Oh no, I'm in the dark. I don't see my water in Darkest Night. Hello, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome back to the final Green Lanterns, or fuck, it's the show they call Green Lanterns, Lanterns Season 1 review. This is the Season 1 finale. I am, as usual, the Clown Prince of Podcasts. Couldn't think of anything else. We're going with the classic OG, inspired by DC. I am back with the returning... I.
Am the Slim Fingers. taylor field i got my john stewart you gave me this for his birthday.
Oh yeah yeah i i got one but not that exact same suit one time we got one at john stewart one but his is like a it's like a gray variant of the suit i should have got one out yeah it's like it's more like a like a black and gray so i don't know what the idea was for sure yeah or no sorry yeah green and gray he wasn't just black and gray no he's gray and green yeah they took the green land it's like the shows is inspired by the show like no green whatsoever uh but yes as you can hear taylor is back thank goodness the last two weeks i've held it down But here we are tonight to talk about Lanterns.
It is over. We've been here for about eight weeks now. So as usual, we're going to get right into spoilers in a second. So if you've not seen the finale, bow out. Because I don't think there's too much to say non-spoilers at this point. I don't think you'd be listening... if you're that far along. That's Hal Jordan flying over.
That's Jon Stewart taking his first flight. Hi, Jon! There's a new oath, but yeah, we're going to break down that. We've got a big DC kind of month coming on, because you guys just did Clayface Predictions last week, you and Kirkland on Weekly Geek, so check that out. We have this, obviously. We are going to be this week today.
I'm very excited. Tune in to the episode. It will drop for public people the first episode, but then after it's going to go on Patreon until a while, but we're going to be starting our review for the batman the animated series the you know we've done you weren't a part but we did spider-man we've done x-men done clone wars it's gonna be another big anime retro but this is arguably for the in the 90s animated stuff was like the creme de creme like the crown jewel the 90s stuff and we're getting ready for clay face which we will be here for and then the other thing most importantly there's some other things we'll plug along the way but the most important thing is november 7th 9 a.m pst we're gonna be staying up for 24
hours straight raising funds for bc children's hospital we got a goal of a thousand dollars we got some very fun unlocks that we're probably going to reveal in the next well not probably we will be revealing in the next few weeks uh it's our 10th extra life so we're going to try and uh we're doing multiple events from the past i've tried to look at extra life from what we've done like hey what can we do here what we do there take from there trying to get as many guests as possible obviously that's always tough but uh it's going to be a good time where we always try to go out we try not just make a live stream we try to make it a spectacle and we're trying even more so for the 10th we did A huge, I think, spectacle on what we
can do for our GV10 year. We're trying to do that for the Extra Life 10th event. It's not the 10th year technically, but it's the 10th one. So it's a little bit different. But check out that. The link is now down below. So you can donate. If you want to wait until the unlocks and stuff, I understand.
But donate now. Get us that gold. There's going to be some fun stuff going on. All donations are tax deductible.
Jesus!
And they all go towards families and kids in need. If you go to that link, it gives you the whole description of where the money goes, what it does, what it provides. So we'd very much appreciate it. And join us that day. If you can't donate, share the link, like the video. That helps. We've had this almost every year.
where people donate, and we don't even know them, you know, that's how we fucking met Film Junkie, because he saw what Scott was doing, oh, they're doing a good thing, and then he donated and whatnot, so that's where, if you can't donate, just join us and push us in that algorithm, just like we're gonna push through to this review, Taylor Field, obviously give a very brief, you know, elevator pitch of your thoughts of the last weeks, but then your thoughts on the finale, you can go full spoilers, just your overalls, but, so your mini thoughts, and then Were you satisfied with this ending? Did you love it?
Did you hate it? Were you in the middle? Where are you with how Lantern Season 1 ended?
Oh, man. It stuck it. I'm exponentially satisfied with this. And I was worried because I thought, okay, we're like 25, 30 minutes in. And I was like, oh, you know, I'm not quite there. But then when you get to the end, I feel like it's all good. You know, it wrapped it up nicely. And I am so satisfied.
And I want more. I really, really do. You know, the last couple episodes, because, yeah, I didn't see them live. Obviously, I was on vacation. And so when I got back, I did both of them back to back. And I was just absorbed into them. I was eating it up. I loved just the kind of like the tribulation of just the waitress now, you own 300 grand and all this.
All the little things are just kind of piling up. It was a shit day for Jon Stewart, you know, his dad.
Shit.
Just losing it, shooting his gun off in the, in the old folks home. And the girl saying, I'll tell the, I'll tell the sheriff, Carrie, you know, everything. If you don't give me the money, all this stuff, just, he was having a bad go about it. Especially when he showed up at Al Jordan's house and that shotguns pointed at the door, like, God damn. But, um, no, everything like whether it's flashbacks or just present day stuff, I, I'm, I love how well this dealt with the dynamic of having different points in time with different characters. Uh, but, um, Considering this episode, they kind of add.
I won't say it, but they unveil something about someone in this episode. I feel like that's a huge narrative plot point. But it's not something that I would ever think you would do in the finale of the season, but they did it. And then still, everything is wrapped up in a nice bow, and I can appreciate where things went and how things kind of naturally... took shape and I just, I'm very satisfied with it. So I'm, I'm super stoked. This has just been an awesome show.
And what was the other thing I wanted to say too? Um, the, the, the thing in question, I feel like I fucking, I don't want to say I fucking called it, but I feel like I was talking about, I need to go back and revisit.
One of the, you were right on who killed how I'll say I was. No, you weren't.
No, no, no, not about the killing of Hal, but about a certain, like, genetic, you know, thing, like, down the family tree.
Yeah, the manhunter part.
Yeah, yeah. We're not spoilers.
You're fine.
Yeah, I feel like I fucking, I was seeing it. I was seeing that shit a little bit. Yeah, but, you know, fuck, it was a great episode. And I keep telling people to watch the show.
I really do.
And then every once in a while, someone's like, oh, I've already been watching it. Like, oh, it's so good. I'm like, yeah, it's so good.
Yeah.
Um, but, uh, I, I just, fuck, I want more of this show. I really, really do. So I hope that season two happens. And also more of the dynamics between like Guy Gardner. Like I, I appreciate, like, cause I wasn't sure how we're going to get, um, what kind of version we're going to get of him. Cause I thought, oh, we're going to get more of that Superman version. The Superman version, like he's fine, but he's just way too over the top and too comedically cheesy. Yada, yada, yada.
His version in here, they brought it down. And the episode where he first appeared and he brought the ring and the uniform for Hal as Jon Stewart's like request and whatnot. He was great in that episode. And again, in the finale, fantastic. He has that certain level of just like when he's being told he's like an errand boy and he's just kind of like. like you see him working it out in his mind, and it's just his facial expressions, like he's got that degree of that comedy that is in the movie, but again, like I said, it's brought down to earth a little bit, and I really do enjoy this version of Guy Gardner's Lantern a lot, yeah, so I just, it's hard for me to pinpoint any cons, I'm just, I'm gonna say it again, I am so
fucking satisfied with this ending and this finale, I want to go back and go back Black? Oh, yeah. That's what the show did.
You're Hal Jordan. Yeah. That's what the show did, man. I want to be black.
I want to be just like John. When I grow up, I want to be John Stewart. He's going to show up. No black face, but he's going to be wearing like John. For Halloween, he's going to be wearing the John Stewart. Just lanterns with the outfit and everything.
I'll do Hal. I'll do Hal.
Yeah.
Yeah. But yeah, no, it was just, yeah. I'll end it there. Fantastic show.
Yeah. Yeah. Well, I think that you and me are going to be divided much like everybody else is.
Oh, no.
