I said my son wanted to be Angel Reese.
It's crazy.
But there's an Angel Reese build in your house and it's your daughter playing 2K.
Aye.
No, they watch this shit.
You know they watch this shit. He should be in school. Let's move on anyway.
So he's not? Yes.
You act like they can't have phones now in school. So Gil, question for you. Shout out to We Said What We Said. Shout out Melly. The rest of the team over there doing great work. People looking for Swaggy, actually. Swaggy, I got a call from one of my sources that said people have been looking for you. They know where you live. Who want me? They just said they know where you live. That's all I'm going to tell you.
Let you know. So be mindful. Man, better have a taser. Be mindful. I got a gate.
I got a gate. I got a gate. I got a gate.
They got the clicker. They have befriended security at your gated community. Well, I'm your brother, bro.
Who is this?
And I'm just pointing it out. Like, you know, I'm, I'm happy. But anyway, Gil back to Yaxo, 24 years old. I know black Yaxo. I know black Lindenburg. Uh, is Yaxo showing teams to start reconsidering drafting older rookies or is he an anomaly? I said it again with that second word. Or is he an anomaly?
Yes.
There you go. That's a big word.
Cause he's the only, he's the only 24 year old that's averaging 22 outside of Dave Robinson.
Um, All the other teams that.
Drafted Oda, those guys haven't panned out. So the fact that they recognized it, I remember somebody, I don't know, it was one of somebody in.
Our chat said, dang, that's a steal. You know what I mean? I'm going with history. Like, I got to see it first.
So me just tracking how he plays is like, okay, he can make up. So like next year, next year comes, he's going to be referred to his class, like his draft, you know, his age class. Which, as I said, right now, he's up there with his class like nothing's ever happened. You don't want to be, as a 24-year-old.
Tracking like a rookie.
So next year you're at 25 and you're the same as a second-year player. Like, no, you got to make that jump, and he's made that jump. Like, so this was an amazing pick. Like, you have a 24-year-old guy who's a rookie but not playing like a rookie, but he's playing like a top-five player in his age group. Right?
So he's still, like, he's technically a franchise guy. Averaging 22, 9, and 4. But you don't think he'll get rookie of the year? With those numbers, it's right now him and Cam Boozer.
Okay.
We think the NBA is going to hate because he's older. I don't know.
Are there numbers in Caleb Wilson? They got Caleb third. I thought they had Caleb second. They got Yaxel second. Larry Bird, shit.
They got Yaxel second.
21, 21, 22.
That was a different time.
They got Yaxel at two.
So Boozer averaging 15 and 11. Who the fuck first?
Boozer. Boozer. He's all in though.
Which is weird, yeah. He balling better than you. Caleb Wilson averaging 21-7.
Who averaging 21-7?
Caleb Wilson.
Yeah.
But that's what they said. They got it on the curve. I mean, shit, AJ just came in, 19 first game. Patrick Ewing?
Yeah, I know.
Huh? Patrick Ewing? Patrick Ewing.
He was 23.
That's a different time, though. That was four-year college, guys.
Yeah.
Back in those days, that.
Was the standard. It's on the curve still, but as long as he's doing what he's doing right now, He's a max player. There's no need to try to mess with him. As long as he's playing the way he's playing, you can build a team around him.
So safe to say that the Warriors got a good one with Yaxel, but let's talk about the state of that franchise. A lot of issues going on behind the scenes. So during a recent interview with the Ringers, Logan Murdoch, Kerr had this to say about the state of the team and the prospects of trying to make some big swings to keep Steph's championship window open in his final years.
This is coming from Steve Kerr. Via the ringer, he said, Our fan base might have been thrilled if we had traded five firsts and two of our better players for one of the big fish. They might have been happy for a year, and they might have been miserable for the next decade if it backfired. This is coming from Steve Kerr. So Kerr also spoke about the big moves the Warriors did make, landing Jimmy Butler from the heat before the trade deadline in 2025, saying, quote, When we made that move, we felt great. We go and beat Houston in the first round of the 2025 playoffs. We beat Minnesota in game one. And then Steph pulls his hamstring.
So now we have to look at this rationally. Do we throw away our entire future to build around a 39-year-old Steph? He turns 39 in March, right? Does it make sense now to throw away all those picks? Hell no.
Yes, the fuck it do.
Hell no.
Hell no.
Hell no.
You say no? Hell no.
So why would you mention championship window with Steph if you're not willing to go?
No, that was just a question. That was just, like, I'm questioning. Championship window? Like, that championship window was over. Steph's still great. My brother just had 44 last night.
You know what I'm saying?
It's open now with the people on the team. Just two of the people that keeps it open aren't healthy. If Jimmy's there and you have Porzingis, you don't... You got to remember, your picks is your picks still. But if you're saying, hey, I got to get rid of one of those guys, like I got to go get somebody, then I got to throw in extra picks, that if Steph is only here two more years at 41... and I gave it with all my future picks, I have nothing for a decade.
I'm done.
I mean, they acting like it's guaranteed that you're going to go get another Steph.
That's how the NBA works.
No, no, no. I mean, I'm not going to get another Steph, but he's 39.
He's still great.
I know.
I know.
The hardest part of the league is finding a foundational piece.
Yeah, he ain't the foundation no more.
Yes, he is. They just extended him. He's still.
Yes, he is. He's not like... Just like LeBron. There's really nothing we can do. You're still great at this time, but when we're thinking about five-year plans.
You ain't going.
To be there. I mean, 43? Like, am I really building my team off this? So I have to look at, like, they should just trade him. Nah, nah, nah.
You can't say Steph still has a championship window, but then say in the same breath, I'm not willing to give up the future for him. So it's either you have a window or you don't, or if you don't feel like you do, let him go.
Be great somewhere else. That's what I feel like, too.
You just sitting there letting them ride away for some future.
Picks that you don't know what's going to, you have no clue what that's going to be. And it's not guaranteed you're going to get a Steph, Clay, Draymond, Katie.
Or whatever the case may be.
It ain't like they got a great history of fucking drafting anyway.
Whoa, I do.
I got Steph, Clay, Draymond. That was Bob Myers. That was Bob Myers. Yeah, that was Bob. I know, I know. Since Bob has left, it's been all downhill.
