Hello, listeners, and welcome back to another episode of Law & Order Special Viewing Unit, the show where we view, review, and lovingly ridicule everyone's favorite cop drama, Law & Order Special Victims Unit, every episode in a row from the beginning.

What? Who am I?

I don't know. If I could only commit suicide without committing suicide, you know? Who are you?

Who am I?

What is this?

Who are you?

What is color?

Who am I?

I am your host, Matt Reuter. Joining me, as always, my ever-confused-on-who-he-is co-host... Yeah, that's... That is Merv Griffin over there. How you doing tonight, Merv?

It's always one, Johnny!

That's a fever upset over there.

How are you doing tonight? Oh, no, I had a thing, I had a thing.

Oh, all right. About being Merv Griffin?

Uh-oh, no, no, no, no. Oh. A quote. I know you're old, but you only have to climb two flights.

Yeah, Stone, she's not bringing you home because she thinks you're... How do you not understand? You're using each other! It's fine!

You know? I say do it.

I'm saying do it, too. Go up, whatever. You are literally, you told her up front what's up, and she said back to you basically the same fucking thing.

She's saying what's down.

Exactly. So, I don't understand why you gotta make a moral quandary out of this. It's pretty fucking straightforward, man. Just, you know.

This is the easiest yes that you could have.

It's unreal. But how are you doing tonight, Aviv?

Oh, Matt. How am I doing? I'm doing well.

Did you get the little spring for the refrigerator?

I did. So I had to get the... Listeners. We're going deep into the frigid.

Air appliance conspiracy theory.

The little.

Or planned obsolescence.

The little water spout ice chute thing broke on my dishwasher. On my food cooler. And so I had to replace the entire thing. And I looked on YouTube and found a way to do it. And then, like, miraculously, two days later, you're like, by the way, my VCR broke. And I looked at a YouTube video on how to fix it. And my VCR had broken. And you sent me a video. And that guy, the YouTube channel that you sent me, is just a guy fixing different kinds of. VCRs.

VCRs.

And so I typed in the VCR, the kind that I had, and he fixes it.

Yeah, exactly. It's great.

I haven't fixed the thing yet because I'm fucking busy. But I'm doing relatively well. Couple things. Couple things. I go on my little walk in the mornings, and I pass the pretty good coffee shop, go up the hill to the really good coffee shop. Walking by the really good coffee shop, the one with the best scones in town.

The pretty good coffee shop has new biscuits, honey, rosemary, and salted biscuits. Delicious.

So does it kind of even out then?

It does. It does even out now. But I was up by the really good coffee shop, and I just hear my name. I'm wearing headphones. I hear my name, and I turn around, and my friend Asia is running full speed at me. And I was like, what's that about? And she says, I have something for you in my car. And I was like, what the fuck does that mean?

And she's like, yeah, I'm here with my cousin. This is my cousin. Hi. I've been just driving around with something in my car for you for the last two months. And I was like, I'll run into him. And she did. And... The last, like, maybe three or four times I've seen her have just been randomly around the neighborhood. Does she live in my neighborhood? No, she does not. But she takes me to her car. She opens the door. She hands me a box. Inside. Matt, what am I showing you?

You are showing me the little desktop Law & Order gavel and little gavel stand. What do you call this part of it?

I don't know.

The thing you bang the gavel on. Yeah, and it... And it makes this noise. And that is what I use whenever we're doing judges chambers in the... No, it's what I do. I think on the actual episode, you put it the.

Actual sound effect. No, no. I leave your little sound effect in. I think it's cute.

Oh, okay.

Cool. But this is the second time that this has been gifted to me. The first time, my sister-in-law, my wife's sister, my wife, who you know what her name is, um gave me one like three years ago so i'm just rolling in gavels.

You got so many you can have one for every room in the.

House every room in the house so if there.

Ever needs to be something that needs to be adjudicated yeah the final but quick rubenstein recommends couple of rubenstein recommends oh all right what do you got this feels this feels like old news at this point because it's the movie that everyone's talking about you can see everything You know, I was going to wait to say this, but it's so funny. I was texting with my mom earlier.

Friend of the show, Matt's mom.

And she had said that she went and saw You Can See Everything. And in pretty much right as we started recording, she had responded with what her thoughts are. And this is from my mom. It was crazy, but very good. A bit too long, I thought. So different from a traditional documentary.

All things very true. I'm glad she did not spoil it for you.

I mean, I... Okay. I don't even know what to... Good.

Good. Okay.

Great.

I could tell you and you wouldn't believe me.

No, don't though. I really thought about that because I was like.

And Rubenstein also recommends, we talked about this on the show last week, I went to see The Devils.

Oh, yeah, I saw a lot of reviews on Letterboxd of that.

Oh, boy. Yeah. That, they really do some shit in that movie. I understand why it was banned. Let me tell you, let me start out by saying that.

I mean, I think you told me via text, I'm like, eh, it's not so bad.

They burn a Bible page by page. Meh. There's a sequence that was removed from previous releases that has been restored called The Rape of Christ.

Love this. Go on.

Yeah, it was the day after I saw You Can See Everything, and so it was like.

What a weird back-to-back night at the movies.

Especially because they made me kind of both feel the same way, which is like I'm in a car and no one's driving.

Things are just happening.

Things are just happening. Just fucking go with it. So, yeah. Double recommends. How often is it that you can give two five-star reviews in the same?

I don't know. If you're like the great inflation guy like I am.

Yeah.

Everything is the best all the time.

Everything's in focus. Five stars. Good job.

I just hope everyone had fun making it. Five stars.

Guaranteed for both movies, they did not.

They did not.

100%.

None of them did.

So we have some Salo feedback from the listeners. Salo was that movie that got that guy murdered. Yes. So I started my semester last week. This week. This week. This week. And Monday... I have this intro to film class, and I talk about, you know, I want to hear their favorite movies, talk about my favorite movies. And periodically, not periodically, I sort of started my little spiel by saying, like, periodically I see movies where I'm like, how is that allowed?

And I wasn't thinking about, like, from a content standpoint, but more like the form, right? Like, oh, my God, memento is backwards, that kind of thing. Like, how is that legal to do in movies? And then one girl, who I'd never met before that day, was like, you mean, like, Solo? And I was like, what the fuck did you just say to me? No. And then I had to explain to a class of freshmen what that was.

It's like you've spoken it into being, and now... And I told her, I was like, I haven't... It's like you let it out of the box.

I haven't even thought about that movie in 20 years, and now I have to talk about it twice in one week. Anyway.

I mean, it's an interesting story.

It is. It is a fascinating story.

From a lot of different perspectives of horribleness, but also, I don't know, did that guy kind of get what was coming to him? I don't know.

Yeah, I mean, but Task failed successfully.

Right, right.

Don't beat him up because he's a communist. Beat him up because, like, what the fuck is he doing?

Right, yeah, again, the rug pull of that story is still truly mind-boggling. It really, boy, that's a real, that was something whenever you explained that to me for the first time. That is just absolutely mind-blowing.

There you go. So check our last episode for info. I made sure that that was in the main episode. The main episode that I forgot to post.

Oh, there you go.

I didn't forget to post. I scheduled it, and I think I scheduled it wrong. And so thank you to Rose for asking where the fuck the episode was.

Keeping us honest. Thanks so much, listeners.

How has your week been, man?

Weeks have been pretty good, so I spent the weekend, I was like, you know what, I've got a bunch of just random ass things that I've been putting off, and one of them was like, I'm gonna, because I'm not a traditionally handy person, so I was like, you know what?

Oh yeah, sorry, I spoiled everything.

I don't know really what I'm doing, but I know the only way to see if I can salvage this thing is like, I have no idea what... how the fuck this thing works, but I'm sure I can find a YouTube video on how to do it. And right on, there's a VCR repair.

There's a fucking guy.

And he didn't have my exact model, but he had a third. When you crack it open, they all pretty much look exactly the same.

My guy had my exact model. I mean, this guy had my exact model, which is pretty, pretty, pretty righteous.

Yeah. But yeah, I was able to actually, and truth be told, other than just kind of clean it and kind of just spun everything around a little bit to make sure it was kind of lubricated. Then it started working and I'm like, I didn't really do anything. It just started to work again. So I'm going to count it as a win. I didn't think I did a whole lot other than clean stuff, but hey, it works now.

