because they've been one too. Savannah James is a rich, beautiful Black woman who stayed out the way and out the drama. Rumors be damned. You know what I'm saying? Her and LeBron are still together. They have successfully raised their kids or whatever. And people have been waiting for a hole to be poked in that. Savannah kind of opened the door and gave them an entryway with the podcast. And I don't know how she feels about that. Maybe she needed that outlet, right? But I believe these are feelings that people have been harboring for a very long time when it comes to Savannah James, purely of being haters.

Because Savannah is up and she been up. And she's done nothing but improve and ascend since we've been introduced to her. She's only gotten better and better. Unfortunately, we live in a world where people will hate on that. And I believe that contributes largely to the discourse that we witness in right now about a goddamn plane seat.

I'm going to tell you right now, when it comes to women, especially in media or personalities, when you don't speak and have zero opinion or they don't know your opinion, all they have is how you look and how you dress. The love comes so freely and so generously. The moment you have an opinion and you give them something, they will find a reason to dislike you. I remember how much people used to love Amber Rose. And not that she doesn't say unproblematic. things because she does.

Yeah, I was about to say. I was about to say.

She dug that grave with fire.

She gave it to them.

Well, okay. Yeah, now, right? But remember she first had a talk show? It was like on V.

Yeah, Dr. Phil produced it.

So she wasn't very problematic when she first came out with those times. It was after that when she started saying all the goofy shit and turned MAGA and all the other nonsense, right? And white woman shit. But she may be an extreme example. Let me maybe pick someone else. But I'm just saying, the more you have opinions as a woman, the more you're going to get... This is the beginning. And they better leave Savannah alone because she has every right to speak on her lived experiences just like anybody else without being crucified for... Because she just happens to have a very blessed life. It ain't like she just rolled up on someone. She's been down shooting in the gym for a very long time with him.

This is Reality with the King, and I'm Carlos King. Let's get back into the show.

We need to get better at disagreeing or not agreeing on a topic and not making that the whole definition of what a person is. We suck at that, and we throw Black women away very quickly. I also feel like Carlos, when you said this, it kind of hit me. I think so many of the girls who are legacy girls in regards to being in the league with husbands, they watch the Juanita Jordan of it all.

And those kids are almost all out the house. I think it's great.

I think she needs to not pull away, but get a better team that helps prepare her.

Because I think if they would have.

Went on this podcast and the conversation had evolved from their podcast to this new conversation... People would have been open. It's the same thing they said like a year ago. So it doesn't feel like they've processed anything. I think she has a beauty brand that she's launching as well. I think I saw something. She has some partners. So I would say she's beautiful. Her hair color is the color I sent to my hairstylist last week.

Fab.

And yeah, I think we should be able to critique. black folks and not tear them apart.

Agreed. We do want to get better at that. It's either black, but black folks, we are the people, we are zero or a hundred. We don't really be halfway, right? We like, we fucked with you. Oh, we hate you. Like, why can't it be like, I don't hate you, but I don't agree with you.

I didn't like what you did or said. You know what I mean?

Yeah.

But to me, it depends on what they do or say. Cause some motherfuckers like it's one and done. It's just, it's, it's, it's case specific for me.

Yeah.

I agree.

Yeah.

All right.

I hate a motherfucker.

You said what?

I reserve my right to hate and be a motherfucker. You know what I'm saying?

Well, some people deserve it, but not for a different... Yeah, like, you know, like, you know who I can't stand from reality TV. Begins with a O.

So, let's move on to the next topic. Claudia, please!

Oh, God.

All right. So, second topic of the day. We have to get into the actor, Da Vinci.

A lot of you guys may know him due to his Starring role in 50 Cent executive produced show BMF that unfortunately got canceled last season. But he is now currently starring in Chicago Fire that's coming out. And he's also starring in a Tyler Perry movie, not movie, series as well. So he was on Cam Newton's.

Podcast.

And he's catching a lot of heat due to a few things he had to say when it comes to the criticism of American work ethic.

He stated that Americans have been lazy. These are his words.

Americans have been lazy and incompetent for a really long time, contrasting modern American culture with his Haitian upbringing.

He also expressed.

And weighed in on the contentious ongoing perception surrounding how some Caribbean Americans view black Americans as well. He is receiving a lot of backlash for this in regards to his thoughts on it. Dominique, starting with you, what are your thoughts on the things Da Vinci has said in regards to referring to Americans as lazy and incompetent?

And also I want.

To add, he did mention that he understood why some producers look for actors overseas because of the work ethic.

Of course, highlighting why he thinks Americans are lazy.

