Hey, this is Dakota. And this is Keon, your favorite OK Storytime host, and we've got some great stories coming right up. But before that, we have a quick two-minute break from the sponsors that keep the show alive. My bio parents suddenly want me after giving me up years ago.

Too little, too late.

So before I talk about the dilemma, let me talk about my background. I'm 24, and I grew up living in group homes. Ooh. If you don't know what a group home is, it's basically a smaller orphanage. Living in a group home was rough. We generally weren't guaranteed meals and we shared literally everything. So if we got new clothes, we had 10 other kids fighting over it. If we got pizza, we had 10 kids fighting over it. When I was 11, I became close with this kid from school.

He invited me over to his house for a couple sleepovers, and his parents would notice how much I was eating. I would completely pig out despite being relatively skinny. There were a couple of other things they noticed about how I behaved that were very weird. They realized I was probably being underfed and decided to take action. Eventually, they took me in, and I never looked back.

W parents.

Yeah.

Truly like angels.

By the way... This comes from a deleted user. And if you want to submit your own stories, go to the r slash OK Storytime subreddit. I'm Dakota.

I'm Sophia. And I'm Savannah.

And we are here to read this story and give our little tidbits, little good advices, little goofball thoughts. But we need you to tell us what you would do because we only know what we would do. We want to hear. OP says, so today I'm 24 and I'm working a nice desk job. I'm generally happy and I'm still close with my adopted parents. My bio parents reached out two weeks ago and were relieved when I responded.

We ended up setting up a meeting yesterday. I was already quite hesitant to meet them, but only did it because my mom and dad said it could be worthwhile. So we sat down and talked over lunch. They told me they gave me up because they didn't want to be parents. They were in their mid-20s and married. The only reason they gave me up was because they weren't ready for parenthood. After this, I pretty much gave up on being civil and I started making snide comments like, oh, so I was ready for group homes?

Hmm.

I was being pretty rude and my bio mom was fighting tears.

Good.

After they told me I have a brother, I said, oh, okay. So you were ready enough to be a parent, but weren't ready enough to check on your son. Cool. I had enough. I paid the bill and I left. I was very angry.

Yeah.

And told my adopted mom what happened. She said that I should go easier on them since it probably took a lot to reach out and apologize. She went on and on about how she'll support me no matter what, but she thinks I'm acting a bit harsh. My bio parents called and asked if we could meet again and talk more. My mom thinks that it could be beneficial now that my initial emotions are out there. If I think I was acting like an a-hole and my mom thinks I'm acting like an a-hole, I probably am an a-hole.

Am I the a-hole?

Wow.

Too many a-holes in there. I don't know.

I don't even think that's what your mom really was saying.

No, I think she said you were acting harsh, which personally, I think you have every right to feel this way. But if you feel that you acted too harsh and would like to act a different way, then that is your own prerogative.

I mean, I'd be so pissed off at the brother.

Yes.

Because then it's like, OK, so you had the brother. Where did you didn't come back to get me?

Yeah, I truly don't think they have any right to come back and and want to just restart things. That is completely your decision and up to you. You can decide.

I don't ever want to see you guys again.

Or, you know, maybe we can maybe we can have some sort of relationship. That is your decision. One thousand percent.

Yeah. I mean, maybe they have some stronger reasons that they just weren't saying or something. I don't know. But just being like, yeah, we were in our mid-20s. We weren't ready to be parents.

Yeah, mid-20s is tough, too. It's like, oh, mid-20s? That's when a lot of people have kids.

Yeah, you're kind of never really ready, right? That's the whole thing.

Yeah.

Yeah. Oh, you're fighting tears? I remember when I fought for love and food, but whatever.

I don't think that you are the a-hole in the slightest.

Yeah, I think your mom is right, though, in that now that your initial very, like, understandable and justified, like, anger and frustration has just been laid out there, you can probably have a more nuanced conversation with them now if you want.

If you want that.

Edit. I am meeting them again this Friday. This time, my mom is coming with me. I let them hear my perspective, and now I'm gonna do my best to listen to hear them out. I think my mom being there will make it a lot easier. She is a calming presence, and I would hate for her to see me lose my temper. Also, a couple of people suggested developing a relationship with my half-brother, and I'm vague. vehemently against that for a couple personal reasons. And we have that update. Let's see what happened. Five days later, as per my update, I did meet with my bio parents again with my adopted mom. This meeting went very differently.

Yeah, I imagine having someone who supported you next to you is very helpful.

I think having someone calm as the mediator who kind of knows what has happened.

This meeting, they wanted to hear about my experiences in group homes. I talked about it and I got a little emotional. That was one of the few times in my life I shared what happened and it was tough. So I told my stories and my bio mom again got teared up. So they told me how they never intended for me to be put in that situation when they had someone adopt me. They explained more about my adoption process and I was more understanding of their reasons.

My bio parents deeply apologized and told me they didn't know that my life turned out that way. Things started lightening up and I started telling them more about my current life. I told them about my college years and some of my accomplishments. Me and my mom told a few funny stories about me and it was nice. I had a good time. I think having a middle man, middle woman, my mom, was helpful. On to the part a lot of people were wondering about. A lot of people wondered why they reached out now. We talked about that.

So there's two reasons. They want to have my name included in my grandpa's will. I'm their first grandchild among six children, so they did want to leave something significant. I don't know how to feel about it, especially considering I don't know them at all. Money is money, but it feels weird accepting it from them. Whoa. Also feels weird that everyone else in their family knows I exist and never reached out.

Yeah, that is a really, really tough realization. But were they told not to? Essentially, it could have been a closed adoption. It could have been something like that. There are reasons, you know, there are things around that. Yeah, to not check in, it would be tough to hear for OP, I'm sure.

Yeah, it's just, I just don't, I need an explanation as to why when you had, if I'm OP, I'm like, when you had my brother.

Why did you not come back?

Yeah, where were, yeah.

To give them some benefit of the doubt, it seems that OP said they had OP adopted, like they went through an adoption process and found a parent.

