It's 90210-MG with Jenny Garth and friends. Well, guess who's here with me today, my friend?

I'm really happy to be back. I missed you so much.

Amy, we missed you.

And if anyone's wondering if I've been reading the comments, I have. And let's, we'll say it this way. Some people are going to be happy I'm back and some people aren't. But it's better that some will be, so yay. That's right. Because I got a lot of thoughts, Jenny, a lot.

You've been holding on to some, I feel.

Well, I've watched every single thing, and every time I'm like, oh, I want to talk about this.

We are really plowing right into the thick of it in season eight.

In general, what do you think? We're in season nine, by the way.

Oh, wait. Sorry about that, people.

What do you think just like three episodes in, what do you think of season nine? I think, holy heck.

What?

What?

Is this show, it's like a Melrose Place now. It's so controversial and sleazy.

Yeah, it's better than season eight. I will say that. I do have some flags. A lot of like, we've seen this before. You think?

This episode had two, like at least two.

Yeah, where I was like, we've already seen this. What? Not that long ago.

If I remember it, then it must not have been that long ago.

I think they're underutilizing. I'll say they're underutilizing Janet still, Lindsay. It's like, still. Now she's in the opening credits. Can we get her some action and some storyline?

Yeah.

Not yet.

I think it's coming. I mean, it has to come soon.

Noah just reminds me of Colin so much.

No.

Why?

Who? Colin. Oh, the drug dealer guy. That one? I don't know. He was on my.

Mind for some reason. Well, he's on everyone's mind because of that Taylor Swift video.

Taylor Swift video.

Which I actually thought he was perfect in that video.

He was so good and awful in it.

And also so handsome.

And so, I don't know.

Really handsome.

I just think that's what Colin Farrell's like, but I know it's not.

I think he's like the nicest person alive. He's literally so sweet.

I don't ever want to meet him.

Oh, I've met him. He's so nice. He's the nicest.

Back in the day, when I was divorced, someone tried to set me up with Colin Farrell.

Oh, that would have been a great one.

And I was like, I'm good. I'm not ready for that.

I would have said yes. Tell me when and where.

He was in between someone and someone. I don't remember.

He is really nice. Like just a great dad and the nicest person and so lovely. But good video. Good video. I actually never watch music videos and that one is juicy.

I liked it too.

Okay, so back to Colin, whatever his last name was.

You think Noah reminds you of Colin.

Sometimes I don't know why. I just want to call him Colin.

Just call him Cocaine Colin.

It's just like, kind of messy dudes and noah's better than colin a lot better but i don't i i just cringed at the at the anniversary party cringed.

Well we i clearly we have a lot to talk about you guys we're jumping in to uh let's see what episode this one is this is episode three of season nine dealer's choice aired september 30th 1998 are you up for it.

Amy Valerie Malone does the unthinkable in Sin City. Sophie is playing Steve and feels no pity. David betrays his oldest friend. Donna loses a job when her collaborator plays pretend. Kelly feels jealous over a girl named Susie. Noah gives an anniversary toast, but it's quite the doozy.

Directed by Jeff Melman, written by Douglas Steinberg.

I didn't even understand the Susie thing.

Well, she had a phone. And she thought it was Brandon's phone.

No, I know, but who was Susie? That's what she wants to know. I know, but no one.

That's what Kelly wants to know.

So dumb. I was like, this is dumb. Dumb. Stupid.

Okay. What do you want to talk about first? Because I got a lot to talk about.

Val.

Can I talk about Val first?

Yeah, I think I'm just like, I'm starting to really try to understand the character or why they're writing it. And it's just... A disaster.

I don't know why they would write this. I have no idea. What's her motive?

Do you think she went to Vegas with the intention?

Yes.

And she says she forgives her mom. It's just like she's always play acting. Like she forgives her mom, but really inside she's conniving. Yeah. Why would you? It's just gross. Like why are you sleeping with your mom's fiance? And then they get married. And you saw it. You saw it. Kelly, you saw it.

Kelly saw it because I guess Kelly and Val went to Vegas together.

And were roomies. That makes sense. And then you walk into the room. It's just.

