Ayo, it's Riley here.
And this is Angie, your favorite OK Storytime hosts. And we've got some great stories coming up.
But before we read these crazy stories, we have a tuna break from the sponsors that keep the show alive.
My wife turned down every job offer because she thinks she's too good for them.
I just don't like that one.
My wife was a stay-at-home mom for one year, and long story short, she didn't enjoy it. So we just put our toddler in daycare six months ago under the condition she would look for a job. I don't want her at home doing nothing again. For context, she was a housewife without children for two years, and she was just hanging out at home watching movies, going to the gym, and playing with our dogs all day. Ugh. What a terrible life.
Well, I think OP's saying, well, I want to do that.
That sounds fun.
I want to do that.
Just pretty much enjoying her life while I was paying for us.
Yeah, if you didn't agree to that, then not cool.
She stopped taking her birth control on purpose so she can have another excuse to stay home longer. And yes, she admitted to doing this.
Like, fully immediately, I'd be talking about divorce.
I'd have question marks all over my face going, huh?
I'd be like, oh, so you baby trapped me? Oh, so you lied to me? That's not okay.
And she got what she wanted. She got to stay at home longer. She was doing the stay at home mom thing for a little over a year until it got too much or too hard because when they are closer to two years old, they start having tantrums and being clingy. Fast forward now, since our toddler has been in daycare for several months, my wife has been applying for jobs nonstop. Oh, I looked at her Indeed and LinkedIn.
She had a lot of interviews. She turned down a hotel job that they gave her because she said it was embarrassing and she must have applied for it when she was drinking wine. By the way, this comes from user A Deleted User. And if you want to submit your own stories, go to the r slash OKStoryTime subreddit.
I'm Keon.
I'm Sophia.
I'm Riley.
And we're here to give good advice goofily. Look at us. Look at Sophia. I thought you were going to do like the little ducky face. Can you do it?
No, I can't.
I can't.
We'll only show you what we know. Let us know what you do in the comments down below, pretty please. So, Obi says, She didn't want to wear a uniform or work at a job that wasn't respectful, meaning she refuses to do a job that's like a cashier, janitor, waiter, or anything wearing a logo uniform, like McDonald's, for example.
She just thinks these types of jobs are low class, embarrassing, and disrespectful to work at, or... Just not age appropriate since these jobs are typically high school education or teenagers or working at these jobs part-time. And she's a 27-year-old and wants a more respectable job with a respectable environment, for example. Like a hospital setting.
She wants to be a doctor? Does she have a degree?
She wants to be a lawyer.
She's like, I want something respectable. Like the president. I want to be the president.
I want to be the.
I know. If you're going to handle.
Taking care of your kid, I don't think you could handle being a lawyer.
Or doctor.
Or doctor.
Don't sound like adult things. I don't want to be an adult. I just want to have a good time.
I want a job where I work in a respectful environment and also I don't have to do any work.
Money please. She's trying to land a job as an office coordinator and admin assistant. She got a job offer for the admin assistant job and she said she's going to think about it until she hears back from the office coordination job. I'm scared if she blows it because she finally got a job offer with a job she wants.
But she's holding that off until the other office coordination people call her back. If they decide to call her back. Both of these jobs are in healthcare. My wife does have an education. She has a BA in theater. Yes, she knows her degree is useless.
Hey!
Hey! Those are probably her words, not OP's. Let's be real.
Well, if she's saying that, she just doesn't know what she's got.
She just got her degree because she liked to learn about this back when she was in college, but doesn't have interest in it anymore.
No, it sounds like she just doesn't know what she's interested in.
I'm just really sick of my wife's attitude. She's just so lazy and entitled. Or am I wrong? She just doesn't like to work. She wants to do whatever she wants all day. Like, don't we all? But we're living on a tight fund right now that I'm paying for daycare while she's just sitting at home chilling. Am I wrong?
Can we have an update? No, you're not wrong. That is super frustrating. You're paying for everything and she's just kind of getting to chill.
I want to know how your wife was raised. I want to know, was she wealthy? Or was she in a good place where she really didn't have to do a job? Because it shows.
Like her parents let her go to theater school and she wasn't seemingly interested in it enough to the point where she was going to pursue that as a career. And you definitely have to have parents who are pretty supportive of you and just following whatever whims or, you know, you have to let you go to theater.
School supportive of that or supportive in their pockets where they go or they go.
Yeah.
That sounds, as long as it makes you happy, honey. We have an update. So, the update is that my wife doesn't want to contribute financially. My wife just accepted a job as an admin assistant in the hospital, and she starts in January. They told her that her pay will be $ 16. 40 an hour, and I currently make $ 32 an hour.
She's going to make $ 16. 40 an hour? I mean, she could make more as a barista.
It's called minimum wage. Or no, probably a little bit more. Depends where you live. Depends what year and where you live.
That's probably fully just minimum wage.
That's crazy.
Because they probably looked at her credentials and like.
Yeah, she's got a BA in theater and they're like, well.
What.
Do you know about nursing? I have a baby.
Well, she's just like an administration.
Yeah. I've always paid for us since she was a housewife pretty much most of our marriage. In the beginning, I was okay with it because I made more than I did at my old job.
How much does OP make?
It was $ 32 an hour now. But again, before, probably a lot more. But now, we've been hitting a financial rut. My wife is annoyed with me when I talk to her about just paying the utilities with her check so i can save more money she said no she didn't sign up for a roommate she signed up for a husband oh she said if she had to pay her own bills she might as well be single and what does she need me for.
Oh and then you go oh okay enjoy.
That be single i wasn't a real man she said a lot of hurtful things over this when all i said was i want her to pay just the utilities and I'll still pay literally everything else. She said she makes nothing with her salary, and I'm just trying to mooch off a woman, and that's disgusting.
Oh, do we not know any of this? Do we not know any of this?
Look, her true colors are showing, OP.
Yikes.
She has this view because she is Hispanic and grew up in a traditional family. I'm also Hispanic, but I grew up in a broken family. I also stated I was okay with paying for everything in the beginning, but I don't make as much as I used to anymore. She just wants to save her paychecks and put it in a Capital One savings every month so it increases with interest. And she said she'd rather do that for savings in emergency funds and fun money. But I don't know.
I'm not threatened by her having her own money in her account. I don't care. I'm not worried about her running off. I mean, only stating that because I know that will be an assumption. It's all martial assets by law, anyway. So it's not that I'm worried about it. Should I just let her put all the money in her Capital One savings if it'll accumulate more money over time? I just don't like how petty she's being. She just thinks because she's a woman, she shouldn't have to pay for anything.
And she's always talking down about how Americanized friends have to pay 50-50 of the bills. And then she's taking care of the kids and then the house. And then they're all suckers, basically. We also have one child together that matters. OP, I don't think she's going to get it.
Yeah, I worry. Based off of the fact that you've already tried to have her be a stay-at-home mom, and then you already had the conversation where she promised she would get a job, and now she's kind of going back on her word on.
All of these.
Opie, I feel like you're really close at your wit's end here.
And also, let us not forget that she baby-trapped him. I would have been out just from that.
Yeah.
I don't trust a liar.
OP, I don't think this is going in the direction you want it to go. There's an ad. I guess thanks for the advice. But nothing that was said was remotely useful. No one here even bothered to read the post.
Okay.
The problem isn't a joint account. We already have a joint account. The problem is she doesn't want to pay for not even one bill. She can pay that one bill in her separate account for all I care. I don't care what account it comes out of. I just want her to pay for it with her paycheck, which she won't do. Stop recommending a joint account. We have one already, and she doesn't want to pool our money together because for the last time, she doesn't want her paycheck going towards any household essentials like groceries, mortgage, car payment, bills, etc.
She just wants it for fun money.
