Shownotes

Today's biggest winners and losers in the stock market.
On this episode of Stock Movers:
- Netflix (NFLX) shares are down 5.7% in extended trading, after the streaming-video company gave a revenue forecast that was weaker than expected, compounding concerns about its growth.
- SpaceX (SPCX) shares are up 4.2% in post market trading Tuesday after Elon Musk’s satellite, rocket and artificial intelligence conglomerate reported third-quarter revenue that was better than the average analyst estimate. The beat was driven by substantial growth in its artificial intelligence and satellite internet businesses.
- General Motors (GM) shares fell as shareholders focused on a narrower profit outlook due to sliding sales and inflation, despite plans for another $20 billion in stock repurchases. Worsening inflation will add about $400 million in additional costs this year, with a majority coming in the fourth quarter, according to Chief Financial Officer Paul Jacobson.

The Stock Movers Report. Your roundup of companies making moves in the stock market. Harnessing the power of Bloomberg data.

I'm Alexis Christophorus. Lots of stock movers to tell you about today. And for that, we are joined by Bloomberg News equities reporter Natalia Kinijevic. And she is here with us now. And you brought some goodies with you, two of them after the bell. Netflix getting hit pretty hard here in the aftermarket after its earnings report. Exactly.

So shares are down by about 5% in post-market. Year-to-date, before this close today, of course, the shares are down by almost 27%. So here's the story with Netflix. For the third quarter, results basically came in line with expectations. Moreover, revenue for the U.S. and Canada came slightly above expectations, but potentially this is the brightest spot. Everyone is looking for metrics for 2027, and this is where the biggest issue is. So the company sees revenue for 2027 at $ 13. 44 billion. Expectations were for 13.51. EPS, the company sees it at 67 cents. Expectations were for 73 cents. And of course, investors want to know, how the company can potentially accelerate the client engagement because we saw a deceleration

in activity among subscribers. So these are some of the biggest questions for the company right now.

Yeah, and in that report, though, they talked about the price hike we saw back in March, and they made a point of saying that That churn rate is low, they said, and that subscriber growth is what they called healthy. But I guess healthy is relative because they don't give subscription numbers. They don't break them out any longer. And is that a problem for Wall Street? I mean, it's hard when you don't have subscribers. complete transparency in order for the market to react.

Absolutely. But I think the market is adjusting a little bit. I do remember when they announced that there were lots of concerns about analysts, how they're going to assess the company performance outlooks. But as of now, I think we will just go by quarter by quarter and see how the results look like. But for now, the picture is not looking good for 2027.

I mean, they have to come up with some blockbusters. We were talking earlier with Bloomberg's Geetha Ranganathan, and she's saying, listen, they need to get the winning content and to have people. People are spending less time watching Netflix. The churn rate might not be dropping, but we're just spending less time because you've got so much more competition when you think about it. So we've got shares of Netflix, ticker symbol NFLX, down about 6%. All right, let's get to the other big after-the-bell earnings report here, Natalia, and that would be SpaceX.

Yeah. Yes, our shares are up by more than 5% after the bell. Of course, we know that this company went public this year. And since it's IPO, the stock is up by maybe I can't say just below 10% because we saw this big spike in share prices right after the company went public. And then it was a huge decline. Now, of course, everyone was expecting this earnings report from SpaceX. For now, we see that the company posted its first quarterly profit of $ 4. 4 billion, or $ 0. 35 a share. Analysts on the earnings call, of course, will ask questions about spending, CapEx on AI. I just saw a note from one analyst who said, this is an AI business with a space company attached.

Oh, wow. That puts it in perspective, doesn't it? Yeah, AI revenue. soaring to $ 7. 5 billion in the quarter.

Exactly.

So it is interesting to also look at CapEx. So capital expenditure was about $ 20 billion. Now, if we look at space and connectivity CapEx combined, it's about $ 3 billion. AI capital expenditure is $ 16. 44 billion. So There is some truth in that, like your statement about a company with a space attached.

Absolutely. And it's satellite internet service Starlink, 13.6 million subscribers. We get a very healthy rise there. All right, let's get before we let you go to GM. What did they have to say this morning?

Yes.

So we saw a pretty brutal stock reaction. So the stock is down by almost 7% today. So, we saw that the company narrowed adjusted profit guidance for the full year. Analysts expected some kind of, you know, upside surprise, but in the end, they saw that the company raised low end, but they cut high end of its previous 2026 forecast. Still, we see that premium priced pickups and SUVs produce really solid cash flow. Now for the market, of course, one of the biggest questions would be where net growth can come from because sales are weaker here in the United States and in China. Maybe like just South America shows some gains.
