Good morning, my beautiful survivors. How are you? This is Karina, your host, creator and fellow stroke survivor. I suffered a stroke 27 years ago, brain stem dissection. I was 25 years old at the time. It led me to coma in the Lockton syndrome. But obviously I am here today with you. My show is all about moving forward past the stroke. I share all my tricks, hacks, how I got to survive this world as a survivor, and I realized that there's so much more life to live after a stroke.
Guys, grab a drink, pen and paper because the faintness of ink is better than the best memory. Come and join me here as we are recording today's episode. As per usual, today's episode is jam packed with information that is ready for transformation. However, I would like to do a little bit of clean house before we do commence if that's OK with you. Like follow and subscribe on any platform that you are currently listening to your podcast.
I do have a subscription base for only $4.99. You get 41 of my best episodes. Those are the most impactful in the last 27 years. They helped me move forward and figure things out. So if you're someone that wants to do things by your own, do your homework, do do your inner growth all by yourself, by all means, you are my guest.
Make sure that you leave me your coordinates. That way I am going to reach out to you and offer you some free sessions. I'm also going to leave in my description the link to my Spotify, to all of my social medias and my YouTube channel. Make sure you ring the bell also in the YouTube channel. That way you are going to be notified whenever I post new content on our part page.
New listeners of mine know that I'm very action prone. I want to thank all my listeners. Whether you are new and you tuned in, thank you so very much. Your presence here is so appreciated, desired, and really this is teamwork. Teamwork makes the dream work guys. And if you're an avid listener, well welcome you too.
As you know, I have a specific format that I like to keep it simple for my stroke survivors. So today's episode is going to be what does alignment truly mean? How do you know when you're not in alignment and how you can remedy it? You know, I'm very action prone, right? So I seem to always end with the how because I want you guys to be able to do it, such as I've been and I'm still trying to do more and more and more because stroke survivors will never stop.
And actually being in alignment means that you know that it's OK that you stop and it's OK and you need to do it. Being in alignment, it's true definition is either you're in a personal alignment or a spiritual alignment, but it's all about being in harmony with your true self, your values, your purpose. These are all things that we are looking for after stroke because we very often become someone else or we feel like we're someone else.
But in reality, it's just you that is coming up. How are you showing up in the world? Being in alignment is how are you showing up in the world? When I talk about in the world, I don't mean at the other end of the planet, I mean in your personal world. Are you showing up as someone bitter, someone never happy, bickering all the time, criticizing all the time?
Or are you someone that's pretty much optimistic and pretty much sees the good impossibilities and opportunities and the way people behaviours? Those are things that are important. Your purpose, You're going to discover it as you go along in your survival. I only found mine 21 years after my stroke.
Believe it or not. I was in my mid 40s when I discovered my purpose, and my purpose accidentally came about when I joined all the different Facebook groups and I started my podcast and I started implicating myself and dedicating myself to my survivors and taking extra courses and becoming an NLP practitioner, which is neurolinguistic. Those are things that bettered me, that made me feel good, and I realized that my stroke happened. I couldn't do anything about it.
But what I could do is help others transform their lives. Because if I managed to transform mine and still see the good out of things and still live a pretty happy life, I can't see why other people can't. You guys deserve it, each and everyone of you. And in the meaning of being aligned for a stroke survivor, you guys often hear me talk about being in alignment with your mind, your body, and your emotions.
So many of you don't allow yourselves to truly, truly feel each and every emotion, whether it be good or bad. It doesn't mean it's just bad. What happens when you're mind, body and emotions are not aligned? Well, let's say you have pain in your mind. You have a major migraine and your migraine not only manifests itself in your head, but also in the base of your neck and in the top of your shoulders. So not only is it your mind now it's your body and your kid comes up to you or your spouse comes up to you and you snap like a Chihuahua dog.
Well, your emotions are being bothered also. So you're not in alignment. Being in alignment could be that when you say no, you mean no. You respect yourself, your own boundaries. In the mind of a stroke survivor, it's really matching your emotion, matching your words, pardon, matching your words to your actions.
It's really, really being true to who you are today. I often talk about having two entities, our pre stroke and our post stroke, and my job is to bring them together. The core of you will always be, but as time progresses, you might have different views, different values, you might have a different purpose than you had five years ago.
You might want to do something else with your life, with yourself. Give more, give less. Only you know the answer to that. Before I continue, guys, you might hear a a little yap behind me. I have a new dog I'm fostering. As you guys know, Bella passed away and it was very, very difficult for me to have her for 16 years.
And she really, really was great and quiet and quiet and she loved you guys and I know that you heard her behind. And I decided to start being a foster. I have so much love to give to pets and I love dogs. I love small dogs, so I have Einstein here with me. You're gonna see him in the group, you're gonna see him in a lot of pictures. A lot of my social media presence will be with Einstein. He's a mix of a Yorkshire and a Schnauzer, and he's pretty vocal sometimes, so bear with me if you hear him in the background going woof.
Thank you so much. He does bring a smile to all of us, right? He does do that, even though he's a little bit annoying when he does that, as he's doing that, he does bring a smile to my face. It's funny because I find that today's episode really, really embodies who I am now as a person. So should I go on before I do, you guys need to know that I'm in collaborations with Stroke Buddies.
Stroke Buddies is a group foundation that helps exactly stroke survivors in all different facets of the lives and they are full of resources. So look them up definitely on Facebook, Stroke Buddies. So the very first one I just talked about is connecting your words with your actions. They have to be in alignment. You have to do what you want to say and say what you're going to do.
