Hello, the Internet, and welcome to this episode of Young Trending Stein. Oh, I'm courtesy of Vanadium Silver.
Isn't that what it said, a young Frankenstein?
I've never seen Young Frankenstein. You've never seen Young Frankenstein? I know. That's fucked up. It's black and white, right? Yeah, yeah. yeah that's that's just my bias my dumb bias i remember also doing it.
Funny it's black and white i know i know i was the exact same thing there's the chloris leachman plays frau blucher and there's like always like there's like horse winning i think after um anyway just that was the first black and white movie i was like all right this is kind of funny i gotta admit my dad my dad wasn't wrong with this one.
This can't be funny um what an idiot i that just remind i need to see young frankenstein um Yeah, my.
Dad was just always like, it's good. He's like, don't worry. He's like, it was black and white for like a reason. It wasn't black and white because it's that old.
And I'm like, fair, fair. Not a good reason to tell you that much. Not good enough.
I said, shout out Vanadium Silver for the short show title.
I hope so. This is trending. My name is Jack O'Brien. That over there is Mr. Miles Gray. Yes. And this is the episode where we tell you what is trending on this October 8th spooky season episode. Still so spooky. So spooky.
Yeah.
So spooky that we're doing Young Trendingstein as the trending title. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
You know? Let's see. There's bad news in the Cornell rape case.
Yeah.
With the Jane Doe got swatted on Tuesday.
Yeah. She's been on the receiving end of all kinds of bullshit, especially in media. If it's Megyn Kelly or Sonny Hostin or just... every dude in the comments section of any posts talking about this. But her lawyer revealed some details of a Tuesday night incident where someone, like you said, swatted her home. And for people who don't know, that's when someone calls in a fake 911 call involving some kind of shooting with like active shooting going on to basically get a SWAT team to respond to the house.
And how is that not attempted murder at this point? Like, well, I don't definitely when people get caught.
Yeah.
I don't, I don't know what that is, but it, it should be seen like that because the whole point is like, you want to have armed goons pull up to a house thinking that they're going to go into like a shooting situation.
And then like, it.
Feels like this should be a thing that you really just throw the book at, you know?
Yeah. Yeah.
Yeah.
Is it because the cops would, then have to admit that they're irresponsible.
They're like, well, you know, they, yeah, yeah.
We got to treat this as attempted murder because we're liable to just go in there, guns blazing, you know?
Yeah.
We are kind of the shoot first, ask questions later type people.
So.
We'll sometimes ask questions, but yeah, not enough of them. But yeah, his lawyer said that her family basically filed a police report saying that, quote, a person called 911 claiming a man had shot his mother to death before turning the gun on his sister, gave the cops her address. Obviously, this is fake. And then it says, an unwitting police officer rushed to her home where he spotted a car reversing out of the driveway. Cops stopped the car and took two men into custody, but they turned out to be Doe's boyfriend and brother.
They were soon released.
Another person then allegedly came to the home's front door yelling, I'm the dad, what's going on? The man also told the officer his daughter is Jane Doe of the Cornell 7 case and that his family was, quote, being threatened by numerous unknown people. And so her lawyer went on to say, luckily the brother was in his car. He put his hands up. uh, and her boyfriend was thrown to the ground. Also said that the, uh, Jane Doe's father had quote guns put in his face. If you had a trigger happy cop or somebody had done the wrong thing, somebody could have ended up dead.
Yep.
Um, and yeah, I mean like there was also.
The wrong thing based on like whatever that cop thinks is the wrong thing, you know, in that moment. Yeah.
And I mean, you know, right now it's, it's a very, uh, An interesting time for fraternities and Greek life and different campuses. And just, I think right now, just looking at like, you know, the lawyer also shared like death threats that she's getting with like, you need to withdraw your case, withdraw your case because you're going to ruin my cousin's life and making like death threats over that. But again, I think it's just like we've seen with. you know, people who rock the boat against white supremacy or other kinds of fucking.
Systems of oppression. Christine Blasey Ford. Yeah.
