Hey, this is Keon. And this is your host, Riley, your favorite OK Storytel host, and we've got some great stories coming up from you. But before that, we have a two-minute break from the sponsors that keep the show alive.

I anonymously sent flowers to my sister, and now her husband thinks she's cheating. Ooh, that backfired. I, male 37, have always been close to my sister, female 35. We talk regularly, and during one such conversation, she told me she's been feeling really depressed.

And overwhelmed lately.

As we were talking, I could tell she was holding back tears, so I decided to do something nice for her. I contacted a local florist and put in an order for some flowers. I had them delivered with my sister's place of employment with a note reading, Thinking of you.

Why did you add your name? Why didn't you say, I see sister. I'm thinking of you.

You just left it blank?

You just said thinking of you? Who's thinking of her? Alvin, a blank space baby, put your name. Put your name. You read this before.

Alvin!

Alvin! No, we didn't.

A few hours later, the florist called me up and told me a man has been calling them nonstop and demanding they tell him who sent his wife flowers. They tried to explain that it was against their policy to reveal that information, but the man wouldn't take no for an answer. Apparently, he became so aggressive and threatening over the phone, the shop called me up and asked my permission to reveal the name of the sender to the man, the man being my brother-in-law. It turns out my sister had called her husband and thanked him for the flowers.

He told her he hadn't sent any flowers and accused her of having an affair. By the way, this comes from theka, theba, and ra. And if you want to submit your own stories, go to the r slash ok story time subreddit.

I'm Savannah. I'm Sophia.

I'm Skion.

Ooh, and we're here to give some good advice goofily, but we don't have all of your answers. We don't want to tell you what we would do, which, take that with a grain of salt, and we would love to hear what you would do.

Down in the comments.

As OP says, he believed her affair partner had sent them to her, which is why he called the florist like a lunatic demanding names. Now my sister is more depressed than ever, and she's been fighting with my brother-in-law ever since. My friends think I should have included my name on the card. Had I done that, they say, this blow up would have never happened.

Like, yes, should you have put your name on the card just because, I don't know, they're from you. It's nice for your sister to know who these are from. Yes. However, I don't think, you know, you sending the flowers should mean that her husband blows up To an insane degree, I think that's a him problem. Sounds like.

I say it's my brother-in-law to blame, as he was the one who can't control his temper. So, Reddit, am I the a-hole?

Do they know that you're involved yet? Wait, there's an edit.

Oh.

Edit. Oops, I totally forgot to explain that I gave the floors permission to tell my brother-in-law it was me. So he knows my sister knows. Everyone knows at this point. Sorry for the confusion.

Did he yell at you? What's going on? I need to know.

Tell your brother.

Tell your brother.

He let me. he's the a-hole i agree reacting the way that he did i obviously he has trust issues or something oh 100 that makes him insecure to blow up on the florist and like threaten them to demand who sent these flowers like who said grow up like have the conversation with your wife and and also your wife.

Doesn't know she's really i don't know also it's just like could have been there are a You're in an affair. She's already having a bad day.

The consensus here is everyone sucks.

Yay. I feel like the sister doesn't suck.

Yeah, I feel like the sister did a nice thing. She just didn't sign the card and then... Oh, I meant OP's sister.

She's an innocent bystander.

Oh, yeah.

OP's sister, yeah, didn't do anything. Yeah, but I also agree with it, OP. Yeah, I think the only a-hole here is the husband. Like, to react that way?

Like, grow up. 17 days later.

Thank you all for your kind words and honest judgment. I acknowledge that my momentary lapse in judgment has wrought much instability. Your concern for my sister's well-being truly touched my heart. I would, however, like to take this time to explain that it was not my intention to foul up my sister's marriage by way of my anonymous gift.

Nor have I ever harbored any weirdly loving feelings towards my sister.

Yeah, who said that? Yeah. That's crazy. You sent your sister flowers? You freak. My dad has given me Valentine's Day cards.

My flabbers are gassed, dude.

Yeah, why are y'all jumping to the fact that anytime someone sends a nice card or flowers, that's automatically romantic interest?

My mom gives all of us cards, and my dad gives all of us flat, er, chocolates.

Yeah, my dad always gives me a card and chocolates.

What's up, Hoy?

What's up, boy? Hoy hoy!

Hoy hoy!

Hoy!

Hoy hoy came back in. All right, let's freaking get to it. Now the update. You guys were right.

It turns out her marriage has been on the decline for a long while now, and her depression is largely the result of that. My sister is now getting divorced.

Shocker.

That's what it took? Honestly, if that's what it took, then good. Ugh, that's so sad, though. Now your sister sucks.

Was this that broke? Was that, like, the last straw? The straw?

The straw that broke the camel's back? What's the straw? And his back was a camel's?

I feel like they were definitely headed in that direction, but my actions probably sped things up. My brother-in-law has moved out. And in with another woman.

Well, whoever said projection was right.

So I tend to agree with those commenters who speculated some degree of projection on his part when he accused my sister of having an affair. In talking with my sister, she explained that he was always mean with an explosive temper.

All in all, my sister's disappointed.

At the failure of her marriage, she seems cautiously optimistic. I'll be sure to support her going forward and want to thank you all again for your concern. And that's the end of this story.

We're gonna go on to the next one. My sister-in-law pulled my wedding photographer away to shoot her own engagement photos. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. My wedding first, babe. So my husband and I got married in June. That's my birthday month. That's our birthday month.

Thank you.

So very happy. Beautiful wedding, and it was simple among today's standards, but was perfect for us. My husband and I saved up for over three years for our wedding and reception.

Wow.

I had my bridesmaids come with me to choose their dresses because I could not afford to buy them. And let's be honest, seldom does the, and you'll be able to wear it again, apply classic 27 dresses moment. We paid for everything except bridesmaid dresses and groomsmen tuxedo rentals. We also asked my bridesmaids and his groomsmen to have the dresses and tuxedos as their wedding gift to us from them. We did not ask our parents to spend anything on our wedding. reception, etc., because neither of us have come from families of means, and it meant more to us to not burden them when we were extremely happy with a simple, low cost, compared to many weddings of our generation, wedding. Even the bridesmaid dresses were $ 100 each,

and I believe, beautiful. Personally, I think I just want to give my bridesmaids a color. One color? Yeah, one color. I don't know. Maybe like a fabric. I saw this one girl.

recently one of my friends from back home she got married and she.

Did a bunch of different colors yeah she did like little pastels and it looked really cool i was like wait i didn't even think about different colors i like same dress different colors or same color different dress i think it would literally just be like green and then you could do any shade of green my friend did like purples and lab like lavenders and blues okay so like shades of like A cooler color. I feel like that's where I would be.

I've been to weddings with both. So it's different colors and different dresses. I was like green, which is more like a sage because it's like a very neutral.

Yeah, like any type of green they wanted, it would just be like long dress, maybe this type of fabric. Black dress.

But honestly, I don't even know if.

I care about type of fabric. Anyway, I'm not my nature a complainer and I make a daily conscientious effort not to be. Raised to always be grateful for the things you have and not focus on what you do not have. So while I'm new to Reddit, I would like advice from you. Because I feel like asking those closer to the situation not only would put them in an uncomfortable situation, but may cause more strife. Okay, that all being said, here is my situation dilemma. By the way, this comes from LakerGirl06. com. And if you want to submit your own stories, go to the r slash showcase story time subreddit. I'm Sophia. I'm Savannah.

I'm Keon.

And we're here to give good advice goofily, but we don't have all the answers. We only know what we do. So let us know what you would do in the comments. Opie says, after our wedding, we had our reception. I did not realize until much later when we were to have photographs taken of the toast, garter taken off, first dance, father bride dance, etc. That we couldn't find the photographer's we hired later the photographer reappeared my sister also my matron of honor approached him and asked where he had been he responded that the groom's sister my now sister-in-law and her recent fiance had requested him in another room of the venue were they paying you dude Were they paying you? Otherwise, you don't have to listen to them. Yeah,

this is, like, a tough situation, especially for the photographer. I mean, what are you supposed to do?

It's like you're getting paid to take pictures, but then, like, someone pulls you aside and.

Is like, can you take pictures of us really quick? Like, it'll just be one second. It'll be a second.

What if they slid the photographer, like, this is my friend Benjamin.