As someone who was born and raised in Brooklyn, like, nah, didn't come over here like in his teens. So I, first of all, as a educator and a person who digs into the science of people, I saw the clip and then everyone was like, y'all don't know what y'all are saying because you're only going off of a clip.

I'm like, okay, great.

So I spent the weekend. I not only looked at the full interview, I reviewed seven interviews of Da Vinci from May 16, 2023 until the most recent one. Almost seven hours of interviews and almost 80,000 words in the transcription that I cross-referenced to pull out. I needed to aggregate this because I'm like, are y'all making... I know I'm not a dummy bitch like this. It just can't be.

And y'all are saying, talking to me like I'm a dummy bitch. And they were stuck on these things. He said American. He didn't say African-Americans. You are on a show talking to Cam Newton, who exclusively, I think, on Funky Friday has interviewed black folks or folks of color. Maybe Gary Owen has walked through there or something like that.

But on average, this is a space that's curated by a African-American man that has an audience of African-American folks. You became known for being on shows that are clearly centered in the African-American experience. You are not someone that people go to to be a patronage to talk about a mainstream conversation of American experience. If they're asking you to come someplace, they're asking you to go to the Essence Festival. They're asking you to go to Culture Con.

So let's stop acting like that. So he didn't say African-Americans, but I do not think that he was speaking with a idea.

Of all Americans, too.

I found a through line of these conversations he's had where his experience, which we can't negate his experience, I think it's crappy that you had to run a whole household at seven and eight years old. And I think it's absurd for you to think that African-American young people don't go through the same thing, right? This idea that within a marginalized community, you have to make us feel like we're less than for you to be validated when all Blackness is important. And I'm from Omaha, Nebraska. I didn't grow up with the diaspora conversation. Like, I still be like, okay, why are the girls angry with each other?

And at the end of the day, I feel like DaVinci showed up in a very anti-Black way. And I think he did not do service to his Haitian community because he put them in the middle of this conversation where people who are being xenophobic, people who do want to engage in a diaspora war, found a reason to do that. Last but not least, he had an hour and some change talking with Cam Newton, and he talked about what the Haitian community experienced, but he didn't talk about TPS removal. He didn't talk about how there are entire throngs of Haitian people who are no longer safe.

The young man who walked into traffic and killed himself, unalived himself a few weeks ago due to being put on an anchor monitor.

So I.

I really want people to listen to his interview. I want us to not act obtuse about the specificity of language to think about who we're hearing from. And last but not least, how many times can Da Vinci talk about and be online advocating for the ability to date outside of his race and not be a barrier to him and align himself with whiteness before people respect who he is and what his values are? You just said, Carlos, like, oh, people don't give people opportunities to make mistakes. Across platforms, they're making excuses for Da Vinci everywhere. Oh, he didn't know what he was saying. Oh, we need to give him grace. We need to give him support. You're going into the Dick Wolf universe, and I understand that is

a very white-centered space, but you built a platform on Black people, specifically a story about an African-American man who was put into the carceral state and had to survive it.

And I think that's disingenuous as hell.

Claudia Jordan?

Thank you for doing all that research that I did not. Um, but from what you're saying and what we've seen here and what little I've heard, I haven't heard much about him, uh, in, in what I look at online, but I'm tired of this kind of narrative from black people and like this, this wedge between like black American, African Americans and Caribbean, black American blacks. And it, it, I don't know what the goal is with this. I really don't. I don't know what the goal of this is. Um, Dominique, you touched on a lot of things, like a lot of black people, African-Americans have gone through similar experiences. And I don't know about grouping everybody into this big, bad pot of lazy black niggas in America. And then not unlike

us in the Caribbean, we work so much harder. You can find bad apples and lazy MFs right in Jamaica, right in Haiti, right in the Caribbean, right in Aruba, right anywhere, okay? So that's a little bit irritating. Isn't that kind of what white people do to us? Ain't that what they do to us and just want to put us all in one batch, one box, one bad batch of black folks? So I don't know. I just feel like I don't like that a lot of Let me not say that. I don't like that I've seen enough...

black men and some women in media where they're getting this attention from negative commentary on us as a whole. And it gets attention because when a black man says it, oh, look, look, and it resonates. It does numbers. And I'm kind of sick of it. And it just seems... I don't know what the point of it is. I really don't. I don't.

And thank you for doing the seven hours of research that I don't want to watch, but maybe I should.

Should I?

Was it interesting?

I put everything together on my sub stack and I put all the transcripts up there and I coded all of the information because also I think in this media age, people are struggling with understanding context clues.

Yes, we are.

Everyone has a podcast, everybody has a platform, but people are not reading. And so I literally pulled everything and put it online because I'm just like, okay, if y'all want to talk about this, really read what this man is saying.

Be informed.

Be informed.