So, no, no, no, yeah. To prompt the banks, I do not think this is a Peacemaker 2 situation. I was in no way like, man, they didn't stick the landing. And I don't even think this is a bumpy thing. Like, I guess it's what your definition of stick the landing is, right? Because I saw our Discord, which was already mixed, and then I saw online when I was getting the show where I was like, okay, it's already mixed, where it is a gamut of people that really disappointed, were all right on it, you know, All Right to Fine, and then, like, Loved It. I think I'm in, like, the middle of All Right to Loved It to, like, It's Fine. I think it's interesting, right? Because usually when people say, did it stick the landing? That's like, oh, it's a great
show up until the ending. It is the ending great. And it's not that I can't say the ending's great, but I am with the people where I felt, like, a little undersatisfied. I was not expecting, like, a huge, massive Green Lantern battle or anything, right? I did think we maybe could have got, like, a little theatrics with uh, John and, uh, uh, guy, I think that could have been a little fun. I'm not saying like an 18, five minute battle, just like a couple of things, you know, just to show it off a little bit. That's where I do feel like, you know, I know sometimes people go, well, that's their vision. I do understand. Uh, and that's exactly what they want to write. But it is again, where just sometimes the show just really feels like, yeah, we
don't have the, we don't have the funds to do like the full green lantern stuff, right? We didn't get too much in this show. We got spurts of it, of course. And that attack on Rushville is obviously the biggest one. So, it's tough because I think they stuck the landing where there was reveals that were surprises. There's, you know, good dialogue and good character motivation and arcs and everything. I think it just, the whole episode kind of felt like a Game of Thrones episode where the massive thing happens in episode seven and episode eight's the cool down, right? But the thing is, that like, it's a weird season. That's where I'm excited to watch it again at some point. Cause the massive thing happened like
three episodes ago.
Right.
Well, rush film, the town attack and everything.
And I don't like, I.
Really don't know. I feel like with this show, it's tough to, where they could have gone as far as like placing where Hal would have died. I wonder how I'd feel if Hal died later on the season and this would have felt like a cool down. But this whole episode felt like a big cool down. And I know they talked a lot like, hey, we want this to be like True Detective, a crime story, big mystery, da-da-da-da-da.
And even in True Detective, though, like that finale when they're solving it, they're catching the killer, there's like a rush there, right? I just never felt like a rush in this episode. It's not like the stuff that I was having wasn't bad, like all this. There's definitely some things that are still... iffy in this episode. I think that's one thing that I can say with the finale before we break the, break it down. I think the last few episodes where, and I told everybody, I want everybody to fucking walk back in the chat. You already see Mike. Mike, I want to talk to you at some point. Everybody, episode two is like, oh, it beats Daredevil.
It's going to be Watchmen. I've, like Loki, I in no way. I think if you're doing the echelon of shows, there's the S tier. I could see people making an argument for this being an A tier. Absolutely. But I think this didn't go to the same lengths they said I would put on Watchmen or Daredevil or Loki or Legion.
It's Daredevil for me.
No, no way.
I haven't seen Watchmen, though.
Not season one, not season one Daredevil, no way. That's like a perfect, because here's the thing for me, and you were talking about this too, obviously they have a writer's room for season two, the show's been doing well, I think they will greenlight it, but that's the thing where I didn't feel like the, I felt like some things were complete, but not the whole, like, it feels very much like a you gotta see season two sort of deal, right? And, I guess I'm always a preference with these shows that aren't procedurals. I'm always a preference of Daredevil could have ended in season one. Would have sucked, but it could have ended there, right? Dexter, the good season of Dexter, used to do that. You could end
it at that season, then, if you get more great. Where this, you can't end it, but it feels like there's still a lot left to be unsaid. So I think there's little issues. And, yeah, I still really enjoyed it. And it's funny, because I said... before with the DCU said like oh I don't have anything I love in the DCU and Lanterns was that Lanterns is definitely number one with a fucking bullet I don't know if I can say I fully love it but I think I'm gonna need to do a rewatch that's on DCU remember oh that's reused no and no same thing I would put Penguin over this easily fucking in my sleep lay up I like this finale but there's nothing like that last scene with Penguin and where that fucking hench guy
was remember the young guy I forgot his name, but you know what I'm talking about, right? That scene. Oh, we're going to see the work off the man.
Oh, right. That was some good. That was good.
Yeah. And that's what I mean. Like the finale for me was just missing something like that. Like nothing, nothing sticking with me. And even to the, and we'll probably get into how's killer first.
What if, what if, what if John went with the kill? What like the person asked, but that would have put you the same with penguin or penguin. I don't know.
Cause I feel like he would, he would just been like, You ready? Yeah, I'm ready. And she's like, that happens a lot on the show. We talk about it. We talked about this last night at fucking Lumen's on Halloween. He's either 1,000 or he's zero. A lot of times on the show, same thing. I guess I'm going to turn myself for killing hell. No, he wouldn't want that.
I'm not even saying that's a bad choice, because he's not wrong, but I just feel like it's a lot of like, oh, what's going to happen? He's like, okay, that's happened. And then that's it. So I need to sit with it for a bit, but I definitely feel, I definitely would say underwhelmed and then more disappointed, but I can see that it's already a talking point. And there's, of course, other things too, right? Where, of course, it's like, I got to read this fucking quote that's going around here that already people are sharing. I share in the Discord.
This was, when did he say this? I don't mean to always bash on the guy, but This was October last year. James Gunn said, The Lanterns is connected to the Peacemaker and Salvation storyline. The Lanterns is very connected to all that. It may not seem like it, but it is all very connected. And remember when they introduced this, they were like, Oh, this is going to set up the next big mystery in the DC Universe story. it doesn't feel like that. So this is what I'm conflicted on.
I feel like the show ends in a way where like, Oh, you need season two, but then it's like, it doesn't also feel like it has to bleed into the DC universe. Like it's going to, to me, it feels a little odd that the next time we see Jon Stewart is he's just going to be flying around man to more like helping Superman, you know? Like, I feel like we need another, like we'd need season two.
Private contractor.
Yeah.
When he said it's like, so private contractor, it's going to like, like, I don't know, like be in the world. It's like, I mean, I have to see how that goes. And like you mentioned with guy, cause I was in full green and green with you. I don't know if you, I don't think you listen to any reviews, but I attribute to like, remember how in Lexington peacemaker and that felt really weird. But when guys in lanterns, he felt the same as Superman, but just like a little muted.
So it felt like it still felt like him, but just in a different context, I'm, I'm not, I don't want to say this. I'm not scared. I have my whole life and everything, but like, I, How are you feeling about Jon Stewart directed by James Gunn, directed and written by James Gunn in Man of Tomorrow?
You say you're not scared. Were you afraid James Gunn writing a black character?
No, I was going to say I'm scared, but no, what the fuck.
Are you talking about? I don't know. I couldn't tell where you were going with that.
He did great with Mr.
Terrific.
I'm saying is I don't want what happened. I don't want a character that I'm loving like Jon Stewart to go over there and be like, oh, like, his big screen debut, if he's handled differently. I don't want him to go over there and lose some of the lantern stuff. I see what you mean.
I was going a different way with that.
No, I'm not. No, again, I got no personal issues with James Gunn. He's at times a great writer, but he just has different sensibilities. I feel it's odd that Jon Stewart is going to go from this show to Man of Tomorrow. We didn't get the suit, which it's fine, but we're going to just... It's going to be weird where this show is so muted and so detective heavy, and then he's just going to fly up to Superman and be like, I'm here to fight Brainiac.
I don't know. Yeah, I see what you're saying. I need to see it. It's going to be such a change. Yeah, because he's going to have the suit. He's going to have all this stuff going on. And again, I feel like there's a lot to kind of cover in terms of his lantern specifically. And again, we'll break more of that down too.
Because I mean, that's... That's season two stuff though, I bet, right? They're not going to touch that man tomorrow.
Yeah, but I just feel like that's something you'd have to have covered... Like, okay, you get a season two and a season two, you're going to be like, okay, this is going to take place between season one and Man of Tomorrow. You know, if that's fine, then sure. But I don't think it'll be that. I think it will take place after Man of Tomorrow, which I don't want.