No, are you going to take it? This is mom. Generally, I think if you want to maintain your, you know, reputation as a wedding photographer, I would not risk that for people who weren't paying me.

Yeah.

Oh, Purple Trader Texas Roadhouse time.

Yeah. Roadhouse.

Roadhouse. We finished our beautiful special day slash night and we're so happy. My sister gave me a heads up about the combo between her and our photographer, but she didn't know why my husband's sister had asked him to go with her. So after a couple of weeks, we received our wedding proofs from the photographer. In the middle of the book was several pics of my sister-in-law and her fiancé. Hmm. So I proceeded to call our photographer and ask him about the many photos of them. He responded that my sister-in-law and her recently engaged fiance had requested he go with them to get separate pictures taken.

When he suggested that he needed to stay at the reception, they lied to him and said my husband and I had told them it was our wish. I was so upset. Oh, wow. Okay, so he was lied to. I probably would have checked still with OP and husband just to make sure.

I'd be like, hey, let me just follow up with them. So they literally were like, oh, no, like, they sent us over here. They wanted to get pictures of us specifically. It's like a gift to us.

Yeah, they said they wanted you over here. I don't know.

I would still be like, hey. I'd be like, well, after, you know, we could take them later. But just not right now. I need to get the ceremony or the reception or.

Wherever it is. I'm being paid for this part. Yeah. Oh, wow. What a B.

What a freaking B.

But there's more. First, we definitely did not know about this or say it was fine with us. Secondly, it made the photographer that we paid deposit, sitting fees, wedding ceremony and reception for not be there for us for the cake cutting, garter belt taken off by my husband, my father-daughter dance, etc. Wow.

And those are all like really highlighted moments. Like I thought it was just going to be like, oh, everyone's just dancing. But still, you want that as well. But Not to get my father-daughter... Oh, that gives me chills because I would hate that.

I need that. I love my dad. Are you asking the photographer for a refund? Like, yes, sister-in-law's fault, but photographer didn't do.

I would ask my sister to pay for her photos and then I'd... I don't know if you can... Because you can't really blame the photographer. You can blame him a little bit.

Didn't check in with you guys. I mean, but also, they're, you know, you're hosting.

a wedding where you're, you know, everyone's coming up to you and doing stuff.

It's not like the photographer is going to come and be like, Hey, sorry. Could I, um, excuse me. Could I, yeah. Like, I don't know. Dang. This is hard. We've had some hard ones. We've had to think about today. So much thinking. Oh, so after contemplating and allowing time to calm down and reflect, I'm still really upset. I did call my sister-in-law. She seemed very comfortable with what she and her fiancé did.

And what that was? Having my photographer take their engagement pictures at my expense. Anne, in fact, was quite angry at me for, at minimum, for my being upset and for not being willing to pay for their engagement pictures. I definitely do not want to start my newly married life having problems with his family. I mean, they made problems.

But I also know how long we work to pay for our own special day. and to have my husband's sister take advantage, corner my photographer, and then expect that we will pay for her engagement photos, because I'm assuming she just wanted the proofs, and to do heaven knows what with. She thought, well, you'll pay all the proofs anyway, and said I was being selfish for being upset about her photos. I realize this is a long post, but I'm hoping for some clarity. My family thinks it's all BS.

His family is split, but most of his family feels like we should just let it go. Are they paying? Yeah. Oh, are they paying?

I love when people do that. I love when people do that. They're like, OK, then pay for it.

I mean, oh, no, no, no, no, no.

Sorry.

I can't pay for it.

I'll give you my two cents, but I won't actually give you my two cents.

Yeah.

Honestly, Alvin says I would ask for a separate price on the engagement photos. I I would specifically go to the photographer and say, hey. You can either say, like, can I have a refund? Or you can say, hey, I didn't ask you to do that. I understand. Again, I understand. Tricked. Can I pay for the photos that I asked you for and not get the ones that the engagement... I don't even want the engagement photo proofs. Like, don't even give them to me.

You can charge them separately to my sister.

Yeah, I'll give you my sister's contact. And then sister can be like, well, where are the photos? And you're like, oh, well... They weren't at my wedding.

You have to pay for it.

I didn't pay for them. Yeah, that's true.

I wouldn't even give her the photos. Yeah, don't give her the photos.

What? Regardless of whether or not you get all the photos or not, don't give them her. Please help me out here. Am I being out of line? Should I just pay for the engagement photos and let it go?

No.

No. Update. Woo. So a couple of weeks ago, my husband and I met with my sister-in-law and her fiance for dinner. I wanted to meet in a public place to try and minimize the level of what may take place. The evening started out tense but civil. Eventually, I brought up the photos. She rolled her eyes and said, You're not bringing that up again, are you? I told her I was. I began trying to explain how much what she did hurt me and how hurt and sad I was that we missed having photographs taken of special important moments and memories because of her actions. She scoffed at what I was saying and said, OMG, get over it.

Then my husband stood up and angrily said to her, I'm so sick and tired of you being such a witch to everyone. And as soon as anyone calls you out on your crap, you turn it around and make it like you're the victim. It's sad that you can be so nasty. He told me, come on, let's go. I said I'd be right there, hoping I could salvage a little of this. We've got a little bit left to the story. Any final thoughts? I would go low contact with sister-in-law.

Yeah. I'd be like, screw you, girl. You actually, like, you ruined some of my wedding. And we can't even, like, I'm sure people may have gotten, like, amateur pictures, like, on their phone or something like that or maybe, like, a video. But, like, we paid someone to get those, to have these professional memories so we can look over them and be like, oh, remember this? You know, like, these are cherished memories that I will never get now.

So thanks for ruining that.

Thanks. No, I wouldn't be. yeah I'd be so upset if I hired a photographer and didn't get any photographs for my wedding or not any but you know a big chunk she turned to me and yelled are you satisfied look at what you've done I hope you're happy we gotta regret this I wanted to say something back but I knew from the lump in my throat that if I stayed one second longer I would start crying ooh yes I'm a crier me too girl I left as quickly as I could My husband had paid for our meal anyway. I cried all the way home. We didn't talk about it and haven't talked about it since.

He did, however, get a check in the mail from her. I think it cleared. With holidays coming up, I'm at level 100 with anxiety. My husband doesn't want to go to his family's Thanksgiving, but I'm trying to change his mind. Because although she's not speaking to us, I don't want to miss our Thanksgiving with his family or to make this whole thing bigger than it already is. And that is the end of that story. It is not you making a deal about anything. No. It's all her.

Anyone in your position would make a huge deal about this because you paid to have something done and it wasn't done because of your sister.

Well, sister-in-law. But still, like, what is your issue? Like, what is your problem? Like, how dare you do that? It's pretty straightforward. Why?

This is like never happened to me, but. I like keep getting chills from like being angry.

This has never happened to you. You've never had a wedding.

I've never had a wedding. I don't know what this means.

And that's the end of this story. We're going to go on to the next one.

My sister-in-law exploited my husband for her wedding. Then threw us out after she got married.

Make up your mind.

My husband's brother was getting married. Husband is 38. Brother is 34.

They asked him to be best man. He accepted.

The fiancé, 33, female, asked me to be a bridesmaid and to make the wedding cake and desserts, and I respectfully turned those down, citing my pain, disabilities, and physical limitations that I've been dealing with lately. I haven't been able to work for over a year now. They understood and were accepting. They asked husband to do many things, design and handcrafts. the invites fiance turned into a bridezilla over this one by itself smooth out massive vinyl decals on top of huge wooden cornhole boards very labor intensive and hubby has a horrible back because he broke it in a serious car accident years ago video the wedding, take bridal portraits, etc. I mean, are you paying him?

Or is this just all, like, he's supposed to be.

This is all in good faith and all in good favor?

He's like, well, could I just, could I have this? Could you give me all of this?

That is so much responsibility for one person to do. That's why, like, you know, they say it takes a village to raise a child. It takes a village to plan a wedding as well.

For real. For real.

Despite being adamant that he couldn't apply the cornhole decals any better than they could, the next weekly dinner... There they were, waiting for hubby to apply them. He did, as they watched. Husband turned down the bridal portraits. And then the last request, they asked him to drive them to the airport, two hour drive one way, the following 3 a.m. after partying and pick them up later in the week after working a full week and being exhausted.

I was genuinely concerned for his safety, having not slept much and having to drive.

