From the St. Ignatius Chapel at the Manresa Jesuit Spiritual Renewal Center in Pickering, Ontario. The National Catholic Broadcasting Council presents the Sunday TV Mass.

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. The grace and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of the Father, the friendship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Welcome to the celebration of the Sunday TV Mass on the 28th Sunday in ordinary time. I am Father Michael Coots.

The televising of this Mass is made possible by a contribution from three donors. The first is Amelia Fernandez and a family from Scarborough, Ontario, in memory of her husband Joseph, known as Josie, who passed away four years ago. The second is an anonymous donor from Tramping Lake, Saskatchewan, in loving memory of Bert Lang, who passed away on the 12th of October, 2024, Pamela Lang, who passed away on December 16, 2025, Bill Hirschmiller, who passed away on December 14, 2025, and in memory of the deceased and members of the Lang and Hirschmiller families.

The third is Harrop family from Halifax, Nova Scotia, in loving memory of their mother and wife, Rita Harrop, who passed away on Divine Mercy Sunday in 2025. Rita was a prayer warrior, a loving wife, and a mother of four daughters. She is greatly missed. Our thanks to the donors for the gift of this Mass.

And as we prepare ourselves now to celebrate this Eucharist, let us ask God to forgive us our sins. Lord Jesus, you are the Prince of Peace. Lord, have mercy.

Lord have mercy.

Lord Jesus, you are the light to the nations. Christ have mercy. Christ have mercy. Lord Jesus, you are the salt of the earth. Lord, have mercy.

Lord have mercy.

May Almighty God have mercy on us. Forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting life. Amen. Let us praise God as we say. Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of goodwill. We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you. We give you thanks for your great glory. Lord God, Heavenly King, O God Almighty Father, Lord Jesus Christ, only begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sin of the world.

Have mercy on us. You take away the sin of the world. Receive our prayer. You are seated at the right hand of the Father. Have mercy on us. For you alone are the Holy One. You alone are the Lord. You alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen. Let us pray.

May your grace, O Lord, at all times go before us and follow after, and make us always determined to carry out good works. We make this bread through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God forever and ever.

Amen. A reading from the book of the prophet Isaiah. On this mountain, the Lord of hosts will make for all peoples a feast of rich food, a feast of well-aged wines, of rich food filled with marrow, of well-aged wines that rained clear. And he will destroy on this mountain the shroud that is cast over all peoples, and the sheet that is spread over all nations.

He will swallow up death forever. Then the Lord God will wipe away the tears from all faces, and the disgrace of his people he will take away from all the earth, for the Lord has spoken. It will be said on that day, lo, this is our God. We have waited for him, so that he might save us. This is the Lord for whom we have waited.

Let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation. For the hand of the Lord will rest upon this mountain. The word of the Lord will be.

Your rod and your staff, they comfort me. I shall dwell in the house of the Lord, my whole life. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil, my cup overflows. I shall dwell in the house of the Lord my whole life.

A reading from the letter of Saint Paul to the Philippians. Brothers and sisters, I know what it is to have little, and I know what it is to have plenty. In any and all circumstances, I have learned the secret of being well fed and of going hungry, of having plenty, and of being in need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me.

In any case, it was kind of you to share my distress. My God will fully satisfy every need of yours, according to his riches and the glory in Jesus Christ. And to our God and the Father be glory forever and ever. Amen. The word of the Lord.

May the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ enlighten the eyes of our heart that we might know the hope to which we are called.

And with your spirit.

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew. Glory to you, O Lord. Once more Jesus spoke to the chief priests and Pharisees in parables The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who gave a wedding banquet for his son. He sent his slaves to call those who had been invited to the wedding banquet, but they would not come.

Again he sent some other slaves, saying, Tell those who have been invited, look, I have prepared my dinner, my oxen and my fat calves have been slaughtered, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding banquet. But they made light of it and went away, one to his farm, another to his business, while the rest seized his slaves, mistreated them, and killed them.