Yeah, the video that I watched, it was mostly cleaning stuff and also making sure that the gears weren't cracked.

Oh, see, yeah. It was fascinating to see how a VCR actually works, because it's not at all how I thought it would.

Mystery machine.

From seeing it actually work in action to diagnose the problem. So that was a weird and interesting thing. Also, I don't remember, did we, had I seen Backrooms yet, whenever.

We recorded this? No, we have not talked about, we talked about Primetime and not Backrooms.

Yes. Okay, so Cassie and I got around to watching Back Rooms. Pretty good.

Yeah. I think it kind of falls apart at the end for me, but, you know, that's just me. Yeah.

I mean, spoiler alert for Back Rooms. What are the parts that I found, like, kind of the creepiest part? I thought it was fantastic. It was whatever Chiwetel was just like, I had the best part. can eat them. Yeah.

Right.

And then it just, and I was like, this movie is so fucking weird. And that is so creepy.

So I heard through the grapevine that originally the movie was that followed her. We're not a Reincevist character. And they sort of did extensive reshoots and pickups to like make it about Clark, which is interesting. I liked her character. I thought that was particularly fascinating. Huh. To me, at the end, to me, it was just like, what do we know? Nothing? Okay, let's just make sure we don't do it again.

Yeah, kind of.

Yeah, but, you know, pretty good. Glad it exists, for sure.

Yeah, it definitely was creepy. Worth the watch. Yeah, so we're coming up on... so next, no, next week will be the last episode we record before Halloween.

Next week will be the last episode we record before Halloween. Yes.

And it will come out the, after Halloween.

So come out after Halloween. This is, this is the last episode that people will hear before Halloween.

Yes. So, uh, are you going as anything for Halloween? You and Leanne?

I don't know. So we're not doing a couple's costume. Um, My birthdays are on Halloween, so our only real Halloween plans are, you know, we have, like, come hang out at the bar, whatever, birthday style. And then on Halloween itself, we are grabbing some bagels and going to the park. And all of our friends who have kids can just come to that.

Just come hang out.

And come hang out. And, like, your kids can be.

Kind of like what you did after.

After the wedding. Yeah, exactly. So I might be a giant carrot. I have a big carrot costume. But other than that, I don't have anything going. I might also just go to school as the carrot as well.

I think that would be. I would love to see you in that costume. If you do get that costume, please be sure to take a picture and send it to me. So Cassie and I are going to go as Patricia and.

tom tom oh right uh from from widow's.

From from widow's bay are you mad at me yeah so she's going uh as the the bike shorts uh pig shirt uggs with the nice the shotgun.

Yeah the running around from that.

Yeah uh and then i am just literally i have a a pair of khakis, a button-down that looks very similar to button-downs worn in the show.

And you're not going to sleep for four days?

Yeah, but what I'm going to do is I'm going to get one of our board games, like smaller ones, and I'm going to print out the teeth thing and actually put it from the episode where he goes to the inn.

Oh, right.

And it's got the fucking pliers in it. That's just the game.

That's pretty good.

I thought that was the funniest.

Yeah.

Joke in Windows Pay, so I was like, alright, so that'll be, because it's me, because I'm dressed like the, this is how I, this is the Windows Pay connection.

Everyone, don't you understand?

I don't know, we're gonna see if I'm recognized on that one, because you didn't get it, and I'm here explaining.

It to you. The teeth in the board game, you know, I don't think I watched that one that clearly.

Oh, okay, fair enough.

That episode.

Alright, well, so I guess we'll wait and see how many people have to explain this to I think asses will be pretty apparent.

Mine? Yeah, yeah. And especially as a couple's costume.

Yeah, I think that will hopefully help.

There's also that thing of like, I hate gay Halloween. What do you mean you're Patricia's antlers?

No, we thought about that. It's like, it's kind of hard to find antlers.

Not in the Pacific Northwest.

I mean, where am I going to go? What taxidermy place am I going to go to? Do you just sell antlers?

I think I might have some antlers in my storage unit.

You realize that makes you the weird one, right?

What do you mean? They're plastic.

Oh, like for... No, I'm not talking like Rudolph antlers.

Well, beggars can't be choosers, man.

Well, that would be a little weird, but okay. Anyway, so what are we doing? Tonight we're viewing and reviewing season 20.

What's going on here? No transition work whatsoever.

We're actually not just talking on the phone. Yeah, uh, season 20, episode 6 of SVU entitled Exile, but before we do that, a quick trip to the mailbag.

Oh boy.

I didn't ask you about Blue Ski or IG.

Yeah, we got some stuff.

Alright, uh, the first email is from listener Ezra. Let's fucking do it. First one is entitled Comments, and Ezra writes, Line of Fire is actually super fun, but I don't think you would enjoy it.

I don't have that one. Oh, no, you don't.

Well, that's what it was.

Line of Fire is enjoyable. That's the comment.

Yes, it's actually super fun.

The one that I was referring to, the really good Ezra email is.

Oh, I was going to leave this one for you, so I'm going to read that one so you can get the next one, V.

So, yeah, so... Ezra asks us a question, and the question is, as a drag name, is anti-Semitic funny, or am I terrible for laughing at it? Nope, it's funny. And Ezra follows up that they came up with it, and they're proud of themselves. You should be. That's fucking great.

Yeah, it's bold. I'll give you that.

It is bold. And that's all the Gamale that's fit to Gamale is.

Yes, it is. That is all the Cabela's fits good mail. So, Aviv, we're going to go over to you for the IG and the blue ski.

In a segment we like to call, I just blew myself.

I'm afraid I just blew myself. There's got to be a better way to say that.

From the corrections department, we said that Ezra and Rose went to the Dun Dun Diner together last year. They did not. Rose went by herself. Ezra didn't. did not go, but wishes that they could have gone.

I would have put money on that.

Yeah, you know, listen.

Well, apologies.

Can't all be, can't all be right about stuff? Nope.

Well, apologies.

From the instant gram from pay a lot, pay a, pay all of adventures, pay all of adventures, sends us a, a trivia question. I guess she's like at some sort of trivia night and filmed a trivia question and sent it to us. And the question is where everyone majors in murder is a 2010 article about Hudson University, a school from three separate yet equally important shows in what franchise?

It's a criminal intent, too.

It must be.

Yeah, right?

Yeah, but the Law & Order franchise, I believe, is the answer to that.

It hasn't been Hudson for a while. It's been something else.

Yeah. Is it Hudson in this episode, or is it some better school? No, Sage.

Sage which which i don't say they were really having a hard time thinking it's like where's where should she go so it's just in the grocery store like i don't.

Say sage time um so a couple couple of bits of feedback from miss rose marie nyc aka judge es rose aka aka aka a segment we like to call judges chambers.

In stereo, listeners. In stereo now.

One's to the left and one's to the right. Rose says that she was a banquet waitress at the White Marsh Country Club and she didn't want everyone to clear off the tray because she wanted to eat the last of whatever was on her tray. But she would never actively cut someone off like the Meatball Man did to me.

It was unprofessional.

It was unprofessional. She follows up by saying, and here's the judgment. Is it bad that I was hoping you'd explain Pasolini's batshit death to Matt? Self-judgment. There you go. Canadian correspondent Sonia Missio took note that I mentioned the fake band from my movie is called Girl Piss. Yes. And she sent us a exclamation newspaper article. This cannot be called exclamation, but it, it, it says free across Canada and it's like newspaper. And the, the photo on the newspaper is of a band called piss. And the headline story is piss cannot be ignored, which is pretty good. Um, but yeah, so I took a listen to piss and they sound kind of like girl piss. So piss is, You're getting sued. You'll be hearing from my lawyer.

I was about to say, like, uh-oh. Here we go. The legal battle begins.

The legal battle begins. I played with a band in Boston. I did a show with a band called Suffragette. This was in 2008-ish. And we were chatting with Suffragette. And I told them how much I liked their name. And they said, yeah, we did. You just used to be Jet. but some other band took that first. And I was like, yep, they sure did.

Whoops.

Whoopsie doodle. And that's all the mailbags fits a mailbag. Someone, someone randomly asked if, if we could share Brian, he men has his self tape video to which I said, no. Uh, yes. And we want to also congratulate our, uh, best frenemies in, uh, These are their stories podcast for celebrating their 250th episode.

Oh, congrats. That's awesome, guys.

Amateur numbers, guys. Amateur numbers.