Yeah. I think we gave you good advice, OP, so come over here and listen to our story.
Yeah.
Or our advice.
Yeah.
Kim finds this. How old is the kid? I think around two.
Around two now.
Babies in daycare cost a lot more.
She started complaining about it, about the kid, now that it's cognizant.
They just said toddler.
Yeah. She can't handle a two-year-old who wants their mother's affection.
Yeah, no. It's too much. Unacceptable!
Unacceptable!
Schmed says, Opie, just divorce already. She's so lazy.
For real. Too lazy, too lazy.
I like how you were like, honey, you need a job to help pay for things. And she went, okay, I'll get a job. But I want a job that's at least not embarrassing for me.
Yeah, and then she got that job and she's like, well.
I don't really want to pay for anything. I want to pay for fun stuff.
But that's the end of that story. We got another one coming right up.
My wife wished another man cooked for her. So I never cooked for her again.
Careful what you wish for.
My wife and I have been married for seven years and together for 10. A couple years ago, my wife had a male co-worker who used to cook for the office often. My wife used to always rave about his food, and it admittedly made me insecure. Also because he looked like a Greek model. I also started cooking for my wife around that time. I was never a serious cook, but I decided to give it a shot. Prior to then, I only used to cook basic food. But I decided to try cooking complex meals. However, a lot of times, it didn't come out great. Aww. Aww. My wife used to help me, but I was just never serious about it.
One night, my wife was wasted and we just had beef wellington that I had cooked. It was sort of a disaster. And my wife and I were just both laughing about it. However, my wife then druggily admitted she wished her male co-worker could cook for her every day. I didn't fully grasp what she was saying as I was really wasted, but my wife realized what she said and she apologized.
Yeah, I think that's fair.
I told her it was all right and that it was probably some attempt at a joke. And by the way, this comes from user AcceptableWeight4341. And if you want to submit your own stories, go to the r slash OKStoryTime subreddit. I'm Kion.
I'm Sophia. And I'm Savannah.
And we're here to give good advice gloopily. We don't know everything, guys. We only know what we do. Let us know what you do in the comments down below, pretty please, as OP says. However, the next day, I grasped what she was saying, and I really felt deflated. My wife sensed it, and she apologized again, and after taking a day to think about it, I told my wife, let's not make a big deal about it, but also, I was never going to cook for her ever again.
My wife again apologized and almost started crying, but I told her, it was all in the past, and let's move on.
It's clearly not!
It's clearly not!
That's crazy! You're like, alright, let's move past this, so I'm never cooking for you ever again for our future. See?
Heon, are you on my side now?
I'm on your side of OP now bad.
Overreacting that's what i'm saying i was basing it on his.
Feelings being hurt yeah of course i think very.
Fair i think i was just basing it off the title yes it's.
Been two years since then and my wife and mine's relationship is stronger than.
Ever okay have you ever cooked for her again.
Over the past couple of years, I have also spent a lot of time taking cooking lessons from my sister.
Okay.
Who is a really good cook. I learned that cooking just takes a lot of consistent practice and you can't just learn it over the internet and you need to acquire the skill. And I can now confidently say I am a much better cook than I was a couple of years ago.
Great job.
I cook for friends and for my family or my wife's family when they come over. The food I'm the most proud of, and which I get a lot of compliments, is on the Valencian paella.
Oh, sounds yummy. I've actually never had paella.
Yes.
Opie goes on to say that I make a very good paella. However, in spite of the progress I've made, I can't find it in me to cook for my wife alone.
You're a baby.
I still remember the hurt and insecurity I felt a couple years ago. My wife even stopped speaking to and taking food from the co-worker after that incident.
Oh, come on.
And the co-worker has even left the company since. You caused this.
This is your fault.
You did this.
That poor man.
That poor Greek man.
But I still can't find it in me to cook a romantic dinner for my wife. My wife has asked me a few times, and she says she's willing to do anything to repent or take accountability. But... I told my wife I've already forgiven her a couple of years ago. It's just that I can't mentally bring myself to ever cook for her. Am I wrong?
Yes. You haven't forgiven her.
You obviously haven't forgiven her. Or gotten over it.
I don't understand how OP can have this weird paradoxical mindset of I've forgiven her. I'm over it. But also I could never cook for her again.
I think this is definitely a trauma for OP.
Oh my god, yeah. He said, she hates my beef wellington. She's in love with a Greek man.
She's going to leave him for the Greek man.
This is the seafood one.
It looked so good.
Oh my God, I devour it. She's clearly eaten his stuff, you know, with family.
And other friends. You can cook for her in a group setting, but cannot cook for her one-on-one.
That's ridiculous.
She didn't even say, I wish you never cooked for me. She was just like, oh, I wish I could eat that guy's food all the time.
It's so good.
She was drunk.
She apologized.
You were drunk.
You were drunk. She was drunk.
She apologized. You said you'd taken the apology and you haven't. It's been two years.
Get over it. Cook her food.
I'm sick of you. I think.
I don't know.
Your relationship is not as strong as ever.
He's very traumatized. But the thing is, he's like, I am now an excellent chef. And I think he wants to make his wife the grandest meal ever.
Yeah.
And he's probably just like, I can't do it.
Update!
Update!
So pretty much all the comments told me I was very wrong. And what I was doing was cruel to my wife. It was never my intention to be cruel to my wife. It was all about my mental health. But I understand now how it can be perceived as being cruel. I didn't want to make a big deal of it. So I told my wife this morning I would start cooking for her tonight and make her a special dinner. My wife was very excited and hugged and thanked me. And I'm nervous and excited and looking forward to opening this new chapter in our lives. Finally! I, however, reminded my wife again how she had almost destroyed my love for cooking a couple of years ago.
Oh my god, you are such a mama.
Let it go.
You're the most sensitive person I've ever met.
Let it go.
Be Elsa.
Yeah, let it go.
I also gave my wife an analogy. My sister told me this morning to tell this analogy to make my wife understand the impact of what she said a couple of years ago. I asked my wife, how would she feel if I drunkenly admitted to preferring hugs from Vanessa? Vanessa is my close childhood friend, because Vanessa has a softer and more feminine feel to her.
Shut the F up. That is not the same at all. That's not the same at all, and you're pissing me off. I don't like you.
I think a better.
I have a better one.
Yes.
I have a better one. It's a little bit like if OP said... I prefer when, let's say they had a masseuse friend. I prefer when that masseuse friend gives me massages.
Over you.
Over yours.
Yes.
But they both know she gave bad massages or something like that. I think that's a better, because it's like, ow, that kind of hurts, because I like giving massages. It's a way for us to be close to each other. That is a better analogy. Yes. Your analogy sucks.
I asked my wife if she would get over that comment, even if I apologized the rest of our lives. And my wife admitted... she wouldn't be able to get over that comment. And she again apologized for what she said a couple of years ago. But having said all of that, I am really excited about tonight. I plan on making my wife lemon butter lobster risotto and serve it with a glass of white wine.
That sounds nice, Opie. I hope you have fun.
I hope to make it as romantic as possible. And I hope it comes out well. That's probably my final update. Thank you all for the advice. You need to go to a therapist and talk about this trauma.
For real. For real. Like what? What can his wife do?
Go back in time and never say that comment ever?
Yeah, because she can't.
You know what she should do? Never eat food again.
She clearly can't apologize.
Never eat food again. Honestly, if I were.
Hunger strike.
If I were OP's wife, I'd be like, your food's bland. I'd be like Gordon Ramsay. Like, it's not good enough.
Your food... An idiot sandwich. That's the end of that story, though. My husband's classmate is obsessed with him. Bad mouthing me to everyone.
Hey, why are you doing that?
I honestly don't even know where to start. I apologize if the timeline is difficult to follow.
Uh-oh.