Well, the average, I mean, especially with like our short attention spans collectively as a society now, remember when we used to be able to watch long form interviews and stuff online and it just went from That to one minute to 15 seconds to a headline. So it's easy to have these be, to be rage baited over these things.

So thank you for doing the work that, you know, I did not do.

As a former journalist, so you say.

Well, do I need to really do a report on Da Vinci? I'm more a political girl.

I did say that I didn't say that.

She knows I'm messing with her. Dustin, what are your thoughts on what he said? Do you think people are reacting to what he said? Or based on even what his best friend said, I want to add this to you, Dustin. Obviously, Dominique and Claudia chime in, too. So, Chris, put up a comment from a former friend of Da Vinci who also had something to say about his comments.

And I want to be able... to read that.

For you guys as well before Dustin responds because his friend is saying that this is pretty much Da Vinci's character and who he is. So let me get the actual quote from his friend.

But Dustin, while I get that, let me know what you think about what.

He said first. Yeah, so Da Vinci, I think, is 30 years old now. and he's a really, really talented actor, man. I saw him on stage in Candy's play, what was it called? Thoughts of a Colored Man. I thought he was great on BMF, which is a story that was important to me as a Michigan native. Carlos, you a Detroiter, you know the story of Big Meats. That was important to us, so I was really excited about that show.

And I think that this is a lesson later in life that Da Vinci needed to learn. I think the discourse surrounding his comments on Cam Newton's show, who, by the way, Cam Newton looks like they shot his clothes on him out of cannon. Every time you see him, they look like they loaded up a cannon with a whole bunch of clothes and pieces and just shot him out.

And he just stood out and let the clothes fly on him like that.

Like no rhyme or reason?

No, I mean literally loaded into a cannon, shot out and placed on his body that way. Now, also, I think that this was a lesson that Da Vinci needed to learn. And this is what it looked like. And at this stage in his life for him to understand that he misunderstood black Americans, being a black American himself, black Haitian American, he misunderstood that. I also think that he needed to learn that he was parent, because in the readings, and I want to be clear, the reason that I think he needed to learn these lessons is because they were in the way of a very promising trajectory for him as a thespian, as an actor. So he needed to get this shit out the way, right?

He needs to understand that he had black Americans fucked up. He needs to understand that he was parroting and repeating MAGA talking points, white Christian nationalist talking points about black Americans. And I hope he doesn't want to align himself with those things. I hope he wasn't doing that unknowingly, but this is a way he can learn that lesson. And I think he also needs to understand how to better maximize his time in the media, doing interviews and speaking to the public. Talk about important shit. He's very proud of his Haitian heritage, so why not speak on, like Dominique said, the plight of Haitian Americans? Why not speak on Donald Trump calling Haiti a shithole country? We can take it all the way back. You know what I mean?

There's so many other ways that Da Vinci could maximize and best use his time in the media, which I'm sure he'll have more of, because again, He's a gifted actor, and I want to see him do it more. We need him more as an actor, right? But while he's out there on the main stage in the media, utilize your time spent better, brother, and maybe this is a way that he can learn that, right? Sometimes you have to learn lessons the hard way. It's a lot of very important conversations going on right now surrounding his comments, and people are researching what he said. Dominique, The consummate professional that she is just sat here and told y'all that she watched over seven hours worth of interviews before

offering an opinion on what he said. Inform yourself the same way Dominique did, DaVinci. Now's your chance to really turn this around. Make statements that convey a more clear understanding of what you misspoke on. Make statements that convey an acknowledgement of the hurt that that may have caused.

and keep acting your ass off in projects so that we can celebrate you and uplift you the way that we should and focus on the acting. If we zoom out right now, we got way bigger fish. This conversation is about Black Americans, Haitian Americans, both of whom have way bigger fish to fry than what this brother thinks about anything, to be honest with you, but definitely about whether or not Black Americans are lazy. Much bigger fish to fry. He's got a lot of visibility, and I really hope that he learns from this moving forward and that we get to see him in more projects.

Especially right now with all the stuff that Haiti's in the news for right now. He definitely could have used his platform for kind of shining a light on that. Y'all got a whole issue with the Dominican Republic right now shunning you guys and trying to stop your athletes from even performing there and competing. There's a whole bunch of stuff going on.

And that's generations deep, that beef you're speaking of, Claudia. That is ages old. So again, much more things that he could focus on. That's all.

Yeah, like you said, he's actually a great actor. I was a big fan of BMF. I'm from Detroit.

I'm very familiar with that whole family.

And I thought he did an incredible job as an actor.

