We break down why grit is built when things stop working and why real confidence comes from refusing to quit. We use my mom’s no-fluff lessons to show how tenacity, patience, and better questions turn setbacks into fuel.
• my mom’s old-school standard of thorough work and no excuses
• grit as “Greatness Resides In Tenacity” and why adversity reveals you
• staying in the fight when results fall off and the back is against the wall
• getting curious instead of emotional and using failure as data
• separating what happened from what you made it mean
• bamboo season and invisible progress as foundation-building
• committing before certainty and keeping energy in the messy middle
• making it hard to quit through daily consistency and the long game
• doing difficult things to build empowerment in any season

Are you watering that bamboo? Are you watering that dream? Are you still showing up every single day?

Once you see what you actually are, that you're an infinite, limitless being, you'll see that nothing exists outside of you. I'm your host, Derek Grant, and this is the Pathway to Your Results Podcast. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Pathway to Results Podcast. It is your boy DG. We are here. Oh my goodness.

This episode right here. Hmm. I've been holding off a little bit. I had to wait till I got in the right frame of mind. Um, you guys are gonna, you guys are gonna I'm gonna let you all inside of my mind and how my mind works. Um I'm gonna just first, I've I've I've told you this kind of before, but let me let me let me just break down because me and my mom, we my mom is like an active listener now to the podcast.

She's always listened, but now she's like, I mean, she calls me, mom. Mom, she will call me. You'll be like, yeah, I'm listening to your podcast right now. I'm listening to your podcast, and I hear you talking about it. So she now she like uses as a way to like listen and to check up to see what I'm going through in life and what I'm dealing with.

But here's one thing about my mother, what I love about my mom, okay? My mom is old fashioned. My mom is old fashioned. I'm talking about like class of 1969, born in 1951, raised in Marion, South Carolina, the daughter of a sharecropper, old school, like, nah, we ain't doing no fluff, we ain't doing none of that.

It's all about what are you doing? What's the production? What is the like that is the way I was raised. My mom ain't nothing with the fluff, nothing with it. So she's always taught me, it doesn't matter how it looks, it matters what you've done. My mom has always been like, nah, don't make no excuses.

Did you do it? Yes or no? My mom used to, I remember, I used to make my bed up. My mom be like, nope, go make it again. Go do it again. And guess what? I'm gonna tell you to make it up every time until you do it the quote unquote right way. So my mom has always taught me to be thorough. This is this is her, I mean we we talk all this.

She always calls me her nickname for me is I'm I'm her roadie. I'm her roadie. Because when she'd be like, Derek, let's go. All right, let's go, mom, where are we going? Are we gonna go to Memphis and go see uh this and okay, I'm going. Are we gonna go to the US Open? Okay, I'll go. But so my mom, we've always kind of resonated.

People always ask me, Who's you who's your coach? Who's your teacher? My mom was my teacher, always. My mom was making my mom, my mom was the one who when when when school would get out, she'd be like, uh, here, read this book this summer and write a book report at the end of the summer. I'm like, ain't nobody else doing it.

How come I gotta do it during summer break? Or we go on vacation, and my mom would be like, I want you to write a report and tell me what you thought about the vacation. That's the mom that I had. So my mom has always spurred growth and learning, always. My mom was an educator. She always spurred, like, talked about like education.

She had two parents who had the uh level of education. One stopped in fifth grade, and I think the other one stopped in seventh grade. So she's always been one of like grow, learn, figure out more. Like, so the reason why I'm telling you this is because my mother instilled in me, my mom's she'll be 75 here in a couple months.

She still does like yard work, she still does like, she could easily hire somebody to do her mulch. She's like, No, we're gonna order 10, 10 yards of mulch. I'm gonna get out here and do it myself. Old school. Like, she's getting up and going, she plays tennis, like, and she's really good at tennis. My point of this is what she's taught me is this thing that we call um grit.

And I have an acronym for grit. Y'all gonna write it down if you need to. Grit just stands for uh greatness resides in tenacity. Greatness resides in tenacity. See, my mother taught me when it's not working, what do you do then? What do you do then? Because anybody can believe, anybody can have faith, anybody can trust when the business is growing, when you're losing the weight, when the views are going up, when the followers are going up, when people are purchasing and buying and the bank accounts growing.