My 30 female husband, 30 male, is currently a nurse. Two years ago, my husband, let's call him Wayne, enrolled in a one-year accelerated nursing program at a university in our city. This was a super intense program that basically shoved four years of nursing school into one year.
That.
Sounds like maybe not the best way to teach nursing. Kind of sounds illegal. Yeah, it does. Here's your certification for showing up this week.
Yeah, it doesn't sound effective whatsoever.
No.
I also don't want these people to be my nurses.
Wayne quit his job so he could focus all of his energy on the program and pass the NCLEX.
Is it NCLEX?
NCLEX.
I don't know.
I was fully supportive of this and basically told him whatever he needed to do to study and feel prepared. I was game. It is important to mention that Wayne and I have been together for 15 years now. We are high school sweethearts.
Wow.
Cute.
During the first week of his program, Wayne met two other students and became friends with them. I will call them Bonnie, 27 female... Gail, 28 female. The three of them became fast friends and quickly made a habit of studying together every single day for almost a year. They would take turns going to each other's houses, but the majority of the time they were at our house because it was somewhat in the middle. Since I worked during the day, they could study all day if they wanted.
By the way, this comes from Mrs. Sands, 94, and if you want to submit your own story, go to the r slash ok story time subreddit. I'm Sophia.
I'm Keon.
And I'm Savannah. And we're here to give good advice goofily, but we don't have all the answers. We only know what we do. So let us know what you would do in the comments. And Opie says, I also really liked Bonnie and Gail. Eventually, we all became friends and Bonnie's boyfriend, Dan, 27 male, and Gail's girlfriend, Tannis, 28 female, would come over for dinner. Before anyone asks, I had absolutely no issue with Wayne befriending women or spending time with them. Wayne and I are best friends and have a very secure relationship. I trust him completely. Not to mention, Bonnie and Gail were also in relationships. And Gail is seemingly J with G. Eventually, Wayne and bonnie even helped gail work through some relationship drama and break up with
tennis oh oh no The get-togethers became smaller after that, because Tanis was gone and Dan was working more. Fast forward to graduation. Both Wayne and Bonnie got a job at the same ER working similar shifts. That particular ER is in a tough part of town, so it's great that Wayne and Bonnie can debrief after shifts and vent to each other. Gail was forced to go on night shift, the opposite schedule of Wayne and Bonnie.
Tough.
Over the past year, Wayne and Gail haven't really spoken. Wayne rationalized that they both got busy and just lost touch. Bonnie still spoke regularly with Gail. Around this time, Dan proposed to Bonnie. Wow. We were all very happy for them. And the couple eventually told us the wedding would take place in a state far away. Easily 12 to 13 hour drive or a flight away. While that would be a lot of money for us, we said we would do our best to come. Bonnie asked Gail to be a bridesmaid and we were super pumped because it would be like a small reunion. At this time, I found out I was pregnant.
Wow, double wow.
Oh, wow, wow, wow.
There's a lot of things going on at this time.
We had been trying for a while and were so happy. It would work out great because our baby boy would be approximately nine months old at the time of the wedding. Old enough that we could leave him for a day or two with my parents. Fast forward to last week. On Tuesday, Bonnie hand-delivered our invitation. On Friday, Bonnie pulled Wayne aside after their shift and said that she and Dan had a really bad fight because Bonnie invited Wayne and I to the wedding. Why? Wayne was very confused.
Why would Dan be upset that we were invited? Bonnie then explained. Since Wayne, Bonnie, and Gail met in nursing school, Gail has been under the delusion that Wayne was in love with her. She's been around you guys for this whole time and has seen your relationship with Wayne.
I have baby now.
I have baby with my hubby.
My husband's love is inside of me.
I've been with him for 15 years. You don't say it like that. I don't like that either. Bonnie and Dan would talk with Gail almost every day and tell her there was nothing between her and Wayne. Gail would insist Wayne was a lover.
Gail, why are we doing that?
Why are you trying to cause drama? As time went on, Gale started to badmouth me to Bonnie and Dan, saying I was manipulative and mean to Wayne.
How? I need examples.
Yeah, like, from what? From what are we getting this? Gail said she needed a breakup with Tannis because she and Wayne were going to be together. Eventually, Gail thought Wayne was going to leave me for her. When Wayne told them we were trying for a baby, Gail started a whole other delusion that she and Wayne were going to have kids.
What is going on?
Gail, I think, needs sleep. I think Gail has been doing the night.
Shift too long. Yeah, the night shift has been affecting her.
That's what happens to me when I don't sleep. Yeah, you start dreaming about having kids. According to Body, during one of our dinners, when it was just the four of us, I said something that Gail then twisted and passed on to Dan. It was about a heated news topic the two of us disagreed on. Gail told Dan I had said something extreme and hurtful, essentially putting cruel words in my mouth that I never spoke. I can say with 100% certainty that I never said what she claimed.
It was completely fabricated to make me look like an awful person. Regardless, Gail told Dan, I allegedly said this. According to Bonnie, Gail talked to Dan without Bonnie present. Dan was very angry and hurt and chose to internalize his anger towards me. Why is no one just talking to OP and said, hey, did you say this?
Why are we not going to the source?
Wayne and or OP and going, hey, we heard this from Gail.
Why is this coming up just now? This hasn't been like.
Well, Gale is going to be Bonnie's bridesmaid.
Yeah.
B with a, or sorry, bridesmaid with a B.
B with a Bonnie.
Gale is going to be one of the bridesmaids, so it does make sense that maybe they would believe her words more. He decided he no longer wanted to see Wayne and I and lied about his work schedule so as to not attend dinners with us.
Oh, wow. Yikes.
It wasn't until a couple months later that Bonnie invited Dan to dinner at her house and he said, why would I spend time with these people after what they said? Bonnie was confused and then Dan told her what Gail said. Bonnie told Dan those words were never spoken and Gail was lying. By this point, Dan had convinced himself I had said those things and didn't believe Gail would lie. Oh, so now you believe that you're a fiancé?
So now Dan's in love with Gail.
Yeah, that's what I think.
Because Dan will only take Gail's word?
Yeah, over his fiancé' s word. You're going to believe Gail over your fiancé.
Who was also there.
This is like a love... What is it? What's the star? Is it a Pentecost?
What is it?
Pentagon? Pentagram? Pentagram. There we go. My brain hurts. Pentecostal.
Pentecostal. This is love Pentecostal.
It's a love Pentecostal. It's a love Pentagram.
Pentecostal love. My favorite. When they started working, they stopped hanging out as much because of their schedules. Gail took this as Wayne ghosting her and breaking up with her.
Dude, what is going on?
So Gail is just full delusional.
She's cuckoo for Cocoa Puff.
She's fully delusional.
Remember that mascot?
Yeah. I liked him.
Yeah, that shows. That definitely ticks. That makes sense.
And continued to badmouth me and Wayne. When Dan found out Bonnie had given us a wedding invitation, he was livid. He felt she went behind his back to invite us, even though we heard him. Dan, your hurt is fake.
This is Dan. I don't know what to believe.
Your hurt is manufactured, Dan. Wake up. Smell the roses.
Everyone's full of lies.
Everyone's against me. And it's just Gale. When Wayne reiterated this to me, I was shocked. We had been completely in the dark about this whole thing for two years. Bonnie had been acting like nothing was wrong. After almost every shift, Wayne and Bonnie talk on the phone, and not once has she mentioned any of this. Gail is still in the wedding party despite it all. Dan still hates us. Bonnie wants Wayne and I to be at her wedding and says she can't get married without her best friend Wayne there.
Hey, if I'm your best friend, how come you haven't told me any of this?
How come you let your fiancé believe these lies for years? And how come Gail, the liar, is still in your wedding?
Everyone here sits on the throne of lies other than Wayne and OP.
