See you with the, it's not a Walker caster, it's a Stalker caster. It's a Stalker caster jersey.
Because I know we had that type of talent on the team. I know we got gifted one of the five, probably one of the five greatest centers in Laker history.
Okay, well we're going to talk about it. I had to just, you know.
Quickly.
So Luka Doncic era commenced Wednesday night for the Lakers as the Purple and Gold open the season at home against Steph Curry and the Warriors. Luka embraced being the face of the franchise with the departure of LeBron, taking on more of a leadership role. So Wednesday morning, Luka took out a full-page ad in the LA Times, writing a letter to LA, and specifically Lakers fans, which reads in part, he said, Dear LA, tonight we start our run for a championship. Every player dreams of holding that trophy.
To do it for all of you amazing fans would mean everything to us. Each of us understands what it means to put on this purple and gold jersey and follow the players who wore it before us. We have a special team. We know what to expect. And we're going to do everything in our power to deliver it. From the moment I arrived in L.A., you welcomed me with open arms. That is something I will never forget.
So here is my promise to you. We're going to give you everything we have every single night. No excuses. No nights off. But we cannot do this alone. You are the best fans in the world, and we are going to need you every game.
Bring it with us. Let's go.
So Luka also covered parking for fans at a lot near the arena while also providing free metro bike share rides throughout Los Angeles.
That's Luka.
That's a good thing.
That's smart right there. That's a good white man right there.
Pulling for my, pulling for my, you know what I mean?
Niggas park for free. Parking is expensive. You paid for parking?
You never gave a nigga a ride. You paid for parking?
Oh, the shit I did.
When?
Papa John's shirts for LeBron.
You don't remember?
All playoffs. You remember Halloween? All Gilbert Face Masters.
20,000 people. Oh, I thought the team did that for you.
No.
You paid for it yourself?
Yeah.
Them cheap boys.
I did all that good shit out there, yeah. Oh, I thought you did. But those are.
The things that I was even telling Bradley Bill.
I even told Tatum this.
When you're talking about being remembered, being a fan favorite, When you look at national games, you have to think marketing.
This is marketing.
Yeah.
Now, you take it a step further. I said, when you play that big rival game, when you're on TV and you're at home, make that bitch about you.
Right?
You got Jordan. When you play Philly.
Christmas.
On Christmas, where at? In Los Angeles. I'm talking about like Boston Tatum, right?
Yeah.
I will have all Tatum's house jerseys.
20,000 people in there.
Tatum house jerseys. So the whole world sees it. My ex-teammate sees it. And it makes a statement. The world can remember. And then if you end up having 45 or 50, stamp it.
It's a moment in time. Stamp it. Those are the things that superstars, you gotta have.
In Boston or in Philly?
In Boston, when he's in Boston.
Yeah, they gonna buy his jersey. They gonna have Tatum's jersey on anyway, too. I'm not talking about jerseys. I'm saying you have custom shit made.
No, he's saying the way that Luka took over, like, basically, Luka made that first night a moment.
A moment, yeah. He took out the ad, paid for the parking.
And then they went out there and smacked the fire out of Golden State.
Well, let's get to that part of it because this was the first part. Let's get to the second part. Snowtime Lakers trio of Luka Austin Reeves and Walker Kessler gave fans reason for optimism in their debut together while showing Warriors, both young and old, the future for the Purple and Gold is now. Let's take a look at the highlights. I know this will keep Gil entertained. Shout out to Bronny James as well. Still one LeBron left.
But Luka, Austin Reeves, and Walker Kessler balled out in their first game together. All started with the connection between Luka and the Lakers. Newest big man on the opening possession. Slovenia Jesus found Kessler for an alley-oop dunk, setting the tone for an unbelievable debut. Kessler was perfect from the field, finishing with 26 points on 12-for-12 shooting with nine rebounds and 10 dunks. Became the first Laker since Wilt to make at least 12 shots without a miss and first since Shaq with 10 dunks in the game. Early on, Steph was still keeping Golden State alive. Chef Curry scored 16 of the Warriors' first 21 points, helping the Dubs stay within one after the first frame of the game.
But there you see them, Flavini and Jesus. They got a lob threat, rim runner, that LeBron and AD were begging for for numerous seasons. Finally got it done for Luka, making that trade with the Jazz to get Kessler. Luka took over, catching fire in the second quarter. While trash-talking with Warriors rookie Yaxel Lindenburg. We'll have more on that trash-talking situation shortly.
Yaxel has some things to say to Luka. They were going back and forth. Yaxel Foley.
Where is it?
Shout out Yaxel Foley.
Beverly Hills thought. Wow. Oh, the bank is open.
Bye-bye.
Luka hit the bank in Yaxel's grill to end the second quarter. Had some words for him in English and Slovenia. Called him the P-word.
Uh-oh.
What P word is that? And I don't mean positive.
Okay.
The power of the P-U. Lakers closed the half on a 17-4 run. Like I said, Luka hit that half-court buzzer beater on Yax's grill. They had a 14-point lead at the break.
Snowtime looking good.
Look, you see that pass?
So Luka finished with 28 points, eight rebounds, seven assists.
A lot of good stuff normally happens to the neighborhood after it gets gentrified.
Yeah. Luka hit five threes in the game.
Third quarter, Lakers completely blew it open. Lemon Daddy, Austin Reeves, also making his presence felt Lakers outscored the Warriors 36-16 in the third frame, led by as much as 35 points. Reeves finished with 23 and six assists as the Lakers defense suffocated the Dubs. Steph had 23 points in the game, but just three of those came in the second half.
He sat in the fourth quarter with the belt getting put to the Warriors' proverbial cheeks. Lakers shot 58% from the field, held the Warriors to 22% from three. Gil, our resident Lakers fan, with the makeshift Walker Kessler jersey, I'm happy for you and your squad. I'm happy for y'all, too. Happy for Bronny. Happy for Bronny. You don't got to do that, man. What are your biggest takeaways from the snow-time Lakers' blowout win over the Warriors?
I like where this is going. I didn't really know much about Kessler. Oh, we know you didn't watch Utah.
Yeah, hell no. Nobody did. Yeah, I'm just being honest here.
But just to see his skill set and to see how he's being used. And it's kind of like, man, him. probably get another type of guard we still got to see. But I like the pieces that we have so far. So I was excited about just what I was seeing, just from the big man.
I know what Luka has. I know what Reeves has, right?
But seeing the new guys and see who's going to be here long-term and who's about to just get the fuck on, right?
So right now, I even like Grimes. I like him too, so. But we already knew we was whooping the fuck out of them. I'm sorry.
That was an easy win. You look mighty happy with your new team. It was an easy win. Luka Doncic here.
Yeah, I don't like this Laker team.
Why not? Luka would have had 45 last night.
Yaku was locking it up.
Who's Yaku? Who's Yaku?
You mean Yaxel?
You're saying the wrong name.
Yaxel phone. It looks good.
You're playing against fucking PE teachers and substitutes and all that. You're playing against the Warriors. We don't know nobody on the Warriors besides Steph and Draymond.
Exactly. And now Yaxel.
That's who stopped us.
No, no, no.
Yaxel actually played good defense.
He did.
Hell no. He was locking up. Get the fuck out. Luke only had one for six on him.
Yes.
Everything we've seen.
Wasn't on your side.
Lock that Slovenian Jesus up.
All right.
The push-off for the half-court shot, yes.
I'll break it down from an offensive player's mind to show you how horrible it was.
Man, they was calling some bull. Okay, break it down then.
They was calling some bull.
Break it down to Chinatown.
Did y'all say, I'm going to wait? I'm going to wait.
I'm going to let y'all talk about what y'all thought about the Lakers.
All right.
And we'll get to it because I know it's probably up there.
All right, cool. Like I said, they got a bunch of PE teachers over there.
Ha!
How come when you say we're going to lose and we win, now.
These niggas are PE? I didn't ever say we was going to lose.
Now they're PE players.
They are.
You don't know nobody on the board. You don't come out here then. Let me just write my own stats in. Let me just write my own stats. We should have to.
Play the game.
What I'm saying is, why do we have to play the game if you're going to call the P?
They are.
You know what? We play and go to state. They found these names on the corner. Like, hey, man, you going to play the game? We play and go to state. I should be like, you know what? I had 38, 10, and 10 tonight.
I should be able to do that. Until Yaxel did it.