Anybody can do that. But see, if you ain't got no grit, what you gonna do when things fall off? What you gonna do when things get hard?

Hmm?

As we would say, what are you gonna do when the back is against the wall? See, I can turn a lot, I can tell a lot about somebody. I can tell a lot about them by when things get hard. So I'm teaching my kids right now, when things get hard, don't you fold up? Hmm? Don't you fold up? When things get hard, you know what we do?

We turn up. We turn up. When times get hard, we turn up. Because if there's a hundred people, 99 of them are gonna fold up when it gets hard. One person, one person is gonna say, all right, let's turn up. What we got next? But here's the deal. If I'm gonna teach this to my kid, just like my mom, if she's gonna teach this to me, guess what she gotta do?

Guess what I gotta do? We gotta embody it. We gotta live it. So this is why I don't mind pushing my children. I don't mind uh telling them because I'm doing it for me. So I'm not, I always tell my kid, I ain't never gonna tell you to do something that I ain't done in my life, ever. If I ever tell you something, I want to make sure I do everything from integrity.

So my point of this is for you to realize your greatness inside of you is not revealed when things are going great. The greatness inside of you is revealed when sh ain't working. Huh? That's really what I want to see. I always tell my son, basketball. He's like, hey, do you think he's good? I said, no, I don't talk, don't.

Here's how I measure if somebody's good. I measure somebody's good when the chips are stacked against them. That's what I want to see. I want to see how he is on his worst day. I will then judge somebody on how quote unquote good they are when they have a bad game. And then let me see how they bounce back.

Do you see how this works? See, see, this is where uh when I tell you why you gotta have grit and greatness resides in tenacity. Tenacity means you stay your butt in the fight. You stay your butt in the conversation, you stay in the pain cave, in the adversity. See, what I've learned in my life, this is the one facet that if you have this, and this and tenacity is the twin sister resilience.

Okay. If I can be resilient, if I can have tenacity, if we can have that, uh, what do they call that? The get back up factor, if I can get back up, I don't give a if something knocks me down. Huh? So imagine this. What if you weren't afraid of being knocked down? Now you're not afraid to go after those goals.

You're not afraid to go and try those things that seem so big. Because if I get knocked down, guess what? I'm gonna get back up. Do you see now? This is why grit is so needed. But here's what ends up happening things get hard, and then we change the route. We change the direction. We surrender to the situation.

So my mother and my father, my father too, but my mom is more communicative, more vocal. She, we talk about this to this day. Ah, things get hard, we don't give up. Don't quit. And now here's what I've learned along my journey. The reason why I can't quit, the reason why I won't quit, is because I will learn more about myself by not quitting than I would if I gave up.

You will find out more about yourself and be more empowered if you just push through this and don't give up. And then you have to remind yourself when the rain's really hard, and it's so funny that it's raining right now as I'm saying this. Eventually it's going to stop raining. That's why I'm not worried about the rain right now when it's coming down.

I know eventually it's going to stop. It's going to, it has to. But see, what happens is when things aren't working in our lives, you know what happens with a lot of people? We get emotional. Instead of getting emotional, you know what you should do? You get more, get a little bit more curious. So instead of you being emotional saying, Maybe I'm not good enough, maybe, maybe people don't want me, maybe I'm falling off.

That's you being emotional. Knock it off. Instead, why don't you look at the data that created the issue before you started to dramatize the whole thing? Why isn't this working? What do I need to change? What adjustments need to be made? So now you start to realize that this failure that knocked you down was actually just information to help you become a new version.

So, but here's what we'll do. And if you don't have grit, this is a telltale sign. You will take bad data and turn it into a bad self-image. I'm not getting any playing time, so therefore nobody thinks I'm good enough. I didn't get the contract, so therefore nobody wants me. You know the universe is saying?

Uh, as if you're over here acting like everything revolves around you. Like, stop making it about you, you freaking selfish little bear. How about this? It isn't about you right now. Don't make it so emotional. If we just look at this objectively and say, what do I need to change? What inside of me needs to change for me to accomplish the goal that I said I wanted to accomplish.