Firstly, Bonnie has lied by omission for two years.
Yep.
Frankly, I don't trust her anymore, and I'm skeptical we have all the information. Secondly, I'm offended that Dan would blindly believe Gail, especially after her delusions about Wayne. Thirdly, why would I want to go to a wedding where Gail is a bridesmaid and could start something? Why would I spend thousands of dollars to travel to a wedding where I'm uncomfortable and leave my baby? While Wayne is as confused as I am, he still wants to go.
I don't even think he's welcome. Dan clearly doesn't like Wayne either. He has bonded with Bonnie through work and values her as a friend. Bonnie's trying to convince Dan that we are good people and Gail twisted everything. Honestly, after being left in the dark for two years, I don't want to have to convince anyone we're innocent. If anything, we should be getting an apology from all parties. Wayne and I are currently still waiting to hear from Bonnie about her talk with Dan and Gail. As of right now, the 21st, Gail is still a bridesmaid and Dan still doesn't want us at the wedding. Am I wrong for feeling this way? What would you do? And we do have an edit. What would you guys do?
I'm very uncomfortable about all of this. Like you said earlier, I don't feel like we are invited anymore. Especially if the groom of the wedding.
Doesn't want us there? I mean, if I'm OP, I'm certainly not going. And if I'm Wayne, why would you go if you're not even really invited and your wife is actively being like... Had a smear campaign against her.
I go up to Bonnie, who's the bride, and be like... Hey, girly pop, why wasn't this brought.
Up at all?
Yeah.
And why were you, you know, continuing the lie? What is going on?
I don't know, man.
She's like playing like a fun game of Sims and everyone's evil.
Yeah, I wouldn't go. I'd be like, sorry, I just don't really feel comfortable because of everything that's happened. And I feel like that's a good enough excuse. Yeah, sorry.
Sorry, my unborn baby is going to be nine months at that point. They said no.
Also, I can't even, if I'm going and I'm pregnant, I can't even drink. Waste of my time. Well, no, he's going to be nine months post-pregnant.
Yes.
Still.
You probably still can't drink if she's breastfeeding. True. Waste of my time. I mean, she might not be breastfeeding. Waste of my time.
More like post-part-yum.
Edit to add. Wayne also expressed that he didn't want to go to the wedding if Gail was there. The main reason being that we don't want to risk a scene and potentially ruin Bonnie's wedding. Bonnie has also mentioned she is considering removing Gail from the wedding party, but is afraid to because she doesn't want to cause her to spiral. Gail has been going through some difficulties over the past year, which contributes to Bonnie's hesitation. I am not defending Bonnie or Gail, but I understand it. Update.
Wayne and I sent Bonnie a message stating that if Gail was at the wedding, we would not be attending. Bonnie said, I totally understand and I would never want you to be uncomfortable ever. I'm so sorry this is happening and I hate that I had to tell you guys. I wish I could have kept it to myself so no one else got hurt. Gail and I are up in the air right now. Dan is getting better slightly.
He's not as angry. Or I should say his anger has shifted to Gail finally. But he's still frustrated. Now we know that she would have never told us. I haven't talked to Wayne yet to see how he feels about this. And we do have a second update.
Oh boy.
Thank you all for the thoughtful and blunt response. I know many of you wanted an update, so here you go. Since I left off, Wayne and I spoke and thought it was only fair that we reach out to Gail. Since we had only gotten Bonnie's side, Gail admitted to having a crush on Wayne, but denied everything else.
Of course she did.
What a little liar.
As previously established, Gail is untrustworthy, so I take her response with a large grain of salt. Wayne and I screenshotted the texts and sent them to Bonnie. We made it very clear we are not keeping anything secret. Bonnie was upset that we talked to Gail and... Didn't know what we hoped to gain from that. She went on to say her life is exploding and us wanting more information is valid, but it's not helping her. What made me laugh is that she said she wished she would have had a say in how the interaction was navigated. Like, yeah, same girl. I wish we would have had the option to choose how to respond too. Bonnie decided to call Wayne.
I was at work, so I couldn't be privy to the conversation. Long story long, Bonnie said that she and Dan are having issues separate from this whole ordeal. So this situation is adding fuel to the fire. Us reaching out to Gail stirred up additional stuff for Bonnie. Wayne told Bonnie that he knows she has a lot going on, but that doesn't negate what she did to us. Bonnie asked Wayne, do you want to step back from our friendship?
Wayne said no. When Wayne is relaying this to me, I'm trying to remain composed. This is basically the cliff notes of what I told him. Bonnie knowingly lied to us the entire time we have known her. If she could lie for this long, what else has she lied about? She knew Gail was unstable, yet thought it was okay for us to continue to be friends and invite her into our home. She knew Gail had lied to Dan, yet didn't correct it or bring it to our attention.
She was cool with Dan thinking I'm awful and believing a lie. She continued to treat Gail as a friend and made her a bridesmaid and wanted to invite us to her wedding against the groom's wishes, knowing Gail would be there. Why should we drop money to celebrate their marriage when they clearly don't give a crap about ours?
I gave Wayne time to process. Wayne ended up saying that he doesn't consider Bonnie a friend and hesitated before because he's so sad and disappointed in her. I think he had trusted her so much. And since all of this goes against her perceived character, it was a lot to process. This whole thing is so immature and childish that you want to rationalize everything into something more complicated in hopes the dots will connect. I told Wayne we should tell Bonnie that things are not okay with us, and she needs to sort her crap out and decide where her priorities lie. Wayne was hesitant because he didn't want to trigger Bonnie. But I pointed out she used that same train of thought for Gail, and look where
she is. We are not cutting Bonnie off. We are simply pausing our argument so she can figure out her relationships. We're willing to talk at a later date about keeping her as a friend, but keeping her at arm's length until she can prove she's trustworthy. This is all dependent on the decisions she makes about Dan and Gail. We're waiting a couple days before telling Bonnie this is our plan to make sure our emotions are in check.
Back to red light. I'm back to, I think we... I don't want to go. Yeah.
I don't want to go.
This is too complicated. It sounds too messy. Let's just go on a vacation.
Yeah, let's do that instead. Let's use our, because you've got to fly out anyway. Let's fly somewhere nice.
Yeah.
Hope you haven't gotten your tickets or RSVP'd yet.
Me too.
I'm sure you're wondering, what about Dan? In short, meh. If he cares so little, then to just ask me about something so trivial, whatever. In the best possible outcome, we would still have little to no contact with Dan. Wayne and I are in a good place. We talked about how he can't please everyone and his family should come first. While we don't want to be dismissive of our friends, how events impact our family is the first priority.
This is where things currently are. Once again, thank you for your responses. It was incredibly validating for me. And that's the end of the story.
Hey, this is Riley, your favorite Southern Belle. We're going to get back to these stories, but here's three minutes worth of ads from our sponsors. My best friend sold the dress I paid for, then called me a bridezilla?
Well....
I wasn't ready for that.
I'm 27 female getting married to my fiance 26 male come January. It's not ideal with the current global situation since I'm very high risk but we've already postponed once and there's no end to the pandemic in sight. We decided we're going to take the risk and tie the knot in a smaller ceremony with all possible precautions. Now Ever since I got sick, the reason why I'm high risk, I've always wanted a picturesque wedding. I'm stable, but only looking at another 20 years or so if the vid doesn't get me first. The pictures of this wedding are very important to me since they'll last far longer than I will. There'll be a lovely thing for my husband and potential children to look at once I'm gone. It's
nothing insane, just people dressed nice and a color scheme. The ceremony isn't lavish, but I do want it to be cohesive. Since I was enforcing a color scheme, I only saw it as fair to pay for my bridesmaids' dresses. Due to the vid restrictions, it was very difficult to find the right dresses since I didn't want to risk going to.