Yeah, like something wasn't right.

Yeah, so something did happen. Adoptive parents, I guess, handed OP off to group homes. Something did not work out as was planned. However, OP has every right to be like, like, screw you guys. Like that, you have every right to feel that way.

The other reason was that they told my brother about me. He's been pushing to contact me and meet me. I told them I'm not yet sure about meeting him, but it's definitely a possibility. And here's another interesting outcome, though. I learned I'm mostly Greek and I have a lot of relatives in Greece. My parents offered to set me up a trip to Greece to explore and meet my family.

Probably decline for other reasons, but that is besides the point. My adopted parents are Italian, so it's cool knowing where I'm really from. Hey, you were basically right next door.

Yeah, super close, super close.

Hey, we're almost at the end here. Have your adopted mom be a mediator when you talk to your biological parents for the first time in 24 years.

Absolutely. I am very happy that you are having a productive conversation. And also, feel your emotions how you need to feel them. Don't let anyone tell you that your emotions are not valid. Because they are. And maybe get therapy.

Probably always therapy, you know, a little bit. Couldn't hurt, right? Overall, letting them speak and really explain themselves helped things. I think they did have good intentions by reaching out, and I don't know if I want to have a relationship, but I'm at peace with everything. A lot of people suggested therapy, and I will be attending therapy starting two weeks from now. I think I've tried for too long to just handle things on my own, and I'm hoping I can change some things about myself. Things changed, and I appreciate the advice and understanding that story.

Good work, OP.

I don't know what checking in on the adoption status. I don't know how that works.

I mean, if it's a closed adoption, you might not be able to or like find them.

Seems a little silly that once they were ready to have kids, they were like, hey, should we find the first one?

Nah, probably, probably fine.

Probably not.

He's probably good.

So I wonder if he was adopted by somebody and then that person just like immediately just tossed him out.

It seems like it, or at least when he was old enough for some sort of group home situation. They're like, oh, bye. Like he was no longer a baby and they're like, hmm.

Oh, gross.

There's probably people that do that.

There are people.

Adopted baby, grew up to toddler, toss it in the group home, try to get another baby. They're like, what happened to the first one? Like it started talking.

It started having opinions and I didn't like that.

I just didn't like its voice. Hopefully the next one will have a better voice.

Oh, you're not getting an X1. What are they cooking down there? It smells like a breakfast dish. I think I said breakfast.

There's definitely potatoes in there.

Sounds good. But we've got another story. My in-laws wanted us to travel their way with our newborn, so I refused.

You need to put the newborn in a cage?

My husband and I are going to be traveling soon to attend his sister's wedding. along with her one-year-old son. The plan was that we would land at his parents' place and attend one of the wedding ceremonies there. A few days after that, there's another wedding reception in my sister-in-law's soon-to-be-husband's city. My in-laws plan to book a few train compartments for the entire family and an Airbnb for the stay there, two to three days. I really don't want to be in a confined space with my in-laws for the long, especially with my son. My in-laws and I used to be cordial with each other until my son was born. A few weeks after delivery, my mother-in-law and sister-in-law visited us to help. All they did was

find any opportunity to hold him, regardless of whether he was asleep or in my arms. criticizing me for being too clingy with him when I would put my foot down. And I basically started locking myself in my room with him. That sounds so fun.

Literally basic baby 101. If the baby's sleeping, don't touch it. Don't wake it up.

Don't wake it up, silly. They would lament how poor my cooking was and how sorry they felt for their poor son slash brother who had to endure it. These people suck. These people stink. okay, why is the lady trying to take care of her one-year-old baby? I'm gonna cook for all of them. Until both my husband and I had enough. And my husband hinted heavily that they had overstayed their welcome. By the way, this comes from largechallenge6242.

And if you want to submit your own stories, go to the r slash okstorytime subreddit and op says. Since then, I get hounded for not sending enough pictures and videos of him and how I dress him. I'm so grateful we're far enough away that we see them rarely. I told my husband a couple of days ago that I'd rather we just fly from his parents' place to the other city and just stay at a hotel while we attend the second ceremony. My husband said that would make us look snobbish, that he himself wasn't over the moon about the whole itinerary, but it was a family event and we should be with family. The fact that he wasn't into it frustrated me even more. We got into an argument, his mother and sister's stay got rehashed, and

I told them he was choosing to make me uncomfortable rather than potentially risk his family being affronted. Am I the a-hole? We've got an update!

Nah, I was on your side ever since you went. My husband heavily hinted they overstayed their welcome. Use your words. Let's not make it a game of Clue, buddy. Let's tell them they're out of line.

Oh, sorry. Sorry, you can't stay here anymore, actually.

Welcome revoked, actually. You can just take your.

Stuff and head on out. But we got an update. No, OP, I don't think you're the ale.

And your husband's probably just like, well, if I say anything, they're going to do it to me.

They're going to be mad at me.

I don't want to have to deal with it. Come on.

He's like, you're way more reasonable than they are.

But like, if this is how you're going to react, especially when it has to do with your child, I'd be like, hmm.

So you're not going to stand up for me or your kid? Yeah, like we're your family now. Yeah. That's your extended family. You're just going to let your parents run, run all over us?

Yeah, ain't nobody's waking up the baby.

Don't touch that baby. After reading comments in my original post, I had decided that taking the flight with my son rather than the train was non-negotiable, and I hoped to convince my husband for three of us to stay at a hotel. I brought up the topic with him again and said that a 22-hour train ride wasn't fair to our son. He's been doing really well recently with his sleep cycle, and messing that up for my in-law's sake wasn't right. Regardless of what they ended up thinking, I was firm about it.

I don't know, dude. Babies love trains.

Babies do love trains.

22 hours?

Maybe not, but they do love trains.

If there's one thing I know about the youngins.

They love a train.

They love a choo-choo.

