All right.

Dillamas, we are back. I'm just going to make a quick little timestamp for myself. Thank you. And now we're going to be getting into some fresh news that came out today. I mean, it's not really fresh news, but there has been some humming and hawing about the Just release of Batman 2 because Matt Reeves was going through some personal stuff and then it sounded like it was going to be slowing down. And then just today it was announced that with Matt Reeves dealing with a personal matter, Steven Soderbergh is coming on to help finish production on Batman Part 2. Now, this does not mean that Matt Reeves has stepped away or anything permanently, like he is still attached to the project. even tweeted today that like

to be clear like he is still very much a part of the project which is you know great to hear obviously we hope all the best wishes for everything and everything works out well for his uh just yeah his personal matter hope thumbs up from the gv crew that should go without saying but um yeah so this is like fresh news i mean good thing out of this is like Okay, the project isn't just dead, like dead, dead, dead, because Matt Reeves is taking.

Yeah, just going to the side, I guess. So it's nice that we are still getting this project. It's nice that he is still very much a part of the project. And Steven Soderbergh is going to be coming in there. And just like Steven Soderbergh, we got another man coming in at the 11th hour. I'm just going to add them.

Well, he just adds me. What if I was butt-ass naked in here? Dylan did it to me earlier.

There's a video of you down below. I saw a butt, and I actually added him.

I'm like, let's get this live. You can't see if I'm butt-ass naked. Does that mean the full body definition? I have a.

Different camera on right now. I'm looking at my private camera that's underneath the desk.

That's for the Patreon Ultra producers. They get just a cam from above, like a bird's eye view, wearing absolutely nothing at all, no clothing whatsoever. All right, Dylan's right in this situation, so I digress.

Yes, welcome, Travis. If you missed anything at all, I just basically gave the little snippet that you read out to me. So I'm glad that you're here to fill myself in a little bit more on the details. I tried to learn more about it than I could, but I'm glad you're here.

Did you try to learn more about it? Or did you just look at the headline?

I learned who Steven Soderbergh was. I was like, okay, I got to at least know something this guy's done, I guess.

Yeah.

And... What has he done?

That Matt Reeves put out there.

Ocean's Eleven. He's done Aaron Brockovich. He's done Black Bag, which was really great last year. He did Presence, which is an interesting film. It's a whole film from the point of view of a ghost. So it's haunting the ghost in its first person point of view. He's been around since the late or early 90s, I'd say, doing stuff.

He's done Oscar winning award films. I don't think he's ever won an Oscar. I don't think so. Until now.

Damn.

Until now.

Maybe.

I don't know. It could have been for writing or something. But he has a long list of film and TV backgrounds of stuff that he's done. Oh, no. He's won an Oscar. There you go. So an Oscar winner.

What did he win an Oscar for?

Oh, I forgot. He won Best Director for Traffic, which lots of people say is his best film. I don't know if I agree. Sex, Lies, and Videotape. That's an amazing film. Lots of great stuff. Yeah. The amply shut down... hunt for Ben Solo that him and Adam Driver were trying to do. I know that doesn't count, but they were trying to do it, so.

What a great project that could have been, though. What a pairing, eh?

Him and Adam Driver. Yeah, and look what we got here. No, no, I think these guys, I just wanted to bust in, because I would have done a TTY and rant for 18 hours about Batman, as I always like to try and do, but I got sick twins. I'm fucking just cooped up here with hand, foot, and mouth. They're cranky. Oh, no.

She's got like a big chin of just rash, but I'll keep this quick so I don't disturb these guys' night, so Yeah, this happened today. First, it came out as a report from Deadline. And then Warner Brothers released a statement. I'm going to assume that Deadline had the clearance. I don't think they just announced it. And then Warner Brothers was like, oh, shit, we've got to get this out there.