A boutique together.
But we made it work. Through lots of back and forth, the bridesmaids and I all picked out matching dresses that fits everyone's taste. I made extra sure that everyone was happy when I ordered the maroon dresses, which is very different than burgundy.
Maroon and burgundy are very different. It is. Maroon pops more.
Yeah. I hope there's five of them.
Everyone got fitted separately and got alterations put down on my tab. Not a word of complaint, just excitement. By the way, this comes from Random67281001. And if you want to send me your own stories, go to the r slash OK Storytime subreddit.
I'm Riley. I'm Dakota. I'm Keon.
And we're going to read the story goofily, right, fellas?
Yeah.
And if you have anything you'd like to add, please add it down below, especially if you're married and got married during the vid.
Your eyes are looking awfully gray today.
Thank you. This goes with my shirt.
Today, my maid of honor, 27 female, messaged me saying that she got the perfect dress for the wedding. Cue confusion. I asked for an elaboration, and she said that she didn't like the bridesmaid's dress, so she went ahead and bought her own.
Girl, OP is gonna d * * * soon. What are you doing? I got two decades, bro. You do this to me? I got 20 years you do this to me. Now I got 19. I've got 19 now because you just took one out of me.
Keon, what's 20 times 52?
You know what to do. I have the answer. It's 1,020.
Is it 1,020?
1,040?
1,040?
Yes, I have 1,040 weeks left, and you just ruined one of them.
You ruined the rest of them.
That was horrifying to hear that amount of time set in weeks. Doesn't feel like a lot.
Keon, what's 20 times 365? Just joking.
All right.
She sent me a picture and it was a tiny white dress that didn't fit her well at all.
Nah, you're stupid. You buy a white dress for the wedding? I say, sorry, we have a level of stupid we don't let into the wedding. And you bypass that. You've gone beyond. You've exceeded the stupid quota.
Yes, it's all an IQ test. You didn't make it through. You can't go with you and your tiny, stupid white dress.
Yes, you bought a little white dress for my wedding. That's great. You're so dumb. Goodbye.
Sarah says, friend is out of the wedding.
Do we agree? Do we agree?
Yeah.
I mean, I think you can probably give her the look. Clearly, you misunderstood. You either wear that dress or you're not in the wedding party.
Yeah.
When I brought up the faux pas, she dyed it flesh-colored with coffee. I told her that she cannot wear that to my wedding since A. Already bought the actual dress at a considerable expense. B. I am not exaggerating when I say it doesn't fit. It's a wardrobe malfunction waiting to happen. And C.
It looks terrible.
She looks unclothed wearing it, and I do not want that in my wedding photos.
It was ruined when she bought it, sweetheart.
Oh, ho, ho, ho.
That's right. That's right. I was very frustrated.
She had not once told me she didn't like the dress and I already spent the non-refundable money. I tried to compromise with her, seeing if she'd wear something else, at least in the same color as all the other bridesmaids. But she brushed it off. I then told her that she could wear the agreed-upon dress or pay me back for it. She blew up at me, calling me a bridezilla for being controlling and unsympathetic to a college student.
Unsympathetic? I bought you a dress, brokie. What are you talking about? Unsympathetic. I bought your dress. It's my wedding. It's my wedding.
Yeah.
Weird. How unsympathetic to a college student. You're not seeing my emotions.
I am in school. I have a whole mic.
I will say I have more free time as an adult than I ever did as a student.
Where were you going to school?
I was stuffing two years of my bachelor's.
Oh.
That's what I was doing. Yeah, double school. Yeah. Uh, yeah.
She said, if I'm going to be this obsessive, then I'm better off not getting married at all since I'll drive my fiance away. I got so angry, I just had to coldly tell her to not come to the wedding at all and then just hung up.
Am I the a-hole? Is it just a dress?
Relevant comments. Squintin says, not the a-hole. If she had an objection, she had an obligation to bring it up before you paid for a dress. By letting you pay, she agreed to the dress and is unreasonable to object now unless there was some significant issue she was not aware of before. squinting a lawyer holy cow that was well said opie says that and it was the bridesmaids who worked together to pick out the dresses i put down two rules which was one a selection of colors and two floor linked as one of the other bridesmaids has a scar down her leg she wants covered slash winter is very very cold here.
So she literally picked the dress not only did you get it for her she.
Chose it hmm formal fist bump says not the a-hole if she agreed to the dress initially it's crappy of her to change her mind her broke college student argument doesn't hold water given it had already been cheaper for her not to go out and buy a second dress opie says ah the dress she bought was ten dollars so she'd be paying me significantly more than that in order to pay me back that was her argument Formal Flatbump says,' Hold on. You said they were paying you back for the dresses, so why would she need to pay you back? In your original post, it sounds like you were covering the cost of the dresses.' Opie says,' Ah, sorry for the confusion. That is the case, yes. But by the end of the phone call with her and
the argument, I initially tried to compromise by having her buy a new dress in at least the right color. And when she said that wasn't an option, I told her she'd either have to pay me back for the dress I bought her or actually wear the proper dress.' Things went steeply downhill from there.
Update.
So I confronted my maid of honor and you guys were right. There was more to the story.
Yum, yum, yum, yum, yum, yum, yum, yum, yum. This is a good one.
She sold the dress because she messed up on her student loan application and desperately needed cash. Opie says, I'm not sure how true this is, especially considering I've only seen her posting on social media about a fourth pet she's recently bought. She was very apologetic on the phone, but my trust in her is damaged. I told her as much, and I asked why didn't she ask for help.
I'm a little strapped due to the wedding prep. but I could cut corners and would be way more understanding if she had just been up front and not lied and gaslit. Our other friends would have helped where they could as well, as they have helped me in the past when I needed it. Additionally, I told my fiancé what happened, as the maid of honor was a mutual friend, and he outright said that he doesn't want her at the wedding if she is going to be so disrespectful.
Yeah, yeah, that makes perfect sense.
Yeah, I think the moment that, I guess she didn't wish ill on the relationship, but being like, well, if this is how you are, then it's like your husband's going to leave you.
There was no reason for that.
Oh my God, I forgot about that comment.
I don't think you put that genie back in the bottle. If it's me, if it's me, I hear that and I'll go, oh, and I'll remember that forever. I'll remember you saying that forever. You can sell your plant. You know, you can sell your pets, right? It's possible.
It is doable.
Did you know that Rocky sold his pet? Rocky Balboa? He did? Yeah.
Whenever he was making... They were making a movie about.
He had to sell his dog?
Yeah.
They were making a movie about how the movie Rocky was made.
Are you talking about Sylvester Stallone? Yeah, that guy. Sold his actual dog?
Mm-hmm.
Dang.
And then he got famous. Guess how much he had to buy his dog back for?
I don't know.
$ 5, 000? $ 5, 000?
Oh, $ 10, 000. $ 10, 000. It's going like this. That's 10. I know, but I just, I saw them as each just five.
So I relayed this to the maid of honor. The maid of honor didn't take this well. At first, accusing me of babbling and then turning our friendship against her. I then told her, frankly, that due to the vid, my guest list was going to have to be really small. Just a handful of people I love and trust and that she is no longer one of them.
Yeah.
Fair. Very fair.
Type one if you think it was the student loans. Type two if you think it was the pets. Want to get everyone's vibe here.
Give me three. All of the above.
Yeah, give me three. Take out. Yeah, that's a good point. Yeah.
She started to apologize again and I sincerely wish her a nice life and that she treated her future friends better. Then hung up and blocked her. I don't need whatever that was in my wedding or my life. I'm sorry this didn't end on a super positive note, but.
It is what it is.
I feel really just bad right now, but I'm hoping with time the wound will heal. For now, this sucks and I miss my best friend.