The king was enraged. He sent his troop, destroyed those murderers, and burnt their city. Then he sent his slaves. The wedding is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy. Go therefore into the main streets and invite everyone you find to the wedding banquet. Those slaves went out into the streets and gathered those whom they found, both good and bad.

So the wedding hall was filled with guests. The gospel of the Lord. In the musical Oliver, we hear those beautiful words. Food, glorious food, hot sausage and mustard. And while we are in the mood, cold jelly and quest and custard. And what is the next question? In digestion. When I our good friend Isaiah invites us to the heavenly banquet, you have glorious pictures, well-aged wines.

You can picture them in the Cedars of Lebanon and Marrow, a veritable cholesterol time bomb. But like in the question of Oliver, there won't be any indigestion, there won't be any side effects, and there will be no hangovers as a result of this glorious banquet. And the people of Israel expected it. They had kept the Torah, they had observed the Sabbath, they have followed the traditions.

Christians today expect the same to be invited to the heavenly banquet because they keep their Sunday obligation, they keep the commandments, they live the beatitudes, they follow Matthew 25. When they find people hungry, thirsty, in prison and sick, they visited them. Isaiah's banquet is glorious. There will be no more tears or suffering, no more sorrow or hard work, no more slavery or cruel bosses.

It's a beautiful banquet that is prepared by the Lord for a people of Israel who were a military non-entity. They were being bullied by the Assyrians from Mesopotamia to the north, from the Babylonians from Mesopotamia to the south, by the Egyptians to the west. And these were bullying the people of Israel.

And Isaiah said, Trust in the Lord. But the people of Israel did not trust in the Lord. They did not heed Isaiah. But Isaiah was laying a seed for a future generation of Israelites. And although he had no vision of you and me, it was also a seed of great hope for us when we live in a world that is so chaotic.

We have world wars in Israel and Gaza and Russia and Ukraine. And we have economic wars with tariffs all over the place. And yet we can't blame presidents and prime ministers because it's the oligarchs that are ruling the place. And they are moving the rulers of these places like puppets on a string.

But like the glacier that fell in Nepal and destroyed everybody, our own civilization will fall apart unless we take care of the weakest in our society, the neediest in our society. They are welcome to the table of the Lord. And Paul in the letter to the Philippians says the same thing. Whether you were in good times or in bad, in sickness or in health, be trusting in the Lord.

A great song that has given me great hope is the former Jesuit Daniel Shute. Blessed be the Lord, blessed be the Lord. The God of mercy, the God who cares. I shall not fear the dark of night, nor the arrow that flies by day. The gospel picks up the same story. A wedding feast which signifies a heavenly banquet.

The ironic thing is it's a wedding feast, but the bride and the bridegroom have no part in the whole story. It's the king and the guests who are invited. Now, when you're invited to such a prestigious event, you should have a sense of awe, a sense of can it actually happen to me? Who am I? I'm an ordinary person.

But instead of that, they could not care less. Very recently, in the few months ago, we had the FIFA Soccer International Games. And people from Mexico, America, and Canada worked together in this great sense of joy and happiness and sports. Unfortunately, we seem to be fighting against. But at that given moment, it was a prize to get a ticket for any of these great matches.

Thousands of dollars were spent. And when somebody got the ticket, you'd say, actually, am I getting it? And these people got the invitation from the king. And what did they do? One said, I have to go out for a farm, I have to go out on a business, I have got other things to be interested in. I can't come for it because I have to watch Downtown Abbey or Three's Company, a program.

How banal! When you see the contrast between the invitation and the excuses that are given. We come to a Lord who cares for us. I shall not fear the dark of night or the arrows that flies by day. Matthew was writing this at a time when Jerusalem was destroyed and the temple was in ruins. And Matthew says, this is going to happen.

It's not a punishment from God, it's a logical thing when you leave God out of the picture. And so if we don't want to have that chaos and confusion in our life, let's put God at the center, and then everything will fall in place. God bless you all. Would you join me now as we make our act of faith? I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.

He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting.