I'm sure they just partnered with somebody or that would be really shitty. Most of the time, someone like Deadline would call and say, hey, we know the story. Should we run it? And they probably went, okay, you're going to run it. Let us do X, Y, and Z. WB put out a statement. And I'm not going to read the statements because that would take up time. And you guys can read them. They're all out there. And you can check out our Discord because we talk about this all day. But yeah, the idea is that there is apparently it's two, two thirds of the way are done shooting and Steven Soberg is going to be in here taking over directing duties. Now what's different and why the sky I hope isn't falling is that unlike the

Zack Snyder situation when he lost his daughter and WWE pushed him out, that was a situation where they made it look like it was like, oh, we're doing Kumbaya and like, oh, Joss is in here. They're all friendly. And then after the fact, it wasn't. Now, I will preference this with it's Hollywood, right? Even Matt Reeves' tweet, they can just be like, hey, we're not giving you any fucking money unless you, like, give this, right? There's people all, like, Ben Affleck did some of this last week and Ray Fisher. They're all like, yeah, we love Joss Whedon's Justice League when they're promoting it. And then a couple years later, it's like, oh, yeah, this guy's a piece of shit. So we really know nothing. But

all we know is what they're putting out there. He's going to shoot two to three, not two thirds. So the rumor is it's like six weeks that Matt Reeves will be, like, on a Zoom or something like that. And then Steven Soberg is going to finish this. And then the post-production, so the edit, as far as what WB and Matt Reeves said, is going back to him.

So the idea is that it should still be his. Steven put out this nice statement saying that he wants to keep the vision Matt's and do it that way. And the word is that he approached Matt. I don't know what that means. Obviously, because me and Dylan talked about this, I think it was like a week and a half ago, of course, always. A few things I've learned since that situation, it's a bad... it's not a good situation. So I don't know. I think that's the plan right now for him to do posts and everything, but I don't know how it's going to move going forward because lots of things can change. And like being done said, it doesn't really matter about like the delay.

It's just like, hopefully his whole family's good and they're dealing with something not great. So it was funny though, that when, cause when we don't do that cast still, and you're like, Oh man, like imagine if they take this break and then when they shoot it, if you're going to tell it's going to be like choppy or there's going to be differences and, We hope for the best because they're going to follow storyboards and Matt Reeves is there. And that's the thing where it's like, oh, it's a good situation that he's there. It's not like with Zach where they just pushed him out, gone. He's going to be there. But now when you brought up that concern, Dylan, that just rang my head the first time because like, you know what? No, it's like a

few weeks. It's still going to be Matt Reeves shooting or like a few weeks to months. It'll still be Matt Reeves shooting it. I'm sure it'll be fine. But now it's going to be six weeks of footage of a different guy. And like no matter what, like taking aside the most important thing with the Reeves family, with the business side of it, it is going to be interesting because no matter what you can fall storyboards and have Matt Reeves there, but it's not like he's, he's still not physically there. Right. It's not like you can, if I'm sure Dylan could tell me, and I, you know, I've had this situation before. I could tell Kirkland and Taylor to do something. And then the way they do it is completely different. Even though I give them X, Y,

and Z, look how Kirkland hosts weekly geek and look how Tara hosts weekly geek. Kirkland's like Ron Burgundy, you know? Uh, so that's where it's like, you never know. So I just found it not funny, but just ironic Dylan that you brought that up. But, um, Yeah, I guess. So I guess it just means that they're either Reeves or the studio is very set on getting this out. So it is a situation that I didn't think was going to happen. But I also thought that I guess we have the best case scenario because it's someone that's friends with Matt Reeves and he's going to be on set calling the stuff. So at least the thing is, like, I do think it's going to hit that date now.

It's just unfortunate if like, OK, first the production was delayed and now he stepped away. And I don't know if the situation is going to get better, even, like I said, the post-edit. So I don't know what's going to happen there. So Dylan, you already thought it might be kind of Frankenstein when there was maybe some break between shooting. Now you've got a new director that, sure, is going to fall. And I actually don't think he's going to go rogue. I just mean the sense of you're both not the same guys, right? You're going to do different things for sometimes, right? Yeah. Yeah, I mean, we'll see.

If it's literally the same puzzle and that one puzzle piece is switched, obviously that's a big problem. juicy puzzle piece for a movie like this. But if everything else is the same, like the same cinematographer, same la-di-da, all the people down the line, then in theory, hopefully we just don't see too much of a difference between those sequences that were filmed during that sequence or otherwise. I'm sure like after the movie comes out, there'll be some crazy YouTube breakdown of like, oh, here's the Steven Soderbergh scenes.