Yeah, it does. Dang. Dang, bro.
Oh, the pets, the pets, the pets, the pets. And that's the end of this story. We're going to read the next one.
A friend wanted me to document their wedding, but made me beg for communication.
Just put like the loading screen.
I'm a full-time wedding photographer. The bride is someone I've known since high school. We aren't best friends, but she's always referred to me as a friend. And because of that, I put a lot more trust into this arrangement than I would have with a normal client. I was genuinely excited to photograph their destination wedding in August. Looking back, that trust is exactly what got me into trouble, because the way the groom would later speak to me is something I never saw coming.
Uh-oh.
Oh, no. Communication error.
Oh. Back in December, we made a verbal agreement. There was never a written contract.
Oh, so are you actually a photographer?
If you just made a verbal agreement? You didn't photograph that agreement?
Yeah.
My understanding was that they would purchase my airfare and cover my accommodations for the two nights I was actually working the wedding. would be staying with the bride's two friends who were supposed to be my travel companions throughout the trip to ease costs for everyone. We were going to be in Italy for about 10 days, so I planned on paying for the remaining eight days as a vacation, splitting lodging with the bride's friend. I was completely happy with that arrangement. Because I committed to this wedding, I blocked those days off on my calendar months in advance and turned away multiple weddings and sessions worth several thousand dollars.
Oh, because that's peak time, too. Because they're getting married in Italy?
Yeah.
That's peak wedding time.
Mm-hmm.
Uh-oh.
Oh, no. By the way, this comes from Throwaway for Mom, and if you want to submit your own stories, go to the r slash showcase story time, separate it. I'm Sophia.
I'm Riley.
I'm Keon.
And we're here to give good advice goofily, but we don't have all the answers. We only know what we'd do. So let us know what you would do in the comments. OP says, over the following several months, I repeatedly asked for logistics because I needed to plan an international trip. Most of the answers I received were variations of, we're still figuring it out. Then in June, about two months before the wedding, I specifically asked for an itinerary because I still didn't know exactly what I was committing to.
That's when everything changed. I received a detailed itinerary, voice memos, and planning documents showing photo shoots, Almost every day of the trip. Some days including multiple shoots. Boat, beach, Vespa, birthday dinner, boudoir, balcony, spaghetti dinner.
Yum.
Oh, it's his boudoir though.
This is a little bit excessive.
Um, I'm sorry. I'm going to Italy with my dream wife. I would like my spaghetti dinner to be photographed.
I want someone at my beck and call with the camera everywhere I go.
How else are we supposed to recreate that? I want you in the back.
I want how the Italians call it paparazzi.
Paparazzi. How else am I supposed to recreate that scene from that one movie? What movie? Lady and the Tramp.
Oh, it continues. Sunrise. Sunset. It suddenly looked like I would be photographing them for the entirety of the trip instead of photographing a wedding during my vacation.
Pre-wedding coitus. Post-wedding coitus.
I want everything. Well, LP, I feel like you could just say, Hey, I only said I'd do this.
Sorry.
I was planning for this. Unless you can give me 10 more clients, I'm not doing any of this.
Unless you can give me 10 grand. I immediately raised concerns. My concern wasn't that I didn't want to photograph those things. I actually told them multiple times I was happy to. My concern was that the arrangement I had agreed to no longer seemed to exist. And this didn't feel fair. Instead of telling me those shoots were optional, they responded by saying they would cover transportation and entry fees for those activities so I could photograph them.
I still feel like you're losing money in that arrangement.
Yeah. I mean, if OP's spending her vacation time working, that reinforced my understanding that these shoots were expected enough that they were now discussing paying for the costs associated with photographing them. Because of that, I completely changed how I planned the trip. It was no longer my vacation with a wedding in the middle. It had become an international work trip.
I've been there. Been there three times.
Aww, he's been to Bali.
Been there three times, done that.
Since my original lodging plan depended on sharing accommodations with two of the bride's friends, the bride introduced all three of us months earlier, and the understanding was that we'd share accommodations and spend our free time together while I wasn't working. One of the friends decided to make the trip with her husband, so it dropped down to just me and the one other friend. Upon receiving this itinerary, the remaining friend realized she would be alone for the majority of the trip. Well, I was with the couple and was unsure if she felt comfortable with that. I specifically asked the couple to keep me updated about her because my planning depended on whether she was still going.
What?
I was never updated. I, uh, maybe we got to cancel this and then charge them a fee for, you.
Know, making me put up with it.
Yeah.
I mean, 10, go on a trip. Honestly, use this time to still go on your vacation.
Yeah.
Because you have the time blocked off. You already canceled your other things. Go on that vacation.
Absolutely, dude.
I know everyone needs vacation. But as a photographer, can you do it during some slow time?
Like get a vacation during that time?
That's not wedding season.
No, my point is that it's too late probably for her to get any of these jobs back.
You could get last minute photography sessions for a price.
Maybe.
I've seen that before.
I also think you could just take your vacation.
Just be like that one person. There's a lot of people that do it. They just go up to random people and like, can I take just pictures of you? Yeah.
Several days ago, after discovering that my travel companion had actually withdrawn weeks earlier without anyone informing me, despite me specifically asking to be kept updated, I reached back out to that couple. I explained that because my travel plans and costs had now changed so significantly, I could no longer afford to move forward under the circumstances as they currently stood. Before making any final decision, I wanted to understand the complete scope of what I was actually committing to so we could determine whether there was still a way to make the arrangement fair for both sides. This is where the pattern that had run through the entire planning process came to a head.
They're about to give you every single detail you ever needed in life.
Yeah, they're like, okay, so you're actually going to be here at this time, and then you're going to come to our spaghetti dinner, and we're actually not going to be paying you any of this, and you also have to pay to fly here. Thank you so much.
Oh my gosh, that's a good point. Please ask for the money up front.
Every time I raised concerns or asked for details, the groom pushed me to get on a phone call instead of answering and writing. During those calls, I often felt like I was just given enough information to end the conversation, but many of my questions remained unanswered. And when I followed up afterward by text, they frequently went unaddressed. Eventually, because I couldn't keep track of what had and hadn't been answered, I created a shared notes document. so we could organize everything in one place. Smart. The groom told me he had completed it to the best of his ability, but much of it still consisted of TBD. When I explained that I needed detailed written answers before I could move forward, he insisted I had already been given all
of those details months earlier. I did not remember those conversations the same way, and they certainly hadn't left me with enough information to confidently plan an international assignment. At that point, I explained that because we clearly had different understandings of what had previously been discussed, I was no longer comfortable relying on memory or verbal conversations. I wanted everything documented in writing and wanted to draft a new agreement that reflected the assignment as it actually existed now, not the verbal understanding we had reached back in December.
They were unwilling to acknowledge that they viewed the scope of the assignment any differently than they had from the beginning. From there, the communication continued to deteriorate. I felt like I was being criticized and honestly insulted for asking the very questions about the itineraries they had sent that I needed answered in order to perform my job. For example, when I asked which shoots were expected on certain days because I needed to plan lodging, transportation, scheduling, and budget, The groom responded by asking if I had big plans those days instead of answering. I repeatedly explained that I wasn't refusing to photograph anything. I simply needed enough information to understand what I was committing to before traveling internationally.
I know what I'm just asking this guy. Do you not know? Do you not know? Do you not? I'm literally questioning it. Like, do you not know? Oh, it's to be determined. You don't know.
You don't know.
You don't know.
Are you even getting married? Is your marriage over?
Who's your wife?
Pointing around, who are you getting married to? I simply needed enough information to understand what I was committing to before traveling internationally. As these conversations continued, I told the groom I was becoming uncomfortable with his tone, and I never felt those concerns were acknowledged. I also felt there were repeated implications that they were somehow doing me a favor by bringing me, despite the fact that I had turned away thousands of dollars in work and had already spent my own money planning around our original agreement. Today, after I took about 24 hours to process another passive-aggressive message, I was told my lack of communication was becoming a serious concern because the wedding was only a month away.