He finally agreed. I thought it meant my son and I would be taking the flight and my husband the train, but he said he'd be taking the flight with us. He's like, well, now that you've put it that way, I also really don't want to spend 22 hours on a train with my family. He said the long train ride would be horrible for him without us. And that his family would bring up me taking the plane. And he didn't want to be around for that.

Dude, shut up. Your family brings up her taking the plane. You go, yeah, she took the plane because she's got a baby. We have a baby.

We have a baby. Well, I think he's just like, I don't want to have to hear them. So I'm also going to take the plane. And then they can complain all they want. But we both took it.

Just it's just annoying because it i hear that and it's it's him going well i don't want to be around them because then i'd have to defend you.

Yeah yeah that's what i'm thinking he's not he's not doing it for the right reasons he's doing it like i don't want to have to deal with them alone usually they just bag on you and i just watch now they're gonna bag on me what am i supposed to do defend myself for 22 hours and it's.

Like she's like i've been defending myself for however long we've been.

Married yeah like that's the reason you're you're not taking it for the right reasons I was really happy and decided to bring up hotel accommodations, and he agreed to that too, saying that his family were already going to be mad at us for taking the flight, so at this point we might as well make ourselves comfortable.

When he told his parents about this, they did not take it well. My mother-in-law complained about how everyone was looking forward to playing with and entertaining our son, that it was a family event and it wouldn't be fun without us.

Oh, pause.

Yeah.

My mother-in-law even suggested to him, Opie's husband, that I could take the plane and my husband and son take the train. Are you dumb?

Yeah, fully dumb. You're not getting it. You're not getting it.

It's not about me. It's about the freaking baby, dum-dum.

The baby with a delicate sleep schedule. We just got kind of a rhythm on.

The baby doesn't want to take a 22-hour train ride. These people are thick.

It's just annoying, dude. And if you don't call your mom for that, be like, what do you mean by that? What are you implying by that?

But my husband shut that down. Said that our son doesn't react well to having his normal routine disrupted and we'd see them there. So that's that. This has been such a weight off my shoulders since we're taking the flight. We'll be there a day before everyone else and can tour the city by ourselves. I also hope we can avoid having to go to the Airbnb for everything. Like they're gonna expect us to have breakfast, lunch, dinner with them.

But I'd rather we do our own thing for the meals. At least breakfast. But still, this has been such a relief. And we have a second update. Oh boy.

I hope this ends with your husband being like, I will no longer tolerate blatant disrespect of my wife. Or you will not have access to any member of my family.

Yeah, I need him to like stop tiptoeing around the point. Update. A while ago, I had posted about whether it would be okay if my husband and I abandoned his family's plan of a 22-hour train ride and a shared Airbnb. And the comments had given me the confidence to convince my husband to make our own plans. I just like would never do a 22 hour train ride. Just wouldn't do that. I would.

I feel like it'd be really fun. I've never done a train ride though. So maybe I would be like, but I feel like you can like stretch your legs, walk around, you know?

If I had my own cabin, maybe.

Depends on the train.

If it's like the Amtrak cross country thingy, maybe.

I would never take a 22 hour train in the States.

Well, the Amtrak is nice.

I just, yeah, dude, no.

Have you ever seen the things about the Amtrak though? not really it's like a whole it's like obviously not fast it's about the same price I think as a plane ticket but it's more of like the experience and you get like a nice little cabin yeah I'd rather just.

Drive me too in the states but if I'm in Europe like yeah put me on the train from Spain to freaking Poland man.

No, I still wouldn't take a 22-hour train.

I'd get off at some point.

Well, see, I'm thinking it's like Harry Potter when they go on that train. That's not 22 hours. That's from London to Scotland. Well, no, but I'm saying, is that the experience? That's what it looks like? Or no? Again, even if it looks like that.

To be clear, are you asking if the experience is everyone rides a magical train that takes them to magic college?

No, it just looks pretty outside. You're training through Scotland. You're training through Scotland? Well, not in this story, but is that what you're asking?

I'm saying, like, is that what the trains look like? Like, would that be the train experience?

I gotta say, the odds of it being a whimsical wizard train on the inside, probably not very high. That's not what I'm saying.

I'm saying like the inside, like, does it like, would it be cool or, you know, like.

Or is it like cramped? To be clear, that's exactly what I just answered. I find it very unlikely that it would have the vibe of the Harry Potter train on the inside.

The Hogwarts.

Is exactly what I said.

Look, okay, wait. If it's like... No, I think we understand what you're asking now.

We know.

We know what you're saying.

Is it like this? Probably. You know, like, this doesn't seem too bad.

It's probably more like that.

You got leg room. You got... I've taken long trains all around Europe. They're very nice. I still don't want to be on them for 22 hours. Okay, well, I feel like I'd like it. We came back from the trip last night and are back at our house now. After attending the first event in my in-laws' city, we had booked our flight for the second event for the same day as my in-laws had booked their train so that we wouldn't have to mind their house. We reached there a day before them and spent that day, just the three of us, touring the city. My in-laws arrived a couple of hours later than scheduled, but said the trip was immense fun. However, my husband spoke to a cousin who he's close with and who was on the train,

And he spilled some tea. He said it was all fun for the first eight hours. Honestly, pretty good.

Almost 50%?

Yeah, almost 50% of the time with this insane family was pretty good.

Well, wait, it was two hours late. So it's actually, that's a third.

Minus all the time you're like probably sleeping.

Okay, so no, it's back to half.

True.

If you got a good eight hours of train sleep.

Then old fights regarding inheritance and who'd been wrong by who 30 years ago got rehashed, which spoiled the mood. Is to be talking about inheritance someone is just like oh yeah i'm gonna go get something neat when's grandma gonna give up all of her stuff i also think it's really funny that op's husband's family was like oh we had such a fun time on the train sucks for anyone who didn't get to go on the fun train ride.

Yeah i would have been like oh well that's great because i remember you told us you weren't gonna have any fun unless we were on the train too yeah so i'm glad that that wasn't.