Wait, no, no, no.
Wait, Bob got Kaminga, right?
Yeah. And Poo. Huh? And Poo.
He drafted him, right?
So Dunleavy's only draft pick is Jackson.
And who? Who's last year?
Nah, nah, nah.
That's not the only one.
Nah. What?
Santos? Didn't they draft Santos?
Like, who was drafted last year?
He drafted Paz.
Paz.
Somebody say Paz.
That ain't the only draft pick. This is the only good one. He's only had, what, two drafts?
Mm-hmm.
He did the trade for Chris Paul.
Then Quinn imposed too, but let me see. He's gone now.
Okay.
But there's nothing. What's the other kid? TJD or whatever. He's gone now too. He gone too. Yeah, but I know what y'all said. I get it.
I get what y'all saying, what I should do. What I'm not going to do is trade Seth. That's what I'm not going to do. I'm not saying get rid of all the picks.
All I'm saying is you can't say those two things all in the same statement. That don't make sense. It's either it's a championship window for Steph or it's not.
It's not.
Get off of him. He's a champion.
If you're worried about your future right now with Steph, trade Steph.
Go get your fucking draft.
Picks and start to rebuild. For sure. You could.
If that's what you're worried about with Steph Curry in your locker room after a fucking extension, get rid of him.
Because that don't make sense. I know, but I don't have to. That's the thing. You don't. But don't sit here and say this dumbass shit. He sells tickets. He's the man.
He sells tickets.
So, like, I'm a businessman. You know why he sells tickets?
Because he's great. You can get him.
You can get him.
A lot of shit for Steph.
Nigga, I just, the two people I got to help, not you. You paid five, too. I went and got Jimmy Butler. I went and got Jimmy Butler. I went and got Porzingis. Both those guys is out. I'm not going to get nobody else.
Nobody told you to go get Porzingis. I know you didn't tell me.
I went and tried it. Even with Porzingis, like. the team would have been better.
It's still not guaranteed.
I know it ain't, but I'm closer.
Even if Porzingis were healthy, that didn't make me feel like, oh, shit, they got.
A chance to win it. But what I'm saying is think about it.
If Jimmy's there and Porzingis is there, we have the Axel there. Now, when you're saying give some picks away, I have enough here where I can go get one move and I'm championship, right?
I got to get a whole fucking new team still. Like, I got to get multiple pieces.
I got to trade away a lot of pieces to bring in people.
You should have did that shit. All them wasted draft picks. All them wasted draft picks.
Them motherfuckers, they should have been shipping off. I can tell you. I can tell you. Because them draft picks ain't turning shit.
No, no, no.
But I traded them. I traded them and got Jimmy Bull in them. Right now, if I'm OKC, I'm looking at Golden State Warriors and say, hey, what'd you need?
How many picks you need? Give me Yaxel. That's not happening. Think about your future, player.
I just told you they only have one good pick in the last couple.
That's not happening.
Think about your future, player. Remember, I got all the eggs and all the talent. I want Yaxel. I can get you back to the promised land. I can give you three first rounds. You can use that when Steph is gone in two years, when Steph is gone in two.
Years, and there's a draft class that comes to you. I like Axel.
Okay.
Yeah, give me.
I can't see going back doing that.
Give me Axel. I don't care who you want.
You want the big man? I can eat a big man.
Yeah, this is the one that kind of like.
I know, but trust me.
You're looking at your draft picks.
You're looking at stuff like Steph 41.
It's like, really, how many years is he going to be the dominant Steph? Because at 41, if I'm still relying on him as my best player, what else do I have? Right? That's why when you're looking at LeBron, it's like, yeah, LeBron is LeBron.
But if LeBron is.
Doing all the heavy lifting at 40 and 41, your team sucks.
What do Miami got to trade? Nigga, we've been watching them. Nothing.
They got nothing.
They have nothing.
They got players that are sitting there.
Like, who of my players is over there? Like, I don't want back Wiggins. There's no way they're keeping Bam if they trying to get Steph. Like, we talking about Steph.
They ain't got a pick.
I got Wiggins.
Listen, I got Wiggins and Cleo with it. Y'all just always want to play with the nigga. Why you ain't go to Golden State, dude?
You want back Jimmy? Like, I know. Like, it's, it's, it's, it's. Where can Steph go? What I'm saying is, poor Zingas and Russell ain't messed him up.
Where can Steph go?
That's what I'm saying.
Game changer.
You can go wherever you want to, sir, but you're not going nowhere.
I'm just saying. Your ass is retiring here. And Houston got two first-round picks. That's super valuable.
You retiring here. I'm going to hit them with the legacy.
Hey, all the legacy players. Well, Steph has already said that. I'm a warrior's life. All the legacy players retired.
They got drafted. They retired. They never touched another jersey. Don't you want to be in that?
That's a little.
All that's fine. All I'm saying is it's not like Steph is like... saying he's not at the stage in his career where he just wants to chill and help the young guys. That's not where he's at. The motherfucker had 44 last year. He's still running around like a damn 21-year-old kid. He still has a lot of greatness in front of him. All I'm saying is, if you're going to say it's a championship window with Steph, you can't talk about your future in the same breath. We got to focus on this championship window. Them picks mean nothing.
What are your chances of getting another Steph Curry?
Never. So why are we worried about the future?
Because I still need what two more years to try to build the team with Vegas if.
They doing it again What they gonna say next when I'm saying cuz I can't trade Jimmy a year old all we go We still worry about no pigs.
No, what I can't trade Jimmy Butler right now.
That's I got money tied up I can't trade poor Zingas right now.
So the people that I would try to trade to bring in I can't.
So I still got this money tie So who am I actually trading that has value.
That somebody's gonna want?
Draymond green like Or Yaxel.
Yaxel is the only person that would demand, like people are going.
To look at him and say, you know what?
I can use him right now.
They did all that, signed all these people, all these extensions, and there's no value.
Yeah. It goes to show how awful of a job they're doing around Steph.
Yeah.
All it is. All these motherfuckers getting paid and you ain't got no value? Okay, but you got a rookie on an extension deal.
No value?
But you have to look at reality.
Reality is this group, Steph, KD, LeBron, like even James Harden, no one's been that good this long in their career. So when you're talking about.
