Welcome back to Artists on Artists on Artists on Artists. Hey, I think I know the answer. If you do, make sure to write it down. We're talking to trivia hosts.
Bar trivia is one of the most exciting activities for a group of acquaintances to do in this country. All across the country, people are doing bar trivia together. And these are the intrepid hosts that bring the crew together and get that party going.
We sit down with four very excited and excitable bar trivia hosts to pick their brain about what makes the perfect type of question. And how do you bring kind of a boring thing to life?
So pull up a stool, think of a team name, and let's listen in.
Guys, first of all, I'm jazzed as fuck.
Can I say that? I am jazzed up.
Let me hear you. I am jazzed as fuck.
Let's go. Let me hear you.
Let me hear you, everybody.
You belong with me. You belong with me.
Taylor Swift. The album is Fearless, and that is from 2007. That sounds correct. You get three points. What year was Taylor Swift born? 1989.
That's correct.
That is three points to Munster's Mustard, and we are in it.
Guys, wow. It's like we're cosplaying who we host. Exactly. I mean, we are, so we're hosts, right?
We are pub trivia hosts.
But also, you're always a learner and you're always part of the thing.
If you didn't play, how can you host? Exactly. If you didn't play, how can you host?
We always play each other's nights.
Peek behind the curtain. Peek behind the curtain. I never know the answers.
I always go, beat me! That is so funny.
Beat me! Beat me!
And you know, you run the night that's called Beat Her, which I think we should change that.
Yeah, I think it's fine. It always makes a splash on Instagram.
Yeah, the wrong kind of splash. The wrong kind of splash.
Beat me!
Beat me!
And honestly, I can never figure out what gun or machinery you're using in that moment.
Well, it's mostly because those reels use so much AI, too.
It's such an AI image of what that is.
It helps me work faster. Anyway, how is everybody?
Guys, I feel awesome.
I'm so chill. I feel awesome. I feel so great. I feel awesome.
I feel awesome and jacked and jazzed and freaking out to have all of my best friends in one room.
Well, because here's another peek behind the curtain.
Yeah, peek it.
We used to be a bar trivia team together.
Yeah.
Yes, and we thought, you know what?
We can run this thing better than these bozo clowns can.
Because can we talk about Terry the Snoozer?
The guy who was running the trivia night that we all went to.
Spits on Hillhurst.
Speaker 7:
Bury me in that spit.
Yeah.
So we all met at Spits on Hillhurst. It's a restaurant in Los Feliz.
We were all single trivias that they made us all go into one group together because they were like, if anybody is looking for somebody, we all kind of went.
Oh, we're looking.
I'm actually looking for somebody. Let's try it. And we made our name Only the Lonelys. Only the Lonelys. Because we were solo.
Only the Lonelys.
Only the Lonelys.
And then I think at one point we did Riding Solo.
Riding Solo. A couple nights where we were Riding Solo. We were Peaky Finders. Peaky Finders. That was good.
We loved to peek behind the curtain. We used to ask the DJ all the questions about how it worked.
Remember that one night we all wore bolo ties and we called them Solo Ties.
Solo Ties. Riding Solo. Solo Ties was so fun.
Solo Ties.
And so, yeah, so we began to realize we were a crew.
We loved trivia nights.
And we would bring an energy to the night that the host couldn't have because Terry the Snoozer was bad as fuck at what she did.
She couldn't really handle the energy.
Literally, if you have sleep problems, I feel bad for your son. Because I got 99 problems, but Terry will put me to bed immediately because she's so snoozy.
Yes.
Exactly.
Get her ass. Get her ass.
Jay-Z, a 1999 Jay-Z's album.
Two points. I'll give you two points for that one.
Is that from Empire State of Mind?
No. No. No. No.
No way. Wait, it's ridiculous you thought that. Are you serious? Stop.
I can't with these guys right now. I can't with these guys. I can't with you. I can't with you. I can't with you. I can't with you.
I'm about to ask for fries with extra hummus because we had Spitz.
No! Oh!
Nothing like fries with extra hummus.
God, Spitz's food is so interesting.
God, Spitz is so interesting.
Started by two brothers. True story.
Whoa.
Oh, two points for that. Two brothers.
Two brothers. And they went to Occidental College, I believe, actually.
That's how you know that.
That's how you know that.
We got an Oxy grad here. We got an Oxy grad.
Guys, go Tigers. Anyway, and then we, so we all formed our own company. We all formed our own company, our own trivia company.
Where we take our own specific brand of kind of awesome sauce trivia.
Just like Spitz. I love their awesome sauce.
I love that awesome sauce. It's not tahini, but it's like it.
It's like it.
It's similar.
Imagine tahini, but brown. Tahini, but brown. Imagine tahini and ketchup. That's what it is. So you went to Oxy. Why don't you tell us your name, Oxy?
I went to Oxy.
Hi, guys. I'm not just an alumni of Occidental College. There's a lot more to me.
There's a name.
I am.
You guys, I can't with you.
There's a name under there, son. I can't with you. I can't with you. I've discovered a name. under that.
I can't with you guys, actually.
I was searching, I was voyaging through the sea, looking for a name.
You must start believing in names, Miss Turner. You got one.
I can't, I can't.
Yes, 2003. I can't, I can't with that. Yes, Dead Man's Chest. No, number one, Crystal Black Pearl. Okay, what's your name?
So what's your name, girl? Well, I'd like to say, hi, my name is what?
My name is who?
My name is Layla Johnson. My name is Layla Johnson.
I run social media for, well, it doesn't matter anymore because this is shaping up for a full-time gig.
You could be our social media person, and you are. Well, you can say it. Palantir.