Because again, that lantern, you know, it had some, there's some yellow shit going on in there and that needs to be talked about. That's a very significant fucking thing, especially from where it came from. But that being said, and again, I was getting like flashbacks to Ryan Reynolds' Green Lantern movie. But anyways. I think that in terms of what you're asking or not asking what you're saying about with Gunn and his character. Yeah, I think that him in his comedic approach. I worry about Jon Stewart being a little bit too comedic because I feel like, OK, there was there was a little bit of that beat that was struck in here where he was landing on those comedic moments. And I enjoyed it. But I feel like, OK.
It's not gun comedy.
It's not gun comedy, but James Gunn can see that as like his gateway into this character. Like, Oh, I know how to write a character like this. Then, you know, he's funny in these scenes. I'll just like, I'll, I'll double down on all of that. It's like, I don't want that. I don't want that at all. But I mean, a lot of people probably aren't going to, I don't think of the GA is really going to be engaging with this show. So they've seen the movie. They know Guy Gardner's out there. So they're going to watch Man of Tomorrow and be like, okay, here's another Green Lantern.
That's fine. That's great. And they're just going to kind of roll with it. If the GA turns out to go see it, which they didn't for Supergirl.
So I guess it's just a, They'll still see Superman. I don't think it's going to have Supergirl numbers, but I think like for me, I wonder too, like that's, and I guess that's like, we just don't know how it goes to me. It's just like Punisher, right? If you, if you're only at exposure to Punisher is brand new day and then you go watch those shows, very different character.
Like John Bertholdt still playing Frank Castle, but like the tone's different and everything. And that's why it's just like, I don't know what people want.
Right.
So if they're going to see green light, like, It's just that they see Jon Stewart. He has a fucking sledgehammer and he's doing these chains and he's doing all this stuff and he has a cool-ass suit. And they go, oh, how did he start? And then they go watch Lanterns. Like, it does definitely feel like an origin, like, series. It just is so different that I'm very curious how it works with one another there. So, yeah, we'll go, we'll start going point to point. And I guess let's circle back because you were talking about, let's start where, kind of where we got from where the beginning of this episode was. with sinestro um we started there or we ended there last week we started there which was funny
because like the way sinestro was talking it sounded like i didn't know if he knew how was dead or not at first but then he clarified that how's dead and yeah that's what i want to ask you he talks about like hey no uh you know he's the man hunter he you know he killed how we'll get into all that later yet today he has his plan x y and z right and he's got forged in this lantern And John looks at it. And this is not a con. So if people are worried about the way I'm talking, I'm just like, I'm curious where they're going to go with it. But he looks at his lantern.
And it's all, like, cracked. And it's yellow. So clearly it's messed up. Clearly it's all feared with everything like that, right? Or something with that. Something with the gas. And then John's like, oh, well, it's all infected and everything. So at the end, when he's talking to the guy, he's like, yeah, I got this lantern. And it's like a contraband lantern.
It's made of everything. Like... Like, he didn't, like, that's a huge risk, I feel like, right? Because even then, like, does he charge the ring before or after Guy gets there? It's after, right? I think.
It's after. Yeah, it's not charged.
So, like, what happens if he gives his big speech to Guy, right? And he charges it and he's like, oh! like, right on the spot. It, like, destroys him. Like, I thought it was a very kind of, and maybe it is a con now. It was bold and maybe too big of a leap for John to take from you without knowing everything about it. Because, like, yeah, what if it just, like, killed him on the spot? What if, like, Sinestro took his life force? Like, I don't know. It was, that's a very risky thing to do. And Sinestro, not a trustworthy guy, you know?
Not a, I would say he's not trustworthy if you're a team guardian, but you oppose the guardians, right?
You know how this looks, right?
I think that it's, it's different. It's absolutely different. And I, being on like the side of the Manhunters and opposing the guardians, I think he wants to see the guardians brought down. So it's like, okay, this guy's got, this guy's going to break me out of here. He's going to go and kill the Guardians. And I think it's too, you have a concept.
He doesn't know what that thing does.
He doesn't know what he can do to his body. Again, Sinestro, he's not an idiot. He's very intelligent. And I think, look at it also in the sense where, okay, Sinestro is probably preoccupied, as that Jurassic Park saying goes, whether or not he should versus whether or not he could. And he was just devoted. He wanted to do this and make this thing. And so why would he fuck around with it. Like, why would he make a fake one? Like, he made it so he could actually do the job of killing the Guardians because he wants the same thing the Manhunter wants, right? Yeah.
I guess. But then, so you think now this lantern will not affect Jon whatsoever going forward?
I think it will. I think it will. But I also think, too, like, you have to look at Sinestro as an alien. He's not human. So he's very different. And he's very narrow, like, very narrow dogmatic, whatever you want to call it, minded, where he's like, I want to speak to Hal now. I want to speak to Hal now. Da-da-da-da. I want to speak to Hal now. Like, again, he's an alien. He doesn't have those same kind of tendencies that I feel like humans have, where he's very different.
And he looks at it as like, I want to create this lantern out of, you know, for fear because, you know, fear is that ultimate power over will. Um, and I mean, it looked like when how our John was charging it, it looked pretty fine, but I think in the long term, it's yeah, for now, but I think long-term it's going to have effects. It's not going to be like parallax levels where you got like the guy screaming at the girl in the street and, All that shit, right? When he's just like the brain growth and Parallax, the two guys. So I think it'll be different.
Yeah, I think maybe not Parallax. I don't really know, though, because remember, that's what everyone was thinking, right? Because there's a storyline from the comic books, how Jordan gets infected by Parallax. And everyone thought with his ring having like yellow like crests on the side or just like some colors there, which really led to nothing, right? That's just what his ring looked like. It wasn't anything. I do wonder if they're going to run that storyline or similar version with that with Johnny. Cause I, I think it's going to work.
In the way. I mean, because they were saying, I remember since it was like, I got a way to bring how back, why would they throw that in? Especially with the whole topic of fear and shit. I think that just loops right into it being with, with how Jordan, right. Could just be some natural bluffing, you know, he doesn't strike me as someone who bluffs though. Like he, he withheld the truth, but in the state of that position, he revealed his cards. So I, I don't, Again, he's like, I just don't see him having that kind of thing.
At the same time, though, the second Hal was like, oh, you talk too much, he flipped upon him right away, and he went to John, and he's like, oh, well, he didn't want you to charge a ring because he's going to be gone. You should charge it. So the second he knew that the hologram wasn't going to help him anymore, he did flip to John Stewart's side to, like, get his help, right? So that's what I agree with you, that he is at times single-minded, but he's probably very conniving and very... very sneaky very like very good at kind of getting behind a situation and being cloaked in the shadow so that's why i don't know i was very interested when john kept dunking him in that water and he's like trust me you don't want to do
this again well like not when he's seeing them but when he said like trust me you don't want to do this again i'm like what the fuck does that mean like why like like why would that matter to how like john if you whatever you're gonna see so that's why i wasn't sure like if he got dunked again, was he going to become, like, something, or turn into something, or just, like, invoke something that he couldn't even control, like, would, maybe, like, he would, like, the same way with, um, with John, when he lost on the boat last week, and Hal had to save it on the water, maybe Sinestro would just lose and fucking kill John Stewart right there, not even know he did it, right, so, just the way he threatened them, but yeah, the guy, I forgot his
name again, but the guy who plays, uh, Sinestro, Fan-fucking-tastic, man. Again, he's only been here for a little bit, but I loved everything with Hal. I loved everything with John. I definitely need him to be a big focus in Season 2. I would love it if he came to a big focus in the DCU, but we'll see. But for Season 2, I don't want just two episodes and him in a chair somewhere. I want him around doing shit and everything like that. And even then, maybe there's something where, because he made that lantern, he does have some power over it or he knows where to find it. I definitely think John's lantern is going to be a case of kind of the the one ring to rule them all situation, where the more he uses it, the worse it kind
of gets for him, right? Like, I just... There's no way you can just draw up, like, hey, this is maybe infused with fear, and then not do anything with it. If they never do anything with that, and it just was like, they were worried, but, ah, the lantern's fine, it works. That's, like, a point off for me in the future, because it should be something. And then, I'm not sure if it's a situation where he, like, proves himself.