True He also said, According to that comment, and not be so wasteful when it comes to money for me and our son. We only met them for lunch and had breakfast at the hotel despite their insistence because we wanted to relax and sleep in. According to that cousin, some of those fights had continued overnight at the Airbnb.

The second wedding event went well. My husband and I had to put our foot down, though, because my mother-in-law would ask for my son and then hand him over to some random relative and be confused when he would start crying.

Well, there it is. I bet they're all happy he's putting his foot down like a man. Or is that only in the context of when it's with his wife?

Yeah, don't put your foot down with us. Okay, look at these ones. Like, that looks so fun. Well, that's what I'm saying. That's like the Amtrak. Swivel chairs, are you kidding me? Or, like, if I want to lay down, like, ugh. And look, you just are outside. It's all bright and nice. Well, look at, look up the Amtrak. These are Amtrak.

Oh yeah.

Okay.

That's, it looked like it.

Yeah.

And then like, this one's like more of a cabin, like, you know, and I'm sure like something, all these other ones, like you can get like.

There's, there's one. Well, they will say anytime the train is more about the experience of being on the train and looking outside, it tends to be equal or more than a flight.

Yeah. Yeah.

So it's like, oh, why would I not just fly?

They're a little pricey.

And FLB says Amtrak is not that nice, Sophia. I've seen the, I've watched the Amtrak videos. I got super into that. I was watching people like take the Amtrak and some of the, most of the train is actually quite nice.

When was this, when was this Amtrak revival happening?

It's mostly just Sophia. She's a big YouTuber.

No, I said, when did this hell happen?

Like the cross-country one?

Yeah.

I don't know. But the cross-country one has a really nice viewing seats and stuff.

They must have done this boy up recently.

My 30th, my dirty 30, I would like to go to Jersey because Jersey Shore love my Jersey 30.

What if we all took an Amtrak, guys? All of us together, Amtrak? Probably be a long time, but like, what? 35-hour ride on Amtrak's Coast Starlight. Specifically, it's the Starlight train. I should have been more specific. Let me type that one. But that one is supposed to be like very nice. I'm not talking about any Amtrak.

I'm going to say cross country. The ticket for that train is probably like $ 800. Oh, yeah.

It's probably super expensive. Oh, no.

Yeah, it's they're not. It's not like it's like a discount option.

Long distance, around $ 200, but private sleeping rooms cost significantly more.

Right.

Yeah, so if you didn't get a room, it would be about $ 100 to $ 200.

You don't need a room to go from LA to New Jersey.

How long?

The train is my room.

35 hours for the full trip.

35?

Yeah, for the full trip. You don't have to stay on the train, but it's just like if you want to go from the whole trip. This is the starlight. That's what I was thinking of, to be clear.

Cool.

Oh, I would like that. There's double. You and your significant other can sit and make out right in front of the trees. It's supposed to be like- Look at this one. It's like a Denny's. Oh my God, that's like the Polar Express. They're doing hot chocolate right now on these tables.

Hot, hot.

Oh, we got it. There's a Polar Express train in California.

No way.

Yeah, they do it every Christmas. It's like 70 bucks. It's not like a super, you're not like- Yeah, look it up. It's 70 bucks. It's just the experience and they have a hot chocolate.

You coming? Yeah, coming.

But I think it's only like an hour train ride. You do have to like go up. It's like near San Francisco or something.

I need a Tom Hans impression so I can say that line when he's the hobo.

There's more of the story, folks. We're almost done. Neither of our families live in our city, so we don't have a ton of relatives visiting us regularly, thankfully. Just our friends. So he's just not used to so many people, which we were told is bad parenting. After this happened a couple of times, we took turns with him and stopped letting our relatives take him. Their return ride on the train was yesterday afternoon. Our flight was in the evening.

They're still on the train on their way back. I sincerely wanted to thank everyone who backed me up in my first post. I don't know how I would have handled it. And that is the end of that story.

Man, I would have handled it so much worse.

Stop it! The Polar Express!

Ha ha!

Oh, we got it!

Ha ha!

Yeah, we got it!

Yeah!

They had a Polar Express in St. Louis I almost worked at.

I wanted to do it with Sam last year, but we didn't have time. I'm totally doing this. Guys, we should all do it. I would be super down.

You need to bring your rocks that you got.

I would be incredibly down to do this.

Oh, okay.

I'll bring them tomorrow. My sister started a drama just because she wasn't invited to be my bridesmaid.

Well, I want what I want.

As background, I, 28, female, am adopted and have not always gotten along with my siblings. My younger sister, Kat, 24, is adopted as well, and it has allowed us to bond quite a bit in our young adulthood. My older sister, Bev, 38, and I, on the other hand, have always had a very rocky relationship, to the point where we have had to be physically pulled apart. Oh, like conjoined twins. Y'all are really rocky. I guess that's more surgically pulled apart. Anyway, I moved out of my parents' house at 18 to avoid living with Bev. Since then, there are times where she completely refuses to talk to me and will try to take passive-aggressive jabs at me on Facebook, which she will delete after she is certain I have seen it.

In our family group chat, she will talk crap about me to people or delete me off everything until she needs something. For example, one time she got pissed that I was pregnant and she wasn't.

Oh boy.

There's a real easy fix for that. Just get pregnant, girl. She also already had a kid at this time. She found out that I was having a girl and posted all over Facebook about it the week before my gender reveal.

Yeah, at that point, information diet and maybe you're blocked on Facebook too.

If I have a kid, I'd do a gender reveal party. And when the balloon pops, the confetti would just be black. And it'd be like, no one's finding out till it's born.

It's just black.

Gotcha.

You're not going to know until he's 18 or 19. She has a say in it. We don't know anything.

A few months later, when she found out she was also pregnant, she admitted that she had done this on purpose because of her jealousy.

No.

Wow. And a little jealousy baby.

A jealousy baby. How beautiful. Are you going to name the baby Jealousy? Her gender reveal came out green. Jelest.

Oh, Jelest.

This is my daughter Jelest.