Until Yaxel came in.
But Steph?
No, man, no.
Yes. Yes, you got to.
You're not going to be able to go back.
I don't know. You ain't going to be able to do that. As long as Steph likes me, Draymond, I'm good. Did Draymond like you? Yeah, that's cool.
We talk like that.
Who do you want to remind, though? Okay.
Who do you want to remind, though? But, yeah, we don't know who these guys out there. It's sad what they're doing to Steph. He tried 16 in the first quarter out of 21 points.
At his age, you know that wasn't sustainable for the whole game.
Elder abuse.
Once you take him out the game, once you serve Steph out, it's like, what else you got?
What you coming in the game with?
We're going to talk about Golden State after this, right?
I mean, we can hit them.
We normally celebrate the winners.
No, no. I wanted to start with my point on the Lakers. I know Gil's playing. around with the jersey and everything else.
The Kessler with the fake Kessler jersey on. Yeah, until I get my real one.
Yeah, okay.
I'll say this.
Kessler makes a huge difference for how Luka plays.
Mm-hmm.
These small teams get destroyed.
By bigs that aren't afraid to play big. Walker Kessler's like, oh, no, no, no, no, no. There's no pop.
I'm rolling every time. That lob threat makes Luka's job easy. He comes off the pick and roll and now he says, OK, everybody in the league runs a drop.
He comes off.
He was like, OK, do I want the floater or the lob? After he starts hitting those, now he's like, now I know that weak side defender got to come all the way over. Then he starts just looking and baiting you in and he's looking over here and over there to the corner. That corner man has no idea where to go. The corner guy has to come all the way over because Walker Kessler's dunking everything. Walker Kessler is not going to have nine dunks or whatever every single night, but he don't have to. The fact that he plays big, he's the perfect style big to play with Luka. He don't want the ball. He don't need the ball. But Luka knows exactly where he's going to be.
And he's always going to have his eyes on the prize at the rim. He's going to impact the paint. And because he impacts the paint, that's going to make three point shooters even more wide open. Can you imagine having an extra half a second on a shot? Like, just because that guy had to come off you. Now, instead of rushing to get it up, you're like, oh, you're waiting to paint. Boy, Nick, boy, you can rub them ashy hands together.
And line it up. Way too slow, though.
That....
Back him down from that. Have you seen Luka play before?
Compared to the teams, the style of teams playing yesterday, like that fast pace, the Lakers are going to get killed.
You do know Luka was, I want to say, first team All-NBA for like five straight years with that slow pace.
Luka plays slow.
It's okay for him to play slow, but his whole team is slow.
You know what?
Walker Kessler's slow. He might be big and he's playing slow. Stop us.
That's all I got, shit.
Hey, man, you keep talking about speed. Luka has played the same speed his whole career. Can't nobody speed him up?
But his team never been slow like that.
He had Kyrie fucking Pete Washington.
Who's Pete Washington?
Yeah, Pete Washington. Hey, man, you don't make your names up over here.
Jones. He just left a J. He forgot a J. I like Pete Davis. Jones.
He had a lot of athletic, fast people. Everybody playing that Luka pace on the court looks crazy.
Walker, you're not athletic. I'm swagging 26 points, nine boards, 12 for 12. They still got Matisse.
Ten dunks. They got Matisse. They got Matisse Stiebel.
He's athletic.
Slow as hell scored 127. We sat on the hat. Oh, man.
I'm just saying Matisse Stiebel is athletic. You got Zaire Williams. He's athletic.
You still got Grimes. You got Ronnie. I mean, you got athletic people.
They got who? I like that part.
I like that they started Zaire Williams.
James Jr. Athletics. You're talking about athletic players. Come on, man. But, like, I'm just saying.
Very athletic. He's athletic.
He's probably not going to be in a rotation, though. All I'm saying is that they have enough athleticism to get it done, but athletes don't bother Luka. These guys have been more athletic than Luka since he stepped in the league. All Luka has done is drag everybody.
I'm talking about the team around him. Like, comparing to OKC, Spurs, Minnesota. That team don't look like they got a chance.
That's all I'm saying. Okay.
That Lakers squad, I was ready to fully hate on the Lakers for how they did LeBron, but watching that team last night, you can see why Lakers fans were so thirsty for Walker Kessler. Been trying to get him for years. Jazz tried a strong arm.
Warriors.
But I'm just telling you, they gave up a lot of assets to bring Walker in. It was a little shaky, obviously, with last season's injuries and the Jazz tanking, but.
Warriors. 26, though.
It's 26.
You see, Minnesota did it to Miami.
He's yamming everything, though.
Warriors.
But Luka's got that... He got the guy who can actually catch the lob and dunk it.
And I'm an L.A.
Laker. I'm a Laker fan. To your point, the Warriors do look bad.
What'd you say again? And I'm a Laker fan. I just don't like... It's just....
Man, listen, man. Listen, listen, listen.
The Warriors is bad, bro.
If you don't want to eat caviar, if you don't want to eat caviar.
Man, that's on you.
You want to eat the Popeye's chicken shit y'all been eating for the last couple years?
USC could beat the Warriors.
Nah, they can't do that. I will say this, though. While we're discussing the Warriors.
You said they can't do that? No, no, no.
I said, no, no, USC ain't beating the Warriors. Because Steph Curry still plays for them. But I'm just saying this. While we're discussing the Warriors, Steph Curry and his camp. need to have a conversation.
Man. Do we want to be loyal to the soil?
It looks sad out there.
And stay here for the next couple of seasons and waste years where I could be winning championships? Or do we want to go to management and say, hey, man, I know we had a great run, but these next two to three years, I'm going to try to get, you know, an extra one, two to three championships. Because I'm going to tell you right now, Steph Curry can help you win a championship. He just can't help this team win a championship. And he has to make a decision.
You can be a lifetime warrior. You can be loyal to the soil and stay here and waste these next three years, average 25 to 20 to 30. Or you can go to the front office and be like, listen, I gave y'all all I could. I need to go play for whatever team. I need to go somewhere else. This ain't working for me. This Golden State team ain't going.
Walker Kessler looking at all them little guys. They ain't got no rim protection. They're second best playmakers, a rookie. Like, man, these Warriors are done.
It is a wrap.
They are crispy fried.
Done. Done.
Steph is going to retire before he goes to another team.
He might.
Because that's going to be the end of his legacy. Because if he goes and gets traded anywhere to go team up to win a championship, that championship don't count. He will be considered. You guys are motherfucking crazy.
They love him because he's staying home. That's why they love him because he did it. He got drafted by the team.
They worked.
They won.
He stayed.
They broke up the team a little bit.
He won again, which puts him in the same lovable category as Tim Duncan, Magic Johnson, Kobe Bryant, Dirk Nowinski. If he go leaves, him chasing Magic Johnson will stop and they're going to put a tank around his legacy. I don't give a fuck about his team being sorry about Kobe team was sorry when he retired. Dirt team was sorry when he retired. They're just going to say, this is what.
The greats have done before you.
Jerry, this is what the greats, what makes them the greats of this is because of that.
So if, and this is what he has.
Over LeBron and KD is because he got drafted. He wasn't a big name. He wasn't this legacy player coming out of high school and college.
I mean college. But he did it there and he stayed.
Here's going to be the difference. They're not going to kill Steph if Steph leaves because Steph is 38 and he's going to turn 39 during the.
Course of this year. We understand.
And this mythical rule book where you can't leave and team up.
Uh-huh.
They do put an age stipulation in there. If you're in your prime, they say, ooh, you bad, LeBron and KD. But if you 40 years old, don't nobody be like, man, Tom Brady left the Buccaneers, so that championship, he left the Patriots, so that championship he got with the Bucs don't count. Don't nobody say that. We don't talk about football like that. But I do.
Young basketball.
They didn't say it about Jordan with the Wizards.
We wasn't close to winning that.
I know, but still.
The people who's out here carving people's laity up is the Jordans.
Hey, no, no, no, no. You want me to stay basketball? Now, this player, Hall of Famer. No, no, no. Is he a top tier in his category? Yes. Let me land the plane, baby.
I'm trying to land the plane. You over here trying to take control.
Of the plane, baby.
Hey, listen. This is how the locker room is.
This is how it is. The motherfucking road is black ice.
I'm just letting you know. I'm just letting you know this. It's not black ice.