He doesn't have to, but just.
In the way where.
Because I thought about this. If that lantern breaks... What else can he do?
I mean, can you break a lantern?
Let's just say he did. Let's just say he did. Let's say it exploded. Let's say Brady takes it, destroys it.
I think you're hooped, really.
Right?
But, I mean, you've got to hope that lantern's protected and somewhere safe.
Yeah, so that's why I don't know how, but I feel like there's got to be some way where he basically doesn't have to prove himself to the Guardians because he's not trying to, but in a way where his lantern could break her. Because I'm saying not even break. If this lantern's corrupted, eventually, and it starts to corrupt him, he's not going to want to use it anymore, right?
So that's where he'd have to get a new one. So either he has somebody that could forge one that's good, or I wonder if the guardians eventually be like, oh, you are a true Green Lantern.
You can do this.
Because that's another part of me, too. I thought of him being like, oh, I'm just a private contractor, and I'm going to have my own oath, and I'm not going to go up there and talk to them. Everyone that was like, oh, and I never believed this. They're like, oh. Season two. This is the setup. And then season two, we're going to get more cosmic. We're going to go to space a lot more.
No, no, no, no.
Jon Stewart at the end, like, denouncing the Guardians to you as their way of, like, well, he's not going to space because he's too cool for that. He's not going to go up there because he's not one of them. That's what I thought. That's exactly what I thought, where it's like, well, yeah, he's not going to go to space, really.
You know, Laura Linney might come back down here, which is funny how so many people, including us at the time, thought she might be the big bad and that didn't go anywhere this time.
But.
Yeah, I just feel like if he uses this lantern, it goes bad. He's going to have to get a good one eventually. So maybe I could see, like... Sorry, people, buckle up. I could see, like, season two, that's when he finally goes to Oa, like Jon Stewart. Like, we might be, like, another two to three years from that. Because, like, why would he go there in Superman? He really has no reason. He's being his own lantern, right? He's not working with the Guardians.
That's why I don't feel the Guardians are ever going to, like, bring him in or whatever. Because, again, like you said, he... He shut them down. He was calling them out. He was just shitting on them the whole time. The Guardians are never going to be like, and if they do, that just backtracks everything in this season because.
He shuts them down. Unless they have a come-to-Jesus moment, right? They're like, oh, we've been wrong, and Jon Stewart's the future.
Unless someone else gets them the lantern. I don't think the Guardians are going to say that. That would change their whole dynamic. Like, oh, this one human was right. We've got to go with him. I don't think the Guardians.
Yeah, but in the comics at one point, they only thought there should be one human Lantern, and then they changed their mind, right? So I'm just saying they could find a way where... Let's say they don't think he's the future, but they think, you know what? He's proved how good he can do for the Earth. And let's say this Lantern breaks or corrupts and he gives it up.
They go, he should still be a Lantern. Here you go. Even without reporting to him. I think there could be... something.
Happening and if they were to give him a lantern i could see do they still have how jordan's lantern kicking around.
Right that would be like a big passing of the torch unless like there's no chance this is well no i guess no because i guess yeah he just forged.
A lantern yeah because he left the lantern in the ring with the guardian.
Right yeah so yeah no i guess that could be a way of passing it down right so i i think it's gonna happen at some point i don't think it's gonna be like oh guy fucks up they go it's gonna be john but uh Um, yeah, let's see here. Uh, as this is my only complaint is that I thought John was going to pull to another car, move on Noah.
Oh my God. That would have been something just to kill off. DWS says, I have plenty of disappointments, but my real complaint is that music montage and where I feel like they just, where they just play out the stories with the waitress and John's family. No dialogue felt like they really need to see where John called out his parents for how they treat him before forgiving him. Nah, man, he's cool. He's just cool. His parents treat him like shit.
I mean, who he is.
I thought he was going to walk in there and cast a green couch or something. His mom was going to lose her shit. Like, you made it. You did it.
He just kills them all. Just pulls an Anakin Scott. All right. End of finale. It ends with the yellow ring taking over. And that's actually what I thought, Taylor. When he did the oath, what I thought was going to happen... When he turned around and looked, I thought his eyes was going to have, like, a bit of yellow in them.
I would have shit my eyes. No, no. I would have lost my mind.
Madison's like, get out of here. Go clean up. Go clean yourself up. No, and I wouldn't say, like, he would have been evil, but I would have thought, like, in Man of Tamor, you would have saw, like, oh, yeah, he's trying to help out. But, like, a symbiote situation where, like, maybe he goes too far a couple times, right? But I think that might be season two stuff. I think.
mark my words, I've been in season two, he uses Lantern enough, and then he's going to have some yellow eyes going on, you know?
Yes, please.
Yeah, so we'll see. But let's take our first ad break, and then we'll be right back. And we're back. Yeah, did you feel that they needed to have a dialogue scene with the parents? I don't know if it's... I don't know if I can say for myself need, but I do think it would enhance the finale for myself.
But what about you?
I'm just trying to figure out why they brought the dad back here. The dad was in the room all happy. So why did they put him in the home? The mom was just like, I'm not taking care of your fucking ass anymore. The kids are done with him. They just checked him into an old folks home and he has a home that he can stay in.
Well, I think people can come out and visit though.
He didn't look that old, though. When I go to the old folks home here, people are like 75 plus.
No, I think with him it was a sickness thing. I thought with him it was a sickness thing. Well, I think technically he is in his late 50s. They're trying to make him look older.
What sickness does he have?
I don't know, but I thought at one point they just said he wasn't doing well. So, to me, that wouldn't further- Why?
Because his fucking ring showed up in his bedroom at night and scared the shit out of him?
Every night, the orderlies are just coming in with a green light, just fucking with him. Like, you all right there, Stuart?
What are you afraid of?
Every day, they're just fucking with him. And he's in that room.
Whoa.
Oh, Christ.
Oh, God.
Then the order reaches behind the door.
Yeah!
Oh, God, yeah. No, that's great. I just think of John Sr. just out there.
Oh, absolutely.
Yeah, but I think he just came to visit, I guess, you know? But either way, would you like this dialogue scene with the parents?
Um... No, I'm totally okay with it. The only thing I would have liked to have had would have been a little bit of coverage on the mum and the Hal Jordan relationship. Like, oh, we still talk. We're still friends kind of a thing. But I mean, I guess it's just put to bed, right? With Hal being gone.
Yeah.
This is where we're at, so.
Yeah, like I said, I think it would have enhanced it. I didn't need it, but at the same time, I could have taken it. Also, I feel like if they're planning for a season two, you could do more of that. But yeah, they were a central theme and I would have liked a little bit more, but now he came home really happy. And yeah, I guess we didn't talk about, you mentioned that line where Sinestra did say, hey, if you give me that ring, I can bring you back and everything. And yeah, I wonder what they're going to do, because I do appreciate them sticking with the death, because I did feel like they made such a big deal that if they brought Hal back, it would have felt a little cheap. But at the same time, man, especially
in this episode, I was like, I really don't want Hal Jordan to go. And I love Jon Stewart as well, but I was just like, Like, this sucks. You know, like, I... And don't get me wrong, because it gives season one those stakes, but it's just. I wonder, in three to four years from now, when we're thinking back on this, and if we haven't got any more Kyle Chandler, and where the DCU is, if we go, man, they really did fuck up with the Hal thing. Like, maybe it was worth it for that season, but, like, to get more of them together would have been great.
And maybe you can just bring them back to life. Like they said, and they can retcon that. I don't mean retcon, but just, like, evolve it. But there was a moment where, at the end, when he was about to charge up the ring, that conversation that him and John had man, that was so good of like, Oh, what was the last thing I said to her? He's like, Oh, I love you. And he's like, well, I love you, junior.