Kelly just says in a moment of weakness, take me with you. I don't think she really meant it.

That was so bonkers, by the way.

But then in five minutes, they were in Vegas.

And you were flirting with that guy who was cute.

He was.

Did you see the dirty line? She doesn't blow on balls or something?

What does that mean? No, she said she doesn't blow on dice. What does that mean?

I don't know. I just thought it was dirty. Why would someone say that? It just seemed dirty.

She doesn't blow on balls.

She said that would have been really dirty.

She doesn't blow on dice. That's not dirty. I don't know what that means.

It was something.

Some people blow on their dice.

I actually just am... I'm really trying to understand Valerie. And she truly obviously has... had such a damaging, horrific childhood, teenage years.

Yeah, but get some therapy, okay? Just, she needs to get some therapy.

They just, they write her so unlikable.

Yes.

And yet, people love her. Like, literally, people love that character.

They just like her to be the bad girl, which I love, but it's hard when you make the bad girl so, so damaged.

Irritating?

No, when you make them so, like you feel bad for them.

Alexis Carrington Colby was a good villain. I have to guess something. Joan Collins. You've never seen Dynasty?

No.

Never watched Dynasty? No. Alexis Carrington Colby and then she married Dexter Dexter. She was a great villain because I kind of loved her.

Valerie is not a great villain. She's a sneaky little slithery one. She says to the guy, what's his name? The new dad?

I don't know, but he seemed so familiar, Bruce Thomas. He was like in everything, Carl.

Exactly, that's what I said.

He is in everything.

He was in this show before.

Oh, then let me work him.

I learned this last week because I was like.

I feel like I know this guy. What episode was he in before? Was he like a detective?

Oh, God. You know what? They told me last week and I can't remember.

I was doing a deep dive on Grant's show talking to Steve Kometko. about Aaron Spelling.

Oh, yeah?

Yeah, you might want to take a peek at that. It was kind of interesting.

Where do you find something like that?

TikTok. Oh, yeah. I think it's a podcast. It's on YouTube, too, but it always comes up in my feed. It's interesting to sort of really try to dig into the behind the scenes of this show, Melrose Place, all the way back, Dynasty, all these shows. Who could do what? I'm side barring. But it was sort of like Brandon and, Brandon, Jason and Luke were able to do more projects outside of the show. And then he didn't really let Grant's show do it. So I was like really enthralled in it.

I don't know.

I'm going to check it out.

You were doing side projects, right? During the summers? Lifetime movies type of stuff? Yeah. Yeah.

I never took a break, I don't think. Okay, so Bruce played Hank Bradley in season six in 1996. And now he's playing Carl Schmidt.

Who was Hank Bradley?

I don't know.

Lorraine, do you know who that was? Like, what character was that? That's what I thought. He was like a copper detective. That's what came back to my mind, too.

A copper?

She's looking. Look.

But I, so she asks for his help to pull up her zipper on her dress.

And he wants to say no. The whole thing was creepy. And also I was nervous about him in the start. And then I thought, no, this guy's going to be a good guy and not do this.

It was just so obviously way over the top awkward that you knew what was coming.

It was a little hashtag like on the nose. Oh, the young... Fiance of her mom. She's going to make a play at him. And the mom doesn't even know. Oh, my God. That mom's so oblivious.

She doesn't know anything. She's never known anything.

Well.

Or if she's known, she's pretended not to.

She admitted she knew what was going on between Valerie's dad. Right. And Valerie. And then he was getting help. And it's just like, ugh. Ugh. Grody. The storyline is rough. Rough. It's really rough.

But she, Valerie, really does intentionally make a move on her mom's finance.

Multiple times.

Finance. How do you say that word?

Fiance.

Fiance. Thanks so much. But I can't believe, it's like, that is, this is the worst I think she's been. She's just intentionally.

Like she's intentionally conniving and awful. Like it's not trauma and damage and she has these behaviors. It's like very calculated. Yep.

Yep. Hank Bradley. He came to town and he tried to convince Joe not to get the surgery.

The heart surgery. Oh, oh, oh, the quarterback, the cutie. Yeah.

Well, look at him now.

That was the brother. God, that seems way long ago. That seems like a hundred years ago. Weren't we in high school then?