History, these guys.
Are on a backseat chilling. The Dirt and the Winsteads, the KGs, like those guys are in the backseat. The team sucks, right? We're in this little rebuilding mode. They're finishing off their career, right? You know, we're talking, hey, you still got one more year?
None of them are scoring 44. I know, but that's what I'm saying.
You're sitting there talking to them like, hey, you still want to, you know, but we already made the.
Descent, right? So now it's like, oh, shit, I got.
To rebuild because he's still playing at a high level. We wasn't ready to do that.
We thought you was.
Yeah.
We thought you was like ready to ready to go.
No, but it was a huge difference in what they look like and what Steph look like I know when them dudes was at the end of their careers We weren't having conversations about a championship window Durkin in his career.
He was riding off in a sunset.
Mm-hmm Most of them got him trying to get to a certain number of years in a career.
Mm-hmm 44 last night.
He gonna have 44 tomorrow cuz there ain't no help coming.
Oh They ain't no help. Think about it. They would have had Poole, Kaminga. Yeah, but that's what I'm saying.
They have self-sabotaged everything. Think about that lineup.
It's not. Yes, it is.
You can look at that today you can that they messed up then, but you have to think three years ago. They just finished coming off a championship, right? So they're like, oh shit, we can probably start up another.
Three, right?
If we just one run right now, Klay's not even healthy.
He's going to come back. We got these draft picks. We bringing them in. And then it's like, okay, what do we do? We don't need young right now. So let's go get someone that's a veteran that can add. So what they were doing is because Steph, Klay, and Draymond was still actually playing very well, they used those young guys to bring in veterans, right?
Now those veterans, how old is Klay? 36, 7, 8?
I think Klay younger than Jimmy.
I think he's like 34, but let me double check for you. 36? Oh, shit.
37 February.
How old is Jimmy? Because you can't get rid of Klay because of age and then go pick up Jimmy. 37. Well, technically.
Technically.
You traded Jordan Poole for 39-year-old Chris Paul.
See?
Come on, bro.
They had self-sabotage themselves. But as I said, they were trying to bring in the veterans. All the young talent you had, you found a way to ruin it. Yeah, but as I said, they're trying to build for stepping. They already tried it, and it all failed. So we're not going to do that shit again. The point I'm trying to make is how you move to now. Now you're concerned about fucking draft picks when you have nothing but a history of failings.
Yes.
How was that a concern?
Because it's like I had the glass was half filled. I spilt the shit.
Right. So it's half gone. And then I still got half left. I'm not going to pour no more out.
I got it. I got it.
I got it. Ain't no more coming. God damn it.
I got it.
I'm going to drink.
I'm going to walk around with a half cup. Half cup.
What that do?
Huh?
What's that do for you? I'm not thirsty. This shit about to be sad. I'm not thirsty. Like right now, hey, Steph, listen. I tried, man. We tried. We tried to go get Chris Paul.
Like I said.
We tried to go get Jimmy.
Let's get some draft picks for Steph. If this is the language and the energy around these champions, we're wasting time.
Let's just go ahead and.
Start the rebuild now.
We got our first good draft pick. We're going to start building around him now. Give us all draft picks. That's where they should be now.
For sure.
But these two don't retire.
They still have more to give. I know they do. I know they do.
If they were in the mindset of Draymond and them, these type, I mean, not Draymond, Dirk and those guys at the end of their career, These type of conversations aren't even being had. We're not talking about a championship window. We're talking about how much we enjoy these guys within the organization. How are we going to celebrate them on their way out? That's what the conversation will be. You started off by saying championship window around stuff. Then by the end of the statement is we're worried about our future.
I'm lost. I don't know what you want to do. The problem is I don't know what championship.
No, no, no, no.
I don't know where the championship window is.
There hasn't been no championship window in the last three years.
It depends.
What I'm saying is.
When they get to the playoffs, they get dangerous. What I'm saying is everything they've... No, Steph gets dangerous.
That's what I'm saying. Everything they've done... Because he's great. was to try to capitalize. Like, you really have to look at the moves they made.
The moves.
Bringing CP with Steph, you thought it was going to work. You got rid of this person. Who the fuck thought that? You brung Jimmy Butler in. You just tried to get Poole out of here.
You brung in, what's his name? That was a lazy ass job. You just went and did something.
Poole for fucking.
Chris Paul as a backup making $ 40 million?
How the fuck that go for that? For one year?
Who trades for a $ 40 million backup? They did. Because they're dumb.
But that's what I'm saying. So you want them to keep being dumb. And they're like, we don't want to be dumb no more.
No, what I want them to do is fuck them draft picks and figure out how to get help around Steph.
Fuck them draft picks. But that's the problem.
If you're calling me dumb for trying that, I don't want.
To be dumb no more. You're still being dumb by not being dumb. Nah, I was dumb all right. I was dumb that way. I done fucked up. I tried to get Christmas. Nigga, be yourself. I did myself. I tried to get Chris Paul.
I used some.
That didn't work. I did Jimmy Butler. Traded some good... My young pieces. That shit didn't work. I went and got Porzingis for.
My young pieces. That shit didn't work.
Right?
I traded. I didn't sign Clay.
That shit didn't work. So everything I tried didn't work. So right now, I ain't trying shit. I'm not doing nothing.
I'm just going to sit here, score 30, 40, all you want. You retire when you want, deal with government.
You did something.
You paid Paz to 100 and something. I had to. What else the fuck I got?
I got nothing.
Look at my team. Shit, that money could have went somewhere else.
When we really say, why is Paz playing? When we look at Paz and we be like, yo, Paz and shit, and you look at the lineup, you be like, Okay, there's really nothing else over here.
All right, well, let's keep this thing moving. Talk about more positive situations. I could have. And see who else is going to pay my honey. Nobody. Nobody. That's what I'm saying. So the A.J. DeBonsa era officially begun in Washington. Number one pick did not disappoint after missing the Wizards' first four games with an ankle injury. DeBonsa made his NBA debut against the Cavs, giving the team and fans reason for optimism. Look to take off the shackles of being an NBA bottom feeder to be a sleeper in the East. Let's take a look at the Wizards highlights if we can, please. So DeBonsa hit two free throws to start the game, but his first NBA bucket was the first of what should be many alley-oops from Trae Young.