Oh. Don't you Jelest me, dude. By the way, this comes from DarkPrincessJ. If you want to submit your own stories, go to the r slash OKStoryTime subreddit. And OP says, green and someone in a shriek costume comes running out.

Presumably Shrek.

Shriek.

Yeah. Shriek. Yeah.

My babies are shriek.

Favorite character is shriek. It's just a guy in a green suit with the mouth cut out and he just goes, oh, oh, shriek. Gotta love classic shriek, dude.

He goes shriek in a Scottish accent. Shriek. I'm shriek.

Donkey.

No, except donkey is actually.

What's the exact opposite of Eddie Murphy? Matt Smith. I think I nailed that actually.

Donkey.

That's what comes out.

They shoot the gender reveal cannon. I'm trying to get a Matt Smith impression. I'm working on it. We'll come back to that.

OP says she has changed my name in her phone to something along the lines of lying money user. Wow. Discovered as she was showing me something on her phone.

Crazy.

No, I do not know why she has me as that, considering I pay for everything I have and will treat her kids to things all the time. There are many other instances like this. Anytime that she is called out for these things, she will completely act innocent and try to play it off as the victim. Usually someone is just misconstruing things or purposefully making her seem like she did something wrong. I do understand that misunderstandings happen, but when she has a little smirk on her face when she first gets confronted and when she gets her way, it makes it very obvious that she's doing it all on purpose. She has the habit that when she isn't the center of attention, she thrives on the drama that

she creates. Back to my current dilemma. Now that we've got all the character background info on why your sister is terrible. I wanted to call your sister Jalest.

Jalest, no.

And that's what we'll do. We're going to call your sister Jalest now. No, it's Bev. That was her name.

I guess Jalest could be Jalest Jr.

I hope. Jaleste is not her daughter, to be clear.

It's her daughter Jaleste.

Name her Geneva.

Geneva on the lake.

I am now planning my wedding. My mom had asked me a month ago who I was going to have in my lineup. I told her that I wanted a few of my close friends and Kat. She asked if I was planning to ask Bev as well. I told her that I hadn't asked anyone yet, but no.

No.

And drama.

Drama.

Weddings are stressful enough and I don't want to add stress to it. So I want to enjoy planning my wedding and getting married to the love of my life. Am I the a-hole if I stick to my decision and do not ask Bev to be a bridesmaid? There's an update.

I'm just gonna just gonna say one thing. She named you in her phone?

Money you uh lying money user stealing money user.

So yeah that that's it that's all i wanted to say that is it yeah does that answer your question.

I named my something my my mom something mean on my phone when i was in high school Because I was really mad at her.

Yeah, maybe you should just point out. Be like, have you seen sister's contact for me? That's interesting. She's probably going to change it now.

Yeah.

She's going to be like, lying money user who doesn't think I'm pretty enough to be her bridesmaid.

I hate her. I hate her. It's just really long.

Ugly bride who I hate.

She's the worst. I had a baby because I'm jealous. And I named it Jalest.

That's her. Aww. Yeah, yeah.

It's like those acronyms that people wear on shirts. And it's like W-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D.

And she's just like, L-M-U-W-I-H-A-I-N-M-D-J.

Lying money user who I hate and I named my daughter Jalest.

Yeah! Yeah!

We got there!

Well, we have an update. Hey, it's Dakota, your favorite rat brain host here. And we're going to get back to the stories soon. But here's three minutes of ads from our sponsors. I have very much stood my ground and have officially asked all of my bridesmaids. Last week, Bev made sure to ask who my bridesmaids were in front of my mom. We weren't even talking about it or anything related to it. In fact, we were talking about a car show my dad was in the day prior.

My mom already knew who my bridesmaids were, and she stayed quiet as I told Bev. Bev made a comment about being upset, and then made a comment about my colors, saying she wouldn't use gold, which I'm not, and I never said I was.

I think that's when you go, good idea, Bev.

I actually, I agree with Bev on that. I feel like gold in the wedding is tacky.

Good job, Bev. You nailed that.

A few days later, my fiance made a joke in the family group and she went off about how she doesn't like some of the people in the group and left the chat. This is a 40-year-old woman, by the way.

Phew.

This is not a 16-year-old girl.

With a child and another child on the way.

I guess she's 38, but... A few minutes later, she blocked me on Facebook and sent me long texts on my phone about how I'm the reason she left that chat. And how I've done nothing but hurt her and that I don't care about anyone but myself. I sent the text to my mom and told her that I was officially done with Bev. Dude, I would have just replied to Bev with an image of a projector.

Yeah, you go... And she goes, what does that mean? What does that mean?

I'd be like, that's you.

That's you.

And she's like, I don't understand.

I don't know what you're saying.

My mom called me and lectured me on how Bev feels and that she cried over my bridesmaid decision and feels that I don't care about or appreciate her. I don't.

That's exactly right.

I kind of don't at this point.

I'm glad she feels that way. It means it's working.

I'd be like, mom, ask her why she wants to be in the bridal party of the lying money user. See what she says to that.

I'll wait.

They both tried to use a hospital incident against me where I didn't go up to the hospital to see her. However, I had taken a whole week off to take care of her and her kids. When I questioned my mom about what I've done that is so wrong and is constantly hurting Bev, my mom could not give me an answer. Oh.

Because there isn't one.

I guess there's just not anything there.

I guess the answer is that there is no answer to that other than, wait, I guess that's not right.

I guess that's not right. Just give me a second. I'll think of one. Beth didn't tell me of any reasons why. She just said she was upset.

She cried.

Does it count if she cried?

I took this opportunity to re-explain that this situation and the way Bev is behaving is the exact reason why I don't want Bev involved in my wedding. We didn't yell at each other, and I think my mom has now come to the understanding that I will stand my ground on this and begrudgingly respects my decision. Listen to us in the car. Listen to us at the bar.

Listen to us in El Mar. Listen to us in the car.

Send that one first.

Listen to us with the stars. Yeah, that's good. Listen to us while you spar.

Oh, shoot.