I feel like we were. But I think he dated our script supervisor.

Hank?

The more I think about it.

Slash? Carl slash Bruce Thomas. Yeah.

And so I think he was always around, but it was always fun to have him on the show.

Did you guys go to Vegas or was that fake Vegas? Fake Vegas, obviously. Why would you go to Vegas?

I mean, it looked really real.

Good. Yeah. You were playing a lot of craps? Craps? I don't even know how to play craps. No, I play blackjack. I like sometimes will spin the roulette wheel. I have no idea how to play craps.

Yeah. I don't either, but I just fake it.

I won $ 400 playing blackjack. Oh, sorry. I cut you off. Please continue.

Jason was really into playing craps. All the guys were. I just remember a lot of crap talk.

Did you get a craps table on set or would they go to Vegas?

I can't remember exactly, but there was a lot of what you say when you roll the dice.

Oh, give me snake eyes or whatever.

Make it hard or something like that. Give it to me hard, you know. I just, that stuck with me. And it made me not want to play craps.

I like blackjack. I went to Tahoe. We played in South Shore. We went to this golf tournament, which you guys would actually love to go to. The Edgewood Golf Tournament. But I want you to come to a different golf tournament in February, but we'll talk about that.

Got to get it on my books, ma'am.

Yeah, got to get that on the calendar. Blackjack is good. But I walk away. When I win, I... haul ass out of there.

I don't know. As I've gotten older, it was fun to gamble, but now I'm like, dude, I work so hard for my money. I don't want to just gamble it away. That's stupid.

That's why you got to have a limit. So if you think about it like- A hundred bucks. A hundred bucks. Yeah. I did a hundred bucks and I ended up with 400, I think, and I was out of there. Wow. That's such a success story. That was a big one. Yeah, I was out.

I love that.

And then I went to Cinnabon.

And spent your $ 400 on buns?

I love Cinnabon.

She flirts with them and they do it.

Oh, this is, I just thought of a comment that someone said, my side tangents. They hate them. Well, and I just did 10 of them.

Well, they're screwed today then.

Sorry, guys. So anyway, I don't know. What's your, Valerie?

And then when, oh, and then the whole thing about, how could Kelly not be at Donna's parents' 25th anniversary party?

Sorry.

That's her best friend. Why would she just like flit off to Vegas with Val, who she hates?

It's so weird.

And then she just doesn't even get to see. But that felt like a very underplanned anniversary party, I've got to say.

It felt like the exact same party as the debutante party.

Yeah.

I was like, we're at the same location.

Same hors d'oeuvres.

Someone's coming in drunk. Mm-hmm.

Mm-hmm.

And then Dr. Martin allegedly has totally forgiven- Noah, because Noah called him.

The Martians. Meet the Martians.

No, actually, that actually was the best part.

He called the mom Felicity or something. I don't know. I enjoyed all of it.

It was entertaining. He did a good job, the guy that plays Noah. He's likable. That's the thing. He's sort of messy, but likable. And he's got some demons in him. dad committing suicide like it's just awful i don't really see he's really dark yeah i.

Don't really want him to be with donna i'm sorry.

Well guess what your wish will come true yay i she's i just.

Feel like her self-confidence has gone down the toilet you know ever since well it's she's had low self-confidence it feels like.

It's time for the clothing store when do we open.

Yeah now where this has got to be coming.

Got to be because you're out of a gig.

And I feel like Donna's just like, you know, finally going to have, you know, she has another run in with another employee who backstabs her basically.

Oh, my gosh. Okay. Again. Same thing.

This happened with the other girl with the two girls, I think.

And she did it. Remember when she did it?

And then she did it.

Repeat, repeat, repeat. But this time I'm like, who is that girl? I know I know that girl. And it was Jordana Spiro. So like a lot of people know Jordana Spiro from the show My Boys, My Boys on TBS, Ozark.

Who is she in Ozark?

Good wife, mob doctor.

Was she the daughter?

No, she's the one that stole the designs and got the job. No, I know.

But who is she in Ozark? Oh, okay.

I didn't actually remember this. The owner of the Blue Cat Lodge. And she becomes involved in.