Remember, listeners, it's always quantity over quality. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. And for that reason.

For that reason, we are doing our 440th episode of this show.

Not including bonuses. I think we are up to 600 plus if you count that. Yeah. Yeah.

That's all the mailbags fit to mailbag. As always, you can get at us. We're at SVU Podcast on Blue Sky and Instagram, the official Blue Sky and Instagram of the These Are Their Stories podcast.

Yes, congratulations, guys. Take that to the bank, the bloodbanks editor. And for longer or weirder things or tweet-sized emails, send us an email, specialviewingunitspidermonkeygmail.com. And now, on to the main event, where we're going to be viewing and reviewing Season 20, Episode 6 of SVU, entitled Exile, right after this. And we're back. And as we said before the break, we're going to be viewing and reviewing Season 20, Episode 6 of SVU, entitled Exile. Just a reminder to our listeners, all the episodes are available to watch on Hulu and Peacock.

Recommend that you watch the episode, except don't watch this one. This one kind of sucks.

What do you mean?

Or it could have been so much better.

It could have been so much better, but I had some fun with this one. I mean, it's... This poor girl. Right.

Well, also, we'll get into it. Hulu Peacock, it'll make more sense, or it might. It might, actually, if you watch it. I don't know. I would recommend it, but we're going to find out. But before we get into breaking down the episode in the grandest tradition that we have on this podcast, although in every evolving one, Aviv, you are going to hit us with a two-minute recap.

If you're not evolving, you're not growing. You're not what? Yeah, no, I said it right.

Yeah, there you go. Right on. So, the fairly newly minted two-minute recap, I guess we're about to hear from our listeners. If you want to see Aviv do the two-minute recap.

Do the two!

Do the two. Oh, that's a terrible thing. You could go to our Instagram to watch the, is it a reel or whatever.

That you are putting up there? That I don't know.

It's a video of Aviv doing the recap.

We didn't do the two this week. We didn't do the two.

Oh, people that got that.

I think about that pretty often.

So do I. It's weird. I don't know why. All right, so if you want to do the two, go to the Instagram. So, Aviv, we are going to put two minutes on the clock. Why don't you tell us what the fuck happened in this week's episode of SVU?

All I got to do is hit 204. The time to be is 205. This episode, I'm wearing my Cozy Corner shirt, Cozy Corner Restaurant Inc. Barbecue from... the Cozy Corner Restaurant, Inc. Barbecue in Memphis, Tennessee. It was delicious.

I'm sure it was.

It was so good. Okay, you guys. Timu Ana de Armas just Donald Ducking it down the street, sprucing herself up in the bathroom of a bar, and then meeting an absolute bro douchebag who's talking about giving women a pegasm or women having pegasms. Anyway... Meanwhile, fucking Stone is three sheets to the wind and meets a... That girl is young. Dot, dot, dot. She invites him up to her apartment. He's like, no, I'm just using you for sex because I miss my sister. And she's like, what? Gross, but okay, sure. Cut to this Timuana de Armas girl is dead. Her name's Grace Walker, but she's not dead.

She's alive, but she seems dead. And... Her blood alcohol level is 0.15. And so she is like, this is so unlike me. My brain is pudding. You know, I think this guy, this guy fucked me. And my boyfriend will be so mad. Can you take me home? Carisi takes her home. And, you know, it ain't her home. Her name's not Grace. She doesn't fucking live there. She's fucking gone. she says her boyfriend's a thoracic surgeon. Turns out she's unhoused. Her boyfriend, boyfriend is unhoused veteran. And, uh, and so they're like kind of trying to arrest this like finance douche. And he says, Harvey can go to hell.

Me too. This time's up that. And, uh, and the, the, the phone number that, that grace gave to the cops is for the theta pi Kappa house. So they go to the theta pi Kappa house with a picture of grace and like, Oh no, that's Sophie. Sophie went missing and they have like a video of, so like, like dead wife video of Sophie before she goes, miss, turn that off, turn it off. I'm going to fall out of love with you if you don't turn that off.

So they, they, they discover that her name is Sophie Simmons. They pick her up again. They're like, you're Sophie Simmons. She's like, who's that? And Tommy GI Joe just like clocks her in the face. And so they, they pick her up and she's like, I don't know who Sophie is, but it's definitely not me. And then they like bring her parents in and she's like, mom, dad, I'm Sophie.

What happened to the last three years of my life? And I guess she had some sort of dissociative fugue state, which they say is dissociative fugue disorder, hue disorder, something like that. And it usually happens with child abuse and sexual assault. So they take her back to the college where she was pre-med and Olivia, like, like fucking dog walks her down the, Down the hallway to the room of the professor that raped her. And they're like... She's like, he raped me right here. And the pen dripped on the couch. And some woman's like, what the fuck are you doing in my office? The guy that raped you is dead. And she's like, well, fuck. You said that I was going to be able to, I guess, stab this guy myself. And I can't. And so, like, now

I'm going to be Grace again and not Sophie. And... And Olivia's like, but what if you could just talk to his grave? And she's like, yeah, it's probably fine. Dick Wolf.

Dick Wolf. It's... Let's see.

It was... I glanced. I glanced at my time.

It was so, so very close. They could... It's... It's like.

This is the equivalent of... You're talking to someone. It's usually like an older person. at a party. And then like halfway through the story you're telling or the conversation, they just like slap their thigh. They're like, yep. And then they just get up and walk away without a word. That's what happens in this episode. Like it's, it's pretty interesting.

It's like, it's like a classic SVU episode in that there's like some disease that no one's ever heard of that this girl has. And that's why she, like, can't remember. And then they're like, well, I better be going.

It's just, it's so... All of it, it's such a strange twist. It's got, like, a good room fucking up sequence there.

Oh, yeah.

That's right. Throw that glass.

What are they making these glass coffee tables out of?

It's just, like, Liv takes this girl on like she is now her ward.

Which is, like.

Because she reveals that she wasn't... I mean, we could make an argument, like, that is just.

Because it's transactional. She was raped three years ago, and also, like, Tommy's raping her for, like, a war meal or something. Right.

Because, again, the whole crux of this is that they think that she was raped by the tech bro, but then she confesses later.

In fact, she did sex work. Which is, like, not awesome, but.

No, but I'm saying, if you want to make the argument, it's like, well, she's to survive, it's not... She's not really consenting.

It's the gray area. If you want to make that argument. I would have liked for there to be a scene where Carisi and Rollins are like, so it seems like she had consensual sex and she's just kind of weird. We don't need to deal with this anymore. And Olivia going... Yeah, but I like the crazy bitch. I gotta see where this goes.

This is weird, right, guys? Like, even for us, this is pretty weird.

It's pretty weird.

Let's jump in the mystery machine and see where this mystery fucking takes us.

And everyone's like, no, and she still goes. Yeah, it's... So we open on a rainy night where I thought Ana de Armas, but there is, like, an Ana de Armas movie where she, like... comes in from the rain and like Keanu Reeves is there. Knock, knock. It's called knock.

Oh, um, I, I was going to go with Amelia Clark and Chloe Grace Moretz have a baby.

Oh, I, I was going to say, so when she dries off different situation, but, uh, Amelia Clark and Sabrina Carpenter.

Yep.

So we're singing the same tune here.

We're right in the same area.

Yeah. And so she goes into the bar. She like spruces herself up in the mirror.

Well, she's walking. She's no pants. She has no pants on. And she's using a leather jacket to like protect herself from the rain. And like, just like a, yeah. And I was like this.

White, white button down shirt. So it's like, you know, oh, you're not wearing pants. And it's like, yeah, I.

Thought that, I mean, like silk or something.

Spoilers. This girl's a babe.

Well, again, I was like, okay, so she's walking around, and I was like, it can't be that she doesn't have pants. She's gotta have, like, you know, it's supposed to be something happened, and she's got, like, bike shorts.

Nope.

It just walks into this fancy bar, and no one says anything.

No, because she's hot.

Someone would say something.

Sure. Grace is played by Amy Spring Fortier, and she doesn't really act all that much anymore. She was on a couple of other shows, including FBI, something called Highway One. But she is also a post-producer. She does other kind of work, but she doesn't have a photo on IMDb. She's not a super active actor, which is interesting, because I think she's pretty good in most of this. There's some parts where it's not quite. I mean.

there's a lot going on with the character as it turns out. So, uh, you know, it's, uh, it's, I mean, for, for what, for as crazy as the storyline is, you.