I can see the landing gear. Hey, what I'm saying is this. Nobody disrespects Clyde Drexler's championship with the Houston Rockets.
But nobody really talks about Clyde Drexler like that. Josiah, are you helping me or not? I told you it was black ice under there.
Because listen, Clyde Drexler won a championship somewhere else.
You name the top five shooting guards, There's three of them in there with no championship.
But we don't talk bad that he left.
Because he's not touching Jordan.
We don't talk bad that D-Wade left Miami.
Because he's not touching Jordan.
This only happens to the people who's touching the ones they called number one. Listen, so when step is touching step is saying I am at 39.
Years old 39 years old Steph can go play for another team. This Warriors team is cooked and they don't judge They don't judge step the same and when step don't make the playoffs it ain't even news They lose in the play-in, nobody cares. Steph has the perfect nice guy image so that when he does lose, they be like, oh, it's Steph, man.
He's so relatable. That's not fair.
They feel sorry, but they want Steph to leave.
Because he's home. He's doing it here.
But he's not leaving in his prime. They criticized LeBron because he left in his prime. They criticized KD. He joined his rival and left in his prime. If Steph leaves Golden State at 39 years old, after looking at a roster right now that looks like it won't even be playing worthy, I don't think people will say, you know what, his championship don't count.
That's how we think. That's not how the rule makers... We would have.
Thought when LeBron turned 39, his legacy still wouldn't be up for chance.
But if you say, who's the best 39-year-old?
LeBron.
The best 40-year-old?
LeBron. The best 41-year-old?
LeBron. But they still say, well, hold on. Jordan didn't lose in the first round.
Nigga, he wasn't even playing at this age. But they will pretend that the guy that we're looking at this age they're going to compare it to the great that they have when it was prime players you would think that nobody in the media would be talking shit about what LeBron does at this moment they would do exactly what what they did with Kobe at the end Duncan at the end Jordan at the end Dirk at the end KG at the end you would think they would just sit back and enjoy nope I'm for some reason still saying, ah, see, this is why he can't be the GOAT.
Because, you know, at 40 years old, he made the playoffs.
But one is chasing Jordan, the other one is Magic.
He's chasing, but he's chasing number one in his category.
Hey, man, I don't know, man.
That's the thing.
I'm trying to decide what the chat is talking about.
Hey, chat, y'all feeling me, man?
They're going to hate on Steph?
I don't think they are.
I don't think they're going to hate on Steph.
I think if Steph leaves, they'll be fine. He's giving them four championships, and he's going to be 39 years old. If he leaves at the end of this season, he's going to be 40 years old, bro, next year.
But where can Steph go, Brendan?
No, no.
He can go a lot of places.
I know he can, but where can he go and not get slammed?
Let me ask this question.
Since you know all the fan bases out here, right now, Steph is sitting there, yeah, I need one more. You're saying if Step Left, right, teamed up and go win and won a championship.
Yeah, he won a championship.
You think the Magic fan base is accepting that ring to tie with Magic?
When they're going to be like, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Don't LeBron us.
They're going to.
Do the same thing. If Steph leave and go to Boston... And win a championship.
And win a championship, I don't think they'll penalize him because he's so much older. I agree with you on LeBron, but we also understand LeBron gets unfair coverage.
Yeah.
No one... Listen, people.
No one gets hated on like LeBron James, bro.
You cannot win that entry.
Steph doesn't get hated on.
He's beloved, man. Yes, because he stayed. Just like everybody.
If you look at everybody that we name... The loyalty is... The love is because of the same one jersey.
Oh, no, no.
Well, before Dirk won a championship, they used to hate on Dirk.
Who?
Oh, a lot of people used to hate on Dirk. When they lost, man, they were talking. Oh, this is the one playoff series. No, no, no, because first of all, he lost to D. Wade in 06, and then he lost the playoff series. Even though he was in Dallas, they kept saying that he couldn't win and he not a leader and, you know, all this, that, and the third. Now, he did win that in 2011. I'm just saying they was hating on him for a little bit even though he was loyal to the soil. I'm just saying Steph can leave Golden State Because he's 39. He's going to be 39 in March. That's what we think. At 39, he should be able to leave a team that look like the bad news best.
I like what you said. He should be able to leave. No, he can leave. I think all of them usually did the same thing. I think it's okay for me to.
Go outside of this motherfucking... Nope. Sit your ass back down. You stay there so I can finish your career.
It's just a weird thing because these guys are lasting longer.
Yeah. The past was done.
Then now you have a Steph Curry who's still playing like an all NBA player.
And he is literally sitting there like.
He's going to waste the next three years of his career on a team that can't go on. He can still average between 25 to 30, and he's going to waste it on this Golden State Warriors team that is going absolutely nowhere. And I know Jimmy Butler's coming back. I don't care if they got Jimmy Butler, Jimmy Jam, Jimmy Buffett.
It won't matter. They can have Jimmy Got Soul.
Won't matter. Jimmy Got Soul. Jimmy Got Soul. Jimmy Got Soul. They can have that Jimmy, too.
It won't matter. Jimmy Butler ain't saving this team. This Warriors team is cooked. That is the decision he made. They're going to... They put a lot of bread in front of him. I would have made that decision, too.
How much did he sign for?
What was his extension?
Three years, 110?
Two for 110?
That's a lot of chicken right there.
Hey, two years for 110, I can lose some games. Or two for 116, excuse me.
Hey, two years for 116, I can lose some games. Swag it. Could you be happy with 116 and losing?
Man.
You won four rings. Your legacy is cemented. It just seems like this franchise. Steph's legacy is cemented. He's a four-time champ. I'm just saying, he don't have to play another game, and he's going to get all the love in the world. So I think for him, he's loyal. He's not going to try to dip. The only way it would really work is if he forces the worst in.
No, but he's no different than every player that's at that moment in time. Like, I got four rings. I got this. I can still. This is not Dirk at the end. I'm still an elite player, right? So it's like, hey, listen, I can get a fifth ring, maybe a sixth if I'm on the right team. So I can sit here and make a push for the best point guard ever because I can still produce, but the team ain't in that mode yet. So it's one of those things where business-wise, are you going to sit here and say, you know what?
We need him to get these another ring or hopefully two.
We're just going to break the fucking bank.
We're going to go to Silicon Valley and we're just going to do some shit that we don't supposed to do and hopefully get him two rings. Or we're going to look like the worst people ever and do a business deal where we release him.
And break this team back down to bones.
I think when you talk about Steph Curry, if he is going to leave, it needs to be a situation where they work together.
Yeah.
It needs to be one where he's like, hey, listen, these are the two or three teams that I want to go to and you work with him. He's done enough that you should do that. But when I look at Steph Curry last year, dog, that man, we talking about how old he is.
He's 38.
He averaged 27. He still puts butts in seats. He's still box office every time. Listen, people show up early. to Steph Curry games still just to watch him warm up.
I know.
He got to be the only player, like, they show up just to watch. They want to see the shoddy hits from the tunnel. And they want to see him do all the stuff with the hood on and all that.
He said he's a warrior for life, Brandon. So that's, he going, he going. Stay true to that. It is what it is.
I'm just saying, I'm not telling you that Steph has to leave. I just know that he's not going to win. And I think it's going to be unfortunate that a guy at basically 39 years old can still average 27, but that 27 is going to be pointless when he could be averaging 26, 27 and possibly winning a championship.
But again....
When you look at history.
I guess he got four rings, so it's enough.
I'm just saying, when you look at history and you're looking at the guys that he's trying to jump in that realm with, you're going to either win it and you retire like Jordan, or you're going to lose. In the same jersey that you built. Bird, all of them. You're going to lose?
You already got Steph at number one, though. No.
Over Magic? I mean, Steph himself said that he feels like he's... Nah. I get what he feels like. On this very show. You can feel like I'm... What?
Steph versus Magic is a landslide in Magic's fate.
Man, you know, you crazy. Manny would agree with you, Brandon, but Steph himself said he feels.
Like he's... Everyone believes with me. I mean, you know, there's a top 75. There's a list that comes out every year.
I can tell you right now. You asked him the question. Magic Johnson is actually number four.
On that list.
Oh.
But you like square lists, Gil.
I like the list that actually is real. Like, you know, when they say, oh, man, that 75 list ain't real.
You know, who did that? These squares did it? The squares, not the circle.