They're living or like these systems of oppression, they're living organisms that they do what they need to, to survive. In this case, the survival mechanism of rape culture manifests in violent threats to someone that is merely looking for justice. Um, some schools though are taking the scourge of frat culture seriously.
Some are making sort of gestures to appear as if, they consider it a threat to the safety of their students. But most recently, I was reading the dean at, like, University of Arizona suspended the activities of around six frats as it was investigating them for, like, hazing and assault.
Like, I would have assumed that this was going to be a story where it's like, we're just going to, like, take down all fraternities for now. We're going to suspend fraternities while we look into this because for the safety of our students, not that they... are because of this, they are suspending the six fraternities who are actively being investigated for like doing brutal, sadistic shit.
It's like, well, there's your answer, man. Like, yeah.
Uh, you know, I think it's, it's so hard to like, to your point, right. It's like, if there was a push from universities, like, you know what, we're going to have like some universities just ban fraternal organizations outright.
Yeah.
Others, I'm sure if you were doing something like University of Arizona or University of Miami or these larger schools where a bunch of wealthy people come out of there, I'm sure you're going to have a ton of people come to the defense of these fraternal organizations and be like, well, it wasn't like that when I was there.
These organizations are good.
I tend to agree with people that are saying we really need to look at what frat culture has become because broadly, you look at a place like Cornell, these aren't people who end up fucking busking on the street or something. These are people who go on to be America's future business leaders, potentially politicians, and certainly the kinds of people that are willing participants in driving inequality and, like, earth death.
So they learn.
to mindlessly go with the flow from these, like, you know, these hazing rituals and things like that and always seek to fit in rather than be part of the out group. So, uh, I mean, I think, you know, just like the brutal statistics that shows like men who joined fraternities are three times more likely to commit rape should be a jumping off point in addressing like the issue.
Um, and like the last should be it. That should be it. Like, Whoa.
I mean, cause you know, there'd be outrage if someone said like, uh, People are more likely to put in whatever stupid culture war point in there.
Three times more likely to be a furry. People are like, what's going on here? Yeah, right.
But we're talking about people that are violent transgressors. This is real predation that is coming three times more likely. I think that's something that needs to be looked at. But I think the lack of institutional outrage... isn't surprising when stats like this have been available for years it feels like similar to the situation to cops where people always use the bad apple defense but right if you look at the institution holistically you're like i'm looking at the whole thing and i'm actually seeing a ton of problems maybe you want to say bad apples sure there are but it feels like the tree itself is made to make a lot of bad apples and some good apples but And those good apples would be fine if
this weren't there. Like that's, I don't know what the argument is other than this is what, this is what I did. And I have a lot of money and I, I liked doing, you know, it's like, you will find ways to socialize that don't involve, you know, systemic fucking sadism.
Like that's the, it's, uh, I, yeah, it truly feels like, One of.
Those things that is there is no really positive argument that I've heard that makes any sense. It's like the argument for continuing to do all of the climate change shit. It's just like, no, it's just that these rich, powerful people were. involved in this and you know had benefits from this and so we the rest of us have to live with it for right from now on yeah i have.
Friends who like went to fraternities and like after like i'm like wait you were enough like they're the kind of people who i'm like wait you were in a fucking frat and they're like yeah it was stupid like i i was like i thought that was part of going to college is like you join a frat and like you make friends and things like that he's like i just didn't it I.
Don't, he's like, I don't even talk to people that I was in a frat with anymore. And I don't know.
I mean, like it, there's, I, I get the attraction when you're younger, but I, for me, I was so not into it because I was like.
Why the fuck am I going to humiliate myself to join some fucking, what the fuck is this?
Like, I don't even, I reject the premise of even like what this whole thing is and what it's offering. But I also get to like, people want to feel part of a larger group. And you know, the, these organizations offer people that kind.
Of like the chess club.
Join the, join the AV club, you know, join a club that has a, that has a thing that is not just that, like there, that is not just this, you know?
Yeah.
And I, you know, and I feel bad too, cause like I have friends who were part of like HBCU fraternities.
They have very good memories of it. They, they're very close with like the people.