His friend named Brandon, just to add context to it, these are alleged things he has said about his friend, his former friend Da Vinci. His name is Brandon Brown, who claims that Da Vinci allegedly would try to separate his personal brand from his black identity, frequently saying, I'm not black, I'm OJ.

He didn't say that, guys.

He said- I have the transcript from the friend too.

All right. So I'm going to start with you, Dominique. He's alleging that Da Vinci said, I'm not black, I'm Haitian. He alleged that Da Vinci explicitly stated that he did not want to wear a t-shirt with the word black on it.

Because he wanted to move away.

From the black thing. He's alleging that Da Vinci did not want to date black women.

Okay.

It was a whole thing. So listen, these are things he's alleging.

It's one of those things where, listen, when something comes out, there is this trend of a pile on that happens because it's an opportunity to put your name out there when people don't know who you are. I'm not saying what Brandon Brown is saying is true or not. The information has not been verified yet.

But these are accusations he has said.

So I did, I looked at Brandon's career. He is doing pretty well.

The only reason he wasn't on the new evolution of A Different World is because he didn't live in Atlanta. So like people are hiring him, working with him. I watched the video and in the video, he does allege that it was, Brandon was starting a clothing line. And so Brandon is a photographer. You know, he does all sorts of visual arts on top of being a actor.

And so he would do Da Vinci's head shots on and so forth in the pandemic. Brandon started a clothing line of like vegan is black or black like vegan or something like that. Da Vinci allegedly has him come over and take the pictures as he's on the way home. Da Vinci allegedly calls and says, hey, my team doesn't want me doing the black thing. Now, Brandon did post the picture of Da Vinci in the T-shirt in the video. Also, when you look at their videos on TikTok where Da Vinci used to be on live. debating with Black women about his right to date outside of his race, how Black men are being persecuted for dating white women. And so when you extrapolate the words out of his mouth with the statements from his friend, where you can look

at some of these pictures, I think that's where we can't say it's complete evidence, but when I talk about pulling things together, you.

Can present a vision.

And to what Dustin said, when you have opportunities to speak to a Cam Newton, to speak, he, you know, my seven interviews was a shade room interview. I, where he sat down with another person who is black, but not African-American. So I want to see how you spoke to people from his community, lip service with Angela Yee.

How does he talk when he's in a room full of women that are light skin that are his preference closer to whiteness? How does he, he sat down with the sister from sisters. He sat down with Ricky, who the, the, the comedian, the, the church guy, Ricky Smiley. Ricky Smiley, he sat down with the two guys from Power, the young boys who have the podcast from Power.

Yeah, Michael Rainey.

Right.

So I want to see how you spoke to different communities and it stayed the same. So I just feel like we shouldn't throw anybody away. I also want to say this as someone who's new to the diaspora conversation. We should hold him accountable to his statements and not make his statements the statements of an entire.

Community of people.

Yes. Yes.

Because I am flabbergasted the number of Haitian people who have inboxed me and like thanking me for like comprehending that.

He doesn't speak for everybody. Like I was like, oh, like that's not normal.

But I think that takes away from us being able to challenge him, which is what Dustin was pointing to of this is his chance.

To be like.

I fucked up.

You know what?

Let me sit with it. And even if.

You just going to just be better about not saying dumb stuff, maybe you going to want to hunt. You love a Quincy Jones set. You love hunting on a wife. Work your set. That lady sacrificed her life for that loving law.

Work it.

Get your life.

Have all your pieces.

But you, greater levels, greater devils, like the girls want these huge careers and y'all don't want to get a team. And so either learn, either figure out how to speak better or get a team that can prepare you to do so because I don't think you're going to get many chances.

I agree.

Listen, and this is me speaking as the host of Reality with a King podcast.

That interviews people.

But I do think what the three of you are saying that I could not agree with more is is when you put yourself out there, just make sure you have the right team around you so that I could have lived my life not knowing this.

That's how I feel.

You know what I'm saying? This is not making me want to watch the successful career he has, and I don't understand why this was even a necessary topic. Now, granted, listen, we're talking about it only because it's out there, but I do think If you're going to put yourself out there, make it meaningful first.

And I just want to dig a little bit deeper into the team conversation because I don't want to absolve him. And I'm not suggesting that you, Dominique, or you, Carlos, are trying to do this with your commentary. But I don't want to absolve Da Vinci of any accountability in what he spoke about because what he spoke on were feelings, his feelings, his opinions, and his perspectives. And so... And also, as a 30-year-old man who claims to have such strong feelings that are related to race and related to... It's also a Libra. Yeah, and I don't know nothing about that.

But being a Libra, too, damn it, because I trust that you're right, Dominique. You know your shit. So being a Libra, too, I just think he should know he should be more media savvy as somebody who he should value his work and his career more than to speak carelessly about in those spaces and in his quest to not speak carelessly, he should really pursue a true understanding, pursue rather a true understanding. Like he's got to get better.