So there is no failure. I told you all when I climbed that mountain, 36 hours. That was simple. I was gonna do that. But I wanted to do it in 30 hours. It took me 32. I missed it by 120 minutes. Did I fail? No. Guess what I'll do? I'll go back to the drawing board, figure out what didn't work, I'll try it again.

Maybe next year I'll sign up again and do it again. I now know what I need to do, though. I extracted the data. So this is key for us to have grit and to be able to have tenacity, is you're gonna have to separate what happened from what you made it mean. There's something that happened, and then you are the one who turned it into a meaning.

You are the one who gave it value. The philosopher, I don't even know how to pronounce his name, stoicism, Epictetus, Epictetus, I think it's Epictetus is his name. He said, Facts occur in man's life. But it's man's opinion of the facts that causes the suffering. You think it's the situation, it's not the situation, it's you.

You're the one who threw this whole outdated perspective of it. You're the one who created you did it. Oh, I'm sorry. I apologize. Am I pointing fingers at you? I apologize. You should have been pointing them thumbs at yourself. I apologize in advance. Okay? Do you see how this works? So, so so the other thing that my mother taught me that you can take with you in your life and maybe teach yourself or your kids, my mom always taught me the value of bamboo season.

She taught me the value of bamboo season. So when I told you my mom was patient, she was thorough. Do y'all understand how this works? See, the bamboo has to grow 30 feet up in the air. 30 feet. 30 feet. I don't think y'all understand. I've climbed, I've climbed a pole that was 25 feet. Y'all was on that retreat when we went to uh Miraval in Arizona.

I was scared in the mouth. 25 feet don't sound very high, right? Everything in my life is in reference to 10 feet because a basketball hoop is 10 feet. I'm like, 25 feet? That's only two bat men. I got up that I got about three, I got about eight feet. I said, man, what in the world was I thinking? What was I thinking?

Bamboo grows 25, sorry, 30 feet in the air. But they say you got to water it for 10 years before you ever see it. You gotta water it for 10 years before you ever see it. You have to keep watering it before you ever see how long that is. Think about your goals and your dreams. How many steps, how many failures, how many shortcomings, how many uh setbacks, how many times you have to enter into the pain cave?

How many times you have to do this for you to ever see a glimmer of hope that it's going to happen? A lot of times we get overwhelmed. So my mom always taught me bamboo season. She used to tell me invisible progress is better than no progress. Invisible progress is better than no progress. You know why it takes so long for that bamboo to show itself?

Because it's putting its roots down. It's growing roots. It ain't that it's not growing, it's building a foundation. Good God Almighty. It's building a foundation that it can stand on. So when it gets the 30 feet, it ain't gonna blow over. The same thing is happening in your life. And I apologize if I'm preaching to you right now.

This was not the intention, but I don't think you're trying to hear anything that I'm saying right now. You have so many dreams and so many goals, and the bigger the dream is, the bigger the goal, the further down the roots gotta go. So I'm just telling you, you're gonna have to have a bamboo mindset, meaning don't dig up the seed every freaking week just because you don't see any results.

I've told you, I gave myself two years to run 100 miles. You know why I gave myself two years? Because I know when I probably get to like month six, I'm gonna be like, oh my gosh, why I have to give myself long enough time to be able to work through all of that. So the root is what comes first. Everything has to build the structure, the foundation, the thing that's going to allow it to go that has to come first.

That's the bamboo mentality. But here's what ends up happening. You don't see any results, and because you have unconsciously put your self-worth in results, and because you're not seeing any bamboo, you feel like you're not good enough. There's something wrong with you, and you start to question you.

Oh, you're doing that emotional stuff again. There you go. You starting to look at yourself and think it's something wrong with you inside. No, no, no, hold on, hold on, hold on. Here's the key. Please understand that everything requires a certain amount of energy before it can show itself in the physical world.

Something requires a certain amount of energy for a certain duration for an adequate amount of time before it can show itself in this physical world. So my mother used to always tell me, don't be in a hurry. Do it right the first time. Do it right the first time. We used to, when we go out to dinner or we'd eat dinner, she'd always be the last one on the table.