Like their frat brothers and things like that and I so I see examples where I'm like oh you took that with you into your adult life and like you seem to actually have a group of people that are supportive or whatever but I know even more people who just sort of like nah that was just a stupid I was just partying basically and binge drinking.
Yeah All right.
Well, let's talk about Amazon real quick, because there are a series of TikTok videos that have gone viral. One from Sarah Esterman, who went on TikTok and just basically explained that. there's this thing that you can find in Amazon. If you like dig around, I haven't bothered to do all the digging.
Um, yeah, there's, there's a section that says like about you, if you like that you, and then you go like, you know, click through these other three things.
I don't have like, I'm not logged into my Amazon account. So I like, uh, but, if you dig through, there are things that are like engages in nail art and decoration has kids. And like this reminded me of a story that we've talked about before where people will, you know, not know they're pregnant and, or, you know, people in their family will not know they're pregnant and Amazon will start suggesting that they buy diapers because like Amazon somehow has figured it out that they're pregnant. Um, and so it has, um, And the video that went viral was this person on TikTok being like, and I went and I looked and in addition to these things that are very standard, enjoys outdoor activities, outdoor protection, it has a
bad father.
I don't know.
That's where I'm like....
That's I almost, maybe I don't want to believe that there are somehow like, yeah, yeah.
Daddy issues. There's a lot of, I don't know.
Like I'm seeing a lot of people being like, yeah, I looked at mine and like what one funny one was just engages in nail art and decoration.
And then right below that abandoned nail art hobby.
It's like, yeah, well there, it just, it feels like if you put these descriptions in the mouth of like, a teenager who looks you up and down and then is like, well, you have a bad father.
Right, right, right.
One that I haven't, you know, gone through, found all the commenters and confirmed any of these. But some of the ones that have been posted in the comments are carries all weight in midsection, has big gigantic nostrils.
That one feels like too much. Yeah.
And then some of them feel like I could see, you know, we have an Alexa in our kitchen that we use for like, all right, Alexa, set a timer for, sorry, if that just fucking set off a timer.
You could just call the CIA and tell them all your secrets.
You don't need to have this thing in your house.
We mainly have it because we feel like the CIA needs a better line into our household.
Yeah.
We use it mainly for timers, but my kids do love asking questions and fucking with it and, like, creating characters.
Like, my name is Bob. And then... Like, trying to throw it off? Yeah, trying to throw it off and, like, create... Oh, hell yeah.
Yeah, my eight-year-old has created a character named Bob that has all sorts of weird shit going on. So, this one that says, has a rat named Ethan living in the ceiling feels like that's probably on our list because... That's the sort of shit that my kids would make up and say to Alexa. But anyways, if anybody has done this, one of them repeatedly purchases identical clothing items.
Fuck that.
That feels like pretty, that feels algorithmic. You know, that feels like robotic. When you go big, gigantic nostrils.
Big, gigantic nostrils. A little too much flavor on there.
Or it could be like the kind of thing you're saying where like a kid is saying the same thing over and over again.
Yeah, yeah. My mom has big, gigantic nostrils. Can you give tissue.
For my mom's big, gigantic nostrils that has a nose ring?
Has short legs was one of them. Anything that's like judgy, but I have short legs for my body. So, you know, maybe if Amazon noticed that about me and put it in my thing, I'd actually be kind of impressed.
They know everything. They know everything. I have a feeling people are having fun with it. But also it's just funny. It's funny because the amount of data that's collected on us all the time, it's really hard to know if this is a bit.
Like, cause we know that they are doing it.
Right.
And like the ones that make sense, it's like, it prefers this brand most likely has a, like a child or whatever.
Yeah.
Yeah.
But then the other stuff of like, got short legs. What the fuck is that? Although it does feel the thing where it's like, they fucking, I mean like our cars, no one allegedly, we know when we're having sex.
Yeah.
So maybe Amazon would know.
I have, I have a stepdad energy or something, some weird shit.
It would probably say what, ideas could they come up with off of short leg just like needs to take more steps. So like, we'll need to replace their shoes more frequently than people with longer legs.