The Marty Byrds operation.

Good role.

Good for her.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. No, she's legit, Jordana Spiro.

Yeah, I kind of thought she was a good actress.

Yeah, a lot of people start their careers here with you on 90210. I know.

Isn't it wild?

It actually is wild.

It's pretty cool.

It actually really is.

Because, you know, we were all coming up back then.

Yeah. No, it's actually very, very, very, very cool.

But I do think that Donna is about to step into her.

She's a terrible character on this. Yeah. Yeah.

I think she's about to step into her confidence a little bit more, hopefully. And I just feel bad for Donna. I feel like there's so much shame on her shoulders from whatever.

Her Catholic upbringing.

I want to hold her and shout.

At her, you are good enough.

This has been nine seasons of you not feeling like you're good enough. Come on.

She really likes bad dudes. Because even David was kind of, at the time, sort of like- He did drugs. Then she had poor Ray Pruitt, who just really went sideways. They should have made him great. She should have kept with this quarterback. He was the best. Right. You should have just moved with him.

That would have been cute, and she would have been happy. Taylor Swift and her boy husband.

Travis. I know, Travis. I find them to be a great pair.

Very happy.

Totally. I am totally happy with that.

Wait. Noah says... Someone was saying about drinking and he says to Brandon, what, are you a friend of DW or something? Was there a slang way of saying, are you an AA back then?

Oh, maybe. Great question. I remember that line and thought, huh, what was that?

Yeah.

But yet it seemed familiar.

The code for saying, what, are you an AA? I don't know.

I think. Yeah, somebody's going to need to Google that for us because I do remember hearing that and being like, oh, that is sort of familiar.

Well, I don't know.

Do you know Laura Layton? She is something.

Sophie.

She's sort of less of a criminal now. God, I wanted to talk to you so bad because she's a terrible criminal. The 50 to the 10 is the dumbest.

She's a shyster. That's what she is.

Turning a 50 into the 10 who's not catching that.

The lady in the store that's who.

Dumb how about the restoration hardware do we talk about that the old version of restoration hardware so you know that's where she went and it's like that was when restoration hardware used to have like stuff you could buy instead of just very very very big furniture It was more like frames and like little things, more pottery barn-ish.

Yes, absolutely.

And it kind of evolved.

Into this, whatever it is now.

Very expensive, very cool furniture, but you have to have a mansion to fit it in your house.

It's all very big.

Very oversized. Yeah.

So when Sophie, Sophie is really into David, right? So much. So into him that she says to him, do you have any idea how exciting you are?

Is this the episode with the pool or was that last week? The robe trick was actually pretty good.

You can't talk about weeks that you missed, Amy.

So sorry.

Sorry. You have to stay on track because we here have been through it.

I just don't like the lying that David's such a liar.

He says he'll never lie to Steven.

No, he's just a liar, liar, liar, pants on fire.

He's just lying.

And Steve knows. By the way, did that not look like shooters they went into?

That. Shooters?

That's the bar in Melrose Place. And I'm literally like, are they going into shooters?

No. I literally thought this is not, David would not lie to Steve like this.

No, he would say, hey, dude, I'm so sorry. She likes me. I'm into her. I'm really sorry. Be mad.

And he's had like a couple of opportunities to do that.

How about when he's chasing her in the car? He's like chasing her in the car to give her her books. And then that's, do you remember that? He gets in his car and follows her.

Yeah, yeah. I think I was drying my hair when that was happening.

Steve's too cool to be this desperate for all these gals.

And why are they doing this to him? Like, why are they making him just this.

Puppy dog.

Puppy romantic loser that.

Sleep in the bed and we'll put a line down the middle. Like, what?

Ew. He needs to get a life.

I like that chivalrous he sleeps on the couch, but like, get a girl that likes you. A thousand girls like you.

Because it's clear that Sophie isn't into you. Correct. We can all see it, bud.

Her name is Janet. Just get to that.

Yeah.

What do you think of Sophie?

She says to David, all sexy talk, when I'm with Steve, I think about you. But she isn't with Steve. She's just living off of him and his house.

Not even his house.

Brandon's house.