Shout out to A.J. DeBonsa. DeBonsa. DeBonsa.
Hey!
A.J.
Scored nine points in the first quarter, helping Washington explode for 42 points. in that opening period on the Cavs. The Wizards led by as much as 13 in the game, but ended up tricking off that lead as the Cavs rallied in the fourth quarter to get the win. DeBonson finished with 19 points on 8 for 12 shooting, which is the most points by a Wizards rookie in his NBA debut since 1992. Anthony Davis and Alex Saar both added 18. Trey Young had 14 in 8 dimes. So on the Cavs side, Evan Mobley led the Cavs with 24 points and 12 boards. Pate Watson... Added 22 on 9 and 17 shooting. But this was A.J. 's night.
We weren't really concerned about the score or the game. Good to see him out there. Like I said, missed the first four games with that ankle injury. Was just excited to be on the floor with his team. Looking good out there. That's what I'm talking about. There we go, A.J. So Washington may have lost the game, but A.J. DeBonsa just gave the Wizards fans a glimpse of the future. Gil, I see you rocking the Wizards jersey today with the logo covered up, as you tend to do. But what did A.J. DeBonsa show you in his NBA debut? Why he was the number one pick, right? He's, it looks like he got taller. I mean, hair.
Like, you knew he was very skilled. Like, you can see it in college. He led college in scoring for a reason. And that's a compacted lane. So, here he's a 3-4-2, right? One-on-one, one-on-one type of guy. Plays hard, right? So, just putting him in an NBA setting. 19, I think this was, is this the best rookie outing?
For the Wizards?
No, just... First game? Like, for every game.
Hell no. 19? Yeah. It has to be a top five. 19 first? First game as a Rook? Number one pick or whatever? Uh-uh. He has to be up there. I say LeBron had 20 his first game. Are you talking about amongst rookies this year? LeBron had 20 against the Kings.
I know Cooper Flagg, he didn't have... But this is his first outing. He led all rookies this season with 19 points. Let me see.
Of course.
I'm just talking about just period.
What Kyrie doing? Number one picks.
A.I.? No, I'm looking.
No, that was.
No, but he looks good. I mean, he looks good coming off angle, you know. Did Ben Griffin have a crazy? Man, that team's going to be good, man. Like, Sar, like, he's an actual post player. Like, he actually posts us up. And, you know, he know what he's doing down there. So, it's like, oh, man, y'all going to.
So, we'll tap 43. Vijay Edgecombe had 34 last season. Yeah, it's not. Yeah. Wilt had 43. Number one picks. Oh, number one picks.
A.I.
Had 30, I think.
Yeah. If I say A.I.
Yeah, I mean. Kareem had 29. Damn. Paolo Bankera had 27. What'd I have? Yeah, that's what I thought.
It was like, I don't know if it was that era, like the last couple years, it was, because I seen Paolo first and then they had A.J.
Second.
I think Bron at 25.
Yeah, 25.
So it was.
Like probably like in the last 15 years, I didn't, it was probably the last 15 years. But, yeah, like, he's going to be good.
I mean, this class, I can see why. I can see why there was a lot of tinkering.
Oh, yeah, this was a good class.
This was a good class, yeah. There was a lot of this. Yeah. This was a, I mean. Could turn out to be one of the, you had 14, I believe, against the Timberwolves. Oh, don't, let's not talk about that. Yeah, don't do that. 14 and 8, though. 14 and 8. That's what it was. I had a dunk. I ain't really in that conversation.
I had a dunk, I think. Flash break.
You had two? I had two points. Loud, I think.
Loud, too.
Very productive, too. Setting the stage for you to become an NBA champion later in life. Move on to you, Swaggy, former wizard as well. We got two wizards on the couch. When you look at A.J. DeBonsa, how do you think A.J. looked in his first game, his NBA debut with the Washington Wizards? They lost the game, but he led the team with 19 points.
I always liked A.J. A lot of talent. When I first seen him, I wanted to compare him to his. Like a LeBron, not his style of game, but just like the way he's coming in. He could change the game for this next generation. For me, I think he's got so much talent, he's got to figure out what moves to do at certain points. That's his only thing.
I think you've got to dump some of his game down and play with Trey Young and AD. That's why I wanted to see him just have his own team for a year. You know, get the numbers and learn how to win. But, you know, I like this Wizards team first time. I like A.J. I don't really like the Wizards. I like A.J. I think he's got a lot of potential to be one of the best Wizards to play this game. You don't like Anthony Davis? I like that.
I like Trae Young. You like Trae Young? Yeah. So you like a lot of the wizard players. Yeah, just not the... That's how I am about the Clippers.
Yeah.
I feel you.
Yeah.
Trae Young called me a wizard hater. I mean, Draymond said go to therapy. Trae Young called you a wizard... Go to therapy about your wizard.
Shit, man.
Trae Young called you a wizard hater?
Yeah, he called me a wizard. Recently?
Yeah. How did you feel about that?
I was a little... A little upset, you know, a little disappointed. Because me and Trae Young, it was like, you know, he's got my last name. He's a wizard now. But then he explained to me, he was like, man, you know, I don't want to have to say it, but you're forcing me to say it. I got to speak up for my team. I was like, man, fuck the Wizards, man.
You know what I mean?
You know what I mean?
You know what I mean.
No. No?
Gil, Wizard, great. Honored by the Wizards a few years ago. Legends night.
I got over 200, damn near 200 million on the Wizards, man.
You know what I mean? They want me to bark. Hey, listen, I don't give a fuck what y'all say. You know what I mean?
But look, I don't understand, but I understand that you went through a lot of shit over there, I'm sure.
Yeah. You know, I mean, even though those are your best years, but you went through. No, no, no. We had Tapscott as a coach.
Tapscott.
He was the secretary in the office. True. They needed someone to coach you. It's okay, man. I can't.
I'm going to sue, actually. Because don't you get you sued for like, what's that shit called?
Oh, stupid agent. Mental anger.
Yeah. I ain't been the same since. Ain't no statute of limitations on my mental health.