I remember one time we went somewhere and she got mad because we all got up and left. We all went, we went to the bathroom. We went to the bathroom. Me and my dad and my brother went to the bathroom and then we got in the car and left, and she was still at the table. We thought we were done. Like she was still eating.

We always had a joke like, Ma, you chew so slow. Why you chew so slow? Oh, she's gonna take her time. She ain't gonna be in a hurry. She said, I want to make sure when it gets down to my stomach, it's already chewed up. And that's just a microcosm for all of life, kind of what she taught me. Stop being in a hurry.

Just be thorough. Just be thorough with whatever it is that you're doing. So now here's the deal. That thing that we call tenacity. You're gonna have to want what it is that you're going after. You're gonna have to want it. Oh, I wanna I wanna build this business. Okay, why? Why? Here's what's worked for me.

If you really want to build a business, you ready? You'll do it without the money. Hmm? Uh-oh. Oh no. Wait, wait. Wait. No, no, no, no, no. You're gonna make money, but you'll do it without the money. The money will be the byproduct. It will be the effect that won't be the first cause. See, now when you do that, because here's what ends up happening.

When you seek that that thing, that material thing, it can speed you up. And now you're more focused on the outcome. You're more focused on the results. And now you're not being patient. And now because you're not patient, you can't trust. And now because you can't trust, you're moving from a place of being scurried and hurried, and now you're not being thorough.

And guess what? You'll never get to where it is that you wanted to be anyway. So tenacity, tenacity is having that same exuberance, that same fire in that belly when you started, it's having it in the messy middle without knowing when the reward is coming. I don't know when it's going to happen. I don't know when I'm gonna hit that next level.

I don't know when the bamboo is gonna show itself. But I water that motherfucker every day like I know it's coming. You see, this is a skill set. This is a talent. Everybody's always seeking certainty in this world. See, they want certainty before commitment. Certainty before commitment. This life is asking you to commit before certainty.

I don't think you hear what I'm saying right now. Go start the mother. Go start it and go do it before you have certainty that it's even gonna work and put everything into it. Everything. Everything. Because here's the deal. You know not the day nor the hour when you have to leave this earth. You don't know when your day's coming.

And when your day comes, you don't want to look back on it and be like, dang, I should've. I wish I would have. That's why I'm saying give everything that you have. My son one time, he was at practice one day, he was tired, and I could tell he was just the kids wasn't really the best talent. So he was just scaling back.

He wasn't really trying. A little bit of water break. I said, Come here, come here real quick. Let me talk to you real quick. Okay. I'm not mad at you. I'm not mad at you at all. But let me tell you something. If I catch you out here doing this bullshit again, and you out here just going through the motions, I'm just telling you, you have to deal with some stuff in life at some point.

You have to deal with some stuff. You be like, what the and it could, you don't know how it's gonna show up. It could be an injury. It could be life be like, okay, fine. You don't want to give everything, Chad? Okay, cool. Well what injury? And now you have to sit out and watch everybody. Now see how now you, oh, I wish I could play.

Well, you should have thought about that when you were in the game, when you had the opportunity. So the reason why I'm saying this for you right now, you in the game right now, girlfriend. You in the game, nephew. You in the game right now, so you might as well give everything that you have. This is why I'm telling you, tenacity will be needed.

But here's the deal. Here's the deal, you ready? This is the talent. This is the key. This is the key. This is the talent right here. You ran into a wall 50 times, and you were given everything that you had. And you don't know if you can give it a 51st time, even though that 51st time was gonna be the time that you broke through the wall.

And you did it the 51st time, but you didn't do it with the same energy that you did on the other 50. You're like, oh man, tenacity is saying, when I hit this 51st time, I'm gonna hit it harder than I did the first time. When I wake up today, I'm gonna give more than I had yesterday. When times get hard and adversity comes knocking on the door, me and him are gonna get to tussling way harder than we did last time.

This is what tenacity does. You start using situations as opportunities to allow you to hit the next level. And then here's what ends up happening: you start to build a different relationship to this thing called time. Three months from now it feels like forever. Six months? Oh my gosh, I can't even imagine it.