This is like the Matt Reeves scene. Which happened with Justice League. We even talked about that in the review, right? Like what we thought was Snyder and what we thought was Whedon at that time. And you can't help but do that, right? Because if anyone sees something where it's like, and there was times too where it was like, I remember the, it's a joke now, but the line in Justice League, the Kal-El, no. Like everybody was like, well, that's for sure not Zack's cut. And then when Justice League came out, that was in Zack's cut. So it's like, You can pick this stuff apart, but you never truly know, right?

So same thing. I might see something like, oh, that doesn't feel like Matt Reeves. And then a year later, I'm like, oh, that was completely Matt Reeves, right? So it's a weird thing now.

Yeah, I don't know. Maybe this guy also is just an amazing director for Babbitt. Maybe he'll be better than Matt Reeves. Maybe that'll be the best movie. Who knows?

We'll see. We'll see what happens.

It's hard for me to comment too much on him actually feeling, because you listed off all these movies. I don't think I've seen A single one of this guy's movies. Maybe Ocean's Eleven, I guess, I've seen. But that's maybe it.

Well, Logan, luckily, I thought, did you see Logan Lucky or no?

What movie?

Logan, I screwed up twice. Logan Lucky. Okay, I've seen that too. Adam Driver, Daniel Craig, yeah, he did that in 2017. I just remember because we talked about that on the pod, and I think we never reviewed it, but we kind of saw it different times. So you've seen that.

Maybe I've seen a couple things. uh okay and i i like those movies so that's that's cool but it's hard for me to know if that'll be make him a good fit for a really complicated situation like this because that's hard for everybody not just the directors but obviously everyone on on set who's used to working on the reeves and all.

That yeah and it's like a big budget movie too too right it's not like a like a little indie movie almost done like a little indie movie and everything like that.

No, you're staying here.

Sorry, I'm podcasting for another three hours. No, it's a big thing to take on, right? It's not like, hey, you guys are in a room, you're filming some dialogue scenes, like here's the Batmobile, and here's him fighting like Two-Face, and we don't know what's left to shoot, right? Maybe it is that stuff. Maybe they just like went, hey, we shot all the big stuff, we have passing, and the road's running away from police. It's just going to be him in the courtroom. We can do that. Or if it's, I don't know. But yeah, I forgot to mention what you said, Dylan, there was, yeah, Soderbergh is like, He is a really good choice. And again, we don't know what's true. Maybe he knows about this personal situation,

did offer it up. Or I'm not sure if Warner Brothers was like, hey, we do have to do something, but we would like you to pick the person. So if there's any friends out there, you'd be good thinking about. And I do wonder now if he kind of does them a solid. Like, it's kind of funny that he was both his like toe dips into big franchise stuff was like, OK, they're making the Kylo Ren movie. And then Disney says, no, you're not doing that. And now it's like, well, he's making his first ever comic book movie, but it's like shooting just a third of that. Right.

But I do wonder if he does well. And this all floats, you know, kind of nicely to the ground. If he kind of has like a like something else at DC. Right. Because like at the end of the day, the hope is that it turns out well. Then he does gun DC and Matt Reeves like a huge solid. Right. Like obviously he's getting paid and everything, but it's a huge salt to come here. And if it lands, because if it comes in. And if it sucks, I know people are going to point the finger and be like, oh, well, it was all Matt Reeves, right? But if it's great, they'll be like, oh, look at this combo. And it's happened both ways. With Just League, it sucked. But again, no one talks about this because it was a good example.

Everyone says, oh, give freedom to the directors. But then everyone, I've said this example many times, loves Rogue One. That's a movie that halfway through, they took away from the director, gave to Tony Gilroy and said, can you fix this? And then he did. Everyone loves Rogue One. Or, you know, not everyone, but a lot of people do. Yeah, I know. We...

We have some different opinions on it here. But that's where it's like there are countless examples that we probably don't even know of, right, of this happening. Obviously, this is just a public one because this movie's been delayed a bunch of times. But Kirkland, you got any thoughts?

Yeah. I mean, hopefully it is the situation that we started talking about, that it is just a perfect example of it working out. And not just in the sense of like maybe. He was picked because he's a really good task man. He can just take the task that Matt Reeves has given to him and he's just going to execute. He's not going to be like, well, okay. People also say he's not a big eagle guy. See, that's super important, right?