At least four hours on top of that.

By the way, this comes from UnluckyAd9556, and if you want to submit your own stories, go to the r slash ok story time subreddit.

I'm Savannah. I'm Sophia.

I'm Keon.

And we're here to give some good advice in a little goofy way, but we don't have all your answers. We'd only tell you what we would do. Let us know what you would do down in the comments. As Opie says, I expressed my concern. Husband voiced it to his brother. The other couple kept pushing hubby to do it, stating that they'd be choice-ted. and unable to drive, or claiming they didn't want to park at the airport and let her car get vandalized. Not a new or fancy car, and vandalism isn't at all common at this airport. Husband stayed firm. I explained how it felt like he was being taken advantage of, that they were asking a lot of him, even if he was best man.

Anyways... They found someone else to drive them. Good. Okay. That's one less thing. Yeah. But too bad you still have five. The list still goes on.

Yeah. You still have those 15 other things on the back burner. So, and also you have to redo the vinyl on the decal because that didn't work.

Oh man. Oh man.

Yesterday afternoon, I was feeling bad that I hadn't done much to help them with their wedding. So I reached out to the bride and said, Hey, I wanted to sincerely apologize for things. Working through my own issues seems never-ending, and there appears to always be new learning curves. Let me know if there are any last-minute winning details or anything that I can help with. If there was any tension from the airport discussion, I hope to smooth it out, take full blame since we'd clearly grown up differently, and just offer an olive branch. Last night, we were supposed to go to the pre-wedding dinner. It was going to be about ten of us. Bride responded, I would have rather you not apologized at all than to give me

an insincere backhanded apology.

Oh.

Okay.

And the brother called husband and informed him that I wasn't allowed to be at the dinner and that my.

Invite had been pulled from the wedding.

What?

Well, okay. All right, then. I guess that's that.

I guess who's going to be doing the rest of the crap?

Yeah, it's like, oh, I'm uninvited. I guess I'm not helping you anymore.

No, OP isn't uninvited, but the husband is still best man.

He's not doing anything.

Are you kidding me? You think he's going to drop out? I would. If my partner was uninvited, even if I was made of honor somewhere, and let's say you're made of honor, and you're like, Your boyfriend is uninvited. I'd be like, okay, well, I'm not coming. Yeah, then I'm not going then. Especially for petty reasons like this. Yeah, yeah.

If it was because, like, maybe they didn't have enough room or something.

Yeah, different. You know, yeah. Like, a respectable reason.

It was like, you know, from the communicated at the beginning. But Opie was invited already. Stupid. This is stupid.

We were totally stunned. Completely last minute.

Literally.

Hubby explained that he wouldn't be attending the dinner. Brother said he would try to talk with bride to get her to change her mind about not allowing me at the wedding.

Any advice, please? Go get a massage. Go get a massage. Take your husband out to get massages. Can we just have massages? I want a massage. I'm done. I just really would, like, I'm not going. I'm not going. My husband's not going. We're going to get a massage. I would just be like, listen, guys, you don't, You don't care about us. No.

You obviously don't care. So we're just going to pull ourselves out. We're going to pull ourselves out. So have fun with it. You know, good luck in the future.

But also screw you. There's an update here.

The next morning, hubby changed the batteries to the cameras to prep for recording. Brother called and said that I could come to the wedding. Even if she wasn't happy with me for whatever unknown reason, at least we had a chance to enjoy the night and be there for the brother and relatives who drove so far to visit.

Not two minutes later, Bridezilla sent me a text saying how she told me she'd informed her brother I could come, but really preferred I didn't, and that it would take time to rebuild trust.

Well, the clock's ticking. The wedding's happening real soon.

It's right around the corner. Okay, bye. Wait, so she's saying now, the person's saying now, oh, well, okay, maybe you can come to the wedding? She was like, well.

She's not happy about it.

Yeah, she said, well, I told my husband to tell your husband that you can come, but I still, like, really don't want you to be there.

I'm doing it for my future husband.

Yeah, I told my husband you can come, but I still don't like you, so it'd be better if you didn't. Yeah, she's like, I don't want you there, but, I mean, I guess you're still invited. I guess you can... If you really must.

I love being invited slash uninvited at the same time.

I think I'm going to stick this one out and get my massage.

She warned that while she couldn't control her hot-tempered family who likes to fight, she really didn't want anyone to go to jail today.

What the.

F- What? I didn't know that was on the table. Is that a threat? I didn't know jail was on the table. Is that a freaking threat? She's like, I don't want anyone to- I don't want anyone to have an accident. You're like, what? That's crazy. She said, well, I just can't guarantee your safety if you come.

Screenshot that. You just screenshot that.

Yeah. And if anything happens, you know it's that girl. And you say, what do you... Sorry, what do you mean by that? I think you just literally said, what do you mean by that?

Yeah.

Is that a threat?

Excuse me?

No, no, no.

Don't even say it's not a threat because I feel like that'll be like... You just say, what do you mean by that?

No, yeah, just act like you're dumb.

Yeah, I don't actually know what that means.

Go into full detail.

Explain.

She told me to stop using mental health as a shield. Claimed that as a therapist, she saw through it.

She's a therapist?

Oh, God. Bad one. Who is going to hurt? I feel so bad.

And said she didn't think I had OCD, but rather borderline personality disorder.

Okay, way to diagnose me.

She closed by saying that since hubby was about to be her brother and she'd hurt people over family, I should treat him better and it would improve my life too.

Again, what are these threats?

Again, like, what?

But what I heard was at least two threats, one of her family and one from her. So hubby reached out to brother, then met up with him. Brother was unaware that bride sent that text and seemed unable to calm her down. Hubby stepped down from best man.

Good.

We agreed to go and he offered to look out for my safety.

I wouldn't even go. I'd be like, why are we going if you feel the need to look out for your safety? If I feel so threatened that I'm worried about my safety somewhere, my boyfriend's not going to be like, hey, let's go. Let's go. I'm good. Actually, let's go. We're not going to do that anymore.

Hubby opted to leave the cameras at home, but still agreed to walk Mom down the aisle and to do the best man's speech that he'd worked hard on. We got dressed up and showed up for the ceremony. Hubby walked Mom down the aisle, then came and sat with me. For family wedding pictures, Hubby was in a total of two.

One with Mom and brother, and one with Mom and brother holding a picture of his late father. We socialized with family that traveled from far away, whom we never see, and acted totally happy and normal, sweeping issues under the rug to try and enjoy their evening.

Well, bride was pissed.

So much so that brother came over to us and said she was livid we were there and stated that hubby and I had to leave.

Oh, brother.

I go, who's going to make me?

This guy stinks. I'd be like, well, I'm taking a piece of cake on the way out. What are you going to do about it? Nothing! Smack! I brought a shovel to the wedding. We walked over to mom.

Gave her a hug, let her know we were being kicked out, and you just saw her face sink. Straight disbelief and disappointment. The aunts and uncles, who had driven from far, were confused as to why we were leaving, so we had to gently explain that it wasn't our choice. that the bride had a problem with us being there.

Some of his extended family said we should have stayed, but with the threats that had already been made, we weren't looking for an issue.

You'll have witnesses.

Yeah, but I also am afraid for my safety.

I'm leaving. We left.

Hubby sent a text to mom and brother that said, first act as wife was to punt your brother out of the wedding. I've never in my life heard of such a thing. Dad would have been so embarrassed. What's worst is she engaged before brother to Adam. They moved in together, 3-2020, and then Adam passed away in 12-2020.

She wrote the obituary claiming to be his wife, And she used to brag about how there are YouTube conspiracy theories about people believing that she unalived her ex.

Wait, what?

Wait, what? Sorry, what?

So, basically, the bride, Bridezilla here, was supposed to be married.

Like, she was engaged earlier.

Like last year, from March 2020, and then was going to get married, but then her fiancé passed away.

In December of 2020. Oh, and now she's getting.

And there's a conspiracy theory online that's like, oh, she unaligned her husband.

How do people know about her? I don't know. But she was bragging and saying that there was YouTube videos about it. Somebody looked that up? YouTube videos about a random person. Is she effing Carole Baskin? Is she? She's like, you know, I can't guarantee your safety. The Tigers might just... Gotcha.

Yeah, this has just gone to like, you know, okay, a little disagreement.

Then it's gone into threats.