This ain't really about a team telling somebody don't ask him this and don't ask him that. He needs to understand that he's on a world stage as an actor, as a thespian. You want your work to reach all around the world. That means all kinds of people. You know what I'm saying? I just think he, The problem is he needs to look within in order to move forward.

That's what I think.

When I used to host Out Loud with Claudia Jordan, it was like they would find me actors. Especially during COVID, right? The producers would find my guests, right? I didn't have that much of a hand in it. And sometimes they would book a lot of actors that were promoting TV shows, right? My least favorite interviews were male actors, right? And I feel like, especially the ones that were eye candy, I know this is going to sound a little surface, but it's okay. I'll own that. A lot of times, sometimes they would come on here. And they would just talk and talk and talk and thinking the more they talk, the deeper they sounded and the way they were taking the focus off of their looks, right? It was about like,

I'm deep. I used to call it fake deep. I'm like, can you please stop sending me these fake deep brothers? Because I would cringe doing these interviews. Sometimes there is an option, you guys, of just shutting the fuck up. Like you don't have to say these things. You can sometimes just talk about your project if you're not going to say something of note or that's good or if it's an area that you're weak in. several areas that I'm weak in, guess what I do? Shut up. Don't say anything. Let everybody else talk. Let them say their piece.

And you avoid a lot of missteps when you do that. You know what I mean? And maybe you got a homeboy you can run things by. Hey, what do you think if I talk about this? I don't really fuck a black woman, but I'm about to go on this show where the audience is 99.9% black. You think I should say this part? Your boy might say, hey, dog, not too much. Sometimes they're even that deep. Sometimes it's as simple as, Shutting the fuck up.

And that's that. All right. Hey, all right. I love the sound effect now. On to our next topic. Friend to the show, Ebony K.

Williams was on a podcast recently and had some very choice words about Todd Tucker, who had a movie premiere for his series about his divorce with Candy. And these are some things that Ebony K.

Williams says. We're going to play it for you guys so y'all could hear it from her mouth.

I'm more concerned with Todd and Todd in a very particular and predictable way, leveraging his relationship and proximity to his extremely famous and rich wife, Candy, into now what is a secondary career for him.

And who do I blame? I blame Kandi.

See, this is why in my world, highly visible women who have built platforms from scratch is a multi, multi, multi, multi Grammy award winning, multi, multi, multi millionaire. You pick this little Negro and ain't nobody mad at the pig. But then you platformed him. Look at Stephen A looking disgruntled.

Why is his back like that?

I'm so glad y'all left that part in. Look at Stephen A looking disgruntled.

Can I just say this?

Y'all could never make me hate FDK Williams. The one thing I love about her, and there's actually several things. I love the way she speaks because she has the ability with her voice to make you hold court, pun intended. And you listen because she speaks with such fire and passion and intensity.

And authority.

Thank you. Thank you.

And authority that I can literally watch this woman talk all day long.

And Ebony, I love you. And that's why we did stuff together. And we'll continue to. But Ebony says some very strong things.

Me, Claudia, Dustin, and Mandy have a show on my Patreon called Reality of the Dark. And on every other Friday, Freaky Fridays, shameless plug, but Dominique, on that show, I did mention how Ebony is known, obviously, for saying something that people took as controversial, which is she doesn't want to date the bus driver.

She has no interest.

When Candy and Todd was going through their divorce and custodial battle, she said on my platform, this is the reason why I said I'm not dating the bus driver.

They were so mad.

They were angry.

She said, based on what Todd was doing with wanting full custody, she said, in no way, shape, or form am I going to date a man who makes less than me when society has positioned men to out-earn their female counterparties. She said, I'm already losing starting that. And then to add insult to injury, you want to take my baby that I gave birth to and want full custody of this?

No.

And she said that's the reason why as a woman, she decided to have her beautiful baby Liberty the way she wanted to because no man was going to enter her life even threatening to take custody away from her.

Claudia, I want to start with you on this. What are your thoughts, although I may know, What are your thoughts on.

What Ebony said in terms of, you know, listen, she said, listen, Love Candy, I gotta blame you. You platformed this individual and you pretty much can't be mad at what he's doing.

I agree that she can't be mad at what he's doing because he, listen, he has a right to talk about his side of the story. You know, I always rock for the ladies and I love me some Ebony. She did platform him and, you know, whether you agree with them getting together or not, you know, that's on you, but He has a right to speak about his side of the story.

He does.

He does.

I'm not mad at him about that. I don't think he needs to just shut up and dribble.

I don't.