So there's 75 people that have 75 by their name, and then there's a bunch of people that we think should be on there.
Do they actually have it? No.
There was the 50 that got grandfathered in, and 25 more got added to it. Like you've always pointed out, they don't go back and redo the list. And boost some of that original 50 to maintain the legacy and aura of the NBA.
But our opinion, do the people who we think should have those jackets, do they have the 75 jacket?
No. Okay. So the square people who are voting, that vote is real.
No matter what we say, no matter what we can say, we don't like it, we don't do this. When they say this is the MVP and that nigga's up here with the trophy, that is real.
Our opinion is not real. It's just our opinion.
Jason Tatum, he should be the finals MVP. That's our opinion at this point. The person who has it, that's real. And those are the people who vote. They sit in it.
So I make my argument off of what is actually real.
I do not care about the opinion because our opinion don't matter.
Why you got to step in front of Magic? Magic got five championships to step four.
I didn't really get a chance to see Magic like that.
That don't mean you can't. Just because you didn't see him don't mean he didn't exist.
I mean, that's fair. If I didn't see him, I ain't.
On my list.
Hey, listen, I'm just saying, like, you know, like, I'm just saying, like, Magic has nine first-team All-NBAs to steps four.
Okay, you don't got to read the resume.
Three MVPs to two.
We're not going to do the resume thing because Magic's resume is impressive.
That's what I'm saying. Magic, when it comes down to hard work, Magic has three finals MVPs. Magic's resume compared to Steph.
What's the point, Stu?
No, Steph's going to win in points. Magic's going to win hands down in assists.
Assists, rebounds?
Yeah, assists and rebounds is going to be Magic.
Points and threes is going to be Steph. And they both have super teams. And they both had really good teams. And they both low-key changed basketball.
Magic being a big.
Point guard, fast breaks.
But again, it's... But when it comes down to hardware, if you look at hardware, I thought Steph too because I watched more Steph. But when I said, whoa, more championships, more first-team All-NBAs, more MVPs, more finals MVPs, I had to say, yo, it's Magic. Got to go old school right here. I can't do it. I got Magic one, Steph two.
The list says Magic is fourth all-time NBA.
That's fair.
When Steph jumps them, that means Steph is fourth.
Four and magic went to five i'm not gonna i'm not gonna argue with our opinions because our opinions is jaded by what we like me if i'm arguing top 10 i'm going to always say are we doing consensus or we're doing personal because if we're going to do our personal then none of it matters right because the personal list is just how they make us feel so my my personal list 80s, 90s, my list starts at 90 on. Magic, Magic, Magic, Shaq, Bill Russell's not there, Wilt's not there.
Those guys are not in my list. Well, the senior citizen's going to hate you, boy. Yeah, but I don't care.
It's my list.
Damn.
Let's shift it back to contemporary talk. Luka Doncic, Gil, one of your favorite players in the league, had a situation with Warriors rookie Yaxel Lindenberg. Yaxel, his Welcome to the NBA moment after Perry was seen talking trash to each other throughout the second quarter. Well, Yaxel getting his first text.
As a result.
Brady talked about Luke was only one for six against him, but he was pointing at him all game at one point, called him the P word, told him to bring his butt back in the game. Steve Kerr lied, subbed him back in. Did hit that buzzer beater in his face. But after the game, Luka and Yaxel had this to say about the situation.
Yeah, I mean, he was talking crazy. But, you know, I wasn't trying to talk back, you know, this season. I tried to get text. So it was the first time that was not a double tap because I didn't say nothing. So I'm working on it. But as you see, I think it worked great. Can you take us through the half-court shot?
I mean, there was a lot of time still on the clock, I think, when you shot it, like three seconds. Did you kind of have your mind made up that?
Oh, yeah.
I knew that was going on before I got it in my hands.
So I work on those.
I had a lot of respect for him.
You know, just because just watching. I didn't really watch the NBA much. I just watched highlights, seeing them, you know, kill people all the time. But then being in there firsthand, just watching all the whining and complaining, I lost all respect, man.
Like, that was awful.
Like, me getting frustrated, it's not about, like, the foul being called. It's about, like, him complaining the entire game. And then you get the foul called.
Congratulations, bro.
And then you talk to me like you did something great, bro.
Come on, dog.
That shit's weak. I was telling him he sucks. He can't score on me. You talking, you can't score on me. I said it the whole game. I said a couple cuss words, obviously. You know, that's why I got the technical and all that. But I was letting him know because, you know, he was laughing and talking all this because of that one foul call, and he didn't. His only bucket on me was a banker from half court. Like, I know it's a team sport. You know, he had, what did he have? I can't see. He had 28 on us as a team. Me, I took my matchup personally.
Tried not to get caught on the fouls. Tried my best. I was thinking about playing him with my hands by my back to see if that worked. Probably would have still got a foul called, but.
Interesting.
The Y's are all delusional. I wish this was O-N-B-A where the other team, the Golden State Warriors would say, hey, you by yourself.
You by yourself?
I did.
You crazy. You want to watch?
Let's watch.
I'll see you with the video.
I'll show you a man who's getting his ass about to be cooked until the defensive player of the year keeps helping.
Draymond Green played great defense on Luka.
Yaxel was locking up.
You're not stopping nobody one-on-one. The reason Luka wasn't getting fully to the basket is because Draymond Green is helping. Draymond Green is stopping Luka. Draymond Green is sitting there. He's over here. Yaxel's coming. Yaxel's getting beat. Draymond's stepping like this.
But where was Draymond Green at when Yaxel wasn't guarding him?
Because he scored 28.
Yaxel Foley. I know what he said.
We can watch it. We was watching it.
Show the highlights again. We are scorers. You tell me if he's beat. They don't have the other one? That's not Yaxu. Where they're looking at the plays.
Y'all don't have the video where they're breaking down all the plays on him?
That's not Yaxu.
Look at him.
I wish I can. I want the video. I want the video. Play his hands down.
Yes.
Made him pass out of it. Like, these are Luka highlights. I want the highlights where it was. They have Yaxel.
Oh, they have Yaxel.
They have Yaxel on them the whole time when they're putting the plays together.
And you will watch. Luka's burning them.
Draymond is stepping up.
Look at Draymond. You see where Draymond's going?
What Draymond just did there, that's what he's doing for Axel.
Of course, Axel can't see it.
But Draymond is playing that back line defense that's stopping him.
Ooh, with them boys finger rolling.
So, you're actually out of pocket for saying Luka whines and complains too much?
No, no, no.
We know that. That's easy.
Should he just kept that? I mean, him saying Luka's whining, we all know that's the case.
Ooh, come here.
But what I'm saying is when he's saying he ain't scoring on me and he's saying he scored on us because he feels those other 25 points wasn't on me because he couldn't score on me. And he's not realizing... As a defender, I'm moving. You're irrelevant. The person that's in front of me is irrelevant. I'm paying attention to the back line. So when I'm driving and I'm sitting here doing my earthy jerk move, and when I go, Draymond Green, stop him.
Who's stopping him? Draymond Green. Draymond Green.
But what I'm saying is look at how it's being played. So if Luka had to do a fadeaway step back, Whoever's guarding said, nigga, I stopped you.
Who's stopping him?
Who's really stopping him right here? Draymond Green.
But he did that.
What I'm saying is that's how it always looked for Axl. But Draymond Green is plugging this shit up. And you want to take credit for it.
We all know.
And, man, you can't guard him one-on-one. You can't guard a high-level scorer one-on-one. You have to have a backline guy that's stopping, preventing him from driving. Draymond Green prevents people from driving.
So he'll load over.
Like, you sitting there talking, you shoot the ball. Shoot, take me and turn my greens like this.
All that back line shit, you actually locked that shit up.
That's why I wish, I wish they had the video so you can actually see it.
It's okay. It's okay.
Like, when Lakers, Lakers, when Lakers used to run that, I played defense shit.
What stopped me from going in there? What was his number?
Bynum.
No, no, no.
Pau Gasol?
No, before that. Shaquille O'Neal.
Shaquille, the reason Derrick Fisher and all them was great defenders was because he's back there with no fouls.
I'm not going back.
I'm not trying to.
Jump while he's in there. So you look like you're very good at.
Defense because you have Shaq back there.
Right here, if we watch it, you will see Shaquille.