Know, it's, there's a lot going on.

Yeah.

She, she was also in fab five, the Texas cheerleader scandal, uh, which is like a made-for-TV true crime movie. The new cheerleading coach at a high school is asked to resign by administrators after she tries to rein in five cheerleaders engaging in scandalous behavior.

Okay, sure.

Why not?

Yeah, I mean, she's fine.

She's fine. She puts on like a deep red lip, which looks good on her, and then goes to talk to the... She definitely identifies this guy as a mark because he's talking about a pegasm. This dude, Silas, is talking to his friend, Drew, about how women can get pegasms. You mean piss shivers, dude? Like everyone, whatever, man. And weirdly, not Silas, Drew kind of looks like Penn Badgley from Gossip Girl.

Yeah, a little bit.

And you gotta go with the classic Gossip Girl meme, go piss girl. And they're talking about piss. It fits. But Carisi is at a different bar with Stone, and it's not going great.

Well, I mean, they're both... I certainly hope Carisi isn't loaded because he seems kind of tipsy he's like all right i want to go drive my truck home and stone's like capital ideals.

My fucking my fucking bitch sister is nagging me i wish someone would shoot her in a warehouse shoot oh no oh stone i'm sorry.

That's that's my bad you want to go get a burger instead it sounds like no thank you i'm gonna have another one of these scotches so i might Dick won't be able to get up later, and I'm gonna go try to have, frustratingly try to have sex with this young woman and feel really bad about it. And Carisi's like, alright, anyway, I got a truck, by the way, just establishing that for later fun antics that I'm sure I'll get into with this fucking truck. Everyone needs a guy with a truck, but nobody wants to own the truck.

You just want to know the guy with the truck, and I'm getting fucked here.

But Carisi is worried that Stone is like an alcoholic. He's like, maybe you shouldn't have all these fucking drinks and then he pays stone's tab which you shouldn't do if you're worried about your friend you shouldn't be like you know what this one's on me.

Well he did also just say he wished his sister would get murdered in a warehouse in front of him and it feels really bad about it so he's trying to buy his way out of this one he's like you know what you'll still be a drunk tomorrow.

Stone live to fight another day.

We got a regroup over here at the carisi front and then i'm coming back.

Tomorrow So Stone goes almost all the way home with this young woman.

Wait, you don't think he goes up there?

No, he says he can't do it.

Right. And then she says, yeah, but I'm just using you for sex. Come on. And then has the doorbell. And I think he's got that look on his face like, I mean.

I'm going to regret it, but I'm going to do it. I didn't pick up. So he says, I can't do this. I'm just using you for sex. And she's like, yeah, what do you think this is, idiot? I know you're old, but you're not that old. So fuck you. I've got issues with my father. Yeah.

So, I don't know. I think Stone does it. Because I think Stone hates himself every moment of this episode.

Good for you. Good for you, Stone.

And I applaud it. I'm like, you know what, man? You both know what this is, so it's fine.

So, okay. Here's... I got an issue. I can probably look this up. So we cut to... You disagree?

You don't think Stone should have gone out?

No, no, no. That I do agree with. So we cut to Grace. Looks like she's had her head bashed in to death, but it's not. It's just she's kind of fucked up. The ambulance is there taking her. And Olivia's late to arrive.

Oh, okay. I have a note about this as well. I wanted to talk to you.

They're like, where were you? And she says, oh, I was with my trainer.

When I got the call and I came straight over. So she's got, like, a workout top on and, like, a sweatshirt.

Yeah.

And, you know, Kreese is in his normal suit getup. And I'm just like, this is two episodes in a row that it's like, Liv is out. I'm like, why?

Why? But also, like, this feels like it should have been before a credo because this is, like, the planting of the trainer and then a credo is the payoff where we get to see the trainer and so i'm trying to see if they like switch these because also rollins is like seems to be like slightly less pregnant.

She's not in it nearly as much and they shoot her only from the chest up yeah you never get a full body shot of rollins or she's always or she's at the table and kind of tucked in so it's kind of hard to tell.

It is hard to tell. Weirdly, this has nothing to do with anything. The writer of next week's episode has the same name as someone we went to high school with. Who? That's all. Jordan Barsky.

Oh, I remember that name.

I don't remember why, though. Yeah, his sister was in our grade, Jessie Barsky.

Oh, that's what it is, I think.

She was a track kid. I can't... Oh, here's our... product code.

Oh, yeah.

Okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Nope. It is not. It was not. They weren't produced in reverse and switched. This is just dumb. Just dumb and bad. Here we go. Speaking of dumb and bad, they, like, find the assault weapon, which seems to have been some sort of, like, pipe or bar.

They keep calling it a rod. I'm like, it's not a rod. It's a pipe. A rod is not hot.

And it's in a bag. It's covered in shit. It's covered in something. And Olivia's like, seems like blood. Thank you, Olivia.

She's a detective. She's the head of the detectives.

It seems like blood. But she doesn't have, they called SVU because they, quote, took her panties, which we find out that's not actually what happened, but they took her panties but left her Prada. That's a wisecrack. I'll take it.

Yeah, I know. We were talking about how, you know, the good old days of having a wisecrack.

This feels like a good old days episode until the very end to me.

Kind of. Also, the weapon, like the pipe, it looks like it's straight out of Clue.

Yeah.

Like it's that, you know, it really is that.

The big clear bag.

Yeah, exactly. I thought that was interesting. So it's like, okay, took her panties. they go to the hospital and they're talking to the doctor doing a walk and talk here. And it's basically, okay. Um, you know, I did a rape kit evidence of semen and, you know, she, she had, uh, a lot of THC and alcohol in her system. So good consent couldn't have been an issue here.

Because her, um, her blood alcohol level was 0.15, which is nearly double the legal limit.

Yeah.

She had THC and they're like, oh man, THC, who knows what she got up to? I'm like, okay.

Probably chilling out somewhere with a bag of chips.

Bag of potato chips, yeah.

Yeah, or something like that. Well, also this led me, because there is, speaking of THC, there's a lot of, at least at the beginning, a lot of weed going on here. And I was like, when did they legalize weed? I thought it wasn't until post-pandemic.

So it seems like because it was not smoked but sucked.

Everything was edible.

Edibles. That's what that means. So medical cannabis in New York was legalized in 2014. And then state law. It's still, yeah, the state law is it's still legal. And then there was a legalization study in 2018. And then Andrew Cuomo, Governor Andrew Cuomo, expanded the decriminalized use and recreational use of cannabis, but did not legalize it. And fines dropped as low as $ 50. So 2019, but this episode is 2018.

So I don't fucking know, man.

Yeah, so I was like, wait, because everyone's just like, yeah, we're all just dealing drugs, and I guess the cops are like, okay. Which, that's what I was like, that stood out to me. Like, I don't know. I've been to New York since, and it's just like, oh, you can't.

It's every fucking corner. Same with the light. Um, So they ask Grace how she feels, and she says, feels like someone, like a herd of elephants did the Texas two-step on my head. And I'm like, this girl ain't right. There's something wrong with this girl.

It's too folksy. What are you talking about?

Aw, shucks. And she says she was talking to a guy named either Doug or Dave, and this is so unlike her to go out to a bar and drink too much. And Olivia's like, yeah, we think you were raped.

You were raped, um. So sorry to have to tell you. Anyway, seems like you might need some time to process this, so I'm going to leave you here with Carisi, this fucking moron, and you take it easy.

And so they try to find who she was talking to at the bar. So Finn goes to the bartender, and the bartender's like, I mean, she was hot, and she was... talking to some fucking douche and she's tried to get a free shot for me because she's hot and so i remember her and and finn's like did you give her the shot and he's like well yeah absolutely but he knows he knows who she's like yeah and.

Then i and then i bought she's like then she caught like a bigger fish like the two other guys so she's not.

Fucking around with me yeah And the person that she was talking to was his weed dealer.

And Finn's like, what the fuck?

He's like, yeah. Do you not know that I'm a cop?

He's like, you heard me tell you that I was a cop. He's like, yeah, my dealer. Go fuck yourself, copper. It's weed, I guess. It's legal, right?

Is it?

Right? Right, guys?

No? So they go to like a weed food truck.

Hold on. Oh, boy. Did I? Did my buddy lie to me? Oh, God. Oh, oh, oh. And I just showed you all the weed that I had.