I ran social media for Palantir. You can say it. I was making fun reels, sort of like.
taking all the surveillance they're doing and turning the clips, like remixing all the clips of the surveillance into like fun, relatable memes where it's like, when you forgot, when you forgot to turn your Porsche light on and then it's just footage of a man who didn't know he was being built.
Yes.
I find it so funny that brands talk like us now.
I love it. I love Palantir talks like me. Palantir talks like me. I love that Palantir talks like me.
I just love it.
Do you guys ever feel so immense gratitude that you were born in this specific timeline where brands are people?
Adina talks like me.
Adina talks like me.
I posted her Instagram reel of my messy bedroom and Aetna told me to clean my room or they're calling my mother.
Aetna.
Edna got you.
Edna's like your friend. Blue Cross Blue Shield talks like me.
Yes!
So, yeah.
Yeah, like yesterday I posted something and Black Knight said, um, question mark?
I was like, yes, queen!
I posted a reel about getting ghosted.
And then, um, uh, uh, uh, uh, it was Colgate.
Colgate was like, bitch, you gotta raise your standards.
You're toothpaste. What the hell?
I posted a video of me in a bikini going six, seven, and Clarendon roasted me for filth and said, why are you in a bikini at night?
I said, Clarendon speaks like me. Clarendon speaks like me. Dude, that rocks, though. That's such a good job. Oh, yeah.
It's such a good job.
Because the truth is, we can't do this full, full, full time.
But you were saying you were about to quit it, because we are doing it full.
Well, I am. Yeah, because, OK, so here's the thing. I might have scored us some funding.
What?
And where would that go?
I might have scored us some funding.
New speakers. New speakers. New speakers. New speakers. New speakers. I love speakers!
I have been talking to a great venture capital firm that my dad is friends with.
Dad's friends with a venture capital firm?
My dad is friends with a venture capital firm.
They are called Hand and Claw Investments, and they... are behind a lot of sports gambling apps and a lot of restaurants that you might be familiar with and Costco and other things.
And so, they're like really.
Exciting it's like what a portfolio.
It's a really exciting asset and they are looking to do hold that thought trivia they are looking to fund us Hold That Thought Trivia.
That's our name.
Hold That Thought Trivia.
Hold That Thought.
T-H-O-T.
T-H-O-T.
Hold That Thought.
Hold That Thought.
Hold That That Ho over there.
Thought!
So I don't want to promise too much, but there might be a world where we might be able to start taking full-time salaries.
No way.
Because they think that they can use this for profit somehow.
Dude.
So I'm so excited to find out.
I love that. I can't believe HTH is about to take off like that. I'm on HTH, you know? You're on HTH.
You're on HTH.
Hold that thought.
Hold that thought. Hold that thought.
And I would say that my style of trivia hosting is like. It's a little cheeky. You're definitely the cheeky one. I'm constantly trying to push buttons. And sometimes the crowd vibes with it if they're a good crowd. And sometimes the crowd doesn't vibe with it if they're.
A bad crowd.
Name your nights, though, too.
You have some really good nights.
Oh, my God, I do such interesting nights.
Well, they're not all of our nights, I'd say, are, like, well-carved. Yeah.
I would say, like, you might look at it and go, oh, that's not my thing.
But I will guarantee you there's 50 to 60 people that it is their thing. Yes.
Like, live or die.
I host Lovato Muchacho. Do you have?
Lovato Muchacho is one of the best nights in LA. It is girly pop mariachi crossover.
It is the only Demi Lovato mariachi crossover trivia.
The audience is very divided. It's crazy. You either know the Demi Lovato or you know the mariachi stuff. There's no in between. It's either cool for the summer or Guantanamera.
And here's the thing is, there's nothing like it.
Nothing. You can't find anything like that.
You can't find anything like that.
What about your women's rights trivia?
Oh, my God. Bitch, don't give away my rights.
Bitch, don't give away my rights is every Thursday at.
Oh, my gosh.
I feel like I just saw something out of the corner of my eye. Sorry. I'm scared of ghosts.
OK.
Yeah.
So bitch, don't give away my rights is every Thursday at.
Um, and, uh, it's super exciting. It's like a bunch of trivia about like bad ass girl bosses and like, You know, there's some fun stuff for the guys too.
Like, but literally I've been there. Like you can write down RGB for almost RBG for, and you'll get 30% of the questions, right?
Literally 30%.
Ruth Bader is 30% of the answers.
Ruth Bader is a lot of the answers.
She crushed women. Like she crushed.
She like murdered like women as a concept. She like murdered that.
Layla, Layla. I got you on my knees, Layla. You're crazy cool.
Eric Clapton, 1972. Eric Clapton's self-titled album. You're missing the album most times, so you get two points.
Okay, thanks. Nice job.
Let's get our Disney boy talking.
Stop.
Get our Disney boy talking.
Stop.
Really stop.
Our Disney boy talking about.
Mickey Mouse. Okay, hi. Yes, that is me.
That is me, the Disney boy.
My name is Marsalo Malcolm III. Marsalimo Malcolm III.
Marsalimo!
Marsalimo! When you wish upon a salvo!
I love when we have pool parties and I jump in the pool and I go, Salmo!
Marcello! Marcello! I love when you do that. I love when you do that. We all love when you do that. Anyway, so I'm kind of the Disney guy.
You might actually like my green.
Stop. Show him your tattoo. I was about to say.
Oh, please, please, please.
This is Goofy and Donald kissing. Yes.
This is the kind of stuff you kick at anywhere else.
I got the Marvel tattoo once they were bought by Disney right here. Over here, this is my tattoo of Homer Simpson when Disney acquired Homer Simpson.
You mostly get tattoos of new acquisitions.
Yeah, I'm kind of an acquisition guy.
Did you do anything for OpenAI or for Sora when they bought Sora?