This is a magic. No statute of limitations on your mental health, wacky. Same guy to me. He can probably win it. You know, he can probably win that case. Emotional distress. Depression, didn't get paid or something? No.
That's the lockout happening. So what did they give you to come back the next year?
Qualifying offer. What was that, like four point?
Five.
Hard to live off five million dollars, right? They gave you the qualifying offer off 17 a game? They was trying to get me fucking in some bullshit.
Oh, you was Flamingo. Oh, that's what it is. So you was the dummy before the dummies, huh?
Mark Markerstein.
So what was the offer?
And the father had 40.
Everybody was getting 40. Yeah, yeah.
So a father was getting 40. So what did they offer.
You that you said no? Five years, 25. Five years, 25. You for real?
Yes. Five years, 25. I said, come on, man.
What the fuck is going on?
And you signed a one-year... Five. One-year five. And then when you left, what did you get? Two years, 18.
Played option. Two years, 18. Okay, so you made up.
Yeah.
Okay, and then after that? Stop fucking with me.
I'm going to sit here. No, I don't want to keep going down.
I'm trying to say that was a good deal. You know what I mean?
Oh, no. Y'all fucked it up. You. It was you. It was you, Karan. I didn't tell you to look at another nigga's pocket.
No.
I mean, you thought.
Yes, you did.
Yes, you did. Like, yeah.
Because Afalo.
So, Afalo had.
He got five-year-forty.
Yeah. So, he felt he was better. So, he was like, he got five-year-forty. I need more. Yeah.
He haven't seen it. I know he haven't seen it. But you don't know what he was doing over there. But everybody was getting it, though. Everybody in our draft was getting it.
You.
Pause. You hear me? See, that's why I'm fucked up. You didn't get it. I wasn't there.
If I would have known about this, I would have said, hey, man, listen, you better take that five-year, 25, with your broken ass.
You see what I did with it? You see what I did with it? You better take that slave deal.
I would have told you to take.
The slave deal.
You damn near did.
I didn't know nothing about that. I had my own shit going on.
Yeah, you was fucked up, too. Man, that's crazy, man.
I mean, it'd be all right, man. You know what I mean? You on the couch. Swaggy Huffley, this couch is therapeutic for you. Huffley Gills paying you. At least enough to offset that difference. It's bringing back memories.
Hey, man, how about five years, $ 500, 000?
I feel like Clay.
This how Clay feel. This how Clay feel.
How about a five-year, $ 500, 000? You like that? That sounds like some good-ass money. If you did it once, you know. Oh, I can even qualify. Oh, shit. Boogie, let's shift over to you. Back to A.J.
DeBonsa.
Nah, don't cry, man.
Nah, you don't want me to cry on the couch. Nah, I don't want views and shit. I want you to cry on the couch.
I didn't know all this, man. This is the first time I heard this, man. Back to A.J. DeBonsa. 19 points in his Wizards debut. Most by Wizards rookie since 1992. What do you think about A.J. in his first game with the Washington Wizards?
This is what I expected.
A.J.
's a gamer.
I feel like he's been a pro before he was ever a pro. he's shown flashes of the program even at the high school and collegiate level. So 6'9, versatile wing, can do a little bit of everything, explosive athlete.
I mean, he was the number one pick for a reason.
And I think the other night he just showed why. So very, very bright future, obviously, a future face of this league. He's only going to continue to get better. And they got a chance to actually make some noise in the East.
I believe that.
But only way is if I feel like if they figure out that, you know, that Anthony Davis situation. But I know we're talking about AJ right now, but, you know, I've been kind of thinking on that situation as far as AD getting his extension.
But if the Wizards feeling like, you know what I'm saying, it's not a good move.
With everything that's going on in Minnesota right now and how much time you're going to miss.
I say they do a straight-up trade for Rudy and AD. Yeah, Rudy been saying crazy shit. Man, Rudy looking crazy.
He's shooting like 23% at the rim or something like that.
0 for 13. You heard what you just said? Yeah.
You're saying Rudy playing like ass, but you want us to take him.
Yeah, I've been taking everybody.
But if they don't want to extend AD, they might as well.
I'm not taking him. You just said he playing like ass.
But it do opens up for A.J., though. Yeah, it opens up for the young guy, A.J.
But I already got a five, man.
I already got a five.
Alex Sargis, Sargis played the four or five. Sargis, also French like Rudy. You got the French connection over there, Sacre Bleu. And what'd it do? Rudy told LaMelo. I think it'd be better for Minnesota all around. They kind of got that other go-to guy while Anthony is out to go along with LaMelo.
I think it works for both teams. The Wizards get that defensive anchor. So, you know, I just thought about it. But, you know, as far as A.J., he the real deal, man. Like I said, I think he's going to continue to get better. He's going to be one of the top players in this league for a very long time.
This game speaks for itself. It ain't too much to say about, bro. He the real deal. And y'all still have faith in this Wizards squad. They've been a little shaky to start this season. Look pretty good on paper, but they've been losers for a long time now. It's hard to go from a loser to a winner. Who is their coach? Brian Keefe, I believe. Who?
I don't know who that is.
I'm not really into coaches.
Coaches matter.
I know, I know, but I'm really not.
I want to see the players and then If you start doing some dumb shit, dumb subs, these weird timeouts, then I got to know your name.
So Brian Keefe is the head coach. Brian Keefe. Of the Washington Wizards. Give yourself faith in this Wizards squad. I see you rocking the Wizards jersey. Yes. From what I've seen.
Playoffs? Playing?
Yes.
You know what it is?
I just, like, when you look at the kids that are there, it.
Reminds me of, like, The Spurs players, right?
Like before you got Wimby, y'all was looking trash. But there was individuals on there that was playing well, right? Just as a group, y'all wasn't winning. This was the same thing here. You have a whole bunch of.
Kids that actually has skill and talent.
Now playing the game the right way and just learning how to win games is going to be the beginning of the season. Like going out there playing hard is one thing, but going out there making that right play, right, diving on that last ball, like the plays that you need to do to win, that's what they got to get put into them, you know, from.
You got to learn how to dive on balls.
Really?
You got to learn how to be a winner, Doc.
You got to learn how to be a winner.
With balls.
With balls.
Win with balls. All right, well.
Hey, man. Don't talk to me. You'll fight all I ask.