It's like, maybe they like longer shorts that they can use as pants. You know, like trying to think of like how that optimizes your shopping experience. Like, Oh, short legs. Oh, they're going to love these jean shorts. It'd be like fucking pants for them. Um, all right, let's take a quick break.
We'll come back. We'll talk about more news. And we're back. We're back.
And here's something weird about me, Miles. I've always found it kind of terrifying that Mike Huckabee is our ambassador to Israel and is also kind of on the record saying that he's like part of the Christian right thing that is like we want a holy war in Israel because that is like part of the recipe. That's like the like you, you gotta have eggs to bake a cake.
You gotta have a holy war in Israel to bring back Jesus for the end times.
Anyways, that just a weird, weird.
Thing about me is that that's who is our ambassador to Israel. And I don't feel wholly comfortable with that. Yeah.
Yeah, sure.
Sure.
I mean, there's a whole thing where like people are like, yes, this is great. This guy believes in the prophecy and he's there at ground zero to make it all happen.
Um, yeah, he's, uh, he's a, he's a weird one.
I just want to play, uh, right now he's in some heat because of, uh, some reporting that's come out from the New York times about his role as ambassador to Israel. But I just want to play a clip because, you know, October 7th just happened on Wednesday and he was on the news really going out there just really making his case known on this historic date, what his view is of what is happening to Palestinian people.
This is the ambassador, okay? This is America's ambassador to Israel.
This is his statement he gave to Fox News when talking about the situation in Gaza. Specifically, Huckabee is giving a response because they're saying like, what do you think about Zoran Mamdani acknowledging genocide or things like that?
What do you think about this on this day? And so we get the Huckabee clap back.
I am seething over his comments. They're absurd and they're utterly false. There is no genocide going on in Gaza. There is no apartheid and there is no occupation. The man knows that what he says is not true. It would be the equivalent of on the 25th anniversary of 9-11 for him to have gotten up and said, yes, it was tragic that those airliners flew into the World Trade Center, but America overreacted and America took on more than it should have.
I mean, that's... Wait, what? Yeah, that's... I thought you were going to go for and we deserved it. Yeah, yeah.
A measured response and accurate historical description of... I don't know if we overreacted.
We certainly did not do the right thing. That's like something like a neocon would say after they're trying to explain their vote for the Iraq war and be like, and you know, I do believe that we maybe perhaps overreacted and had overly forceful a response considering that millions were killed. So that's how he's out here, just flat out denying there's genocide, anything, denying that there's ethnic cleansing happening in the West Bank. So the New York Times is reporting that his top aide has basically been using his position to stifle any reports at the embassy of settler violence, especially in instances where American citizens have been killed by Israeli settlers.
Quote, David Milstein, an aide to U.S.
Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee, was running cover for the Israeli government, suppressing reports critical of Israeli actions. Milstein, according to several named sources, quashed reports from the U.S. embassy in Jerusalem documenting Israeli settler violence in the occupied West Bank, including against Americans. Milstein sent a cable from the embassy to Washington praising Israel for cracking down on Israeli settler violence, when in reality... Embassy staff had drafted a report saying that the Israeli government wasn't taking action. After Congress raised concerns about how Israeli authorities and settlers have killed nine American citizens, Milstein suppressed another embassy report, hindering lawmakers from
investigating further.
Uh covering up the murder of u.s citizens by israeli quote-unquote settlers.
Yeah yeah so that this is what the guy is doing when they go away so what's happening in israel what's going on with the embassy what's these are our eyes you know boots on the ground and you have something like.
Everything's fine. They're doing everything they can. Everything's great. Nothing bad has happened. Really good. They're protecting people. That's what's happening.
Yeah.
And so again, he also, this is unprecedented, quote, Milstein also demanded any communications from the embassy section on Palestinian affairs go through him. This led to the embassy's cables dropping from several per week to only a few per month. They said that this kind of intervention is unprecedented for the embassy and is preventing the U.S. government from getting accurate information about Israel from diplomatic channels. So, yeah, three years on from the start of the ethnic cleansing and genocide of Gaza.