Uh-huh. Yeah, look at my butt. I've got a video that Sora made on my butt.
Look at my butt.
Yeah, so it's a crazy picture. So, yeah, you might notice me from that. You might notice me from my suggestions on how to Disneybound correctly.
Yeah.
I have a TikTok called how to up your ass. up your outfits at Disney bounding. Um, and it's really fun. I kind of like help people out.
And I will say they roasted you for the memo you posted on Tumblr, kind of the do's and don'ts and the rules and like what you forbade.
Yes.
And I think they were being really mean to you. Thank you. I was like, uh, what gives? This is good advice.
Yeah.
Like don't wear something that's too revealing or, When you're seeing Minnie, you don't want to upstage her. You said never look sexier than Minnie. I said never look sexier than Minnie.
She is a dime. She is a ten.
She's the bride.
She's the bride. Don't try to show up looking sexier than Minnie Mouse.
Literally.
I love Minnie Mouse. So weird. God, I love those characters. Minnie Mouse, Mickey Mouse, Goofy, Donald. Oh my God.
Okay, okay, okay.
They're so fun.
If you could have dinner with any of those characters, who would it be?
No, no, wait, no.
Who would it be?
No, this is, no, I can't. You must answer. You have to. I literally can't. Gun to head.
I would take the.
Bullet in my mouth because I can't.
You have to pick one.
Shoot me dead right now. I can't. No, come on. Choose one to get dinner.
Choose one to get dinner.
I'm gonna hold the chair. No, no, guys, don't.
Turn.
Don't.
No, 10. Okay, original IP, expanded universe IP.
Like, what can I include?
Core.
Core.
Core.
Corecast. Corecast.
Mickey, Money, Goofy, Donald.
Daisy.
Daisy.
Three. Two.
I'm guessing going regular Mickey Mouse from the original Steamboat Willie.
Steamboat Mickey. I'm going to go with that Mickey Mouse.
One.
Ladies and gentlemen, we got him. We got him. We got him.
No, but don't say I said that. Because, like, I've got people that follow me. It wouldn't go well.
I can't believe he said that.
People that follow you would be mad that you like Mickey, that you'd want to get dinner with Mickey.
People that follow him got mad that he said Minnie was sexy.
Come on, he can't say anything.
You just don't understand the Disney bounding community. It's very serious. It's very serious. And yeah, so I think I made the wrong choice.
I'm so embarrassed.
No, no, you're good. Like that's a good choice.
Selma, it's great.
You host Creature Night, which is such an important night.
And you've also been hosting lecture nights, too.
We've been expanding past trivia where people just give hour-long speeches.
Yeah, it's kind of like.
You had that guy come on and talk about drones.
Yeah, it was really fun. Thank you. It was awesome.
Are you okay?
Yeah.
Are you scared?
Don't be scared. I just felt like I made the wrong choice.
Hey, buddy, it's okay.
We can go back.
Was the countdown too intense?
I mean, we were like... We did have two guns to his head.
We did point two guns at his head.
It's fine.
Government-like.
We got him. I know.
Oh, no.
Oh, no.
So I host Down on Your Disneys to... Down.
On Your Disneys?
Get Down on Your Disneys. And it's kind of like a fun Disney-themed trivia night.
Hey, hey, hey, you okay?
Why the fuck did I choose Steamboat Mickey? No, it's okay, it's okay, it's okay. You're good, man. Hey, hey, you're good. No one's going to be upset with you.
You're good.
Let it go.
And do you want to just say right now that you didn't write everybody to dinner?
Yeah, you could say that. We just thought it would be fun.
That's against the rules. I don't want to break the rules. We made the question up.
If you could invite all of the four, all of the core cast of Disney, gun to your head, you could invite everybody that's kind of a friend of Mickey to dinner.
Who would you invite? I answered Steamboat Mickey. I don't know what you want me to... I'm saying if you could invite everybody.
Yeah, like if you could invite everybody.
If I could invite everybody, nobody would miss out.
Yeah.
All right.
Great.
That's awesome. Does that feel better?
Does that make you feel better?
So do you want to announce that everybody's invited? Everybody's invited to dinner.
Hey, yeah.
Does that feel better? Does that feel better?
Is that okay? Yeah, of course.
Okay, there we go. There we go.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Of course.
Of course. Okay, good.
Thanks.
So yeah, come out to down on your Disney's whenever you want to do fun Disney themed trivia.
Yeah.
I'm taking up so much space right now.
Your night is so much fun. Yeah, we got to hear from you guys.
Yeah, my name is Cedric Coyne.
I'm a PhD candidate at Loyola Marymount.
Wait, tell me. Exactly.
LM Goo. Please, wait, wait, wait.
You have to tell me your dissertation because it's so funny.
Your dissertation makes me laugh!
Layla! Let her laugh at me! I can be funny. Go, let's see it. I'll tell you.
Okay, so I'm actually doing a dissertation about the correlations and differences between gay of Thrones and Legally Blonde.
Stop, stop, stop.
Like, isn't that, like, doesn't that just kind of make you want to, like, scream and run around?
Because imagine, Jon Snow is this outsider who is, people are betting against him, but he's still trying to succeed.
And that's very similar to Elle Woods.
So it's a 90-page paper where I go into the differences and the changes.
What's your doctorate in again? It's arts and letters. Arts and letters? I have a doctorate in arts and letters. Plus letters. You study letters, right? Arts and letters?
Yeah. I'm a doctorate of arts and letters. PhD of arts and letters. So I do arts and letters. So all sort of art medium and then letters too.
So what's the letters? A, B, C.
Is it like written? Or no, it's alphabet. It's alphabet.
I'm a doctorate of arts and letters. And what alphabet is used for, which is language, which is writing letters.
That's awesome.