Five of your $ 500, 000. This is $ 75 million. Boy, if you don't get.
Damn, boy. I'm throwing the wizard. You old Kamega ass.
I'm throwing the wizard.
You don't want to sign my money?
I'm going to take your ass off.
You should be the one advocating.
Hey, man, don't do it. It happened to me.
Hey, Kamega, don't do it. I did say that.
Kamega, don't do it.
When I turned that money down, man, they stopped passing me the ball. They sent my ass to Philly. Right?
And when I got to Philly, his ass.
There's a fucking green screen coming down. Let's move this shit up. We'll move it up. Bring the green.
I want to see boss man.
One, two.
Mostly fans still a work in progress. We had some technical difficulties with mostly fans. We're going to get that back up and running soon. But before we do move on, ladies and gentlemen, shout out to everybody in the chat. If you're rocking with the show and you appreciate us going five days a week, working hard for y'all every single day, go ahead and hit that like button. If you have not done so already, make sure you subscribe to our at Gills Arena show channel on YouTube. We appreciate y'all for all the support. Let's get these likes up as we head into this weekend. But we got one more thing we got to touch on before we do.
of the old version of Mostly Fans. So NBA World got some sad news Wednesday as longtime Inside the NBA host Ernie Johnson officially announced he's retiring from the show after this season. Johnson shared the news with the following video released on his social media. Hey, everybody.
Ernie Johnson here. You know, I've been hosting Inside the NBA for a long time. This is my 37th year. And I've long described it as a get-to job. Still amazed that I get to do this for a living. As the years have gone by, and I turned 70 this past summer, folks have asked me, so how long are you going to keep doing Inside? Well, I want to take a couple of minutes of your time to answer that. This will be my last season. Totally my decision.
It's just time. It's been an honor to share so many nights, decades actually, at the desk with my brothers, Kenny, Charles, and Shaq, and with our production crews who are so talented and devoted. And I so appreciate the leadership at TNT and ESPN for allowing the show to continue. So why now? Total honesty here. I've always prided myself on my preparation, the hours I put in every day getting ready for the next show. I've always loved that part of my job. But I've always vowed that if that ever became more of a challenge than it is a joy, then I'll know it's time to step away. And now after 37 seasons, it's time.
Beautiful words there from Ernie. Ernie, I feel you, because after five seasons on this show, it might be time for me to dim. Face all fucked up, dealing with Gil. Fucking spiders eating me and shit. I'm trying to sleep. I thought it was trippy. My shit is fucked up.
Chat pointed it out. I thought it was just the TV. Nah. Nah.
I look like red.
Yeah, because it was red on this side, but I thought it was like the TV.
Spiders feasting on this beautiful skin.
That's it, man. You can't wear coconut oil at night, bro.
Shit.
You got to look like that. Look, look.
You got to look like this, man. You got to have that hard skin.
That hard water.
I mean.
Whoa, bro. What the damn? Ernie Griffin. The wizard's general manager that traded him. Brother, it's all right, brother. It's all right.
But prioritize moisturizer.
We need some holy water over here. Come here, bro. You need a hug, bro.
Give that man a hug, man. My dog fucked up. My dog fucked up.
Good nigga.
Let's go sit together, bro.
No, no, no, no, no, no. Listen, I don't want none of that sad shit over here, man.
Get my dog together, man.
I got positive energy going on on this side, man. We talking about Ernie. Let's talk about Ernie. Let's talk about Ernie Johnson, but I feel Ernie's pain. The preparation being up late at night to produce a hit show, to work on a hit show. Ernie, I feel you. But if y'all hiring over there inside the NBA, I would like to preliminarily throw my name in the hat. No, I'm just kidding. But in all sincerity, so Ernie Johnson also acknowledged Health issues, wanted to spend more time with his family as a reason for him dipping. He's worked for Turner Sports since 1989, began hosting Inside the NBA a year later. In his 37 seasons as host, Inside the NBA has won more than 20 Sports Emmy Awards and been the gold standard for a sports studio show,
just like Gil's Arena is the gold standard for a hood sports studio show. So show transition from TNT Sports to ESPN and ABC starting last season. Very emotional, very sad to see them leave TNT. And also sad to see their schedule now. Less episodes. Kind of playing them to the left a little bit. But Ernie Johnson still plans to work with Turner Sports and CBS in a reduced role, including coverage of the NCAA men's basketball tournament.
But Gil, let's start with you. Gilbert Arenas. Much like inside the NBA, you got Gil's Arena. What's your reaction to Ernie Johnson announcing his retirement from inside the NBA after this season?
I mean, it's sad. I mean, it's sad because it's one of the best shows that we've had. Like, you know, the barriers that Charles Shatner broke down made it possible for us to be able to say some of the things we say. You know, ex-players having fun, not needing a degree to get up there, right? Just enjoying the game.
The entertainment value they bring, you know, every single time. So to see them get traded, or I mean, to see them move over to what they call the enemy. Remember I said this, I said, I hope, I hope that they don't get shelved.
Right.
So these shows can live better, which, you know, these shows is not that show. So you don't look better. Like you somehow figure out how to put the whole cast together, which.
Would have been epic. Right. Talking about Charles, Shaq, Stephen A. Smith, Keisha Perkins.
Like, inside that building, y'all got power. And they've done that from time to time. Yeah, from time to time.
But, you know, you cut them half the time that they was on.
I know, but they go from 50% to, you know, 50.
Games to 20 games. 25-plus playoffs.
Yeah, so to them, it's like, man, like, we number one, and you're not treating us like this, man.
I'd rather just retire.
So, the fact that he came to that conclusion is.
Disappointing. No.
Because, you know, they are one of the better shows that people get to basically tune in and just enjoy.
You know, Charles.
Usually said, you know, he threw, you know, I'm just waiting for them to buy me out. You know, stuff like that. So you can see that they wasn't happy and you shouldn't be.
Oh, yeah.
Right?
Getting demoted. We wasn't happy.
I'm about to say, yeah.
Allegedly, hypothetically, Gil, I can share their pain and concern. To know that feeling. Y'all seen it on my face. When you're on the top. Y'all see it on my face right now. Still lingering.
That's coconut oil.