And like, cause he kind of, I feel like he kind of knew John was lying to him, but he said like, love you back to John. Cause he appreciated that he would lie to him. Like in his final moments, like he would give him this nice moment of like, Oh, that's what I had this nice closure with her. And there's a moment when John's picking up the lantern and Kyle Chandler is just looking up the sky and he's just taking it all in. Cause he knows like, Oh, this is it for me. He's going to charge, charge up this ring.
I'm gone.
Which I was kind of disappointed by because I thought that's how we were going to cheat to keep Kyle Chandler around. I thought they were going to charge it like he'd have the ring and in other seasons or times they could bring up Hologram and that's like going to have like the buddy duo thing going on, right?
Like anytime it's like, how do you get Hal Jordan back? Oh, well, he's always with John and he can bring him. But now it sounds like he's gone. So it's like Hal's dead, dead. The Hologram's dead, dead. So I don't know. So like you said, I don't think them putting that line in there is by accident. But at the same time, I think they are in a kerfuffle because I feel like They'd have to wait almost years to bring back Hal because they might feel like people feel it's cheap. So I'm in a tough spot where I don't want them to do it because it would feel cheap. But at the same time, I really am going to miss not having Kyle Chandler's Hal around because I thought he did a fantastic job. He's going to be back.
He's going to be back for sure.
But what's the time frame of that? Is there a DCU by the time he gets back? I could see.
I mean, I don't think they'll wait that long. I mean, I could easily see a season two James Gunn because I was like, yeah, bring him back. Bring Chandler back in there.
I don't think they do season two. I don't know. I guess you never know. You never, I just, I guess it also depends when season two is, I guess I'll, I'll walk that back. Cause if it's like soon, then I don't know. But if it's season two, like if it's right away, I don't know. But at the same time, it's like, sure. Give us a season two. But then like, I, I do really want to relance your movie. I do want Jon Stewart popping off, you know, sick, but like, I don't know if it will be, uh, this type of, um, uh, vibe. So, I really don't know. I, I don't know. It's interesting. So, uh, but yeah, did you have any thoughts on, uh, hologram this episodes of his last moments and thoughts and these scenes going on here?
Um, I just, I, I enjoyed every second of him on screen. He was fantastic. Again, it was, of course it was brief. Um, cause we got him at the start, obviously it was Sinestro and then he kind of like fizzled out. And those moments too, where he's just, You have Jon Stewart asking for him, like, Hal, I need you.
I need you right now, Hal.
Stuff like that.
I liked all that. And then, of course, he was just listening the whole time and comes in at the end, and you already said everything about it. It was just a great kind of heart-to-heart moment.
Yeah.
Yeah, it was really good. And, again, I feel like when he had 5% charge when he double-tapped the ring and made the hologram appear, I feel like he really stretched it out because I thought Hal said it was an hour long of power. And he was here for, like, what, fucking a week, it felt like. Multiple days had passed while Jon Stewart was doing this whole shindig, right?
I know. It felt like that went on a bit too long. I wish they didn't even say that. Because the whole, like, if Hal Graham was just going to be gone, no matter what, if he charged his ring, what was the point then?
Yeah.
You know? Like, he was just always going to be gone. So, yeah. I don't know. Um, let's see what, uh, there's another thing with Sinestra. Oh, I guess before we get there, I guess we could wrap up that final scene as well. What did you think of, uh, cause this is controversial already. What do you think of John changing the oath? You got his own oath. And then what did you think of his back and forth with Guy in this episode?
I like the oath change.
I did.
I don't feel like it's them retconning or trying to change out their own spin. The guy's got a broken lantern, so he can have his own oath.
Totally.
Why not?
And I like the oath. I thought, man, he just thought of this on the spot. This fucking works. Him talking about fear and all that kind of stuff. Fear is my strength or whatever, but I liked it. And then again, with Guy Gardner popping in here, I thought it was great because he lands and he looks at his lantern. There's a big cock on it, and he just gets upset and distraught. And just when he's talking with Jon Stewart, yeah, he seems a lot more composed and not just kind of flamboyant and cuckoo and whatnot.
But I like that he stands there and he's just thinking over in his head everything that Jon is saying and whatnot. And I love that. John just kind of puts him in his place. Like, you know, you're the errand boy, go tell him, you know, this word for word. He's like, is that code? You know, I was just, I was eating it up. It was making me laugh.
Cause he just, he's really seemed like he was a bit of a, like a, a child, um, sort of speak, but not in like a immature, like, like ridiculous way. And I just, uh, he, he's new to this and it's very much like, I don't know what to do in this situation because now there's like another, like the guy, Jon Stewart's here with a ring. Like, what the fuck?
And I get, I cracked up when he was like, uh, when he saw that he had, uh, Hal Jordan's ring. He's like, he took that off his dead body. Like, and he's like, what the fuck? Kind of like, that's disgusting. Kind of. Yeah.
Yeah.
When he's, he's like, you, uh, I can't remember. He's like, oh, you tricked me to get the rings. Well, no, I tricked you to, yeah, I tricked you to solve Howl's murder and stuff. But yeah, that was good. I do really like their dynamic. I do hope they do actually fight in Man of Tomorrow. I hope we get that going on for a moment. I do want to see some contracts. I want to see them popping off. And I've said this before, too. I would not mind if they decide to do Lanshan's as a doubleheader again, but it's Jon and Guy having to team up together in season two, because I really like what they did with Guy here and As I said, I think they adapted it really well where he's still that arrogant prick, but
it's a little bit, it's not completely overbearing. They used his best qualities and made it fit the show instead of making the show fit him. He didn't come in all dark and just like serious. No, he's still the same guy. Where again, with Lex, I didn't feel that. And no, I really liked that scene. So I want to see that dynamic continue. I want to see them fight.
I want to see them have to work together. I want to see them have to respect each other at some point. I want to see it all. I can't wait. And yeah, I could use like a little A little fight here, but that's fine. Guy was kind of scared to do it, and that's just so interesting, right? When he's like, well, you know, when they find out about this, there's going to be an army coming after you. It's like, well, is there? You know, it's kind of like what you all talk about in the comments here, but it's like, oh.
all these aliens and that's like yeah but they're all just humans and aliens right so it's like are they or is Laura Linney gonna come down just give Jon Stewart like a stern warning like well we're watching.
You and if you screw up once we're really gonna come it's like yeah okay I guess so we'll see but DWS says I suspect there'll be some yellow lantern tomfoolery with his lantern Hopefully we're saving it for season two.
Yeah, I think so. Maybe a hint in Man of Tomorrow, but I could see that. Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre really brought it. I think we agree there. Milt Cooper. I'm not going to read all this, but I'll read these two. 2011, still the best Sinestro moment. I don't know. I think for me, the tough thing with Sinestro in that movie is I think Mark Strong is a great Sinestro character. And I think we get that great post-credits scene, but I think within the movie itself, you don't get a really hard enough reason for him to turn. He just kind of puts on the ring. He's like, I'm evil, right?
Because that movie doesn't have the greatest writing. So it's a fun moment. I can't say I prefer one or the other, but I prefer this Sinestro just because it's just better written. But I feel like there is a through line. I feel like they have a different representation of Sinestro, but there's still similarities. But I really like this Sinestro, and I really, hopefully, we get to see him with a yellow ring pop off. What do you prefer right now? Obviously just small sample size, but the Ryan Reynolds Sinestro or the Sinestro we got here? Or are they kind of tied for you?
They're close. I think this one just, there's aura to this one.
Oh yeah.
There's some shady shit going on.
It feels like if he gets a ring, he's going to fuck shit up. I'm sure he would have, but this guy, it's like, oh thank God this guy doesn't have a ring right now.
And again, I didn't feel like there was ever a time that I was not like anxious or nervous about this guy, even when he was being dumped in the water and he kept saying, no, no, no, no, stop, stop, stop. Like I didn't, I didn't at all feel like he's like copping out or take like being a pussy or anything.
I felt like, like this guy, again, he's being brutally tortured by being dunked into this water that makes you see terrifying shit that you're afraid of. And he's still, he comes out of there and he's, yeah, he's just, he has aura to him. So I like that. But then when you look at the Ryan Reynolds one, I don't know what it is about him. Like, he doesn't have that same aura, but I have to say, at the end, when he puts that ring on, he just, like, inhales that fear energy. His eyes are yellow. I love that scene so much.