Yeah.
Dude, I love that dissertation. That's crazy. But this has been such.
Speaker 8: Speaker 8:
.
.
Speaker 2: Speaker 2: Speaker 2: Speaker 2:
the Jumbo's Clown Room?
Yes.
I love the Renaissance Trivia.
While the burlesque show is going on.
You have a guy on the loudest mic in the corner.
Asking you questions about horses.
If you guys don't know, Jumbo's Clown Room is a very prolific classic burlesque bar and I love that they do renaissance trivia there.
Yeah, so like someone's dancing to like One Night in Bangkok and then I'm shouting.
Like name five artists from the Baroque period.
So that's kind of what I do and I of course I'm hosting all sorts of I do Roaring Twenties art deco trivia.
Sick as hell. So fun. Oh, that's so fun.
That's such a crowd pleaser. Sick as hell.
People are loving it and I do it on Catalina Island in the The only place you can.
The only place you can. The only place I can.
And I have become kind of famous in Catalina Island because the first time I got in there, I missed the dock and I fell in.
And I was wet the whole time. So they call me the wet guy. That is so funny. The wet guy. But now I host wet.
You host trivia wet.
I get trivia wet.
The commitment that that takes, I think people don't realize. Hosts don't need costumes.
No!
No! But you have them. Okay, you go, though.
Yeah, okay. She's in her element.
Stop.
I didn't say you dance. I said you go.
Oh! Listener, there's some dancing going on. You're going to have to get to the video.
If you're going to audio medium, you might be having FOMO.
There's some releasing kind of tit vibe.
It's like not releasing bra, it's releasing tit. It's sort of like.
Like pulling out tits like.
A deck of cards. Was there a baby chick in my tit? Because now it's free. Oh, it's curtains on the tit. Oh, there it is.
Oh, okay.
It's closed. All right, okay. Oh, it's a door.
And we're tying a bow.
It's kind of a reveal of a whole tit. Oh, and now it was a shirt? Or it's very sheer. Very sheer.
Wow.
Are you ready?
Kill me, I do charades.
Let's go!
Oh!
Back it up, son! What? What's up?
I'm Robitesset.
No way. No way. Yeah, you are.
Robitesset.
Robitesset.
I'm Robitesset Tessa, and I have been doing trivia. I do charades. I'm dancer first.
It's so fun that you've turned trivia into charades, which Trivia Night is so specifically not charades, but you've brought this whole new thing that you can have bar trivia that is charades.
I think we're.
Opening up what trivia is, like, I remember the first time I played Jackbox, I was like, I'm gonna do this every night of my life.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I mean, I think we all were there.
Oh man, I mean, the high of getting that first answer, but I'll say trivia charades is like, it's really challenging because there's, I think we've all had that moment when we played Your Night where it's like, oh my god, I know the answer, But I'm not doing the charades well enough to explain what it is.
And so you don't get it right.
And I didn't like it at first watching you do it because it did feel like kind of watching a cousin be like, look what I can do. Because you go like, I'm about to charade 10 movies. Guess what they are. So it's a lot of watching you.
Yeah, yeah.
It's kind of like all the questions are you doing charades.
But then everyone gets to guess.
Yeah, which is really confusing, too, because you don't ever know if people have locked in their guests yet, so you don't really know how long or how short you should do it.
And I love, sometimes you can tell when you haven't seen a movie.
Wait, no way.
Yeah.
You can tell? Do you remember the charade you did for Indiana Jones? This makes sense. Do it. Do it for us. Okay.
Okay.
Okay. Okay. Big circle. Big circle.
Yeah, sort of a hat. Maybe it's a hat.
Big circle baby. Oh, baby. Big circle baby. No.
Oh, having a baby. Nursing.
Big belly. Big belly. Big belly lady. Big belly lady.
Big belly lady.
This is what I love.
You never use like the regular charades things like movie, book, any of that three words.
You just start and it's a lot of no's. It's a lot of no's.
I'm figuring out the mechanics. I believe that charades, trivia, there is a future.
I want to do Pictionary. I want to do Hangman. I want to do other things. I want to blend it.
You know what I mean? And what were you doing? The charades right there. What were you doing?
I was trying to draw Indiana, the state.
Okay, I kind of think I saw that, but what about the big belly baby?
That was me trying to do the world, and then I was going to point at Indiana.
Oh, awesome. So you were going to draw the world. You were going to draw the world and hopefully land.
Back. Way up.
Not even point to America. Point to Indiana.
Yeah.
And I didn't know how I was going to get to Jones.
Yeah.
But I've never seen that movie.
Yeah. It's a classic one. I can't believe you haven't seen that.
1973.
It's okay. One point.
1973.
Guys, this is such a blast.
This is such a blast. I've got an announcement. What?
No, no, no.
You haven't even described anything about our company. No, no, no.
What is it?
What?
What are you talking about?
What do you mean?
I legitimately don't know where that came from. But I do have an announcement.
You have an announcement.
I have an announcement. Okay, what's up?
Okay.
It's time.
What's time?
For Disney Trivia Hour! It's time. Here is the first question. Are you guys ready to buzz in? Name your teams. Name your teams.
Quick.
What are your teams?
Nemo and Dory.
Nemo and Dory. Minnie's Vixen. What is your team name? Nemo and Dory's ass. You guys are in a team together. I'll be Nemo's ass. And I'm Dory's ass.
And I'm Minnie's Vixen's. Are you okay?
I don't like that. Why? Why don't you like that? Don't make fun. Sexualize them?
Yeah.
Don't sexualize them.
Okay.
Okay, so let's jump in. I'll just be, I'll be Dory's hand. It's fine, it's fine!
Okay.
These three boys.
This is starting to do a trivia question.
Yes, this is the question. Who can answer it?