My toes were in that.

Ew.

Take that out. Gross. My toes.

My toes.

No. I feel like Peter Parker.

What do you mean?

In the new movie?

He's got toe stuff.

You didn't see the new movie?

Yeah, I don't remember the toe stuff.

He had toes. When he's in the bathhouse and his toes just float up.

Oh, yeah. That was funny.

That's what just happened right now.

For a second, I thought you were like, yeah, he's got like web shooter toes now. I was like, I don't remember that part. Spider-Man would feel a lot different if he swung around like.

Yeah. He's just ballet dancing.

Stop right there, criminal.

Hold on.

So with this current development, I have also decided that I will not be inviting Bev to the wedding at all. Smart move. I know that will cause a huge fight, but I know it will just be more drama and unhappy endings if she's present at all. I'm sure it will cause many rifts, and I will get many lectures from everyone in my family, but I have earned the right to be happy on my wedding day. And if anyone has an issue with any of my decisions, they can choose not to be there. True. And that is the end of that story.

And that's the gosh dang truth.

How could any, you can just be like, oh, they're like, oh, you got it.

What?

Oh, Bev can't go to the wedding at all. What's wrong with you? I'd be like, why would I want Bev there? The only thing she's going to do is say all this stuff that she hates and she thinks is bad and that I'm fat and I'm ugly and my bridesmaids don't look as good as her.

She just doesn't like me.

It's like, Bev, just go to therapy and deal with the fact you have an adopted younger sister.

Deal with it, Bev. Deal with it.

Bev Humbug over here.

Very Bev-nevelent. Bev-nevelent.

Yeah, she is Bev-nevelent, and it's the opposite of be-nevelent. She's Bev-nevelent. And she's going to gaslight you into saying it's the exact same thing.

Guys, you know how we just, like, talked about Geneva on the lake? Oh, I thought you were going to say that. You know how we just had a whole episode and I had to record it? I thought you were going to say that. My father disapproved of my interests, so he pulled strings behind my back.

What is this guy, Geppetto?

My 15-male school has recently restarted all of the sports programs after almost a year of no or limited activity. I see you. Your dad's like, you being around other men in Speedos? What are you, J with a G? Get out of here. That's my guess. Get out of here. With the restart, the school also made a new system.

Every student writes down three different after-school activities in order of interest. So first choice is your favorite, second is your second favorite, and so on. The teachers in charge of the groups then pick the students. First pick is students who already belong to the groups before lockdown. Second pick is then random, and third pick is if there are still places left open in the group. since i was part of the swim team before and put it down as my first choice i would basically be guaranteed to get in but now the results are out and i was placed in wrestling oh and i understand the issue now i never even put that on my list at all so i went to the teacher and asked what's going on turns out the teacher in charge of

wrestling specifically requested me for whatever reason.

He's like I know that boy's got a wrestler's soul inside of his body.

By the way, this comes from Nogrand4260. And if you want to submit your own stories, go to the r slash okstorytime subreddit. This is a stupid system.

I mean, what do you mean?

I feel like you should just be able to go out for the clubs that you want.

Well, yeah, that's why they give you a list of three stuff.

Everyone has to sign up. And then you have to be... This feels weird. Feels like it was open for this situation. As OP says, turns out my dad knows the wrestling teacher quite well and asked for me to be placed on the team. I know my dad hates that I prefer swimming. He always says, it's not a real sport.

How is it not a real sport? In what way is swimming not a real sport?

The oldest sports of all time.

It's an incredibly famous, well-respected sport.

Since people were swimming, they were doing it against each other.

And that I should do some sport that actually gives me muscles. That's insane. Swimming is one of the most... That will give you all-around muscles. Yeah, you get toned as heck. You get your back muscles crazy. He constantly tells me I'm too skinny for a guy and has made several attempts to make me go to the gym to work out. I ask the teachers if I can still switch teams, but they say no. I also cannot just avoid the wrestling club because after school activities are mandatory.

My take here is like, dude, like maybe just do wrestling. Could be cool. And also just swim. In your time. Swim, swim time. Swim. You know?

So last night I had a huge fight with my dad. I called him a butt for forcing me to go to wrestling and that I will just forfeit every single match I have to attend. He threatened me saying if I do that, he will take away all my electronics and I will only be allowed to leave the house for school and nothing else. My mom says I should have the right to choose whatever sport I want, but now that I'm on the wrestling team, I should still do my best. Also, not to call my dad a butt, but I don't want to participate in something I have zero interest in. Was forced into even. It's crazy that they're forcing people into these. This is weird. This is really strange.

I got you. Your dad is dumb for being like, swim's not a real sport and you won't build muscles. Like, okay, first of all, that's crazy. You know how you build muscles in wrestling? You do literal, like, workout weight routine strength training. So you can do that while also doing any other sport.

Yeah, people strength train during swimming too.

I don't know about swimming, but I know for diving we would have, it's called dry board.

I mean, Sam had to do.

It was just a.

Board and a mat and whatever. And we would do like all that kind of stuff.

But we would also still do pull-ups and like core work.

And we would also do tumbling.

Because just doing a sport doesn't build all of your muscles. That's why athletes train when they're not doing their sport.

Yeah, you don't just like, because you're a sprinter, you just sprint every single day.

You do strength training.

I step onto a football field. I am now 250 pounds of solid muscle.

Yeah. I'm immediately super strong. Also, I was really looking forward to swimming again and meeting my teammates. We haven't had it.

Oh, you know, I didn't really think about that because I never, it is like there's, it's the competition. It's the, it's insane.

I think this is so strange that you have to be for one, that your school is forcing you to do this and that your dad also finagled his way.

Like, this is really weird.

Edit.

Next week, I will talk to more teachers, guidance teacher, and also write to the principal. Guess I will also try to talk with my mom again and maybe convince her. Also, we'll mention what some people wrote that wrestling could potentially be dangerous and maybe that will convince her.

You ever heard of this thing called drowning? Happens in the water.