I don't think so. And Ebony is free to have that opinion of, hey, this is why I don't date this kind of guy because she's operating from a place where she's protecting herself. But I don't think, listen, I may not agree with everything he's doing or saying, but I don't think he needs to just shut up and not say anything. I don't like some, now we had some nuanced conversations about the threesome stuff and like his timing and how he chose to kind of weaponize it after the fact. It's one thing when you talk about it when we're in a good place, but it's another thing when you kind of drag it when we're not in a good place. I agree with that. I think that wasn't cool. But if he's just talking about his experience,

one thing, but don't start dragging the woman that gave you this platform. That's when I would have a major problem with it.

Dominique Morgan. Yeah, no.

I agree that he has the right to share his experience and his story. Earlier, I was just thinking about the responsibility of covering your partner and what does that look like in relationship. And oftentimes, people will discuss, like when we think about trad wives and stuff like that, where men will display.

Like if they don't love you, they don't know how to like you still.

And so you automatically become an enemy or someone who's on the opposite side. And I think that And I have not seen the movie. I think it just premiered this weekend, right? I saw some of the clips. But I remember what sat with me. And, of course, you're producing things. You want people to kind of be zoomed in and want to know more. Is that when Candy did talk about their sex life, we never got clear details about what Todd did and who Todd did it with.

Regardless of what the city of Atlanta says. It never came out of Candy's mouth. it was always more in a affirming way of talking about how they kept their relationship healthy, which everybody was in agreeance to it. It felt like this is being told in a way to sully Candy. And what I mean by that is I don't think Black women get to be sexually liberatory. And this is me talking as a former sex educator, you know, in the clinic and working in the classroom. And so I was surprised that when Candy shared it years ago that people gave her room to have the candy-coated nights.

That surprised me because I don't know about y'all, I don't know the last time there's been a Black woman with the level of celebrity that Candy has who walked into this sex conversation the way she did and it did.

Not deeply impact her.

And I think that's one of the reasons she is really angry about some of the things that happened on that show. But I think Todd can really show discretion. And I don't think that equates to silence. I think that equates to you'll win more. And if this is his desire, you'll win more people who fall in love with you as Todd Tucker if you demonstrate an ability to handle this well. Because this is how you break off from people saying you only have this because of candy.

This is your moment for someone to be like, oh, you know what? Todd really could have went in.

He didn't.

Let me look at the thing that he has going on. But from what Ebony said, 100%, like, Candy knew who she married. And I think going back to what I said about like in relationships that are that your systems are are not the same. So you knew you had money. He might have been successful, but you weren't equitably connected when it came to financial capital. You made that relationship and this is what comes with it. And I just hope that I hope that Todd just they have young children.

And I'm not concerned about the children hearing things. I'm concerned about the culture of the relationships. Because I think Kenny had another interview I saw today where she was talking. It might have been Ricky Smiley.

It was.

And she was, because Ricky was like, oh, y'all were on vacation. She was like, oh, that was a while. And, you know, Candy's a tourist. And once it's a chop, it's a chop. I'm thinking about Kenny's daughter talking about the strain with her relationship with Todd's daughter. But that's important. So it's not fair. But Todd is still the man of that family. And so how does he take that role while having the right to tell his story, while having the right to be a entrepreneur? He can show us who he is and he can gain his own fan base through these actions.

If he handles this right, he can have a way bigger fan base than he ever had. Like you're saying, if he handles it right, we could be like, you know what? I got nothing. No notes.

No notes.

Because you still... You can tell your side of the story without dragging or besmirching and selling up and dirtying candy because we all know you got to pick a platform because that's not even debatable.

And stop eating coochie to keep a man. It don't work like that, Nia. Oh, yeah.

I'm too lazy.

Same.

Well, we can talk about that, too.

But, Dustin, before we do, let me hear your thoughts on what Ebony K.

Williams said. It was the first time that I heard.

anybody say, okay, Candy, you have to own up to the fact that you play a role in this too, based on you marrying him and platforming him. Do you agree with Ebony when it comes to, should Candy take ownership based on what's happening right now?

Well, I agree with Ebony because what she said was not an opinion. It was an analysis. She mapped out what took place, right? She said this happened, then this happened, and here's why that happened. So I don't really feel like there was anything for me to disagree with. It was literally what took place. And also, y'all know me.