And Mark Strong's good in it, too. He's good as, like, the stern, like, leader and everything, right? And then also, because this is something we've talked about before. People talk about it a lot. And I get it if you don't like it. Mel Cooper says, Lanterns was close to Smallville. Embarrassed to be a comic show, when Flash and Superman battled a few rogues in their show, Peacemaker had actual aliens.
Lanterns fought rednecks. And we can kind of talk about, or they talk about more as far as like the humans and stuff. I can't say, I guess I just can't go with the embarrassed. I get the conclusion, or I get the line drawn, right? Because a lot of people have said that it feels like the early 2000s comic book stuff where it's X-Men in black leather. They don't want the bright costumes because, well, we don't do that here. I do see the line, I don't think it's that, I think it's just two reasons, I think they wanted to adapt it this way, with, you look at Damon Lindelof, he did this with Watchmen, and his other stuff, like, it is that type of vibe, in my opinion, so it's specific, and I don't think it's, oh,
I read this in this fucking comic book, I think he read this, and they, and the company go, oh, well, I want to do this with that, you know, and I also do think it's just a budgetary thing, I do think if they had Hootspa Game of Thrones budget, maybe some of these aliens would be looking more like aliens, but I think they can't, right? So I get why that might bug people. For me, that doesn't take me out of the show to dislike it, but I can see why that's an issue. I can laugh it off with all the humans being aliens that are shapeshifters. It does feel very, you know, you have to hand wave it, right?
Because if you don't like it, then yeah, definitely don't watch that. But I'm not sure you have anything to say on that or next topic.
No.
So we did that let's talk about well let's take our last ad break and then we'll probably talk about the last thing here with Hal's fate and then we'll get into our overall scores and we'll be right back and we are back alright so we've talked about this since the beginning of episode 1 who killed Hal Jordan there's been lots of theories I had a theory of Sinestro I was wrong you had a theory that was Noah you were wrong you were right about him being a Manhunter but you were wrong about him being a killer And I guess we tied into this, they did reveal in this episode that Noah's the one that broke out Sinestro. Very interesting, you know, so he's the one that's to be responsible for whatever's going to happen with
Sinestro down the line. So, while they're talking to Sinestro, he, like, lays this all out, right? Like, he's a Manhunter XYZ, he killed Hal, he broke me out, he wants a ring so he can kill the Guardians, all this stuff. So John has this going in his mind. He's not going to get to confront Noah. He comes out of the portal, Noah's just waiting right there, beats the shit out of him, right? Which is like, right, he's a manager.
Because at first I'm like, fuck, John's getting his ass kicked. But I'm like, okay, no. And then, which I'll kind of parlay back into where we got, we have, and I thought this was a great choice to do the opening of this, like the first 10 minutes of this episode to be Hal's story after prison. I really liked that touch. I thought that was a great way to kind of dovetail it all together. We see he comes out of prison. Carrie's waiting for him with a couple beers and some flowers that she hides because I think she thinks it's kind of like almost too much too soon.
But they're starting to strike a relationship. They go to dinner. Everyone's staring at him. Again, that to me is one of the faults of the show. I still don't believe that Hal did enough bad things to warrant all this stuff. Like, people were going to die if he didn't intervene. So even then, he was like, oh, you thought he told me if I didn't leave, bad things were going to happen.
Bad things were going to happen no matter what. Those aliens said, we're going to go in there and start exploding if you don't give us the Manhunter. They were going to go fucking kill the town even if Hal was like, I'm not going to happen. So I'll still never understand that. That's our spoilers. This show is not going to tend for me because that's a big plot point that doesn't make sense still. or it's just not well written enough to.
They just need to blame someone. Right. And that's, that's, that was the green light.
But then I just wish they did. They may, they had Hal do something more mischievous, mischievous, but just like dark.
Yeah.
Ooh. But like, just do a bigger thing where he, cause he even says like, Oh, I, you know, I, Carrie finds them all in the rubble. Like, well, I did it, you know, for my selfish reasons or like, was it worth it? Right. Like, I just feel like then in that episode, make them do something a bit more shitty. I don't think he ever did anything too shitty there. Why wouldn't you blame the Manhunter who's been hiding?
You can be like, oh, they gave us this tech in a hospital. Yeah, but she hid in your community and got all these people killed. She got those kids killed in the football game.
Yeah, but most of them probably didn't know she was a Manhunter.
I think most of them.
Just thought, oh, she's just a great person that's helped out the town.
That's true, right. Yeah, and that's the thing. So you're right, they got to put their blame. I just wish they found it a little bit more, but that's okay, fine. Um, they've established they're fucking, they're falling in love. She invites him to the football game. He's really happy about that. And then kind of in between, like I said, that's when he finds that poor old gets a Noah and then Noah and John are talking and Noah talks about his whole life where he's just, he likes, you know, the school and he likes playing football, but every once in a while he'll just think about like world domination.
Like he did, I'm paraphrasing, but he's like, I'll just be randomly like do my life. And he's like, Oh, I could, become a football and then celebrity and president. I could take over. I could get the law, like the new codes. And that's where he's like, John's like looking at him like, Oh fuck man. But it's, it's in a way where I liked, and some people might not like this. I like, they kind of portrayed it as I get it where he's like someone fighting his programming.
And it's also like some people with mental health, right? Whether it is like, uh, thoughts of self harm or hurting other people. Lots of people in the world don't do these things because of, Oh, they're just bad people. There are those people. Some of them are just like, They need help, right? Or they need guidance and everything.
And that's where with Noah, some of the stuff he's not controlling. It's just because that's what was put into him, which we found out that Carrie got pregnant accidentally. It wasn't even fucking planned.
Oh, it wasn't accidental.
Oh, no.
No, I'm sorry. Yeah, you're right. Sorry. I meant like, I think we had talked about before, theorized that she couldn't have a child. Maybe Zoe helped her get pregnant. I meant that she wasn't a willing participant in the... The pregnancy, Carrie. Yeah, yeah.
It's like, oh, I'm going to give you a finger, but you're going to give me a baby.
Yeah, so it's a big jump. Very crazy trade-off. So this all happens, and they're talking back and forth, and Noah admits that he killed Hal, and he also wants to go play this game, and he doesn't know if he wants to just be a normal guy or he wants to go take over the world like a manhunter. So he tells John, you know what? Just to put me at peace, kill me. Don't tell me it's coming, right?
So this happens, and then John goes to confront Carrie. They have a conversation, but then John figures out, and then Carrie does admit that She is the one that killed Hal. Hal shows up after he figures out it was Manhunter. Because he doesn't know. He's like, oh, I haven't told Noah any of this. He already fucking knows.
He's got a lantern. He's doing bad shit. But then again, this is where, with Hal, they're talking about this. And he's like, is there any more? And she says, no. He's like, okay, good. Let's get out of here. We're going to a different country. He wasn't going to kill Noah. He just wanted to get them out of there. He even said, let's get to another planet where it's more secure.
He was fully on board, just like help them both. So I did like that they gave him that heroic moment to be like, they made it look like Hal was looking shady, like he was just going to fucking kill Noah. He wasn't, but Carrie was so scared. She turned around, shot him, didn't want to hear it out. And then, yeah, that's how Hal Jordan died. So how did you feel about the reveal of, obviously you, you know, you put out there, you're right. And we kind of thought you were right about Noah being the Manhunter. And then how do you feel about everything revealed about this?
And then it actually being Carrie being the one that took out Hal.
I mean, when you get that moment two episodes ago, one episode ago, where the Hal Graham was just, like, first meets Carrie.
Last week, yeah.
It was last week, yeah, okay, so then Carrie, like, touches his face or whatever, and then they kind of continue on, and immediately he's just like, oh, she fucking killed me.
He called it.