These three boys love their uncle very much, who was a one rich duck.
Ding, ding, ding.
Huey, Dewey, and Louie. That's right. It's Huey, Dewey, and Louie.
Oh, shoot. I almost thought that.
Okay. How many points do I get?
That is three points for every name. And we are doing it classic trivia style. You guys will have five seconds to think of the answer, and then I'll see if anybody got it right. And when you get it right, you get a point, depending on how many answers you get right. But if you name the color that they were wearing, you get two extra points. And if you answer the whole category correctly, you're going to get ten extra points at the end of this. But if you miss one, you get minus nine points for missing the one.
Everything you get right is a point up. Everything you get wrong is a point against you this round. We're going to play lightning.
Round Disney style. Yeah, bro, we know.
No.
I know. It's like I'm covered in hummus at Spitz.
Okay.
Okay. Okay.
Here we go. First question.
We know.
This one is Disney villains. How many villains can you name in 10 seconds? Write it down. Write it down. Write it down. Write it down. Write it down.
Ding.
Time is up. You answer first.
Gaston.
One.
The weird scar.
Two.
The weird fish in Finding Nemo that is.
In the tank.
Three.
That's ten seconds. Your time is done.
You go.
Ursula.
One.
Jafar.
Two.
Ursula again.
No.
Cinderella's mom.
Three.
Stepmom.
Oh, my God. And that's time.
I'm so sorry.
That's three points. I almost thought that.
I almost thought that.
And go ahead. Get ready. Your time starts now. Captain Hook, Scar, Hades, Gaston. No repeats. No repeats. Dr. Radcliffe from Tarzan. Four.
Oh.
Oh.
Buzzer beater.
Buzzer beater.
Buzzer beater.
Buzzer beater.
Buzzer beater. Buzzer beater. Why are you doing this to me? Buzzer beater. Buzzer beater.
Your buzzer just got beat, bro.
Yeah, brother.
Are you afraid of your buzzer getting beat?
I hate to call you mommy. This has been fun. But I haven't announced it.
Oh no.
Oh no.
It's time for my trivia.
Okay.
Okay.
It's going to be lightning round. Okay.
I'm going to be holding items. If you think you know what I'm holding.
Buzz in.
Okay.
Is this a real item or a charaded item?
All real items.
Okay.
But I'm charading them.
Okay. So yes. Charaded item. Toothbrush.
Toothbrush.
Ding, ding, ding.
Toothbrush.
Car.
Steering.
Steering wheel.
Steering wheel.
Yes!
I said that! You don't have any of the items thought out? Oh, buzzer beater.
Oh, I'm hosting trivia.
Buzzer beater.
I'm hosting trivia.
I can't get buzzer beater.
I'm hosting trivia.
What were you doing in that last one?
I was telling a woman I cheated on her.
So that's not an item. Why would we guess you were holding a secret? Is that what you were holding? Infidelity. Infidelity, you were holding that.
Wow, this rocks.
Oh, my God, it was a secret. Guys, this is so fun, but I actually have an announcement.
Layla. What's going on? Layla.
I am expecting.
What? What?
To start my trivia. It's time for bad bitch trivia. Bitch don't kill my rights.
Bitch don't kill my rights.
Bitch don't kill my rights.
Okay.
Buzz in. Buzz.
Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
Yes.
How did you know?
Question number two.
This bad ass bitch kind of such. This bad ass bitch Dresses in all black, but she's not a witch.
Yes. Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
Yes.
Ten points.
Ten points.
Okay.
Question number three, and be warned, this one is hard.
This badass bitch had so many rules to uphold.
Ding, ding, ding, ding.
Rules, rules.
Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.
This badass bitch rhymes.
All of your questions start with this badass bitch, don't they?
Well, it's badass bitch trivia.
Yes.
It's badass bitch trivia. It's bitch don't kill my rights.
What's the next one?
What's the next one?
This badass bitch wrote a lot of books, but her name rhymes with rhyme them.
Name rhymes with rhyme them.
Yes. Yes.
Gloria Steinem?
Yes!
She wrote a lot of books, but her name.
Her only downside?
Her name rhymes with something weird.
Okay, this one, and this one is for all the points.
Okay.
This badass bitch loved voting, but she also helped women do it.
Loved voting, but also.
Helped women do.
It.
You've got to think about the question.
You've got to think about how I'm wording it.
Susan B. Anthony? Yes!
20 points.
Whoa!
We can't stop until we get a buzzer beater.
Oh, okay, then I'll do a bonus round.
Okay.
Buzzer beater! Buzzer beater!
Buzzer beater!
Buzzer beater! Buzzer beater! Well, guys, I do have a question, actually.
Yeah. Which is, do you want to shout out some of your favorite people that come to your trivia night?
That's such a good idea. Locals and favorites, like buddies.
We get to know these people because they make it kind of part of their daily, weekly schedule.
That is such a good idea. I love Terry and Gary. They are a married couple that love Disney so much. They come every week and they win most of the time.
They fight absolutely. all the time about the answers, but gosh, do they get the right questions. You stayed in their house for a week in Palm Springs with them, didn't you?
It was awesome. It was awesome. A dream come true. They had said, go to the pool whenever, whenever. Use the steam room whenever, whenever. Get in the sauna. Get in the sauna.
Get in the sauna.
Whenever.
Friendships that started trivia are friendships that are a lifetime.
Yeah.
That's awesome. So were they getting in the pool with you?
No.
Why would they do that? They were just like, get in there whenever.
And then what did they do when you were in the pool?
You know, watch, read and watch and watch and read. Watch and read.
Interesting.
Watch my Disney movies.
It was awesome.
Interesting.
Yeah, it was awesome. I love Gary and Terry. They freaking are legends of the game.