Oh, no.

Oh, this is so bad for me.

Oh, no. They go to the weed food truck and fucking... And that guy's like, oh, no.

Oh.

Penn Badgley's like, what do you want? I got it. You want it. It's drugs. I got it. You want it. And then Finn flashes his badge and he's like, what I meant to say was....

Go fuck yourself, copper. Why don't you do something about it? Like, are they in Jersey? Is that what this is?

No, because they're on 52nd between 1st and 2nd Avenue. They're above the park. But the... Not above the park. Above Times Square. But Penn Badgley, Drew, immediately gives up his buddy Silas. He's like, oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. I was talking to this girl. I was trying to give her the piss shivers, and she was more interested in Silas And went home with Silas. And Finn's like, so usually when you rat out your friend really easily, you're the one who's guilty. And he's like, dude, whatever that fucking means. Here's my Uber receipt for last night at that time. And it was $ 11. $ 11 for an Uber in New York? Can you imagine? I'm Donnie. I....

My God, for anywhere, $ 10 anywhere.

In an Uber. I mean, that might mean that he just called an Uber and then had them drive him a block. He's like, see, $ 11. But we get to see fucking Carisi's truck and Carisi drives Grace back to her apartment. really, really nice apartment building. She says that she does medical research and her boyfriend, Tom, is a thoracic surgeon. And she's, like, really worried that Tom is going to judge her because of what happened to her. And, like, you know, she kind of indicates that she might be being abused by her controlling thoracic surgeon boyfriend.

Yeah, so Carisi's like, here's my card. And she asks Carisi to also pull up, like, an extra half block because the door... Yeah, because the doorman is very nosy. She doesn't want him to see her getting out of the car or whatever.

Rosie the nosy neighbor.

Yeah, so Carisi is like, oh, this poor girl. Yeah, you go and if you need anything, you need the support of your loved ones.

Carisi is about to get fucking worked. But they find Silas.

Yeah, Carisi's like, can I give you money? Do you need a bank account, perhaps, to escape your thoracic surgeon husband?

Have you met my friend Nick Amaro?

I was about to say, I could set you up really good with a guy in L.A.

His name's Nick Amaro. So they find Silas at his, like, just douche job, I guess. Douche job. And Silas is like, rape? I paid her. You're crazy.

He doesn't say that he paid her. He said that she was trying to rob him, which is funny because as it turns out, that's what was happening.

That is true. We learned from Grace later that they had agreed on a price. Yeah.

And then she tried to rob him for more. And he was like, she was trying to rob me. And then she tried to hit me with the pipe to rob me. So I hit her back with the pipe because she was robbing me.

He said that she came.

At him like, I don't understand.

What's wrong?

What don't you understand?

What did I do?

I know it sounds crazy. He didn't start the conversation with, I know this is going to sound fucking nuts.

Believe me, I understand. He says she came at me like Wonder Woman on bath salts. And she didn't have two nickels to rub together. And they're like, well, why'd you keep her underwear? And he's like, like any good slut, she wasn't wearing any.

What don't you understand about this?

I wouldn't lead with that, but sure.

Well, also, it's like, wait a second. So as she's been wandering around these bars, she didn't have any panties on. She literally is just walking around in a shirt with that jacket.

A sheer shirt. Yes. A shirt, like a white... Well, no, I don't have a.

I mean, again, it looked almost like.

Silk to me. A white button-down shirt, but like... And it's long, but it's not that long.

And again, no one... No one is saying anything. No one... There's nary a reaction.

Nothing.

This is why I'm like... I don't think you'd be able to... She's there like playing darts with these assholes. for a fucking clip.

Yeah, you can hear the draft. So they arrest Silas and he says, Harvey can go to hell. And they're like, who's Harvey? And he's like, my good personal friend, Harvey Weinstein. Me too this, time's up that. Can't even talk to abroad these days. Can't even talk to abroad about pissgasms.

And I'm just like, oh. No, I mean, that's, oh. That's, uh, how quaint that is now, though.

You know? Well, because, like, things have gotten so much worse. Things have gotten so much worse. So, they said that they can't get in contact with Grace. The cops said they can't get in contact with Grace to, like, ID the guy. because the phone number that she gave is for the Theta Phi Kappa house at Sage College, and Carisi, sweet summer child, is like, oh, she just must have written it down wrong.

Or I think he says, I must have written it down wrong. He's immediately taking ownership of the mistake. He's like, no, no, no, she couldn't have done anything. It was me.

This beautiful angel who walks on God's green earth couldn't have made a mistake. I did it. It was all me. Yeah. I wish someone killed my sister.

Oh, well, Stone's not here. It's fine. I can say it now.

It's fine. Just don't tell.

Him that I said that because I said that last night. Then I got to buy him another drink and it's going to be a whole thing.

So they interrogate Silas and Silas is like, listen, I was stupid, but stupid is not against the law. And I think this might be Amanda's kind of only line in the episode. She's like, but horny might be.

Like, Okay, it's... Okay, you know what? You know what, Rollins? You're riding the desk in these episodes. That's what you got.

Go for it. Sure. So they go... Carisi goes to her apartment building to go pick her up because she's got to go identify the fucking guy or whatever. And the doorman's like, I don't know this person. And he's like, oh, yeah, she lives with Tom. I don't have a Tom in here. He's a thoracic surgeon. I don't have a thoracic surgeon here.

He's like, I've got like a pediatrician. I've got two allergists and like another guy. And none of them are even in the ballpark of that name. Sorry. And he's like, let me see your security tape. And so it just shows whatever Carisi dropped off. She literally just like walked 20 feet into the lobby, looked around, turned right back around and walked out.

Oh, no, I've been lied to. Yeah.

So he's like, huh, what's going on with this girl? So they go with the idea that all of the lies that she said perhaps had some truth in them or something because they're looking around.

No notes.

Is this the pancake thing? Yes, this is the pancake thing.

Yes, in a second, they're like, okay, we're looking for this girl. Silas, you work for us now. What did she say? And he's like, I wasn't listening to her.

What don't you understand about this? I paid her for sex. What the fuck? What are you all talking? How do you not understand this?

Do I need to spell it out in cocaine for you?

I have a wife. I wanted to fuck this lady. Did you think I cared what the fuck she was talking about?

He said that she was talking nonsense, which is fun when I think that she looks like Sabrina Carpenter. But that she was like a little bit sheltered or something because she didn't even know that Kanye was married to Kim K. He says Kim K. All right. Shut up. I hate this guy.

I hate everything about this and how he loved the new Kanye album. Oh, yeah.

But... Olivia's like, if you want to get out of here and see your wife again, you got to give me something. Which is not great. But he says, ah, pancakes. She was talking about a diner. A diner up on this place. And she likes to eat the pancakes at the diner. Maybe she's there. Goodbye.

Also, do you have anything to charge me with? Can I go now, please?

So they go. They go up to where the diner is. This is a weird one, right? They go up to where the diner is, and it's not a diner. It is just like a halfway house. And someone's like, who lies about pancakes? But the halfway house is called the Walker House. But this has a pancake connection. Go on. Which is... the Walker brothers pancake house is a famous pancake place in the suburbs of Chicago.

So it's in mean girls.

It's in mean girls. So it's weird that like, there's no way that they're like, Oh, the Walker house. And then like they go to pancakes. And this isn't a reference to either mean girls or the actual Walker brothers pancake house, which I have been to delicious, weird, weird, right? Yeah. So they tour this, and they also, they're like, oh, Grace's last name is Walker. Like, maybe she has some sort, like, she said she was in medical research. Like, maybe she has something to do with this place. And so they tour the Walker house, the halfway house. I'm begging you guys to just get it. But the guy who runs the place is like, some tech billionaire grew a conscience and started this place. uh this this place i'm like

that's how you know this is a fiction um.

Yeah and it's like oh and the billionaire had two kids like grace and some other kid and they're like oh grace so this is grace walker then and he's like that's that grace yes walker no.

No that's that girl that girl is what we call a rough sleeper yeah.

And they're like wait she's homeless what what what what what And he's like, yeah, she comes here and uses the shower and tries.

To get some food, get some lunch.

But he's like, yeah, she's one of the very well-hygienic or good hygiene ones. And I'm like, this is all very.