He's guarded him. He's getting past him. He's getting past him. Draymond Green's right there. The axle falls off like it's a switch. He did it like four times.
So, Luka can't score like that then. That's all you're telling me.
You're making me pass. You're not playing by yourself.
That's why I said I wish this was old school because Draymond Green.
Will be like, hey, young fella, you're going to have to play him by yourself tonight.
He did.
When T-Mac said, hey, Melo, I'm scoring 50 on you. and Melo said something, Denver was like, hey, we're not helping. This is all you. It's your welcome to the league. You got to stop this man by yourself. T-Mac had 50.
All right, so no help.
We ain't digging. We ain't digging.
No nothing.
The first thing that Yaxel said that was kind of weird to me was, I ain't never really watched him play before.
All I seen is highlights. But that's his generation. We're in a TikTok.
That's a jab. That's like.
Well, no, no, it's not a jab.
That's real. Like, I don't watch.
But kids don't want to say.
You don't want to feel like you're sitting around watching Luka. Hey, Nick, if you already got beef with him.
Nick, if you watch Luka play, you would know Luka complains a lot. No one is surprised, Luka.
I'm actually not offended that Yaxel said what he said. I like a young guy that comes in the league with confidence and is popping.
Hey, man, I'm going to talk. You know what?
You're going to do all this. I'm going to let you know I'm going to be here all night. But I will say there's two sides to this young fella. See, you're going to have to see this. You're going to have to see Luka a lot. And now Luka always going to have the ball in his hands. And on a soft Tuesday where Luka might not be turned up because the Golden State Warriors are bad and it's game 30, Luka going to be, he going to be turned up just for you from now on.
Offensive foul. Push off. Offensive foul. Lay.
Lay. Lay. Help defense to stop it. Yeah, of course. Lay.
Easy lay.
On his hip. Easy lay.
All I'm saying, white privilege.
White privilege. Come on, man. You just hate because Luka White.
He's getting fouls that he didn't.
He always gets fouls. He damn near leaves the league with foul attempts every year.
Yaxel, he wouldn't have got them fouls. Listen. That's all I'm saying. I don't mind.
Some people are offended that Yaxel had the nerve to talk to me.
I'm not that guy. I feel like, listen, if you want to.
That's what I'm saying. I like that.
Young fella, if you feel like you can back it up, go ahead and do that. But just know this. Now that you done said what you said in the game and in the postgame, Luca is always going to, hey, listen, he's always going to remember that. So now he's always going to have a reason to turn up. You know, whenever I was playing against guys that could really score, I would always try to die. I'm going to try to keep it down to a minimum because I don't want to turn him up.
You're going to have to see.
That, man. You're going to have to see him like Brooks and LeBron.
Here you go again.
Luca is a great member. Look how easy this is. Fake, buy, stop me. It's the defense back there stopping him from going all the way.
Easy work.
Pump fake, jump, he jumps here, this man stops him.
The problem with being young sometimes is you don't know what you don't know. Yaxl just don't know this. He had a good night defensively tonight. But he's signed up about four to five ass whoopings coming. Hey, ass whoopings from Luka.
On the way.
BTA is on the way. Because now Luka's going to be like, oh, I don't care if the Warriors are in 10th place. When I see you, you and I know what it is. And that's the problem. Luka's going to have to play some defense, too. Luka's going to have to play some defense.
On Yaxu?
We all know Luka don't guard nobody.
That's the thing.
Grandma on green.
You actually better hope every time he play Luka, Draymond's there.
Because I can tell you this. I know you don't know. When you in the fight, and you know how to be like.
You know this very well. You know how that dude be... They be filming, and dude be camera, and he's fighting the dude. And dude like, yo, punch back. Why he ain't punching back?
Come on, nigga, swing. And there's a dude behind the camera with the gun. You better not... That's Draymond Green. Behind the camera like... I dare you to swear.
Looking for the Glock, y'all. Looking for the Glock, y'all. Looking for the Glock, y'all. That was a game.
Like I said, hey, I'm a Glaxo. He gets the pop off.
I thought he played really good defense, but at the end of the day, he done signed up for some future ass whoopings.
They on the way. Yeah, I learned my lesson.
I do not talk trash to a motherfucker who got an ultra green light.
No, that is new. That's a smart move. All right, well, let's... Keep this thing moving. But before we do, shout out to everybody in the chat.
We got 25,000 people in the chat with us today.
Yes, sir.
Lovely Thursday.
Chad, if you have not done so already, hit that like button for us. Show your love and support. Make sure you subscribe to the channel as well. So it's time for our next segment presented by Amazon Prime. And I got a special delivery. Yeah, that is a monster. That happened to him. I got a special.
Delivery here in the arena. Okay, what we got?
Just for me. Just for me.
So we're making our picks for some of the biggest games this week based on which teams have us feeling confident, then sharing what we're ordering on Prime to get ready for tip-off. So Prime Video has a big doubleheader Friday night with the Knicks taking on the Celtics at 7 p.m. Eastern, followed by a Texas showdown between the Rockets and Spurs at 9.30 p.m.
Eastern.
Let's start in the East. Both the Celtics and Knicks took opening night Ls, with New York having their ring night spoiled by Tyrese Maxey, LeBron, and the Sixers. while the Celtics tricked off a historic debut from Paul George by blowing a 22-point lead to the Pistons in Detroit. Both squads looking to get their first win of the season, but let's take it to the couch.
Swaggy, we're going to start with you.
Which team has you feeling confident in the Knicks-Celtics game?
I got the Knicks.
Just like Trey, I would put my money on the Knicks just because they still got an all-around team.
Still the champs. You still got to beat them.
And looking at Boston last game, it's a bunch of teams with a lot of people just coming out of nowhere that I don't know.
I like your honesty.
Yeah, it's just a bunch of people.
Hey, man, don't lie to the people.
It's a bald-headed dude.
You mean Walsh?
Walsh like Seafielders. He's been there for years, though, bro. I didn't know... Charlie V. Cousins. That's my dog.
I'm not going to.
I'm playing, no. Charlie V. and Charlie V. tight. Yeah, I like Charlie V.
I ain't going to have Charlie V. coming after me, man.
Nah, we tight.
You don't sound like.
It. You're an instigator. I am.
I am.
So you feeling confident in the Knicks? They're going to get their first win of the season.
Where's it at?
Huh? Boston.
I'm going Boston.
Yeah, I've been winning, too.
I think I've been shooting 53s, 57 threes.
Hmm.
Paul Jordan looks good. I think Jason Tatum will have a bounce back. That's what those type of players do. Like, you have a bad game, you bounce back. That's what makes you great. So, you know, a decent game to above average game, I think they can pull it out.
All right, Brendan, let's shift over to you. Nick Seltzer, who are you feeling confident in in that Nick Seltzer's game?
I'm going to go with the Knicks because you're talking about guys that didn't shoot the ball well. The Knicks had plenty of guys. Brunson was 6-19. I think Bridges was 2-8.
O.G.
Was like 3-12, and Carl Anthony Towns was in foul trouble. I think they rectify some of that in Boston, and they get it done. Like I said, I know Tatum didn't play well, but a lot of the other pieces played well for Boston. So the Knicks basically had everything going wrong. Their top four guys, three of them didn't play well, and one of them was in foul trouble.
I think they get the dub on the road.
So it's going to be a very entertaining, interesting game. What are you guys getting off Amazon Prime to get right for this big-time Eastern Conference matchup on Friday night?
I know what I got.
You know what I'm saying?
Friday night, man, you know what, man? I'm going to order me some gummy bears, man. Just get me some gummy.
Bears, man.
A bunch of gummy bears. Yeah, some gummy bears, man. Get me some gummy bears.
I'm going to give me a onesie because it's raining. I want to feel warm. Nice little onesie. With the feet in them.
Yeah, you look.
Like a brother that wears a onesie.
With the feet in it.
Yeah, I'm just be out chilling on the couch. What you gonna get, G.A.? What you getting, Gil? A real Walker Kessler jersey? That could be beneficial.
Nah, I'm going, you gotta go to Lakers or get that.
I'm gonna get me.
Some new socks.
Some socks.
Yeah, yeah, I love socks. You should get some new socks.
I've seen your feet. You should keep them covered at all times. You're lying.
His feet good now.
You're lying. You're lying. No tails. My stuff don't fall off no more.
What? Yeah.
You didn't have foot surgery or something?