And the radio gig. That was just so not how it works.

Wait, did you enjoy?

Wait, no.

But this was interesting. Okay, so then the next morning, Steve has caught her. She didn't come home. She didn't sleep in his bed, right?

Yep.

Then he tells her about he's going to go out with some actress named Phyllis Neames.

What was that?

Who starred in a movie called Dead Giveaway. And he met her at the Equator coffee shop. I'm like, what? Am I supposed to retain this information? Does this mean something?

And Brandon just kind of jumps in and is like, you're lying. He's lying. Everybody's lying. Go away. Equator Coffee, though. That's a real coffee place. It is? Yeah, there's one up here, I think. Equator Coffee is a real place. I don't know if it was in LA, but I think there's definitely an Equator Coffee.

It makes absolutely no, it does not track at all that David would lie to Steve's face.

Or that Steve would be this into Sophie. He wouldn't care. He'd be like, I've got a thousand girls. I'm Steve Sanders.

I'm Steve effing Sanders.

Right?

I need to give him a pep talk too.

He's just been way too desperate lately. He was desperate for the married lady, which was weird.

Oh, Donna's always, I'm sorry to go back to the Donna Sreiland, but I feel like she's always calling out on others to help her fix her mess ups. When it comes to her work.

May I make one more comment? She forgot something. When David Silver says, do you want to come in? That was bold, knowing Sophie was in the bed.

I know.

What was she going to hide under the bed if he came in?

I fully believed him that nobody was there.

I did not.

That's how good of a liar he is.

I don't care for the lying. Okay, back to Donna.

No, we already did Donna. Sorry. Sorry.

I thought you were just talking about Donna again.

I was, but I just, it's all so trippy.

I just thought that was so redundant. Like, we've seen this whole stealing the designs, and I didn't get the job, and then I got the job, and I messed up the job. It's just, we've seen the same thing over and over and over and over again.

Yes. But, so apparently the Equator Coffeehouse was an actual place.

In LA too.

But we fictionalized it with our filming there. We filmed there a lot. And it was in Pasadena. The filming location records identify it as Tutu Mills Place in Pasadena, California. I wonder if it's still there.

I don't know, but I've been wanting to drive by the office of the paper a lot. You know where the paper is?

I don't want to drive by that.

I've been wanting to drive by that.

No, thanks. Looks pretty seedy right there. That part of town's not great. There's so many parts of town that aren't that great. Anyway, back to the show. Let's see.

Did we cover it all? The drunk anniversary party interruption.

I think apparently when any guy is upset, they get a gun somehow and they shoot it up in the air again.

How about the police just handing him the gun? Okay, let's start with that. Zero chance of that. That gun is not registered to him. I just found that to be like absolutely no chance. They're not handing over.

A bag or something.

Or not a storage supply. Like, absolutely not. Are they giving him the gun? And how about he shot it off? Yeah. He shot off the gun. When he was just standing next to the blonde girl that got her ear shot off or whatever it was. I know. No way. By David. What is happening?

It's lazy, lazy, lazy writing.

Oh, and then so much over the obituary and the paper and writing the thing. And it goes on page 10-03. Makes my neck hurt.

Yeah, he was kind of willy-nilly, Noah, in this episode.

The whole episode is like.

He's grieving, though.

Good and bad.

Oh, wait, what about my favorite part?

How annoying you are?

No. Kelly, yeah, she's pretty annoying. I don't know what I want her to do.

Stop. I liked her better when she was flirting with the guy.

Yeah, that's like the real Kelly.

That was sort of more Kelly-ish.

But she's still, I feel like they still love each other so much.

Definitely, definitely. Wait, go back to what you were saying and then we'll dig into Kelly. What were you going to say right before that?

Oh, my favorite part was when David was repping. He's like David Silver repping the entire hip hop generation. He did it just like that, too, you guys. From the stage, he was like the DJ. And then he comes off and he's all nervous. Like, I'm losing them, Sophie. How do I do this?

That's not how radio works. Oh, and like he doesn't. Right. Why would he be nervous? He's hosted radio shows before. A thousand million times. And then Sophie goes to the pay phone and the whole zoom in on her lips. Her lips.