They.
We went to Disneyland the other day. It was so awesome. They made me ride with them in the middle of Haunted Mansion.
Whoa.
It was so cool. That's awesome, man. It's really great.
That's awesome. Can I ask, like, is there anything going on?
What do you mean?
Like, is there any kind of, like, vibe?
Yeah, friendship for sure.
Okay.
What kind of vibe?
I thought the Haunted Mansion seats were just two.
Yeah, but they stuffed me in. They stuffed me in the middle. It was all good.
That's okay.
What kind of vibe were you guys talking about?
Well, it just seems like they enjoy you being there in maybe a way that.
I guess three people can be friends.
Explain to me Disney terms.
Okay, so imagine... You might be able to understand this way.
Explain to me like I have Disney CTSD.
Imagine Aladdin and Jasmine, right?
Yeah.
So they're... I mean... Exactly. So they're on the carpet. They're on the magic carpet.
And imagine Aladdin is like, you know what? I met this friend at trivia. Can he come in the carpet as well? And then it's Aladdin's friend. Let's call him John. And he's in the middle.
And they... They're all having friend time? That sounds fine.
So they're all on the magic carpet experiencing a whole new world together, like all three. Like they might be falling in love.
All three of them?
All three of them.
Like, imagine, like, if Timon and Pumbaa. Yeah, I love them. Oh, my God. If the only time they were. I can see what's happening. They ain't got a clue. What? So, like, basically. So, basically, like. And here's the bottom line.
They could watch Simba swim in the pool and then kind of jerk each other off while they were doing that.
Because otherwise, if Simba's not around, they fight each other.
Yeah, that's more the energy.
I think that's a good one.
Not really seeing it because, of course, Simba would go swimming a lot. I mean, there's a classic scene in Lion King 1 1⁄2 where literally they're helping raise Simba.
Oxymoron, classic scene in Lion King 1 1⁄2.
Sorry.
Okay, this is a guy majoring in arts and letters. This is a doctor.
That was catty as hell.
That was catty.
So catty.
I mean, I love my regulars. Of course, they only go by their titles. We have the governor. We have the doctor. We have the count. We have the duke.
Such a good crowd you get. They're so wonderful.
Wow.
I am begging them to buy beer at Jumbo's because it's making my job hard. They get so many seltzers. And the bar's.
Getting a little pissed.
Yeah.
Well, you can definitely tell who's there for trivia and definitely tell who's there for jumbos.
And the two factions are not happy that the other is there.
No, they're not loving it.
A good bar trivia host... dances with the bartender. It's a delicate dance. And it's a back and forth. It's making sure one and the other aren't taking over.
It's symbiotic. And we're grateful.
We tip your bartenders, please pay them, pay them. But at the end of the day, you have to remember, we are strangers to them and they do not like us in their space. And very frequently, the setup that they have to do to put a bartender trivia situation in the middle of the bar ruins the layout of the bar. So you kind of see these people that have built these tracks, their footprints, it might as well be like the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. These waiters have these tracks they've been going, and all of a sudden there's a table in their way. It's like when you put your finger in the middle of an ant line.
These waiters are lost, they're scared, they're confused, and they get hit.
But we bring the people. You can't make their problems, we bring people.
We bring people.
Here's a bar trivia question.
The amount of kids I bring to bars.
Never mind.
Sorry, don't go.
No, sorry, I said it way too quietly.
No, I wanted to hear it.
I'm sorry.
You can say it. Layla.
No, I'm sorry.
No, Layla.
I'm sorry.
Layla, what's going on?
No, I'm sorry.
You're a badass bitch.
I just feel like I took up space and I interrupted you, and that's not being a badass bitch.
You are a badass bitch.
Layla.
You're literally my favorite badass bitch. What?
What?
What?
What?
What? What? Why is Salmo getting all ooh-ooh over there?
He's getting all ooh-ooh.
I wish I could tell her, but I can't.
Wait, why is he? Wait, all of a sudden.
Shoot him.
All of a sudden, you're becoming one of those claymation people.
Doing what?
Why are you doing all that? I wish I could tell her. I can't.
This is like you're posing. You're posing.
What are you doing? She'll never know.
You're doing some stupid thing.
What are you doing? What am I doing? This is acting like he's in an anime. I've seen this. No, I'm not.
I just have something in my heart that I wish I could tell my friend, but I can't.
This is crazy. You're being crazy.
And you're a badass bitch and don't let anybody else tell you that.
Guys, this is like the best group of people in the world.
Literally, think of a better group of people quick three two one i'll give you a million.
Okay those all would qualify.
Okay what was your question though oh my question was What do you guys do about cheaters?
No. Oh, my gosh. Oh, my God.
What do you do when it's clear? A, like, how do you spot somebody who is clearly.
On their phone?
Yes.
AI has genuinely made bar trivia a lot harder.
Google Gemini wants bar trivia done.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It's... It's not the fun, guys. It's like if you came to win, then that's not the point.
We're supposed to be having fun.
And what's fun for everyone that goes to bar trivia is inherently feeling better than everyone else. And so if you use computers and stuff, it kind of really is the fun.
Just not the vibe.
It's not really the vibe.
If you're winning with computers, why are you even showing up? Just go home and search some questions or something like that.
It's not the spirit.
You should just give them my speech and then I'm done.
What's your speech?
Get up!
Get the fuck out! And I was wondering, can I ask, how are they cheating in charades?
I can tell.
You can tell.
You can tell.
You can tell? What are they doing? I can tell.
Filming you?
I can tell that they look over my shoulder. Or I walk in, sometimes they push me down to the ground, they take my bag, and they find the answer.
Oh, okay.
So they're like assaulting.
And robbing you.
Get out!
And then, you know, probably for you, the meta glasses has been really hard.