And, you know, the U.S.
Is still no closer to changing the status quo. And if anything, you're beginning to see how it works. It's like, well, how about this? We'll, we'll say we have, we're doing work to just keep an eye on what's happening there. But if anything like untoward illegal pops up, I need you to not tell me about that at all.
I do not. Yeah. I'm going to need you to keep that one to yourself.
Yeah.
And yeah, so this is all under Mike Huckabee's not watchful eye, but I mean, I guess watchful eye, if his whole point is to just, you.
Know, cover for the Israeli government. slammed shut eye. Yeah.
Yeah.
Shut and singing la la la la la himself. Head in sand. Let's see. We got the DNC has.
Actually decided to sue Trump over those campaign style propaganda ads that he used taxpayer funded money to do. they had earlier back in September fired off a sternly worded letter to Trump's chief of staff, um, back in September and somehow that didn't work. So now as we're like almost at the midterms and after these ads have run, they're like, I guess we better file a lawsuit, do things way too slow. Um, so yeah, we'll see. We'll see if that changes thing. I mean, maybe this action is what, uh, Trump was reacting to when he was like, fine.
Uh, you guys are so stupid.
I mean, I get that. If that's what it takes, then sure. Uh, now go harder than that, please. Um, but yeah, well, uh, I'm sure he'll be real disappointed that he won't, he has to now pay for these ads telling everybody to love him.
Love me, love me. One of them was set to that song. Love me, love me. Say that you love me. Oh, Love Fool by the Cardigans? From the Romeo and Juliet soundtrack? Let's see. This was a weird story that happened earlier this week. Last week, I think, yeah.
Yeah, that a convicted murderer on death row was put to death and, like, it didn't take.
They did it wrong. They were two doses. Because they... are bad at this.
And because it's not a, it's not a humane science that slow, like the way that it was always described to me when I was growing up and being like, why do we live in a fucking barbaric country where that still puts people to death?
It was like, well, they have it like down to a science. So it's this completely painless like thing. Nope. Doesn't sound like it. Sounds pretty fucking terrible. Yeah. It sounds terrible by, by all accounts.
And then, so it's this weird, like philosophical mind fuck that they, so the doses that they gave her failed to, um, end her life. And then the medical staff immediately began trying to save her life because that like that, that's what you do. So it's just like, well, if that is what, like we understand needs to happen. And so she, they did, the medical staff saved her. She's now awake and like speaking, but shouldn't that just be a moment where we're like, well, this doesn't make any fucking sense.
Yeah.
Any of this. Yeah.
It's, and it's also a thing that there's a history of like, even in Tennessee, like they've, they fucked up, like trying to execute two black men the same way where they were like, Oh, the guy's screaming out in pain and stuff. And they're like, okay, knock it off, knock it off, knock it off. Um, So yeah, a lot of questions are being asked. I know a judge right now is telling the, the prison to basically be like, I need to see every record, every object, everything that was used in this. The other thing was that her lawyer was saying that like, dude, you're going to have problems with veins in her.
Like she doesn't, her veins are like compromised.
Yeah.
So you're, this is like, the lawyer was like, this is not going to be easy just from a fucking scientific, just reality.
Of it all. And they're like, yeah, yeah, yeah. Sure, sure, sure. We do this all the time. I think we got it.
Oh, shit.
We botch executions all the time. This is kind of our specialty. What? Botching executions? Yeah, it's kind of our thing. Yeah. All right. This happened.
We're catching up on some old ones. But earlier on Monday, we all learned that Jim Baker was apparently still alive.
Yeah. Yeah.
Disgraced televangelist, Jim Baker, Tammy Faye Baker. I only knew about him in relation to Tammy Faye Baker, who I only knew about because she was the stand in for a person who wore a lot of makeup when I was growing up.
Yeah.
Like in every like comedic sketch, I just remember Tammy Faye Baker was so much eyeliner.
Yes, exactly.
That's Tammy Faye Baker. Um, so yeah, He was still alive. He did die on Monday. That is how we found out that he was still alive, is that he died on Monday at the age of 86.