No, no.
They don't go. I don't even go outside.
You don't play no more?
I don't go outside. You know what I mean? It touches wood and marble.
You sure?
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Don't go outside.
Don't go outside.
Don't hit the gravel.
Gravel? Okay.
No, gravel and grass?
All right. No.
You can also order some water off Prime and hand it to Jason Tatum so he can hand it to Paul George during the game like the internet's been saying.
He needs to do.
Wow. The internet's been very spicy. 623 National Hydration Day. Okay. Okay.
Pass the water.
All right, but let's shift over to the West. Wait, hold on. I'm just going to ask a question. When you say Prime, they sponsoring? I said this segment.
Yeah.
Amazon Prime.
I got failed.
You know what I mean?
You feel me? Nick, we get more money.
We get more money.
We get bonuses.
We get more money.
You know what I mean?
We get bonuses. Let's shout out to Prime, baby. We get bonuses.
We get money. We get bonuses.
Get that money. Throw me the money, too.
Get money.
You're also getting fast streaming.
You didn't catch it?
You ain't giving us no dollars. Nah, man. Y'all on the fiction.
But you're getting fast shipping, great streaming as well to watch these games on Prime Video.
But now let's shift over to the West.
Women in the Spurs got smacked by the Thunder in their season opener Tuesday night, while the Rockets smacked the Mavs in their season opener in Houston Wednesday. San Antonio went 3-1 against the Rockets last season, including two straight wins. But let's take it to the couch. Brendan, we're going to start with you. Which team has you feeling confident in the Rockets-Spurs game?
I got the Spurs. It's in San Antonio. Wimby's a competitor, great player. He understands.
He played awful. Awful in that first game. Wimby's going to have a big-time game. I look for the Spurs to bounce back. I look for big. Whenever I watch those playoff games, whenever a big fella played poorly, that next game, he corrected that right away.
Wimby's going to be dominant. Give me the Spurs in this one. All right, Swaggy, let's shift over to you.
I'm kind of nervous. This is your pick. Who you pick?
Who you taking? Man, I'll be trying to cheat off his paper, man.
Yeah, you know, I got it. I want to see how you feel about the Spurs.
I've been right. We make a little right. And now we getting bonuses, too?
Right, shit. We get prime code. Yeah, man.
Same day should be. I like that fixed income talk. I don't like that. I think he's going to be the only one making the money, man. Because I know they're going to watch film.
They're going to see that he floated for about 30-something minutes. They didn't even look for him in the fourth quarter. He didn't have no shots in the fourth quarter. So that means he didn't help on the comeback in the fourth quarter. And they're going to have to figure out how to get him more involved But it's going to be against a team who has a bunch of tall athletes.
Yeah. That's what I was worried about.
Who going to be going on Wimby? Singum?
I got Jabari. You got Jabari? Yeah.
He never put the ball on the floor. And then just meet.
Him at the... Ah, man.
I'm going to give it to the Spurs.
Okay. Ooh.
Because I just, when it comes to guard play, I mean, damn, they do have eight men over there, but he ain't going to be able to guard all three of the guards.
Nope.
I'll go with the young people. Go with the Spurs, man. It's 50.5.
I'll give 50.5 because they're at home.
Man, say it with your chest, man.
50.5 is enough to feel confident, Gil. No, I don't feel confident. But 50.5, the majority.
50.5.
It may be a slim amount of confidence, but it's enough to feel confident.
I really don't feel confident about it because. What they have an advantage over is the one team that can go damn near 6'11 across the board.
That's who he's playing against.
Swaggy, let's shift over to you. I'm going Slim Reaper, Houston. I feel like he just proven something on the low. People ain't been talking about KD. He ain't been mentioned that much. You got to forget who he is. Y'all forgetting it's KD at the end of the day.
Yeah.
And you got to– that game was so balanced, well-balanced. That last Houston game I watched, they going to be all right this year. I think they're going to be the top four, top three team in the West. I'm going to take Houston this year. And because Spurs still trying to figure out Harper. It's just different playing against starters than the second unit. He had a rough going in the beginning against OKC. So, yeah, they still got to figure all that out too.
Okay.
That's a really good.
Take, man. You know what I'm saying?
You're doing good, boy. Make me proud, man. God damn it.
Yeah, I hated this team. Nah, man.
Because normally you give me something silly, but when you talk about Harper being forced to play with the starters as opposed to the backups, that's.
A big-time point. That's a big-time point.
I'm rolling with you when you're right. You're just not right much.
I'm going to tell you something that's about to be a problem At some point, they're going to try to put him back on the bench. Oh, my God.
They can't do that. It's over then.
Once you do that, it's going to be over. And, I mean, he's young enough to just be like, all right, whatever. But low key, he's not going to be very, very happy. And it could change.
If they try to, I'm going to tell you this. long-term, if they try to put Harper back on that bench, they could lose.
That young fella. No, no, no, no. I can make it up. I can give him Max.
No, no, no, no.
I can give him that.
Wait. Hold on.
Remember what happened with Kawhi?
Yeah. Remember when they was like, yeah, we want you to take a little less? And Kawhi was like, I ain't taking a dime less, man.
Max me. They're like, nah, wait next time. He's like, Max me now. They said, no, wait. He said, okay. And then when they came back around, like, we got the Max for you, Kawhi was like, I don't want it.
Mm-hmm. My knee hurts.
You can piss some of these guys off.
You can piss them off.
I forgot about that twice. These young boys, they different than when we played. They got a little bit more power. They got a lot of lip on their... They got a lot of dip on their chip. A lot of bass in their voice. They swelling up.
What you swelling up for, Claude? They got a lot of air in their lungs, man. These young boys different, man. They ain't scared of nobody. We used to be living in fear.
Don't you say that to me? Oh, boss gonna get mad. I better get in here.
Let's keep it moving.
I changed for you, boss. What you want me to do, play defense? I swear I'll play. Play some defense.
What is wrong with you, man?
They did have y'all scared.
What is wrong with you, man?
Thanks to Amazon Prime for sponsoring this segment. Whatever you're looking forward to, Prime helps you get the feeling you're after. with the entertainment you love and fast shipping on the things you need. From streaming to fast shipping, it's on Prime.
All right. Hey, watch it on Prime.
We're about to get the bonuses until you started with the slave talk. Now we done. Now Prime ain't going to be messing with us.
Oh, man. It just gets better.
Man, we're about to dump our salad.
We got three wizards here on the couch. So let's talk a little with them. We're not going to do much this season, so we might as well get to it. We might as well get to it. We might as well get to.
It while we can. You don't want to talk tomorrow about the Wizards? No, we can talk tomorrow.
So Wizards opened their season Wednesday night at the crib against the Giannis-less Bucs. They were without number one overall pick, A.J. DeBonsa, who missed the game with an ankle injury, but they did have their all-star duo, Anthony Davis-Trey Young, played together for the first time. show Chocolate City why a new era of Washington Wizards basketball is officially underway. Let's take a look at the highlights if we can.
Please.
Let's go.
So Anthony Davis looking for a contract extension. He was playing like he wants them chips with dip.
What'd I say?
In his Wizards debut, AD dominated from the opening tip, putting up 10 points and 6 rebounds in the first quarter and finishing his Wizards debut with game highs of 34 points and 12 rebounds.
Along with four assists. Shout out to AD Healthy. AD on the way.
He said he was on a mission this season. Said y'all been playing with his name a little bit too much. And he's about to get right. That AD doing it all too, right?
Yes, sir.
But Milwaukee wasn't going down quietly. New Look Bucks playing their first regular season game since trading Giannis. They got 24 points from Tyler Hero. 22 from Jaime Jaquez Jr., the pride of Camarillo. Almost some great outlets. Took a five-point lead into the break.
In this game. Look at, oh, ice track.
Woo!
Hello. He still got it, too. A lot of people in the Wizards with things to prove. Oh, my God, that's the pass.
Milwaukee's still winning.
Pass it to the basket.
Milwaukee's still winning.
But in the third quarter, Anthony Davis went to work. AD exploded for 18 points in the period, dominating the paint, knocking down mid-range jumpers, and getting to the line.
His performance was.
So impressive, the Washington crowd started showering him with MVP chants. Have you guys ever heard MVP chants? In Washington.
Nah, not really. They gave you MVP chance? Did they mean it?
What? Okay.
Stop the cap. MVP.