Had to take my chain. I kept it, though, D-Bo.
Kept it.
Hey, I mean, you sure it was just a regular spider?
I'm hoping I got hit by a spider.
Something. Something was fucking my face up, Boogie. Oh.
Hey, baby.
I tried to hide it.
Date lines.
Nah, that's pink eye.
Nah, they lying, man.
That's pink eye.
You got life insurance policy, man? I'm just saying, man. You might be getting off.
He didn't wash his face after. He just laid down. He didn't wash his face after. He just laid down and went to sleep.
I would tap out, but I got to be aware. But thank you, Chad, for pointing it out. I'm trying to conceal it. Still came to work. That's the dedication of a Hubs, like Ernie Johnson.
What happened next? He just laid down after. All the juices started marinating.
It. Walked up like, what the fuck? Inside the NBA, a staple of basketball culture. What are your thoughts on Ernie Johnson announcing his retirement? End of an era for inside the NBA. We'll see what happens moving forward. They got some other potential options to replace him. I think Adam Lefkoe My guy would probably be the best fit over there, but that's neither here nor there. Adam Lefkoe used to host a Tuesday night show, done a ton of work with TNT as well. Yeah, we didn't watch it.
Bleacher Report, you did, Gil.
I don't know. That's going to be tough to replace Ernie. Legend in the game. It looked like he was about to cry right there, man. Emotional.
It was an emotional show yesterday. Charles almost cried. Yeah, Charles got a little more.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's like it's– I know that last show is going to be crazy. They all might cry on that one. But just– Like seeing people get old and older, that's always sad to me. Like seven years old, she had been doing this for 37 years. All he know really, knowing, being around Charles and Shaq and all of them, Kenny, they made something big and really giving that up.
37 years. That's tough, yeah.
That's tough. That's tough, right?
Giving that up and.
You know, you've seen days when he looks sick and he fighting through it just to come to work and have fun. Like, that was like his joy. You know, after he turned 70, ain't too much you could do but talk. And, you know, so, shit. So, man, what else are we going to be doing? Like, they have to give it up. You know something is going on.
And I don't think they're, like Gil said, particularly happy with the changeover. TNT lost their... NBA rights deal. ESPN gave them a lifeline to keep the show alive. Obviously, they didn't really have any other option. But even watching their last show with TNT was a sad moment.
Yeah.
I'm going to shift over to you. Heavy in the media now. Ernie Johnson retiring. What are your thoughts on that? That sucks.
I think everybody on this couch obviously had to be a fan of the show because, you know, we're doing the same thing now.
So, yeah.
Ernie, the rest of the crew, those guys were huge inspirations, great models as to figuring out a transition out of the game into another field, just even showing that it's possible, giving us the confidence, showing that we can be more than just hoopers on the court. We can go out here and talk the game, spread the knowledge. So sad, bro.
It's sad.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
And then on top of that, you know, him coming from a different environment from the rest of the crew that was on the panel with him, just for them to even put that aside and have the brotherhood that they have, you know, it shows the mutual respect that all those guys have.
For one another.
And it's credit to Ernie because for the most part, Hooper's got a hard time respecting somebody that never, you know, played the game. So you can see the love and respect they have for this dude. And that's just credit to, you know, who he is as a person and as a partner at work. So, um, I do think you said something about, you know, them taking the show and kind of evaluating it to, to uplift the other ones, man. That's, that's the nasty part of the business that a lot of people don't quite understand.
But, um, It sucks. That was an iconic show.
I don't think.
I mean, besides us, I don't think it's anything going to come close.
I got to put that in the atmosphere. Like, business-wise, it's like... Like, I know what businesses do.
Right?
They take something, suppress it to bring something else.
But.
The something else ain't that. It's never going to get.
get that.
So why, like, you have some of the best person, like when you're talking about just top tier, just talent itself under one building.
And you're telling me there's nobody in that building.
Smart enough to create fucking five different shows with all this talent.
That could take money.
You know what I mean? But we got money.
I know, but... You're talking about Shag and.
They got money that they don't want to spend. Like, Shag and Keidra... That's a late night show.
You got so many different shows that can be put together.
It just doesn't make sense. Right? So it's like, I'm pretty sure... Ernie's going to still do college. No, he's still going to work. Of course.
So, obviously, it's not about just retiring and go chill. You're still going to work. But remember, you was 36 years with this one company.
Right. That's your home. Well, he still works for Turner.
But that's what I'm saying.
That's your home. And I got the opportunity to work with TNT and Turner a bunch in the past few years. And just the tight-knit camaraderie, the family atmosphere there, everybody rocks with each other. The laid-back nature of the show, just being around those dudes and seeing them firsthand and getting to look. under the hood to see how that show is produced. You can't replicate that taking it anywhere else.
So they, I think did this cause they got a lot of people on that staff who they love and care about that still needed that bread. So we're going to still keep doing this. Probably don't like doing it. If I have to be a hundred percent honest under this new format and what they got going, but they love each other so much that for the rest of that crew. And that new format fucked.
I mean, they were still great.
It just, it took away that raw organic feeling, uh, you know, just sitting with your boys, chopping it up. So, uh, Like I said, they the blueprint of this shit as far as, you know.
I think Charles would be like, I'm going with Ernie. I really want to see what, like, Shaq does because he's already a big personality and he's getting– Like, he's been in it for a while, but this is still, he's still basically a rookie inside of this game dealing with someone who's been there 37 years. So it's like, what are you going to do with him? If he says, yeah, I'm done, I'm going to just podcast.
Like, wait, hold on now.
Yeah.
You know what I mean?
Like, now we got to, you got to figure, you got to figure out a team.
I know, but I'll say, you got to figure out how to keep them inside that building. Um, Charles might retire. He always says that.
I feel like Charles been talking about retirement for a while.
Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
It might just be a bluff.
Charles was off.
That shit as soon as they switched. But they used to be their enemy, though, right? And then your enemy got more power and more money. I'm going to let you pop off.
All this shit used to talk about me.
Used to sell the white.
Now you're just going to sell that weed. Yeah.
Basically, yeah.
I mean, y'all selling the good, but that's all you. You ain't getting no upgrade.
