Good morning, this is Send7, world news in 7 minutes. I'm Ben Mallett, today is Thursday, the 29th of October, 2026. Starting in Asia. In Israel, results from parliamentary elections this week show no party winning a majority of the vote, as of the time of recording, with 86% of votes counted. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's coalition is expected to win 53 of the 120 seats in parliament. This would not be enough for a majority, and so Netanyahu is expected to remain as Prime Minister for a caretaker government. Gadi Eizenkot leads an opposition coalition expected to win 48 seats in Parliament.

The majority of the remaining seats are expected to be won by Arab-Israeli parties. and so neither Eisenkot nor Netanyahu are likely to work with these groups to secure a majority. This election was Israel's first since the October 7th attacks by Hamas in 2023. In Cambodia, a cruise ship has left passengers stranded after being unable to afford fuel. The ship Villa V Odyssey offers passengers long-term or permanent rooms and can house 650 people. The ship had been cruising for 756 days when rising fuel costs became unaffordable, according to the company which owns the ship. Passengers were forced to disembark in Cambodia and have been told that the cruise will not continue. In India, Cyclone Arnab has killed

at least three people and damaged houses. 180,000 people were successfully evacuated before the storm arrived. The Americas Brazilian Senator Flavio Bolsonaro has landed in the United States days after losing Brazil's presidential election. Bolsonaro was ordered by the Supreme Court to surrender his passports due to an ongoing investigation into money laundering. Bolsonaro instead fled to Argentina, where he took a private plane to Ecuador and then the United States.

Bolsonaro's rival in the recent presidential elections, President Lula da Silva, said that Bolsonaro's exit from Brazil was shameful. Canada will make its debut in the Eurovision Song Contest held in 2027, according to contest organisers. At least 35 other countries will also participate in the contest. Ireland and the Netherlands will boycott the contest over the continuing participation of Israel. In the United States, A meeting of the United Nations General Assembly led to shouting between delegates from the US and Cuba.

The incident came before a non-binding vote on whether the US should end its economic embargo on Cuba. The US has maintained a trade embargo against Cuba for more than 60 years. Delegates voted in favour of an end to the embargo. Shouting began when the U.S. Ambassador Michael Waltz accused Cuba of building concentration camps under former leader Fidel Castro.

To my fellow ambassadors, do not hand Havana another propaganda victory. Don't lend your votes to the abuse of the Cuban people.

Mr.

President, this individual needs to back away from this podium. He's not going to intimidate me. Back up.

Africa. Tanzania has discovered a new reserve of natural gas, according to Energy Minister Juma Homera. This is Tanzania's first new natural gas discovery in more than 10 years. African delegates from 48 countries attended a two-day summit in Russia this week. The summit included a speech by Russian President Vladimir Putin. who said that Russia would be a better partner for African nations than colonial Western countries. Putin added that Russia has supplied 13 million metric tonnes of food and agricultural products to Africa this year so far. The Russia-Africa summit was first started in 2019. Europe In Spain, A collision between two high-speed trains has killed at least 68 people. Transport Minister Oscar Puente says that one train

had been incorrectly allowed to start moving, despite a red signal telling it to stop. The crash happened on a train line between the cities of Madrid and Seville. This is Spain's second deadly train accident this year. 46 people died in a crash in January, which happened on the same line as the collision yesterday. In Italy, a judge has ordered the release of a university researcher who had been accused by police of organising violent protests. Yousef Sihar, an Italian of Moroccan heritage, was arrested last week for his connection to the October 17 movement, Sihar denies committing any crimes, and Milan judge Tiziana Landoni says the investigation which charged Sihar was flawed. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Maloney

has called the judge's decision shameful. And also in Italy, some restaurants on the island of Sardinia are banning families from using smartphones at the dinner table. The At the Table Without Screens scheme will run for one month across 15 restaurants. Anna Cao, who is promoting the scheme, says that it is designed to encourage conversation within families and limit phone use by children. That's your World News in 7 minutes.