Oh, my God.
The amount of times I'm doing a full dance routine trying to describe, like, I don't know, Forrest Gump.
And somebody in meta glasses goes, Forrest Gump.
It takes a photo?
Yeah.
And then out of context, I look like an idiot online.
That's the worst, dude.
That's the worst. Oh, I hate that for you. Oh, God, I'm pissed.
That was fun, wasn't it?
Hopefully.
Yeah.

If you like seeing us in characters, imagine seeing us as real people.
Talk about, like, everyday stuff, like what we ate for lunch.
Back episodes and all the fun stuff. Come join, y'all. See ya.
It's $ 3. We're going to put the link in the bio.
It's also more than $ 3.
There's $ 3, there's $ 5, and there's $ 10. And for $ 10, you could tell us what to order each other for coffee. And that's complicated, but you'll get it when you get there.
There's a lot of internal stuff going on there.
You're going to have to kind of wade through probably two months of inside jokes to understand it.
But if you want to join a community of people who also listen to the pod and have friends online, join the pod. Patreon.com.
We're never going to use that.
What else are your guys' biggest pet peeves when you're doing the job?
When somebody comes in to bash Disney, like when they don't get what it's about, like the life, it just pisses me off. Like a lot of these people that are just Marvel people, I'm like, Oh, yeah.
It's so much more than that. That's how I feel about Da Vinci heads. I'm like, have you heard of Michelangelo? It's like there's so much more to it. There's so much more.
That's what I'm saying. It's like, get out of your narrow lane. People get really upset when I stop asking Marvel and start asking Disney. And these guys are like, more Marvel, more Marvel.
And I'm like, bro.
And it's happened with Star Wars too.
This happens all the time now with Star Wars. And I'm like, bro.
Do you ever feel the pressure that you as a Disney host have such a big tent now that you can't really please everybody?
It's impossible.
If Disney buys one more IP, I'm going to do something crazy. I'm going to do something really bad and crazy.
They should hear that.
It's a lot of stuff for you to work on. It's a lot of stuff for you to know.
And I just like, don't want you to share like, That's so sad that you have to carry that load.
How has this affected your relationships with other human beings and people and love interests?
Um.
Oh, you're talking about people we talk to outside of trivia?
Yeah, like people when you talk to them, you're not trying to get them to know something or see if they know something.
Just kind of communicate with people. Yeah, I'm sorry.
I'm trying to like, because I know there are. I'm just trying to, I'm racking my brain for people I'm talking to outside of trivia.
Like, I guess waiters? Oh, waiters.
I mean, that's always a tough one because sometimes they're like, You're like, where did this lasagna come from?
Yeah.
And they're like, probably Italy. And then you're like, wrong, actually.
Yeah.
Literally.
And then you hit them with it.
Yeah.
Sometimes I'm like, I'm trying to make you hit it with the correct answer.
Yeah.
You're trying to let you out.
So I'm going to act out what I'm ordering. And they get annoyed.
Yeah.
And I'm like, I'm trying to give you some fun. I'm trying to tip you.
Can you act out what you just ordered recently and see if we can guess it?
Food.
Corn.
No, two words.
Food, two words. I didn't know that this was the charade set for food. One word. Two words. First word. Okay. Coffee. Ambivalent. Scared.
Scared.
Boys. What are you going to do?
Second word.
We didn't get the first one. Banana boat.
Ice cream sundae.
Crescent. Crescent.
Salad.
Circle.
They really are.
Nachos? Bowl nachos? First word. First word. Back to the first word. Tiny. Tiny. Little.
Rice.
Little spaghetti. Little raviolis.
Eat.
Crunchy.
Eat crunchy.
Potato.
I'm shutting down.
Okay, what was it? Oh, buzzer meaner.
Is it acai bowl?
Acai bowl? Acai bowl. So your act out for acai was.
Hey, what word was this? What word was?
It was like acai.
Acai!
I genuinely try to do charades for acai bowl.
Acai bowl? You could have picked any, I guess this is what you ate recently.
Yeah, you didn't want to lie.
But try to do it, it's really hard. Okay, okay, I'll go.
Ready?
Two words. First word. Everything.
Two words.
Everything?
Everything bagel? Okay.
Okay, banana, banana, and that's in the... Okay, banana, and that's in the bowl.
In the bowl.
Yep.
Yeah.
Scoop it. Acai bowl. Scoop.
See, but you guys know what acai is.
It was so much easier that time.
Why is it easier that time?
It's so much easier.
It's not fair.
That, if I had one note for charades, knowing what it is going on makes it.
A lot more fun.
Maybe I should do that.
You should tell me what you're doing.
Maybe that's why people push me down to get the list.
Yeah, you should tell me what you're doing.
Guys, this is the Best time of our lives. Layla, I literally couldn't agree more. Do you guys ever feel like that?
Can I ask a genuine question about hosting?
Yeah.
Do you guys ever get the two-thirds slump when you just get so tired?
Two-thirds?
Two-thirds.
Two-thirds of the way through hosting.
Two-thirds of the way through hosting. You just go like, all right, guys, I'm going to play some songs. Name the music or something like that.
And you just go. You just go and name it.
Sometimes you just go, yeah, we're doing a song challenge. We're doing an image challenge. I don't want to speak right now. I don't want to speak right now. It's going to be quiet time in your groups. Please no talking.
Have you guys ever played a movie?
Yeah.
I'll play a movie and I'll say, guess the movie.
You play the movie and.
Then guess the movie.
And you have to think of the title of the movie.
Fast forward past the movie title and I'll be like, guess the movie.
You fast forward. So you don't, you close your eyes, fast forward past the title and then you go. Open your eyes, guess the movie.
They watch the whole movie and then at the end, the first person to guess the movie wins.