Amen. For all those in our daily TV Mass Prayer Intention Book, we pray to the Lord. Lord, hear our prayer. Let us pray that during this month of the Rosary, families may gather in prayer, finding it a source of strength, unity, and love for their daily lives. We pray to the Lord. Lord, hear our prayer.

We pray for our sponsors, for the repose of Josie Fernandez from Scarborough, for Bert and Lang and Bill Hirschmiller from Tramping Lake, Saskatchewan, from Rita Harop from Nova Scotia, we pray to the Lord.

Lord, hear our prayer.

For Pope Leo's intention for the month of October, for collaboration between different religious traditions, we pray to the Lord. Lord, hear our prayer. We make all these prayers through Christ our Lord.

For our good and good of all his holy church.

Accept, O Lord, the sacrifice, the prayers of your faithful with the sacrificial offerings, that through these acts of devotedness we may pass over to the glory of heaven through Christ our Lord. The Lord be with you. And with your spirit. Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

It is right and just. It is truly right and just our duty and our salvation, always and everywhere, to give you thanks. Lord, Holy Father, Almighty and Eternal God, for we know that it belongs to your boundless glory that you came to the aid of mortal beings with your divinity, and even fashioned for ourselves a remedy out of mortality itself, that the cause of our downfall might become the means of our salvation through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Through him the hosts of angels adore your majesty and rejoice in your presence forever. May our voices join with theirs as we acclaim.

Holy, holy, holy Lord God of hosts, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

Make holy, therefore, these gifts by sending down your spirit upon them like the dew fall, so that they may become for us the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. At the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion, he took bread and giving you thanks, broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, Take this, all of you, and eat of it, for this is my body which will be given up for you.

In a similar way, when supper was ended, he took the chalice, once more giving thanks. He gave the chalice to his disciples, saying, Take this, all of you, and drink from it, for this is the chalice of With my blood, the blood of the new and eternal covenant, which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins.

Do this in memory of me.

The mystery of faith. For by your cross and resurrection, you have set us free.

Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection, we offer you, Lord, the bread of life and the chalice of salvation, giving thanks that you have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you. Humbly we pray that partaking of the body and blood of Christ, we may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit.

Remember, Lord, your church spread throughout the world and bring her to the fullness of charity, together with Leo, our Pope, Francis, our bishop, all the clergy, and those yearning for God. Remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection, and all who have died in your mercy.

Welcome them into the light of your face. Have mercy on us all, that with the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, with Blessed Joseph, her spouse, with the blessed apostles and with all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages, we may merit to be co-heirs to eternal life and praise and glorify you through your Son, Jesus Christ.

Through him, with him and in him, O God Almighty Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor is yours forever and ever. Amen. At the Savior's command, informed by divine teaching, we now dare to say, Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, from every evil. Graciously grant peace in our day, that by the help of your mercy we may be always free from sin, safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope, the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Lord Jesus Christ, who said to your apostles, peace I leave you, my peace I give you. Look not on our sins, but on the faith of your church, and graciously grant a peace and unity in accordance with your will, who live and reign forever and ever.

Amen. The peace of the Lord be with you always. Let us share with one another a sign of this peace and friendship.

You take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us, Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us, Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world. Grant us peace.

Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the world. Blessed are those who are called to the supper of the Lamb. Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed. May the body and blood of Christ bring us and all our dear ones unto life everlasting.

My Jesus, I believe that you are present in this holy sacrament of the altar. I love you above all things, and I passionately desire to receive you into my soul. Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, come spiritually into my soul, so that I may unite myself wholly to you now and forever. Amen.

We entreat your majesty most humbly, O Lord, that as you feed us with the nourishment which comes from the most holy body and blood of your Son, so may we make us sharers of your divine nature. We make this prayer through Christ our Lord. Amen. The Lord be with you and with your spirit. May Almighty God bless you, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Amen. The Mass has been celebrated. Go in peace.

Thanks be to God. Our thanks to our donors for the gift of this Mass.

We have every sleep. We have Jesus. We have