Y'all know Ebony. It's like family to me. She said what the fuck she said. You know what I'm saying? That's it. And that's just what it's going to be. I love Ebony. It's personal, and I'm biased. And I'm going to be honest about it, okay? It just is what it is. Now, I also agree wholeheartedly with Dominique's commentary because Todd has a great opportunity here. You have to look out, look at things. You have to take your emotions out of things sometimes, even though I just put mine all the way into the Ebony conversation, knowingly. Okay, I don't give a fuck. But sometimes you have to take your emotions out of a situation, especially as a father, especially in this patriarchal society that we live in. You know,

men are always having these conversations about banning the house, pay the bills, wanting my way, whatever. Well, this is how you show your fortitude as a leader and as a head of a household, by making decisions that reflect discretion, just like Dominique just said, and saying, hey, I could do it this way right now and be rightful and entitled to do it that way. But maybe if I do it differently, it can yield this outcome. Maybe if I do it differently, it can create an environment or a mood or a temperature that when we share space that doesn't lead to arguments and our kids looking at us like, why do my parents hate each other? You know, if I just do things this way, that's true leadership.

That's true headship. And that's the shit that all these motherfuckers say they want. So Todd has a great opportunity to do that. And I think it is also very important that we note that when Candy shared details, just like Dominique broke down, when Candy shared details about their sex life, it was, you know, and with a view to protect them both. And Todd is now offering glimpses into their private matters with a view that can be questioned, right?

And I think that's the difference here. So I agree with Ebony. I don't give a fuck. That's my girl. So just being honest, you know what I'm saying?

And also- I'm sure when Candy was speaking on their relationship and handling it with care, like giving you a glimpse, but not like putting everything in blasts, all the dirty details, that was when they were on the same roof and they were laying up together and probably had talks about it. Y'all ain't together now, so who knows what kind of level of communication you're allowing. Are you running this by, Candy, before you do this? I don't think you are. It's different.

It's different.

But I also think this. First of all, I agree. I do think.

It's a slippery slope because to me, They were both on the same reality show together. Yes, she was the housewife and he was the husband. He was not contracted by Bravo. He was not getting paid by Bravo.

They both said... And they had their own show?

And they had their own show, yes, exactly. They had their wedding special. They had Candy and the Gang, Candy Ski Trip. Candy is the queen of spinoffs at Bravo, right? Happy Black History Month, although it is October.

because Da Vinci has ruined it for the Libras. So, happy Blacktober, child.

Okay, so with that being said.

Damn, Da Vinci, we were celebrating doing good. We still got Usher. Now, with that being said, though, one thing that I really am.

Till this day, I really am having a hard time reconciling, like what Claudia said that I agree with, And you guys said the same thing. He does have every right to tell his story. He's a public figure. Yes, because he married Candy. These are facts.

Todd Tucker is famous because he married Candy. There's no dispute there.

Period. That's it. That's it.

This isn't a Beyonce, Jay-Z, Will Smith, Jada. This is strictly the facts, right? Because they both had these spinoffs together... And they both talked about their lives to where we saw Mama Joyce say the craziest things to Todd. We saw Todd's mother rest in heaven. and Candy's mom almost getting to blows. We've seen them both share very intimate details of their marriage. The only thing that I'm having a hard time grasping is I don't think he's dragging Candy, though.

That's the one thing. I don't think he's dragging.

her to the point where it's making her.

Look like something she's not.

That's the only thing I'm not computing with people.

I don't think he's dragging her, but I do think that I wish he would just wait a little bit because Candy, as a Taurus, she don't really be putting her feelings out there like that, but she has given us little glimpse that she's hurt.

By- We did a one-woman show, though.

That you had to lock your phone up at.

Did anybody go to the show?

He's talking to the media.

He starts immediately. She seems like she. When you're the one that got their heart broken in a breakup, allegedly what they was like cheating. Isn't that what the world on the street is? There was some cheating by Todd. And then you're out there talking. It's almost like, to me, it's different. If I cheated on you and then I also go out there and add salt to the wounds. And even if I'm not dragging you, but I'm still giving enough where I'm at. It's like I could see how Kanye would feel a way, and it comes across worse than maybe he's intending it to be, right?

He's probably thinking, oh, I'm just telling my story. But maybe just give the girl six months. Let y'all divorce kind of marinate for a minute. It's a lot to have to deal with. I lost my husband, my relationship, and I'm heartbroken still, and it hurts. And this is from someone that doesn't like to show their hand. And then on top of that, I got to hear little things and bits and pieces about my relationship. Almost downplaying a little bit, well, we add threesomes all the time. Like, okay, maybe, but can I heal a little bit? Do you really still care? I think, I don't know. I think that's maybe why some of us are feeling a little bit more protective about her in this. And I don't think he's dragging. He's probably just like, hey, this is my story.

But I guess I'm just thinking from the standpoint of Candy and what she's probably, what her process is right now.

I think we've all said that people don't handle Black women with care.

Because it's so used to being resilient.

So it's like, oh, you're going to be all right.

Kandi also, we know she's incredible.