She keeps a tidy house. So the guy who runs the place, his name is Chet, and he is played by Melvin Abston. And Melvin Abston is like, Okay, so she hangs out with kind of this guy over here. His name's Tom, Tommy. And they're like, oh, my God, the boyfriend, Tommy. And he's wearing like a fatigue shirt. Right.

And all of them immediately are like, thank you for your service. This man is a veteran. Yeah.

I mean, maybe.

Maybe.

I think, don't they say, doesn't the one guy say, he says, oh, G.I. Joe over there?

He says G.I. Joe, yeah.

Which doesn't necessarily mean... Yeah, just because he's wearing a camo shirt. It wasn't an actual, like, army-issued thing. I wish we should have said that, not a.

But they identify themselves to Tommy. Tommy runs. And, of course, when they run, you know that they're guilty. What old.

This old narc.

By the door. Also, like... Do you... Oh, yeah. He almost gets away and some old guy trips him with his cane, but like.

And then shoves him!

Do you think that maybe he just ran away because you guys are cops in a homeless shelter?

Ever think about that?

Ever think about that? And so they're like, where's Grace? And he says, Grace who? And they show her... Show him the picture of Grace. And he says, she's a cuckoo bird. And she uses weird words. He says, people like us. we're peripatetic peripatetic.

And to which i believe carisi responds but that's a two dollar.

Word yeah so i looked up what peripatetic means it means someone who travels from place to place.

I suppose that's an accurate word for to describe their situation.

Like walking on the parapet i don't know so he says that he likes to help her he they eat lunch sometimes but it's like not really uh.

It's very childish where he's like, she's not my girlfriend.

Yeah, right? Meanwhile, Olivia and Rollins, Rollins is like, we exploit our vets and then we don't do anything to help them. And Olivia's like, he just has that jacket. I want you to know this.

He's not wearing dog tags. He hasn't even said that he was in the army. No one has actually said that he was in the army.

When Johnny comes marching home again, hurrah, hurrah.

Again, it wasn't an army issue thing. It was literally a camo print, which, by the way, fashion-wise.

Was kind of popular. When Johnny comes marching home again, hurrah, hurrah.

Just because he's homeless doesn't mean he's a veteran. It's bad that you make that association immediately because so many veterans are unhoused. So, like, Shouldn't we all stop and focus on that point for a hot second? No, that's fine.

No, instead I'm focusing on the framed portrait of Ruth Bader Ginsburg on Olivia's desk.

Dude, I have that note. I was like, when the fuck did that get there? When did Liv's desk turn into the desk of Leslie Knope?

She had like a resist mug in a couple episodes ago that I noticed but didn't mention on the show. I'm like, guys. When did RBG die? RBG died during COVID. It was like 2020.

Oh, so she was still alive. If that was like a subtle outcome. she died but no she's.

Just nope live so they live.

You actively have like five bodies on you all right let's let's calm the fuck down here all right.

So they're like, okay, so maybe just like with the Walker house, there's like a little bit of truth in her lie, a little bit of chocolate in her peanut butter. And so maybe we go to this sorority house. They said that they've never heard of Grace Walker, but her name's not Grace Walker. Let's just go to the house, show them her picture, and see if they know her.

And then the first person's like, oh, yeah, it's Sophie. Sophie Simmons.

My old roommate.

She went missing. She went missing? You didn't call us? Eh, we just thought she was with a guy. How long ago did she go missing? Three years. We thought she was getting that good dick. We were like, yeah, you know.

And literally, as someone that was Greek in college, I can guarantee you, if she was a part of it, they will track her down for those dues. Oh, yeah. Until the end of the earth. They will make sure that you pay them.

The roommate's like, she wasn't in good standing, so we... exiled her.

How funny would that be? Yeah, she stopped paying her dues, so we had to kick her out onto the streets, and no one fucking helped her. I'm like, that actually sounds about right, come.

To think of it. Okay, I get it.

There's a more interesting episode here.

They said that she was kind of like a bookworm. She never really went out. And here, here's this video, and it's like, it is like dead wife video, where she's studying... And the girl behind the camera is like, let's go out and party tonight. She's like, not for this future, doctor. Oh, Tony's going to be there. Let me get ready. Ah, fine.

You better not be lying to me.

And Olivia's like, I can't believe it's the same girl. You can't? She looks exactly the same.

I was like, the exactly the same. And it's like, okay, we found out that she was on the house. And it's like, she wasn't even like, like she was. She looked like... She wasn't like.

Look at those teeth.

She wasn't, like, dirty or anything. They literally highlight the fact that she, like, was very sanitary. So it's like, what do you mean you can't believe it's the same person?

I can't understand this. Because she had a bump on her head. She doesn't look like the same person. The person in this video was wearing underwear.

Oh, it's like the people that watch House Hunters and can't see past paint color.

It's true. So... Rollins is like, there's this website all of a sudden called Street Life NYC. I uploaded her picture with the hashtag Find Grace. I wonder where she got the name Grace. And Stone comes off the top rope and is like, maybe that's where she fell from.

This episode is such, like.

Everyone thinks that they're slam dunking all of the, like, quippy lines.

Well, I'm not even talking about the quippy from the socially conscious side of it. Ooh, here we go. Because when we were in the Walker house, the guy that runs it did the dump of, hey, this is the PSA dump, where it's like, ah, yes, women that are unhoused experience, or 90% of them experience sexual assault in some way, and it's more dangerous for those that live out on the street rather than utilize shelters.

All very true.

A big info dump about unhoused people in America and how many there's like 70,000 in New York City.

And a friend of mine works at a non-profit that helps women who are suffering from like financial abuse right because like for like for all intents and purposes the Grace is like sleeping with Tommy so that she has a place to stay sometimes which is basically and he beats her up which is like basically financial abuse she can't leave because she would be homeless again.

Well, she already is. It's like she'd be even worse off.

Worse homeless. But yeah, so it's like, you know, it's a real fucking terrible shit. It's so bad.

Yeah, and.

Maybe that's where she fell from. Grace. Okay, guys, shut up, dude. And even Olivia's like, hey, man, you good? That's like a weird thing for anyone to say.

Well, it's just so weird because, again, this show has to just always... It's just turning into misery porn where it's like, or like, oh.

My sister went missing once.

I'm so damaged. Yes, remember my dead sister who got shot in front of me and then Carisi made fun of me to my face about it at the bar last night.

Not over that yet.

Yeah, still working my way through that. And now this falls on my lap, a case that I can't prosecute because an unhoused person was raped, which apparently 90% of them are, according to the other guy. And my sister once ran away and for like, however long, and my dad used half of the police force to try to find her.

And she was, like, doing meth.

Yeah, so he's like, now, how could this possibly be more about me?

She bit the bumper off of a car.

I know, but again, it's like, can we focus on the girl here?

Yeah, at this point, I would take Noah at this point.

Yeah, seriously. I don't say that lightly.

And so, Grace's sorry sophie's parents show up and it's her dad and her stepmom and they're like yeah so you know sophie's mom died when she was real little she didn't really like me because i was fucking her dad and when she went missing we like looked for her for a while but eventually mark had to go back to work which is not untrue but like there's a there's a way to say that.

Yeah um And so that's when Liv's like, great, well, she'll love to talk to you whenever we find her.

And they're like, wait, you don't, you don't know where she is? You call yourself a cop? Yeah.

And she's like, uh, I mean, well, we, we had her, uh, and then she evaded us. And, uh, I guess we didn't know how to get ahold of you to tell you, maybe hold off on coming down.

There's also, there's also, uh, he's like, oh, I bet she's, she's going to be really excited to see me. She, she, she say anything about me? And Olivia's like, she did not mention you once. Brutal.

And then he has that beat, beat. Well, that's even worse.

Well, that's worse.

Everyone knows that's worse.

This is where Stone says, how dare you? You call yourself a father. When my sister went missing, my dad had half the PD looking for her. And Olivia's like, your dad was the DA. Yeah. What the fuck are you talking about?

Yeah, and she says, like, not everyone is in a position to be able to do that. Ben, and it's... Ben. It's Curtis. Ben? Ben Stone was the man.

I know. Oh, hello, Ben. Oh, hello, Ben.

It's like, no, Curtis, it's important to me you understand that what your dad did was, one, highly illegal, or unethical, at the very least. And that guy.

Did you just call him Curtis? Yeah, isn't... Peter. Peter.

Pete, why did I call him Curtis?