Worst case, I will go through with it and just put in zero effort if no one listens to me.

But don't do that. See, this is why I disagree with you. This is why, like, there should be mandatory after school stuff. It's like, so what? Like, do it. See it.

See it.

Try it. If you actually hate it, okay. But don't go into it being like, I'm not even going to try.

Try, but I still don't agree. Mandatory.

Everything that you have ever liked or do like right now, you started out by knowing nothing about it and not doing it.

I personally was never forced to do anything. I always I always did things because like my parents.

Like because she's a movable object.

My parents signed me up for things that I never knew about, but I was never forced to do things, which I think was good.

I was very much forced to do everything. But that's just because I was marked as good. I was really good at things, so I had to do things. I talked to my mom again without my dad nearby. She still thinks I should give wrestling a try, but if I really want to change, she will support me. So next week, I will go and talk first to my swim coach and the wrestling coach and.

Hopefully get it resolved. Otherwise, I will go further to the principal. I can post an update next week and tell you guys how things worked out. Some of you suggested I should go to the newspaper or something.

Ha ha ha. Why? Front page news. Someone stop this!

But I really do not feel comfortable blowing things up like that. Slandering the school is gonna backfire like 100%. I have also gotten a lot of creative suggestions instead of just throwing the match. I would like to show my face in public sometime. So no, I will ignore most of the really weird suggestions. Thanks, I guess. I also got a few questions about the rule of afternoon activities being mandatory.

There you go. Here come your answers.

So we have to do activities for two years total, but we are free to choose when we do them during high school. We can choose between a lot of club activities offered by the school, not just sports, but all kinds of activities, music, art, reading, writing clubs, gardening, or even game design. School club activities are always free.

And if you require financial assistance for like an instrument or so, I think you can also get financial aid, but I don't really know the details. Additionally, if we attend a club or regular activity outside of school, we can also get credit for that. We just need to work it out with the teachers. We also don't get grades or something. It's just noted on our final report.

I also do not really know what happens if you don't complete them. And we do have an update. I think what is getting to me is the mandatory outside of school because I had mandatory physical activity. Like I was told that I had to do some sort of like I did ballet. That was my or not ballet. I did dance in school and that was mandatory because that was a class.

But I think.

Outside of class is it's kind of ridiculous for it to be mandatory. Because then it's just like, oh, I just have school for longer. I've never known people... Like, there have been people in my school who just don't do anything. Don't do any clubs, no after-school activities, just, like, go home and... Do I think that is good for a kid? Not necessarily, no.

My... So, a lot of the kids who came to theater when I was teaching... A lot of the kids, well, the kids' parents would come to me and be like, we've tried sports. We've tried clubs. We tried all this. We're going to move on to this. And so many of them were like, oh.

Yeah, this is it. And I'm like, ah, yay. Kids should be not forced into something they don't want, but should be encouraged to find something that fits for them. And I hope that you can go to your dad and say, hey, this just doesn't fit me. So many things. So many things. But we got an update. First things first.

I am back on the swim team.

Oh.

Yeah. Oh, that's I would have just also said like, yeah, you can just be on the swim team if you just speak up at school. If you're like, I'd rather be on the swim team than the wrestling team. They'd be like, OK.

Today was a really weird and awkward day. First opportunity I went to talk to my swim coach and explain the whole situation. and that I am not willing to stay on the wrestling team. He was pretty mad at my dad as well as the wrestling coach, so he took me to the secretary, explained the whole thing, and asked her to change the list. She was in turn quite mad, because apparently the whole system is a big mess.

I'm not even remotely the only student who was misplaced. So then the secretary called in my homeroom teacher. There was a lot of accusation. I was just standing there feeling awkward. Really weird to see three adults being mad at each other. In the end, I was basically told by all three to just ignore the whole thing and that I can just join the swim team if I want to. I figured that was it until the end of the school day. Then the wrestling coach had me come to his office. He gave me a long talk about how disappointed he is. How he had high hopes.

The wrestling coach did?

Yeah, he's like, son, I want you to look in this mirror. Do you know what I see?

I see a wrestler.

I see the dimensions of a champion. I see what you could be.

You could be much bigger than you are now, and I want to help you get there.

Yeah, you've got the arm length. You've got the neck width. And let me tell you, buddy, I bet my bottom dollar that you got the tendon strength to do it.

I told him I really don't care and that he was a knucklehead for just ignoring what I want to do. To sum up, wrestling coach mad at me, homeroom teacher mad at me for complaining, swimming coach mad at school, and my dad is probably gonna freak out when he hears that I won't wrestle.

Oh, well. That's such a 15-year-old way to think about that, too.

Everyone's mad at me.

No one's even thinking about you anymore, dude.

Yeah.

None of those people are thinking about you for one second once you leave their line of sight. Yeah, I'm not talking about the dad. I just mean like... The other people. All the people at the school. It's like... They don't care. Nah, dude. They have their whole life. You're one in a thousand. School is your whole life when you're in it, but it's not theirs.

But we got a second update, folks. Let's get into it.

Hey, it's Keelan, your residential nerd. We're going to get back to the stories, but here's three minutes of ads from our sponsors.

Mom told dad about the switch as he came home from work. He has so far completely ignored me. Not a single word. Cool. Actually a nice outcome, I guess.

Yeah, I mean, that's better than, you know, being all ornery about it.

You know what movie you and your dad should watch?

Remember the Titans.

Billy Elliot.

Yeah, watch the Elton John movie.

That's less relevant. Rocket Man. He, uh, his dad wants him to be a wrestler. And he just wants to die. We've got a third update. Let's finish her off. You know what?

Maybe instead of Billy Elliot, you should watch the 2008 Olympic gold medal swimming matches.

Yes, we should watch Michael Phelps and then go, Dad, is that? Look at that man's frame. That's not a... A sport?

Or flip it around, do the other side of the coin, go, look at all these pretend athletes competing on an international stage for a gold medal for, oh, I'm in the water. I touched the water real fast. Yeah. What a bunch of idiots, right, Dad?