Imagine if they're like, oh, what Matt Reeves said. It's like, oh, you don't worry what Matt Reeves said. Matt Reeves talks to me and then you talk.

To me, okay?

You don't want one of those two.

That's supposedly what happened to Joss Whedon because him and Gal Gadot got in fights because he wanted to do that scene, remember, where the flash landed on her chest and she's like, I'm not doing this. And he said, no, you're fucking doing this. And then they eventually... got the stunt double to do it, but that was a weird situation too, which I don't think they want, but like you said, that could easily happen. But the word is that he's, he's not that, at least the reports say that, and a lot of insiders say like, he's not an ego guy. And again, he hasn't worked much in big blockbusters, so that could help, you know?

But also if he's like, you know, good friends with Matt Reeves and like his closer finger to the pulse, the situation that it's like, I actually want to do this to help out my friend or whatever. So it's like, I hopefully that is the angle that it is at. And, uh, Yeah, like I do hope this project hits and is amazing.

I feel like even if this is like really good, there will still be that discussion of like, well, what would have the full Reeves version would have been, right? Like without him coming in.

But I don't know.

Hopefully it is just like a net positive across the board. Hopefully, you know, obviously all the stuff with Matt Reeves' family or just his situation in general just gets... Resolved in all the best ways. Thumbs up there, hopefully. Yeah.

Only thing I'll address is just this comment, and then I'll skip out of here. DWS says, regardless, I do think this will affect Skydance's decision on whether they feel comfortable letting Reeves first continue after this. I said this before this last delay. I said this now before Soderbergh gone there. Don't expect Batman 3. I'm telling everybody, have the mindset that we got Batman 2, and if we get that, we're very lucky to get that. Especially with these rumors that they're casting a Batman to be in Superman, which is in July. That's not that far away. So I do think they are. I'm not saying they're going to end it where they're going to kill off Bruce Wayne and this movie. But I I I don't think

a part three is going to happen unless it's massive. Right. If it makes a bunch of like you'll make a bunch of money. But I mean, like a massive amount, like a billion dollars, like bigger than the first one. Then, sure, there's a conversation there. But also, again, too, we don't know what's going to happen with Reeves. And same thing.

It might be to finish this. But if something happens or maybe even with all this project, you might go, you know what? After all these delays, all this hubbub, I don't really want to do a part three. Leave it where it lies. I know it started as a trilogy, but not everything happens. Again, referring back to that situation, Zack Snyder pitched WB on a five-film thing, and they only got to three. And they were happy with it until they weren't. So things change. There's multiple orders now.

Was that Rebel Moon?

No, no. It was supposed to be the two movies and then a Justice League trilogy. That was supposed to be the idea.

Was there supposed to be more Rebel Moons, though?

And that got, well, yeah, that got taken out too.

Yeah.

So it's got, it's stack has a lot of those things, unfortunately that like don't come to pass, but again, it's new owners and, uh, you know, it, you never know what's happened. So, uh, yeah, Matt, he says we've come a long way from Matt Reese, scrapping the trilogy for catching Robin's on the Batmobile. Yeah, man, there's a lot of stuff and yeah, maybe one day we'll hear it happens, but yeah, honestly, of course the best is hopefully with the family. That's all that matters. This was the movie, just a movie, whatever. But, um, I thank you guys for letting me on here, ranting for a little bit, filling in there.

I'll edit this out after. Just have Dylan and I conversation.

How does it feel to be a whaler for 20 minutes?

Yeah. It feels good. It feels good. I can feel the whales in my bloodstream already. I know it's not those type of whales, but that's what I'd like.

This guy doesn't know anything about whale oil.

No. One day. I do have a backlog list, and Dishonored is on there, and Deathloop, because Dylan talks so highly of it. And I'm sure.

Amazing.

Amazing.

I can't remember what else.

I'm physical.

I can actually lend it to you.

Oh, I don't do physical. No, I don't know what else. Oh, no, it's like Nathan for you. I know Dylan's telling me the truth that I will enjoy and like these games. And eventually I got Nathan for you and I was like, you're absolutely right. So eventually I will be a whaler one day, but today's not that day. I'm just a clown for the podcast. And I'm out of here. Have a good night, guys. Bye, Travis.

Good night.

Oh, fuck off. Oh, no!