I don't know. That's why I thought that was quite funny.

Is the actor's name Curtis?

No. Maybe you're confusing him with Curtis Sliwa. He's wearing the beret. Oh. I don't know.

That's so weird.

Okay. Yeah.

Peter, excuse me. Yeah.

It's okay.

I've lost all credibility in this argument. Never mind.

They get a ping on homelessfinder.net or whatever the fuck it's called. Street Life. And they find her. She's kind of in a little encampment with Tommy. They're chatting. We're watching her from a distance. And then Tommy just full-on haymaker sucker punches her. Why? Who can say?

We never find out, I don't think.

No. Other than, like, he's probably also a little bit mentally ill. But they, like, descend on Tommy. They grab Sophie slash Grace. The bandages on her head are looking pretty tidy. And... And they're like, your boyfriend is going to jail for domestic abuse. And why do we think he's her actual boyfriend?

I don't think it matters if it's boyfriend or not. You just watched him walk up and punch her and just assault would be fine. Just start there. Why do we have to put a little spice on that?

And this is where she says that like, yeah, she sleeps with him for like a place to sleep sometimes. But unlike.

And then sometimes he hits you. It's fine. This is how it works.

Unlike other dudes who just rape her just because. And they're like, Silas?

That's pretty bleak. You know, she's like, at least I get raped for a reason with Tommy. And it's like, well, this is just very, very bad. And then Carissa's like, it's not going to get better. It's like, but then where is she going to go? Are she staying with you? You guys realize you're like, oh, you can't do it.

It's like, right. She doesn't want, you understand that she doesn't want to be doing this, right? Like, it's important to me that the cops who understand that, that these are things she's doing.

To literally survive. All homeless people are homeless by choice, which is why it's illegal.

But like, how do they keep being like, you got to leave Tommy. It's like, I don't think she wants to stay with Tommy. It's not because she's.

Like, oh boy.

Yeah.

So they say like, oh, you mean like how Silas raped you? And she's like, you fucking idiot. Silas didn't rape me. It's my fault. He paid me what we agreed to. Yikes. And then I got greedy and tried to take more money. Double yikes.

Which is why, then when you think back to the crazy-ass story that Silas was saying, you're like, that's why you should have started the story with, I know this is going to sound crazy, but believe me, hear me out.

And then we completely abandoned this because she's like, oh, your parents are here to see you. And she's like, who?

Oh, yeah. And she's like, my parents are dead. And Liv's like, what were their names?

And she's like, I.

Have no idea.

I do not know. Maybe it's the constant head trauma from Tommy punching you in your fucking melon.

Or the fact that nary two days ago, I was hitting the head with a metal pipe like from Clue.

Honestly, good point. But Olivia shows her her own picture from the sorority house, and she's like, who's that girl? She's pretty.

I'm like, wait a second. So she's never seen herself in the mirror since... grace no but honestly this is where i was like.

Inside can we get can we get taken off of apple for that can we do it for that if we don't use the actual no but you know i'm sorry it's like hang on a second so she like this is where like the really.

Existential part of like these these fume states that we're supposed to believe that she's in i'm like so what does she think.

That she is Yeah, like, her sense of self is super weird. She doesn't recognize her own face blindness. Okay. And at one point, she, like, slowly realizes that something is wrong with her. And Olivia's like, send in the parents. Like, yo, maybe give everyone a heads up.

But she snaps out of it pretty quick because as soon as the dad steps in, she's like, oh, dad, all right, here we go.

Right on.

Yeah.

But it snaps her out so hard that she doesn't remember the last three years. She's like, wait a minute. How did I get here?

Who are you? Where?

Okay. And so we get her a psyche bell.

I wanted there to be like a secret twin. I wanted it so bad. I wanted something weirder. They could have done so much stuff.

That didn't even occur to me, and that sounds amazing. Right? Separated at birth twin. Love that.

I would love that. Because then it's a real, like, oh, because one of them's homeless and the other one is, like, rich. It's like, ah, the real.

I do believe that's the plot of I Know Who Killed Me.

I think you're right, actually.

So she gets a psyche val, Lisa Abernathy's there, and Sophie is like, you know, one time I rode a water ski... And I fell, and Dad was, like, nervous or laughed or something. I don't know why I remembered that.

And the shrink's like, well, it was a good time, so you, you know, remembered that. There you go. That's fine.

Now that she remembers who she is, she gets to wear, like, a nice expensive sweater.

Her hair's done a little bit differently.

So, yeah, this is where Abernathy says that she has dissociative fugue disorder? Question mark?

Yeah, it's the thing that Walter White pretends to have gone through, whatever he finds himself naked in the grocery store.

I didn't fucking believe it then. No, I don't believe it now.

I don't either.

You know, it's probably kind of real, but whatever. And, uh, and so Abernathy says, well, you know, in youth, in, in, in juveniles, which she's not, she's like 21, but in, in younger people, this usually happens because of like child abuse or sexual assault. And her, her person, her persona was exiled from her conscious mind. It's like killing herself without having to kill yourself.

And I wrote down, wow, it's all the benefits of suicide without any of the mess.

This is what they meant when they said suicide is painless. Yes.

And so Stone's like, and I would love, and so they're like, it had to have been a sexual assault that caused this break because she's not a child.

Oh, maybe. Okay. Or maybe all of the head trauma.

I mean, but that wasn't what the doctor said, Aviv. So, you know, we're not going to.

Fucking consider anything. Yeah, abuse doesn't count head trauma. No, it's not.

The physical abuse, you see, doesn't matter.

Well- You know what?

Stop asking questions. This is what we're doing. This is the episode we're making.

And Olivia's like, Fugue state is the line. Fugue state. We're going to fugue state. So Olivia's like, I'll catch him. And Stone's like, you catch him, I'll cook him. Shut up, Stone.

And then they're like, well, we can't do any of that because she can't identify who it is. And Stone's like, we don't have years to wait around. It's like, you gotta do though you have up to seven i believe so she's like we can't just have her go get treatment all this time to find out who raped her so i can.

I gotta i gotta fuck somebody soon so he says starting with the man that who assaulted her might be a good place to start that sorry abernathy says starting with the man who assaulted her might be a good place to start ugly line but I think that they're talking about either Tommy or Silas or something, but instead they're like, oh, let's take her back to the place where she became Grace, which is this fucking college.

Yeah. So it's, uh, cause that's why, cause Stone's like, well, we can't introduce her to that to, Because we don't know, so we gotta take her back to the place. So they go back to the sorority. And now she's, like, walking... She's, like, giving Liv a tour.

Like, hey, I remember that fucking guy. Yeah, I remember living here.

That's where I fucked a guy under a tree.

Yeah, literally. And she says that her freshman year was, quote, so on fleek. Shut up.

The two of them are waltzing around this campus. Like, they have been buddies for years. Like, they are just catching up gabbing.

Yeah, Olivia... Reveals that she dated a dude named Billy in college. And Billy introduced her to canned tuna. Before she was just eating Captain Crunch. It's funny because she will soon become a captain. And Crunch guys nuts under her boot.

Like tuna.

That's like, like tuna?

Question mark?

And so they go to the... The, like, lecture hall kind of building. And they're walking down the hallway. And then suddenly... Sophie stops and is like, you should really see the stadium. And Olivia's like, no, I think I want to continue down this hallway.

And she's like, no, really, the stadium, though.

What if we run into some of my old professors? Like who? Like Professor Adams. He gave me a B minus. Oh, my God. I have to go tell my dad that I got a B minus. He'll be so mad at me. And Olivia's like, please, Sophie, I have a son. It's all fine. He has been kidnapped.

I put him in jeopardy. All the time. Let's continue down this hallway here. Something tells me we might be on to something here.

And she says, I'll be right by your side the whole time. And then immediately like was like, see ya and walks like 20 feet ahead of her. So we walk into this guy, Professor Adams office. She sees a couch with like an ink stain on it. And she's like, it was right there. He gave me a B-, I went to see if I could get extra credit, and he said he, quote, believed in sex for grades. I don't think, I think you, I mean, listen, he's pre-med, he's not like a, or he's like a biology guy, he's not like a linguist, but I believe in sex for grades is a little inelegant.

It's pretty to the point, though.

Pretty to the point.

At least you understand what's happening, there's no... He's like, no, I'm not even, I'm not even trying to hide this.