That's where she says, do you have any idea how exciting you are? And I burst into laughter. I absolutely burst into laughter.

They're doing Laura Leighton dirty because Sydney was sort of... Right? I understand why they brought her over. They're like, she's not on Melrose. I think Melrose was like ending and... She had left smart to grab her, and I'm sure they promoted it. Laura Layton joins 90210 this Wednesday or whatever, but like, no.

She is a saucy vixen. That's what she is.

Oh, yeah, and then Brandon is so caustic with the New York Chronicle guy. He's so caustic.

Why is he so big- Big Pants. He's so Mr. Big Pants all the time.

Yeah, and then they go to Beverly Hills Hotel, and obviously we're teeing up that he's going to get the job offer, but still.

Wait, they said the offer is for the LA office, but.

Then I think they're going to say.

We love you so much, Brandon. We need you to come to the New York office. We can't live without you. I think that's what they're going to say.

I don't know. Who played Henry? He was cute. Who's Henry?

Henry.

The guy flirting with you with the, what's it called? Don't tell me what that's called. Oh my God, I forgot what it was called. I was in craps.

The crapper, yeah.

I almost want to call it Ricochet.

I don't even see his name in the credits. That is.

Yeah, who played that guy?

That's not very good.

What do I think of this episode?

What do you give it? Last week I gave an eight. Maybe I think it was eight or an eight and a half.

That's pretty high.

I know.

I'm going to give it. I mean, look, it kept my attention. Seven. But it's like, I'm like demoting it because of dumbness. Yeah.

And just like, why?

Oh, bless you. Bless you.

I went away. I almost sneezed. No, but also, but just like, why would they have Val do that?

I don't know. Yeah. And it also is so redundant. Like, once again.

Yes. I don't know. I'm going to give it a six.

I think we're two episodes away from Dylan. What? Yeah.

Dylan comes back? In season nine?

In like two episodes, yeah.

Oh my God.

I think Brandon's going to leave. Brandon leaves in like two episodes and then literally Brandon leaves and enter Dylan. Obviously smart. Oh no. Yeah, we need him so bad. We need him so bad.

What's going to happen?

I don't know. Vanessa Marcel's coming. There's some messiness still. I know, yeah. No. There's some rough characters.

Sorry, did I say that out loud?

I know. It's not about Vanessa Marcel. It's about the character was kind of like, because they date. I don't care for that.

I was just happy that jordana spiro was on this show and then to see.

Her we're gonna get matt soon so much.

Later in life and and have hurt this career like.

Oh i know i know i love that these people start their i mean hillary swank.

Hello christina aguilera i go.

Back and really actually thought hillary swank was quite good on this show i know we talked about it and.

We've you talked constant shit about.

Her No, no, I never did. I said they didn't write the character likable at first. Likable. And that's why everyone sort of didn't like her. But then it got so good, I was actually bummed she left.

Yeah, well, she did.

Some bad decisions, yeah. And she went on to Oscar.

Yeah, Greener Waters.

Joe Michael Burke played Henry in Uncredited, which I don't know why would it be Uncredited when he had a big part.

Is that the expression, moving on to Greener Waters?

Pastures. Ah, pastures.

I feel like this is more like a vocabulary lesson for y'all.

That are listening. Menopause is hard. Sometimes the words are just like not there. Not there. Yeah, it's true. Somebody on TikTok said, I can't get the words. I talk around it. I talk around it. And then someone else said, the dirt spoon. They couldn't remember a shovel. The dirt spoon.

That's the perfect way to express it.

What happens next week? So we have two more episodes with Brandon.

Oh, my God. And that's it?

Yeah. It's a bummer, but like, uh.

Time to go.

Yeah.

What about when Brandon went to the mom's house of Noah's? And her husband just shot himself and he says to her, I noticed that your husband wasn't smiling in any of the family photos.

Strangest comment.

Kind of rude.

Yeah.

Well, that's it. We gave it a six and a seven. It's not a winner, winner, chicken dinner.

No, it's a kind of. You know what?

I'm excited for what's coming. Next week, we have season nine, episode four. Don't ask, don't tell.

Oh, boy. Wow.