From my perspective, I had spent months waiting for answers I needed in order to plan. Even during our final conversations, new information kept appearing. For the first time today, I learned they apparently had a wedding planner coordinating transportation and a private driver. Things that had never been mentioned despite months of me asking logistical questions. Another proposed solution to my lodging concern was that I simply stay with the groom's parents. Weird. I explained that I wasn't comfortable traveling internationally for work and relying on staying with people I'd never met. And he insisted there was zero difference between staying with his parents and a peer my age I had just spent months planning with. At that point, I
realized the problem wasn't just the itinerary anymore. I no longer trusted that we were operating under the same understanding. And I no longer felt comfortable traveling internationally where I'd be relying on them for communication purposes. transportation, and logistics. Above anything else, given the way the groom had spoken to me, I no longer felt safe being alone in a different country with this man. I withdrew from photographing the wedding. Since withdrawing, they've asked me to reimburse them for the airfare they purchased and accommodation expenses. Before making this post, I contacted United myself to understand exactly what the options were. United told me the ticket was purchased
as a basic economy fare without the additional flexibility that would have allowed them to pursue a refund. They explained that the ticket is non-refundable and that any remaining value after cancellation would only exist as a non-transferable flight credit in my name because the ticket was issued to me.
It's nice they still bought the flight.
Well, that's the only thing they bought, though.
And they haven't paid her for her work yet or put.
It down in a deposit.
No, I mean.
I feel like they're trying to do a quick one on her.
Yeah, I feel like the real issue is just that they aren't telling OP anything.
I wouldn't trust it.
That she needs to know.
I wouldn't trust any of this. I just like, why is it so shady?
Yeah, Holly Fraser says there isn't a contract. They can't ask for anything. They shot themselves in the foot.
They cannot ask for anything. And I still think you should go to Italy. We've got a little bit left of the story. I have no interest in keeping or using that credit if the flight is canceled. But according to United, it also cannot simply be transferred back to the purchaser. They're also asking me to reimburse them for the Airbnb accommodations that were originally booked for me and the two other travelers I was supposed to be staying with.
To my knowledge, and I've asked, neither of those guests have been asked to reimburse anything after changing their plans, which has left me confused as to why I'm being asked to cover those accommodation costs. I've been doing this for almost 10 years and I have never gotten to a point where I've had to withdraw myself from any photo shoot, let alone a wedding, let alone a month out.
And I have never been spoken to or treated the way I was by the groom. Am I the a-hole for backing out and refusing to reimburse them? And that's the end of the story.
Our friend claimed she knew my boyfriend better, so I cut her out.
Prove it!
At the end of the month, to my boyfriend's 30-male birthday, I, female 27, planned a dinner with some friends to celebrate. I am a very artistic person and have decided to sculpt him a realistic heart as his birthday present. For some context, my boyfriend spent most of his 20s in the hospital. He was extremely sick and had to have open heart surgery.
Okay, so it's a little on the nose.
Okay.
Kind of like an inside joke.
It's like proof that Tony Stank has a heart.
Yeah. Thankfully, he's doing much better now, but I understand that was a major part of his life, and that's why I want to incorporate it into his present. A few days ago, I told this to a mutual friend, Claudia. I could tell she wasn't a fan of the idea straight away. After some coaxing, Claudia said that it's insensitive to bring up his heart issues on his birthday. I think it's actually a good thing to do because I'm showing him that no matter what he may face, I love him. The sculpture also has a deeper meaning of me not just giving him a literal sculpture of a heart, but a metaphor for me giving him my heart.
Aww, double meaning all the way.
Proof that OP has heart.
I mean, honestly, I feel like you could just say, okay, like, you know, I'll bear the brunt of the, I'll deal with him if he's upset by it.
It just feels like a step removed from being like, hey, my friend who's an amputee, I got you a leg.
I think it's a little weird, but I also think.
Well, I guess you could get a leg.
I think OP can just tell the friend, yeah, I'll deal with it if he doesn't like it.
That is fair. By the way, this comes from a deleted user. If you want to submit your own stories, go to the r slash okay story time subreddit. I'm Dakota.

And if you have a heart, you'll stay and listen to us read this story. If you don't, you should go to the hospital.
Or are you soulless? Huh? Or do they not have a soul?
Hmm.
I don't know.
You should go to the church then, I guess.
Are they a heartless?
Look, all I know is you should comment what you would do.
Okay? Okay.
Heart op says claudia thinks that because i didn't know my boyfriend while he was going through this and she did that she has a better understanding of what my boyfriend will think of the present obviously i disagree we were going around in circles both of us were getting frustrated and she wasn't budging on her stance so eventually i said it's probably not a good idea for her to attend the dinner i don't want her negative opinion on my gift to ruin the mood of the dinner or upset my boyfriend Claudia was in shock and had some choice words, but left after that. My boyfriend brought it up today that Claudia said she isn't allowed to go to his birthday dinner and that when he asked why, she told him to ask me. Obviously, I didn't tell
him because that would spoil the surprise of what his present is, so I tried to downplay it. I know this will all come out eventually and that I will have to face Claudia again at some point, probably in front of our friends. So before that confrontation happens, I want to know, am I wrong?
Like, yeah.
Yeah. Yeah.
You were both wrong, but you were more wrong.
Yeah, if it was your birthday, sure.
Yeah, I think you were both in the wrong for having that very silly fight, but I think you don't really have the power to uninvite her from her friend's party.
Were you in charge of the guest list?
I don't know. And even if you were in charge of the guest list, it's not your party. It's your boyfriend's party. Yeah.
I don't know. There is an update. Okay. I have apologized to Claudia over the phone and re-invited her to the dinner. I think I let my own insecurities overshadow the disagreement, and that's why I opted to uninvite her. A bad decision on my behalf. She accepted the invite and apology. Claudia asked again about the present, and I told her it's not something for her to worry about, which I think is a fair statement to make.
Perfect. Yes.
As many of you suggested, I also went into more detail and told my boyfriend that Claudia and I argued over his birthday present. I didn't tell him what it was exactly, but told him Claudia didn't think it was a good present. I disagreed, and about the argument that followed. He was very understanding, but wants to know more. Obviously, I can't tell him too much, because that would ruin the surprise of what the present is. Also, a few of you thought I was going to give him the heart sculpture during the dinner, which I was never going to do. I'm planning on giving it to him beforehand, but I know it will be brought up during the dinner and I feared that it being a topic of conversation would give Claudia the opportunity to voice her opinion
on it. Afterwards, I asked my boyfriend what he thought of a present that revolved around his health. He's very good humored and asked if I was searching the black market for a new heart for him. He is apprehensive about it, but I think that's because he's scared I'm going to sign him up for some fitness regimen or book him a scan for his birthday. I'm going ahead with my sculpture as I think it will be a nice surprise as well as my original reason. And there's another update. Oh boy, did he like it?
I need to know. I need to know if it was a fake like. I need to know if he was like, oh.
Nah, he liked it.
He liked it.
We gotta know.
If he's making a joke about black market hearts, he liked it.
Here we go. This is a heartless right here.
Let's freaking find out.
That's not it. Never mind. Whoops.
Oh wait, yeah. I want to see the stuff Alvin sent in about Uma Thurman.
Excuse me? Um.
Yeah, Uma Thurman. Update two. A few people wanted me to update after my boyfriend's birthday, so here. As many of you left some nasty, although well-deserved in some cases, admittedly, comments, I was pretty upset in the days leading up to his birthday. My boyfriend saw how upset I was, and so I explained the entire situation to him. I told him about the sculpture, the full extent of my argument with Claudia, and I even showed him my post on here.