It's like, no, no, no, no. Speaking of linguistic parallels, she says, who's going to believe me? And Olivia says, I do, which is not linguistically parallel. She should, Olivia should have said, I am, I will. Yeah. But she says, I do, which, and that just, it, it bothers me because I have brain damage.

Um, I'm like, so wait, they kept the couch?

They kept it with the gross ink stain. The ink happened because she had a pen in her pocket that was stabbing her while he was raping her. Stabbing her to the point that the pen broke.

Yeah, I was like, so that guy, it makes me wonder what is on the other side of that cushion.

Bad stuff. But when... Sophie and Olivia enter, she says, oh, it's exactly the same, which is weird because some random woman comes out of the office and is like, what are you doing in my office?

Who the fuck are you?

And I'm thinking, because of the way she says it, I'm thinking, oh, this girl is Elizabeth Holmes-ing. She's like completely spinning a yarn and she got unlucky that the professor whose office it is is a woman. And it turns out that's not the case It's that Professor Adams died in March, and this woman took over his office and didn't change anything, including the fuck couch. The stained fuck couch.

Yeah, and it really does look dirty as fuck.

It doesn't look great.

No.

But he died of a heart attack, and she looks so upset.

Yeah, I mean, I guess I would be too if I worked myself up to... Like, that level of disappointment.

Confront him? Yeah. I guess. If I found out that my rapist died of a heart attack, I'd kind of be psyched.

Right, but I think here's the problem, is because Olivia has gotten involved, everything goes terribly, because she's centered it all on, you will feel better when you.

Can confront him. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And so... So she's.

Got her belief in that now. And she's mentally not, she's lost three years of her life of it. She's not doing great, as it turns out. and then you sick live on her, and things magically get worse.

Just a broken person. They go back to SVU, and they're in the, like, not the interrogation room, but, like, kind of the family room. And, you know, Olivia tries to, like, comfort Sophie. Sophie flips the glass coffee table. It does not break. She's like, don't touch me. But she says don't touch me as she's running toward Olivia, which is weird.

But she said, you said I'd feel better if I looked him in the eye, and now I can't look him in the eye because he's fucking dead. I was better off on the street. Were you? Also, I thought you couldn't remember the street. Now you remember both?

Yeah, actually, that's a good point. Wait a second. Hang on. Hold on. Wait a second. Wait a second. That actually changes a lot of things.

For you.

Well, no, because if we're to believe that the fugue state is real.

Unless, I mean, it seemed pretty clear that she remembered being on the street in this scene, but it's maybe outside possible that they just like told her that she was on the street and she is taking a guess that she would have been better on the street.

Well, I don't know because she seems like to use this Fuchs. She seems to use Grace as the, like the Hulk. She could just like, I agree. To like dip in and out of because later she's like, actually right now she's like, ah, I'm going to break everything in this fucking office. And Liv is like, that's right.

You fuck this room up, Grace.

Yeah, she like hands her a mug. She's like, smash the mug. You ever smashed a mug on the ground?

I haven't, but actually, have you ever done one of those, like, rage room things?

I haven't, but I had to do, like, a set. I had to, like, decorate a set that had been smashed up, and I got to slam a mug on the floor, and it was really fun.

No, I remember back in college in my fraternity house, there was a bunch of, like, old furniture that was in the basement from, I think, the people that were there before that just got left, so we had to... Yeah, but what we did was we had to get rid of it. We didn't have, like, a bulk trash thing, so we were like, well, we're just going to break it up into, like, smaller manageable amounts and throw them out in just a bunch of garbage bags. So we just got a bunch of, like, sledgehammers and stuff, and we just got to bring a bunch of furniture out to the backyard and smash it. Like, it really was a lot of fucking fun.

Super fun. So Olivia, like, kind of tackles Sophie onto the couch. And it looks like.

They're going to kiss. Which, great. You know what you should do, Liv? You should replicate the act of the rape that she just uncovered from her deep psyche. Yeah, do the same type thing.

Do you have to be on the couch? But she says, he's dead, but you're not. Okay, cool. So they don't know what to do. Olivia's like, well, we really fucked the dog on this one. And Carisi's like, what if we 5150 her? And she's like, oh, and she'll just see a shrink for two fucking days and he'll drug her up and put her back on the street. We hate shrinks that much. Why is 5150 a thing then?

You know, Aviv, this show is saying some things about the state of the social services available to unhoused people in this country.

That is true. But this is where the episode takes a turn for the absolutely idiotic Because Carisi says, if you weren't already dead, I'd kill that guy.

No, first he says, I got a call from some other unit. They said that they found her, like, digging through the trash.

Over on this section. Oh, yeah, she's in the wind again. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Yeah, and he's like, oh, they found her, and they said that she's going by the name Grace. You want me to pick her up? And she's like, I have... For what? I can't keep her. I was like, Liv, she's your ward now.

This is when they're like, we could baby 5150 her.

Yes, but that's.

The lead up.

They're like, we can't arrest her for no reason except 5150 her. But then it's just like, yeah, if that son of a bitch weren't dead already, I'd kill him myself.

And Olivia gets this look in her face that caused me to write the note, Carissa, you're a genius. And then she says it. She says, you're a genius, Carisi. And the solution is to just bring her to the cemetery and have her yell at the tombstone? Read a letter to the tombstone?

Yeah, so she has a victim statement.

How the fuck did you need Carisi to inspire you to think of that?

Again, if it was they brought her as Grace to the grave and were like, you killed him. You told him and you killed him. You just don't remember it.

Memento style. Yeah. You did it.

Exactly. That's what I thought they were going to do. And then, like, she would go from Grace back to.

Sophie.

Sophie. And, like, she'd be like, oh, my God, he's gone. He's dead. I have the closure I need.

Hug. No.

Live with a whisper. You're going to be okay. Dick Wolf.

I mean, close, but no cigar.

Wouldn't that have been a better ending?

I agree. I think that they should have hired a lookalike, but... That's just me. So she reads a letter to the tombstone and she's like, you took three years for me and I hate you so much, but I have my family here. And then it cuts to just a different angle and her parents are there, but you don't see them in the like master shot, which is very fucking weird.

Right. And then there's like family beat and friends.

She turns and looks at Liv. I'm like, girl, that's... Cops are not your friends.

Walter, Liv is not your friend.

Yes, she is.

No, she is not.

But she's like, and I'm going to and you're dead and I'm going to live again. And Olivia is like, yes, you are. Yes, you are. Trash. Terrible. Garbage. Really exploded on reentry there.

It's just, there was, it was right there. So much more fun of an ending was right there. You're SVU. You're fantastical at this point. Why not do it?

Hire a lookalike. Dig his body up. You've exhumed bodies for less.

Put him up like a marionette. That would be fun.

I got no strings to hold me. Fuck yeah. From Trivia Corner. A peripatetic is someone who likes to wander around or travel constantly. A nomad, in other words. And 5150 is the California welfare and institutions code that allows peace officers, yeah, right, to detain mentally ill people for medical evaluation. The statute has no effect outside of California and certainly not in New York where SVU is set.

New York officers have a, quote, mental hygiene statute, section 941, but they would likely reference it as mental hygiene or emergency committal, not 5150.

Huh. I understood what that meant.

Yeah, and from the goofs department, which that was also a goof, but whatever. From the goofs department, early in the story, when the rape victim is in the hospital, she's shown getting fluids intravenously from a fluid bag. She has a green butterfly needle taped to her arm, which is only used for blood collection or to inject small amounts of medication. In reality, an IV catheter would be used instead.

Again, I really hope someone got fired for that one.

Say the line. Say the line. And from User Review Corner, I shit you not, only positive reviews.

Really?

Of the written ones, yeah.

Am I the weird one here?

I liked it until I didn't like it. It's just....

I just hate when the show was really trying to pat itself on the back where it's like, we're doing an episode with homeless people or unhoused people. We're going to keep calling them homeless as opposed to unhoused, but that's fine. And it's just like, they're like, ah, we did a good thing, didn't we?

We did a good thing.

Because even whenever they bring in Tommy for no fucking reason when he runs... They're like, yeah, go get your donuts and coffee in the fucking break room on your way out.

Thank you for your service.

Yeah, like, it's just.

So we're going to read a couple user reviews. This is from Phuketboy from December 6th, 2018. 10 out of 10 stars. I spit on your grave. Kill the past and move on. Different future.