Right? Oh my gosh, I've been watering this for like five years. Oh, you feel like a failure, don't you? And then here's what you do you start looking around at everybody else. Wow, I can't believe how come they're like, I remember when they had less followers than me, and now look at how many they have.

I remember like when they were now look, they're doing this and they're why don't you keep walking in your garden and keep watering your bamboo? Hmm? You know what the garden was? The garden was your mind. That's where the fertile soil was. How about every day you just water it? Hmm? Because a lot of people they think that they're behind.

People always say, Well, I feel like I'm behind. You ain't behind, you're just impatient. You ain't behind. You exactly where you're supposed to be. And I hope this isn't lip service. I don't want to just keep saying stuff to make you feel good. I'm telling you, you ain't behind. But you're a little impatient.

So that's why I say I'll give myself plenty of time because I know that greatness requires a certain amount of time. And it requires more time. Good God. I don't think y'all hearing anything I'm saying. Greatness requires more time than mediocracy. You can go and be mediocre. Matter of fact, go, go, grow, go grow you a dandelion and go and grow about six.

Six inches up off the ground. You're gonna have weeds in about six weeks. Okay. You wanna you want bamboo? You want 30 feet? You're gonna have to wait 10 years. Some dreams that we have don't necessarily require more effort. They require a longer duration of you giving effort. It just requires you showing up every day.

Every day. This is why I'm gonna look I'm using metaphor. I'm gonna be running. I'm not saying I'm gonna be like Wiz Khalifa. You're gonna see me on Instagram now talking about how I'm a runner now, but you might see me uh doing some stuff talking about running now. I'm gonna use running as this metaphor.

Oh, I'm gonna get there. Oh, I'm gonna do it. I'm gonna do it. See, my job and your job is to create difficulty in being discouraged. Hmm. See, you're gonna get discouraged when you keep watering that bamboo and you don't see anything. You've been putting up shots, you've been working on your game, and you still ain't getting the recognition.

Keep watering your bamboo. Keep watering. See, I can't control, and this is what I've learned. Here's what I've learned. You don't know when the breakthrough's coming. Good God. Oh my god, they hear what I'm saying right now. They just trying to hear nothing. You don't know when the breakthrough's coming.

You don't know. See, you can't control the algorithm. They keep telling you all these quote-unquote experts. Well, here's the algorithm, here's what algorithm don't mean. You don't know, you don't even know when the algorithm you don't know, you don't know. Don't nobody know. See, you can't control how many customers you're gonna have today, can you?

You can't control the economy. You can't control other people's decisions or other people's perspectives of you. But here's what you can control. You can become somebody who makes it very, very, very hard to quit. You can become that, you can control that. So here's how I look at life. I know I can accomplish anything, I know I can do anything.

I know I can. I know I can. I know I can. I'm not just I know I can't. You know how I know I can't? Uh, because I'm not gonna quit. I can deal with the pain of it, I can use this to grow. Uh, what else? And I'm gonna keep showing up. And I can do that every single day. So why can't I do anything? The same goes for you.

And here's what I've learned. The world ain't gonna believe in. Matter of fact, the world ain't going to. Probably. If you do this right, ain't nobody gonna believe in you. They're gonna be like, why she keep watering that bamboo? Why she keep matter of fact, they're not even gonna say why she keep watering the bamboo.

She gonna they're gonna say, why she keep pouring all that water? Why she wasting that water on that dirt? She why she keep wasting that water. She is still in that relationship, she's still trying to make it work, she's still trying to grow that business, even though she ain't getting none of that, she still keep trying.

Why? Because you don't know when that breakthrough is coming. So here's my advice: you better get to pouring that water on that dirt, and you better pour it on them every single day. You better keep pouring. You better keep pouring. You better keep pouring. That's the skill set. We got a generation of kids nowadays growing up.

They don't have they're not learning how to keep pouring. They don't have to keep pouring because I can just, matter of fact, let me call Amazon. Matter of fact, let me just hop on social media. Matter of fact, let me just go. Everything is instantaneous and we're losing this muscle of consistency. I'm just telling you the framework of this universe.