But I also want to name that out of escape, people talk the most crap about her voice. She is the most deeper melanated woman within the group. Like, there's just things that we see. And again, none of this negates Todd's right. I think there's the right, and then it's like, what can you do?

And I think that that's maybe where he should sit his spirit at.

I think Kendi is a consummate businesswoman. And I just wonder, like Claudia said, if you took a little time, you took a beat and you came back and said, hey, you know, Kendi, I want to do this. I'm going to make this money. Maybe I get a little less spousal support. It ain't like you ain't got a coin.

It ain't like you got no money. And you still got these, you know what I'm saying? Like you are good.

But just take some time, Todd. Heal for yourself. You know what I'm saying? Like that's what I would want to see.

The only equalizer I would have is if Kandi talked about their sex life in her one-woman show, I'd be like, oh, you kind of set that up. But I don't know anyone who's been to the show because they always sell out.

You know why, Dominique? Because her show was one of those shows where you have to lock your phone up and nobody's really leaked any footage from the show. She hasn't talked publicly about what she shared in the show. And so that's why their disclosure essentially feels.

Different to me.

That's why it feels different.

I now have the aha moment that was missing. I had no idea that when she did her one woman show, she had the phones locked. And that's the reason why we never saw leaked footage because she protected from the world viewing it. And now what he's doing, she feels like you are not protecting me from the world viewing me.

Okay, I got that.

Yeah, even in breakups, she still found a way. She found a way to make her money and still protect him in some regards, and he's not. Okay. You know? I get it now. It's not very Libra-ish. It's like this.

Ah! The ballast can.

I now get it.

I now get it. I now get it.

I was always confused with, well, she did the one-woman show. Why can't he do the one-man show? But I now get it. She never put teasers out from her one-woman show. And the reason why, like Dominique said, who went to it? I'm like, I don't know who went to it because she locked the phone.

Okay.

Okay, now I get it.

I now have a greater understanding, all right? Raindrops, let me know if you also have the aha moment. Because the interesting thing about this too, guys, is it was divided. There's a lot of women who are on Todd's side. I mean, and no shade. I was surprised. Only because, you know, the bubble that I'm in when it comes to reality television is nobody cares what men think.

So I was surprised.

Yeah, as many pick me women are out there that always want to run to the defense of a brother. Please, I'm not surprised at all. Especially Candy is someone to be jealous about. She's rich, got a coin, doing a lot better than 90%, 99% of us. Yeah, I'm not surprised. I'm not surprised.

They can lead in a purity culture.

They feel like these are consequences for her to being sexually promiscuous in her marriage.

Not just hippie culture.

It's if you didn't, It's I'm on your side because you shouldn't have did that anyway. That is why purity culture is harmful.

And do you think too, I'm going to move on with this.

Do you also think it has to do with the fact that, listen, I always say this and people will be like, Carlos, what are you talking about?

I do believe privately because social media ain't the real world.

I believe that there's tons of black people who are really conservative and.

Based on how being raised in the South.

So another aha moment that I'm getting, this is why I love doing this show, is there's a lot of black women who are conservative.

Where you don't talk about sex.

The idea of bringing another woman to the bedroom is not something that black women were raised to even think was a possibility. Whether it's your preference or not, you know, one, I remember when Sissy Houston, the mother of, Whitney Houston when she spoke to Oprah Winfrey and Oprah Winfrey said there were rumors that her daughter Whitney Houston was gay would you have been okay with Whitney Houston being gay and she did this.

Oprah gagged and said you would have had a problem with your daughter being gay she said yes and Oprah said you would not have accepted that she goes.

No But your other son can have a drug problem and all these other things that are false equivalencies. But still, she wasn't publicly saying that. I just think that's why I always thought it was poetic that her name was Sissy.

Look at God.

God will do it. Won't he do it?

I am done.

Do y'all think because Candy is a black woman that is sexually liberated, that some, not all, but that the reason why some of Black women on Todd's side is because they are conservative in terms.

Of thinking that's what you get for allowing your man to even eat the cooch.

Yes.

Why are you divorcing him for cheating? You was already having three ways. At least you have a husband. You have these young kids. It's a scarcity model.

Yep.

You're already, in their mind, opening up your relationship.

They don't know the ethics of their non-monogamy or whatever is happening because Kenny.

Didn't give us those details.

And.

Then you left him because he cheated you. Already we're having sex with other women. That's not enough to leave. And so you had something that most of us don't get. You're throwing it away. And now he has the right to tell his story because if I hear him tell his story about how you weren't worthy, it'll make me feel like I'm worthy when that's not how the hierarchy really works.

Thank y'all so much. And you guys will catch us next Monday.