Don't say it for the sake of saying it. I always use the example of raising a child. If you're saying not your child, but after 2 minutes you give them what they want, well then they're always going to think they're going to get because you never mean when you say no. I know for a fact that was an issue back in the day when I was little with my sister, that was an issue.
So it's very important that you lead by example by sticking by your words. The second one that shows alignment is when you're leaving your values. For example, my value of helping others, whether here in my podcasting or on my social media presence or in my coaching, it doesn't make a difference. I want to help people.
That is a huge part of who I am in part of my values. Since my beginning in the show, since I created it, I have been talking about leading by example for our children and make no mistake that our children are not necessarily underage. Our children can be grown as children that maybe need alignment themselves. So when they see that you who had a stroke, you are still a kind, honest and you're free.
How can you be free, not monetarily free spirited where you value your authenticity, you're valuing that you are who you are, how you are. You present yourself as what you are and nothing else. Even if you're a stroke survivor that is walking funny, that might sound funny, that, excuse me, it doesn't make a difference.
You are valuing things that are important to you, even when it's not uncomfortable. I often talk about being comfortable even when you're uncomfortable or getting used to being uncomfortable. That's when we become comfortable. Does that make sense? Be true to yourself. The third thing that can show you that you have you are living in alignment is that you're walking and your purpose, your actions are flowing or and there's a flow. There's there's, there's ease.
Even when there's problems, there is ease. Why? Because you accept it and you find other ways to go around it. That is kind of in connections with the three as I talk about all the time acknowledging, accepting and taking action. Well if you're walking in your purpose my love, you are definitely someone that is accepting and taking action even when things are challenging you don't give up. And about the leading what by example when our kids, even our grown up kids see that?
Excuse me that even in the face of adversity you are having fun, you are living your life. You are still a kick ass person. My daughter puts posts on Mother's Day or on my birthday to the strongest person I know, my mom. This is the only mom my daughter knows. She was 16 months when I had my stroke.
So the way I am now, she has seen me from my worst to now and I still have because now I'm in my 50s, I have different Boo boos but I am not giving up. And sometimes as a stroke survivor, it was hard. Our life together was hard, but she still saw me pushing through and it paid off. Being in alignment and walking in your purpose could be by example, taking a job that maybe pays a bit less because you want to have more time to help others.
Oh wait, let me give you a little scenario. I was working full time. I was making OK, decent money. OK, I was not living the life, but I was living good. How about that, OK. And the way I could live my life, live their life, is by living my life the way I wanted to. Well, in February I decided that I want to put more time and energy in helping my stroke survivors on all my different platforms and ways, and I started working part time. So in a way, I did take a job that pays less 'cause I'm making less than half of my old salary, but I don't care. It's hard as heck guys, because I'm waiting for my disability to kick in and monetarily it is hard, It is challenging. It really is guys, and sometimes
I miss some sleep because I've been less now but a few months ago. Oh my Lord. But you know what? My value of wanting to be there for my survivors and my heart being with you guys is worth all the anguish and the nights where I did not sleep because of finances. All that because I'm with you guys. That is living in alignment.
That is not letting my ego and wanting to keep up with the Joneses make me become someone that I'm not. And #4 well, I know that after having had a stroke. Maybe you were religious and you were praying to your God, whatever God it may be. And I know that after having had a stroke, we either adore God even more or not.
But I can tell you this, you are not disconnected when God is there. I am not a religious person, guys. No way, Jose. I do not go to church, but I am a very big believer that without God having been with me my whole life and feeling how He was close to me and protecting me, I would not have survived.
Probably none of what I've done and what I've been through. So you are not disconnected when you follow your intuition, your gut, your inner voice that tells you do this or do that or don't do this and don't do that. And another big one, your mind, body, and spirit happens when you hold yourself accountable.
So many people take actions. I'm talking about people with strokes people, not strokes or survivors, just people like that and they have a victim mindset and it's always something or somebody else's fault. That is not being in alignment when you don't live your own shit, when you are not holding you. Hey, I watched 3 hours of Netflix example. OK?
Am I gonna say it's Netflix fault because I didn't do my work on my social medias that I was supposed to do? No, it's not. It's not. It's me, Karina. If I choose to say yes, to sit on my ass and watch Netflix for three hours, I also choose not to do the work I'm supposed to be doing by my own responsibility, you see. So I'm giving, I'm giving different. Size to the story, because I want you to put what I talk about in your context.
The worst thing that you could do is compare yourself. Compare yourself to other survivors. Compare that they walk. I should be walking right now. They talk. I should be talking right now. No, there is no should. When you're a stroke survivor, there's only wood. There's only will. The wood becomes a will. I will walk.
It's all in the way we speak and in the way we speak. OK, I know it sounds funny and I know it's a mouthful and it's an earful, but what you think about, you talk about what you talk about, you bring about you. Do you take action by living in alignment, you are being the best version of yourself. That is really what the best version of yourself means.
And being aligned means my beautiful survivors. This is what I have for you today. I hope that you enjoy it. Make sure also that you download the episode. That way you can actually sit back, relax, listen to it today, think, let your brain work with and then the next time you play, you play it in your downloads and then you can take notes and see how it works for you.
Maybe start journaling. I love you immensely and I will see you very soon. I love you. Bye.