Now it's gone into conspiracy theories.

You come to me on the day of my wedding. You don't do what I ask you. You're going to be sleeping.

With the fish.

You'll be sleeping where Adam's sleeping.

You're going to be sleeping where Adam's sleeping.

Which is?

Which has never been proven. It's never been proven. You don't know how to ask me to prove it. I've never done anything wrong. No ties to me.

This chick is a mental health counselor. She is a therapist.

The perfect alibi.

How do we as a family move forward with weekly dinners at mom's or holidays? This seems beyond repair and they literally got married not even.

Four hours ago.

What? Mom spent their honeymoon worried that sister-in-law would throw brother-in-law overboard.

Okay.

This is kind of crazy. Do we know where they are? No.

Mom heard our concerns and understood that I was leaning towards reporting her for ethical misconduct, feeling that she should not be in such a position with highly vulnerable people underneath her. I had discussed getting a restraining slash no contact order, but that's a frustrating process in my state, so I've been leaning against it. Mom understood and agreed.

Hubby demanded to speak to brother the day after they got.

Back from their honeymoon.

Brother-in-law was a particular level of dense. Everything hubby said, brother-in-law would spin around and it honestly sounded like gibberish straight from sister-in-law's mouth. Brother-in-law was adamant that if hubby was still the best man, we would have been permitted to stay at the wedding.

We know that's BS.

Yeah, because they literally, he was the best man at first and OP still wasn't invited.

So I've been looking up Possible therapist that could have unalived their husband. I have yet to find any leads.

The day after, hubby sat down with brother-in-law and sister-in-law together.

Uh-oh.

That was another whole bag of dense craziness. Sister-in-law's first thing was, I stand by my text. I don't regret a single thing in there.

I stand by my text.

I don't regret a single thing.

You can't prove I regret anything.

Hubby.

laced into her. She began screaming and physically lunging at Hubby. Brother is an officer of sorts and had to actually tackle her and sit on her at times in order to restrain her.

Just sitting on her just looks like.

A funny picture.

Stop.

Stop it. I'm sitting on you. Stop. Stop.

You're being restrained.

Hubby said to Brother, this is who you chose to marry?

These behaviors are acceptable to you?

She explained to the family, me not present, that her text was not one of threats, that the perceived threats were warnings.

You know what that is. That's still a threat.

I never threaten anyone. I warn them.

What's the difference between a threat and a warning?

Warning is usually like, you're not. Hey, don't do that. Hey, don't do that. Don't do that. Someone else is going to hurt you. Or like, you will get hurt if you do that. A threat is like, I'm going to get you. The family bought it.

She also said the diagnosis were meant to be helpful and eventually said she should have worded that part differently. Sister-in-law absolutely lost it knowing she should be reported for her ethical misconduct. She went on a tangent about how she's worked for everything she has, how that would look really bad on her record, and all hubby replied with was, if you stand by your text as you say you do.

and that your text was only filled with warnings and helpful remarks, then you should have nothing to be concerned about if it did get reported. Yeah, a warning is like, hey, watch out, that stove is hot.

A threat is like, hey, watch out, I'm going to put your hand on that hot stove. Watch out.

I feel like a warning is like you're concerned for their safety, and the other one is like I am threatening your safety.

You better watch out. Oh, wait, here. You better not cry.

Ow.

Yeah, it kind of hurts.

Sister-in-law and brother-in-law started turning things around, and one of the many things included that my reasonable response to submit unethical claims against her was a direct threat against family. About an hour into the convo, sister-in-law sobbed herself out to the car, where she chain-smoked for another hour.

Girlie Pop, what? Who is this woman? I hate it in here.

I hate it in here.

Ah, I just need to take a little load off. It's too stressful.

Brother asked hubby what sister-in-law could say to get them moving towards some form of resolution. Hubby said her taking responsibility for sending that text would be a starting point. Of course, brother-in-law went out to the car, eventually came back with her, where she parroted back what hubby wanted to hear.

None of it was sincere.

Hubby decided to call mom that night. Towards the end of the conversation, she voiced, And get rid of that paperwork! Talking about the paperwork to report sister-in-law acting unethically.

Don't call her out for that.

Monday morning, I decided that a way to keep a door open for potential resolutions would be to drop a contract. Knowing that sister-in-law is so heck-bent on not wanting to be reported, so that she has mom supporting that.

I felt this was a solid option.

The contract basically outlined that she had to take responsibility for her actions, that her actions were malicious and caused harm, that with her threats, she had forfeited her right to be at family gatherings where I am in attendance, that she and her family will not contact me or show up at my house, and that so long as it was upheld, I would follow through with her desire to.

Not be reported.

Facebook's People You May Know section had sister-in-law's cousin as the first one on the list. which typically means the person was searching me, especially since the cousin and I have zero friends in common. Wait, is that.

How that does that? I don't know.

Here it is, nine days later, the day after the threat of reporting, and the cousin was suddenly showing up.

Didn't like that.

Hubby felt bad that he had been occupied with this nonsense all weekend, so he asked to take me out on a date night, and we invited Mom.

That's not a date night!

I told hubby about the contract and the cousin showing up. He informed me that the cousin had many felonies and looked her up.

Oh my.

So she's not lying how she didn't want to be like taken to jail.

She's like, please don't report me. I will be sentenced to prison. I am on the run. If you report me, the police will find out that I've been living under a false identity for ten years.

This girl has two young children that she had no custody over, and she's been arrested multiple times for breaking and entering, fighting, theft, stealing a firearm, and a few other things.

This is a therapist, by the way.

No, this is the therapist's cousin. So, check again. So, actually, you're wrong?

Maybe she's also a therapist.

Maybe they're all therapists. At the end of the day, aren't we all therapists? If you're really thinking about it.

She had actually been arrested four days earlier for punching and fighting another girl at the girl's apartment.

So four days ago she was arrested. She's misunderstood. And now she's out now. She's just misunderstood. You don't get her like I do. You know what? She mad too.

She mad.

She's just mad too.

That same night, feeling even more threatened by how loose of a cannon the cousin is, hubby sent a text to his brother letting him know that sister-in-law can stop stressing about being reprimanded that we drew up a very reasonable contract, and he really hoped to just put her mind at ease so maybe her family would lay off me.

Tuesday, mom had her scheduled art class with sister-in-law.

Huh?

It's art therapy class. Okay, cool. No, I'm just joking. I was like, did I miss that? I'm just joking.

After class, my mom called hubby and said she wanted to speak with us the following afternoon. Wednesday, hubby got out of work, picked me up, and we went over. She was waiting in the driveway with a letter folded up. She refused to speak to us, wouldn't let us in, handed it over, and told us to leave.

Uh-oh. What do you think the letter is? This is so mafia. She just made it in her art class. She said, here you go. Take that letter.

Maybe it's a sorry letter that she made in her art class. Guys, we're being too.

Hard on her. Okay, so inside the letter, I see you. It's a macaroni necklace. There's a piece of paper that is a bunch of magazine cuttings. And it says, you messed with the wrong lady. I'm crazy. I'm coming after you. They'll never believe it was me. P.S. This is your sister-in-law, Kathy. P.P.S. This is not a threat. This is a warning. This is a warning. When I said coming after you, I meant coming... Later, I'm coming after you. You're going first, and then I'm coming after you. Legally, I had to say that. PPS, this is a threat.

The letter stated that the wedding should have been the happiest day of brother-in-law and sister-in-law's lives. That I've ignored her twice never happened. That talk of the contract is absolutely not going to happen. That sister-in-law's family doesn't care what I do now.

They just won't.

Didn't want us to ruin her wedding day, and that this feuding needed to end immediately. The letter very much attacked the.

Two of us.

It felt like she wanted this whole thing swept under the rug. We do so much for mom. Extensive yard work, painting and repairing things, dishes after every weekly dinner. Hubby wires up her artwork and helps her set up at shows, calls her daily. Brother-in-law and sister-in-law do nothing for her. They only ask her for things that they benefit from.