He was quiet while I was showing him your comments, but he was never angry at me or anything like that. He was neutral until he knew everything. Afterwards, I gave him the sculpture. He took a lot of time looking at it, and I explained the meaning behind it so he would understand that my intentions were pure. He did joke that I could have shown him that I love him by buying him a PlayStation 5 instead of sculpting a realistic heart. But he was actually very appreciative of the amount of work and effort I put into it.
That's pretty funny.
It is, but also... I.
Don't think he liked it.
I don't think he liked it.
He didn't like it.
Oh, it's tough when the body is right.
But it's lame. That's lame. That's lame to be like, you could have got me a PS5. It's like, ah.
Yeah.
Come on. She sculpted a heart. She sculpted a heart with her bare hands.
Yeah.
Okay. He probably wanted a heartless, like, you know, from Kingdom Hearts.
Oh.
Especially if he's a PlayStation guy.
Oh, yeah.
Rate that guy, Sophia.
Out of what?
Out of 10.
For what?
Just rate him out of 10. For what? Just in general.
What am I rating him on a scale of?
Just on a scale of 1 to 10.
I don't know, but like why?
10 being the best, 1 being the worst.
I don't know. Like attractiveness?
Just scale. 1 to 10.
1 to 10. 3.
All right.
Thank you. I appreciate that. Neither do I.
He wasn't exactly thrilled with it. But he was very complimentary, so I'll take that as a win. I should mention that this all happened the day before his birthday. So no, I did not bring the sculpture to his birthday dinner and unveil it there like many of you presumed. Just a note, I never said I was going to do that. Also, I got him AirPods, too. So the sculpture wasn't the only gift he got from me.
Thank God. Oh, boy. Yeah, I'm sorry, OP. Of course he was complimentary. Well, Pete cried about it. If he said anything else, he's a bad guy. Not cool. She's upset. She's scared. She wants you to like him. Of course he's going to say something nice. I'm glad you got AirPods, though.
Yeah, it was a good backup. Good backup. Good backup. I remember when they had cords. Yeah. The dinner went off without a hitch. On our way over to the restaurant, my boyfriend asked if I was going to apologize to Claudia in person, which I did immediately upon arriving. She was fine with it and made no issue and said she was actually glad that I felt as though I could tell her about the sculpture in the first place.
A lot of you accused me of having a problem with Claudia, and after some reflecting, I do think I'm insecure about certain aspects of her friendship with my boyfriend. This is something I'll work on going forward. We've got a little bit more here. I don't hear any wedding bells, you know? Yeah.
Like, you don't think this is going to continue? You don't think this is going to last? At some point.
You get the giant ceramic heart, and he goes, oh, he got me a PlayStation. I don't think he's, I don't think y'all are on the same vibration.
Yeah. Yeah.
The sculpture was not mentioned at the dinner, nor did I bring it up. In the end, Claudia and my boyfriend walked out together to presumably talk about it, and then I walked out with some others because I'm not actually a controlling or horrible girlfriend, and I have no problem giving them their space. Before we left, they hugged and he thanked her. Before you start, he thanked everyone for attending. So this wasn't out of the ordinary.
So he's just a human being, okay?
Thank you.
Thank you. Thank you.
We both went to the cinema together and it was a happy ending.
Okay.
And just to add, I will be taking on a lot of your feedback in my previous two posts. And I'll be trying to better myself and be more considerate in the future.
All right, all right.
And that The end of that story.
Hey, it's Angie, your favorite fake redhead host here.
And we're going to get back to the stories. But here's a three minute ad break from our sponsors. I bought slippers for my guests to wear, but my friend took them home.
Those are for guests.
So I recently decided to purchase several pairs of slippers to let guests borrow when they visit my home so they don't have to walk around with bare feet or socks. Growing up with a Chinese mother, it was super common for friends and family to offer us slippers any time we visited their homes. As in the culture, it's common courtesy to never wear your shoes indoors. I enforce the no shoes rule very strongly in my home as I hate the idea of having outside dirt and germs spread all over my floors and carpet. I understand you.
She really does.
So I bought a bunch of slippers to elevate the experience of guests in my home and make them feel more welcome and comfortable. I guess I have to start doing that. I also did this because my partner's mom visited our home recently and she absolutely refused to not wear shoes with the rationale that it causes arthritis or something.
All right.
Hmm. Okay, whatever makes her comfortable. But I was quite annoyed every time I saw her wearing her outdoor shoes in my kitchen. Hence, guest slippers were purchased. By the way, this comes from Purdy Pie. And if you want to submit your own stories, go to the r slash showcase story time subreddit. I'm Sophia.

And we're here to give good advice, but we don't have all the answers. So put your answers below. And Opie says... Anywho, more recently, we had a friend stop by for a few hours. Upon his arrival, my partner brought out a pair of slippers and offered them to our guest, saying something along the lines of, here, these are for you to wear. As he was removing his shoes, our guest said, oh, for me? And my partner replied something like, yeah, these are for wearing around our home.
Our guest thanked him and said he would leave them by the door. Okay, so he knew that he was supposed to leave them. Because I thought maybe he just didn't know, but he knew.
I'll leave them by the door can only mean one thing.
Which should have been our first hint. Anyway, our guest stayed for a while and then eventually had to leave. Upon leaving, he saw the slippers by the door and said to me, Oh, yeah, your partner said I could have these, right? To which I replied, well, they're actually meant for guests to wear inside. And our guest said, yeah, yeah, I really appreciate this. It's a sweet gift. So I tried to re-explain it to him, saying, no, no, these are meant to stay here. While pointing at the ground in my home, we bought these slippers for guests to wear inside here. My guest replied, well, yeah, I'm not going to wear them out running or anything like that.
So thank you. It's a really thoughtful gift. They're quite comfy.
Where are my keys? If I had my keys, I'd go jingle, jangle, jingle, jangle, listen, jingle, jangle, listen. The shoes stay in my house. The slippers are yours. They live here. Jingle, jangle. Pay attention. The shoes stay here.
Slippers.
Yeah, it really feels like this person's quite stupid. But we've got a little bit left to this story. I truly don't understand. Are they trying to be funny?
Like, if you somehow allowed that guy to walk out of the house with the slippers, that's your fault.
That's your fault.
Fully your fault.
And so for the last time, I tried to explain, saying something like, no, these are for our guests who wear inside. They are meant to stay here. But once again, my guests seemed exasperated about how concerned I was about him wearing them outdoors and said, yeah, yeah, don't worry.
I know how to.
Decide which shoes to wear or something along those lines. And he once again thanked me for the thoughtful gift and he reached out for a hug to say goodbye. At this point, I just gave up and said, You're welcome. And let him have the slippers. They were like $ 20 anyway. Lesson learned. Not everyone grew up in slipper culture, and it's harder to explain than I originally thought it would be. No, like genuinely, this person has never heard words before.
It's not too hard to explain. You go, hey.
You leave those here. Those are mine.
You're not taking the shoes home. I know you know how to wear shoes. And that's when I would get annoying back when he went, I know how to put on the right pair of shoes.
I go, great.
I was worried you were a complete idiot because you're not hearing me. The slippers stay here in my house because they're for me.
Yes.
They're for the house.
They're for you when you're here.
Well, I think that we take all of that out. I think we start saying, these are not a gift. You were borrowing them. These are my slippers.
Yeah, I think it was time for you to go, no, those aren't yours.
Yeah, you go, no, those aren't yours.
You're my husband misspoke. Those aren't yours. Do not take those.
Those are my slippers.
Don't take those. They're not yours.
I let you borrow them. Now you leave and you leave the slippers here. And that's how you say.
It.
But anyway, that's the end of that story, folks.