And while AD was putting on a scoring clinic, Trey Young was running the offense like a maestro. Young finished with 20 points and a game high, 13 assists. Trey had just one turnover while controlling the tempo and creating opportunities for his teammates. So, Wizards trail by three heading into the fourth quarter, but that's when everything changed. Wizards opened the final frame hitting their first nine shots Went on a 21-2 run to build a double-digit lead. Keyshawn George added 18 points to Bilal Koulibaly. Contributed 11 points to four steals. Arguably the best number zero in Wizards history.
Bilal Koulibaly.
Wizards outscored Milwaukee 38-23 in the fourth quarter to seal their opening night win. They're looking good out here. Like Bub Karen just said, they got the shackles taken off now. No longer tanking for the future. They're trying to win Right now. So, Brandon, we'll start with you. And make sure you protect your check.
Oh, yeah.
With the Washington Wizards. What are your biggest takeaways from the Wizards opening night win.
Over the Bucs? First and foremost, I've got to be honest with the people. I'm employed by the Wizards. I ain't going to get fired.
Full disclosure.
We are not a journalistic show. We get back.
Yes, indeed.
I'm going to be heavily biased when we talk Wizards on this show. But in all seriousness, AD looked good. That's all I really needed to see. I knew what Trey Young was going to do.
A.D. looks healthy, looks a little bit lighter.
If Anthony Davis is playing like that, combine what A.J.
DeBantz is going to bring to the table.
This team is going to be very dangerous in the Eastern Conference. A.J., legit 6'9, on the perimeter, gets downhill. This team is going to be in transition when you got Trey pushing the rock, A.D.
Running the lane. You got George. You got A.J. DeBance.
And then in the half court, when things slow down, you got three different guys that can take over.
That's key.
We talked at the beginning of this show, like, hey, when things slow down for Miami, who's going to take it over? The Wizards, I'm not saying the Wizards are going to be better than Miami, but the Wizards don't have those questions.
They have a plethora of guys.
Hey, when the game slows down, Milwaukee was up.
They went to AD. He's, uh, bully ball.
Get your little self out the way real smooth. You got Trey Young, mid pick and roll action. And then what AJ brings to the table, he brings another score. These Wizards are going to be fun to watch. They're probably one of the most talented teams the Wizards have ever had. And I think it's going to be, they're going to turn things around in Chocolate City. Them 60 lost seasons are a thing of the past.
Swaggy, you're a former squad. Say something nice about the home team.
Wizards go Wizards, man. What?
What the hell?
Playing against Milwaukee. Milwaukee look better than shit.
Swaggy, your family in Milwaukee still looking for you.
They look good. I like the hero.
I'm just mad he didn't show no highlights of my dog hero out there.
Man, you disloyal.
It's been bad.
It's been bad. Listen, you mad because your time in D.C.
I'm just saying the whole crowd, nobody was at the game. I seen the whole front row was just empty.
It's a late-arriving crowd in D.C.
They playing in front of nobody.
They coming in by the fourth quarter.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. The fourth quarter, yeah, yeah.
The only thing I like was Trae Young, black shoes he had on.
You mean like how A.D.
Was playing?
A.D.
18 in the third quarter?
A.D. looked good.
Yeah.
But.
Who was the other big on Milwaukee? I don't know.
Who?
Who was he having to... Who was playing defense on him? That's what I'm saying. I know Milwaukee.
Miles Turner was out there.
Like I said, Milwaukee is guard heavy. Guard heavy team. I want to see him, you know, do this versus... You know, it's only first game.
Him do that versus what the same people he's been doing it his whole career? I'm saying all season. All season. 27 all season. Just all season.
And I want to see how they fit AJ in with him because he going to need the ball. You know, it was a lot of Your turn, Trae Young, holding the ball, throwing lobs, you know. A young guy needs to have some plays where he can do some ISO work.
Also, back doors, he needs to.
Let me ask you a question. Did you watch a lot of A.J. at BYU?
You did?
You did? Or you didn't?
A little bit. Watched highlights.
So you know how well he can score.
He can score really good.
Just watch the highlights.
He can really play.
That's just generational, BYU. They watch the highlights.
That's what I'm saying. A.J. gets to it.
Yeah, that's another diet and I just thought he's not like the buck So we're not gonna do too much Milwaukee's gonna be one of the worst teams in the for sure but the fact that for me the what I was looking at like Damn ad looks good That man.
Listen 80s. It's 80 going to the Hall of.
Fame 80 the top 75 player, right? He's already a top 75 player you seen the list so when you got a guy that still got a lot of juice and that's playing at that high level, and then we add in that A.J. the monster coming in, too, man, I'm telling you, man, the Wizards is going to be an exciting, fun team to watch because they're really talented, man.
They got long athletes all over the place. Bilal Koulibaly, Keyshawn George, Aiton looked good off the bench. You saw Aiton catching them lobs. And Trae Young going to.
Make sure everybody gets them. Trae Young didn't even play well.
But he's going to be able to control the game offensively.
The Wizards are pretty good. Star player. Yeah, Sar didn't have much.
AD was eating. Sar only had six. But Aiden came off the bench, had 11 points in 15 minutes. You know.
What I'm saying?
This is a weird roster because it was so much hidden talent on it trying to build and get what they got.
Allegedly.
Now you have a whole bunch of kids that said hey turn it around let's win you have a lot of talent sitting in on this roster that any of them can play so it's trying to figure out who is going to be the top seven top eight right because you got chris middleton oh he's the vet but then you got guards and small fours over here who can.
Get to the get to the yams so.
You're this this roster is basically who we're going to Who's not going to get any rotation minutes?
Oh, that's going to be easy. You know how you're going to figure it out? Because here.
There's just so many.
There's so much talent here.
I like that.
Where.
He can shoot that thing.
This is a great problem to have, but this reminds.
Me of Houston. Was it three years ago?
Where they had.
Like, they had.
Damn near everybody on the bench. It was just picky people. That looks like this roster right here where they're going to figure out who's going to be long-term and then just cut the fat now.
I'm thinking middle team.
What if I say, could that be a problem if you don't cut the fat now, like you said?
The guys are going to determine it themselves. It's going to be real easy.
We all know there's a difference between playing to win and and playing to develop. When you're on a rebuilding team, you're playing to develop. The guys that were developing, the guys that adjust quickly, quicker, to when it's time to play to win, those are going to be the guys that the coaching staff feels comfortable with. Because you already know.
Hold on a second.
When you're playing to develop... If you.
Miss three threes in the fourth quarter, hey, man, we just hoping you get your percentage up.
Keep shooting.
But when you're.
Planning to win, you miss three threes, you might not get in the next game. So the guy, whoever figures that out the quickest, those are going to be the guys that solidify themselves in rotation.
That's what I feel like the problem was because they was taking somebody in development, like rebuilding.
And then you end up having AD and Trae Young, and it's like, oh, we can't rebuild. We got....
These two motherfuckers.
Because you got Champagne over there playing 20. Like, this wasn't a blowout game for Champagne to get 21 minutes. A in 15, that's how much he should be playing. Carvington, 19 minutes. Trey Johnson, 19 minutes.
Champagne's minutes might get cut when A.J.
Comes.
When A.J.
Comes.
Wouldn't he be starting? Yeah.
Yeah, I'm just saying, when A.J. starts, that means he's going to bump somebody between George and Koulibaly.
So now Koulibaly's going to come.
He playing 30-something minutes.
That's what I'm saying.
Koulibaly might have to share minutes with Champagne or whatever. But Koulibaly's coming off the best.
That's what I'm saying. But that's what I'm saying.
They've gotten so many top picks that they all are here now.
And they're like, we get to play.
These boys, like, usually the laziness and... That, you know, we're going to lose again. They look hungry. They look like, yo, we finally get to go out there and play.
It's my time. Like, it's all day time.
Hey, listen. Hey, listen.
That's going to be the key. On a team like this, minutes are no longer given.
They're earned. And so the guys.
That understand how to play in those high leverage moments, the guys that make the coaching staff feel good about being able to take assignments from practice to the games, those are going to be the guys to play.
These are what we like to call good problems.
You got a team full of talent and the coaching staff lets the players determine who's going.
To do what.
I'd rather have a team with a lot of talent than a team that I'm looking over there.
Like, whew, hope I don't.
Have to play that guy.