Hubby dropped me off and went back to mom's house. She wouldn't listen to him. She was shaking. He described it as appearing to be a panic attack. She mentioned how the cousin showed up on her Facebook too and that sister-in-law told her the recent arrest took place at a concert and was only a verbal altercation that never turned physical. Hubby said she was in a weird state going off on him, so he didn't stay. He reached out to brother and told him to call him. It's been going on five days now, and brother-in-law is still 100% ignoring hubby. We definitely have the exact copy of the police report. Though I'm sure with how strong the denial is, they'll just assume the police lied about it. Friday, hubby

tried to stop by mom's again. Again, she was in a weird attacking state, so he did not stay long. Why is she in a weird attacking state?

What does that mean? Oh, just like anonymous critter. Meow, meow, meow. Meow, meow, meow. Meow, meow, meow. We're finally at the homestretch, ladies and gents.

So, manipulative sister-in-law somehow got mom to turn against us. Hubby has preferred us not to move due to the proximity of his family, but now, with mom turned against us, I definitely want to move far away. Hubby is in agreement. I did some very light baking today. Hubby asked if he could take some to mom, and I felt so horrible, but I said absolutely not. If she wasn't against us like she is, you know I'd be the first person sending stuff over, but I just can't with how she's viewing us.

That is still sitting like a pit in my stomach.

I think aside from being viewed as the villain, my biggest frustration has been that mom doesn't feel sister-in-law needs a consequence for her behaviors. And by her thinking that way, it feels as though mom even condones those behaviors.

What a mess. And that's the end. Yikes. Dang. Yeah, that's pretty not good. Well, guys, I don't know. That story was pretty insane. It's a lot.

Honestly, put her in jail.

Jail.

I think you do, reporter.

Also, why is your brother-in-law, your husband's brother, allowing any of this? And that's the end of this story. We're going to go on to the next one. Hey, it's Keon, your favorite short king. We're going to get back to the stories, but here's three minutes of ads from our sponsors.

My new coworker was caught stealing from the company.

Somehow she still has a job. Well, I guess they liked her spunk.

We have a new coworker who just started like three months ago and puts her name on everything. We just realized that she put her name on the bottle cases of water that we keep for everyone.

She's like, oh, that's mine.

That's my spit.

That was mine.

That's my spit. That's not yours.

And this is my microwave. And this is my freezer.

And this is mine.

And that's my chair.

It's claimed. Thank you.

This is my fork. This is my spoon. Every day she leaves with a box full of items.

Actually, I'm the boss now. I claim this job.

Yeah, there's a little boss tag on the boss's desk and it has their name and she just crosses it out and she says mine. And she just puts a label or like sticker.

The punter is that she can put her name on everything but takes what I'm using while I'm still using it and then gets mad when I hide both items from her so I can still use them. Even my boss was like, well, she's the only one here right now, so she's probably using both. Mind you, it's the company's supplies, not hers. I'm seriously thinking of putting my name on the most absurd objects just to point out her ridiculous entitlement, but I'm also worried that it could be seen as a hostile work environment. And yes, we've complained to multiple bosses about it. By the way, this comes from Bikini Girl Out. And if you want to spend your own stories, go to the r slash okay story time subreddit.

I'm Savannah. I'm Sophia.

I'm Keon.

And we're here to give some good advice, Goofly, but we don't have all your answers. We're only going to tell you what we would do. Let us know what you would do down in the comments.

Please do.

As Opie says, oh, just kidding. There are some relevant comments. Comment number one says, what kind of objects does she take while you are using them? If it was something quick like a stapler, then I can understand. But if it's anything more needed, then maybe you should talk to her about it. Opie responds, it's something I need until the end of my shift. I don't care if people use them when I'm done, but to take it while I'm working is a whole other thing. It was a common courtesy to wait until we were done to take these items and I've never had an issue with letting people use them if they asked. I've had other co-workers need them and by the time they asked I was done so it never bothered me to hand them off

to the next person. Until she came along and she wouldn't ask. She would just be like oh I'm taking them and never bring them back. Com number two says, have you asked your boss if they can buy more of those common items needed to work with? And I would have called her out on it. I'm still using that.

OP responds, I feel like ordering more just plays into her game because we never had these issues until she started working for us. It was just common courtesy to wait until we were done. Then it was first come first serve. I had no problems loaning them out if people.

Asked, but she never asked. She just takes. It's just a wiener move.

The first time, I was just genuinely so shocked that she even took it from me while I was still using it. Then I was just pissed. The second time she did it, my other coworker called her out directly in front of our boss. The third time she tried, I put my foot down and said I was using them and to basically get over it. The thing is, she can't even use them until after a certain time, and she just hides anyway, so I'm not sure why she can't wait 45 effing minutes. She's still hoarding other items too. We actually had to tell on her again because she took two items when she really needed one.

She's overstocking on items for her and her only. She's also spreading rumors that we're all going to lose our jobs, so needless to say, my boss isn't happy with her right now. I just want to know what the items are.

Just tell me what the items are. Stop beating around the bush. Stop beating around my bush. And tell me what these freaking items were. Stop beating my bush. Stop beating your bush and tell me what the items were. I'm using that. Stop beating around my bush. Stop shaving your bush and tell me what the items were. So good. Oh, there's an update.

Coworker is spreading rumors that we're all going to lose our jobs six days later. We have a new person trying to start rumors that we're all going to be losing our jobs when we won't know until the summer.

Oh, so like you could actually be losing your jobs. You just don't know. Yeah, it'll be fine.

And she's been telling others that we're going to be losing our jobs. So, of course, it's starting to cause panic. She said she heard rumors from others who aren't involved in the decision-making process and it was a few months ago. So I'm assuming when she just started. So things could have changed in the meantime as well. I've heard rumors in the past, but I'm not as worried as I would have been back in September. Ask me in September and I would have said absolutely. However, we've turned a lot of our problems around and have been working insanely hard.

To turn these problems around.

I've been doing extra things when I have time, so it actually looks like we're doing work during.

The day when people can see it.

Not to brag, but that's one of the things I always get compliments on.

Good for you.

Busy and that i'm always doing something for this reason mind you i've been there for 10 plus years and i still don't know the whole truth so how would someone who just started three months ago know the truth. We brought it up to our boss that she shouldn't be spreading rumors like this considering she just started. All I said was, me and my coworkers have been here the longest and we still don't know what's going on, so why she feels the need to spread rumors is beyond me when she just started. She has no right to fearmonger. It's one thing when me and my other coworkers talk amongst ourselves, but I still don't mention it to anyone else just because I don't want to start panic.

That's so funny. Wait, I'm sorry. So OP is also engaging in this gossip, but she's like, it's one thing when I say it, but it's another thing when this girl I hate says it.

Yeah.

And she's telling everyone. And she's telling everyone. At least I'm keeping it to myself. I wanted to tell everyone. And like three other people. Yeah. And then, of course, those three other people are telling. There are three people. Yes. So, like, so on and so forth.

She's just telling too many dreams. If she keeps taking your things, just take away her life.

Just take away her bush. You have to. You take my stapler, I take your bush. You have to make some difficult calls, OP, if you want to be a leader.

They're going to see that and they're going to commend it. yeah maybe they're testing.

You yeah they're testing you op this is like when they do the scam like when a business does like sends out those fake scam emails and if you click on them then uh you get written up so like you fell for the scam wow they do that scam like i don't know i just learned about this that's stupid yeah they'll send out fake scam emails and they're like gotcha.

I do have safety plans, but I planned on leaving regardless. It's not doing her any favors, considering we've been having issues with her since she started, and my boss was not happy when we told them about the issue either. Update two, coworker damages property and steals stuff from the building, yet somehow still has a job.

One month later.

It's super frustrating that within the last week, we've caught this coworker stealing items and damaging property, and we have evidence of her.

Doing both on camera.

Yet, she somehow still has a job. We've had issues with this coworker in the past.

You mean you? I think so. Yeah, I think me thinks it's just you.

Me thinks it's just you. It's just you and maybe your bush. She's felt entitled to other coworkers' work supplies and takes them while they're actively using them. I've had to hide items from her just so she won't take them while I'm using them.

That's not solving the problem. That's just putting a bandaid over the boo-boo.

You're just hiding them. Yeah, it's stupid. OP, just ask your boss to buy more.

Or just tell her, stop.

Yeah, sorry, I'm using that.

You do it, I'm going to spray you with your water. It's your water, but I'm going to spray you with it.

Literally, I'm just telling my boss, hey, could you order double so that I can... have this and then she can have her own. So everyone has their own. You're not going to fire her.

Give her like a fidget spinner or something. That'll calm her mind.