When Omar took over all Stringer Bell's corner, very similar. But let's keep this thing moving. We're going to move on to Mosey fans. We got our basic Mosey fans for you. Find folks at home. I'm fucking with the soundtrack. Shout out to our productions that worked very, very hard. We don't blame them. We blame you guys for having terrible Wi-Fi connections, messing up our Mostly fans. Try to be interactive with y'all, but your screens are freezing. You got the phones too close to your face. So we're going to put together an instructional course for everybody who wants to jump on Mostly fans. We'll get that fixed up.
Simple things, but obviously technology, not easy for all. So we've got some comments from the chat. So, Mr. Biggs, 8422, put $ 20 in the offering plate. He said, here's some money for the audio. Thank you, Mr.
Biggs.
We will take that money and put it to good use. We got a comment from Primo.
Primo!
Primo Podcaso. Primo Podcaso 5259 said, Boogie, I will always die on the hill that you were the blueprint of the current NBA big. Literally, Embiid and Jokic rolled together. If you were drafted in today's league, which team would you choose and why? Well, you get a lot of love from our chat. I appreciate the love, man. I think people sleep on how good you were as a Hooper.
I appreciate you, man.
Thank you.
If I could choose in today's game right now, which team would you choose?
I'm going Minnesota. It's either Minnesota or Detroit for me. The White Ember Wolves?
Yeah.
I think I could fit in in those places. Swaggy, where do you feel like you would have excelled in today's NBA and got that big bag that the Wizards denied you? Probably the Lakers. With the snow-time Lakers, do you feel like you and Luka would have matched?
Lakers or Clippers. I want to stay home. Stay in the hood. Where they have to know good.
Stay home. We'll do some strange stuff. Stay in the hood where they're up to no good. Gil, how about yourself? Where do you feel like you would flourish in today's NBA with your skill set?
At a halfway house, right?
What, team?
Fucking crazy, motherfucker. Yeah, yeah.
Huh? That's where you flourish at, yeah. Where you flourish?
You would flourish there. Where you flourish at? Halfway house.
Yeah.
Flourish in the house on it. Got this studio, that studio. Turn that bitch out.
You know what? Halfway home. Jail cell.
What you.
Want to do?
You know what? I was so.
Gifted, man.
It really didn't matter where you put me at.
You feel me? You know what I mean? Hey, you can put me on the moon, God damn it. There's going to be someone up there not to pass the ball to, you know? You actually did enjoy passing the ball as much as your anti. No, I like passing it. You just had to make it.
There came a point in time when he had to pass the ball, too. He wasn't always like that. That's why he anti-passed the ball.
I didn't like that.
It got to a point where he couldn't shoot. It got to a point where he couldn't shoot. All he had to do was pass. That was Memphis. That was when John Wall came.
That was the White House. Why are you attacking me? No, no, because you had a whole.
30 minutes spent on my life.
No, no, I was just asking a question.
30 minutes, the last 30 minutes was on me. You said earning money. I didn't say earning money. I'm just saying you triggered.
No, yes, I am.
I know what triggered you.
You bit Memphis. The corner nigga in Memphis triggered you. Number nine when you wore that jersey.
Being a corner.
I'm just saying, I mean, you know, you got $ 25.
Million on the table, you know, you signed for five.
I'm just saying, hey.
Hey.
You know, that was a smart decision.
You know what?
But look, you ain't always making smart decisions. You know, when you, when you friended T-Lot, yeah, that was a smart knock. When you was having that party, when you was having a party at the house, but the wife put the, uh, the.
Cameras in, so you know she has, you know, she has the.
Seed to it.
That was a smart, I'm just saying, you, you've been doing dumb shit.
Your whole, your whole life.
Yes, being your friend, motherfucker. That's the smartest thing you did. That's beautiful, man. That's beautiful, man.
I got a couple more here. So MaxGo24, just a comment. He said, Bronny to Miami. I wouldn't mind that. Bronny, I think, would plug in very nicely with that heat squad.
What happened?
Bronny to Miami. That's what they're saying, that the heat need. Everybody can use Bronny around the league. We need him, man.
We got a good dude over there that's keeping positive.
Shout out to Bronny. No longer on the Lakers G League team. Now a full-fledged NBA player. Shout out to Bronny James. I don't hear nobody clapping in our production staff or in the audience. Not enough Bronny love. Okay. Keep fucking around. That's crazy. So we got a comment from John Austence. He put 20 in the offering pot.
He said, trade Bam for Cedric Howard and Zach Eady in Memphis. Cedric Howard balling right now, second year out of Washington State. Zach Eady. Ooh.
See what I mean? Just send some money. Who?
I heard his second name. Zach Eady, Cedric Howard. Who's Cedric Howard? Play for the Grizzlies. Nobody fucking watches the Grizzlies. John Barrett left, man.
We don't watch them no more.
John Barrett. John Barrett left. John Barrett left. We don't watch Memphis no more.
Who's over there right now?
Nobody really cares like we do he got an average 30 and we'll be like.
How drama Hooper see in Miami to.

You got to check in whenever you pull up to Memphis. When you wore a Memphis jersey, that was sad. He said some shit that just don't make sense. You said I got to what? You got to check in when you go to Memphis. I don't go to Memphis. Who the fuck goes to Memphis? Like, why would I go to Memphis?
How I treated the NBA cities.
Is the same way.
Yeah, I'm not touching down some of them cities.
Listen, I can fly straight to wherever I want to go. I'm not taking no stop to here and that city to go to there.
Nah, you ain't catching me. You ain't catching me in some of these cities.
I fucked with Nashville.
Yeah, I fucked with Memphis. I was going to Memphis before Kentucky, so.
You look like you want to be out.
There, though.
When I was there, we had to stay in a hotel. I lived in a hotel. I can tell you, it was a ghost town. It was one of them times where everything was boarded up.
Right. When you were there? Yeah, I'm pretty sure somebody bought all that shit now. What year were you there? 11, 12. I think it was 11, 12. But, like, the mall was shut down.
Like, the mall was empty. I ain't never been to the mall.
What's the funny is when I retired, when I was retired, I remember writing down, like, go check out Memphis downtown and see if there's buildings for sale.
And then I just forgot about it. Forgot about it because you will never return to Memphis. Hell of a.