A star is not born overnight in the galaxy. A baby's not born the moment that it's conceived. There is a time, a certain level of energy that is needed. And I watched it. I watched it. I coach kids. I'm like, how come you every time something gets hard and it doesn't go your way, you start crying about it?

Why are you crying? Instead of taking that energy to cry, let's use this energy to dig deep. Dig deep right now. Let's figure out a way to get through this. Let's figure out a way to push through this. I used to look, I used to have practices, right? When I coached my son's AU team, sixth grade, right?

My practices were so difficult and so hard for these 12-year-old boys, the moms would leave. They had a run-in joke. They're like, oh, when practice starts, we gotta get out of here. All the dads would stay in there, but the mom's like, no, we out of here. We cannot sit here and watch our babies go through this.

It was like, it was like I was raising Spartans in 300 or something. It looked like we were, I was raising uh uh uh uh uh the boys of uh Ithaca. We trying to trying to develop some spark. But here's the deal. I told him, I said, look, here's the deal. My job, my job is to push you to a point that you're gonna wonder why you even played basketball.

And then my job is to help you to get through that and give you the tools. And then here's what's gonna end up happening. Once you get through it and you get to the other side, you're gonna walk out a little bit differently. Let me tell you something. For that year that I coached them, we would walk into tournaments and they'd say, Oh crap, there's that team from Indiana.

Because they knew what time it was. We were undersized physically, but we were oversized in our heart. Mentally and emotionally, these boys were some straight mutt dogs. I'm talking about flea bitten. These dogs were, and you knew what it was when we stepped on the court. Why? Because we had prepared ourselves to practice.

So the reason why I'm saying this to you, to get you to understand, it's not that you're never gonna get tired. It's not that life will never be hard. It's you have to remind yourself, I came here for the long game. I'm not playing the short game. I'm playing the long game. I'm just gonna keep showing up every single day.

Okay? And then here's what's gonna end up happening. Of a hundred people, maybe five of them would be left. And you thought you were competing against all a hundred. No, you weren't. There's only five that could probably make it to the level that you made it to. How many times do you see this? Like, man, what happened to them?

Where are they at? And now all of a sudden you seem like you're like, dang, I went past them. How'd I go past? Because you just stuck with it. You kept on watering, you stayed focused. So if it's not working in your life, don't panic. Don't personalize it either. Don't try to make it emotional now. Don't do all that.

Oh, they don't like me. No, no, no, no, no, no. Nope. They don't have nothing to do with it. And don't immediately abandon the vision that you had.

Huh? Study it. Adjust. Recalculate. Learn from it.

Keep moving. I stop asking myself this question, is it working? I don't ask that question anymore because it's very uh very surface level. Instead of asking the question, is it working? The question to ask is, who am I becoming while I figure out how to make it work? That's what we're looking for. So I tell you this: anything that you do, you're gonna have to have a certain level of tenacity.

And you can sit here and you know, sit on a uh uh uh the side of your your mountain and meditate and put your crystals on and just, you know, oh my gosh, like life is so hunky-dory. I'm going on a retreat and I'm gonna do it. At some point, though, you're gonna have to get down and dirty. At some point, you're gonna have to start throwing some hands with life.

At some point, and this is why grit is needed for you to accomplish and do anything for you to get knocked down and stand back up. I'm not afraid to get knocked down. I've been knocked down plenty of times. I think, matter of fact, at this point, I think life is more afraid of me. Huh? I think life is more afraid of me if I'm being honest.

I ain't gonna lie to you. I think life is more afraid. Damn, this mother he's gonna get back up again. Oh my gosh. He's gonna get back up. Yeah, you're right. I will. I had a teammate, he was from uh, where is he from? Greenville, South Carolina, country. Hilarious, right? He'd be like, man, look, we gotta tussle, man.

We touch every wall in here. We will touch every wall. I don't care. We gotta touch every we will. This is how I look at life. If they if we look, if this is what we gotta do, then this is what we gotta do. But here's what I do, I will tell you this. As long as I am here, as long as you are here, you have the opportunity to get back up.

But you cannot feel sorry for yourself. You cannot blame yourself. You cannot say, well, I'm not good enough. No, you are good enough and you're more than capable. But as long as you play the victim, you're never gonna see that inside of you. So here's my challenge, here's my invitation to you. Are you watering that bamboo?