Give her a fidget stapler.

Everyone can just get their own and then you can put like stickers on it and be like, oh, this one's mine. You know, like laptops or something. Like everyone gets one and then you just kind of make it your own.

And then no one has to complain.

You know what it's giving?

Stupid.

Well, yes. It's giving only child.

Yeah, she's like, well, it's all mine. It's giving Bush entitlement. I'm not liking that. She's taking partial cases of water that are meant for everyone and hoarded them for herself. We've complained to our bosses about her doing so as well. Other co-workers have complained about her doing other stuff that we shouldn't be doing. But I mean one time in a chat, and I get a write-up for that. Yet, the two things we fire people for on the spot, aside from spicy related intimidation... She doesn't get fired.

Relevant comments.

OP says it's sort of like why bother actually bringing up issues when you have issues with someone if nothing is going to happen, especially for major things like theft.

It just feels like theft is selective here. It also doesn't feel like she's actually stealing things from the company.

It's a loose term of borrow.

Yeah, it feels like she is taking things from other people that OP is saying, well, I was using that. And then just keeping it at her desk. That's what I'm thinking. Like not returning it after you're done using it. And then being like, well, I'm going to use it again, so I don't want to keep getting up. It would be a huge issue if she was taking it home. Yes.

And then claiming it as her own. I feel like she's not doing that.

Yeah.

Based on everything we've learned.

But I feel like the company's like, it's for the company.

Yeah.

No, it's the fact that like someone actually like, Said, oh, you just have the company by now.

And she's like, that's not the point. That's not the point. I feel like that's just letting her win. No, no, no. That's too easy. That can't be the solution. I'm building a Trojan bush. Just wait.

Opie says she's also making our lives harder by taking our stuff while we're actually working. She hides for an hour and doesn't need what we're using until a certain time.

She can wait. She doesn't even seem to use it either.

She won't let others use the item either. She makes them hunt for another item. She gets witchy when you even ask to use it. I'm generally pretty flexible. I have no problem handing this item off when I'm done. What is it?

One week later. One week later.

I made a post a few months ago about how this coworker loves to put her name on company supplies and how she takes items from others without asking. Including my own supplies and the bottled water that's reserved for everyone. I'm pretty sure that same coworker is a hoarder.

Sounds like it.

We were talking about it yesterday where she takes supplies she doesn't need and how messy her area is because she takes too many supplies. One of my other coworkers is an obsessive neat freak, and even she was commenting on how messy their location was due to the hoarding.

Well, yes, obviously. Makes sense.

My obsessive compulsive friend really says that her desk is dirty.

She's like, it's pretty messy. She's hoarding.

Uh, she also has more than two supplies.

Uh-oh. Unbelievable.

I understand having a backup for when you're almost out. I used to do something similar, where if I knew I was going to be out but didn't want to run back to the supply closet, I'd have a backup for that reason. But she'll have five big jugged bottles of certain products, and she doesn't need them and doesn't go through them as fast.

Jugs? What is this job? Jugs? Jugs? Are you like... tie dyeing. What are you doing? What are you doing? I'm really annoying.

This morning, I walked in to see her name on sticky notes on a product that's only for one of our machines. And that machine only. She doesn't need this product at all. So I took a picture of it and let my other coworker see it just so I had another witness and told her that it was only reserved for one machine only. And she ripped the sticky note off and put it back.

What do we got? I mean, I really don't know what you do, what's going on, or why you hate this woman so much. I think you know that your business is not going to do anything about it. So just get more. I ask for more items. Say, hey, like I brought this up. It is impeding my ability to do my job. So give me more, give me more, give me more. Christina says, now we got jugs and bushes.

Where does this place happen? Yeah, they work in heaven. These are angels. Oh boy. Staplers and jugs. I don't know what you're working with, but that's my advice. I just don't really. I don't know. What else could you possibly do? Do you want to hurt this woman? I don't know. What do you want? What do you want us to tell you? Yeah. What do you want, OP?

What advice do you want? Do you just want to rant?

It just, yeah, to me, it just seems like you kind of just want to go on a rant about this new girl and how she does all these annoying things, blah, blah, blah.

And obviously, since you hate her, you're going to nitpick her.

Yeah.

And I feel like that's what you're doing when, you know, just be like, hey, could.

We just get more supplies for everyone, please?

Is that weird?

Is that crazy?

Is that crazy? Crazy idea here, but maybe everyone should have their own things.

I don't know. That's a little crazy. Anyway, OP continues.

Besides, only two of us know how to use this machine, and I'm one of them. As far as I'm aware, she does not know how to use this machine, and because of her age, I don't think she's capable. We don't use this machine as much as others. It pretty much sits dormant until summer. Uh, there's no need for her to have this product. Because she took this specific product, I have a small theory she might be stealing these products to bring home. She's already been caught stealing already, so I wouldn't be surprised. There are some relevant comments.

Comment number one says, get her caught stealing. That'll solve the problem eventually if she keeps getting caught. OP responds, the sad part is we have caught her on camera stealing and she still has a job. Honestly, signing products out isn't a bad idea.

We're going to.

Talk to my boss about it again today and I might bring this up as she has to sign items out instead of whatever this is. Yes, we have an abundance of supplies, but it's also not fair that she can claim items, take hours, and we can't do the same to her because otherwise she'll pull.

The old lady card. She's an old lady. Oh, she's an old lady. I thought she was young. I thought she was young too. Oh, and that's all.

And that's the end of this story. We're going to go on to the next one.

A rival supervisor has a vendetta against me. Now we have to meet. Ooh, I'll bring cheese. I, 22 female, have been working with my company for five years. Recently, the past two months, I've been complaining about a recurring issue at work and got the most validating phone call I've ever received from a supervisor. It will explain a little about my job. so that it isn't very confusing, but I cannot give too much information. Come on! Just say it! For context, I work in an airport operations role that involves coordinating with multiple people and completing time-sensitive tasks before departures. My work takes place near the end of the process, so when delays, mistakes, or scheduling issues happen earlier on, the pressure often gets passed down to

the people handling the final stages. My company has a contract with another company, and we work in their building. We have an office, but it's in an airport, and this company we have a contract with, their location is near the airport, not directly inside. For these two months, I've been saying that one particular flight or process has unrealistic timelines. The issue isn't the work itself. The problem is that delays keep happening almost every day, which leaves the people at the end scrambling to make up for lost time. They also tend to schedule their people to come to work an hour before the flight arrives, which is the main issue I have brought up multiple times.

By the way, this comes from Sleepin' Tammy. And if you want to submit your own stories, go to the r slash showcase story time subreddit. I'm Sophia. I'm Savannah.

I'm Dakota.

And we're here to give good advice goofily. That's not Dakota. Wait, I want to be Dakota. No. I'm Dakota.

Neither of you are Dakota.

I'm Dakota.

Shoot.

Anyway, if you know anything or who these people are that I'm working with, put it down below.

I'm Dakota.

OP says, I've repeatedly pointed out that when this flight arrives early, equipment isn't ready. Items are missing. Probably the girl from the last story. Uh-oh. She's taking them. And I'm usually rushed and paperwork isn't complete or people from the other company will start later than their schedule. And because of that, the timeline becomes almost impossible. Also, I do a lot of physical work as well, and this is very important because these equipments go inside the aircraft, and if not checked or handled correctly, it will put my job at risk, and I could even end up with a criminal record. Holy crap. Oh. Oh, airport operations.

Airport jail. Airport jail. You're going to be like Tom Cruise.

Ooh.

In that movie where he's stuck in the airport. Bush jail. Oh, no, he's stuck in the airport. Oh. Yeah, they don't let him leave.

Not the right actor. Right name.

I meant Tom Hanks.

There you go.

Sorry. Oh, she got the wrong Tom. I meant Tom Hanks. I said Tom Cruise. Put him up here. Tom Hanks, right here. Sorry, I went plain Tom Cruise. But I meant airport Tom Hanks. There he is. Wait, here he is. Tom Hanks. Tom Hanks in the airport movie. He lives in an airport and they don't let him leave. This is so funny. There he's gone. Every time I brought it up, it felt like nobody really took it seriously.

My supervisor told me that he would handle it, or maybe I'm not able to handle stress. I have been doing this particular work for three years and have trained other people as well. Yesterday, I took a day off. A newer employee, let's call her Mia, female 30, who I didn't train and was trained by someone else, ended up handling that same flight and process. And apparently everything exploded. Uh-oh.