So you can't answer until credits roll?
When I get really bored, I just start saying guess the job and I point at different.
People in the restaurant.
That's good.
Yeah, if there's like a girl bartender, then it's like bartender, you know what I mean?
I get subjective too.
Well, I'll show a painting or a sculpture or something from Rembrandt or whatever and then I'll just be like, What's their deal? And then I'll just kind of see what they say.
Wait, these are fun.
These are really fun.
But I want to remind you guys, just from what I've learned from my doctorate and PhD in arts and letters, you couldn't get the Renaissance without the Middle Ages, right? We were coming out of something, the Enlightenment period. So this two-thirds period, that's the Middle Ages.
It's the dark. The nothing.
The dark before the dawn.
The darkness, the dark before the dawn.
So you need that because your finale, the big ones, we always, I know we.
Have a slack just for the finale questions because we.
Build these bangers.
They're always worth more points.
Yes.
There's always 10 answers.
There's always big things. And there's always so, like they're long paragraphs.
Mm-hmm.
And there's kind of red herrings within the paragraph that are like, it's actually not about that at all. You're focusing on the wrong thing.
And mine get really, like all of a sudden it gets the hardest question you could ever answer.
Yeah, and sometimes I like to do it right when the food comes out.
Yes, exactly.
Because then it makes them really distracted.
Yeah, exactly.
Like one I did was, oh my gosh, freedom reigns. Here we go yet again. This world leader wore a Mickey Mouse hat in 1992.
Whoa.
And it's for all the points. And if they don't get it, it's game over. George H.W.
Bush?
No, you're wrong. You lost all your points.
Okay.
World leader.
Is it George Bush?
No.
No, no, no.
Gerald Ford?
No, you're wrong. You just lost all your points.
Oh my gosh.
Wow.
Can you repeat the question? I don't. I can't. It was a politician that wore a Mickey hat in 1992. Bill Clinton. No, you're wrong. You lost all your points. It was Nelson freaking Mandela. Okay.
Oh, my gosh.
Oh, my gosh.
Keyword, let freedom reign. Keyword, world leader.
Then you should have thought outside of your American-centric brain and thought in another country.
It's actually nice you have Disney-ish questions.
Yeah.
It's not all Disney. Sometimes when I get pissed off, I go, name.
Renaissance used a lot of colors.
Name as many colors as you can. That's hard.
And watch these guys scramble, write 150, 200, 300.
Colors as much as they can write. It's really fun. We had someone from Pantone there. He wrote 900 colors. No way.
That's so cool.
Whoa. I had someone from Pantone come to my trivia night.
Dude, what?
Wait.
Okay, guys, because we do trivia in Hollywood.
Most famous person to come.
Yeah, most famous person to come.
That's such a good question.
Okay, I had.
Not to brag, I had.
Are you thinking of the person?
I had. Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Oh, no, you did not.
She died.
She died.
Was it a drag queen? I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It was a drag queen named Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
When she giggles like that. Oh, my gosh. I could tell.
What?
It's happening again.
Wait.
Wait.
Guys, I have a trivia question for you. Maybe because I'm feeling sentimental.
Yeah.
It's about us.
It's us-themed trivia.
No.
Layla!
It's us-themed trivia.
You Layla!
Trivia about us?
I wrote some trivia about us. Who is the doctor who will always pick you up from the airport when you're in a bind?
Doctor?
Ding, ding, ding.
You. Oh, yeah. Yeah, you're a doctor. I'm a doctor of arts and letters. Close. A candidate. Okay.
Who is the mime who will always be a shoulder to cry on?
Me.
Robitussin. Robitussin Tessa. Yes, it's Robitussin.
Robitussin Tessa.
Who is the guy who knows everything about Disney and knows how to make me giggle loud as heck.
This might be the moment they fall in love with each other.
So, at Trivia, I've always wanted to say, there's always a will-they-won't-they couple. And I feel like they're the be-all, end-all Trivia will-they-won't-they.
Who is it?
You have to guess.
Who is it, though?
I don't know.
You have to guess. I don't know who it is, though.
You have to guess.
Who is it?
Think about it.
I already wrote a question for him and for her. And I can't be the answer to a question.
Because I wrote the questions.
And is it somebody in the room?
How is he not getting it?
And he is so clearly in love with her. He's doing all that ooh bullshit. Who could it be? I'm stumped.
Okay, maybe I'll put it in a different way.
Salmo! Salmo!
Salmo!
Who?
Who is the girl? Wait a second. Wait a second. Is this question about me?
Layla, will you make me the happiest man alive and marry me right now?
I bought a ring three years ago the first night I met you. No.
Yeah.
Three nights ago?
It's Mickey and Minnie kissing. Three years ago?
Yeah.
Mickey and Minnie kissing. Oh, my God.
It's Mickey and Minnie kissing.
She said, ah! She said, ah!
Sha-la-la-la-la-la.
Don't be shy. Oh, my God.
Kiss the girl. This is amazing.
I'm going to tell Palantir to fund the wedding.
Yes.
Oh, my gosh. Disney Palantir wedding. Disney Palantir Hawaii wedding.
Disney wedding sponsored by Palantir Hawaii.
Oh, my God.
Disney wedding sponsored by Palantir.
I've never heard anything better. Disney wedding sponsored by Palantir. You guys are all insane.
You know who's catering?
Spence! And don't book a band. I can play the liar.
Now that's why we call it show business. Live from the beautiful Dynasty Typewriter.
Our very own trivia bar. Yeah, absolutely.
Guys, go to our Patreon.
We talk about a bunch of stupid stuff, and there's cheap tiers, so go check it out now.
And we're going to reveal how this episode almost didn't happen.
I'll tell you that much.
Bye!