Are you watering that dream? Are you still showing up every single day? See, my whole thing is I'd rather change the strategy before I change the dream. Just because it ain't working, I'm not gonna change the dream. Stay in the game long enough so you can figure it out, though. And I have I have I I have kind of this mentality or this the saying with myself.

I'll quit. I don't want you to think I never quit. I do quit things after I accomplish it, though. Don't you give up and don't you quit until after you do it. I don't like to do the same thing twice. But if I've done it once, this gives us permission to go ahead and throw it up. Alright, we're done. We're done with this.

So keep giving the effort. This is the one thing you do have control over in your life. And I'm telling you right now, I'm in, I mean, I'm in, I'm in day four right now, this hundred-mile training. And I'm telling you, it's it's challenging, it's hard, but I made a commitment to myself, we're gonna show up every single day.

We're gonna show up. And you look, I have a script, just stick to it. Simple. Simple. You know what was funny? Yesterday I was working out, and I said, I'm so sore and I'm so tired. And then I was like, No, you're not. This is just a story that you're telling yourself right now. Because I guarantee you, if somebody said, Hey, we'll give you a billion dollars if you go run 20 miles today, man.

Where do my shoes at? Let's go. I'm out. What we gotta do? Where are we going? Matter of fact, I ain't gonna stretch. You see how quickly this happens. You see, the stories that we tell ourselves so we can just stay put and stay comfortable and stay in this. Nah. So that's the other part of having tenacity.

You will have to turn in your card of feeling sorry for yourself and using excuses. You gotta turn it in. And this is this is, I mean, for me personally, how can I lose now? How can I ever be defeated? You can't. And then it's the adventure of life. Ooh, I like the way I feel today because I did something that was difficult.

You all know it. What are these that created? What are they, endorphins? I don't know what the what the neuro, the chemical is, but you feel like, oh my gosh, I can do anything. You know how it is when you walk around and you feel like you did something. That energy. But the only way to get this is when you can repeatedly show up to do things that are difficult.

So that's my challenge to you in this season that you're in. Do these things that are difficult. Show up for yourself. You ain't gotta be David Goggins. You ain't gotta go run uh the Moab 240, you ain't gotta do all that. It may, you know what it could be, it could be you having a difficult conversation that you've been putting off with people who you can't put boundaries up with.

That may be it right now in this season that you win. It ain't gotta be something physical, but just start there. And then after you have that difficult conversation, you're gonna walk out of there, you're gonna be, huh? What? What'd you say? No, no, no. You're gonna feel a little different about yourself.

You be looking for every matter of fact, I'm putting boundaries up on everybody. If you look at me, I'm putting a boundary on you. If you say something, I'm putting a boundary, oh, easy, easy, not too many boundaries, easy, chill out. But this is the type of empowerment that you're gonna feel because you did something that required grit.

So remember, your greatness resides in tenacity, it resides inside of tenacity, and tenacity is the outer shell of pain. So knowing you do something tenaciously, there's gonna be a little bit of pain involved, but this is you attacking it instead of it coming and attacking you. So y'all keep going. Keep goal wing.

Attack each day. Give it what you have. I don't have to do this in two years. All I have to do is focus on today. That's it. That's all. And then eventually, one day will add up to seven days, seven days will add up to 31 days, 31 days will add up to 365 days. 365 days will eventually add up to whatever 365 times two is.

Okay. I'm not even gonna sit and try to go through this mental math right now. I ain't gonna do it. But you hear me. You hear my point. Go out there and go get life. Life's waiting for you. I'm gonna leave you with the last thing my mom used to tell me. Take it or leave it. She used to tell me if you want something, you're gonna have to go get it.

If you knew your dream was waiting for you, but you had to go and get it, how much differently would you start moving today? It's not that you can't have it, you can have it. You can have the travel, the travel uh business. You can have the coaching business, you can have the salon, you can have everything, but you're gonna have to go and get it.

You're gonna have to leave Ithaca. So you might as well go ahead and get your Odysseus on. And I'll see you on the journey. And as always, you know I wish you nothing but the best on the pathway to your results.