Multiple people complained. The new employee got accused of being too slow and not handling... The pressure well. One of my colleagues, let's call him John, male 44, from the other company, criticized her performance. While another supervisor, let's call him Paul, male 59, from that said company, later said that John had started late in the first place, which contributed to the situation. But he basically threw Mia under the bus and said she was extremely disorganized, unlike me, where I finish everything perfectly.

Yes. Gold star.

He's like, unlike me, I'm perfect. This is what John told me today when I came to work. I know how John works and he's known to be extremely lazy as well. We have become closer in the years and he sees me like a kid because I'm the youngest in both the companies, but I still keep my guard up since he can throw me under the bus anytime, even though he claims he would never do that. My supervisor called me last night and basically said, everything you've been saying for months is happening. Other people are finally complaining about it too. Honestly. I'm irritated about this whole situation and hopefully steps are finally being taken. And we've got an update three days later. Do you think those

steps have been taken? Three days?

No.

Three days. Do you think any steps have been taken?

No.

No one is handling this very well. Nothing. You know what? My guess. Yeah. It's gotten way worse. It's gotten way out of hand. Update three days later. Things have exploded. It's become another one. More things have exploded. Now it's really not. Anyway, my supervisor told me he's arranging a meeting with a supervisor from the other company involved in the process. What I'm a little surprised about is that he specifically wants me to attend the meeting as well.

His reasoning was that I've been raising these concerns from the beginning. I've experienced the problem firsthand, and he trusts me to explain what's actually happening on the ground.

You know what we should do? Just have a huge sign saying, I told you so. Yeah. Or just a hat saying, I told you so. I told you so.

Yeah, honestly, that caught me off guard. A few weeks ago, I felt like I was repeating myself. Now I'm being asked to sit in a meeting with supervisors and discuss the issue directly. The thing is, this top supervisor from the other company, let's call him Sean, male 35, he may appear friendly and polite outside, but he literally talks down to his own employees in a very nice, condescending way.

He also, for some reason, has a vendetta towards me in particular for God knows why. He once sent a nasty email about me to my company two years ago, but they ignored it. He never used to greet me or even glance at me.

He's probably jealous.

Yeah.

Oh, yeah.

I mean, you're a 22-year-old young woman. He's probably, yeah, jealous and also just... maybe doesn't take you seriously. Stupid son. Him or? That's what he thinks.

Him.

He's so, no, that's him. He's son. He's so stupid. I'm not here to make friends with the other company supervisors, so I was the least bothered.

Yeah, no, I just, I mean, obviously you're having the meeting, so just talk with him and be like, listen, vendetta aside, this needs to be done for anyone, not just me. Because you saw how it went when another person took my spot.

So let's go. Come on. It's go time. Let's go. Let's go. Let's work together. Come on. Let's push it up. Put this vendetta aside. I've never been someone who ignores mistakes or leaves things out of reports. If something serious happens, I document it and send it to my supervisor. That's literally part of my job. He's very protective of his own department and employees. If something goes wrong, his first instinct is often to explain it away, minimize it, or redirect attention somewhere else instead of acknowledging the problem.

Sounds healthy.

Yeah, he's like, what if we just ignored it? What if we just ignored the problem? That's the sign of a real leader. Sometimes he doesn't even know half the problems that happened under his nose, which make it even better because what do you mean you didn't know one of your employees damaged a truck and you found out two weeks later?

Wow.

Anyways, this is my situation right now and I'll be having this meeting with my supervisor and him. And that's the end of the story.

I think OP, as long as OP covers their tracks and being like, I think you're fine. It's one of those things where like, genuinely you can't do anything you can tell them and like you've been telling.

Them yeah if they're gonna ignore it they're gonna ignore it yeah it's like I don't know.

Like it's not on you don't try to blame yourself because you're trying to figure this out and you know what needs to happen and they're not there they're higher ups they're just like oh yeah well it's always worked so it should just work it should just work yeah no well sometimes it don't work like that And that's true, too.

Whatever she mad to. And that's true, too.

Whatever she's mad to.

That's the end of that story. Hey, it's Carly, your favorite Jersey girl here.

We're going to get back to the stories, but here's three minutes of ads from our sponsors.

My boss left me alone on the busiest nights, so I walked away. Where were you?

Several months ago, I picked up a side job at a local bar slash cafe. It's quite a popular place, and my sister and I used to go in a lot, since she's friendly with the landlady. We got talking about her needing help behind the bar one evening a week, and I agreed to give it a go. I was going through a bit of a stagnant phase in life and thought it could be fun and worth the extra money.

I already work full-time, but it's hybrid, so I have more flexibility around things outside the office. And she said she understood if other work commitments needed prioritizing. I'd never worked in a bar or done barista before.

And there was absolutely zero proper training. Oh, they just threw you in there? That's not good. They're like, go. You can't. How are you supposed to make a drink? Figure it out.

It's like, no one's going to teach. That's like going to Starbucks and no one is. Yeah, they're like, oh, can I get a drink? And they're like, make it.

And they're like, yes. Yeah, but you can make it. How many scoops? Wait, how many pumps? Sorry, I don't actually know how to make your drink. Which one's grande? Ariana?

My first shift, the landlady showed me where everything was and immediately got me serving customers while she disappeared off to do other things. I knew next to nothing about what wines or... had, how to measure and pour the different drinks, enter items correctly on the till, or navigate the coffee machine. I burned myself on the steamer more times than I care to remember. But the regulars gave me plenty of grace and advice... And I muddled through.

By the way, this comes from Alert Perception 6592. And if you want to spend your own stories, go to the r slash ok story time subreddit.

I'm Savannah. I'm Sophia.

I'm Sophia as Keon. Whoa.

And we're here to give some good advice goofily, but we don't have all your answers. We'd only tell you what we would do, but let us know what you would do.

Down in the comments.

As Opie says, I stuck it out since the extra cash certainly didn't hurt, but it was stressful and physically demanding even at the best of times. It was often loud and busy with live music or karaoke playing, and you'd be on your feet constantly running back and forth, bending and lifting heavy crates in and out of the dishwasher, getting your clothes and shoes soaked with adult soda. It was a tiny space behind the bar, and the landlady seemed to have zero spatial awareness, so she'd bustle in behind you to grab things while you were in the middle of serving. knocking past your elbows while you're trying to pour, squashing you into the adult soda taps, blocking you in while she stood to talk to people and

expecting you to contort around her with your hands full of pints or hot drinks. She also had a habit of telling you off for doing stuff wrong, either something she'd never bothered to show you properly or something you'd been doing the way she showed you for weeks. She'd just decide on a whim she wanted something done differently and you were expected to know and immediately correct it.

She'd pull me aside to lecture me about the most random things, like the volume I was talking at over the bar, the type of mug I used for someone's tea, or the way I arranged the candles on the table. My agreed shift was 6 to 11 p.m. close, but we often didn't finish until gone half eleven, since the landlady would let regulars stay longer or extend later orders when it was busy, knowing I'd be at work all day and was up for work again the next morning.

I got added to the staff WhatsApp group to keep up to date, and it was mostly a stream of passive-aggressive essays from the landlady randomly updating the bar rules or calling everyone out for how things were being done wrong since she didn't actually train anyone properly, it just got ignored.

Instead of planning.

Cover for events, she expected everyone to pitch in to pick up the slack, frequently asking people to stay longer or take extra hours with a constant sense of urgency and guilt-tripping, like, we really need everyone to pull together, guys. Most of the other staff were part-time with other full-time jobs or commitments like me. She'd message me individually, asking if I could do extra shifts or wait to pitch last-minute requests in person, hoping I'd say yes if she put me on the spot. A couple of times, I caved.

And conveniently, those shifts always ended up being the busiest and most stressful. There were a handful of people she let in who were barred from everywhere else in town. She never seemed bothered and wouldn't really support us if staff brought up feeling uncomfortable when they came in. In fact, she'd often enable them by giving them what they wanted.

Yeah, no. I'm sorry. If you're, especially at a bar or just any place that owns or is selling out, you have to make sure that you are, your employees are safe. Yeah, your employees are safe and feel safe. Yeah.

If there's like a weird person, you know, like coming every day and, you.