Yeah, he called it. His gut. That's right, the gut. From that moment on, that's where I kind of just kind of suspected, like, okay, yeah, I'm with you on that, like, it makes sense. And even when Noah said, like, I did it, I just didn't didn't pick up on that. But, um, yeah, I, I, I think her, her emotionally acting out, like I, I get it. Like she's, we don't know exactly the extent of her background because obviously she's being chased by some bad people and it led to some crazy circumstances where she was working for an intergalactic, uh, alien, like all the, the, some crazy, crazy life. Now she was a sheriff of town, yada, yada, yada. Uh, so she emotionally was compromised. It's her son, you know,
and she flipped out and freaked out because you got Guadalajara being popped up in front of you and you're dating a former Green Lantern, all this mumbo jumbo. So she acted out, she shot him, couldn't keep her cool. And yeah, he, he died. I think, I think it's fine. I think it fits with the story, but I also really do like the fact that Noah, it's, Yes, he unveils that he's got these dark thoughts and these dark tendencies.
You want to see my drawings? Yeah, I want to see my drawings. When I was a little kid, I was doing World Domination. I was doing drawings of armored robots and stuff like that.
Let's get him out of here. I don't know where he's going to take us now. He's going to get us canceled.
You never did that as a kid? I was doing it all the time.
I was drawing pictures of big dicks.
Like super bad? I was drawing this big mean bastard that fell down.
No, World Domination. I don't know. I don't think I was ever drawing world domination.
Oh, yeah. I learned the language. Because Bionicle has its own language that you could write. And so I learned the language.
You're going to drop like a hell hydrant Bionicle and that's.
It for the world. I can't speak it. But I used to know how to write the symbols down for the language. And so I wrote out like plans and stuff in Bionicle language so my parents couldn't read it. oh my god i used to i used to sketch out like like armor that i was gonna build and stuff like that i was gonna take over the world as little.
While they're divorced they saw these drawings and couldn't.
They did they're like what do we raise i broke my parents up um but anyways i so i i can i like this dynamic with noah saying like i get these thoughts and i i i can just john stewart just sitting there and he's again, like Noah insinuated, like, are you trying to wonder if I'm going to kill you?
He's like, yep. And then after that, a couple of scenes later, like you still just get like Noah saying like, yeah, I'm, I want to do good in this and that. And then, you know, but some days like I just get these thoughts and Jon Stewart's probing. I'm like, what, what do you think about? And he keeps like pushing further and further.
And he's like, yeah, no, as you said, I want to play football so I get noticed and become a politician through popularity and then become president and this and that. And Jon Stewart, I could just feel like he's not even breathing.
He's ready to get his neck snapped.
At that point. Yeah, just really not feeling it. And that was just killing me. But I love that it comes down to him realizing it's the choices that define you and that it's the choices, all these choices that he's made to protect his mom and everything. It's just... it circumvents that like it's totally outside of like the programming thing. Again, they, they lay it out hard here.
So I'm not like breaking into barriers here, but the programming, but I love that Jon Stewart's the one that gets to have a conversation with Noah about programming, because if anyone was programmed, fucking hell, it's Jon Stewart since he was a kid, right? He knows all about that. So I love that the two share that connection because outside of this episode and then the last episode where they were having dinner, you don't really get a lot of them connecting with each other aside from Jon Stewart, teach him how to throw a football. That's basically it. But I, I saved his life. That's right.
Yeah.
But I, I, I loved all of it. I thought it, it, for me, it fit. It really, really did fit well. Um, and I, I love, I think if, if John, sorry, not John, if Noah was to actually go into politics, become president, you know, but choose to act on the good side of things, man, he could just make, you know, be a game changer really. But, uh, but I like his idea of just trying to have a normal life and, But at the end of the day, John's like, you know what, if you just try to act out, I'm going to just have my ring and, you know, I'll just, I'll be watching him from afar.
Yeah, he knows where he was. How did you, or he knows where he will be. How did you feel about Carrie being the killer?
Didn't I answer that?
No, we talked about Noah and like the, you went off on Noah's drawings and the Bionicles. The Bionicles took you differently, yeah.
Um... Yeah, because she was emotionally compromised, so I get it. I did talk about this. Yeah, because when Hal Graham said it, I believed it. Yeah.
Okay, I guess why I got to ask you that again is because the last time we had talked, you thought it was Noah because you hadn't been on the cast. So I guess you weren't. Last week you thought it was her. I didn't think it was her. I still thought it was Noah.
Even after Hal Graham said it was?
Yeah, because the problem with Hal Graham, he kept– The reason I thought he was maybe wrong is because he kept jumping all over the place. When he first got out of there, he said that it was John that killed him. And then when he met Carrie, he said it was Carrie that killed him. And then he said they killed himself. So that's why I thought with Hal, with Hal Graham, because he doesn't have all the information, he was just kind of too... Like, there's too much going on for him to, like... He was solving an algebra question, and he couldn't figure out what the number amounts were. He thought he could, and that's where... I thought last week was so many red herrings. I thought, oh, that's just trying to get us off the Noah bandwagon.
I do, before you continue, I do actually prefer being Carrie. I know Noah's a manhunter. Carl Ritchie, he was in the chat. I'm not sure if he's listening now. Carl, Taylor hopes to see you soon. Me, never again. Glad you're gone. Don't need to see you ever again. But he was saying that he thought it was Noah that made the most sense and they've done all this stuff.
And I agree to a point, but at the same time, he's been in the series a little bit. Tom to throw a ball. Zoe said, you're going to be really important one day. He had those scenes last week and then this episode. Not much. It's so little where it's like, yeah, the seeds are planted, but they're like, you need to water this a lot more. Where with Carrie, I didn't believe it. I thought she was going to be a character going forward, but I... I can, like that I buy way more because her and Hal's relationship was, uh, tenacious at times. She had been in the tricky situation.
So I liked her being the killer, but you're saying last week when Hal did that, you were bought in that, uh, she was a killer.
Everything he said, like, yeah, the way she touched my face and looked at me, he's like, yeah, yep. You're right. You're right. Cause when he said like, I killed myself, like I, even that I didn't believe it. I just thought like, yeah, she, she is. Cause she was just so suspicious about all of it. Um, But yeah, then they show, yeah, she's emotionally compromised. She does it, acts out of grief or whatever, fear. And yeah, he's just, he's gone. He is toast. And again, that's another thing actually I liked about this episode because he doesn't die, but he gets his house, Molotov, which fucking beautiful home.
Holy shit. And one of the things that I noticed previously in his shack that he moves into, he's got a sign that says live, laugh, love in there, which fucking cracked me up. Just how he has that in his house. But again, him getting Earl out of there, I love that he got, he saved Earl. And I like that Jon Stewart has Earl.
Earl's looking rough as hell, though. For the CGI, Earl was looking.
He was questionable.
The budget was running out. They didn't have any more on Earl. I guess technically he died there, right? And Noah saved him already? Like, he would have been dead? He would have... Yeah, Noah brought him back with the skin grafting sheen.
Brought back, yeah, from the fire.
Yeah, because Hal did die there. So Hal died twice, like within a week or so or whatever, you know? So he was destined to die, you know? So let's see. I want to touch on this before I forget about it. The whole storyline with John and the money and Maggie, dumb. That was super dumb.
Didn't need to be in there.
People's theory, they were going with Taylor, and I didn't have this theory, but people were telling me, and I had seen it, that they thought Noah was... like was a Manhunter. So they're right. But he was a Manhunter and he transformed into Maggie to keep like an eye on Jon Stewart. And I was like, why would he do that? He's seen Jon Stewart all the time. Why is he going to keep an eye on him?
Like, yeah.
So I didn't agree with that. And then like at the end of the day, it was just like, it was very pointless. Cause it's just, you don't need this at all. No one in this town really gives a shit about how they could just say that. Oh, somebody killed him.
We don't know.
I thought was going to happen is when she opened that bag, it was going to be a constructs of money. So it would be money, but it's like, fuck you, they're going to disappear. But no, he gave her fucking $ 350, 000 and said, I'm still sorry. I don't know. And again, I know that's the little girl that he saw at the end of the wreckage of Rushville, right? And he gave her the watch.