He got 86. He got 86 at 86. I was like, all right, I'll bite. And it is pretty interesting.
He's the subject of a sex scandal after having an affair with a, quote, church clerk in the 80s. Soon after that, he was indicted for mail fraud, wire fraud and conspiracy after an investigation was of his organization's finances where he was basically just taking, taking contributions directly to the dome, you know, to just, To pay for, I think it was like 3.4 million directly for himself.
Just cash from parishioners. Pretty straightforward. Yeah. Straightforward Christian grifter. You know what I mean?
Yeah.
But like at the height. Kind of an icon.
Definitely an icon of Christian grifting. Because like all those ill-gotten gains were like made to do all kinds of fucking fantastic shit. Like he was really trying to put big C Christianity on the map.
And just like an icon in the world of grifting and a world that we now... Exist in that is just that that is water. That's what our president is a grifter like that. This description of like the thing that got him in trouble is just like this could so easily be the Trump family. Baker sold tens of thousands of one thousand dollar lifetime memberships to a luxury hotel, but only one five hundred room hotel was ever finished being built. And then he used that stolen cash to pay his company's bills. Kept 3.4 for himself. But, like, the thing that was surprising to me is that they had a thing. They had a big thing going. They had a Christian Disneyland called Heritage USA.
Jesus. Heritage, which was in Florida. So, in the South. It was called Heritage USA, which.
went belly up in 1989 after the scandals, but it was wildly successful for a while. Like we, we talk a lot about how theme parks are like a great thing for grifters for some, for whatever reason, that is a great way to make money. But at one point, They were attracting nearly six million visitors a year, which made it the third most visited theme park in the United States behind the two Disney ones. They had two thousand five hundred employees, an annual income of one hundred and twenty six million dollars. And then that all fell apart when he when the sex scandal happened.
Just a little, just, I mean, also then in his later days too, he was also selling really cool survival apocalypse survival buckets too.
Silver solution for COVID. Yep. Yep.
Yep.
Yep.
He went through this like highly public, you know, he went to jail, came out of jail, wrote a book called I was wrong. And it was just him on the cover being like, look, Hey, I'm just going to come out and tell you I was wrong.
Yeah. The untold story.
Of the shocking journey from ptl power to prison and beyond and beyond people beyond that's where I'm going to take you.
I don't know if you, you know, that creator Vic Berger, uh, like I remember like about 10 years ago when he was putting together those Jim Baker fucking compilation videos that were just mind numbing.
They were like amazing. Holy shit.
What a specimen of humanity to just like kind of sit and take in be like, wow.
Um, but anyways, yeah.
So he did the whole redemption story and then, uh, came back with like hawking, uh, fake silver solution during COVID. So like just actively killing people or stealing their money as, as he's selling them a fake cure for the global pandemic that is like taking them out.
Yeah. This guy's a fucking predator.
He's a sociopath you're you're using you know people's devotion to a religion is like dude these guys are fucking idiots it's and i'm gonna get every fucking dollar from them i don't give a shit that's truly how he operated There have.
Been artists who are ahead of their time, but, like, it's such a bummer that this guy was ahead of his time.
But, like, doing all this shit, it's like, oh, man. R.I.P. You would have loved the Trump administration. Yeah. If you were in your prime, you would have been killing it.
It feels like echoes of, like, Tammany Hall or something, you know, like, just Industrial Revolution America, where the people are like.
Yeah, dude, I'm fucking... These people are getting took, dude. I don't give a fuck. The head of and behind his time. And in his time.
I think he did more for the modern era. You know what I mean? He was the Michael Jordan of this era.
Anyways. Rest in piss, Bozo. A big R.I.P.
Bozo to that guy. That is going to do it for us on this Thursday, October 8th. We are back tomorrow with a whole ass episode.
Yeah. Sure. With the great Lydia Popovich. So that's going to be fun.
Until then, be kind to each other. Be kind to yourselves. Get your vaccines while you still can. Get your flu shots. Don't do nothing about white supremacy. And we will talk to you all tomorrow.
Bye. Bye.