Like, you know what I'm saying?
They're going to lead the league in scoring.
Was it?
He scored 128 yesterday and was horrible.
From a three.
And AJ.
Horrible from a three.
And AJ not. And no, AJ DeBonsa. As of yet. They're playing. They're playing. He's going to need his 30.
They're playing fast as shit.
He needs his 30 minutes for sure. Easy work.
But let's shift over to AJ. Missed the season opener. Going to miss the game Friday as well. Dealing with an ankle injury. Suffering in preseason. Will playing with two former All-Stars hurt or help AJ DeBonsa's development?
Both. It's going to hurt his numbers today, but it's going to help him understand how to prepare and win.
Now.
Right.
So when you're talking about our number one picks going to bad teams and getting all the minutes, getting all the points and then.
Trying to figure out how to win later.
Versus, you know, Magic Johnson goes to a team and he has to know how to win now, right? He's going to be in a situation where you're going to have a winning record if everyone stays healthy, so you're going to be preparing to win, right? There's no going in the game and they're telling you, allegedly, hey, slow down, right? Here, we're trying to win some games, right? So they're not going to be with the foolishness, so he's going to learn how to be a professional faster than most number one picks. So the numbers will be hurt, but... I don't know if the numbers are going to be impacted that bad. We got somebody like Trey who loves to throw lobs. You got somebody like AD. They're going to be focal points on the defensive side. I'm just saying,
I see it both ways. The Cooper flag, Cooper got to go out there and do whatever he wanted, right? So he's putting those numbers up. But Trey got the ball in his hands a lot. That's why it's gone. Yeah, my 16, yeah, I might average 16, but God damn it, we knew I was going to average 25.
I think you're still being the 20 range. That's impactful. I think you're still being the 20-rank.
Okay, now I could have been 30.
Take these two motherfuckers off the team.
What's up?
Never learned to pick rookie of the year.
That's what I want. That's what I need.
I don't think playing with two guys like AD and Trae Young, I don't think it's going to hurt them. I don't think it's going to hurt them. It's not going to hurt his... I don't think it's going to hurt his development. Could it hurt his rookie year stats?
Yes.
We know that AD needs to get the ball a certain amount along with Trey. Most of the time when you're drafted to a.
Especially in contract years.
Exactly.
But normally when you're the number one pick, you're drafted to a team that don't have a lot of talent and they just let you come out there and shoot all the rocks. That's not going to happen with this team. But AJ is so talented. that he's going to figure out a way to fit in. And then having vets like AD that have won a championship, vets like Chris Middleton that have won a championship.
They're going to be like, yo, listen here, young fella. This is how you pick your spots. This is how you get better.
So I think having good vets with championship pedigree is going to be... a small setback that's going to take him farther in the long run because he's going to learn how to play the right way from the jump. Most young guys come in and they're playing a terrible style. Like, you see Acuff go five for 24 last night. He's shooting everything and he's like, yo, that's not going to be how you need to play on a good team.
He's going to learn to play on a good team right away.
That's enough wizard talk. I.
Man, you a wizard hater, man.
And don't worry, Chocolate City ain't going to lie to you back. I'm going to be loved in the city.
I don't want to go back.
I'm invited to the White House.
You don't want to go there.
What we think this wizard ceiling is, you think that this has the potential to be a top eight team in the Eastern Conference?
Easily.
Easily.
Easily? Top eight? Easily, no. Not easily.
Top eight, yes. Top eight, yes.
Playing it easily for us. but just.
Top eight, yes, definitely for sure.
Top ten, easily, yeah.
They're definitely going to be... I said enough to keep my contract? Brendan, that was very positive from you. Positive Wizards talk.
All right, well, now let's get into Mosey fans quickly before we take off for the day. Let me put my glasses on. Shout out to all the fans in the chat.
The new one or the.
This is still... This is still the in-development one. Contract your... Contract your Mosey fans. Contract your model.
Let me put... My spectacles on.
I got a... I don't want a question from you.
Hailey or Treya?
What?
Hallenberg or whatever his name is. Hailey or Treya? Hailey.
Hailey. So we have a question from Big Red Leeds.
Said, Joe, being the MVP of the hosting space, ask the fellas, who was the host for their growth as players on or off the court who were not coaches? Appreciate you, my light-skinned brother. Appreciate you too, Big Red Leeds. So who was the host for your growth as a player on or off the court who were not coaches?
Who helped you grow as a player, basically, that wasn't a coach?
That wasn't a coach? My rookie year, one of my really good vets was Chris Whitney. Chris Whitney kept me from doing a lot.
Of stupid stuff.
He talked me off the ledge a lot of times, man. So Chris Whitney really helped me out. Post-basketball, as far as in this space, his media and everything, Steve Smith.
You know, Smitty. Smitty helped me out a lot, man.
Just talking and, you know, just sometimes I might be mad.
Because I thought I should be on this show. And he's like, listen, man, it's going to come.
Just take your time and develop your habits in this business. So probably for me, Steve Smith and Chris Whitney.
Swaggy.
I would have to say my brother. And... And... That's about it.
As a rookie in the game, it better be me.
I tried to.
I'm not going to. It can't be Gil.
Gil led you down the path of destruction. I would say. He's still famous today.
I would say Gil. I would say Gil.
I would have to throw Gil because behind closed doors when I was having like rough nights, Gil would call me and like give me confidence and shit.
Yeah, I wouldn't do it.
Plus, just anything. Someone I call and he handle problems. If I was in a situation, I'd call Gil and he'd get.
Us out of that situation.
I'm like Olivia Pope.
Gil plays video games. He comes here.
He got the show at 5.
Seeing that type of shit, I'd be like, damn, he really. Fucking works and likes to talk all day.
He works and likes to talk.
He likes to talk. I get tired.
I be like, God damn, I got to be back at 530 and get me fresh.
Hey, let's talk, man. Just energize.
Let's talk.
Let's talk, motherfucker.
That's how it go.
That's how it go.
We said what we said, Swaggy. Quality programming.
That's crazy.
You do work way too much.
He was a man.
That's because he got all these students.
I don't know how he do it, but it does motivate me.
He's got like four studios in his house.
When you think you're working hard, I think, man, build games for two hours, come here, talk for two hours, then talk for two hours at 5.30.
You're done at 2.30. Yeah, I don't parent no more, though. Oh, okay, okay, okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
For the kids, bro.
They're older.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I'm at that.
What did I tell you about the six years? I'm there, yeah.
Nah, brother.
I'm just saying.
He's messing up. No, he's not. No, he's not. Just tell us. Put a little bed in the garage. Eat Gucci. Ladies and gentlemen, that is not information we would advise for. You cannot put a bed in the garage. Don't put a bed in the garage. No, CPS will be calling. Bacteria.
I would.
Who was your leader?
Who motivated you on and off the court?
When it came to basketball itself, I would say.
Mark Jackson. Big Mark. Mark Jackson.
Helped me understand that We all get shots, and they're going to call your name, and you better be prepared for it. And he prepared me for when Golden State was going to call my name to sub in. And then understanding how to train in.
The NBA, Chris Muller.
Okay.
Shout out to Mully, the legend.
I have a great WWF story involving Chris Muller, and I will share it at a later show date.
Okay.
When my dad played with the Warriors. But, yeah, he was always putting in work. He used to take us to the gym until, like, midnight just to shag walls for him, rebound for him, putting up 1,000 jumpers trying to get right. So shout-out to Chris Bowen. Shout-out to the Warriors. Shout-out to these gentlemen. That was mostly fans.
And we're getting a new and improved mostly fans, so we got some things in the work. Gil has been teasing it for a while, so we're going to get that right for you guys. You're going to appreciate it. It's going to take the show to another level. But I know y'all have things to do. Chad, I know you have things to do. Shout-out to everybody watching at work.
Go Bears.
Before we go.
Bears play tonight. Make sure y'all watch.
Not, not. It's on Prime. It's on Prime. It's on Prime. Patriots gonna win, though. Might have to pick it up. Let me give y'all some Prime. Let me get some Prime accounts, man. On me, man.
Oh, for real? Gilbert Arenas.
Shout out to everybody on this couch. Shout out to our amazingly talented crew for always going the extra mile to bring you this legendary show. This has been another episode of Gil's Arena presented by Polymarket, powered by Playmaker.
Whoa, whoa. We will see y'all tomorrow.