I wanted to add a last point here. Last night, I had a talk with my dad and my mom. It was awkward. Dad apologized for the wrestling thing, but also said he wants me to grow up strong so that I can defend myself. He says swimming won't help me when I get in trouble. I was really confused about that because I never have been bullied or gotten in trouble or something like that. I mean, if OP was near water, it would help. He'd just swim away from those bullies. They'd never catch him.

Your dad's missing the fundamental principle of self-defense. If you ever get in a situation where someone wants to throw down with you, just get away. Get away from that person.

We're not going to be using wrestling moves when we're in a fight.

The answer is not to get down in your stance and tackle him to the pavement. The answer is to extract yourself.

Mom later told me that my dad used to get bullied a lot in high school. I was about to say it felt like he was just attributing. Projection! So he started working out in college and that helped him a lot. I guess he wanted me to do the same. It's really weird at home at the moment, but I guess he's not a complete butt. Still kind of, but I don't know.

Yeah, he was just projecting his own.

Figured it out. Isn't that what all parents do?

Can't really blame him for that, right? It's like, God, that would suck if he had my life.

This is Michael Phelps's body. Pansy. Michael Phelps's.

It's all CGI. Look at that. Pull up what Steve Rogers looked like before he got the super soldier serum. That's what a swimmer looks like in real life. And if you've ever seen a swimmer with muscles, they're wearing a suit. They're lying. And if any swimmer you know wasn't wearing a suit, they have all those muscles because they are.

That's a swimmer.

There's Michael Phelps. There's the Phelps that I know.

Michael Phelps without the CGI.

Michael Phelps pre-CGI.

Look, I was researching the spider game.

Yes, the bug squisher. Yes.

Big Bertha.

Oh, whoa.

Big Bertha, you ever play that?

This is the first time I'm laying eyes on Big Bertha.

Oh my gosh, you throw the things.

The whole thing is feed Big Bertha.

Yes, feed Big Bertha. But also the best thing was this. Truthfully, this was the best.

It was just like in every Chuck E. Cheese for no reason. What was that? I would go.

On this constantly and be like, I was above everyone. I was like, look how tall I am. Oh my God, I loved it.

Oh, yeah. No, that's why they go up.

You can see like the whole thing. That's what I loved.

Wanted that thing to go through the freaking roof. Yeah.

And then also.

Oh, my God.

Do you know what the City Museum in St. Louis is? Of course you don't. Look it up right now. It's an adult playground. There are no arcade games, but look up the City Museum in St. Louis, please. The thought of that going through the roof just reminded me of because there's a big building that was gutted and this guy turned it into like a giant like art installation slash museum slash interactive playground for like, I mean, it was sick. as a kid dude it's just as sick as an adult looks so There's just some spots you can't get into because you're not small enough anymore. They got a giant praying mantis on the roof. They got a fighter jet. They got stuff hanging off the ceiling you can climb up into. It's so cool, dude. It's

the coolest place. Maybe the coolest place I've ever been. Yeah, and that's like, and the building's like, I don't know, like, eight stories tall probably five or six well.

This cool you want to know what i miss it was called kahuna ville is that feels like they were just trying to not get sued by jimmy buffett kahuna ville the eastwood mall they had they used to have a carousel in my mall.

Oh yeah they used to have a carousel at my mall.

And then they took it out and then they used to also have little like kiosks we got our turtle there kind of lame that they took the carousel out of the mall got like this big Then it ran away.

Oh, there's also the St. Louis Science Center. I forgot about the Science Center.

This is what it looked like on the outside.

Kahunaville!

That was right next to the mall.

That's a, I got, I got that. That's a big kahuna.

It's basically like a rainforest cafe.

It's, yeah, I was about to say, that's just, that's actually just Rainforest Cafe.

Kahunaville, and it had a very specific smell. And we all know what it smells like, me and all my siblings. And then literally, you just like walk in somewhere and it's like, oh my god, it.

Smells like Kahunaville. And there you have it.

Final side thing. Very interesting thing about the guy who made the city museum. He was going to make another thing called like Concrete City or Concrete-topia or something. He was just going to lay a bunch of, like, it was going to be like a giant concrete compound.

Lay a bunch of concrete.

And he fell in the concrete and died.

You die how you live, I suppose.

He used to be able to sneak into the ruins. They've torn it all down now. And that is the end of those stories, but we have some comments to finish off this video. The video, My Sister Bullied Me For Years Now, Karma Finally Got Her. That was posted on August 19th, 2026. The TLDR for the first story is, OP is the youngest of four sisters, and growing up, one sister named Lisa bullied her relentlessly. Lisa spread... vicious rumors, humiliated OP in front of entire groups of girls, and played the perfect innocent angel at home. So convincingly that teachers and even OP's older sisters believed OP was making it all up. It took years and Lisa finally confessing to a therapist for the family to realize the truth.

Now grown, married, and a new parent, OP wants nothing to do with any of her sisters, but they are desperate to meet the baby, and OP's own wife keeps pushing him to forgive. If you're curious to know how that story unfolds, you can go watch the full video.

Watch it so comment number one from cozy karma 1542 says story one i'm not a fan of everyone manipulating op into being in contact with his abuser this is a major l for the wife too comment number two from eol care education debbie says if she was truly sorry she would leave him alone at his request she would honor him by leaving him alone she's just trying to make herself feel better in my.

Opinion yeah i bet you that's pretty.

Accurate sure sure sure comment number three from theme park exclusives 85 86 forgiveness is not the same as reconciliation you forgive to heal yourself no need to reconcile that is very true and the last comment from ollie sean 92 says cheating would have been less of a betrayal than this i don't remember what the betrayal was but sure.

That's that sounds pretty Desevere. Maybe we should all go watch that episode together.

Ooh, let's see. Yeah, let's see what's so crazy. But that's the end of those comments and the end of this episode. So if you love us, make sure to subscribe.

We love you and see you tomorrow.