Know, it's like, oh, I got banned from all the other ones. This is the only one that lets me in.

Yeah.

Red flag. Get out. No, no, no. you're out of here.

Yeah like go drink at home go drink i don't know you can't drink here she started leaving staff on their own without notice putting her partner in charge while she went off on holiday but she knew nothing about running the place and would disappear for ages so on a busy shift you were totally on your own there were so many times i was forced to do things i didn't feel safe doing like leaving the bar and till completely unattended to make food in the kitchen or or lifting massive crates of drinks in empty glass across the slippery paved courtyard in the rain. There was no planning for the volume of customers, and we could easily have 30 plus people packed into the bar area on an evening. The last few months, I was under a

huge amount of unexpected stress from my regular job, so I think the landlady could tell I was getting burnt out, but she rarely tried to check in. I went through a phase of suffering panic attacks quite badly a few years ago, and I had my first one in ages in the middle of a shift when.

Nobody was around to help.

I also kept breaking out in odd rashes, probably from stress.

Girl, you gotta quit. You simply must quit.

You're breaking out in hives, girl.

Yeah, we're out of here.

You don't owe them anything.

Yeah. If you are ever in a situation where literally you dread, you dread going to work, or you dread doing a certain thing to the point where you're Breaking down hives? It's not worth it.

I guarantee you, OP's getting nightmares.

Oh, for sure.

I remember with one of my jobs, it was just like, why am I having nightmares or dreaming about my job and stressing out?

In high school, my dad signed me up to be part of the church choir. Not like the student choir. Your dad? The adult choir. So this was like the kind of more professional choir and stuff. And you could just, anyways, like volunteer. And I was just, I was not a good enough singer to be singing that high of a song.

And they had me sing, like, it was like, it was like high. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, it was an opera, but they were high songs and they were not in my range. And literally every Sunday, dreaded. I was like, oh, this is my, like, weekly humiliation. Because it's a big church. I'm singing, and I was always so quiet. And everyone in the church band, the church group, they were nice. But they're always like, sing a little louder.

I'm like, no. Yeah, I'm like, I can't hear you. I'm not singing. I'm not singing. You're not going to hear me.

And the medication for it was making me incredibly nauseous if I didn't eat at regular intervals. Which I wasn't doing.

Or sleeping.

I kind of hit rock bottom after a horrendous couple of weeks at work around November. Big organizational changes dropped on us without warning. Multiple days of overtime, more and more, piled on me while everyone else involved was conveniently out of office. I asked Landley if I could swap out my next shift to give me a break. which I absolutely hate doing, and she told me she wasn't going to be there, so couldn't help me out.

Aye, aye, aye. She's the worst. And that's when it's like, okay, so no one's going to show up then. Yeah. Like, we're just not there. I'm not there.

Yeah.

If you can't help me out, I'm not there.

No one else was available, so I had to go in, and it ended up being one of the busiest nights I'd had. Her partner, of course, nowhere to be seen, so I was left to drown. Within the first hour, some of the regulars kept coming to ask if I was okay, because I must have looked on the verge of a breakdown. I couldn't hold a glass steady or make eye contact when they spoke to me. At some point, the landlady's.

Partner decided to appear to grab his coat, told me he was.

Going home to have dinner, and effed off until closing. No more than two days later, I got a message from the landlady asking if I was available to take an extra shift that Saturday, and that broke me. I told her no, but that I'd drop in to see her after work. I think she could tell something was up, because when I came in and asked for a chat, she pretty much immediately and bluntly asked if I wanted to quit. I was quite stunned by her attitude, not sure if she was angry or if I should be angry about her being angry, but I kept my cool and we had a brief conversation. She didn't put up any fight, just offered to keep me on the group chat in case I ever wanted to pick up the odd shift here and there. I told her I needed

some time to think about that. I stayed for a quick drink and went home to enjoy my weekend off. It's been about a month and a half and I haven't been in or heard anything from the landlady. Just before Christmas... My sister convinced me to go in for a drink where I very briefly saw the landlady who immediately goes, oh, hi, so when are you coming back then?

I just laughed it off and ignored her as I currently have no intention of going back.

Yeah, this is, this is crazy.

I feel really bad for Opie, but it does seem like, you know, you're kind of like me. It's like, I don't want to screw you, but I also don't feel comfortable doing this. but I'm going to do it anyway because I feel obligated to.

That's me. Yeah. And you really just have to, you have to stand up for yourself because no one else will.

And then at that point, there comes a breaking point.

And that's exactly what happened at my old job.

There came a breaking point and he was like, you know, it's either you do this or this.

And I was like, yeah, I'm going to do this. I'm going, I'm leaving.

Very easy OP. You go in for your shift, you take a drink and you go, I quit.

Exactly.

And then you leave. You leave. And it's just like, I don't know.

You don't owe anyone really anything. Even if you are like, you know, working at a job, whatever. But if it is costing you your literal health, no.

No.

If it's costing emotional and physical health, like you were getting a rash, you were having nightmares.

You couldn't even hold a glass without shaking. If any, if any time, that is the time to leave. And also, yeah. And also customers asking if you're okay. That's how you know. Oh, you guys saw that too.

Yeah.

Now it's not just me. Now it's affecting, you know. Yeah. The business.

Yeah.

So it's, yeah. We're gone. We gotta be done.

I've just got back from a weekend away seeing the rest of my family and am straight back at work. Then I look at my phone and notice a message from the landlady asking if I'm free the next day, New Year's Eve, to come in and do a shift in the middle of the day because apparently she has loads of staff off and can't find anyone and she's desperate.

It's the meme. It's literally the meme of like, can you work this day? No.

There's a meme.

There's a meme where it's like, hey, can you work this day? No. Wait, I want to see that meme.

No, I can't.

Pull that up.

I can't. Pull that up while I read. I'm sorry, I can't. I can't do that.

No.

Then.

She tops it off with, and let's have a chat about you coming back the new year. I'm completely dumbfounded since she's not even reached out until now and it's a normal weekday so she knows I'm working. I just ignored the message and later noticed it had been deleted from the chat history. My sister went in for a drink there last night and messaged me saying the landlady was asking about me and that she missed me yesterday.

Sure thing. Why is she acting like, you know, you broke up with her and she's like a, you know.

I just don't like these people who completely take advantage of others. That is my number one pet peeve. Besides people complaining and doing nothing about it.

So this will be my second one.

Is when people take advantage of people who are kind and do a good job. It's like, oh, I can exploit that. Now I'm going to have you do this since you're really good. Now I'm going to have you do this. That has been my entire life. Has been like, oh, you're really good at this? All right, let's make you do five more things until you're burned out and hate this.

If you just let them, you know, if they let you do it, then, yeah. Oh, I have seen that. That's crazy. Good luck, though. Damn, that's crazy. We're short-staffed for tonight. Oh, that's crazy. Good luck, though. That's crazy.

Yeah.

Just crazy.

Personally, I don't think I'll be going back in there for a good long while.

Or ever, OP. Please don't go. So go. Stop. It's just, no, it's not worth it.

Why would you go back to a place that has caused you so much trauma, has brought back your panic attacks?

Like, no, I'm all right, actually. You don't need the job. I would never, never. You couldn't pay me enough to do that. It really feels like OP, like if OP ever did consider it, it would just be because they felt so pressured.

Yeah, exactly.

And that's me.

It's like I really like I want to say no so bad.

Yeah.

But I feel obligated and I feel like, you know, I feel bad. She is short staffed. You know, nobody else can make it. She just needs help for a few hours. Like, no, it would be that bad. It would be that I have time. Should I put myself in this situation? You know, and the answer is no.

Yeah. The answer is take care of yourself. The answer is no. You're good. You're good. Save yourself the trouble and save her the trouble. Save her the trouble.

Like she's just going to literally what would happen if you would have went in, Opie, you would have stayed till midnight.

You would have been there.

You know, it's like it's supposed to be day shift, whatever. You start at 11 p.m. You'd probably leave by midnight. And then she'd be like, oh, I'm sorry.

It just was so busy.

I had to go do things. And then no one else can, you know, help out. So no wonder nobody wants to work there. Also, New Year's Eve? Yeah.

No thanks. That's the worst time to go. Yeah, worst time to be working in a bar, too. No, sorry. I want to throw a New Year's party. But that's the end of this story.