I couldn't even fucking remember that. I know she says it, but.
I don't remember this. It did happen. It was in the show. But then I wish that he did something directly... because I think what happens is her dad dies there, and it's just her and her mom trying to save him, and he's just like, I'm sorry, because her dad's already gone. I wish he did something directly to do that. He accidentally used the ring or did something to kill her dad, not going after him, but just defending the town and something happens, and I'm feeling bad about that. The good thing about this show is, other than for me that Hal business, there's not massive cons. There's just little ones that pile up like that, where it's like, this Maggie thing was pointless. I would have taken more scenes with
hal or anybody right so um yeah that was that was strange so.
Yeah yeah i would agree in retrospect.
Um let's see i got how cgi how about the life okay was there anything i think i got all my notes do you got anything.
Else no i think i touched upon the things i wanted to touch upon before for the past episodes but yeah i think i'm.
Good Okay, well, I will go first cause my score might be lower than yours. So we'll, we'll see. But, uh, um, so yeah, with lanterns, like I said, I want to watch this again. I will at some point, I'm not in like a rush where, Oh, it ended. I gotta go fucking interview a vampire. Watch it again. And the right after, no, I don't need that mate. Like maybe the hope is after man of tomorrow, either me right before, or maybe after I'm just hyped on John Stewart. Like, yeah, I want to get this origin. Let's see how it goes. But, um, So I think that it was, it had some very big high highs. I don't think it ever had low lows, which is good. I just think there was like little bumps on the road. And even that how thing, like
Taylor said, the town just decided they needed someone to blame on, right? So I can buy that. That's the world we live in. I just think the characters that actually know him, like John and Carrie, with John being like, look at that ring you made him become, like what, trying to save people? I don't know. I think that needed to be more fleshed out. But I think that is like the biggest issue with this show. There's the stuff that, of course, that people don't like. There's None of the powers, the humans, the aliens. I get that.
Those don't bug me as much because the show overall for me was very good. I think if the show was not good and we had that, that would pile onto that. So, yeah, it was good. I think this finale was a little bit of a... just a letdown for me. I don't know if I can go full disappointment, as I said in my opening, but I just... it did feel like something was lacking here or off. And that's why I do want to watch this again in the future, see how I feel and hear other people's takes.
But so I don't think it was, I think they didn't get to home. They didn't get a home run. They got to third base, which is pretty good. You know, baseball game. That's great. Someone can come hit the next run and then you're home. That's great. And I'd say they still got home. That's why it says they got home.
I could say they still stuck the landing, but it wasn't the cleanest landing whatsoever. It wasn't like, Oh, this is the best pile in the world. It's like, okay, This is a very good pilot. But, yeah, I think where I'm going to go, I'm going to go, I think, an 8 out of, I think an 8.5, I think an 8.5, 8.75, somewhere in there. Maybe I could get to 9 on a rewatch and, you know, again, thinking about some more hearing people's thoughts and opinions because I'm always down for that. I'm down for watching stuff like, again, talking about Interview the Vampire, when I watched that for the first time, season 2 was not a 10 out of 10 for me. When I re-watched it with everything, I was like, okay, I would give this a 10 now.
That happens all the time with shows when you kind of, you know, get different perspectives, sit with it. So that's where there's some things I need to. I don't think it could ever go higher than a 9, though, because of some little things like the Maggie things and things along the way. Even those exploding aliens, I felt that was kind of like a lackluster thing. And even the house stuff, that's the big thing where the town, like, I never really jive with that. So I'll go in 8.5.
And I think, um, what the fuck is going on? I think it's like some fucking... Guy Gardner? No, I think it's like some fucking raccoon on my fence or something.
Raccoon?
Big squirrel? I'm going to make a noise so it doesn't come to the fucking deck and attack me or something.
You go.
I'll be right back.
Yeah, those raccoons. They'll get you. You got to be careful. I was out. A little side tension.
I was.
You know, late at night, walking my kid. Kid can't sleep. It's like 2.30, 3 in the morning. Pitch black. I take him outside. I like to walk around a little bit. And where I'm walking around, I see across from me in this yard, there's three baby raccoons. Cutest little fuckers around. And they're caught up and down the tree. Absolutely adorable.
And then I see the big mama. She is just standing back, just watching me. We lock eyes. And so I just... I, I acknowledge that. And I'm looking at her, she's looking at me. It's like, you fuck with me. I'll fuck with you. I got my baby. You got yours. And, uh, I don't say this, but it was like, um, it's like an eye to eye conversation. You know, when you talk with your eyes, that's what I was doing. Um, and you know, she stayed on her side of the fence.
I stayed on my side of the fence, the kids doing their own thing. And we didn't fuck around and find out back to this. Um, Yeah, this show, I'm a lot more higher than Travis is with this. I think this is great. There's not a second of this season that I was just not engaged and so involved in the story. Yes, I know that, okay, it was supposed to be that detective, high stakes, figuring things out kind of shindig. And I'm kind of glad it wasn't something like a Sherlock Holmes where it has, oh, at the end, Gadzooks, we figured it out. This is the whole crescendo of everything going down like a Knives Out ending.
I'm okay.
I didn't have that. I'm actually totally fine with it. Just being multiple little crimes, crimes, multiple little, what would you call it? Narratives that had to be figured out and dissected. And it just kind of wasn't so much that, that I was engaged with. I was engaged with the character's, just their growth and development. And as the secrets were being unrevealed, it just, there's much more in that, that I was invested in with the characters more so than this just being some detective story. So that's what I'm hyped up on. And I think that they did a fantastic job, not overdoing the comedy and just really making you connect to these characters and feel for these characters.
And so I'm, I'm totally on the hype train with this. I want to rewatch it. I want to see how it affects you on the second rewatch and everything with getting Sinestro in there, this yellowish lantern, the fear stuff. This is just some juicy amount of content that I hope season two really brings in. Travis is grumbling and grunting over there. Not sure what's going on. Oh, he covered the camera. Looked like he caught it. What is this guy doing in the dark? What is this? This is a raccoon climbing on top of the screen. All I see is Pencil's mask. Pencil just sneaked into Travis's yard. Whoa, my camera went down. Whoever sits down in this chair better have pants on or else we're going to get a very wild look here, wild perspective. This show's a
10 out of 10 for me, though. That's all I got. What is that? Is that breathing? Breathing? it's like fucking Michael Myers over there, it's deathly quiet, deathly quiet, hopefully Travis is okay, yeah, hopefully he's not taken out, oh, he's gone, that's not what you want to see, you know, his wife, his kids are over there, and now some fucking crazy pen solo is running around in the house, God knows doing, doing what over there, fucking slashing tires, and uh, throwing clean laundry out of the dresser on the floor and, uh, spilling, spilling fucking cereal, you know, all over the place and pouring milk and shit around the house. Oh my God. It's the fucking, the nightmares, eh? Jeez.
Leaving little Lego bricks around so that everyone steps on them. What other shenanigans can you fucking do in a house? Um, replace shampoo with, um, you can replace shampoo with a lot of things. Um, sorry, this is just unprecedented. I'm not, uh, I'm not sure what happened to Travis. I'm getting a message though. Oh, my thing dinged. What is this? I can end the show. I'm being told, well, it must've actually been a real raccoon teamed up with Pan Solo that has assaulted Travis because he is gone now. Um, and I have no, I'm gonna have to drive over to his house, I think. and actually go and see if he's okay. I'll have to text Emily, call Emily, you know, see if they need emergency evacuation from the
premise because Pancello's clearly hijacked the Snell household. So I'm going to end the show, and I'm going to check on Travis after. I'll probably get a bite to eat first and, you know, have a little bit of a drink and check on him probably like an hour or so, see if he's all right. But I'll get around to it. Anyways, ladies and gentlemen, thank you for joining us for this journey.
We will be seeing you again very soon. We'll see you in the search bar. Have a good one.
